Positive experience: Having moved from Reading West ‘The Gym Group’ to Basingstoke, I was very disappointed with how small it was. It is smaller but costs more & has less apparatus!

Negative experience: EDIT- Response to The Gym Groups reply. “Thank you for taking the time to respond to my review. I now admire the Gym group even more and share your commitment to Net-zero. I’m keen to play my part and all I ask, is that a shared sponge/pad and spray be made accessible to users to “clean” (not wipe) machines down. That would still reduce waste while empowering members with the option to clean should they wish to. It’s a small ask for a more hygienic environment. Thanks” Was 5 stars, now it’s 2 due to Hygiene. I’ve been using gyms across Basingstoke for the past 8 years and have been a member of 4 gyms in that period. I’ve changed gyms due to location, cost or better facilities but each gym has been good in its own right. PROS- Ample parking, open 24/7, great staff, lots of equipment so you don’t have to wait long for use. Compared to other gyms I’ve rarely had to wait long to use occupied equipment as there are so many. Arguably best value for money gym in Basingstoke (and I’ve tried the really poplar Gyms across Basingstoke) CONS- Following a recent price hike, which I thought was reasonable, given the value of what you get, the cleaning stations have been removed and there are signs asking people to bring towels to wipe down machines. The cleaning station normally has tissue and disinfectant and was easily accessible throughout the gym. This helped make the gym a very clean and hygienic environment and is one of the many reasons I joined this gym. All gyms I have been to, even before covid, always had water fountains, bathrooms, lockers and cleaning stations so it’s not like this was a unique, non standard feature. If you used a communal kitchen or bathroom, you wouldn’t use your sweat soaked towel to clean up after others and to clean up after yourself but it seems to be the new expectation here. To compound this issue, since this new policy, I can count the total number of people that actually bring towels on only one hand, and I’m often having to use equipment that has sweat or hair grease patches on them or cardio machines with dried sweat baked onto the controls and panelling. And my new favourite is barbells and dumbbells that surprise me by still being slippery with other peoples sweat. In the gyms defence, I have seen a staff member proactively going round the gym to clean machines straight after people’s use but haven’t seen this done on other days. So there is effectively no cleaning facility for gym users, beyond relying on purely goodwill of others and them bringing a towel to “wipe” (not clean) machines. While I honestly couldn’t care what other people do, it’s the limitations I now have on what I can do about it, that frustrates me. Especially as all I can do, is dry things with a towel but am not able “clean” anything myself. While I’m sure some people are less fussed about germs etc. even the pandemic showed how bodily fluids left unchecked can easily spread illness and this recent change has come across like the health and hygiene of the members is now less of a priority. I sincerely hope the gym revise their approach as that ruined its perfect score for me.

Fantastic experience: I can't recommend The Gym enough. The price is great and I'm not restricted by the hours I can/can't attend which is great for someone with a hectic lifestyle like myself. It would be nice to have a few more class options particularly for evenings however, even on busy days, I've never struggled to find equipment or space to get my workout in. The PTs are knowledgeable and always on hand if needed, each with their own speciality however I want to give a shout out to Gem who has always been an incredible support during any workouts. Very accommodating to my needs and has always been supportive with advice and taking my personal circumstances into consideration when doing so. She has given me so much confidence in my work outs. Thank you!

Fantastic experience: I have used the Gymgroup since I was about 16 and have done so up and down the country at various different branches. It has been one of the only reliable gyms that I have been to, even through Covid and at an excellent and affordable price for students too! A fantastic community where I have never felt unsafe and the classes (included) are amazing too!!

Fantastic experience: I joined this gym in January and am really enjoying it. Because it is open 24 hours a day, I can go whenever I want. There’s so much equipment. They have a range of PTs too which is great. Having had a back operation, I now know that what I am doing is going to beneficial in my recovery.

Great range of classes and PT’s, Gem in particular is awesome….she really knows her stuff and always has a smile on her face. If you’re deciding on what gym to join in Basingstoke….look no further!!

Fantastic experience: Really friendly and knowledgeable trainers with a wide variety of specialist knowledge, Gemma is particularly friendly and approachable if you’re new to the gym environment. There is plenty of varied equipment, it’s accessible 24hrs with very fair pricing. Suitable for both the new and experienced, what’s not to like?

Fantastic experience: Been a member for 7 years now. The Staff are amazing always on hand to support members and offer their knowledge in the gym. Recently had some dumbells so they go from 2kg > 50kg. 2 platforms, 2 squat racks, decent amount of benches but the room is limited when the gym is at peak times. Plenty of cardio machines favouring treadmills, few bikes and spin bikes, few x trainers and 2 stairmasters. Also new skii urg and 2 assault bikes.

Fantastic experience: I love training here. There is ample equipment, spacious and easy to access. I did a PT session with James whom I highly recommend. I visit regularly and have never had a bad experience here. It is also good value for money, especially as it is open 24/7.

Fantastic experience: This is my gym. The last time I went to a gym I didn't enjoy it and it really put me off. I felt alone and a bit clueless with really blunt staff. Not these lot, not a chance. Really approachable and not at all patronizing. They helped me out, got me comfy and before I knew it I was whizzing around like a boss. They never let me down.

