I have been a personal trainer, strength coach and injury therapist for 12 years. I have founded AF with the passion to offer you the West Berkshire residents, a fantastic gym experience, totally different from run of the mill monotonous gyms.
AF has top of the range Watson kit, custom built to specifications. Each bit of kit is the best available in the fitness industry and vouched by gym training experts. Rather than using typical machines that promote a limited range of movement, our equipment’s are designed to maximize the range of your movement and thereby your end results. Every piece of equipment in AF are carefully handpicked after much deliberation by myself and my fantastic team of fitness coaches.
Of course we also boast of thoughtfully designed male and female change rooms, central air conditioning, great music, family friendly environment, therapy rooms and ample car parking spaces.

Fantastic experience: Been a member since June 2023. This gym is everything that a proper gym should be rather than a "fitness studio". The range of equipment is fantastic and well maintained. As a 63 year old who hadn't been to a gym for years I can state that the atmosphere is supportive and encouraging. I have had Chris (owner) as a PT, and I'm in the best shape ever.

I have joined Advantage Fitness a month ago. I've never seen better gym equipment in any gym: leg machines, hammer chest and shoulder machines. Chris and staff has been very helpful and very polite from day one. What can I say. I've found the best gym.

Fantastic experience: When my well equipped gym suddenly closed I was concerned I'd struggle to find another gym which matched the equipment but more importantly the culture. Since joining Chris and the team I couldn't be happier or speak highly enough of the place. The equipment is unrivalled (and incredibly humbling), the staff are brilliant and welcoming and the culture they have built makes it a great place to train. Its undoubtedly the best place to make serious improvements. Having visited every other gym in the area, Advantage Fitness really does stand alone.

Hi C0xty, It’s a pity you didn’t visit us before leaving a review. I am certain had you trained here first, you would have written about us differently. I would like to offer you a warm welcome to visit us here and train for a day, as a good will gesture from me to you. Then you can experience the facility and all it has to offer. You will think differently, after training here. That aside, allow me to address your points for both your own benefit and for the benefit of others who are reading this conversation. 1. Membership: We are £52 a month on Direct Debit or £574 for the year in full. The Y.I.F option gives you roughly a month free in comparable costs saved. We have a very eclectic member-base. With a very even spread between male and female, which is quite rare for gyms. We also have a slightly more mature average member age. That is probably due to our focus on personal training and nutrition, which isn’t something your younger gym goer realised that they need, nor maybe can they afford. ————— 2. Membership limits: We operate a capped and limited membership. We are primarily a very large personal training studio, with a membership. The Personal training is separate to the membership. It isn’t mandatory, although it is very popular. We cap the membership so that it doesn’t impact on our coaching, or get too busy for the general member to have a brilliant training experience - If you want a rammed gym then yes, as you’ve said, budget and/or 24hr gyms are available ————— 3. Business: We are an independent business - and we are fully self funded. We are not some corporate powerhouse as you have inferred, nor are we greedy. As a SME business with an exclusive membership, we are priced according, to attract the type of member who is interested in a bespoke facility, with our team experience in training and nutrition. So while we are not quite £70 a month, the more than reasonable £52 membership cost covers the bills, new equipment and the high quality that we wish to maintain across the facility. We don’t go sunning it up in Barcelona…as much as at times we would love to, especially in this weather. We plug almost everything back into the club via new space and equipment, to stay at the top of our game, for the benefit of the members ————— 4. Gym equipment: On the subject of equipment - we have easily over 75 pieces of strength training equipment This means that we have equipment to the equivalent of around 2-3 gyms, combined. We are not a budget facility - whereas the 24 hour gyms most certainly are. That’s totally fine and they provide a service to the type of member who is looking for that cost cutting option If you more like to training using equipment that we have hand selected, from around the globe, including the USA, Italy, Germany and the UK, some of it even custom designed for us personally, then we have it all and more! If you want run of the mill, standard, carbon-copy-equipment, then for sure, there are other gyms around the local area, all of which pretty much offer that type of kit. We are by far the best gym for equipment in Berkshire and most likely, the entire south east of England ————— You are more than welcome to come and have a walk around the place with me - you can see what you would get for your £52 and see how much of a bargain it really is. Fantastic experience: I was new to the area and didn’t want to join one of the big chain gyms and I found AF online. Everyone at the gym is really friendly and helpful and it has some of the best equipment of any gym i’ve been to and much more of it too. The gym is always kept clean and the machines are well maintained, would definitely recommend to anyone.

