Hucknall Leisure Centre: Opinions
Positive experience: Our children do their swimming lessons here and they are great however the changing rooms could really do with a deep clean or revamp as they are absolutely filthy. It also smells of urine.
Thank you for your feedback, Charlotte. We're pleased to hear that your children are enjoying their swimming lessons. We appreciate your comments regarding the changing rooms and take them seriously. Please feel free to reach out to us at www.everyoneactive.com/enquiries if you would like to discuss this further. Hucknall Leisure Centre
Negative experience: Terrible website. 1 hour of open swimming on a school holiday week day. Tried calling 3 times to confirm if I needed to do anything, to be hung up on 3 times whilst on hold. Walked half an hour there with 2 children to be told by some sour faced “assistant” who could not give a toss about helping me, that I you need to book in and apparently I could have called up . Awful. Awful site, awful service and expensive. This is why pure gym will put you out of business, I hope.
Thank you for sharing your feedback. I'm sorry to hear about your experience with our website and the difficulty you faced in reaching us by phone. It must have been frustrating to arrive and not receive the assistance you needed. Fantastic experience: We just had a party for our son on the water obstacle course! Was absolutely incredible, the kids had so much fun and the party room was amazing , Every single staff member we came across were friendly and helpful , nothing was to much hassle , special shout out to the reception staff, 5 service
Thank you so much, Leigh, for your wonderful review. We're thrilled to hear that your son's party on the water obstacle course was such a hit and that the kids had a fantastic time. It's great to know that our party room and staff, especially the reception team, contributed to your positive experience. We truly appreciate your kind words and look forward to welcoming you back to Hucknall Leisure Centre.
Negative experience: on there website it states a sauna. unfortunately it does not have this facility.
Fantastic experience: Fantastic. Come here weekly
Fantastic experience: Had our daughter’s birthday party here on Saturday and Olivia was fabulous! Very attentive and friendly, really went the extra mile.
Fantastic experience: Great late night swim
Fantastic experience: Great gym really friendly staff just wish it was 24/7 ✌
Fantastic experience: Excellent facilities, staff are great.. very welcoming and friendly. A special mention to kirsty very helpful.. thank you
Fantastic experience: Absolutely brilliant. Took our youngest swimming there and she loved it. Recently held the Central Notts swimming gala there and the service was fantastic, staff were brilliant and really helpful.
Fantastic experience: A clean and well-maintained gym with many facilities that a modern leisure place should have, and nice staff.
Negative experience: This is disappointing I came in the app didn’t work for times so I had no clue came in and we had to send a friend home because she wouldn’t be allowed in when we had an over 18 adult but it’s apparently not allowed because she isn’t a guardian and what if you had 3 kids and you can’t go with them the rule needs to change with the numbers and over 18s can take people because legally they are an adult .
Negative experience: My daughter wanted to go to the gym, she was going to be supervised by an 18year old but was refused entry despite a parent taking her 2 friends also. This was at one of the quietest times of the day. I thought we were trying to promote youngsters getting fit but they are continually refused or have the rules changed. These are your customers of the future! The cleaning of the changing rooms is also an issue.
Fantastic experience: Fantastic staff, so friendly. The gym is always clean, lovely atmosphere. I have to leave the gym because I’m moving. Thank you guys. Your doing a second to none job. Well done ❤️
Fantastic experience: Great leisure centre. I only use the gym. It's got a great range of equipment that's always clean and working. Staff are friendly and helpful. Highly recommended.
Positive experience: Decent gym and pool, love the dedicated leg room for strength
Fantastic experience: Great Gym and trainers
Fantastic experience: Amazing swimming pool, gym and indoor gaming areas. Sparkling clean with good lighting
Positive experience: Good leisure center but they do need need to work on the cleanliness of the toilets
Fantastic experience: Very clean centre, friendly , helpful staff. Easy to book gym and classes using the app
Positive experience: Really enjoy going to Hucnalk leisure centre. Plenty of choice of machines and equipment. Place is very friendly, staff are helpful. Happy going five times a week.
Fantastic experience: Great facility, friendly helpful staff
Fantastic experience: Very good and well run gym.
Fantastic experience: Friendly staff and people great place to do my gym work bonus of cafeteria area.
Positive experience: Great. Good gym
Fantastic experience: I love Hucknall Leisure Centre, there's something for everyone. I like the gym. There's plenty of equipment and it's always clean and working. The staff are always available to help. The swimming pool is great although I wish there were more sessions for the over 50s. Occasionally I feel the lane swims have too many people in them. The changing rooms are well equipped with lockers, showers and hair dryers. I wish there was a bathing costume spinner though. Monthly cost for membership is very reasonable.
