Gloucester Robinswood Hotel: Opinions
Fantastic experience: Great customer Service. Both the reception staff we dealt with, especially, Shalom was very helpful. We were there on 2 days staycation. Ideal place for families and staycation.
Negative experience: I would have slept better on a park bench during the winter. The location was convenient for me - Almost everything else was poor, I couldn’t sleep there cause you can hear absolutely everything at all times.
Fantastic experience: We recently stayed at this hotel in Gloucester and found it to be good value for the price. We particularly loved the pool and saunas, which were a real highlight. The rooms were nice and spacious, with large, comfortable beds. During both stays, we noticed that the floors in the rooms didn’t seem to have been properly hoovered, and on our second stay, the shower curtain had some mould. Apart from these minor issues, everything else was excellent. The staff were incredibly kind and helpful, especially Shalom, who went above and beyond for us. His friendliness, humor, and attentiveness truly made our stay memorable. He even arranged a complimentary breakfast, which was perfect for us and really brightened our day. Overall, we would definitely stay again and highly recommend this hotel.
Fantastic experience: Just had a fabulous stay here, room good, service excellent, they couldn't do enough for us, food lovely. Pool and sauna's brilliant. Would/will be staying again. Thank you
Positive experience: Food on the evening menu is very tasty and fair price. The Staff are very helpful and provide a professional service that goes above and beyond most hotels.
Positive experience: Ok hotel at slightly high price. Bar is in my opinion expensive and 50% of the bar staff were not fully trained. Other staff were much better. Nothing bad.
Fantastic experience: A very small lady served me and she was beautiful and kind. I believe her name was Elizabeth. The bartender Vera was also very quick and talkative. I felt safe. My food runner was called Maisely and she was brilliant. Its clean here and quiet which I like.
Fantastic experience: Very good very clean friendly staff amazing gym and pool great prices
Positive experience: Room had lots of cobwebs and net curtain was in need of replacing.
Fantastic experience: 3rd visit, great checkin by Dylan and check out by Remi. Housekeeping were friendly and efficient. Breakfast girls were friendly and helpful. Staff in the bar also friendly and helpful. Breakfast had a good selection, hot food was cooked well and tasty. We ate in the bar for 2 nights, 2 sandwiches the first night were super fresh and tasty, cheese missing from the ham and cheese sandwich but enjoyed all the same.2nd night had the Gammon which was cooked to perfection. Nice to relax poolside then a little swim.
Fantastic experience: Nice hotel with friendly staff . Quiet location with the only downside of £5 per day car park charge. Nice buffet style breakfast . The real bonus is the pool etc free to use . Overall a nice pleasant hotel
Negative experience: We have visited here a number of times as we really enjoy the getaway with the bonus of the spa. But unfortunately the most recent visit in August left me with a bitter view of the hotel due to the lack of help on CCTV footage from the car park when I found my car door was damaged overnight. I came here for a relaxing break being a tired mum of a toddler to leave stressed and frustrated with the lack of answers from the hotel manager. Beware parking your car here as despite being in full view of cameras, they apparently are not working.
Positive experience: We booked a 2 day spa break on an amazing deal with spabreaks. Dinner, bed, breakfast on both days 50 min treatment each, full access to spa and lunch on departure day for £213 pp The hotel was perfectly fine, room was decent size and comfy bed. Treatments were fab and staff were helpful. Value for money was excellent, we will do it again soon!
Positive experience: Really glad we found this place. Rooms are adequate with a large bed, tv, ensuite, coffee & tea facilities, iron & board, hairdryer. Trying the spa later today, but looks like vertical ladders, rather than steps. Not great if you've limited mobility like myself, so I'll be getting wrinkly in the jacuzzi instead! Also, pillows aren't the best, rather hard and lumpy and couldn't get any hot water for a bath on arrival. Had to wait for it to kick in after 9pm which was rather annoying after a long day! Restaurant last night was superb and all the staff have been amazing thus far
Negative experience: Bar service very slow amd amateurish and showers wont get warm because and I quote "the hotel is full"
Positive experience: We really enjoyed our two night stay , which included time in Gloucester, around the Cathedral and docks, and also a trip on the GWSR that runs from Cheltenham Racecourse. In the hotel, we enjoyed good breakfasts, and also evening meals, which were all very tasty. I also spent time in the leisure pool. All the staff were very good.
