Negative experience: I’m really disappointed with my experience at this spa. I had booked a spa day with my friends, totalling £360, and was really looking forward to it, but just three days before our visit, I came down with a highly contagious bacterial virus. My friend immediately contacted them to explain the situation and asked if we could either reschedule or get a refund, as I obviously couldn’t attend while sick. Unfortunately, they refused to accommodate at all, citing their seven-day notice policy for cancellations or rescheduling. Who knows they are going to be ill seven days in advance? While I understand policies are in place for a reason, it’s extremely unreasonable to have no flexibility in cases of illness, especially when the appointment is so close. I was hoping for a little understanding, but instead, they were rigid and unhelpful. I’m not asking for anything special, just a reasonable solution given the circumstances. That’s a large amount of money down the drain and really encourages sick people to still attend despite the risk of spreading infection. This was my first and last time booking with them. Would not recommend to anyone looking for a spa that values customer care.

Positive experience: This is our third time here this year. Experienced the thermal journey included in the stay which was the highlight of the stay. Highly recommended! We wanted to go the following day but was fully booked so unfortunately had to kill time until the guests pool opened at 5.30pm which I think they need to maybe rethink, maybe hold some spaces back for guests on the day if they wanted to pay for the thermal journey OR open the indoor pool earlier for guests. Ate at the Blue Smoke 2 nights and had afternoon tea which is always delicious expect the coleslaw which is too salty; both nights. I have to say the beds are firm, we stayed in the Winander so didn't sleep well for 2 nights but the porters helped by changing our mattress and putting a few toppers on and giving us more pillows. Still didn't sleep fully on the third night but wasn't as bad. We wanted to extend 1 night and the staff gave us a small discount. We will be coming back next year but will make sure to book the thermal journey for both days in advanced as they book up on weekends a few weeks ahead. A wonderful, peaceful place to experience and stay. Thank you

Negative experience: The room and facilities are nice but the Service is appalling. It’s such a big hotel they just seem like they can’t cope. We turned up for breakfast and were berated for not booking (no one told us to) and told we’d have to wait. We couldn’t eat dinner in the restaurant because we had t booked (no one told us to). When we checked out we tried to drop our keg off but were told to join a long queue of people waiting to check in (the room was all paid for the hotel even said in the information pack that the keys could be dropped off) and there were other things like being unable to park and the cleaners coming into the room both mornings we were there before we were ready. A shame and not what I expected for the cost.

Fantastic experience: I visited Low Wood Bay Spa on the 15th of November to celebrate my birthday, and it was absolutely wonderful! From start to finish, the experience exceeded expectations. The outdoor heated pools were a highlight, especially in the crisp, cold weather — such a unique and relaxing experience. The spa provided plenty of soft, luxurious towels, and the staff were all incredibly kind, attentive, and helpful, making us feel so welcome. The free hot chocolate was a delightful touch and so comforting after our thermal journey. The sauna rooms were amazing and left me feeling completely relaxed. It was the perfect way to unwind with my group of five. We opted for the thermal journey and had afternoon tea at Blue Smoke afterward. The staff were accommodating enough to make halal substitutions for us, which we really appreciated. While the food was okay, the dessert could have been better. Overall, it was a fantastic day, and I can’t wait to return. Thank you for making my birthday so special!

Positive experience: The room was great, cleaning staff very friendly. If you don’t have a car though, it’s a bit difficult to travel around. Also, upon checking in, there was no information about the amenities, accommodations, etc. the cleaning staff helped us with most of the information.

Fantastic experience: Stayed in the Winander Club, room 888 which was excellent. The hotel and grounds are beautiful and well maintained. The staff were very helpful and friendly and we had our own reception area which was quick. Our room was on the top floor with only one other room. We had a really comfortable bed, bath in main room, good size bathroom with nice products and complimentary sweets. But by far the best selling point is the room balcony with amazing views of lake Windermere. Nothing better than sitting having a morning tea / coffee looking at the lake and fells in the cool morning air. Ultimately we can't fault this hotel and are going to look to make it our base to celebrate our wedding anniversary every year. only suggestion would be for there to be an outside towel to dry off plastic balcony furniture and perhaps blankets so you can spend more time enjoying the outside room space as there are no heaters.

Fantastic experience: Here’s an updated version of your review: I only stayed for a short weekend, but I know I’ll be back. This hotel truly prioritized guest service and comfort, just as you’d expect from a spa resort. Whether it was the steam room or the infrared sauna, there was always enough space to relax and unwind, even with plenty of other guests around. The rooms were also exceptionally clean. Plus, the location is fantastic, with beautiful attractions nearby like Muncaster Castle. I especially enjoyed the owl show there which was a unique experience that added an extra touch of excitement to my stay. Would definitely recommend it.

