Our comment from FitFit UK about Sports Park:
Welcome to Sports Park in Exeter, United Kingdom, a fantastic sports center offering a wide range of facilities and activities for everyone. The gym is equipped with a great variety of machines, providing options for both cardio and strength training, ideal for students and the public alike.
Highlights:
- Excellent facilities, modern and well-maintained.
- Friendly and helpful staff.
- Wide range of sports available, suitable for all interests.
- Good atmosphere with a community vibe.
- Affordable prices, especially for students.
While most users sing praises for its vast offerings, some have voiced concerns regarding overcrowding during peak hours and the maintenance of certain gym equipment. It's recommended to visit at less busy times to fully enjoy the amenities available:
- Peak hours can be very busy, especially from 18:00 to 20:00.
- Some equipment is in need of repair, which can affect workout experiences.
- High traffic from both students and public attendees can make accessing machines challenging.
Overall, Sports Park remains a beloved destination for those looking to engage in sports and fitness activities, combining excellent services with a supportive environment.
Sports Park: Opinions
Negative experience: Extremely disappointing! There are several machines which have been broken for over three months and still have not been fixed. Half the cable machines have one side that is broken. The university is clearly taking advantage of the students, they have thousands of paying student gym membership yet do not bother to look after and fix the gym. This doesn’t of course include the fact it’s extremely overcrowded during evening hours and with so many broken equipment it has become very frustrating trying to get a workout in.
Negative experience: Decent, but way overcrowded and pretty sure nothing is ever cleaned. I have visible grime on my hands after using the weights.
Fantastic experience: Love the sports park, I'm up there all the time!
Positive experience: Gym has lots of good facilities. Can get quite busy during peak times of 1800 - 2000 so avoid going there at those times. Classes were really good. Especially enjoy the yoga.
Fantastic experience: Good place to workout with amazing facilities.
Negative experience: This is a review specifically for the gym, not including all the facilities of the sports park. The main issue is, the gym simply does not have the capacity to cater for over 20,000 students AND the public. It is constantly over capacity, it is difficult enough just to walk around the place, let alone try and get on a machine. It’s surprising considering Exeter’s reputation as a sports uni. Secondly, the equipment isn’t maintained very well, a lot of cable fittings are in need of replacing, especially d handles, and some equipment simply needs replacing as it seems very old. The range of equipment is ok for the space, but again, absolutely not for the amount of people using it, and there are too many cardio machines, some of which are never in use, wasting valuable space Overall, very disappointed, and recommendation, for the public, definitely do not sign up. If you’re a student, I wouldn’t either unless you plan on only doing cardio
Positive experience: Bit good, toilets
Fantastic experience: Excellent facilities in the university, easily accessible by the public as well. Loads of different sports can be played here, so all in all a fantastic sports centre
Fantastic experience: Great facilities
Positive experience: Excellent gym. Well equipped. Only downsides are the unbearably grating public school freshers that go there.
Positive experience: Always clean and friendly
Fantastic experience: Gym + Tennis = W
Positive experience: Great but Extremely busy gym, it gets quite annoying and hard to have access to equipment if you go during the week. It would at least be good to have some sort of graph showing peak times
Fantastic experience: Quality setup
Fantastic experience: Amazing facilities
Positive experience: Has a good range of facilities and classes that are included with the more expensive price packages. Almost feels unusable in peaks times, such as September-January. The staff are friendly and are always willing to help. The package prices are also slightly cheaper than some other gyms in Exeter.
Fantastic experience: Excellent
Fantastic experience: The best gym in town for students. Facilities for all sports. Respectful staff and users. No weird bodybuilders moaning outloud when lifting and hitting on you at random. Large free weight area. Good to meet students. Reasonable price compared to the market. Could be open later on Sundays. Would be perfect if an outdoor basketall court was added outside as the demand for this is very high. Would also be great if an athletic track was on campus as the nearest one is 45 min away.
Fantastic experience: Fantastic
Fantastic experience: Brilliant modern facilities with very helpful staff
Fantastic experience: Great gym, staff are super friendly and it's very clean/stuff is in good repair -- almost any bit of equipment you could want as well
Fantastic experience: Reception staff at the Sports Centre were very friendly and helpful.
