BS7 Gym: Opinions
Negative experience: Decent gym would be better if it had better equipment
Fantastic experience: Had a fantastic personal training session with Kitty, and I love that there are so many different rooms to do different types of exercise. Well worth the membership price for me.
Negative experience: Ran into some difficulties with finances after 3+ years with the gym and they refused to cancel my membership without billing me for an additional month. Thanks!
Hi Tom, We are sorry you feel poorly treated. We do state in the terms and conditions that we require one calendar months notice for cancelation. You contacted us on Monday 15th April and we actioned your request following the terms of the membership. If you are only canceling due to financial difficulties, we can look at freeze options that may support you better. Please do contact us on [email protected] if this is something you would like to discuss. Kind Regards,
Fantastic experience: Friendly staff that make you feel welcome and great facilities :)
Thank you for the great review Madison.
Fantastic experience: I have been a member at BS7 Gym since 2019 and have had nothing but positive experiences during my time there! The staff are always friendly and will always help if they can. I recently booked a 5 block of PT sessions with Nick, which greatly helped my progress as well, he's a great PT and I can't recommend him enough! They have recently improved the gym with plenty of new equipment including treadmills etc. and new racks and benches, which is a great addition to alleviate waiting for equipment. Definitely one of the best gyms in Bristol!
Hi JJ, Thanks for the great feedback. We have now installed a new decline bench in the freeweights zone. We hope you enjoy taking it for a spin on your next chest day.
Negative experience: The ladies showers were out of order for the first two months I used this gym. The gym is old fashioned and overpriced for what you get. The classes were the worst I’ve had in a Bristol gym, with one of the PT’s just picking out newbies in every class and asking them what exercise they wanted to do. Mortifying for newcomers who want to keep their heads down and not stand out as a ‘gym newbie’. Some of the exercises in the class were also dangerous, I temporarily damaged my back from doing them, after following instruction from the PT. There is also no air con so the whole place gets extremely hot as soon as any heat hits the roof, I asked politely why there was no aircon to a member of staff, as I’ve never had this in a gym before, and he responded very sarcastically ’because it would cost us £35,000 a year’. I requested to quit after not attending for over a month and got slapped with an extra £35 charge which they have for whatever reason struggled to take from me and now requested I go in to make the payment. Absolutely would not recommend. Do not waste your time.
Negative experience: The gym (weights area and excersize rooms) is a decent one and they have a serviceable squash court but it is a bit run down and mouldy. However, my main issue with the gym has been the booking of the squash court. Bewilderingly, the gym uses telephone booking where you have to ring the gym and ask for a specific slot. On two separate occassions this has led to the staff booking the wrong time slot or double booking the court. This meant I turned up and had to wait around for an hour each time for the court to be free again. This was really inconvienent for me and meant I had finish playing later than I wanted to. I asked for some sort of compensation and they unhelpfully offered to 'extend my final month by one week' which makes no sense as I am leaving. It's irritating that the staff made a mistake in the bookings but these things happen - my main gripe is a lack of an online booking system which would make things much easier for everyone and prevent human error.
Fantastic experience: Good gym. Never too busy
Fantastic experience: Good gym. It's well equipped - I go for strength training and it's got lots of squat racks and other free weights equipment. And a real plus is it's pretty empty, at least when I go (between 8am and 9am on weekdays, and 9-11 on weekends). There is no waiting for equipment.
Fantastic experience: My regular gym, very friendly staff and wide range of equipment to use
Fantastic experience: I had an amazing health-check with Nick at BS7 and am so grateful for the time and wisdom he offered! The tips he gave me in that short session have transformed my attitude towards fitness/workout routines - he really simplified the process for me and made it crystal clear what I needed to prioritise. Months later and I am still implementing the practices he gave me.
Fantastic experience: On signing up you receive 1 free personal training session. I had this session with Rhys whom I cant recommend more. As someone that has experience in gyms I just needed a little guidance, Rhys went over and beyond to show me what exercises I should be doing, how to do them properly aswell as even curating a detailed push/pull training plan. BS7 Gym as a whole is an incredible gym, the layout is perfect for beginners due to the separate rooms, it never seems too busy and the equipment is always working perfectly.
Positive experience: Basic gym. Only half the staff on reception make eye contact or greet you. When there are cricket matches on, the security to get in is very silly and over the top. I gave up driving here as despite a good size car park, I can't cope with the jobsworth security. 50% of the gym is only available at very limited times as they use it for the cricket club. Tried to book a class once and was told it was fully booked every week by the same people, so basically I couldn't get it in. I don't like the general vibe. But, it's near my house. Which is why I go.