Positive experience: Lovely hotel and spa. We recently stayed here as I'd booked the trip for my wife's 40th birthday as a treat. It's quite expensive, but as I said, it was a treat for my wife. The food was fantastic, the hotel was very clean, and the staff were friendly. We had a meal in the bar on the 1st night of pizza and loaded fries, which was reasonably priced and very nice. All feshly made and prepared. The next morning, we decided to use the spa, we paid an extra £25pp for the sunset Thermal Journey, which grabbed access to the outside area with heated Infinity pools, hot tubs and a wood fired sauna. All with views across Lake Windermere. Inside (which is available for no charge to guests), there is an indoor heated pool, steam room, infra red sauna, and hot tub. Towels and robes are provided, but you should take your own flip flops/sliders. There is a choice of 2 restaurants at the hotel. The W, which we only used for our breakfast, which was included, was a very nice-looking venue, and the buffet style breakfast was delicious and, again, all fresh. The other restaurant is Blue Smoke on the Bay, a bit of a fancier establishment, but the food was unbelievable. It's worth the extra cost as a treat. Location wise, it is around 3 miles from Windermere Town Centre, 4.5 miles to Bowness town centre and just under 2 miles to Ambleside. All in all, I scored it 4/5 as it is on the expensive side, but we thoroughly enjoyed our stay. Would stay again for a special occasion.

Negative experience: Do not book this hotel. I stayed here a few years ago and it was great. Guests could access the pool and outdoor jacuzzis etc. no problems. Came again recently and now hotel guests are treated like second class citizens. No access to outdoor areas at all and can only access the indoor pool between 7.30 and 10am. Weirdly the same time they serve breakfast? The hotel itself is very dated and the rooms are nothing like the pictures. I ate in both restaurants and the food was overpriced and average. The main selling point this hotel has is the spa facilities which as your no longer allowed to use as hotel guests I think its pointless staying. The location isn’t even that good it’s nowhere near anything. Save your money and stay in one of the nearby towns.

Fantastic experience: Didn't stay but had a absolutely amazing spa day. Beautiful location and fantastic pools, sounas and jacuzzi. Already playing another relaxing day at the resort.

Negative experience: Very much disappointed. It’s called spa hotel but it’s almost impossible to get in the spa. We managed to book one day in spa a week in advance, it was not bad, especially staying outside in the outdoor pool. The next day we tried to book a spa again - no chances for three days ahead. We tried to go to spa during so called complementary hours, which is most inconvenient time of the day - during the breakfast and dinner time. It turned out that complimentary spa is only inside, which just a swimming pool, one small jacuzzi and one infrared sauna. To go outside you should book in advance again, which is of course unavailable since they are completely occupied. It’s called a spa hotel, but besides you have to pay for the spa separately, it’s not possible to use it. I paid £450 per night for the room, ready to pay extra for the spa, but can’t use it? Room is the only thing which is ok, but I stayed in the most expensive part, I understood the rooms in other buildings are not so good. Strange thing that TV set had only few channels, no Netflix or other streaming services and all the ways to connect it from own device are blocked. I visited both restaurants - was disappointed by the food. Breakfast is not bad, but they could offer fresh orange juice, which they don’t do. I had face and feet massage (booked in advance of course) - it was slapdash work. The location is ok, had some lake view from the window, but there are a lot of hotels nearby with the same or better location. Service was ok, no complaints, but in general I am very much unsatisfied with my stay.

Negative experience: Other than pet friendly, entire stay was a disaster. 2 Days booking, we saw room pics and booked and gave a small room without the facilities they mentioned while booking at a very high price. Even after booked outdoor spa with reception, lack of communication between their staff missed our spa booking with spa section. A happiest travel had a disappointmented ending. Not even deserving 1*

Positive experience: This is a good place: clean rooms, delicious breakfast, good service, gorgeous view, but I was very disappointed with the spa! (how is it even possible that the pool is not working all day? We came to the hotel for this very reason and in the morning after breakfast we planned our day after going to the spa. But when we got there at 10:05 we found out that we would not be able to swim in the pool and we would have to pay for it (shock! ruined vacation. I have visited more than 40 countries and have been to more than 1000 hotels, I have never seen anything like this(( unfortunately. We were very sad

Fantastic experience: We have just returned from a lovely birthday weekend at Low Wood for my Dads 60th. The hotel was exactly what i hoped for. We booked my parents a luxury Winander club room which until we arrived didn't realise this was another building to the rest of the hotel. They also have breakfast separately which at first i was not too happy about. However it turned out to be a lovely special treat for them. The staff in the Winander club were very friendly and made an effort to recognise it was my Dads birthday. The main hotel which we stayed in was also very nice and clean. The breakfast was great and the the bar area was also very nice and food in the bar area was of restaurant standard. We booked a thermal experience at the spa and that was very impressive. Lots of heat rooms and pools to experience and again the girls in the spa were so happy to help and make the experience the best possible. Overall very happy and will definitely be returning.

