Negative experience: Very unhelpful staff member at the village gym reception (Watford) today - 20/11/24 9:30 am - I left my yoga mat last night so called this morning to ask if in lost property .I was told there is a mat .I wanted to give a description, name printed on the mat and my name so that they can keep a note until collected but the lady was not at all interested , very abrupt and said she is not allowed to tell me if it is the one they have even with the description! I pay a good amount each month to attend the gym and would expect a decent customer service when such things happen once in a while ! Not someone with an attitude!

Negative experience: Been lied to about cancel anytime membership. They want 3 months notice which isn't actually cancelled anytime and. I refused to pay as they sold me a cancel anytime contract and they referred me to a debt collection agency. I cancelled because I no longer had a job which should be extenuating circumstances. Still, they didn't care!

Fantastic experience: A great friendly gym. I predominantly do the exercise classes, the trainers are excellent and the other members are extremely friendly. I have seen great results in my body since training here regularly and coming feels like my safe place as it’s such a warm friendly community with great friendly staff! Highly recommend

Positive experience: Been a member for many years. The staff all seem friendly and I like the club feel, the familiar reception faces etc. There is a good range of PT staff each with their own style which is good. The changing rooms have undergone various changes but I'm still not a fan, but they will do... The gym is fairly comprehensive and the equipment is mostly in good order. The pool is nice steam room, sauna all good. The jacuzzi is more spa than jacuzzi and would be good if they could upgrade. If i could give one area to improve, it would be some better / high end barrys esq classes. Overall I'm pretty happy and would recommend, although not too much as I don't want it becoming to busy!
Negative experience: This gym is an absolute disgrace. Let me start with the male changing rooms—they are filthy beyond belief. There's mould growing all over the showers and even the ceiling above. It’s shocking how little attention they pay to basic hygiene. The place is absolutely revolting. Then, there's the constant noise. Every evening, a group of young lads takes over, making so much noise that any hope of relaxation is thrown out the window. If you’re looking for a quiet, relaxing gym environment, forget it. The staff at reception are a joke. They’re too busy chatting amongst themselves to be of any help. The few times I asked questions, I was met with irritation, as if I was bothering them by expecting them to do their job. The sauna, Jacuzzi, and steam room are always overcrowded, sticky, and dirty. The whole area is disgusting—towels are all over the floor, and nothing ever feels clean. Worst of all, due to the unsanitary conditions, I contracted Athlete’s foot from their filthy, disgusting floors which I am now forced to stay away from this place whilst paying every month until it gets better and on top of that, apparently I am not the only one who has been affected with this foot issue! Don’t say you were not warned! Save yourself the frustration, the infection, and the horrible experience. This place is an absolute joke, and I will never step foot in this gym again once my contract is over. Stay away! Village Team, If you’re thinking of responding to this review, don’t bother. I’ve seen how the staff handles complaints, and your responses are beyond useless. Don’t embarrass yourselves further by pretending to care when clearly nothing ever changes.

Negative experience: The gym facilities are good to be fair and the pool is nice. However once my membership is up I won't be coming back. It's the clientele that ruin it. This is out of Village's control but it is what it is. The clientele are obnoxious and have disgusting habits. Being in the male changing room just makes my skin crawl at how unsanitary these people are. And if you're a girl be prepared to be perved on.

Negative experience: As a village multi village gym member I paid extra money for Watford village gym. The girl said only this village gym you have to pay extra £6. What is the point of paying extra every month then. And this was the most dirty village gym I have ever seen.

Fantastic experience: Tried Dance fit with Candy today- was so much fun and a good beginner workout, or a great class to raise your heart rate before some weight training without burning yourself out! I have a dance training background and I can say that Candy’s skills and knowledge about dance and fitness were evident throughout the class. Hatha Yoga with Shivnee was also impressive- not your usual ‘gym yoga class’- her detailed knowledge of yoga theory and understanding of adjustments for different levels as well as breath work were especially good.

Negative experience: We just had our first visit at Village Gym Watford and despite of being Friday and quite busy it was a good swim sessions. However we were absolutely disgusted by the state of the female changing room. We understand is a gym with a pool and wet floors are normal however the amount of hairs and dust and dirt all over the floors are unacceptable for this high quality gym facility. At one of the female shower cubicle there was a massive ball of black female hair stuck to the wall. In one of the changing cubicles there were a bunch of used ear buds. When we approached the staff they were really lovely but finding mainly excuses that it’s late and it’s been a busy day. One of them even said that there is an 8-day call off period rather than proposing that someone can go and clean this now. We would like to highlight here that we do not seek a reason to cancel our subscription but to give a customer feedback that additional cleaning services are really needed at the changing rooms. When we got home we were very disappointed to see the amount of similar comments and how not much has been done to resolve the issue. It’s hard to find a gym with a pool in Watford that is not community centre or David Lloyd so it will be good if we can use the gym but if we don’t see any difference in the next month we will have to cancel the gym subscription as hygiene perspective is very off putting.

