Our comment from FitFit UK about CitySport:
CitySport is a premier sports center located in London, United Kingdom, known for its affordable pricing and excellent facilities. Users appreciate the variety of activities available, from basketball to badminton, and commend the spacious, well-maintained gym equipped with essential machinery. Many visitors enjoy the friendly staff who are described as helpful and approachable.
Moreover, the center provides great value, especially for students, making it a popular choice among the academic community. Reviews highlight the cleanliness and convenient location, with easy access to public transport.
However, some users have experienced issues with staff professionalism and communication, citing rude behavior and long wait times during busy hours. The booking system for badminton courts, which is currently reliant on phone calls, has also been noted as inconvenient. Changing facilities have received mixed feedback, with some users mentioning a need for improvements.
In summary, CitySport remains a well-liked venue offering a comprehensive sports experience with potential areas for enhanced customer service and facility management.
CitySport: Opinions
Fantastic experience: Great venue great facilities played badminton there for a few years as part of the city university badminton club on meetup. Saturdays for badminton were so much fun but the club closed a shame
Fantastic experience: Not sure I understand any of the low reviews. I’ve been a member for the last 2 months. The staff is brilliant, making bookings is easy and the courts + gym are great for the price.
Positive experience: Clean, simple, well-provisioned and affordable. What more can you ask for?
Positive experience: It's new and clean! There was a free women's boxing class on Eventbrite and it was brilliant. It was in Studio 2, accessible via several flights of stairs. A massive thumbs up for the gloves which weren't stinky. Zumba next door was pretty loud, but I didn't mind. The reception staff were nice. The gym is about 12 minutes walk from Old St, but the walk and location are pleasant and safe. The changing rooms on my second visit both had signs saying they were for men, but there was another one which had locks with showers / toilets. The main ones are all communal. It is a bit maze like. The basketball and badminton courts look brilliant. I saw some fitness classes too, and they seemed great. It's not super busy.
Negative experience: staff is very rude and not understandable, and unprofessional
Negative experience: No one's answering my phone. The phone never works
Positive experience: Alright equipment BUT SO STUFFY , there’s not enough air , it’s so hot. I don’t know if there’s no air conditioning or you’re too cheap to turn it on but please do something about it
Fantastic experience: Easy 3 points
Positive experience: Well equipped gym.
Fantastic experience: Unbelievable price for students. Works out to less than £10 per month if you buy the year's membership. Good facilities for strength training and team sports like basketball. Please give the playlist curator a raise as well!
Fantastic experience: Great gym, super friendly staff. Tons of equipment and variety. There is even a little table football. Love it!
Fantastic experience: Great gym with good equipement and full of young people. Price is 50% cheaper than any gym in london with similar quality.
Fantastic experience: Amazing sports complex with great equipment and clean and organised courts
Negative experience: Staff are unfriendly and bureaucratic. Not a single smile. We are students not your DEBTORS. Some students are struggling to understand their rules and they get mocked and laughed at. Why are you making jokes at work? Massively understaffed as well. Consistently making me wait for 10 mins every time im here just for a CityActive event which only involves a few seconds of QR code scanning, just because they are serving the customers who take forever to sign up for memberships. One time they forgot to distribute bracelets and in turn blamed students for not wearing them. Super frustrating for a university owned gym.
Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback. We apologise for any delays or frustration you encountered at the front desk. We are aware that the start of term and new booking processes have bought about some delays. Working with the Student Union, we have revised the City Active event ticketing procedures and membership sign-up this week, which we believe will significantly improve the situation. Our staff aim to be friendly, helpful, and efficient. Please know that we never intend to be rude or mock customers. We appreciate you bringing these concerns to our attention. It provides an opportunity for us to re-examine our processes and address any ongoing problems. Please let us know if you have any other issues in the future so we can continue improving.
Positive experience: Excellent studios and location. Wish it had sprung floors for dance
Fantastic experience: Very impressed. All the staff are friendly and helpful. Gym equipement etc all looked after well.
Negative experience: Need to be able to book badminton online, you can only do it on the phone and nobody ever answers when you cal
Positive experience: Really good gym and sports centre. Some equipment could do with updating, but there's a good range and the staff are friendly.
Fantastic experience: Great!
Fantastic experience: Nice Gym near Barbican. Has all you would expect. Play basketball here and the quality of the baskets and floor are great. Changing rooms are fine, not many benches but enough lockers and hooks.
Fantastic experience: Great quality gym with people who are always helpful and nice on reception - and flexible membership. So pleased to have this nearby.
Fantastic experience: Nice gym with all the essential equipment in good working order. Super nice and friendly staff, shout out to James from the staff who retrieved cash I dropped on the gym floor, thank you!
Fantastic experience: Great quality excellent value gym. Don't have to be a City University alumni to join. All welcome.
Fantastic experience: Great gym facilities with enough benches and weights to accommodate a busy gym. A wide a variety of functional areas to be creative. Not the most up to date equipment but who needs super high tec to get a good work out. Does get busy in the evenings as do all gyms. Plenty of variety of sports facilities eg. Badminton and basketballs.
