Fantastic experience: Big bouldering area with lots of different problems for any level. I was there on a Saturday morning and there was plenty of space for everybody. Loved it!

Fantastic experience: It was my very first time climbing! We used the clip and climb section. Sam was very helpful and helped me through my fear! I really enjoyed it but I am not sure if climbing is for me. The rest of my group enjoyed themselves too.

Fantastic experience: Grading is sometimes all over the place - boulders graded much easier or harder than they actually are. However, the routesetting is some of the best I've seen anywhere, and this more than makes up for it. A joy to climb here.

Fantastic experience: We love this place! I take our kids (8 and 10) pretty often plus some evening climbing each week with friends. The kids both did Clip and Climb in the past but we all boulder now. The routes have a great range, easy to get started and plenty of challenge for later on. Everyone is really welcoming and helpful, staff and customers alike. One request I would have would be an up/down vote place for the music. It is usually great and sometimes… absolutely dire. I’m sure everyone feels the same way and if we could all vote, maybe it would be changed?

Positive experience: climbing wall is huge and multi-dimensional with the moves, styles and techniques you can pull off, i especially like the information on the difficulty of the holds and also it’s a nice place to meet people and get talking when they’re not on the wall, as for prices i think they’re reasonable for the quality of equipment and diverse range of routes that are available particularly if you’re going every 2-4wks or so but i wouldn’t give it a 5* because the staff unfortunately come off dryer than the chalk i use to climb with at times for some reason (maybe it’s the cold? which i can understand), but nonetheless they’re still mostly helpful and also the snacks served are really tasty. overall, good job.

Fantastic experience: Amazing place. Had an induction with Mitch (think I have that right) with myself and three ASD kids. Dealt with the chaos they bring so well and was really kind and generous with them. They (and I) had a blast. Can't recommend more.

Negative experience: Expensive lifetime registration fee of £11, where you complete a form and answer a few common sense “safety” questions. Other places do not charge a registration fee and have much stringent safety training. They have claimed that the costs are proportionate to their costs. You rarely see staff patrolling the climbing area.

Fantastic experience: Had a great first visit today, no previous bouldering experience. After reading some of the reviews I was a bit worried about the fees but because we were guest visitors of already registered members we didn't have to pay the registration fee. Also I was pleasantly surprised that we were allowed to go in wearing our own training shoes (and it was absolutely fine btw). We had a great time! Thinking about registering ourselves now. Additionally: If you need a locker, bring a padlock. The toilets are absolutely fine, I didn't get the fuss in the reviews. It wasn't cold. The air conditioning works fine. Not too busy on a Saturday afternoon.

She has always been scared of heights, but Alex’s sensitivity and encouragement meant that she overcame her fears with ease and loved every minute of her session. Positive experience: I love climbing at Bloc. It's a really nice open space with interesting routes and a good chillout area. Climbing with friends today, was dissapointed the staff could lend or even sell us some tape when one of us had a bleeding finger. It's also dissapointing to not have all the prices online, instead saying to speak to a member of staff about prices. It's on the board behind the counter but apparently I should have taken a photo!

Positive experience: Visited here for the first time, a little pricey to get set up, but it is a large centre, very open and airy, good atmosphere. Challenging routes, even the beginners have an element of challenge. Something for everyone it seems. My work colleagues visit regularly and say the courses appear to be changed regularly and updated. They were clearly working on a few walls when I visited today as they were blank canvases. Good to see as otherwise it gets boring. New challenges are always gratefullly accepted, so I'll definitely be going back! No real complaints. Find some of the negative reviews baffling tbh....

Positive experience: We had fun, but beware that it is more expensive as you have to pay a registration fee plus admission. Not sure how they calculate the registration fee (£11) when I just put in my contact details, and signed a waiver on an ipad, and answered 4 health and safety questions. So, I'm not sure why the fee is so steep. You should be paying me £11 to sign up considering I did the work to type my details into the ipad, joking of course, but the fee makes no sense. I could understand a couple of quid but £11! Daylight robbery!