Fantastic experience: A hidden little gem of a hotel. Not what I expected from a best western chain based on previous hotels. This was clean, modern, comfortable. The food was fantastic. Drinks a bit over priced. Bar area was smart. On site gym and pool was great.
Positive experience: Nice hotel.. friendly staff... Comfortable clean room.. and only less than an hr away from the Farmers Dog by car.
Positive experience: I stayed for 4 days. The hotel has nice rooms and great location but there were days that they didnt clean my room
Fantastic experience: I had a fantastic nights stay, thanks to the company at ECOVISION putting me up here. The leisure facilities was an epic way to finish the day with a chilled out bar. Many thanks to the 2 staff members who are mom and son which assisted me perfectly .
Fantastic experience: I booked a special occasion with the Spar package and everyone we had contact with from reservation to reception staff, the swimming pool reception staff, the bar staff and breakfast staff were all absolutely amazing. The staff were respectful, very pleasant and could not do enough for you. The Indian masseur was excellent, the female swimming pool reception blonde lady, the female hotel receptionist, the bar lady and young blonde breakfast waitress were all so wonderful, and even the breakfast chef was so lovely. We cannot thank each one of them for making our weekend such an amazing experience. Unfortunately, I cannot remember the staffs names, but they all deserve to be mentioned and valued for their great work.
Positive experience: Friendly staff, lovely restaurant area and relaxing spa. Great location right next to beautiful robinswood hill with amazing walks and views of the cotswolds.
Positive experience: Booked a double room, on arrival we were shown to a twin room (two single beds simply pushed together, with separate duvets still on even). Returned to reception to ask for an actual double room, like we had booked, the staff were apologetic and friendly throughout the whole stay, pretty much the only positive thing I can say about our stay. The second room we were given, again was two single beds, but at least only one duvet this time, although the duvet didn't actually cover the whole bed, very uncomfortable with the gap in the middle, so no cuddling, my wife did not sleep. The room was incredibly warm, even with the supplied tower fan blasting at full speed and the window open. Overall the room was not that clean, lots of marks on walls and previous guests hair on the floor, shower curtain in the bathroom was filthy, and the toiletries were all empty (although not a huge issue as we took our own). The "spa pool" was disappointing... basically just a lukewarm bath with minimal bubbles, didn't spend long in it as we got rather cold. Breakfast was hit and miss, depending on what you picked, the pastries and coffee were nice, however the cooked food was terrible. Definitely would not stay here again, or recommend it.
Fantastic experience: I want to take a moment to highlight the outstanding hospitality provided by Dillian during my stay. In all my travels, I don’t think I’ve experienced customer service as exceptional as his. He went above and beyond in every way, and his genuine warmth and professionalism truly made a difference. Dillian’s light really shone through — not just in the way he handled every detail with care, but also in how he made me feel so welcome and valued as a guest. Because of him, I would highly recommend this hotel to anyone. Staff like Dillian set a standard of service that is rare to find, and he made my stay unforgettable.
Fantastic experience: My wife & I have just got back from spending a fantastic Long weekend at this amazing place. We were met by Shalom whom was polite, attentive& very, very patient.. Then we were served by Dillion whom was and is a very respectfull young man Then we were served by the brilliant staffing the restaurant. Our whole stay at this brilliant hotel for my wife's reunion. Was made extra special by these amazing staff,Then to crown it all ,the food was knockout & our room cozy ,clean & just what we needed.I can & will Recomend this place to Everyone whom will listen..Thank you--Shalom;Billon;&catering +Restaurant staff, for making us feel special. Pauline & David Weston
Positive experience: Staff really good but rooms quite run down, dirty toilet, damp stains & mould on bathroom ceiling couple of lights blown, window blanked out as it overlooked bins. Room keycard not working so need escort each time by staff to get in your room. Car park pretty full so struggle to get space if you nip off.
Positive experience: I've stayed here a few times and it's fine. A bit out of the way, but that's no problem if you're driving. There does seem to be a charge for parking, but mine was in with the room charge. Maybe it only applies to non hotel residents? Food is ok, a little pricey and the menu isn't extensive but it did me for a few nights.