Fantastic experience: Great gym - brilliant staff
Fantastic experience: Basic but good value, friendly staff and spacious
Positive experience: Well equipped sports gym with good facilities and friendly, welcoming staff. Freezing cold though!?
Fantastic experience: Good gym with good facilities. I’ve had 10 sessions with PT Nick and it’s really helped me get into the gym and weightlifting. He’s really approachable and gives good instructions and makes sessions fun!
Fantastic experience: Very good timetable for classes and good facilities. Spin classes with Mike are really fun! Lots of squat racks so never have to wait to use it. I always recommend it to friends.
Fantastic experience: Been at this gym since for a few years now and it has gone from strength to strength. A fantastic gym with great facilities, staff are super friendly and always up for a chat before or after a session. The sauna is a great added feature not to mention the addition of the squash court. The HPZ really takes the gym to another level and with it being recently refurbished its just incredible, really gives it that elite sports facility feeling. The gym has recently all been refurbished and it looks phenomenal, from the paint work to the new floor mats just a massive upgrade from the old version. The separation of each room is fantastic so you can pick and choose which room you would like to train in. They have recently moved the machines around in the machine room which has made it so much more spacious and a great environment to train in. Cant speak on the female changing rooms but the male ones are really spacious and clean, their hand soap always smells nice too which is a bonus. One of the best smith machines Ive used in a gym super smooth and makes using it an ease. Staff are always up to help with any questions you may have and very knowledgeable. Never taken a class there so cant really speak on that. Another massive bonus is the lockers to keep belongings, most gyms tend not to have these which is a brilliant feature which other gyms should adopt. The water fountain is also great provides ice cold water every time. Gym is regularly cleaned throughout the day keeping it in great condition all day. Regarding over crowding, it has only ever been over crowded once but that was in January / February when new year members join other than that never really had an issue with over crowding. Parking is great too you can park literally opposite the scenic Bristol County Ground and whilst on the topic of cricket you get free access to cricket matches during the cricket season which tops it all off for me as a massive cricket fan. Overall a definite 5 ⭐️‘s from me
Fantastic experience: Great place:)
Fantastic experience: Such a friendly gym in Bristol. The staff are always so helpful and friendly, great range of equipment/classes and you’re on the Gloucester cricket ground!
Fantastic experience: Best gym in the world.
Positive experience: Good gym to join for the average athletic person, plenty in there and also free tickets to watch the cricket at the ground.
Fantastic experience: Great local community Gym with very friendly PTs and challenging classes - I would recommend giving it a try
Fantastic experience: V good gym, facilities etc added purk of being able to watch most of the cricket at Gloucestershire cc... internationals not included..
Fantastic experience: Friendly, well equipped and some good classes
Positive experience: Nice gym has all the equipment that you need for basic workouts. They offer a monthly contract as well as yearly. Definitely a good option if it's local.
Fantastic experience: This is a very good gym inside to cricket ground The staff are very pleasant and help in always classes are available to help you in your efforts to get fit
Fantastic experience: Top equipment, friendly staff.
Positive experience: Good comprehensive covid restrictions on place.
Positive experience: Well thought out COVID security measures although these mean you have to pre-book a session and that it's capped at an hour's duration
Fantastic experience: Clean and unthreatening environment. Good to be back.
Negative experience: Not the greatest of Gyms but is very 'down to earth' reasonably priced and very close to my house which was the initial attraction. In general i found the members were quite friendly. I attended quite a few classes which were sort of ok apart from one when the instructor turned up 20 mins late (despite already being in the building) and then clearly had no plan. It was a bit like at primary school when the substitute teacher turns up and gets you doing colouring in. The spin classes were ok but I couldn't really hear what the instructor was saying. That was a while ago and I left and came back again, wondering if they had manage to get themselves organised but the joining back up process was a bit of a shambles. People behind the counter not great at interacting with customers and they have decided to renovate the place while its open so it was a bit of a tip and there was wet paint everywhere. Not very professional and the social distancing measure between the staff and customers are a bit of a joke because they have to stick their head around the plastic screen to even hear you and i had to get behind the counter with them to put my pin number in anyway. There are no classes at all running at the minute, not sure what the reason for that is. As others have said, don't bother to e mail them as you will either get no response or eventually a very slow response.
Fantastic experience: Very well thought out. Feel quite safe. Love all the artwork! Great to be back. Thank you
Fantastic experience: Great gym, classes and staff. A highlight is the massive performance zone out the back. Like any gym, is busy at peak times.