Negative experience: After having a baby my friend told me the leisure centre do a baby sensory swim a couple of times a week. Since going I’ve paid £5.30 for adult & on the app under 3s are free. The staff have a couple of times mentioned that I need to pay for the baby in future but I couldn’t understand why it was free on the app. I had a guy come out and tell me it’s a mistake and they’ve fed it back to head office and they’re waiting for it to be updated, so it’ll be £2.80 for the baby and £5.30 for me £8.10 in total going forward. I just don’t understand why they charge separately for babies it should be a one off fee. I told him this will put new mums off that are on maternity leave. If you want to swim every week it’s too expensive. We’ve been most weeks and I told him I probably won’t be coming & paying £8.10. There’s not many people in the pool as it is! I go to a baby sensory class for £7.80 and there’s actually a teacher, way worth the money!
Fantastic experience: Great looking pools and Gym! Really nice tour from one of the staff, very friendly. Car park is free for 2 hours, remember to use the machine to get the free parking ticket!
Fantastic experience: The gym is brilliant, good equipment, very clean and big shout out to Charley, best personal trainer out there
Fantastic experience: Great facilities, good disabled sessions and nice staff. Joe is great!
Negative experience: Not very informative about adult swimming times. Only interested in members not the public who just want to swim.
Negative experience: Not good. So I'm on a concession discount. I joined for my health and within 1 month they tried to take a total of 90 pounds out my account and said you pay your last month first plus an admin fee, then have to pay another full month plus the remainder. I don't have 90 pounds for them to take in a month! Scammers
Positive experience: The Employees are not very competent and often like to chat and do nothing at a time when there's a lot of dust all around. Cooking shows are often shown on TV in front of the treadmills. This looks very strange at a time when people are trying to lose weight, they are forced to look at McDonald's ads and cooking shows
Negative experience: In the last month I've had someone walk into the bar mid bench, walk across the Olympic platform MID-LIFT, and had someone strip one side of a barbell in a squat rack creating a pendulum/guillotine that nearly decapitated some poor bloke in the adjacent rack. Not a gym for serious lifters...
Fantastic experience: Very good
Fantastic experience: It was very friendly n nice experience and clean would go again
Fantastic experience: Clean friendly atmosphere, a great place to meet friends and staying fit.
Negative experience: Do not the shared swimming changing rooms and the toilets are always dirty
Fantastic experience: Absolutely wonderful swim, lovely helpful friendly staff.
Fantastic experience: Friendly staff, great facilities, recently renovated.
Fantastic experience: Decent place
Fantastic experience: Always great place to be.
Fantastic experience: Absolutely love the place
Fantastic experience: Clean place and helpful staff
Fantastic experience: Very good
Positive experience: Only issue i have is never being able to get a swim session
Fantastic experience: Fabulous staff very proffessional and highly recommended place
Fantastic experience: good range of classes
Fantastic experience: New Gym, good equipments, great staff. Well worth it
Fantastic experience: Had a nice relaxing swim. Everything good here. Even with building work going on there are no problems.
Fantastic experience: Love this gym. Great choice of fitness classes offered, large gym area with tons of exercise machines. The online booking system is great and easy to use.
Fantastic experience: Great leisure centre. Friendly welcoming staff easily accessible. Great value for money for swimming lessons
Positive experience: Car park size is terrible, far to small for the amount of members they keep taking on. Gym could be good, but they have far too many members, theres plenty of jogging machines steppers and bikes although in the evenings these can get very full, but if you want to use any of the weight machines theres only one of each and you have to compete with the army of teenage boys and young half dressed girls hanging around them or not doing much on them. Equipment isnt kept very clean and is relient on customers to clean themselves which isnt done by many., theres times when ive been and theres no wipes to clean with either. Trainers are difficult to find as they dont wear visiable tops and in the past ive had to go to the reception to find anyone. The gym is so packed in the evenings that i often give up and just come back home, its become expensive for how much use i can actually get out of it. Im seriously thinking of packing it in.
Negative experience: Awful experience including disabled son being discriminated against. Rules made up and changed from session to session. Staff need training on inclusivity and customer service.
Negative experience: If I could give this a zero star I would, we are soo angry with Hucknall leisure centre, my boy went there with his school as a treat, when he got to the pool side he was told he couldn't go into the pool because his shorts was longer than they liked. My boy is artistic and has many other conditions. So he was told he would have to watch all his class friends having a great time, what's this world coming to,the reason they said was he could drowd. Even tho they have life guards, teachers. We used to have to swim in our pj's to get a certificate. Well I won't be taking my children or letting school take him there anymore, he was so upset and he couldn't carm down all night, people need to be aware how much this affects there's children. I think they are unprofessional and need training on disabilitys
Positive experience: Have yet to go to the leisure centre as it seems to be under construction, but the play area around it is first class and my youngest loves it .