Positive experience: Rewlly good customer service from Remy, he was lovely and nothing was too much. I personally didnt find the facilities as run down as some, this is nicer than many similar spa hotels and really good considering i paid less than a travelodge. Expensive food particularly for a family. The only downfalls -I travel all over to hotels and this is the slowest, most painful check in process i have ever seen. Took 20 minutes through no fault of the staff member, with 2 in front and by the time i'd been seen there was 5 more behind me. Takes 2 minutes normally! Quite frustrating after a long drive. Would benefit from 2 staff covering 3 till 5 as its busy with check ins. Pillows badly need replacing. Flat unsupportive pillows on a firm bed is a recipe for pain.
Fantastic experience: There is a spa on site but book your treatment before you go to be guaranteed your time slot. Food was absolutely beautiful.
Positive experience: Decent rooms for the price, service was great Dee was very helpful at the bar and lovely to chat to!
Positive experience: All the staff were very professional but still knew the differences between clientele, they really knew how to have a laugh, all were very kind, talkative and tentive during service. We had 4 rooms, in which 2 were spotless and 2 weren’t great (the manager on at the time was mortified and compensated us) all 4 of us ate in the restaurant which was lovely, I personally had the hunters chicken burger which was spot on. Personally I think the rooms could do with an update, the room i stayed in had no plug or charging points near the bed for phone etc. Would definitely come again sometime.
Fantastic experience: Robins Wood Hotel, Gloucester — outstanding stay! We stayed at the Robins Wood Hotel as a team from Lonely Traveler Productions and couldn’t have been more impressed. The hotel combines warm, comfortable rooms with a real sense of local character — you can tell it’s part of Gloucester’s fabric, with a history that gives the place charm and personality rather than pretension. It feels like the sort of place that’s welcomed guests for years, quietly rooted in the community. The rooms were spotless, cozy and well appointed — perfect for a team visit. The food deserves special mention: every meal we had was absolutely fantastic, from hearty breakfasts to an evening menu that showed real care and quality ingredients. Service throughout our stay was brilliant — friendly, attentive staff who made everything easy and pleasant for our group. Highly recommended for groups, couples or solo travellers looking for a warm, reliably excellent base in Gloucester. The combination of character, great food and top-notch service made our stay truly memorable. On behalf of the whole Lonely Traveler Productions team: thank you, Robins Wood Hotel — we left fed, satisfied and suspiciously eager to book our next visit.
Positive experience: Room was clean. Tv a good size. Kettle OK. Coffee and tea downmarket cheap brands. We were awoken at 4.15 by loads of activity. People in the corridor, very noisy, obviously leaving (?). Then noise outside, vehicles reversing, people talking. Off they went. Then more noise in the corridor. People in room opposite talking like the middle of the day. Two men in high vis jackets. Out in the corridor having a chat as you do at 4.30!!! Visited the spa. Pool needs upgrade. Broken tiles, mould, steps out of pool very slippery. Loads of idiots in the pool. No diving, but jumping in oh yes! Breakfast was fine except could do with more fresh fruit to go with yoghurt. Breakfast staff all very pleasant. But it couldn't make up for the bad night.
Fantastic experience: Great service but no lifts if you have heavy luggage
Negative experience: Unfortunately, our stay at this hotel was very disappointing. The only real positive was Alan, who was absolutely brilliant—warm, welcoming, and clearly committed to great customer service. He stood out in stark contrast to the rest of the staff, who were unhelpful and unwelcoming. At one point, we were trying to gain access to the leisure centre and the staff continued their personal conversation rather than assisting us. The property itself was in poor condition. There was a strong smell of stagnant water throughout, with dehumidifiers placed all over and wet carpets. At no point before booking were we made aware of these issues, which significantly impacted our comfort. The food was another letdown. The afternoon tea was very poorly prepared. The strawberries were mushy and clearly not washed properly and left me wondering if the strawberries had been dragged across the carpet. To top it all off, we were charged £10 for 24-hour parking—which feels unreasonable considering we were already paying to stay at the hotel. Overall, this experience didn’t live up to expectations, and I wouldn’t recommend this hotel until major improvements are made to service, cleanliness, and transparency.
Positive experience: Great spot for a mini break in Gloucester. The rooms are spacious and comfortable, though the bathrooms could use an update. There’s no air-conditioning, but they provide fans which helps. The food was decent. The highlight is definitely the pool area – perfect for a refreshing swim, and the sauna and steam rooms are lovely. If you want to swim laps, I recommend visiting during the adults-only session, as it tends to get quite busy and crowded.
