Positive experience: Serviceable pure gym, well maintained, friendly staff, always clean. Well behaved other gym goers. Not the biggest, not much open space for stretches or workouts with no or limited equipment and very warm inside, air con not set very low at all.

Fantastic experience: Love the classes offered here. LBT in particular, with Zuzanna on a Sunday morning and with Lysander on a Friday lunchtime, is a fab class!! The classes alone make the membership fee feel like great value

Negative experience: Completely agree with other comments made about the overlapping loud music. The general gym music is fine and at an okay level. But they play very loud music on top of the existing music for classes. This gym is relatively small and the classes are held in the main area, so the very loud music is unavoidable. It is so overwhelming that I had to leave to avoid a panic attack. The space is not inclusive of autistic people, or those with sensory needs.

Fantastic experience: I am living far only able to use this gym on Friday or Saturday night otherwise prefer to use it always,Greta gym with many services.

Fantastic experience: This is by far the best gym around in Reading! Everyone is super friendly, there's loads of equiptment and areas to workout so you're never waiting and the PT's are all amazing - especially Kayley and Kieron! Both their classes and individial PT sessions are perfect for anyone of any ability!

Positive experience: Visiting from out of area over Christmas. Was easy to download app and pay the subscription. This was live in a short time allowing access a few hours later (when I chose to go). The Manager was present at 16:30 on Weds. so were 30/40 others. The gym is small and well stocked. Not much room but all machines appeared to function. There was a cleaning station but I saw no one else with towels and only one person used the station whilst I was there (cleaning etiquette is not upheld). The fruit water was lovely and crisp cold with a nice taste. This gym is fine if you use it off peak and the 24/7 is a plus. It is unstaffed 22:00-06:00 approx.

Negative experience: The gym is a good size, nice atmosphere. Plenty of parking, really accessible. It's totally let down by the unreasonably cold showers. I don't know who decided to set them at that temperature, but they clearly don't have to use them themselves. Most of the PureGyms we've been to have pretty rubbish showers, but these are definitely some of the coldest. Not a great experience after a workout.

Positive experience: I'm happy with this gym as I visit late at evening/night when there are not many people.

Negative experience: Saturday morning, cleaners have been in. Clearly not interested. The Gents change are a disgrace. Just put a hoover around. Toilets and showers are gross

Negative experience: I’ve decided to stop visiting the PureGym Calcot location due to repeated issues with the gym’s atmosphere, particularly concerning the management of noise levels during classes. Despite multiple conversations with the management about the overlapping and excessively loud music, there has been no improvement. This persistent problem has detracted significantly from what I expect in a community gym setting, making it more reminiscent of a chaotic scene than a place for wellness and fitness. Unfortunately, it feels necessary to avoid this gym, as the environment does not foster the inclusive, community-oriented atmosphere that should be standard. For those looking for a calmer, more respectful workout environment, you might find other locations more suitable.

Negative experience: They steal ur money. Worst gym I have ever dealt with in my life. Tilehurst gym is 1000% better please go there so they don’t steal your money & blame it on the app

Positive experience: Pros 1. wide range of equipment 2. Good floor area 3 . Welcoming staff 4. Cleaned regularly 5. I can bring a guest 4 times a month with my membership Cons - I've spoken to management about all these points 1. 1 flat bench press for the whole gym ... was told they were going to bring out more equipment after covid and still not done 2. Staff rarely enforce people putting the weights away 3. Drinks machine often runs out of mix 4. People rarely put their weights away 5. Bench presses are pushed up very close to the wall so hard to put your weights away 6. Cost more than other pure gyms I've been to with less equipment 7. Every gym class is so loud that I can hear everything above my headphones. Is this really necessary?

Positive experience: 6th November 2023 - cold showers PureGym Reading Calcot is a great gym with a lot to offer, but the shower temperature can be hit and miss. Sometimes it's freezing, sometimes it's warm, but it's never really hot. This can be a real pain after a workout, especially in the winter. I've raised this issue with staff on several occasions, but nothing seems to be done about it. It's a shame, because it's otherwise a great gym. Here are some other things to consider about PureGym Reading Calcot: The gym is open 24/7, which is really convenient. There's a wide range of equipment to choose from, including cardio machines, weights, and free weights. The gym is clean and well-maintained. The staff are friendly and helpful. The gym is good value for money. Overall, I would recommend PureGym Reading Calcot, but just be aware that the shower temperature can be unpredictable. If you're looking for a gym with hot showers, I would suggest looking elsewhere.

Fantastic experience: Recently joined. Loads of kit to choose from, including those weighted things that you have to push or pull, so handy if you're training for Hyrox.

Negative experience: I’ve been using this gym for a year now. The gym itself is clean with plenty of modern equipment. The parking is plentiful and the staff are friendly. Unfortunately it is let down by the showers, they’re cold. I contacted the head office on multiple occasions as have other members but nothing has been done. I’m not sure if they’re struggling financially but the front door is also broken and hasn’t been fixed for five weeks now.

Fantastic experience: Amazing gym, friendly atmosphere. Spacious and fully kitted out.

Positive experience: I enjoy this gym, very good range of equipment and even when busy at peak times I can get my workout done. Cleaner than other gyms I've been to in Reading. The only downside is that it is very warm, I was hot before I even started my work out, meaning I was ridiculously warm when working out. It needs to be kept cooler given people attend the gym to work out and get warm doing so!