Fantastic experience: Myself and a friend went on a spa day. We had afternoon tea and cocktails, too. The Spa service was excellent. The staff brought around samples of hot chocolate and pieces of watermelon and kept the spa really clean and tidy without being intrusive. The spa itself looked very modern and upmarket, the feel was relaxed and intimate, not too busy, and the new outdoor facilities were great, even in the Lake District rain with a view that you'd struggle to beat. The blue smoke afternoon tea afterwards was very impressive. The menu was a refreshing change to the usual savoury sandwiches and some great sweet deserts, too. It was all very well presented and most of all tasty. As a treat, we had a flight of prosecco each, ranging from very dry through to the sweetest to match our food journey. We did indulge in a couple of cocktails at the outside bar and can certainly recommend the espresso martini, delicious! Overall, a great day out was had.

Fantastic experience: Wow... one of the best experiences ever. Originally booked for my girlfriends birthday however.... We booked a boat on lake windermere to start the day (through low wood) where I ended up proposing to her... knowing we had a full spa day to look forward to (after 2 nights camping) we were ready for it. The staff were all very friendly and welcoming. We first had treatments each,(full body massage & she had facial and massage) followed by thermal journey. The massage was the best I've ever had in a spa. Snacks and drinks in the snug were free. There was also free nibbles dotted around. The thermal journey after was a great experience. It never felt crowded there. There is plenty to do and enjoy. The drinks are incredible and you can take them (and get them delivered) literally anywhere within the facilities. There are testers of face masks and products to use. The views are lovely over lake windermere. I'd booked flowers for the room and handmade chocolates, the flowers were very good and smelt amazing, the chocolates were also very good and looked great! On notifying staff that we had got engaged that morning, they were incredibly accommodating in upgrading our room to one with a bath (we had requested one but this had been missed, they aren't guaranteed!) We also had dinner at the blue smoke. Lobster and steak. The food was amazing and also some more amazing cocktails. Breakfast I'm the morning was also amazing! The weather wasn't fantastic but it definitely didn't dull our spirits. It was a truly magical day we will never forget. It's also not the cheapest, but we felt the money we spent was consistently justified and will look forward to returning! Thanks again! Tom & Katie

Fantastic experience: We stayed here with my two daughters for my birthday. The staff was welcoming and check in was seamless. Thank you Mohammed.! The hotel rooms were decorated nicely. Good activities nearby and the hotel has a lovely lawn right in the lake for use by guests only. Amazing view. My room was clean, spacious, and had a lovely garden view. The restaurant offered delicious meals, and the service was excellent throughout. Overall, it was the perfect place to unwind and recharge. I highly recommend it for anyone looking for a peaceful getaway!

Fantastic experience: What can I say other than incredible! I booked a 'Lime' room in the Winander club to form part of a suprise trip in which I proposed to my beautiful now Fiancè. Booking was very easy online via the website and I then called to enquire about room dressing. I spoke with Lucy from the weddings team and together we came up with a plan to dress the room as a congratulations to both myself and my now Fiancè post proposal. Lucy did a fantastic job in ensuring the room was the final cherry on top of the proverbial cake! The service and care we received during our stay was second to none perfectly complimenting the stunning Winander club. We especially appreciated the little touches such as the snacks and drinks provided in our room and the 24/7 coffee machines within the breakfast and lounge areas. Breakfast was excellent with plenty of options both continental and cooked. We really enjoyed utilising the indoor pool and hot tub both morning and night, a great way to relax and unwind following or preceeding a busy day. Our room was spotlessly clean and very tastefully appointed. A big thank you from us both for making a special day just that bit more special! We both look forward to returning in the future to Low Wood Bay.

Positive experience: Nice rooms. Atrocious WiFi. Couldn't locate a quick take-away coffee in the morning. Was advised I'd have to get it from the wait person in the breakfast room. They have a coffee counter near the lobby, but it's not manned until 9?? Good news on the cocktail front though. Look for Akira in the bar. Best cocktails I've had in Britain.

