Positive experience: Like most modern corprate gym lacking in basic peace's of kit old gyms had ! You comuncate this get loads enthusiasm + then no change! So you improvise with whats there , and exsept never have gyms as good as the old gyms

Positive experience: We came here to play padel. The court is indoor which would be good for winter. We had to pay extra for the use of racquets. At other padel courts we did not have to do this. The rest of the facilities are great.

Fantastic experience: I joined a small group of elderly people for an hour of light exercise and socialising. The session was supervised by a Life Leisure professional who advised upon routines and equipment usage and benefits to be achieved.

Positive experience: 3 courts available. Not a wooden court. Enjoyed playing here. Played only once so far for an hour. It was quiet. We were the only ones playing. There is limited room at the ends of the court to move so movement can be restricted but didn’t have too much of an issue due to it. The ceiling height is lower than what we normally are used to. Charges: £15 per hour. We will be using again as our 3rd option.

Negative experience: They double booked our 3 yr olds birthday party with another one and rang with no alternative or solution 2 weeks beforehand!

Positive experience: Bad value for money considering that other gyms are giving you more for money. Closing at 5pm on Saturday and Sunday and 22pm on weekdays. Seems like they are trying to encourage people of Stockport to exercise and maybe tackle health inequalities but maybe should possibly reduce the price considering that Houldsworth Village gym doesn’t provide much for the money while other Life Leisures at least have pool. The equipment is outdated and not much options. It seems like there is no cleaner or staff is not maintaining gym at the standard because it is dirty, especially the mats and upstairs area. The bigger part of the gym is not got heating and it is very cold especially in the winter months. Locker rooms are falling apart, I even mentioned to staff members that doors are broken and it might fall on someone and it is safety concerns but nothing has been done. The lockers also seem like they never been cleaned.

Positive experience: Very good but the lacking star is because of the close time on weekends

Fantastic experience: Rejoined after three years 'running outside' Staff are helpful & friendly & my first Body conditioning class today was great ( although not for those who have not done much cardio or core work ) The gym is clean & spacious with various programmes on TV whilst you're working! I like the new three month contract ( previously one year) Keep up the good work!

Fantastic experience: Only been to gym, but it’s actually great with following equipment - 4 squat / deadlift platforms - DBs up to 60kg - 1 half decent combo rack for bench (a little low) + another standard bench - big open area with sled track + resistance bands, balls etc - quite a big array of machines over 2 areas - ridiculous amount of cardio machines + some not so common cardio machines Cons - Olympic bars are all pretty trash, there is a lot of them at least. Would be unreal if there were 1 or 2 good power bars. - random assortment of weight plates, but doesn’t actually change how heavy they are! There are number of Paralympic bench presses and a number of people who train there on them, pretty cool! Tags: powerlifting, strength training, bench press, squat rack, power bar, weightlifting.

Fantastic experience: Very good gym massive and every persons dream - gym to yourself its apparently always like that I would love it if I lived here came all the way from Huddersfield my gym lacks very badly this is everything you need gym and everyone is so friendly you dont get that in most gyms went yesterday with brother and on way out offering free cream cakes lol car park is huge aswel plus I didn't have to pay 1st day because it was anniversary special day but the prices are very good and affordable

Fantastic experience: I've been a Life Leisure member since 2016, and it's the best membership for a gym I've ever had (previously had PureGym, a private gym & Snap Fitness). It's not the cheapest I've had, but I love that it pumps money back into community efforts and activities for children & youths, so I'm more than happy to support that via a semi-expensive membership. My main gym is Houldsworth, but I've used 4 other locations to suit my work-life balance that is included in my membership. That flexibility to use other locations means I can easily include going to gym even on long days for work. Houldsworth itself is a fab gym, it's quite large and it's rare I can't use what I'd like to. So many free weight & machine options, and plenty of mat space for cool down stretching. Staff are amazing and really helpful, they will always help you to learn new things if you ask them. Great to see improvements happening here along with other locations. The classes are pretty good too, I go to RIG Form, it's helpful to have classes to mix up your own sessions. Always happy to recommend Life Leisure. Keep up the good work everyone!

Positive experience: The fitness machines are very basic but the free weights lifting area is great. I have been in the gym 2 months and never seen a broken machine getting fixed.

Negative experience: Bad bad bad. Equipment frequently broken and out of order for ages. Dirty and not looked after. Classes aren't that great and gets cancelled quite a bit. Stupid booking system and poor opening hours. Much better offerings nearby. Not worth the price.