Fantastic experience: Good up to date range of workout equipment.Out of peak hours, there isn't a wait for equipment, and cleaning stations are easily accessible.Lockers are available you just need to provide a lock.Changing rooms are clean and tidy with additional lockers provided. Puregym is a nice environment to go and work out in.

Fantastic experience: PureGym Calcott is a decent PureGym. I normally train at PureGym Basingstoke Road but upgraded membership to get multi gym access. First experience is good, here’s why: Quieter than Basingstoke Road (BR) Better equipment They have a hammer strength chest machine (brilliant) Calf machine is better Shoulder press is better Abductor machine for abs Overall it’s a decent size gym with some good quality kit. It’s located on the first floor and the general layout is good (apart from one side of the shoulder machine is too close to the railings so it’s awkward to load plates that side). Clientele/other people training seemed okay. (You do get some absolute wrong uns in some gyms). Yeah not bad recommended.

Negative experience: This gym is far too hot, the heat hits you as soon as you walk in, I have spoken with the staff who agree but for some bizarre reason the temperature is controlled by head office. It never used to be like this. I am now looking for a new gym because doing any kind of CV work in this heat is impossible unless you want to pass out. You can actually feel the heat blowing out of the air conditioning vents. Also the cable machines are always broken, there is usually only one out of three if them working so impossible to get on. It's a shame because apart from these issues the gym would be good.

Positive experience: Slightly too small for the amount of users. Otherwise a good gym

Positive experience: Good gym, have equipment I need. Although I think there air conditioning needs sorting out as you can feel the heat hit you as soon as you walk in. Getting too hot before I’ve even started my workout, very uncomfortable atmosphere.

Fantastic experience: Edit: since I posted this review I have been very impressed, was very annoying having loads of broken machines but since they’ve done great, also when they do break they get fixed very quickly! Very happy and really impressed me! Old review: Well not the best experience so far £29.99 a month and 90% of the cable machines are broken! At peak times the gym is full of the type that do a set then rest on Facebook for ten minutes then do another set! If you want to do cardio great gym if you want to grow muscle well in the 6 weeks I have been 90% of the stuff is snapped!!! So annoyed went today and walked back out, and started looking for gyms local with better facilities, the Staff are very friendly such a shame it’s left to fall apart!

Fantastic experience: Lovely atmosphere with staff that are always happy to help with any queries. You have all the equipment you need for a great workout. There are cleaning stations for when you can wipe down the machines after use.

Negative experience: Unfortunately because of my jobs I can go only late evening like after 22:00 or 23:00. All of the changing rooms are closed after midnight, fair enough, but the outside toilet and shower area are not working since more than 3 months.. I can not believe how this place could be open without toilet and hand washing facilities.. 20% of the equipments are "out of order/use" which is quite disappointing, soon as they "fix" something couple of days later the label is coming back again "out of use" I wish if I could afford to go somewhere else but unfortunately I can not. Any other way is fine.. please just provide a hand washing facilities after midnight too.

Negative experience: Would have been higher but they've done a really poor job when it comes to getting people to clean down equipment. They have now removed some of the cleaning stations meaning there only two spots in the gym with cleaning stuff close by, as the gym doesn't even try to get people to wear masks in between working out, it means lots of maskless people are walking past to clean their equipment. They've also removed lots of the signs asking for only one person to work out in a space.

Fantastic experience: I’ve been to a lot of gyms in my time but I’m really impressed with PureGym Calcot. The layout is great, the equipment is great and I can always find a space to train (probably not after this review ha!). All the PT’s are super friendly and welcoming, making it such a comfortable environment to train in. Kerri has been really supportive and kind, it’s nice to know the PT’s have your back and want you to succeed- super supportive environment!

Positive experience: Seem to have let standards re: Covid slip a bit. Fewer cleaning stations and most of them out of paper. Not much (if any) effort made to encourage/enforce mask wearing.

Negative experience: Not a member and haven't been in the place but have noticed several days this week commencing the 11th April since the place has reopened groups of people going in main entrance not wearing masks and passing people within the corridor on the way to the exit door also not wearing masks. Due to the covid 19 infection's and new regulations from the government that allow gym's to reopen it's obvious the management are not adhering to the rule's which are ment to help keep the general public as safe as possible and I will not be surprised this gym gets a visit from the police in the near future .

Fantastic experience: I have been really impressed with PureGym Calcot. The centre is clean, there is lots of sanitizer stations and I’ve often seen the team cleaning equipment. There is a few people that don’t always use a face covering but due to the good set up your never close to them. It’s a real shame that in lockdown 2.0 gyms will be closed as the gym has helped me during this period and improved my health.

Fantastic experience: Excellent PT session with Kay. He pushes you hard but makes it fun. Fully recommend Kay for any PT needs, he is professional, personal and knows his stuff. Excellent equipment down at the new gym.

Positive experience: For a small site they've done a great job laying it out with the current situation we're in. The equipment is top tier and the atmosphere was decent, not to much testosterone in the free weights section like you normally find. My only gripe was only one member of staff on so couldn't keep an eye out for other members not wiping down equipment after use like they should be. So sadly they'll be the ones who ruin it for everyone else in the end. a few bits of equipment just need moving about to help with social distancing, an limiting people to working out in groups of 2 max would be a welcome addition. Other than that great gym.