Positive experience: We booked the Ultimate Spa Experience with Lunch as a birthday treat. Overall this was a positive experience but there were some negative aspects. 1. The cleanliness of the reception bathroom facilities were unacceptable 2. There was a complete lack of flexibility when offering to upgrade our drinks in the restaurant due to the “till” not having that facility, this was particularly galling given we had already purchased hot drinks on arrival and wanted a cold drink with our food. 3. Although we were told there were treats after our spa experience in the relaxation area, none were available . 4. We could not change the temperature of the showers in the changing area which fluctuated from hot to cold intermittently. 5. My partner had to wait for 30 minutes for a hairdryer to become available as there were only 2 To summarise, this experience fell short of our expectations compared to other Spa days we have enjoyed elsewhere, which left us disappointed.

Fantastic experience: Wow! We booked the 3 hr weekday spa access deal for £65pp whilst we were away for our anniversary. To say it made our few days away was an understatement! The staff were amazing and very attentive. They took us on a tour and brought drinks to you after ordering at the bar. It was also a nice touch that they brought round snacks whilst you were in the pools! The drinks were amazing (we had mocktails and a coffee) and quite reasonable for the quality and quantity. It was the only spa we have gone to where time didn’t drag (and we didn’t even have a treatment booked!). We would return in a heartbeat.

Negative experience: We recently stayed at the Low Wood Resort to celebrate my Moms 70th birthday. All around I was completely underwhelmed. The first day of the trip was a spa day. I emailed the front desk to ask about the use of the pool. I was told I needed to book a spa treatment, which I did. What I wasn’t told was that on top of the massages I also had to book a thermal journey in order to even access a robe, let alone the pool. I explained the misleading email and the woman at the front desk was incredibly rude and made it clear we were not to have access to the pools. The rooms were also a bit outdated and the front desk staff was not at all knowledgeable about the area for recommendations. The highlight of the weekend were the bartenders in the lounge. They were so friendly and fun. Overall, for the price, I would NOT recommend especially given all the other wonderful facilities in the area.

Positive experience: My husband and I stayed here for our first anniversary. The hotel rooms were decorated nicely. We booked a lake view room with a bathtub and the room we were first given had a restricted view of the lake, the window was boxed in but the room was huge. And the floorboards were very creaky so we could hear footsteps of people walking past from early in the morning. We were given a second room, the reception staff were really nice and helpful about this, they let us choose between 2 rooms. This one had a much better view like the one you will see on their website but the room is quite a bit smaller. The only thing that we struggled with is that all the lake view rooms are overlooking the main road and traffic can be heard all day and from early hours of the morning. The hotel website doesn’t mention this and it can be very disruptive for guests who are not used to sleeping near busy traffic. For that I’ve given know location a 4 and not a 5. For the price, I think it might be a little overpriced. Good activities nearby and the hotel has a lovely lawn right in the lake for use by guests only.

Fantastic experience: An excellent hotel and spa to stay at. We were, admittedly, a little apprehensive as we had read some negative reviews on Tripadvisor, however, I can say for certain that we did not experience any of the negative points raise at all. The staff are attentive and extremely friendly, making you feel important and welcomed. The breakfast was fantastic, food was constantly being replenished and kept warm by a team of staff throughout the service. We had dinner in the W and Blue Smoke restaurants, the W offered an English/French/Asian fusion and had some very interesting items on the menu, all of which we tried were excellent and cooked to perfection. My only tiny gripe was that the Sticky Toffee Pudding didn't have much toffee or sauce and tasted more distinctly of chocolate than toffee. I opted for a massage treatment, this was again excellent, I was nervous at first as I had never had a massage before but I was felt very welcome. A tiny issue I would say is that the package I paid for offered a consultation and complete personalisation. My consultation was very short and I was only asked where to focus and what scented lotions to use, I didn't feel the 'full customisability' experience was there. Our room was excellent, clean and offered an amazing view of the lake. My only negative is that the room was very warm and the air conditioning wasn't effective at all. I couldn't keep the balcony door open as the room faced the main road and the cars would keep me up all night. I did ask for a light blanket to be delivered to my room on two occasions, however, this was never received, which led to me getting little sleep. My biggest disappointment was the opening times for the indoor pool. It is only open between 7:30am-10:00am and 17:30:pm-20:00pm. Conveniently, these times are at the same time that breakfast and dinner were on, making it impossible for me to be able to use the pool. We managed to push back our dinner reservation by an hour one night which gave us some time in the pool. This, for me, really felt intentional, to make it so that you mush purchase a 3-hour slot of the Thermal Journey (£160 each), so that you can use a pool outside of the the breakfast and dinner times. Never have I visited a spa where the pool times are so restrictive, really quite disappointing. All in all, this is an excellent hotel and spa. We will be returning.

