Fantastic experience: We completed our tour with Paul. We cannot fault the service provided. Paul was really knowledgeable, took the time to understand our personal situation and personalised the tour accordingly, which gave us confidence in the value of the club. He was able to answer all our questions and took the time throughout the process to get to know us and build a great relationship making us feel welcome. We came back to do the sign-up in person and found that of huge value. Being able to go through the app and get completely set up so that we are ready to use the club to its full potential. Overall I do feel the service provided was what persuaded us to join. And would like to thank Paul for doing a great job

Positive experience: We’ve joined as a family to spend time together and for me to lose weight and feel human again. I’m a large lady, and was feeling a little intimidated by the “sporty Mummies “ But the time of day we’re going seems to be less crowded, and to be honest, there’s plenty of other people on the same health journey as me! I’m looking forward to my PT sessions, and am even considering a couple of the classes! My only dislike is that the pool ( both) are very open to view, I’m not a great swimmer ( need to find swimming teacher!) and I’d feel a little silly doing my thing with everyone watching… All the staff are great,supportive and helpful. Menu in cafe is great for a slimming world diet along side a hungry husband! So my journey to a size 10 begins….

Positive experience: Been a member a few years now. Started out getting my fitness back and had the brilliant Dan as my PT. He was simply excellent.. He is responsible for getting me back to full fitness, all done with good chat and bants. He motivated me, taught me how best to use all the machines and weights, and has provided me with a full program which I now live by. I am so grateful to him for all of his expertise. Now, 4 stars instead of 5. The new gym is incredible, but you need to have at least one free staff member in the gym to help people out. Staff all there are very friendly and Tom West is exemplary, sweeping and wiping and getting stuck in at all times if the day.

Fantastic experience: This is the best gym in Newbury with the most amazing facilities including outdoor and indoor pools/ spa , etc.! I liked going there and especially enjoyed sitting in a cafe and drinking a protein shake after my training. You can go with your family and friends and everyone will get something they like there. Big thank you to the gym staff as they were always very helpful!

Fantastic experience: We are new members and have really enjoyed spending time together at the club. I have had problems with my back and hips for many years, I have seen many medical professionals as well as other types of therapists none have helped. I have seen Thom for two of my three kick start sessions. He has listened patiently whilst I moaned about my back,hip problems and he responded by giving me excercises. Thom has changed the excercises when I have physically found them difficult and always finds something positive to say. Even after a short period of time I have seen a difference in my mobility of my joints. I highly recommend Thom especially if you have had long term mobility or joint problems.

Fantastic experience: I have been a member for a couple of years and I have not regretted it. The facilities a great and the staff are friendly and helpful. I have Personal Training with Jake who has been very focused and positive, supporting my training for specific events and mindful of injuries etc. I would definitely recommend both Jake and David Lloyd.

Fantastic experience: This place has changed my approach to wanting to be fit and I love it. I’ll start with some negative feedback in an attempt to give the five stars some balance. Yes, it costs more money than the local leisure centre. I am a father but still, in truth, there are times when sitting in the ‘bar’ area is a little unpleasant if you are not there to take kids to soft play. I am sure the club would say sit in the quiet zone, easy to say but this is somewhat like a library and to sit in there and have a chat would cause some sideways looks. On that note the carpet is ripped, the chairs at the two desks are uncomfortable and the two desks go to soon and could do with a lot more of them to make it more of a work zone. Spelling mistakes on signs in the gym are a little funny at an up market gym, by way of sign posting for after referb ‘under 16’s are NOTE to use the….’ Right, now for the reasons to join, Personal trainers, Rachel Andre is brilliant and shows a genuine interest in more than the hour in front of them they are being paid for. The equipment, you can get on everything all the time, even in the smaller gym during referb, The classes, brilliant and if you are on the ball you can get on easily enough. Spa, why wouldn’t you it is a nice place to relax after a work out The friendly welcome every time you walk through the door. The very nice coffee when relaxing or working. The security, leave your phone on a treadmill and it will still be there when you come back, The pool in the summer it is like a nice resort pool where everyone looks like they are having a good time. Supportive members if not vocally no funny looks at the fat guy trying his hardest to get fit. In general, if you can, and importantly you will use it, DO IT.