Fantastic experience: Have been climbing at Bloc for nearly 3 months now. Love the atmosphere in here, it’s very friendly and chilled. Staff are absolutely lovely, and there are a great variety of climbs for all abilities. Loads of parking, good coffee, seating for reading/ working and a large open space to warm up in. Can’t fault it!

Negative experience: I came here today for the first time. I spent £28.50 for registration, shoe hire and entry. That is far too expensive for an evening hobby. If you pay for registration they should give you free entry that day. Entry with registration costs £13 during peak hours. The toilets were in poor condition so it’s ridiculous how expensive it is.

Fantastic experience: Take my son here and he loves it. The registration fee is unusual compared to other places but I can understand the thinking behind it. Maybe a bit more of an introduction for new members would make it feel like there's more value to it? We've always had good service from friendly staff when visiting although I feel the entrance process could be a bit more streamlined. We really enjoy the climbing. Some challenging and enjoyable routes have kept us coming back.

Negative experience: It doesn’t even deserve a star firstly you have to pay a steep entry fee of £13 for rude customer service and climbs which are beginner level. Its daylight robbery

Fantastic experience: What a great bouldering wall, and it has a kids clip n climb! The staff are super friendly and the route setters are some of the best in the country, with over 30 years of experience! I highly recommend checking it out.

Negative experience: Visited with my girlfriend whilst in Bristol for the weekend and not being local expected to pay for a single entry. Whilst waiting in line we completed the waiver, as fully expected to have to do one anyway. Waited around 15 mins to be seen and was initially told that we’d need to pay £11 each for a registration fee and then £13 each for entry free. I explained that this was a lot considering we were not local and not expecting to return often. We were then told we could pay £4 single day registration + £13 single entry but would need to fill out more paper based forms and sent off away from the desk to complete these. These took a couple of minutes and then we returned to the back of the line. After waiting again whilst the two staff juggled sign ins, registrations and making coffees, we decided to walk away. £17 is not, in my eye’s, reasonable for a single entry. Never mind the £24 which were originally told it would cost. On top of this the staff seamed to be managing too many different things for just the two of them. To be clear, the staff were polite and clearly working hard and we have no complaint with them at all! The disappointment for us, is the price point and registration system in place. A long wait on top of this made our decision. From the door route setting looked well thought out with a range of quality holds. Though I cannot give a fair comment of the quality of the climbing set. Would love to visit in the future at a more reasonable price.

Negative experience: I regularly climb between 4 different gyms back home in north Wales, none of which charges as registration fee. Told staff member I was only in Bristol for the weekend but still had to pay to become a "lifetime member". Entry fee is pretty standard but Id still consider it pretty pricey seeing as you only access to boulders, no sport or TR. The shop consists of a small locker with a couple of phyche chalk bags and brushes, pretty underwhelming, which leads nicely onto route setting, which is repetitive and pretty boring. Most of the staff seemed in a pretty low mood. Prices at this gym are crazy, it's not worth it and I feel slightly extorted ngl. I cant wait to get back to North Wales. *edit* I do appreciate the lockers tho

Positive experience: Strangely high price to sign up. £11 for registration (almost 3x the price I've paid elsewhere; some places even do it free), or £4 for "day registration". Staff just left us for 20 minutes after giving us forms and then when we asked to finally sign in, the staff member who was available didn't seem to know how to do the registration process. A further £12 for the day's climb, which isn't uncommon. Other than poor service and over charging for sign up, we had a good climb. Lots of walls and quite varied environments to try. As asked below, my name is Jacob. Registered for a day pass and climb at about 1 o'clock on Saturday 30/09/23.