Fantastic experience: This is my happy place...my safe place. Its not just about exercising and keeping fit in the amazing gym for someone who lives alone and is of mature years its about support friendship and caring for each other. They have an amazing team of staff who have had my back all through the difficult times and have been there for me, if only for a chat and a hug, believe me it makes the world of difference. It is so good for your mental health too. It is a pleasure to be a member here . The staff work hard and have kept us safe all through the pandemic and everywhere is kept clean. Thank you all so much.
Negative experience: If you have an autistic child then avoid this place for swimming because they are so unprofessional and rude and they will come out with any excuse just to make you feel unwelcome and make you feel discriminated. They need proper training with the swimming lessons and on communication. Some jobs are not for everyone so why take it if you can't do it !!!
Positive experience: Nice place to be, clean and tidy. Only thing I don’t like is the reception. If you have any issues with your bookings they will never pick up a phone and they’re not very kind. Apart from them I’m happy with this place.
Fantastic experience: The activity camps in the summer holiday, lots of activities to keep them entertained, such as swimming, badminton. My son has extremely enjoyed it, will definitely be booking again for next school holidays.
Positive experience: Everything is good but in winter time really freezing in all courts not putting the heating on ?????
Fantastic experience: Excellent facilities and activities
Fantastic experience: Lovely badminton courts.
Positive experience: It's developments are certainly an improvement
Negative experience: Good leisure but probably the worlds worst customer service ever.
Fantastic experience: Actually go to the WW meeting there. The coach is brilliant
Positive experience: Looking better after the mini refurb, pool still needs some work
Fantastic experience: Love the classes, the new gym equipment is brilliant and the new cardio machines are really good
Positive experience: Playing walking cricket good big area to play in always clean and tidy staff great
Fantastic experience: Warm pool, great for a leisurely swim but not great for full on training! Gym has been refurbished and is full of everything you will need, new studios too! Tremendous value!
Fantastic experience: I have just had the best experience at Hucknall Leisure Centre's new gym. I was a member before Covid. How fantastic the facilities are now. Brilliant new fitness equipment and excellent customer service. I'm soooking forward to my getting fit activities now. Highly recommend
Fantastic experience: Great place! Amazing staff! Can’t thank them enough for helping my stroke survivor husband use the shower. It means the world to us both. He can’t get upstairs at home yet but coming here helps him to participate in normal things and it helps him do more physio. I really appreciate what Hucknall leisure centre is doing for us . Thankyou ❤️
Positive experience: I go here for swimming, like the pool, like booking in for lane swimming you know it's not going to be overcrowded and everyone will be swimming. Don't like the new revamped changing rooms - unisex is not for me, bring back male/female ones. It is all cubicle but some are so tiny they don't have a bench so bags, coats, towels have to go on the wet floor.
Negative experience: This review is based on the swimming provision and gymnastics lessons only as I haven’t used any of the other facilities. My child started swimming lessons here and took part for over six months, I stayed to watch every lesson and what I saw was less than inspiring. The pool is small to begin with, and it is sectioned off in to tiny areas to separate children of different abilities. The instructors are of hugely varied competence, some are fantastic and engage the children well. Others are at best disintegration and purely go through the motions without watching the children. If they aren’t observing the children, how can they possibly give meaningful feedback and coach the improvement. Progression to the higher swimming levels seems to be arbitrary and does not follow the competencies laid out by Swim England. Swim England badges and certificates are available but they are rarely issued when the kids meet the requirements. I only witnessed them being awarded by one particular instructor. The others either didn’t know they exist, didn’t know the stages, or just didn’t care. I cancelled the lessons and started to teach my child to swim myself. Within a couple of weeks I have achieved more than Hucknall leisure centre had done in six months. The entry system is daft and unnecessary, I experienced several problems with it. I had to wait until a staff members was available to let us in. The gymnastics lessons are even worse. Although parents aren’t allowed to watch the lessons my child often told me that they spent most of a session sitting down on the mats not doing anything, then the rest practising stretching. After several months of lessons my child had only practised a forward roll and stretching. I have since enrolled my child in lessons with a gymnastics club in Hucknall she is enjoying the lessons now and is progressing well. In short, don’t waste your money, look around for alternatives and your children will reap the benefits.