Positive experience: Went to Low Wood Spa as a day guest. Great spa facilities. Love the espa goodie bag on arrival. Lovely cocktails that can be enjoyed when using outside pools. However treatment times changed without adequate notice which meant treatments shortened. Customer service when dealing with this issue was not fantastic. Staff are lovely when you are spending money here but don’t really care about their guests when things go wrong.

Negative experience: We went to the spa yesterday for the Twilight Thermal journey. The spa was lovely, with fantastic facilities and nice additional touches that set it apart. The views were amazing, and it was great to be able to order drinks while sitting in an outdoor hot jacuzzi! However, there were supposed to be three of us going together, but my mum had a nasty fall. After a visit to A&E, she unfortunately wasn't well enough to join us. I had emailed the spa a couple of days before, and was told that no refund would be given because, in their words, "due to the guest cancelling within 7 days of the booking, the cost of her thermal journey is non-refundable." This would be understandable if we didn't have a valid reason or if we had a treatment booked that they were unable to fill. However, during our time at the spa, there were probably another 30-40 people there, so to hide behind their T&C's and deny us a refund was very unfair. This turned into a very expensive birthday trip to the spa, and we will think twice in the future about visiting due to their inflexibility. This was their last communication with me with regards the possibility of a refund "We do offer our flexi cover which would cover you in instances such as this, with a 24 hour prior to arrival amendment option. I can see you made your booking online and so this would have been offered within the booking process and you will also have ticked to say that you have read the terms and conditions in which our cancellation/amendment policy is stated." Really?! Such a shame that they couldn't just say sorry about your mum and yes that is fine to cancel & refund. How much better the world would be!

Negative experience: Stayed here for 2 nights and the service was horrendous from the start and the room was incredibly dated. All in all you’re just paying for the instagramable infinity pool overlooking Windermere. Not remotely worth the money unfortunately.

Positive experience: Overpriced in comparison to other 5 star hotels in the area. No spa access included and very limited pool access. Seemed like spa break guests were priority over residents. Staff were all good. Additional cost for parking at £12 a day when you pay £700 to stay.

Negative experience: We booked a 1 night stay at the hotel thinking that we would be able to access all of the facilities that sell the resort on their website. The images online promote the hotels outdoor pool and sauna which we assumed would be included in our stay considering the price of the rooms. After checking in at 3pm we got our robes on and headed down to the spa area to be told that we could not access this facility unless we had paid for a package. We were then told that we could however access the indoor pool and facilities but only from 5:30pm onwards (baring in mind that we had a dinner reservation at 6pm which we then had to cancel). Overall we were extremely disappointed with our stay considering the only reason we went was to use the outdoor pool and spa that the hotel promote.

Positive experience: Lovely spa. Brilliant massage. Over priced for what you receive with the massage. All other spa's I have attended include the spa facilities within the price. Restaurant is very nice within. Polite staff. Food is nice but yet again, over priced. £25 for a pulled pork burger. Not a lot of flavour within the burger. £4.50 for a small amount of BBQ sauce but ketchup is free. Very limited lunch menu, no light options.

Negative experience: Low Wood Bay Spa Resort, we stayed a weekend from Friday to Sunday How to ruin a 80th birthday celebration weekend. Would not recommend at all in any instances. Fraudulent overcharging of £972.12 in two card instances of £486.06 after checking out. And secret car parking charges of £12 a day, overpriced additional charges on everything, food, drink, even the Spa is price segregated, this hotel is a suboptimal overpriced and just a fraudulent experience. This experience is just poor. The hotel staff are unhelpful in response and assume guests will just not notice or get fed up with trying to recoup their money. That’s an extra £1000 for a small family. Poor And shameful Thanks

Positive experience: We did a 3hr spa day and a lunch at Blue Smoke. The spa was lovely, a beautiful setting with plenty of facilities inc: 3 pools of diff temps, sauna, steam, infrared sauna and more. Service was great, staff coming round with small tasters like ice cream and frozen watermelon which was a nice touch. The sauna was particularly cool with a great view and good music. Reason I didn’t give it 5 star is because there was no cold water plunge pool, or cold showers that actually worked to cool down after sauna, steam or the hot pool. Also, food took way too long to arrive, but complementary drinks were provided due to poor service. I’d be back, but please consider adding cold water plunge!

