Positive experience: Solid gym

Fantastic experience: Staff are always super friendly and helpful. The atmosphere is always very relaxed and welcoming, which is refreshing when you aren't a natural 'gym guru' and to be honest- I'm just rather out of shape! Also having never been brave enough to join any class at previous gyms, I can say I'm throughly enjoying getting involved with those too (and I'm actually getting quite addicted to them). Highly recommend Herongate to anyone of any age or ability!

Fantastic experience: Very good facilities, well trained staff and all around very welcoming place even for people like me, that had found gyms intimidating. Had a seizure during one visit and received excellent medical care.

Fantastic experience: Lovely and clean, superb sauna, jacuzzi, steam room and pool. Excellent changing rooms with decent shower cubicles, shampoo etc., supplied in case you forget your own. A very well fitted out gym with plenty of equipment. The cafè does lovely coffee and cake too!

Fantastic experience: Herongate continues to be one of the bright spots of the area. Nice staff, pleasant gym, good little sauna and steam room. Excellent showers. Comparable to the high end gym I used to attend in a more metropolitan area but more personal.

Negative experience: Friendly club. Insufficient classes though and those available fill up very quickly. Now paying my membership and unable to do Pilates and other classes I initially joined the gym to enjoy! Changing rooms and showers are often very dirty. Wet and slippery floor after Aqua classes and no attention given to these issues. The club has gone downhill since I joined in 2022.

Fantastic experience: Been there for the first time this mornig for breakfast. The breakfast was lovely, great coffee and very pleasant clean surroundings. Will definitely be back again.

Positive experience: The good: Most of the personal is great. Excellent equipment. The Not so Good: The gym for weightlifting is relatively small for all of the users. Some of them simply do not care to clean or return equipment to their places. Sometimes, they do not allow others to exercise while they take the majority of the equipment. Personal should have control of some users that behave like owning the gym. The advice: The nearly empty spare room should contain extra equipment or the treadmills should be moved, etc. Also if possible, buy some extra benches. 3 is not enough.

Fantastic experience: We joined this club when we moved to the area 2 years ago . The gym is well equipped clean and has a good range of cardio and resistance equipment , the staff are lovely, friendly and very approachable We haven’t used the pool much but for no reason other than we usually have plans after our work out I have used it a few times and it’s a good temperature and very clean as are the changing rooms . There is also a cafe on the top floor which had a good variety of food and drinks in a modern bright environment we are very pleased to be members of such a great place to work out in a friendly environment All in all we love coming here

Fantastic experience: I really enjoy coming to this gym, it's a little small so sometimes it can get busy usually during weekday lunchtimes but the facilities are great, well maintained and the staff are very friendly. The Café is a real bonus and does a lovely cooked breakfast.

Positive experience: Great gym and pool facilities, very friendly staff. The opening times for Fridays and Saturdays however is very inconvenient, shutting at 4:30pm on a Saturday is far too early, even 8pm on a Friday compared to 10pm on normal weekdays

Fantastic experience: It's a nice leisure centre, with a not very big pool, but it's not that busy. There's a sauna, steam room too, and jacuzzi tub. It's adults only here.

Fantastic experience: Excellent facilities and a quiet pool environment in which to work on hydrotherapy exercises in advance of a hip replacement operation in 2 weeks time.

Fantastic experience: I always enjoy coming here. I think its the only gym in West Berkshire that let you use there sauna without being a member. It's good value for money and the staff are friendly. I look forward to my next visit.

Positive experience: Gym is fairly small and rarely has more than 2-3 people using it which is good. Quality of equipment is good but cardio machines a little dated (perfectly functional) Facilities generally are “ok” but not brilliant. The staff do seem very good though and friendly to members. Membership seems to be mainly people who are 60 years plus and under 20 which is an odd mix, perhaps due to my times of visit. The older members seem to only use the cardio equipment and the young (boys) seem to mainly attend to socialise and do very little else. Price is £60 a month but term is flexible which a positive. Think it’s fairly expensive for a small gym but better than the alternative local options. Would pay more for a more premium offering which I think lots of others would too.

Fantastic experience: First day back post COVID and it was very quiet. Bring your own water bottles as there are no longer any cups at the water cooler. The equipment is much more spread out than before as some of it has been moved into the squash courts, so it is quite easy to maintain your distance from others, and the team are constantly cleaning and sterilizing each station. You have to come dressed to train as the changing rooms are only to be accessed to use the toilets, but apart from that everything was pretty normal. Felt great to get going again...

Positive experience: Expensive but has everything you need for a good gym experience. Slimming world has a group there in the hall upstairs on a Wednesday 3.30 and 5.30 and 7.30. My daughter told me to mention this

Negative experience: EXPENSIVE & A RUDE OWNER... NO THANKS... Arrived at 14.45pm to be told they closed at 3pm, so no food available which was fine as we only required a cup of tea. Another colleague arrived a little later at 14.55pm but was still served. No problems so far. As our meeting finalised and we were finishing our drinks, a cleaner started hoovering around our feet at 15.10pm at which point it was clear we were not welcome there no longer. Another cleaner started to clear the table with our cups etc but tipped milk all over my phones.... no apology was made other than grunting under breath saying we should leave. (since found out she was the owner Wendy!) Completely amused by the fact she had tipped milk all over my phones carried on chanting abuse. I stated the fact well 'I certainly will not be coming back here', for her to reply ''Good, and don't come back'' Lost good paying customers for the sake of 10 minutes. Yet rang today and their still there at 4pm.... Jokers!! My former colleagues, whom spend a considerable amount of money there with bringing customers, clients & other colleagues, will now take their business else where. But how rude especially coming from the owner!! ABSOLUTELY HIDEOUS PEOPLE, STAFF INCLUDED. STEER CLEAR OF THIS EXPENSIVE & RUDELY RUN CAFE!!

Negative experience: I am cancelling the subscription that my wife and I have held for many years. The pool has been cold for ages, the spa seems constantly broken, the place is dirty and repairs to broken items are not being done. It's just going downhill. Some of the staff are sympathetic and understanding, however not all are, one staff member in particular has been rude and disrespectful.

Positive experience: A number of great morning, lunchtime and evening classes. A well equipped gym and weights room, that is on the small side. Showers could use some renovation.

Negative experience: Not worth the cost of the monthly subscription. Requires renovating! People are friendly but the centre needs Nuffield to release more money so the can upgrade the basics. [update 23/01/19] I understand that they have indeed renovated the centre now so this review might not be valid and I *may* even give them another go. However, at the moment I am going to a smaller centre for £30+ per month less and it has all the things I need, so they really do need to review their charges before I think about it! So many gyms out there offering so much for much less.
