Bannatyne Health Club

Fantastic experience: One of the best gyms in Norwich. The facilities they provide with the cost out performs most gyms in Norwich. Sauna, steam, swimming pool, classes functional area. The Fitness manager Vic. Welcomed me to the Gym, I was impressed with the level of professionalism and politeness.

Fantastic experience: I’d definitely recommend Bannatyne Norwich West gym. They have plenty of weights and machines, so there’s always something available no matter what you’re training. There’s also a great variety of free gym classes included in your membership, which is a huge bonus. If you have a Blue Light card, you also get a discount, which is really helpful. The facilities are great too, with a swimming pool, steam room, and a separate sauna room in both changing rooms, which is perfect for relaxing after a workout. A special mention to Vicky, who is an amazing personal trainer. Since having Vicky as my personal trainer, I’ve really noticed my body changing and a big improvement in my overall health and fitness. She’s supportive, motivating, and really knows how to push you in the right way. I’d 100% recommend joining Bannatyne, and if you want extra support or guidance, I’d definitely recommend getting a personal trainer – especially Vicky!

Fantastic experience: I’ve seen consistent progress in strength and endurance since starting here. Vicky helped tailor and also pushes you when having a PT. A plan that fits my schedule and goals, and I’ve noticed tangible results faster than I expected. The gym feels like a community that keeps you accountable without feeling pushy Bannatynes west Norwich ticks all the boxes quality facilities, diverse offerings, and standout personal training that actually gets results. If you want a gym where you can train effectively, stay motivated, and enjoy the process, this is the place to go! Big shoutout to Vicky!

Negative experience: Insane prices for the poor quality, price was put up and for what reason if nothing changes? Machines out of order often, not enough supportive padding for hip thrust machines. Machines also old and clunky, cannot adjust them easily. Even my personal trainer made a joke about 'being a knack to adjusting the machine' things should be accessible to the general user, some sessions i have left so frustrated because things aren't working as they should be. The changing rooms are carpeted and stink of dirty feet, yet always see cleaners in there. Pool is freezing and showers are falling to bits too. As soon as my contract is up im leaving because this is just not worth the money go elsewhere people

Fantastic experience: I signed up to Bannatyne almost a year ago and I’m really happy I made the move from David Lloyd. I visit three times a week, usually in the evening, and rarely have issues getting onto the equipment. They have everything I need for a workout, including a pool and sauna/steam room. All of the staff are friendly and welcoming, and every time I’m there they’re cleaning around me. The place is very clean, although it could do with a lick of paint in places. For the price, it offers very good value compared with similar gyms, and the evening atmosphere is busy but comfortable.

Negative experience: Described as a premium club, very poor facilities. Changing rooms are carpeted. This means you come out of the pool and into the changing room with wet feet onto damp carpet, it is grim. What swimming pool has carpeted changing rooms?Showers are grimy and the whole feeling of the space is worse than a public leisure centre. Definitely not worth the £53+ a month.

Fantastic experience: We’ll have to to say Wendy is amazing I have an incident at work after 5 years I used this gym with my family .i called gym talked to Wendy super proficional and she resolve my problem payments etc . Negative experience: Worse gym ever , equipment is old and not much of the equipment, have been harassed for payments event after I have left the gym and haven't been there for 4 months and have informed them but they still will try to charge you aggressively and try to ripe you off as much as they can. Worse gym ever will not recommend it to anyone.