Fantastic experience: I visited this gym on recommendation from a friend. It was a fantastic Gym and well worth the drive down. The equipment was all top quality, clean and well maintained. The variety was spot on, and colour coded into area and muscle group. I’ve not seen this done before and thought it was a nice touch. The atmosphere was great and promoted an environment that made me want to work harder and get the most out of my workout. The staff and members I met were all welcoming and friendly. I would 100% recommend this gym and I will absolutely be training in there again when I get the chance. If I lived local, this would without doubt be the gym I’d join.

Fantastic experience: there is some state of the art machinery on site which really does help give you the best impact, everything is covered with numerous different top quality machines, as well as old school dumbells and barbells. Friendly atmosphere adequate parking and most importantly no attitude. Reccomended if your serious about weight training and want the very best equipment available.

People of all ages and goals and all the bodybuilding kit you need if that’s your thing! Quiet enough to get in and get your head down but busy enough that there’s a nice atmosphere too. Staff were really friendly and couldn’t have been anymore welcoming which ties in with the atmosphere of the gym again amazing vibe. Fantastic experience: 2 years of membership for me already. I’ve been in almost every gym in Berkshire. This one is real proper bodybuilding gym not like most fitness clubs around. You can feel great atmosphere inside. Some members compete actively in shows. Loads of great equipment from different brands, some of older machines „little gems” (if you know you know:) working better than any other new fancy, gimmick machines haha Very helpful staff and family atmosphere, pleasure to work out there. Solid knowledgeable people so you can ask always for some information or tips to exercises. They offer day and 5day passes if you want to try. Plenty space for parking
Fantastic experience: Great equipment, friendly environment, and welcoming staff. Went in for the first time a few weeks ago and was straight away recognised as a new face by the owner. He went on to ask how my training has been going as well as what results I was looking for before offering any help should I want it. The atmosphere is great and with more equipment than you could want it is easy to focus and smash out a routine. I have enjoyed going back since. Highly recommend.
Fantastic experience: well, whether you train for fun or for competitions etc, that’s your gym! amazing seeing such a gem in a small town! if you’re into bodybuilding this gym offers spot on music for them PRs and amazing equipment! but also if just train for the fun of it, it’s an incredibly nice environment to be in! Fantastic experience: Probably one of the best gym i even been in my life, 8 years of training, 3 years competing and this gym has offered me every day the best equipment ever, from hammer strength to nautilus (who knows knows what i’m talking about!). if you want to take your training to next level this gym is the best that you could even find!

Fantastic experience: By far the best gym in Thatcham. This is the place to train whatever your aims, be it bodybuilding, general weight training or if you are an athlete looking for that extra edge. The gym is equipped with everything you could possibly need for elite Olympic weightlifting (2 fantastic platforms, loads of bumper plates, plenty of decent 20k bars and a woman’s 15K bar). For powerlifters there is plenty of weights and 2 decent squat cages. Loads of really good machines and other kit and plenty of space. The staff are fantastic and are incredibly knowledgeable. If you want advice or some personal assessments and coaching this is the place to go.

Fantastic experience: What a great gym! Chris, Sarah, Ben and all the team at Advantage Fitness were welcoming when I returned to gym fitness after almost 30 years. They continue to be supportive and full of encouragement. The knowledge and experience they pass on to their members and clients is outstanding - it has certainly been life changing for me. I've reduced weight with Chris's diets; gained a figure I'd long forgotten I ever had! My energy levels have improved; my mental attitude and outlook is more positive and I've reduced my medication. A gym I would very much recommend!

Fantastic experience: I've been training at Advantage Fitness since November 2017. I've been through a body transformation myself under the guidance of Joe and owner Chris and it has changed my life drastically for the better. Mentally stronger let alone physically fitter. The atmosphere is superb within the gym between the staff and the members and the range of Watson and Cybex gym equipment is the best I've ever used. Best gym around, you have to try If in the Berkshire area!!!

Positive experience: One of the BEST gyms I've ever trained at, friendly and helpful staff, great machines and a nice atmosphere with the exception of the highly colourful machines making things slightly disorientating (especially after a tiring workout) and slightly too loud music, other than that I would highly recommend visiting.