Fantastic experience: Good gym with plenty of decent equipment. A few different rooms for different activities. One massive 'performance room' with a fair few racks and plenty of barbells. Also spin room, warmup area, cardio room etc. Decent membership prices.
Fantastic experience: I will be sad to one day say goodbye to this place.
Positive experience: Good facilities however the student membership is rather expensive. As a student living at university in a different city for part of the year I have had issues with freezing my membership for the months I am away. For example, I requested in mid December to freeze for Jan, Feb and March and was told the charge for Jan had already gone through and could not be refunded; not a very student friendly system. The performance zone (largest and best equipped room) is also sometimes closed to members due to the cricket club using it. This seems unfair given the members are paying to have access to all facilities.
Positive experience: Very busy gym, wish they did more options with classes such as step aerobics. changed gym because of limited classes. Partner loves it though.
Positive experience: Everything is really good, super kind and helpful staff, lots of equipments, like TRX or squash court. Price is relarively okay, they have good student discounts. The only issue with it is the general environment and atmosphere. Have no windows, old paint and doesn't have a pleasant smell (not sweaty smell though). The environment of it reduces my motivation a bit
Fantastic experience: Separated into rooms makes people new to gyms much more comfortable, I find. Great selection of classes and a free personal trainer session when you join makes it so you always feel supported. Free lockers, plus a sauna. Best gym I've belonged to. It also gives you access to the cricket and discounts at several nearby cafés, etc. I do wish there was more space for bikes, and that it opened slightly earlier. There's apparently a swimming pool further away but I need to look into that more before I let the distance knock a star off.
Positive experience: Great price with plenty of free classes to choose from
Positive experience: This is actually a great gym and the staff are really friendly. I just can't rate it more highly cos I hate going to the gym
Positive experience: Nice gym with a great array of free weights and cardio equipment but limited machines. Closures arent well advertised meaning i have been turned away various times. Update - The way this gym communicates with its members is an absolute joke. Nothing about the reopening of the gym is transparent, It took until the end of july just to get an opening date.
Fantastic experience: Very nice place and people. Why is there a guy shouting like there is no tomorrow when he works out? I think everybody is afraid of telling him, very politely, that his shouts can be heard from Cabot Circus. There is people in the shopping centre enjoying calmly an ice cream that is freaking out with that anger falling from the sky. Are the gods going to punish us with their ancient wrath?
Fantastic experience: I've gone to quite a few different gyms over the years including some of the bigger ones. The classes are smaller and you are guaranteed to be worked hard during each class. You get to know your instructors which makes it much more enjoyable. The gym is clean, has a good layout and is very affordable. The class timetable is well thought out and there is a car park on site.
Fantastic experience: This is my favourite gym for 30 years. The staff are the best and there is a relaxed atmosphere.
Fantastic experience: Local gym in Ashley Down at The Brightside cricket ground entrance. Made from converted squash courts and cricket nets hall, now a multi-room gym facility, plenty of individual machines, in house PTs, and rooms for group classes/team training.
Fantastic experience: Great training ground
Fantastic experience: Great gym and brilliant staff
Fantastic experience: Great gym
Fantastic experience: Everything but a swimming pool with the added bonus of GCC membership
Fantastic experience: Definitely my favorite gym in Bristol. Its quiet, cheap, staff and guests are friendly, and all the equipment you need is there.
Fantastic experience: My favourite ever gym! It's run by friendly, helpful, real people – and I never feel intimidated walking in and working out. Everyone here is more sports-focused (not mirror-obsessed), and I've met some lovely people in the classes, which are super fun. I switched to BS7 from another local (less friendly) gym and am so glad I did.
Positive experience: Friendly staff, new equipment, does the job!
Fantastic experience: Well structured for barbell training
Fantastic experience: Nice gym
Positive experience: Torn between leaving a great review so you know, and a bad review so you stay away. I've been a member of all of the main gyms but this one is the one I recommend because it's affordable, friendly and full of sports people not posers.
Fantastic experience: Lovely local gym with lots of classes available, squash included and saunas in the changing rooms, free cricket too included in your membership. Discounted membership for local businesses too
Fantastic experience: Recently joined and very happy!
Fantastic experience: Good gym with friendly staff. Free entry to cricket as well.
Fantastic experience: Lovely staff and a variety of free classes. Also free cricket as part of my membership is a lovely add on.
Fantastic experience: Very much enjoy being a member of BS7 Gym! Excellent staff and a range of good equipment available. Classes are all included which is great for me!
Fantastic experience: Excellent local gym with friendly staff. Sauna, Squash courts and free entry to cricket matches for a great price.