Negative experience: More details will be shared in time but regardless of cancelling a membership after seeing an increase in membership fees, over and above what was in the contract when I joined, one year ago. They feel it is fair that 30 days notice is given, regardless of not using the gym and not planning to. Telling me that another month will be charged. Bearing in mind they charge over £40 per month for a reasonably underequipped gym with often out of order machines and facilities. I personally would be shocked to have an overall Google review of 3.5 - I imagine this will be getting worse. There are much less expensive gyms with much better equipment, not only that, those gyms habe a cancellation policy which is fair. They seem to be prepared to send this £40, they allege I should be paying, despite not using their facilities, to a debt collection agency, creating more stress, despite being told the costs are too high and this is why I cancelled. Please be aware, cancelling is not just a click of a button, I have created a video to show how difficult they make it compared to other gyms. This is not a petty complaint, this is an honest and fair review and I am calling out this multi million pound organisation. Following this.review, I am positive their will be a response to it, no doubt will be claiming that I didn't give enough notice. Which being at the earlier part of the previous month, surely they would only then try to charge a part month? No, they believe it should be a full month extra payment. It will be a standard response, there will be no proper addressing of the situation,.which is why they have such a bad Google rating and it will only get worse. I will share all of their comms so far anyway. I think more people should be made aware. I Will update this review once I receive their harassment letters, or rather their debt collection agencie's letters of harassment.

Negative experience: Please don’t sign Empty paperwork with out your consent filled by your self, don’t Trust Reception Girls and Sign the empty forms. Because you can’t cancel the contract they filled for you in Application form, what they Verbally Agreed not with in the paperwork. So after that you can’t cancel your contract or Direct Debit. They will keep asking your money if you are not using the Membership even. Thanks.

Fantastic experience: Wow. Just wow.

Negative experience: Worst gym in the area. Everything is dirty and uncleaned. There's been a bit of chewing gum stuck to the seat of the sauna for over a year now, it's slowly melted into the wood. The sauna has been broken since before Christmas, not unfunctional, just half of the wooden seat has collapsed and rather than fix it, they've turned it off. The pool is cold, and has green algae growing around it's outside. the steam room has been refit unprofessionally last year and is already falling a part. The heating broke for the showers and it took about two months to work again. The swimming costume dryer is always ripping itself off the wall and is put back on in exactly the same way each time it does. The staff don't care as they get minimum wage to sit around all day. The entire place feels close to closing down and yet the prices of our memberships go up to account for those cancelling their memberships and going elsewhere. Long gone is the Bannatyne name.

Fantastic experience: Staff are super nice and welcoming. Young lady on reception has been very helpful with my membership setup. Gym equipment is good and clean. Would reccomend 10/10.

Positive experience: A very average gym. Is making improvements but is in need of refurbishment in quite a few areas still. Staff are friendly but passive and repairs take an age. The sauna due to a broken bench was out of commission for over 6 weeks from Dec 24 to Jan 25. I am still a member as it’s convenient for a quick lunchtime workout during my work day. There is a huge board with gym rules on, it would be nice to have them enforced particularly mobile phone usage. Equipment is ok, cardio is pretty decent but could do with more weight equipment for peak times. If you are looking for a high-end polished gym experience this is not for you but it gets the job done with rough edges.

Fantastic experience: I have trained at over 6 gyms in Norwich and I can comfortably say the hospitality is the best here. Wendy & Nick especially went above and beyond. On top of the hospitality the gym is very new, extremely rare that there is any issues with equipment and it always kept clean. 0 complaints with this gym and I’m happy to be a member!

Negative experience: The "were on it" gym....fed up of the amount of equipment that is out of service.. everywhere you look are signs saying were on it? the problem is their not and the equipment remains out of use for months which is a pain because its not the most equiped gym when everything is running.

Negative experience: Limited gym equipment - there is also broken gym equipment that hasn't been fixed for over a month. I was there when the large resistance weight stack caused a head bleed injury to the user. When I joined they offered 2 free passes, but don't make it clear you have to use that within the first month of membership - what's the point!! Honestly, for half the price there are far more modern and better equipped gyms, if it wasn't conveniently located, I wouldn't be a member.

Positive experience: Well sited with adequate parking on site and benefits by having a charging point for electrical vehicles. Didn't have the opportunity to use their equipment, but the centre seemed well maintained.

Negative experience: Went here for a spa day bought through Virgin Experience days - we left without even getting changed! Changing rooms were dirty and crowded. Swimming pool was dirty with a couple of broken sun beds. Have complained and been refused a refund. Paid £80 for a relaxing spa day for 2. Do not waste your money!

