Sharky's Gym: Opinions
Fantastic experience: Best boxing gym in Leeds for children and great coaches
Fantastic experience: How comes I cannot join through your website? Make me a world champion. I need your help rn
Fantastic experience: Old school gym practices, definitely recommend and highly regarded in Leeds.
Fantastic experience: Our young boy goes here and he can't wait to go every week he loves it loves the games they play and there work ethic as our boy loves to be pushed that little bit extra thanks team Sharkey highly recommend
Fantastic experience: Sharkey teaches discipline and good fundamentals. I go to his adult class and whilst on the heavy bag exchausted, he’s chanting life is not easy it’s hard - push yourself !! I use this for everyday life too!! This is a fantastic gym for kids and adults. Don’t put your kids here if you don’t want them To be pushed and accountable for. If you just want a attendance record and gold stickers, this is not the place. Well done sharkey!!
Fantastic experience: Very good gym, been here a few months, reading all these reviews of the coaches being hard on kids but I personally think it makes them work harder
Negative experience: My friend recently asked me what was my worst experience of a gym, I named this gym, he proceeded to check reviews and brought to light what others had said about the gym. I thought I would share my experience. Firstly, I can vouch for every negative review as totally accurate accounts as this was what I also experienced. I visited the gym about two years ago, during that one session I witnessed a young child being made to cry from the bullying of the staff. I felt to sick my stomach as I knew that kid would grow up to hate boxing simply because someone was incapable of making training a positive/fun experience... especially for children. The gym was run like a military bootcamp, I can't imagine how badly the people who regularly train there must have their confidence knocked (again exactly what another review said). Secondly, I spoke to a young woman who was a student at the university prior to the class. She informed me this was her first time ever attending a boxing session. What happened next should of never happened and is indicative of the toxic environment this gym has. The girl was pressured into sparring with what I assume is an experienced member of the gym. Moments later the girl ran out of the ring crying as the sparring partner had broken her nose. This was irresponsible of the coach to put her in that position. I personally believe this shows the toxic nature of the gym if people are willing to spar that hard. Especially when you can tell that the person is inexperienced. If you're thinking of sending your kids here. Don't. You will most certainly ruin their perception of martial arts, put them off for life and ruin their confidence (this should be fun for anyone of any age!). As another review said, I have had pleasant experience at Tiger gym (nice woman who teaches there), scramble academy is also great for martial arts. However, the most child friendly is ichiban which is in the same building! Super friendly staff, the owner who I can't remember the name of was one of the most welcoming people I ever met, made me feel right at home. The children class was before the adults and they incorporated games into the learning, if I had a child I would definitely send them there. As for adults, I wouldn't waste you're time, there are far better options as mentioned.
Hello John we always give people a hundred percent of are time and been going for 35 years making alot of champions any problems please let me know
Fantastic experience: Great boxing gym with great coaches, friendly for beginners and advanced boxers
Fantastic experience: great support, knowledgeable staff
Fantastic experience: Really great place from beginners 2 competition n the coaches have the right mix of strict no nonsense approach but after training they r nice guys!! Wow they really do work u hard so if ur not prepared 2 work till u throw up n then keep going, u might not b able 2 keep up but that's the only way 2 create champions!!
Fantastic experience: Been taking my lad there now for six months he loves it a massive thank you to sharky and coaches for sorting him out
Fantastic experience: Sharky's and Steppin Razor are fantastic gyms with great coaching staff. Would very highly recommend for all walks of life from casual to competition.
Fantastic experience: If you're looking to get fit and lose weight for whatever ever reason sharkeys gym is the place to go. I needed to get fit for my navy officer training and it had been recommended that I do circuit training. Having never boxed in my life I was at first apprehensive but went down to try a Tuesday evening circuit class and never looked back. For only £4 a session at 6.30 on Tuesday and Thursday I couldn't believe how good it was. Stephen, the gentleman who takes the class constantly pushed me beyond my limits and really went the extra mile to get me fit for my navy training, the way he tailors each session to cater for every participants fitness goals is admirable. The only thing I'm annoyed about is not going here sooner.
