Fantastic experience: I've been training with Martin for just over a year at Pleasance, and I can't recommend him enough. He's a very friendly and approachable coach who takes the time to create a personalised training plan tailored to your goals, and answer many fitness questions regardless how simple they are. Martin has a great way of pushing you at a pace that’s challenging but never overwhelming, making each session both effective and enjoyable, such that I always look forward to the session. As someone who can feel shy or uncomfortable in typical gym environments, I really appreciate the private space for the session. It’s perfect for anyone who never trained before. The pricing is also very student-friendly, which makes it even more accessible. I’d especially recommend Martin to fellow students in Edinburgh who want a motivating, understanding trainer and a comfortable place to train.
Fantastic experience: Having played rugby for years I was no stranger to lifting weights and keeping fit, and I enjoyed the discipline and effort that went into it all. I was also consistently surrounded by coaches in a likeminded environment. However, after a few years out the game, several operations and general wear and tear (age!) catching up with me I had found that I was far from the level of fitness and strength that I desired and have recently struggled to return to the routines that I used to experience whilst playing. I eventually considered seeking a coach for some proper programming and after asking around Martin came highly recommended. Having known him for years as an opponent in rugby it seemed a safe place to start. I am very glad that I dropped him a text! Martin is approachable, patient and refreshingly blunt. I was initially apprehensive turning to a coach for help having been pretty capable training by myself in the past so I thought I might find the whole thing a bit disparaging but I really appreciated the approach he took with me. He set a very realistic yet high bar for my training. He was flexible with exercise selection to adjust to available equipment, answered questions promptly, and never passed judgment when I queried anything. Most importantly for me he was sympathetic to my limitations given previous injuries so was able to support and challenge my needs accordingly; as such I’ve not felt this strong and motivated to lift weights in years! I would highly recommend Martin to anyone who might find themselves in a similar position to myself as I find it very reassuring to trust my programming to someone who is so clearly passionate and personally experienced in the field of strength and fitness.

He gives great feedback during the sessions and makes sure you're learning the technique to be safe and keep training. Fantastic experience: I had weekly sessions with Martin while I was in Edinburgh over August - my first experience with personal training and also anything weights outside of group classes. It was such a positive experience, making the most of the available time, and I’ll be off home motivated (and prepared) to keep up training, thank you Martin! After the first day, Martin gave me a tailored programme to continue, and then took me through all the elements over the rest of our sessions. Fantastic experience: My husband and I have been going to PT with Martin, twice a week for almost 18 months. I wanted to do some strength work and learn to lift heavy weights and Martin has definitely made that happen. The PT sessions are in a private area (so there’s no waiting for equipment like in regular gyms). Martin is very clear when showing us how to do each and every exercise and ensures our technique is correct. My husband and I are continually seeing results from our ongoing training with Martin, in both the heavier weights we are lifting and how we look and feel. The only complaint my husband has is that Martin won’t include Taylor Swift in his playlist :)

Fantastic experience: Martin is a beyond-exceptional personal trainer for me. I have been training with Martin for around half a year for muscle gaining, and my progress so far has been amazing. I used to be a quite skinny guy and I had never been able to get any visible and quantifiable outcome when I was training by myself (or with terrible PTs) back then, but after starting the PT journey with Martin everything has changed - I’m able to see significant growth and progress in both physical strength and muscle mass day by day. Strength training also boosts my confidence in life and I’ve never felt better. It’s unbelievable to me because it has only been a few months with Martin and I’m already a completely different person inside and out. Martin is extremely professional - he knows everything about weight training, and he always tailor-designs the best programs for me. Fantastic experience: I have been training with Martin for about 10 months - after several poor experiences with PTs I was extremely impressed with Martin's sporting background and experience, his knowledge and no BS approach to training clients. Tailors your programme specifically to your goals but more importantly to fit with your lifestyle - which was an even bigger benefit for someone like me with an unpredictable work pattern. His programmes are clear and effective, he is flexible and responsive to changes in schedule, and is always very helpful and responsive to queries outside of the sessions. He operates from a specific PT area within the University of Edinburgh Pleasance Sports Complex - fantastic facilities and, unlike generic Gyms, you never have to worry about the space being too busy. Fantastic experience: I would say I really made great progress training with Martin. I had no gym experience before at all, and after just 10 sessions of training I can manage to do gym workout confidently by myself. Apart from the regular training sessions (once a week for 10weeks for me), I was also given a list of suggested exercise which I could do in my own time. Very good experience.
Fantastic experience: Great training with Martin. My goal was to build up my strength for surgery, he was understanding and adaptive to any limitations and made sure sessions were balanced between hard work and fun. Post surgery was definitely better because of the program Martin put me through. I will definitely be booking sessions to get back to full strength and fitness once I am recovered

