The Old Schoolhouse

Housed in a beautifully converted 19th-century primary school in Abington, The Old Schoolhouse is more than just a gym—it is a vibrant community hub dedicated to health, wellness, and local connection. Managed by the Abington Community Development Group, this versatile facility offers a supportive environment where residents can achieve their fitness goals while strengthening the bonds of the South Lanarkshire community.

At the heart of the building is a fully equipped gym featuring top-of-the-range cardio machines, including treadmills, cross-trainers, and spin bikes, as well as comprehensive free weights and dual-purpose fixed weight stations for strength training. The facility is complemented by a bright, air-conditioned fitness studio equipped with kettlebells, resistance bands, and boxing bags, designed specifically for group sessions. Here, members can join a variety of engaging classes such as Aerotone, Gentle Yoga, Sit Fit for low-impact strength, and Black Out, a dynamic cardio boxing workout. For those seeking personalized guidance, qualified instructors offer 'gym buddy' coaching sessions to help create tailored workout plans for all ability levels.

Beating fitness, The Old Schoolhouse serves as a central resource for the wider village, offering essential external services including a 24/7 InPost locker, clothing and bra recycling bins, and free period products provided by the South Lanarkshire Council. The community also benefits from monthly employability support sessions and a partnership with Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library, ensuring free books for children aged 0-5. For events and business needs, the venue provides hireable spaces ranging from a modern conference room and flexible community room to an enchanting outdoor garden retreat, making it a premier location for private events, workshops, and corporate meetings in the Biggar area.