Fantastic experience: Some great setting across a range of grades, weekly resets, nice vibes and good music. Highly recommend! Actually, although I think the setting ia great overall, it would be cool to see more spicy problems in the low range (v1-v3) and maybe the introuction of new grade bands: v6-v7, v7-v8, v8+. I know there's an argument of where do you stop. Well, I think this is where you stop :)

Fantastic experience: Amazed with the experience, considering it was so busy there were still plenty of routes to try and share. Everyone was accommodating and friendly including how nice the staff were!!! Facilities are great and reasonably priced! Just keep in mind on your first visit you need to pay a registration fee! Defo visiting more often now I am working in Bristol!

Fantastic experience: Went back to climbing at Bloc after a 5 year hiatus due to ill health. Staff were patient and welcoming, despite me being very anxious. They open earlier than they used to which means I can climb in a quiet centre which is less overwhelming. Lots of interesting routes regularly re-set. Centre clean & tidy. Only small wish is they had more time to keep social media updated about when walls are going to be reset/ sections cleaned, makes it easier to plan a quiet time, or know what to expect. Would be good if the lockers could be replaced in the future as many don't work even with a good lock.

Positive experience: Good routesetting, chill vibe, nice cafe - all in all my favourite of the three bouldering centres in Bristol as far as the climbing is concerned. With a better gym area (free weights please!) it’d be 5 stars, especially given the cost of the membership compared to TCA and flashpoint

Positive experience: I've been as a guest a few times and found it to be a good experience. Good use of space and I appreciate the short reach options! However, I am reluctant to go by myself because of the £11 registration fee. Neither Flashpoint or TCA have this reg fee so if I'm by myself, I feel I might as well go to one of those for a similar entry price. So cool place, good routes, good vibes but Id be more inclined to go without this reg fee:)) Edit: I would also like to mention that Flashpoint did have a first visit fee but has since taken that away due to negative feedback!

Positive experience: Good climbing, friendly staff, but I can't imagine how they justify the prices compared to other centres in Bristol. Considerably more expensive than both TCA and Flashpoint, while being the smallest with the least gym facilities. Also, with membership at the other two centres you have access to sport climbing/lead climbing centres, while Bloc only offers bouldering.

Fantastic experience: Great space with really good instructors and a decent cafe. Kids bouldering is fantastic and the perfect way to start a Saturday morning.

Fantastic experience: Visited Bloc Climbing Wall today to take my 5yo son to the ClipNClimb. Staff were fantastic, Mishka (hope I’ve spelt her name right!) was patient and a great coach. Facilities were surprisingly large and the cafe was a great treat. Will definitely be back.

Negative experience: I climbed at bloc for several months and the negatives unfortunately outweighed the positives. To start with the positives - 1) The setting is 3/5 - Great vision but unless you like parkour, you'll struggle with a large number of the problems. 2) Good coffee & cakes (albeit overpriced) 3) Not too busy, unlike many Bristol based centres. 4) The staff are really nice (however the entry lines are often bonkers). Negatives - 1) They charge customers for a 5* service when in reality, it's the worst bouldering gym in Bristol. Not only are they nearly £20 more a month than their competitors, you don't get a dual membership to a local sport climber centre like you do with others (TCA & Flashpoint). 2) The place is freezing half the year. Your feet will be so cold you'd prefer not to climb through the winter months (this also impacts staff moral & it's evident). 3) Their facilities aren't great - you can expect no showers, minimum training/warmup facilities & a non-functional water fountain. 4) THE COST. 5) Managerial attitude. I've no personal experience of this, but having checked other negative reviews, the owner obviously has little respect for his customers. Snarky comments in response to critical feedback is never appreciated. 6) Take home - go to TCA or Flashpoint. You'll get much better value for money.