Fantastic experience: Martin has been an absolute powerhouse of a trainer during my time studying abroad in Edinburgh. We trained three times a week for an hour, and the results have been remarkable. My training program was personalized specifically for a football kicker, and I'm now so much more explosive and stronger than I was three months ago when I first started training with him. I couldn't recommend Martin more highly to anyone looking to benefit from strength and conditioning training.
Fantastic experience: Trained with Martin for a little under six months and can wholeheartedly recommend! He'll guide you through a personalised workout routine week by week (I started off with three sessions a week, two of those with Martin - now four a week) and will advise you on keeping a good diet to help shave off unneeded weight. Martin is great at making sure you know what you're doing at the gym - in both individual exercises and overall session structure - and to ensure your form is good so you get the most out of it and keep yourself injury free. With Martin's guidance and encouragement I've been able to make the lifestyle change of going to the gym a reality and most importantly keeping it regular and sustainable.

Fantastic experience: I trained with Martin for a total of 20 sessions. Throughout he was proffesional and always took the time to explain how a particular exercise was supposed to go (even if I had asked the same about ten times prior :D). When I had a small injury we were able to work around that with no problem and the whole experience was positive.

Fantastic experience: I had never been to a gym prior let alone weight lifting. Martin guided me every step of the way from technique to diet in order for me to work towards my fitness goals. I remember when I first started about a year ago I was having trouble squatting with just the bar. Now I consistently squat 60+ kg and on better days that figure rises to 70 (keeping in mind I didn't train during all the breaks in between eg. lock down, summer holiday etc.). I currently feel much more confident in a gym setting and would highly recommend Martin as a trainer for anyone who is just trying to start out but hasn't quite figured out how to do so yet.

Fantastic experience: I trained with Martin for about two and a half months over the summer before moving out of Edinburgh and have seen amazing transformations in my physique and strength. I had no prior experience with strength training and had never been in a gym before. Martin's programme helped me build confidence and techniques for weight training and I was able to see a massive improvement in my stamina when it comes to other exercises and physical activities I do. I had been suffering from a minor wrist injury for a couple of months which prevented me from doing some sports. Martin was able to work around the injury with me and thanks to him I was able to strengthen my arms which helped reduce my wrist pain. I was able to get back to pole dancing stronger than before. As a PT, Martin has solid background in sports science and many years of professional experience working with clients at different fitness levels with different needs. He is very helpful and accommodating, always ready to answer any questions I have and training with him has been fun. I strongly recommend getting in touch with him whether you are looking to get into strength training or improve your athletic performance.
Fantastic experience: Mc fitness I’d highly recommend working with Martin if you have fitness or strength goals you’re determined to achieve. I’ve been seeing Martin for just over three months now and I’ve come much further in less time than I would ever have expected! We focussed on a specific target and he’s tailored a program for me in addition to one-to-one weekly sessions. As a result I’m well on my way. Martin is always in communication for any questions I have and shares sound advice based on the progress and results I want to see. He operates from the University of Edinburgh Pleasance Sports Complex & Gym which IMO is one of the largest and best equipped Gyms in the city.