Negative experience: DO NOT STAY HERE FOR A RELAXING GETAWAY!!! Rooms were not clean, dead bugs on windowsill, damp and mould on windows and in bathroom, marks on walls and mirrors, stains on bedding. We were upgraded rooms and faced the same issues. USB plugs in rooms also do not work. Facilities such as pool, sauna and gym are not clean and not relaxing, you can tell they have not been updated in years and they are not well maintained. There is also a smell of sewage/smoke/damp throughout the hotel making a generally unpleasant stay. After seeing the facilities, we asked to cancel the stay. Unfortunately staff weren’t able to accommodate this request however were very friendly and helpful otherwise! Also FYI - you have to pay for your own parking. I would say this is more of a budget family hotel than a relaxing spa experience. Save yourself and book somewhere else!!
Positive experience: All excellent. Food, service and facilities. The only negative was having to pay £5 for the on-site car park.
Fantastic experience: We had a fantastic stay at the Gloucester Robinswood Hotel. The pool was even larger than we expected, and we thoroughly enjoyed relaxing in the sauna and steam rooms. Everything was clean and well-maintained, which made the experience even more enjoyable. Overall, we felt we got excellent value for money and would definitely recommend this hotel to others.
Negative experience: Over priced. Had a lovely spa session then expecting to have a nuce relaxing swim, but there so was so many children in there jumping in and and out nothing relaxing about that. There was no spare chairs or loungers. The ones that were there needed bleaching!!!!! The food.....well, nothing more than average. Bog standard, nothing more than a wetherspoons. Stupidly over priced drinks spoiled the night for us. £1:50 for cordial, then another £4:50 for lemonade and £6:90 for the vodka. Totally over priced. The staff were lovely, but just a shame that the place is so expensive for what is it is.
Fantastic experience: Absolutely fantastic hotel, breakfast was spot, the swimming was to the right temperature and the staff were absolutely lovely
Negative experience: We had a meal in the bar this evening at best it was ok, cooked ok but food quality poor and tasteless, will think more than twice before going there again. Although the staff were friendly they have lost their spark
Positive experience: Hotel rooms are tired, particularly the bathrooms. I really despise having to pay for parking at hotels. It’s exploitation of the highest order. It might only be £5-6 per night. But it leaves a terribly sour taste.
Negative experience: Skanky smelly room; broken rubbishy fan; weird (massive) squeaky hole in floor beneath carpet; could smell either the previous guest's aftershave or someone sprayed perfume to cover up weird stinky room smell. Pillows below average; used our own pillows from previous camping trip; Mouldy hand towel; no air con in room; shower dribbled out with no pressure; sink drained slowly and backwashed. Windows didn't open a lot. Foyer and restaurant was a fridge for staff running around but stupidly cold for guests. Corridors and rooms were sweltering and hot. ugly bar with gross carpet; barstaf didn't know what a desperados and a Whitely Neil & Lemonade was. Reception staff average/perfunctory but knew their lines. Housekeeping bloke friendly. Pool changing rooms smelly & dirty; pool grotty and slimy; pool changing rooms eggy and showers broken and stinky. Felt dirty leaving leisure area but shower in room too crap to clean. cheap car park five quid.
Fantastic experience: Excellent service. Me, my mum and sister went for a spa day with a massage and afternoon tea. We agreed that Ivliana the massage therapist gave the best massage we have ever had. She was so calming, checked in with us about the pressure. We all like different pressures but yet she got it right for all of us. We then had a afternoon tea. My sister has a severe dairy allergy and carries epipens for this. She called and told the restaurant before. On the day, the lady who served us was soo good and understanding of allergies. This is sadly quite rare in places. She brought out my sister's afternoon tea first and then our one. As there was so much food, we asked to take some of the cakes with us. This was not a problem. Again, the lady, took my sister's platter and made sure it stayed well away from our other platter and wrapped it all separately. I wished we had her name but whoever it was, she was brilliant. We are so thankful to the hotel for giving us the relaxation day which we needed!
Fantastic experience: £5 per day for parking, but the room located not friendly if have leg problems. a lot of stairs and door to go.