Negative experience: We went there to watch some football games, but they literally started screaming at us and didn’t let us coming in to watch it. They were really ridiculous and aggressive
Fantastic experience: Nice sport centre
Positive experience: Nice badminton courts but only possible to book and pay over the phone which is slow
Fantastic experience: The gym facilities have most of the machines and equipment you would expect. The changing rooms are a little small. If you just go in and out it's fine. It's a student gym, so dont expect luxury. The sports hall is great. Staff are friendly. Prices are great for the quality you get!
Negative experience: Totally disappointing staff… zero understanding and blindly following the rules (when they see fit). Not something nice for a university owned sports center.
Fantastic experience: Nice and new looking clean sport facility. Nice changing rooms and nice water fountains. Sport hall has windows just below the ceiling and when it's sunny, sun beams down on the floor, which is a pain when you are trying to play badminton. Because of the windows, it's sometimes hard to see shuttles, but overall, the staffs are nice and quite efficient. Quite nicely run sport facility.
Fantastic experience: Super happy with the gym, great equipment, friendly staff, nice crowd and convenient. Only suggestion would be to extend the timings, close at 12 instead of 10 pm
Positive experience: Huge gym for basketball but needs more in the weight room.
Fantastic experience: One of the best gyms in London. Friendly staff too. The Sports hall is amazing too.
Fantastic experience: Great sports venue
Fantastic experience: Clean, well organised and spacious. The main sports hall is very well set-up for badminton
Fantastic experience: Toan was the best instructor I had there he's a good Mauy Thai instructor and he really worked me good, facilities are nice to.
Fantastic experience: The best sports hall in London
Fantastic experience: I love City Sport. Great facilities and the staff are just AMAZING
Positive experience: Aren’t allowed to bring bags into the sports hall, lockers require an old pound coin or a trolley token. These have to be bought from reception or an ID has to be left there. This is really inconvenient and time consuming. Otherwise the venue is nice.
Fantastic experience: Very good staff, very friendly service. Have access to great quality equipments and classes. Great offers for students especially.
Fantastic experience: A city university owned sports centre that is incredibly affordable. Lots of equipment too.
Fantastic experience: Very friendly staff lots of activities on at the big sports hall & leisure fitness
Fantastic experience: Amazing facility
Positive experience: Co working place
Positive experience: We rented volleyball court. Stuff gave us to little number of balls for training(5 for 12 people). And we was needed to use our own for game, because it had better quality. They have free and clean dress rooms. Also stuff was ready to help, when I scratched my knee.
Positive experience: Well equipped gym, friendly staff.
Fantastic experience: Best Gym in London, especially regarding the classes!
Negative experience: Honestly so over priced for what it is
Positive experience: Good basketball court but pretty small gym.
Fantastic experience: Lots of sport options here and places to sit if you are spectator. Staff always friendly.
Fantastic experience: Been with this gym for roughly 6 months now and its the best one I've been to ever! Its affordable, the staff are always incredibly nice and helpful, the classes and the equipments are really good too. I've recommended it to everyone. People might start thinking Im a paid sponsor because its actually that good.
Fantastic experience: Haven't used the facility
Positive experience: Pretty good facilities, the gym is clean, offers “pay as you go”. On the negative side - very basic changing rooms, not convinient, no paper tissues, just hand dryers. Cold changing rooms with no heating. Showers are old and inbuilt in the wall, you need to press a button every 5 seconds for water to run, water is lukewarm, never hot. No shelves in the showers - you need to put your shampoo and gel on the floor. I can’t imagine that anyone can enjoy the experience of taking a shower there. To wash your hair would be very challenging too. Water in the taps is running in a weak stream as there isn’t enough pressure.
Fantastic experience: Nice facilities, the gym has everything you could need and the instructors in the class are really great! The staff at the desk are helpful and super friendly. All at a reasonable price for central London. Can't fault it :)
Fantastic experience: Good facilities, highly functional
Negative experience: The gym is good by itself cannot say anything bad, but the organisation is on a horrible level, 3 times in 3 months period It did happen that I was coming to the gym and because of random excuses it was closed, for the notifications you need to look on an instagram page?!
Fantastic experience: Pretty decent multi-function court
Fantastic experience: Helpful staff and great facilities
Fantastic experience: Nice place for sport
Fantastic experience: The sports hall is the biggest in London and the prices are really good if you are a student. I often play table tennis here and they even provide you with bats and a ball which many gyms do not offer.
Fantastic experience: Really nice and clean facilities, the home of the CityWolfPack. Come visit and try out the gym.
Fantastic experience: Group cycle class with Kat on Tuesday evenings is the best. The only reason to book a class even if you are not a member.
Fantastic experience: Very good facilities, love to play there
Positive experience: Busy but not overcrowded. They offer personal trainer. Staff very kind.
Positive experience: Hi. i gave city sport a 4* because the atmosphere is friendly plenty of badminton to play. I also know a few that enjoy playing there.
Fantastic experience: Very well equipped and modern gym with full basketball courts which can be used as badminton courts too. Also with friendly staff.