Negative experience: Care: Very busy Road between hotel & lake. Winander Club Stay: Quite envious of the reviewer who was greeted in the car park on arrival, as we weren't even greeted at the building. Our welcome consisted of a locked door with a sign telling us to go to the main building. Don't be fooled by the website image of a cosy check in on a couch with a glass of prosecco (Eventually at dinner, the restaurant reluctantly provided the welcome drink, the 'sign' was unable to provide on arrival). We spent the first 20 minutes of our stay dragging our luggage back & forth between the 2 buildings. I offered the Low Woods General Manager the opportunity to respond to my complaint by email. It never got to him, being routed instead to a junior manager with no surname, who not unsurprisingly, handled the complaint extremely unprofessionally & defensively. Apparently my dissatisfaction with the absent 'exclusive welcome' on arrival & having to drag my luggage around, was the cause of the poor check in? The Winander building is reasonably new, so as expected the decor & fabric of the building is of a high standard. The views are superb. However, the supposed exclusive service was non existent during our stay. There are many hotels in the lakes that don't feel a 'sign' is an acceptable welcome for guests & fortunately, the junior who replied to me, is quite happy for me to use them instead!

Fantastic experience: Our entire stay was perfect. The staff very friendly, the breakfast delicious. The room was flawless, with a great view. The full spa is extra, but guests can use the pool etc at specific times. We enjoyed doing the outside part early one morning, which was very reasonably priced as an extra. Plus the bar staff made us cocktails that weren't on the menu. All told, a lovely weekend. Thanks!

Fantastic experience: Amazing hotel and spa situated on the bank of Windermere. We’ve been coming to this hotel for over twenty years now and have seen it change from a good hotel to a fantastic spa hotel. The spa facilities are excellent especially the infinity pool overlooking the lake, the Winanda club rooms are top class in terms of service and luxury and the Blue Smoke restaurant has the most amazing wood grilled steaks. It’s the perfect spot for exploring the south lakes just a few miles from Ambleside. We will be back again later this year. Staff are helpful, friendly and will go out of their way for you.

Fantastic experience: Alright, folks, if you’re hunting for a perfect spot to relax and unwind, you’ve got to check out Low Wood Bay Resort & Spa in Windermere. This place is the real deal. They’ve got a variety of pools, including some heated outdoor ones that are just amazing, even when the weather is a bit grey and overcast. It’s super chill to be soaking in a warm pool while everything around you is cool and misty. The drink service here is top-notch. Imagine kicking back by the pool and having a delicious cocktail delivered right to you. The staff really know how to take care of you. Plus, the dining options are fantastic. The wood-fired dishes at Blue Smoke on the Bay are a standout, adding a tasty twist to the whole experience. So, if you’re looking to mix luxury with the beautiful scenery of Lake Windermere, Low Wood Bay is definitely the spot. It’s perfect for recharging and enjoying some top-tier relaxation

Positive experience: We stayed for about one night with the Thermal Spa Journey offer. The room was fantastic and the thermal spa was very relaxing with amazing views. The stand out for me was the outstanding service from everyone there, also the W restaurant does an excellent breakfast. The only low was the afternoon tea in the Blue Smoke Restaurant. Really disappointed with it. Really limited range of food with overcooked burger (it was like shoe leather) one tiny scone each, defrosted doughnut rings and tasteless cheesecake. I’m local and there are so many better options for the same price. Apart from that I would highly recommend

Positive experience: Don't take kids if you want to use the pool. It is only available to use for them until 10am (0930 last entry). Even for adult residents the pool is only available until 10am in the morning and after 5.30pm in the evening. Therefore if you are looking for a family holiday with kids and use of a leisure area, this is not the hotel for you (hence the 3 stars). This was unclear on the front page of their website (albeit once you dig deeper you can see the times). It was also frustrating that every time we passed the pool during the day it was completely empty! For that reason we won't be back. However, beyond that, the hotel is nice, food is good, service is very good in general and the location is nice (albeit the traffic around there is awful).

Fantastic experience: We’ve visited the Lake District several times and we’ve always enjoyed our stays. However, despite the friendliness of the locals, we’ve often been left wondering if the sheer beauty of the landscape is supposed to make up for the rather lacking customer service wherever we’ve stayed and dined. As I looked up Low Wood Bay, I tried to contact them to discuss some special requests for my partner’s 50th birthday as well as for our rescue dog (who has a few issues, to say the least). Despite countless attempts at all sort of hours, I could never get through, so I started to suspect the resort was either severely understaffed, or staffed with personnel who couldn’t really be bothered to pick up the phone. My expectations prior to arrival were low. I could not possibly have been more wrong. From check-in to check-out, our stay was beyond perfect. Every single member of staff at Low Wood Bay was incredibly helpful, kind, and accommodating. The resort is beautiful (although we couldn’t explore it all as some areas are understandably not dog-friendly), with slick modern additions complementing the original charm of the Victorian building. We had a beautiful room overlooking the lake from the huge original sash window, the bed was comfortable and we slept extremely well (despite the lack of double glazing and the road running between the resort and the lake). Everyone bent over backwards to please us, I can not commend the staff enough for their professional service and helpful attitude. In particular, I would like to express my gratitude to: Fatma at Reception Sharif the porter Julia at the Atrium bar Garry at the Blue Smoke restaurant The beauty of this location, the great venue, and the wonderful staff made our stay thoroughly enjoyable, very special, and absolutely memorable. We will definitely return.