Fantastic experience: Amelia did an excellent job with the full body massage. Very happy with the service that was given and would happily return again. Thanks again Amelia!
Positive experience: A Wonderful Stay Let Down by the Final Hours Our experience at the hotel was excellent overall – a solid 5-star stay right up until the last few hours. From the moment we arrived, the service at reception was warm and professional, both during check-in and later at night when we needed assistance. The swimming pool was clean, spacious, and enjoyable. Dinner was outstanding, with a delicious menu and quick, attentive service. Breakfast also impressed us – there was a good variety of options, and the pastries were especially fresh and tasty. Unfortunately, our positive impression was marred by a disappointing experience on the morning of our departure. We requested two bottles of water from reception and were told they would be sent to our room. After waiting for over an hour, we followed up at the desk and were informed by Donna that water could not be sent as it wasn’t complimentary, and the staff member who had confirmed otherwise was in training. The issue wasn't the charge itself – had we been told there was a fee, we would have gladly paid, as water is a basic necessity. The real problem was the complete lack of communication. No one contacted us to clarify or update us on the change, and no apology was offered at any point. Donna continued to blame the trainee throughout the conversation, and even after I mentioned that no one had taken responsibility or offered an apology, she still did not acknowledge the inconvenience. It’s unfortunate that a simple matter, if handled with better communication and a touch of courtesy, overshadowed what had been an otherwise outstanding stay.
Positive experience: The hotel is ideally situated with good rooms and amenitires. The food left much to be desired. My calamari was not good, straight out of the freezer, stuck together, not presented well. My gammon steak was just OK but the rubbery eggs were not. I like cereal and fruit for breakfast not a cooked one, but neither whole milk and bananas were available.
Negative experience: Disappointed with my stay. The room I was given hadn’t been cleaned — bed unmade, towels scattered, and rubbish bin full. Staff initially insisted the room was ready until I showed photos. They upgraded me, but first impressions matter. Unlikely to return.
Positive experience: We stayed here for a weekend in the Cotswolds. We ate in the hotel on the first night, and we were disappointed with the food, and also had to ask for our desserts to be brought out about 25 minutes after ordering. The spa facilities were good and the staff very helpful. In our room, the sheet was too small for the bed, which made the nights very uncomfortable. In addition, there were no power sockets on the wall the bed was on. As my partner needs a cpap machine to sleep this was far from ideal. Fortunately, he had brought an extension cable and we had to have it stretched across the room for the duration of our stay.
Positive experience: Always loved this hotel and spa. However…. The rooms are looking a bit old now. WIFI wouldn’t connect to my fire stick. The TV’s are ancient. No smart TV’s very limited functionality. No TV guide or apps. Mini fridge couldn’t fit anything in there so was for decoration only. Bathroom was spacious and well appointed. The whole place was surrounded by scaffolding as they’re having solar fitted. Not a great look outside your bedroom window. Staff were pleasant and attentive. There were broken glass in some of the doors in the corridors / stairwell taped up. Not a great look. Other than that another pleasant stay here.
Positive experience: Had a spa day at the hotel and a full body massage with the lovely attentive and professional Deepi. Very relaxing. Would recommend.
Positive experience: Very helpful and attentive staff. Great food in the dining room. Terrible, slow Internet. Very uncomfortable bad (lumpy sprung mattress. Good value for money but charging guests to use their own carpark seems a bit unnecessary.
Fantastic experience: Lovely hotel, stayed here before our current trip. Great staff, very friendly and helpful. Haven’t tried the food on this occasion but was absolutely amazing back in 2023
Fantastic experience: We signed up for a spaseekers deal. The room was as it said it would be. Great location to go and explore. We had an issue but don’t the need to make a big deal out of it by sharing due to the staffs response. THOMAZ the new manager was amazing!!! We really liked how he handled the situation actually. Dee the bar lady brought the fun factor with her bubbly warm personality and went out her way to accommodate our needs. Thanks hun. REMI the reception guy also was great in helping us!!! Food was lush.. the massage guy PHAKESH gave me the best treatments ever…I would highly recommend this to my family and friends. Last night here and we now feel refreshed and relaxed also very stuffed after having salmon stirfry noodles and then banoffee pie with salted caramel ice cream mmmm… delicious!!! We came for a wedding and we would definitely recommend this hotel
Positive experience: The staff were friendly and demonstrated good customer care skills. However, our first night didn't go as smoothly as we had hoped. We waited over an hour for our starters and were not informed about the delays. Many people around us were also waiting for their food and desserts. The breakfast was decent but nothing special. The spa treatment, on the other hand, was outstanding. Sarah was my therapist, and I left feeling less stressed, with no knots in my upper shoulder and neck. She was friendly, attentive, and a great listener. Thank you so much for my massage Sarah! After the spa, we had dinner, and the service was excellent. We mentioned our concerns about the first night, especially since we were unable to order desserts due to the restaurant closing. To our delight, I received a surprise birthday treat with a lovely decoration that read "Happy Birthday." This surprise made my birthday feel complete. The decor in the reception area, restaurant/bar, and treatment rooms was nice. However, the rooms themselves are quite dated and could benefit from some new decor.