Negative experience: Impossible to book badminton court. Very bad customer service. No one picks up the calls and there is no online booking system either.
Positive experience: Very nice gym and multi-function court. But when you want to book a court, you have to call them to check availability and pay on the phone or be there to pay. It is a bit unusual to see a system like that now. It is not hard to make a booking system which is way more efficient and manageable.
Fantastic experience: Great Badminton courts
Thanks Azeem. We're glad you enjoy using them!
Positive experience: Great classes and equipment
Positive experience: Close to uni. But doesn't have a swimming pool
Fantastic experience: Great place with loads of machines perfect for everyone!
Fantastic experience: Lots of equipment and classes, and not very crowded. A bit pricey if you don't go to city university though
Negative experience: Can't explain how dissapointed in this gym. Although it looks nice I were turned away 3 times out of 4 I came here. Two times tutor just did not come in and third time I was told I have to always sign in to class! When did my membership and came other time noone mentioned they have such system....just entered.Worse was that woman on reception instead of giving appologies and letting me in due to their club's poor information she just turned me away. Very rude considerung that it was their fault not giving this information when I signed in. Probably in student community boys and girls pass this information to each other and don't come and get turned away filling stupid, but I'm adult and not in this community. How do I supposed to get this info?...by meditating? Being full price payed member I expect to be more respected. I'm not saying about this queue in entrance. Common, this is modern time, ask some clever students to invent faster way! Filling stupid when some "polite" people wait in line and some "clever" just edge in front. Absolute 1 star for my great dissupointment. I wish I give more stars doing great sport in great gym...but because of "face control" was there just 1 time out of 4.Would give extra star for Peter in zumba, but my dissupointment now is till the sky.Still hope to get appologies. P.S. I see in other comments that even if I do booking they still can cancel it without giving notice. I also tried to book class, but it can not be done if you don't have account. If I will create one I will be asked to pay for class. All my e-mails banned so I see now I don't have account created durring opening my membership and there is no way for me to book it. Very buricratic!
Fantastic experience: This gym is close to City University. Offers great deals, and has new equipment.
Positive experience: Nice gym and facilities but a bit small gym
Fantastic experience: Excellent gym, very spacious, amazing facilities and very friendly staff ! Prices are very approachable for London standards!
Fantastic experience: Best value gym in London. Only downside is that it's full of gym 'bros' because it is associated with a university. If you're a bodybuilder or power lifter it has 90% of what you need and the other 10% you can just adapt. Ask for Nick if you want to get strong.
Positive experience: Clean, brand new, good quality, quiet, small gym. Best thing are the staff who I've found to be incredibly helpful and friendly.
Positive experience: Es un gimnasio muy grande y hay buenos profesionales
Fantastic experience: Brilliant badminton courts!
Fantastic experience: Great gym in EC1
Positive experience: Nice because everything is new but still a bit small in my opinion. It can get quite crowded and has limited opening hours.
Fantastic experience: I go here to play basketball, great facilities, easy to get to by tube.
Negative experience: Still need to pay extra as a student to use it, even though it's university gym.
Fantastic experience: Newly refurbished a good gym for the area worth the fee
Fantastic experience: Nice sport facility.
Positive experience: Decent prices, can be quite busy
Negative experience: Untrustworthy and very terrible service. Our bookings for the court have always been cancelled in very last minute without any explanation or advance notice. It happens more than three times. Don't book with it.
Negative experience: Highly don't recommend this gym. They cancel the booking without informing you in advance. Moreover, when asking the reason of such cancellation the staff only said '' due to senior management's problem''
Fantastic experience: brand new, cheap to students, flexible membership. A perfect gym
Fantastic experience: Great gym, less expensive that most chains and you can get a discount if you are a student of any uni.
Fantastic experience: Very nice venue.
Negative experience: Good facilities but very bureaucratic and unfriendly staff + unflexible policies regarding entry cards, refunds etc. They sometimes close without notice for several days without offering any refunds on your monthly pass. If you paid for a class but are 5 minutes late, you won't be able to come in and get any refund, nore use the gym instead. They have absolutely no flexibility and obviously don't care about customer satisfaction.
Fantastic experience: Previously know as Saddlers gym now in a brand new form. New equipment, a lot of space, nice staff and really good atmosphere. And the price is much better then other gyms in the area.
Fantastic experience: Awesome Gym , Low rates, always able to find equipment or machines to use
Fantastic experience: Good spacious gym. Dont like the benches downstairs as they are a high but otherwise no complaints!
Positive experience: Absolutely stunning gym. Very clean and cozy. You can try the gym paying ("Pay as you go") for one day also.
Negative experience: Weird policies on entry, cards, opening hours! They close suddenly for days for...job training or rennovation( 2 days to add 2 pieces of equipment). Procrastinating management is obvious, reception is bureaucratic are actually rarely willing to help! They only acknowledge their membercard, if you are a regular member and you show passport instead of membercard, you are not allowed to entry! During non-studying periods, they limit their opening hours so they open like 8-16! Unbelievable! Save your money and time to complain by choosing something else around! So many options anyway, cheers It's a great place for cardio, many options
Positive experience: Got everything you need.