Negative experience: Quite possibly one of the dirtiest gyms I’ve been too. The floor was covered in bits & pieces and just the over all standard of cleanliness was awful. There’s no atmosphere & a severe lack of equipment. I quit within the cooling off period, but be aware THERE IS NO REFUND, even if you’re extremely unhappy with the service provided, so I essentially paid for 2 sessions at £15 a go for possibly the worst gym session I’ve ever had, rip off!

Fantastic experience: Not actually been inside but we broke down outside today and 2 of the kindest people (assuming employees) came out to ask if we needed help in the pouring rain - thank you so much, it was very kind of you!

Positive experience: I agree with the comments made about people hogging machines while on their phones “exercising their thumbs” and I agree the staff are not particularly friendly. Cleaning is also an issue for me. The showers in particular are not cleaned properly. I’ve been at the gym for two years ( because it’s close to my home) and the dead spider that was in the shower cubicle 2 years ago, is still there…….‍♂️

Negative experience: The staff are amazing . Nothing more I can add to that , but the pool area needs money spent on it , metal rail around whirl pool lifting out of ground , steps going into whirl pool loose and wobbly , whirlpool it’s self dirty , sand in bottom , murky water , not that warm , a lot of regulars commented on that also. Ceiling falling down above shower in pool area , all rusty , just needs some attention as this stands out when you go and have a relaxing spa day . Wouldn’t go again , there are other places where you feel your getting a luxury spa day .

Fantastic experience: Now been a member for just under a month and my experience with the club is amazing, the staff are very welcoming and are more than happy to help you if you need help with anything. I would highly recommend the club for anyone wanting to get into fitness.

Negative experience: This has to be without a doubt the worst Bannatyne Gym in the group ! Rude and utterly incompetent staff, broken equipment and due to overcrowding cannot complete your workout. On top of that the whole place is unhygienic, mould in the changing area. It’s shame the place has gone downhill this much used to be a really good club.

Negative experience: Not a reflection of Norwich west just as bannatynes as a whole! I have never felt so disregarded as a human being in my life! I have requested to cancel my membership! Due to ill health and cannot afford the monthly payments due to the ill health! They requested evidence so I sent them my recent visit to the doctors but no that was not a substantial enough evidence! I have to have a medical letter from the doctor which when speaking to them they advised they can’t say whether or not they recommend going to the gym or not but can explain the situation! But however this is 38.40 which is nearly on par with a months membership! Which I am not willing to pay because I can’t afford it! I have never known a gym so unhelpful and disrespectful and when I am fit and well I will be attending pure gym or any other just not Bannatyne!!! I still have to pay for a gym membership I don’t plan on attending!!!

Negative experience: AWFUL GYM DO NOT GO!! I had a membership 12 months and was made to feel so uncomfortable i had to leave. Staff are rude, don't do their jobs, mould on the walls covered by paint. Constant broken equipment, utterly the worst gym in Norwich and that's comparing it to David Lloyd which is also utterly atrocious.

Negative experience: AWFUL GYM DO NOT GO HERE!!! Staff are bullying and single out individuals and allow others to do what they want. Usually young attractive women get away with what they want due to the misogyny in the gym. Equipment often broken, dirty and unsanitary. Utterly terrible gym, please do not ever spend your money here or any other Bannatynes for that matter, honestly some of the worst customer service I've ever witnessed.

Negative experience: DO NOT JOIN THIS GYM!!! Awful staff in management, constant complaints that barely get addressed, they closed off the complaints line because they were getting too many. Staff are rude and abnoxious, unwilling to offer help of even address customers. Inappropriate relationships between staff on the gym floor, resulting in people getting bullied out of the gym. The only redeeming factor of this gym is the lovely staff that man the desk as you enter, beyond the front door the gym is falling apart, neglecting work that so desperately needs doing and putting those who work out their at risk. AVOID AT ALL COSTS!