Fantastic experience: Had a lovely time here, the staff were fantastic and very attentive. Amelia gave me the best massage and I felt so so relaxed afterwards! Cannot recommend her enough - lovely attitude and so friendly.
Fantastic experience: Amazing massage! Amelia made me feel super comfortable and relaxed. Definitely would come back and recommend
Fantastic experience: The staff have been great from the moment we arrived. Faye went above and beyond to ensure we had a a comfortable stay. The hotel is very clean and the leisure facilities are great! Would definitely stay here again.
Positive experience: 10mins drive from city centre, nice and quiet location. Room was basic, with some outdated features like limited plug sockets, and some mold/water damage around window. Spa, pool and sauna were just right, good size and well maintained with adult only hours for those looking for a more tranquil time. Dinner was lovely, and not very expensive at all... breakfast was cheap and cheerful with the expected choices on the buffet. All staff were amazing, went the extra mile for us. Special mention to Remy who was very approachable and helpful at front desk on check-in and later on.
Fantastic experience: Hotel was nicely decorated and in a peaceful location with a great view overlooking the hills from our window. A large clean room although floor very creaky and it had everything you could need. Amazing food both for breakfast and evening meals and excellent service from check in to leaving. All staff very warm, friendly, polite and tentative. Special thanks goes to Elizabeth in the restaurant who took time out to explain the dishes and chat while still working hard, on other tables and guests. Thank you Elizabeth you really made our stay fun for my friends "special" birthday, keep doing what you do Even made use of the jacuzzi, swimming pool and sauna both days which was a great way to round off the day and chill and relax after exploring the cotswold villages. Would highly recommend this hotel.
Negative experience: Arrived, having booked two rooms weeks in advance as part of a golf booking, there was "only one room under that booking". Bit of back and forth with a perfectly nice bloke, eventually he finds the other room booking (not sure what changed as we only had one booking reference but hey ho, he found it). Checked in, room key didnt work for one of the rooms. Back to reception - ah yeah thats our "Special Room" - the door cards dont work with it, havent for ages so if you need to get into the room you will have to come to reception and a member of staff escort you to the room to use the master key to let you in. Fully occupied apparently (breakfast and dinner never fully occupied but ok if you say so) so can't change your room. Room itself no aircon, can barely open the window and no way to turn bathroom towel rail off - blazing hot room continually. Both mornings our room not listed for breakfast so shenanigans then (sorted easily enough though). We'd paid half board as part of a golf weekend break, when we booked our evening sitting on the saturday - we ate there on the Friday and food was perfectly fine - we were told that we would be charged if we didnt turn up?? No idea why they thought we wouldnt turn up - we ate there the night before and were at the hotel now, booking dinner for an hours time, we also pointed out that we'd already paid for the dinner we were again told "it doesnt matter, you'll be charged if you dont turn up". Ive no idea what she was on about tbh. but reiterated we'd already paid, wanted to book the table and were here now in front of you- its unlikely that we wont turn up as a result. After dinner back to reception yet again to be escorted to our room (also yet again) so we could get in, the receptionist gleefully telling us that if it was her staying in a room she coudlnt open "she'd go mad". Great. At check out we were asked to pay for our dinners, again pointed out we were half board and after a bit of back and forth "ah yeah, ok". no apology. Drove home, next day we find one of the party of four has had £400 taken from his card used to set up check in. After phone calls to bookings and then finally getting through to the hotel they said the receptionist had "accidentally charged the card". money returned quick enough but overall a bad experience and not a hotel we would return too.