Fantastic experience: This place has completely transformed my opinion/dislike of gyms. The staff are absolutely fab, all really great down to earth people who motivate you to do better, care about you more than just £££ and help above and beyond their remit. I've been made to feel so comfortable in the gym and weights area, with coaches encouraging us to take up space and that all levels have the same right to be there. Special shout out to Harry, Hannah, Joe and Kingsley for being great on the Weights 4 Women classes. But also the reception, cleaning and admin staff are amazing too. Please restock your vending machines though

Fantastic experience: Attended the centre yesterday to have a look around and a taster session. Both of the ladies on reception were wonderful and welcoming! The gym has some great equipment including Hammer Strength/Nautilus as well as great range of cardio. Also, you can get swimming and activity packages too for a great price!!!

Fantastic experience: Life Leisure houldsworth is a gym that is not only a place for fitness, but also brings people together and changes life's. I attended a 5 hour Combatothon to raise money for Mental health charity mind. It was a special day to be apart of with friends and life Leisure staff who invest in people.

Fantastic experience: A well run and well equipped gym, excellent free weights section and usually not too busy

Positive experience: Decent facilities. Friendly atmosphere. And if you go early morning its usually not that full. I went at 7am and got a good workout in. You have to book an hour slot prior to going so they know the numbers. They also now have a system where you book in for an hour slot to use the main gym facilities as well as for the classes (there's a fair amount of options).

My confidence has soared since joining this gym and I have made friendships that'll last a long time. Also, as someone who has high functioning autism, I'm very aware of the fact that Holdsworth village caters to all types of disabilities, as well as able bodied people. Thumbs up from me.

Negative experience: turned up at this gym this morning as usual looking forward to a positive start to the day, 6.30am. on arrival at the bicycle parking area it was flooded again, this happens regulary so locking ones bike up usually means getting wet feet. the car park and walking area had not been gritted and the bike sheds are full of debri, as usual. bit scruffy actually. the area was slippy so i carefully made my way to the entrance, a member of staff was waiting at the door when it was opened for him i stepped inside to get off the slippy area outside and wait in reception where it was warm and safe. i was told to leave as it wasn`t quite 6.30, i mentioned that it was a bitterly cold morning but she repeated her unwelcoming response. i declined the invitation to wait outside and left. great PR life liesure, no wonder membership is declining rapidly. well rules are rules so lets fire back. in the main gym area a wall mounted fan has been on all through the covid crisis, it was mentioned on 3 occasions but clearly ignored. this fan has effectively blown cold and covid viruses all around the gym on a daily basis. there was no fresh air being drawn into the gym area just dirty air being blown around so what was the point of social distancing? the cable cross over machine has been out of use for 4 months because of a snapped cable, yes 4 months. in general the staff are good and some are outstanding, what a pity all that goodwill can be destroyed by one over officious member of staff. the leisure industry is very competitive at the moment and pure gym appears to be attracting a lot of members with attractive deals and a positive vibe. maybe it`s time to try them out. just an update, 2023, the leg extension has been out of use for a total of 3 months. apparently it needed a welding repair. however, the walls have been re - painted so on leg day i can look at them. having been a member for 5 years (it`s local, easy to get to as i travel by bicycle and is just convenient) during this 5 years i have seen so much that could have been done better but of late it seems to have lost its way even more so. btw, the heating in the main gym has been turned off for the last 3 winters so it is literally freezing cold. apparently a £30,000 spend has been made for additional new dumbbells (there are over 150 already available to members) a new leg extension machine is less than £3,000. new ropes which were already available, weighted bags which were already available and a weighted slide which doesn`t appear very popular, all this money spent but no heating in the winter, only 1 leg extension machine which is clearly past its best and a reduction of 25% floor space in the main gym area and a multi function machine removed. this area is designated for members fee paying classes during class time so the facilities that were previously available to regular gym goers is now not available. well there it is. however, the walls are a rather nice shade of grey. all of these points have been passed on to the ceo of life leisure. customer feedback sometimes needs to be objective, i don`t attend the gym just to look in the mirror. on a plus side there is quite a range of machines but they do require better maintenance. lots of potential for improvements. UPDATE ON THIS REVIEW---------------- it has now been a considerable time since covid restrictions have been eased, however there are still paper towel rolls being placed at random around the gym some on the floor. the actual dispensers which are designed to dispense paper towels to clean hands and equipment are either removed or empty. the paper towel rolls which are left out at random are handled by every user and present a risk of contamination transfer. appears to be a rediculous option. it looks primitive and is unclean. the paper towel dispenser on the mezzanine has been empty for nearly a year, it just sits there on the wall empty, does none of the staff notice this? another point of interest, why are some members of the staff parking their cars in the motorcyle bay?

Positive experience: Life Leisure is a well equipped gym which has recently been updated with lots of new equipment & its staff are friendly & helpful.

Positive experience: I am a powerlifter and I like this gym, the staff are nice and the equipment is good, enough weights for everyone. Only thing is the grip on the bars are worn. So i always need to hunt a 'not to bad' bar to do my heavy deadlift session. I had been training couple of other training facality but this one has a great support for your serious work out. There are weight lifting and power lifting clubs who training here so you can find the knowledge easily.