Positive experience: good but definitely needs a better air con in these summer months as there is a huge window where sun reflects into the gym making it very warm

Positive experience: Been a member now for a while due to location. Good gym, most staff don't talk to you unless it's Rachel and Jess. They are the only ones who greet you with a smile and a hello.Has decent equipment. But the gym needs to ban mobile phones. Too many lads training thumbs and taking up machines

Negative experience: Overpriced and overcrowded gym with poor equipment. 1 star for the fact they have electric chargers in the car park but even those don't have standard Type 2 (Non DC) chargers for older EVs.

Fantastic experience: This is a fantastic gym, staff are friendly and very motivating. I walk in and staff are very polite and always say hi, very helpful, clean and I'm glad to be a member

Negative experience: Honest opinion, as gyms go this has to be one of the worse. Lack of equipment that will limit your workouts, progression and fitness, and staff that simply do not care. What equipment there is, is poorly maintained and often out of order. The ‘out of order’, or ‘we are on it’ sign is the most frequent thing here, ironic ‘we are on it’ as the members obviously aren’t as they can’t use it. Half the equipment is running machines of which half get turned off due to them trying to save money. Pool and steam room same applies as temperatures have been dropped. Lots of lights out, TV’s get removed and not replaced and mirrors broken. Changing rooms are simply unhygienic and the carpets I would dread a swab test. This gym needs a complete overhaul and money spent on new equipment and infrastructure (air-con being a prime example) rather than being run on a shoe string and into the ground. There has been zero investment since Bannatyne took over. Maybe Bannatyne should focus on selling ice cream again

Fantastic experience: Love this gym, I have been a member for a while and have tried many. I was very nervous when I first started, but the staff that work there are really friendly and always helpful. Very clean and warm environment with great facilities, and so many classes and training sessions for all different needs included. Wouldn't go anywhere else now.

Negative experience: Bannatyne Gym - Pure daylight robbery! Paid for a 3 month contract, it ended and I thought nothing more of it, and dint wanna go back again! Apparently I did when they renewed my 3 month contract for some reason. If I wanted to go back again I would quite happily do it myself. Would not recommend this gym for that reason, just money based and want as much from you as they can out of you.

Negative experience: Went for a spa day and was quite disappointed as it just felt like a gym and not the spa experience we were after. Swimming pool is small and cold and only a few beds in a corner squashed next to each other & only one private cubicle in the changing rooms. Spa itself is very small and the hot stone beds were the best thing about the day although one bed wasn't working. If you want a spa experience I suggest you go somewhere else.

Negative experience: Overpriced and over crowded. The classes that take place in the middle of the gym are too loud and a joke. Half the trainers don’t have a clue.

Negative experience: Terrible place,my daughter walked into the spin class room to find a gym instructor in full Bannatyne uniform passionately kissing a young girl,totally unprofessional and to me a safe guarding issue as the man is clearly a predator of some sort as wen she complained about said instructor and what my daughter had just witnessed she was told he is in a long term relationship.after she complained to branch manager her membership was suspended so bannatynes clearly condone this type of behaviour in their gym..my question to this branch is!!what happens wen he gets bored of that young girl?Will he start on the next one??Bannatyne you should be ashamed of your selfs!!!protecting cheats and liars

Negative experience: I wouldn’t even give a single star for this gym! A few nights ago I caught a colleague (PT) that works at this gym having it off with a memeber of the gym (that was not his actual partner!) and because I reported this Misconduct to the gym manger at banntynes. The entire team covered for him, intimidated me and my mother, staring at us and watching us in groups while working out. And then filed an entire complaint against me full of lies! Stating I made the team memebers ‘u comfortable and was using foul language on gym floor’ all to get me suspended because I caught him cheating and using the spin rooms and gym floor to do it. Then trying to intimidate me after. It’s completely ridiculous! Is this how loyal members are treated and are people like this guy protected by this company? Foul.