Fantastic experience: I travel the country as part of my job and I use Gyms in all areas of the UK. I am always pleased when I know I can use the Village in Watford, so convenient. I have got to know most of the staff who are very helpful. The Gym has very modern equipment and it keeps getting updated, the pool and spa are always very clean. The reception is always welcoming. Negative experience: I was told to give a good review on this gym and was in return, offered guest passes which I did not recive the staff are good especially the reception staff they are great ! Management, cannot bribe members like this as its not professional and makes the whole village company look bad, I have been a member of this gym for 6 years and have watched it deteriorate, management is poor, and health and saftey is atrocious, I have pictures and videos of this and will be taking legal action, and posting all over social media, I won't disclose what this is as they will try to cover it up, but please ensure you guys up - keep health and saftey regulations which is you're legal obligation, also bribery is not somthing you should do, another thing I should add is the hotel is good I've stayed many times but the gym and its equipment is in a bad state, I pay more than other members and to this day have had no answer on why this is .

Negative experience: The worst place ever As other people said, changing rooms always dirty, especially a family one which we used. As it says it should be for families but a lot of people using gym came there to change and nothing changed even when reported. On the top of that swimming pool always full of hair, plasters, sanitary pads and who knows what else. People constantly bringing their phones and using them although clear signs everywhere saying it's not allowed. On many occasions adults (probably drunk) jumping into water next to kids and my son, no response from the staff at all. Mold in every possible corner of the swimming pool with overcrowded steam rooms if when working at all. The swimming pool usually overcrowded so barely possible to swim at all. I tried to cancel our 3 memberships but no response from them at all, although tried a few times. 3 months cancellation notice is a joke. We had been not using the facilities for a few months and still had to pay. That's in total 15 months you have to pay for! It' definitely not a place for families. I'm disgusted with this place and don't recommend to anyone- stay away!!!!

Negative experience: I have been a member of the Village for about 12 years and the deterioration of the services is very noticeable. The worst thing is the state of the changing rooms which is always dirty and rarely is there anyone cleaning it. The floors are always dangerously wet and hairs all over them The wetness from the showers to the changing rooms is scary for people and the swimming costume dryer is always broken (not to mention the hair dryers too) I have seen cleaner changing rooms at The Venue in Borehamwood (a public swimming pool) It’s very obvious that you do not have enough staff running the place and with the cost of membership I would have thought you would have made it a priority to recruit more. Quite frankly I am seriously thinking about cancelling my membership as coming here is not an enjoyable experience anymore.

Regarding the swimming costume dryer and hair dryers, unfortunately, these things can stop working from time to time, I appreciate they may take longer to replace than hoped for, however we act as swiftly as possible and sometimes it is just waiting for the replacements to be delivered, which is out of our control. Please be assured that we take the safety and wellbeing of our members very seriously and are constantly reviewing our operations to ensure a positive experience for everyone. Fantastic experience: I've been a member of the Village Gym for over 12 years and from the early days I always found it to be extremely well equipped with an amazing swimming pool, jacuzzi, sauna and steam room and upstairs in the gym itself it contains the latest weight machines, bicycles and a wide variety of indivual weights. There is definitely a regime to constantly improve the facilities and although there is disruption to some services for a short while the subsequent improvements far outweigh this. The classes are excellent and extremely sociable and everyone is kind and friendly. The unique feature is the gym is located in a wonderful hotel which offers facilities to eat and drink and clearly the Starbucks is a popular place with everyone pre and post workouts! Most importantly, the gym reception staff are extremely pleasant, attentive and most helpful and whether it be at 6am in the morning or 6pm at night they always act at the highest levels in terms of hard work and professionalism.

Fantastic experience: Had a great experience at the Village Gym in Watford. The facilities were very clean and had a lot to offer. I especially appreciated the expert advice from one of the PT’s called Candi. She was extremely friendly and clearly knew what she was talking about. She gave me some great tips on how to utilise my time in the gym and how to get the most out of each exercise. 10/10 would return!