Negative experience: Started climbing here a year ago as it was close to home. Saved some money by signing up to the year membership. You can't get out of the contract so if you sign up so make sure your circumstances aren't going to change in 12 months. The walls and setting are very good, the problems are decent and the only times the walls are too crowded is peak mid-week (same as anywhere). The staff are all really nice. Problems are set more frequently than other centres and the setters are top tier. Facilities aren't great. They are overpriced enough and get enough trade to not have to provide much so expect a basic stretching area, a few pullup bars and hang boards. Nowhere near the same gym facilities as any other climbing centre in Bristol. You'll pay about £20 pm more than somewhere else and receive worse facilities and no showers. Parking is always great though, it has a huge car park round back. The nature of the building makes for extremely cold climbing in the winter months so spend time warming up, it's not as warm as other centres in Bristol bar the Church. Not Bloc's fault at all but worth mentioning if you climb in the mornings before work as you'll need to wrap up. It opens later than other centres at 8am too, so you'll need to warm up at home to get some time in before work. You can work from the cafe and they provide free WiFi. It's not justifiable to spend the membership amount over a year on this place so just pay one-off fees here to climb with friends and use another centre in Bristol for your membership. My advice would be to try some other centres and check out the facilities of each before signing up to get the most value out of your membership; Bloc is nice but won't provide value for money.

Negative experience: On the website I thought you'd only have to pay the entry fee, there is no mention of any registration fee on there prices pay and was surprised that I had to pay an extra £4 each on top of entry to climb, not too much but they need to mention on the website, as I was only up for the day and would have gone flashpoint instead if knew. The holds look like they have never been cleaned, dey desperately need a jet wash as many of the foot holds have got so much shoe rubber they act as a non textured hold. gym has almost nothing in it, que to get in took ages and there was only 2 people infront of us, very slow registration process, poor quality toilets. Overall, not worth the money at all.

Negative experience: I am beyond disappointed with my recent experience booking an activity for my group of three on the website. I specifically booked an activity advertised as suitable for all ages - Clip n Climb - only to find out upon arrival that it was only for kids. When I requested to change to bouldering or explore other options, the staff flatly refused. Despite seeing only kids and parents doing Clip n Climb, they insisted it was appropriate for adults and young people. As a result, my group was unable to participate in the activity we had been looking forward to. I am extremely frustrated with the website for providing such misleading information and the staff for their unhelpful and unsympathetic response. It's a complete waste of my time and money. I am also deeply saddened that our plans were ruined by this experience. We were excited to try something new together and ended up leaving feeling disappointed and upset. It's a shame that the website and the staff's incompetence has led to such a negative experience.

I paid more to register at the centre than for the actual climbing. I've visited a large number of bouldering centres across the country and the most I've paid to register previously was £2.50. Really soured the experience unfortunately. EDIT IN REPLY TO OWNER Thank you for the response. The four centres in London I've registered with were for life not for a year so I'm not sure that's a fair assessment of other places, but 3 of them were free to register anyway. What does the £11 pay for aside from copying the information into your system from the form I completed? Thank you for your time.

Negative experience: good facilities but a bit of a money pit. 11 pounds just for the honour of registering. Shoes deer too and the 10 pass only last 3 months. Set up to take your money which is a shame. Management need to think a bit harder

Fantastic experience: I found the website a bit confusing and hard to navigate to get the information required but once there it is simple.... Climb. Some good bouldering for all levels and a very relaxed environment. My kids loved it and didn't want to leave and want to go again and again. There is a seating area for any non climbers with a cafe providing food and drink. Great day out. The only reason for 4 stars and not 5 is the website. The venue itself is 5 stars.... So I am giving it 5 on the review, but if you have difficulty with the website it's a 4.

Fantastic experience: We had my son's 7th birthday party with his friends here at clip'n climb. Good selection of walls to climb with a simple harness connection and sorry belay system, so most kids were able to clip themselves in and climb without much adult help. Unfortunately most of the 6-7 year olds in the group were too short (125cm min) to jump the leap of faith. The birthday package was good, with party food in individual paper bags setup on tables in the corner of clip'n climb. I've been bouldering here for many years. Great venue, nice and clean, friendly and helpful staff, and great coffee.