Negative experience: Avoid this hotel at any cost. They booked me out to a cheaper hotel and made my two day stay in Gloucester absolute nightmare. Thanks for nothing staff at this hotel who also refused to compensate or refund my booking fee. You don’t even deserve a one star
Positive experience: We booked a spa day here. While the online photos looked better than reality and it wasn’t as relaxing as other spas—likely due to the number of children (it was a bank holiday)—the cream tea was lovely with a warm, freshly baked scone with raisins. My masseuse, Charlotte, was very kind and gentle, and all the staff were very accommodating.
Negative experience: I drove nearly 3 hours and at 2.30pm get a call saying my room cancelled. I was staying overnight for a wedding. The service after been told room was cancelled was poor. No offer to find me another hotel, no offer to cover costs, nothing. They happy to leave there customer stranded without no responsibility for there actions. I called back and was told I was speaking wrongly on the phone. Finally 30mins later a respectable call saying sorry and offer to help. Of course I didn't take their help. It's now 10.59, ruined my day and no refund. What a joke hotel.
Fantastic experience: Absolutely outstanding. Highly recommend staying here. A personal thanks to the reception staff and Sharon the duty manager. The service we received from Sharon was second to none and all the restaurant staff. Remy was a star too. If you are thinking of booking a stay at this amazing hotel , please stay away from 3rd parties i.e. Booking.com they caused nothing but problems. I will always book direct next time, and it's not always clear what you are getting, and the commission paid to the 3rd party booking company can be costly to the hotel. If you requested to pay on the day. Be very careful as I was due to pay on arrival and this was granted by the hotel. To my horror they took all the money out of my account. Communication is the key, but sadly they failed on this occasion, causing me nothing but stress Apart from that, we had a fabulous time. Thank you.
Positive experience: No issues at all! I had worries booking here after seeing previous reviews, but glad I booked! The rooms were a little dated, but comfortable and fine. The staff were all lovely. The swimming pool changing rooms were very mouldy as other reviews have stated, but the pool itself was clean and no issues. Other reviews complain about needing to pay for parking, but it was only £5 for our full stay, and the car park is safe and secure. The breakfast was good too, would stay again!
Negative experience: Hotel staff were great, breakfast in the morning was lovely, unfortunately the thing that let it all down was the room. It was the most uncomfortable bed I’ve ever slept in, it has given me a crick in my neck, I was awake every hour or so because of how hard and uncomfortable the bed was, also, only 3 pillows for 2 people!! Would of been perfect if the bed didn’t let it all down!
Positive experience: Best western Hotel. Not ideally located for visiting the city. Had to get taxis. However we enjoyed our stay. The staff are all helpful and friendly.
Fantastic experience: Wonderful stay better than when we stayed two years ago. Staff are all pleasant. Food is fine. Room spot on. Leisure facilities perfect. As a couple spending their anniversary wanting a chilled break together it has hit the spot and more. Feel refreshed. A staff member made our night Dee who was positive and smiled and friendly. Thanks we will be returning again.
Fantastic experience: 5 friends and I spent 2 nights last weekend in the Robinswood Hotel and couldn't fault anythingy Unfortunately I was taken ill on the first evening but Karl (the Manager) and Claire and Jamie (Food and Beverage Supervisors) were brilliant. One of them stayed with me at all times until the Ambulance arrived giving First Aid as needed We had booked a table for 7.30 the following evening but I returned from the hospital at 8.20. However the table had been kept for us and we could not have received better service. I went to bed very soon after and had a much needed nights sleep in the most comfortable bed I have ever slept in. All staff were attentive, empathetic and professional at all times and I cannot thank them enough. As an addition to this, the hotel was spotless, the food was excerllent nd the pool and jacuzzi were a bonus We will be back!!!
Positive experience: I would like to personally thank the staff at the Robinswood Hotel. My daughter and I are gluten free (coeliac disease) and they went above and beyond to look after us. The staff were incredible and deserve a lot of praise. We were very disappointed by the fact the swimming pool was so cold as there is an issue with the heating. I picked the hotel out due to the swimming pool , so it was disappointing but the room and service were exemplary.