Fantastic experience: Been at this gym for a couple of years on and off now. Although it gets busy at peak times, like most gyms, there's still some equipment free at all times. The management team and PTs are all lovely, knowledgeable and happy to help. A nice range of equipment to train with, as well as a matted area for stretching and floor work. Good value for money and nice atmosphere. Would recommend ⭐️

Negative experience: A review of the systems and not the gym. Bought a day pass for 3rd April (today) on 2nd April. When received by email it said it was for the 1st. Aha belated April fools ok. Was only At the gym door that realised this and couldn't get in, nobody can help. I bought another for 3rd April making sure to double check it was that date and BTW on check out it doesn't show a date at every step. Email comes in ON 3rd April your pass is active 2nd April. At that point £21.98 down I gave up. Waiting for customer service to open to hopefully get a refund.

Positive experience: Too full even late nights

Fantastic experience: My opinion about this gym is positive. It's sometimes very busy, but everyone will find something for themselves here. All the trainers are very friendly and like what they do. I wanted to give a special thank you to Nathan, who runs the classes with passion and always tries to surprise us;) thank you especially for the burpees and devils presses. See you soon :)

Fantastic experience: Absolutely love this gym. The space is perfect, free parking and accessible by public transport, great equipment and the 24/7 approach is awesome. However, my favourite part is the staff. After attending another gym where I couldn’t find staff and when I did, they made me lose all my confidence in working out, these guys made me feel awesome again. They are friendly, helpful and based on my experience working with a PT, they really know their stuff. It is a popular gym, but it’s clear to see why. Love it

Positive experience: I use this gym occasionally when I am travelling - it's convenient, clean, and has decent equipment. However, please can I ask that you consider upgrading the platforms with some denser, less springy rubber? It's a bit dangerous how much the bar bounces when doing deadlifts, causing juddering throughout your lower back as you try to control the landing. There isn't really anywhere else that lends itself to doing deadlifts so with the current setup you can't do sets of deadlifts (non touch and go) without difficulty. Thank you!

Fantastic experience: My first trip to a gym for many years and I was really nervous about going in given I'm in my 50s, very unfit and overweight but there's a really nice atmosphere in The Gym and lots of different shapes, sizes and ages so it feels a really safe space. The app is great as you can check to see how busy it is so if, like me, you would prefer less people around while you navigate how to work the different bits of equipment and get into the swing of things you can choose to go when it's a bit quieter. The equipment all seems to be in good order and each time I've been I've seen staff cleaning everything regularly.Only been twice so far but I've actually enjoyed the experience which is something I didn't think I would be saying

Fantastic experience: I recently joined this gym, and it's been pretty great so far. The parking is easy, the staff are super friendly, and the place is really clean. I visited another Gym Group in London while I was on a work trip, and it made me appreciate the Basingstoke one even more. The London gym was dirty and the changing room was tiny.

Positive experience: Can't speak for how busy it is in the evening but between 6-8am it's fine, can usually get on all the equipment needed. Clean, well-maintained gym with good changing room facilities. 4 squat racks and 2 platforms means there's a decent amount of space for lifting weights as well as plenty of other equipment. Only one wide cable machine and one Smith machine.

Fantastic experience: I have been to this gym for 4 weeks and I have got to say I have been in the best shape then I have ever been. Sometimes it can be very compacted but if you focuses on yourself then you will be fine. If you need some help or want to learn how to do something the staff team are super nice and will help you out in the gym. I personally have only had two times where I felt very uncomfortable in the gym because of people constantly looking at me but beside that I would recommend this place to new people who want to start going to the gym.

Positive experience: It's good, but there are not many things to do, or it didn't look motivated to work out as much as in Resding or somewhere else.

Positive experience: Although a small gym and quite busy, the people seem friendly and it’s not a bad atmosphere there. Staff are almost nowhere to be seen and when my code didn’t work I stood pressing the alarm buttons outside for 10 minutes - nobody came. Eventually my code decided to work (yes I entered it correctly before). Like most gyms these days, the staff are lazy.

Fantastic experience: I'm not even a member yet. Saw it while looking for fast food (Don't) Just thought I'd poke my head in, there's no way of getting in so I buzzed someone called FABIAN. He gave me the most honest, non up-selling, chilled reply not jumping on me but gave a good relaxed pitch to my questions. Had a laugh. Personally I would have normally gone away and thought about it, Fabian mainly made my mind up and I shall be joining, and at that price with no Contract... You get a better gym than in town, half the price almost. Staff that help and no contract. It's a no brainer. Big praise to Fabian, hope I'm spelling that right.

Fantastic experience: I have been training here since it opened, has all the equipment needed for most people. Can get busy during peak times, but that's to be expected, hence its called peak time. If you are looking for a coach Jess is amazing, I would recommend her every single time! I have been training with her for a couple years now

Fantastic experience: Great Gym with great staff! Albeit the gym can get somewhat busy at peak times you can always find something to train or do. The toilets and changing room for women’s is always very clean and the gym overall is always fresh and you have the equipment to clean the equipment yourself should you feel the need. The staff are lovely and are very encouraging, so with that a special mention to Zoltan who is a great coach and also Dave who both have put up with my rants and in recent times Calum and Jack who all are very approachable and friendly.

Fantastic experience: Frequent visitor to the gym and attend regular classes, classes are great and instructors always motivating and find good ways to challenge us and are adaptive to all abilities. Very much would recommend and will be a long term member.