Negative experience: Dreadful temporary gym facilities at a premium price! I am paying £270 for a Platinum Membership and the temporary gym facilities are dreadful. They are in a marquee so it was too hot for most of last week to use them. The area is stuffy, cramped and some of the machines were not working. There was only one fan and not even a water cooler. Just plastic cups and tepid water! Go to your local gym; it can't be any worse!

Fantastic experience: I've been exercising for 50+ years and I've had many personal trainers during that time. Rachel however, from David Lloyd Newbury is by far my favorite. Great knowledge of nutrition and exercises.

I did not want to come to a gym as I live an active life, but since being a member I see how much I needed the club . Jake is always acknowledges my presence and is willing to talk about how to improve my performance. I always look forward to the next class and to the challenges Jake has set us. Fantastic experience: So I’ve recently just joined the club and was given a tour around by Paul Bamber, who was incredibly helpful and informative of the clubs memberships and classes. He was super friendly, always smiling and gave me a great tour around. I’ve also had a couple of personal training sessions with Chloe Elliot, she has been absolutely brilliant. Really helpful with setting up a plan for my future workouts. She’s very knowledgeable and so kind and welcoming. Definitely a credit to the club!! So far my experiences of the club have been fantastic, the reception team are again so help and welcoming. I would really recommend anyone thinking of signing up to go down and ask for a tour.

Fantastic experience: I love this place, yes the membership is pricey, but well worth the money. The spa area is very zen, and the yoga teachers I have had are brilliant, in fact all staff are friendly. I mostly go before work, or at lunchtime and often pick up a quality sandwich on my way out

Fantastic experience: I absolutely love coming here, its like a mini getaway holiday place for me, the staff are always very friendly,helpful and welcoming to me, Kellie Whiting has changed my fitness life completely, she makes you feel safe and inclusive when it’s hard to feel you fit in and makes motivating myself to come and do classes a breeze, always has time for everyone, a true earth angel! And all of the hospitality/restaurant/reception/lifeguards I’ve encountered have been lovely to me, Evie makes the best coffee for me! India is great by the pool with my boy, Chloe(reception only one) is lovely on reception! And lots of others I know but can’t list/remember all the names sorry! Keep up the amazing work guys and thank you for making it a pleasant place to get away from everyday life x

Positive experience: David Lloyd Newbury is a great club but there’s definitely some improvements to be made. Pros: Adult lounge doubles as a coworking space, you’re able to work all day with very comfortable tables and order coffee and food to your desk easily, a membership at the Regus Newbury would be more than you pay for a platinum membership at DL so I consider it good value. Gym is way quieter and nicer than cheaper equivalents such as PureGym - if you value your sanity and don’t like waiting 30 mins for a bench it’s a good choice. Outdoor pool, sauna, and spa shower all very nice. Areas for improvement: On weekends the place is completely overrun with stressed out mums and crying babies, walking in you’ll have kids running all around you and have to watch your step (that busy lol), a shock to the senses walking in to the level of noise from that, it feels more like a chaotic and very loud crèche than the premium health club its marketed as. Both indoor and outdoor jacuzzi have been no hotter than mildly lukewarm for over a month - what’s supposed to me extremely relaxing after a long day feels like a sweaty lukewarm bath with a bunch of strangers… I get energy costs are hitting everyone but it makes it very unpleasant and im not the only member to feel this way. Overall the spa does not compare to other David Lloyd clubs, for example London Cricklewood Lane has a Himalayan salt sauna, a WAY nicer steam room, heated loungers and a cold plunge - Newbury is much more mediocre. I’ve been a member for over a month now and whilst I feel the value is there (mainly from the lounge and gym) - there’s big improvements to be made for it to be as good as it can.

Fantastic experience: My trainer Kellie Whiting is fantastic. Her infectious optimism makes my gym sessions so much fun. Kellie has tailored the sessions to my level. Her time and understanding of my needs has helped me feel confident in my abilities in the gym. I am so happy and will be definitely booking her on a regular basis.

Fantastic experience: Thoroughly enjoyed dance fitness with Kellie Whiting today. My first attempt at this class and boy, did I move! Not necessarily in the same direction as everyone else but it didn’t seem to matter. It was really good fun.