Positive experience: We stayed here recently as part of a group. The hotel is lovely, although a little confusing to find your way from the car park to reception at first! Rooms are well appointed and a good size, the pool, jacuzzi, steam room and Sauna clean and well presented. It’s disappointing that your regular booking doesn’t give you access to the Infinity Pool or the outside Spa facilities. We also had a hiccup where the hotel lost all the started orders for our group. The apology and explanation was a long time coming. Eventually some free wine was offered, but bread or some form of food would have been welcome. Overall a lovely place in a gorgeous setting right by the Lake, but lacks the personality and top service that makes something a 5 star experience.

Fantastic experience: My fav place, beautiful setting and grounds, spa facilities amazing as are the cocktails from outside bar. Food delicious, But what makes this place stand out is the staff all fantastic especially Max in breakfast room. He will go far in hospitality if he chooses.

Positive experience: At Low Wood Bay Resort & Spa, our initial reception experience was disappointing. Upon arrival, we were not greeted warmly, and when we inquired about spa services, the receptionist curtly directed us to the spa reception, emphasizing that the hotel and spa were separate entities. This lack of cohesion between hotel and spa services was immediately evident and set a negative tone for our stay. The spa experience at Low Wood Bay Resort & Spa left much to be desired. Despite the enticing promotional images of outdoor "thermal pools," accessing them came at an extra cost and was only available during the morning session. This felt restrictive, especially considering the additional £15 charge per use on top of the hotel price. Additionally, the limited access to the indoor pool—restricted to just a few hours in the morning and evening—further dampened our spa experience. Our attempts to book spa services were thwarted by fully booked schedules, with exorbitant prices of £65 per person if any availability were to open up. This lack of availability and high cost significantly detracted from the overall enjoyment of our stay. In summary, the spa experience at Low Wood Bay Resort & Spa was marred by restricted access, high additional costs, and difficulty securing bookings, ultimately diminishing the enjoyment of our stay. Overall, the lackluster reception experience combined with the issues surrounding spa access and amenities contributed to our decision not to return to Low Wood Bay Resort & Spa.

Fantastic experience: Beautiful views and exceptionally nice staff. It takes a while to get used to the light switches in the rooms. And since we were traveling with a tour group I found it odd they failed to give me my dessert last evening but the remainder of our tour group did get theirs.

Positive experience: Stayed here for one night and was really impressed by the location, views and the amount of facilities in the spa (indoor and outdoor pool, a few different types of saunas, indoor and outdoor hot tubs etc). We paid extra for a lake view room and the decor was a bit more dated than I was expecting. It’s also worth noting that between the hotel and the lake is the main road, and the windows aren’t double-glazed so you can hear traffic pretty clearly (and we weren’t there in high-season when it’ll be even louder I assume). We had lunch in the restaurant as part of the spa package which was really good, and breakfast was good too. However we ordered two cocktails in the bar and service charge was added without asking (and it was for bar service, not even table service!) which was really cheeky. All in all though, a good stay. Definitely the best view from a sauna I’ve ever had!

Negative experience: Very disappointing. An expensive disappointment. Booked via website then any communication to them was impossible. Spa access very limited unless you paid extra for 3hours limit. Food was appaulling in the hotel restaurant [not Blue Smoke one]. Breakfast was ok. Room wasn't that clean and no Netflix or similar on TV. Nobody interested when complaining at reception. Have stayed there before but really gone downhill.

Fantastic experience: I can’t recommend this place enough. We stayed for 2 nights and it was fabulous. Beautiful & immaculately clean rooms and the spa was great. A wonderful location and stunning views. But best thing about Low Wood Bay was the staff, every single one of them was so polite and friendly and genuinely couldn’t do enough for you. I will definitely be going back!