Negative experience: Beware shady practices when trying to cancel in writing. If you do not give a full months notice (even 1 day less) they charge an extra month. If you do not pay they harass you nearly every day by text email and phone, then reject your cancellation and seek to keep charging you every month. Then when it gets above a threshold they pass it off to debt collectors for more harassment. Avoid at all cost especially as also the showers hardly work, half the cubicle doors dont shut, changing rooms smell and a quarter of the equipment is usually out of order so you have to queue to use what is working.

I didn't know where things was and Ben gave me a tour around which was awesome so I knew straight away where everything was .. lovely people and looking forward to my every day plan with bannatyne health club thank you guys

Positive experience: It’s na ok gym, local so convenient.

Negative experience: It is a nice clean gym but it is a pig to leave, you cannot leave the gym without a drs note of why you can no longer come. I have been struggling to leave for ages now, joined about a year ago but with mental health and the fact the I don't drive making it impossible and not worth going anymore I still have to stay a member and pay for the membership. This has been a battle for a few months now. Worth going to if you have the money, time, travel and health to go but otherwise spend your money wisely at another gym.

Negative experience: Cancelled due to machines not working, vending machine breakdown forcing me to spend more at the actual cafe, Leg press down for a couple weeks, pool shut for a day or 2, sauna shut for a week or so and they're threatening debt collectors, why call it a 3 month contract if you're going to threaten me to pay for more, NEVER USE THIS GYM, YOULL PAY 20 QUID AT ANY OTHER GYM FOR SO MUCH MORE, threaten me again and see what happens.

Negative experience: Terrible chain gym. Incompetent staff who are rude and plain useless. Once you’re a member, all they care about are new members and show no loyalty to existing customers. When I handed my notice in they tried to charge me for an additional months membership. When I refused to pay, they sent the debt to a collection agency. Who in turn harassed, bullied and threatened with court action. Treated disgustingly by this company and I would avoid joining this gym at all costs.

Negative experience: I could not believe, I have just bought a cup of tea, the price says £2.20 I got asked if I would like milk, I said yes to then be charged 50p for my milk which came from a 4liter bottle, which if you buy from a supermarket will only cost you £1. Are you that hard up that you have to charge for milk separately, even in Costa they don't charge you separately for your milk. Don't use the coffee shop in Bannatyne, you tight old git . I will put this all over Facebook

Positive experience: The staff here are a real credit to Bannatynes very helpful friendly and always welcoming. The equipment is of a decent quality, can't comment on classes or groups that are held. The only criticisms I have would be the condition of the changing rooms and showers although clean they are dated and well used.

Fantastic experience: Fantastic gym. Staff are lovely, always greeting and saying goodbye if they're at the entrance. Manager always says hello if you walk past him and can always see the trainer's and staff cleaning the equipment and putting the weights back when others don't

Positive experience: Started to train here on a regular basis. Good facilities including a pool and sauna. Never seems to be over crowded which is good. Friendly members of staff and free parking. Recommended if you live locally.

Negative experience: If you like training in what is basically a giant sauna this time of year, this'll be perfect for you. The aircon has never worked right in all the time I've been a member.

Positive experience: Tree by entry carpark - scratching my car :) Lockers is worthless - does not lock. Even padlock cost £10. Lockers is dirty with dust inside

Positive experience: The Bannatyne group has now taken over (Dec 16) this club previously run by Carrafour. The place has changed considerably. There has been a much needed update in the quantity and quality of the equipment but some of the atmosphere of the previous ownership has been lost in an effort to attract a wider membership. A large amount of equipment has been crammed into the space available.The pool, changing rooms and associated facilities remain the same.

Positive experience: Facilities are very good, swimming pool, steam room and sauna all included with classes and everything included. However I can only give a 3 out of 5 for this gum due to the opening/closing times at weekends. They close at 9 on a friday hmm.. and 8pm on a saturday and sunday?! its just not good enough for me. It seems that these closing times are tailored to meet the needs of staff's social lives rather than the flexibility needs of customers.

Positive experience: Good health club. Plenty of equipment and steam room, sauna, pool. Good road connections so easy to get to. Helpful staff.