Positive experience: A very expansive and well equipped Gym, with something for basically everyone. It does however feel like everyone is there at peak times.
Fantastic experience: Brilliant gym!
Fantastic experience: I love this place achieved my gaol.
Fantastic experience: Lovely jubbly
Fantastic experience: Amazing range of equipment, always clean
Fantastic experience: Lovely sports park. The only problem is parking team minibusses. They should save space for teams coming in
Fantastic experience: Amazing facilities
Fantastic experience: Staff really helpful. Clean and modern facilities. Love it.
Fantastic experience: 3g pitch is immaculate
Positive experience: Their renovations aren't all that one would hope
Positive experience: Good facilities. Parking for 2hrs. But hard to find on the campus.
Positive experience: Rubber crumb pitch. Good facilities.
Fantastic experience: Attended the outdoor facilities for a school football competion , as far as outside goes its top notch 4g pitches
Fantastic experience: Best place for sport, I play football and squash here all the time, it's very good
Fantastic experience: The gym is extremely well equipped. There are plenty of cardio machines and also a very large section of free weights.
Fantastic experience: Great facilities - clean & well kept.
Positive experience: Good atmosphere and crowd
Fantastic experience: Great facilities
Fantastic experience: Great facilities
Fantastic experience: Great class, cool gyms
Positive experience: Why is it on the top of a hill?
Positive experience: Well equipped but gets busy in term times.
Fantastic experience: World class facilities
Positive experience: Super fun ,
Positive experience: Staff are friendly and great facilities. Pretty busy in term time. Could do with opening up the ADC again...
Fantastic experience: Well I have been going there a few years to the gym and classes. It can get busy but there plenty of gym machines and freestyle exercise areas. They have a wide range of classes in the day and into the early evening. How busy the classes are depends on the time of year. Not met any unfriendly class instructors though some are tyrants (lol). Would recommend if you just want a simple gym and class experience.
Positive experience: Decent facilities - busy when you’d expect but unreasonably overpriced considering all the people that go there already pay high tuition fees.
Fantastic experience: Really good gym. Has everything needed
Positive experience: There are not enough machines available at this gym. It can get very crowded during peak hours. For the amount that they are asking per membership, you would expect a larger selection of machines and equipment, and a larger space as well to accommodate for the amount of people that visit.
Fantastic experience: Great place for sport well equipped gym
Fantastic experience: There are 4 nets in the indoor facility with a first floor viewing platform facing the batsman and some seating on the side. We have been using these facilities for many years now as they offer Saturday morning cricket club for 6-10 year olds with excellent coaching and fun games for the children. More recently we use it for bowling and batting practice sessions. The staff at the front are always helpful and the cricket staff are wonderful, I would recommend booking a net session and using these well maintained facilities.
Negative experience: We got rudely pushed off our courts by footballers and then when we asked staff to get our courts back they simply removed our courts. No refund or apology from the staff. The young women and man could not understand basic verbal communication. We got cheated out off half and hour and a court. Also there was mud and grass on the court and I had to personally ask for a mop to clean 2 courts myself, absolutely brain numbing bad. However normally there are two very nice young men who help us.
Negative experience: After asking staff to move football players from our badminton courts, they instead took down our net and left the footballers on our court even though we had paid for the court. After requesting the net to be put back up, they refused and walked away. This is not the case for all staff however, as usually in that case proper action would be taken. If you are asking for help make sure to ask the young blonde man who is very helpful.
Fantastic experience: Awesome
Fantastic experience: Very Good facilities
Positive experience: Very well equipped but let down by the lack of cleaning
Fantastic experience: Great facilities, great price.
Fantastic experience: Great facilities and reason price for staff/students. Can get busy between 18:00 and 20:00 weekdays.
Fantastic experience: Go here daily. Facilities are great and the staff always are welcoming and helpful. Would highly rate the gym
Positive experience: Showers now 8% warmer
Positive experience: Good with new Equipment but sometimes a bit crowded
Positive experience: Good facilities, nice people and a good price... but! Lately, they are running virtual sessions that don't necessarily work and I personally don't like and the summer classes are almost unexistent! A gym without classes in the summer... not good.
Fantastic experience: Decent price, good facilities
Positive experience: Gym is amazing. Obviously cost a lot.