Negative experience: A poor booking experience! The websites booking system is unsuitable and difficult to navigate to find availability for both the Hotel but more so the Spa. Resulting in the pursuit of booking over the phone and by email. Email response times exceed 2 weeks and by the time had passed between replies, the booking we were discussing had gone. Getting hold of the relevant staff member who can actually book you on via phone is somewhat impossible with numerous phone numbers, a maze of dial options and ever present voicemails. If I had the chance to book, this review may well of been to a much higher rating as the other reviews suggest - it looks a great place.

Negative experience: Appalling stay!! Will be reporting them to advertising standards agency. Completely feels like fraud if you’re looking for a spa hotel. I was so excited to use the outdoor spa advertised on their website, it turns out you book an expensive spa hotel and can’t access the spa! I voiced my disappointment and they offered the spa one morning. To my absolute shock I discovered 3-4 hen groups and birthdays that were not hotel guests! Ca 25 women that weren’t hotel guests in the spa while you’re being told you can’t book it!! We spent 300 for the room and 200 on dinner each night to then be refused entry to the spa facilities!!! Meanwhile the pool was full of spotty teenagers who were just there for the day!! I have never been so disappointed in my life, you pay decent money for a hotel you EXPECT them to reserve spa slots for guests!! And the “spa manager”’is a very young and most importantly arrogant individual who was patronising and insulting my intelligence by suggesting that the spa has limited capacity due to health and safety!! Like for real? After letting in 25 women on hen dos that morning. She really doesn’t grasp the concept of how a top quality spa hotel is run! You SHOULD be able to add the spa experience at any time! And it should be reserved for guests who are paying a lot of money at your hotel! All other guests we spoke to had the same experience. The website is misleading. Everybody thought they could access outside spa facilities. The fact that the masses believe something wrong ( that the spa is accessible) means you are MISLEADING GUESTS. I studied consumer protection law and will be reporting you. When you book a room it doesn’t tell you that the spa is booked out but rather it says “all leisure facilities included”. That’s a lie. Yes the website mentions the indoor pool is included and the spa is extra. But they don’t tell you that the spa will probably be booked out to hen dos because they’re greedy for money and don’t want to give their high paying guests a really good spa experience at the “spa hotel”!! The one day we were “allowed” in the spa, the staff brought around brownies. I asked them if they had gluten free brownies she said they did and went off to get one from the kitchen. It took a while… While I was waiting a staff member said our thermal journey time had ended to which I replied that’s fine, I’m just waiting for my brownie and then I’ll leave. But instead of waiting 10 minutes for me to just finish a brownie and leave by my own free will, they said they wouldn’t give me the brownie unless I get out!! So instead of waiting 10 minutes they decided to pick a fight over a bloody brownie. It’s ridiculous even writing a this, I’ve stayed in many hotels and never been treated as badly as this. What an insult to be treated like a child “get out to get your brownie” It’s demeaning

Fantastic experience: What a lovely couple of hours at the Low Wood Spa. We booked the Twilight Spa 4.30pm to 6:30pm for a date night. The photos on-line DO NOT do the Spa justice… it’s beautiful, so much bigger than we expected & so much attention to detail! From the moment we arrived at the car park gate, the chap who directed us was helpful & friendly, the reception staff were smiley, helpful & informative, the Spa staff & outside bar staff were all just lovely with lots of attention to detail. The robes & towels were all a good fit, the locker wrist bands & lockers all worked . Showers, pools (x3), hot tubs x 4 & Sauna/steam rooms were all clean & working. Note: Remember your flip flops (although they are available for sale at the Spa reception) The outside bar serve all their drinks in good quality plastic cups with a great drinks menu. We were offered frozen melon pieces, flavoured water & cold flannels when in the hot tub. My only disappointment (very small issues though) were people claiming the inside loungers & chairs around the inside pool areas & no-one laid or sat on them. There were plenty of hanging places for towels & robes. Outside could have done with a covered area or tiny lockers for phones/books/kindles as when in the pool/hot tub outside there was nowhere to leave them al& it was raining heavily. We will definitely be back, we thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. Thankyou

Fantastic experience: I attended with 3 friends on Mother's Day weekend for a spa morning. Wow! The place was immaculate with fantastic service. The facilities were beautiful. There is so much space to explore and the venue didn't feel overbooked. Service by the pools and the restaurant were great. The hot afternoon tea was the best I've had. We were not disappointed and can't wait to return. Thank you Low Wood team.

Fantastic experience: I did the thermal journey, manly tea, and massage. The thermal journey was amazing. The facilities are second to none, and the location is astounding. The massage therapist was very good and the waiting area had plenty to drink and snack on while waiting. The manly tea was enjoyable with the food being pretty good. I will certainly be going back at some point for another thermal journey. I highly recommend this place.