Positive experience: I mostly use the gym but have started using squash courts now. Gym can get busy, so if you have a set routine to follow you may have to choose the times you go carefully. Good variety of machines available on both cardio and weights. Squash courts, again, get booked very quickly but can book a week in advance easily using the phone App.
Positive experience: I can only talk of my experiences after they refurbished the gym. The equipment is of high quality and there are plenty of machines for everyone to use. It can get quite busy from 5pm till about 730pm but usually isn't too bad. Overall I quite enjoy going to this gym. It's not full of flogs like some gyms either.
Positive experience: Came here for a swimming gala. I thought the place was woefully 'under signed'; which way to the changing rooms? Where was the spectator area? Luckily, staff were helpful in this regard. I also found the ladies toilets inadequate too. Three stalls, the toilet cistern didn't fill quickly so I couldn't flush without waiting an eternity. Only one soap dispenser and one hand dryer too, which meant a merry dance and wait around others. It just seemed low on spec. And don't get me started on the spectator seating. My advice? Take a cushion.
Negative experience: We have been swimming with the grandchildren every friday and gave been very happy with them. Unfortunately they decided that they weren't happy with a mixed ability class and cancelled it immediately! When told that everyone had paid up front for the next month they said we could do that and then go. Nothing sorted and the new manager has not helpful in any way. The teacher has already said she is happy to continue.
Positive experience: The website lies a bit as in two visits I have not seen staff cleaning equipment. Patrons are asked to clean down equipment after use which is fine but don't suggest otherwise. Update 15th February 2022. Actually seen a cleaner and a member of staff cleaning equipment so that is a start. However, weight area floor I don't think has been cleaned or disinfected since the new gym opened.
Fantastic experience: Great fitness centre, well equipped gym. Just waiting on the changing rooms to be finished and it's back to being 100% (:
Fantastic experience: Swimming lessons are great here. I fully recommend Hucknall Leisure Centre.
Fantastic experience: My grandson is having swimming lessons here he is coming on so quickly a joy to watch the changing rooms have yet to be finished so that's a bit awkward but all the staff are really friendly and helpful
Fantastic experience: Great place to workout, and really nice staff there.
Fantastic experience: It's nice and safe for my dog to have a run round.
Fantastic experience: Great squash courts and all the staff are so friendly and welcoming.
Positive experience: Had to share the hall with gym equipment and users, which was often noisy, but we were just grateful to be able to play badminton again, even on the court hampered by the basketball net and board! Covid arrangements were adequate but didn't see anyone actually using the sprays provided....
Negative experience: Hucknall leisure centre/Everyone active has a disgusting business practice it forces you to pay for 2 months in advance without a trial even for childs swim lessons! My child could not get on with the lessons and wouldnt enter the pool and doesnt want to go back. I asked to cancel and ask about a refund but i was completely refused by the pool manager who was only trying to fob me off with different lessons available and said that according to the "contract" she didnt have to give us anything back and she would not even entertain the idea of a partial refund. If you have a child especially home ed and are unsure about whether to start lessons here dont bother theres only 1 outdated dinghy pool that gets segmented into small areas and the teacher we had wouldnt even attempt to help get my child into the pool other than holding her arms up for 1 second then wandering off. Overall extremely dissapointed and will never use any branch of everyone active ever again, shady business practices and garbage facilities alongside useless staff. If i could give negative stars i would stay clear at all costs.
Positive experience: Always enjoy the swimming but no showers (think it's because of revamp)
Fantastic experience: Staff are fantastic in every area,
Fantastic experience: Glad it's back open, staff are really keeping a clean safe environment.
Negative experience: Went swimming today with my famliy definitely wont be coming to hucknall swimming again rather travel to sutton in ashfield much clean pool and changing rooms also friendly staff and to top it off the pool was cold
Positive experience: It's a fun place to take your kids, has an fun park and swimming pool and lessons also, with vending machines and you can also book parties here! But currently because of quarantine, I haven't been able to go as often.
Fantastic experience: has lots of gym
Fantastic experience: A great pool
Negative experience: Too small to get a good swim, too crowded, main priority seems to be kids
Negative experience: Bad reception, paid for gym and personal trainer, who I never heard from and poor people skills
Fantastic experience: Great facilities , convenient parking outdoor kids play area / park .
Fantastic experience: Good place, good staff and facilities, but parking is an issues most items as locals park here to get to high street I guess, there is a lot of blue badge spaces vacant but normally used by all.
Positive experience: Got much better in recent years in terms of cleanliness ect. Staff are nice. OK gym facilities. Pool always very hot though
Positive experience: Reasonable and affordable