Negative experience: I used to do some climbing many years back and was really looking forward to picking it up again with my partner (who is a complete novice). Having just moved to Bristol, Bloc seemed like the perfect place as it was close to where we live so we booked onto an induction class. As luck would have it, I tested positive for COVID on the day. I called and emailed to ask if I could rebook onto a different day but was told ‘no, we have to stick to our 48 hour cancellation policy’ despite me explaining the situation. No compromise whatsoever. They offered to have a manager review the case but more than a week later I have not heard a single word from them at all. The whole correspondence left me feeling a little put off and cheated as I paid £60 for the group class I couldn’t attend even if I wanted to. What a shame as I was hoping to make this my regular gym- I do hope Bloc will review their policy for extenuating circumstances and improve their customer service in the future.

Positive experience: Generally OK and safety good, however, staff repeatedly walk past young children struggling to undo clip. They weren't busy, so I cannot understand why they aren't more proactive. Also, booking in state that leap of faith will start at 3pm, actually started at 3.10pm and ran out of time before all participants had a turn. We'll within their rights, but a long way short of proactive service. Could and should do better

Fantastic experience: I have climbed all the gyms in Bristol and I like bloc a lot, it feels bright an airy, and the coffee is great too. I like that some of the bouldering walls are quiet high and make you not want to fall which can push you to stick moves you might not have without the added adrenalin. I also liked being able to top out in a few spots which is really fun, I've not done the clip and climb stuff with kids but I think if your child is over six they would get into It!

Positive experience: The staff are friendly and some of the routes are very interesting. However, I’m not successfully registered as they don’t like me saying that ‘you can also jump off the wall to the ground’. The expected answer is ‘you should climb down’, which is quite interesting as people do jump off the wall when it’s hard to climb down or when you are out of strength and can’t carry on. Anyhow, it’s a good place for climbing.

Negative experience: I'm extremely disappointed and dissatisfied. The gym has so much potential to be great but falls short of good. The routes are just standard and are only interesting when Jack comes in to set. DO NOT PAY THE YEARLY RATE. I am a student doing a year in industry and I only came here because it was close to work. Unfortunately my work situation and hours have changed and I can no longer make it in to climbing. Due to the fact that I signed they year contract (the only contact they have) I am now essentially paying £310+ for a service I am simply not going to use, and with absolutely no sort of refund from Bloc. Don't make the same mistake as me!

Negative experience: Whilst visiting the area, I wanted to drop in for a quick climb. The pay as you go price was a bit expensive but acceptable, however be warned there is a registration fee! All in all, I would have been charged £21 for a single, one off session as a visitor. Ended up just going to another climbing centre a few mins drive away instead and climbing for half the price. (For reference, my regular centre charges £8.50 all in for a new visitor) Whilst I can't comment on the climbing too much, the centre looked great and the routes I could see looked very nicely set. Maybe next time I am in the area it's worth another look - fingers crossed the registration fee is gone by then!!

The staff are polite and extremely helpful while other patrons are friendly, offering route guidance and tips. Added intended 5th star, had finger trouble writing review.

Fantastic experience: Coffee, Climb and the Beer. Providing you follow this order of activity, little can go wrong. I have a lot of time for more traditional climbing walls, but I must say I do enjoy the atmosphere of this bright and open venue - and I do enjoy the problems. Had to re-do my intro, as I took a break and the membership I’ve had since the opening week seems to have become invalid - the instructor was enthusiastic and rather funny!

Positive experience: Staff are friendly enough. Too many kids per session imo. Also almost everyone finds difficulty using the clip and unclip lock. Kids seem to enjoy it though.

Easy to spend several hours climbing the many different walls and still be discovering new routes. They require a bit of experience to register/join or a current member to bring you as a guest.

Fantastic experience: Super-friendly bouldering centre with 4.5m walls. Loads of variety of routes and grades. Covid means wearing masks as you move around and a 1 way system but doesn't detract from the climbing