Fantastic experience: Met Evie in reception today and was greeted with the most welcoming and caring attitude, made me immediately feel so grateful to be a member, wouldn’t ask for a better team.

Fantastic experience: I spend most of my weeks at David Lloyd as I use it for my co-working space as well as my gym to workout. The staff are great, the food is amazing. Evie and the rest of her team in the cafeteria always provide the best service!

Negative experience: As a PT of over 25 years and a Gym Management Consultant for the last 10, it is amazing that such a "premium" club can get it so wrong. The club is now nearing 9 years old and my goodness it looks like it. Everything is pretty much left to rack and ruin, the maintenance on the place is shocking. Yes, for such a big club there will be inevitable breakdowns, but they take an eternity to be fixed, many items just left broken, or we get the same breakdown of the same thing month in month out. Money is wasted on such things as a Blaze Studio when the gym was in desperate need of updating, repair, redecorating and an air con system fit for purpose. We have all had price increases this year which is fair enough but you have to see something for your money. The spa costs extra and it's a joke. Hot tub is often a cold tub. Hot showers is a lottery. The spa is not a relaxing place to go as screaming kids and the shouting aqua classes can be heard as clear as day. Also the app for booking classes and courts is not fit for purpose. If it wasn't for the tennis section and coaching staff I would have left a long time ago. The DL Management need to actually have a wander around the facility and actually take note of what's not working or what needs repair rather than constant staff appraisal / chats and Head Office box ticking. The majority of the staff are fantastic, it's management and the bean counters who need reassessment as they just walk around with their heads in the sand and if you complain or bring anything to their attention they just brush you off. DL Newbury is at full capacity so there really is no excuse not to reinvest into the facility. Holes in walls, kit falling apart, cold showers & hot tubs, ripped and torn seats, poor air con, an unrelaxing spa and more sure doesn't make this worth my £119 per month.

Positive experience: Unfortunately DL Newbury has deteriorated. Such a shame, particularly considering that the fees have increased significantly. Have been a member for several years, but the quality and upkeep of the club has gone downhill. It’s also too busy and the parking is a nightmare. Have decided it’s time to cancel my membership as it’s no longer worth it.

Negative experience: Bird poo in class outdoor space and air con packed up…. David Lloyd Newbury undergoing much needed updates. Unfortunately, the set up is not acceptable whilst we continue to pay higher prices for less. Following are examples and need to be rectified: 1. Yoga and Pilates mostly outside in battle box. What is plan B if rain? We are paying for these classes. This needs addressing asap for people who mostly go to these classes or you can reduce our monthly rates. Why is storage in the yoga studio Blaze is mostly empty or hire outdoor storage boxes. 2. In the battlebox the Astro turf is littered with pigeon poo!! Not only should this be cleaned for battle box classes but, when you are on a mat and on the floor, it’s dangerously unhygienic to put your face and mouth near pigeon poo which carries disease. This entire area- including the whole outdoor area around pool is disgusting. All of this needs to be cleaned asap or members will get ill. 3. Every time there is an upgrade or works -the aircon packs up. This is not acceptable. It’s muggy and close and smells. I don’t accept that parts are on the way. It’s always the answer. Perhaps a new system is needed. If DL continues to want its members to pay more each month- DL services need to be up to scratch to justify this. It’s ok to discount your members should you fall short. Much like we get black marks, DL needs to have respect for members and this is all neither respectful or acceptable. Needs sorting!

Fantastic experience: Joined David Lloyd Newbury today, met with Kalem for a tour, he showed us round and gave us a very good insight to what the gym offers. He was very professional and explained how the club could work for us. We are expecting a child June and the club offers us a brilliant family experience. Fantastic experience: I am an individual that loves group exercise. David Lloyd Newbury provides a great selection of classes both in-person and instructor led. Whilst the virtual classes are convenient, you can't beat having someone motivate you and bring fun to the class. Newbury DL has such an excellent, and engaging group of instructors. Special mentions to Rich George, Kellie Whiting, George Sellwood, Tamsin Hirst, Chloe Elliot, Choe Phillips, and Ebony Pitt - they are the BEST!