Fantastic experience: I trained with Martin on a 8 week programme. I had just started doing weight training and wanted to grow my confidence and knowledge in order to get better results. Martin was very supportive and always on hand for feedback or advice. My confidence in the gym has grown massively as well as my strength. Fantastic experience: I started working with Martin in the middle of the summer in 2021. I was very much out of shape and very anxious at the idea of returning to the gym post covid and also just getting back into training regularly after so long of not doing it. Martin's approach has been fantastic. He didn't throw me in to the deep end too quickly and the first few sessions were very much about what I was capable of doing and not overdoing things. The programme really hits everything and after a few months I'm really seeing the physical benefits of being back training and great gains in strength compared to day 1 of starting. His programmes are clear and effective, he is flexible and responsive to changes in schedule, and as a result of his strong motivation I have already achieved far beyond my expectations and I have no desire to stop seeing the strength and muscle gains stop now!
Fantastic experience: After training at the gym for several years I came to Martin with the goal to improve and perfect my form and strength across a number of exercises. In just a short amount of time, Martin was able to provide exactly what I needed and gave numerous tips on how to lift effectively and efficiently. Fantastic experience: Martin is a great personal trainer and I highly recommend him. I have never had a personal trainer before so didn't know what to expect. I did his 8 week programme where he designed an exercise programme for me and also gave me regular advice on my diet. He went through each exercise ensuring that my technique was solid. Each week he would check my progress and give me helpful feedback and tips. He was always available via text/phone if I had any questions. I am seeing great results with my body looking more muscular and defined in a nice healthy way, and my posture and gait have improved too. I look forward to doing another 8 week programme with him in the near future.
Fantastic experience: I worked with Martin during my first semester in Edinburgh. He helped me achieve my aims of rehab after Acl reconstruction surgery as well as weight loss. I lost 6 kilos in a month. And significantly improved the strength of my upper and lower body. I would suggest his program to every international student who is skeptical of foreign trainers because of language barrier as he is really patient with you and explains the pros and cons of each exercise in detail.
Fantastic experience: After 7+ years of tendonitis and ITB injury, having exhausted many rehab solutions (physio, pilates) without positive results I had given up and approached Martin whilst feeling particularly dispirited and unmotivated, he has helped me to completely turn that around. Prior to seeking Martin's help my injuries had made me give up hill walking, running and even my beloved cycling. Now, his strength training guidance has me back up the hills and cycling long distances again. I feel like I have my life back! Like I'm in my twenties again, but even better and stronger than I ever was before! Highly recommend.
Fantastic experience: During the lockdown (I think like many working from home) I piled on weight and generally just lost any fitness I had before it. Started training with Martin after the first lockdown and immediately really enjoyed it. Having very little experience of weight-lifting, it was really good to not only train but get taught how to lift safely and effectively. Not only that but training with Martin has encouraged me to eat better and work out by myself as well which I was always nervous too before we started. Fantastic experience: I trained with Martin for just under 1 year and would highly recommend him if looking for a PT that will push you to achieve your best in every workout. Sessions were well structured and diverse so you could easily see and feel the progress made week on week. Fantastic experience: I started weight/strength training with Martin a year ago. He tailors a programme specific to you which will help you to achieve your goals and is sustainable to fit in with your lifestyle. This is switched up every couple of months, keeping things fresh and ensuring you are progressing and hitting your goals and targets! Since starting training with Martin I feel much stronger and have gained muscle which are my main goals I wish to get out of PT sessions. Martin is good at what he does and is a lovely down to earth guy. He makes you feel comfortable throughout sessions and always makes sure you understand what you are doing. He has also always been helpful outwith sessions if I've ever had any questions regarding gym programme etc. Weight training is also a great stress outlet, something which I think we would all benefit from with the way life has been the past year or so/is at the minute! Once you begin to see/feel the benefits from training both physically and mentally this will spur you on and motivate you to keep going! Martin's strength is putting together a personalised programme that's right for the stage that you are at. I was coming to lifting weights as a beginner and the programme Martin put together gave me great strength gains after just a couple of months. Fantastic experience: Working with Martin has made a huge difference to my levels of strength and flexibility. Starting from a low base, he has enabled me, by carefully calibrated degrees, to achieve a good level of fitness; and, almost to my surprise, I now really enjoy my regular work-outs in the gym. He has an eye for movement like that of a physio, and carefully tailors an exercise programme to your needs as you build up strength. He is very knowledgeable but doesn't flaunt that knowledge at all and is very easy to work with.

He gave me a ring and following our conversation had written me a new gym programme to follow. The different ideas and accessory lifts he added really helped bring on some of my weaker points. Fantastic experience: I trained with Martin for over a year while I was Edinburgh University. Martin was extremely knowledgeable and professional. He has a lot of experience and practices what he preaches, so being around him alone is motivation in itself. He mixed it up (HIIT cardio, weights, circuit training, etc.) and kept it challenging so I didn't get bored and my body didn't adapt/get used to the training.