Positive experience: Could Be Better – Some Improvements Needed The hotel has potential, but there are several things that need improvement. The bed was huge, but unfortunately, the mattress was unstable and moved a lot. I also noticed cobwebs in the corners, which was disappointing. The room lacked basic hygiene supplies and did not have a fridge, which would have been useful. Additionally, the pool water was quite cold, making it uncomfortable to swim. Most importantly, the rooms should be better soundproofed – it was easy to hear noise from the neighboring rooms. With some improvements, this hotel could offer a much better experience.
Positive experience: I wish they had told us on the phone that the hot tub in the swimming pool was not working. We were very disappointed. I have seen better places and there are bedbugs in the rooms. It would be great if they would take care of this issue.
Positive experience: Was a very pleasant experience overall, the room was a good size, leisure facilities onsite, in hotel restaurant and bar, staff are very welcoming and happy to help with any requests.
Positive experience: We arrived on a Friday evening around 9.30 pm, and we did have an issue with the room only to be moved with the same issue, but the bloke on reception "monty" i think was so helpful and booked us in for the suite on the Saturday evening. Breakfast Saturday morning was a disappointment. They couldn't seem to get a full menu out at the same time, Sunday was much better. We decided to order room service Saturday night, not worth the money, my steak was fatty chewy, and no steak knife provided, definitely below standard for the price. Leisure facilities ok, could do with some tlc. This was our third time here over the years before covid being our first visit. I don't think it has changed much. Looks like our third visit was our last.
Positive experience: Lovely stay. Buffet breakfast nice choices but hot not very hot. Nice refurbishment of room.
Positive experience: A good clean hotel located in a good spot in Gloucester close to the ski slope in the Matson area of Gloucester. The hotel comes with the spa, gym and swimming pool. Staff are friendly and helpful.
Positive experience: Friendly staff and a very good swimming pool with jacuzzi, sauna, and steam room. My bedroom, though a little dated, was large clean with a bath and shower. Minor niggles no remote control in my room upon arrival and the tea and coffee not being restocked the second day where both resolved by a visit to reception quickly. Breakfast each morning was okay. However, I coment each day that the hot buffet food was not very hot, particularly the mushroom being cold cold, even though under a heated lamp. Also, on my first day of breakfast, they'd run out of sausages? There is paid parking at the hotel. However, this was waived due to being a blue badge holder. Overall experience was good and I would stay again.
Fantastic experience: Just want to say thank you to Alanna from the SPA team. She was amazing in dealing with my many enquiries about booking a massage for myself and my mum and was super accommodating with our requests. Her patience is just commendable! Thank you Alanna. If the massages are even close to her service, we will be very happy!
Negative experience: We have booked a spa day with a massage. Swimming pool area needs a serious renovation. Extreme dirt, mold on the windows, mold between the tiles and rust paid for 30mins massage my massage lasted 20mins defined not coming back. Only the guy at the check in desk was nice the only positive thing.
Fantastic experience: Lovely hotel, room was clean and smelt lovely on arrival. The gentleman on reception was so helpful and all staff were lovely. Food was very good and so was the spa facilities. Perfect night away.
Negative experience: This place is a health hazard. Unbelievably filthy gym and changing rooms. Swimming pool filthy and covered in used sticking plasters and black sludge under mats by door. Tiles fell off in pool area in September and these still haven’t been fixed. Showers do not work and are freezing cold. Used sanitary products lying on floor for days despite reporting to reception. Members are leaving in droves and I’m having to follow suit as the place is just beyond disgusting. Will be calling environmental health
Negative experience: After 3 days of asking for a chair and toilet roll to be put in my room I gave up asking. After speaking to a bar lady name Dee she had it sorted in 10 minutes. Reception staff are rude. One lady at breakfast with a strange hair cut needs sacking with the way she talks to guests. This hotel needs more Dee’s
Fantastic experience: Stayed here for a 2 night hotel deal with meal included first night -food so good stayed in for food second night .Rooms well sized and well equipped .Bed v comfortable.Staff all very welcoming , cheerful and helpful . Definitely recommend a stay here
Positive experience: Nice place, very outdated. Gym, swimming pool and changing rooms are dirty, I’ve never seen a cleaner in any of the areas either. Desperately need a clean and TLC
Fantastic experience: We recently stayed at the Robinswood Hotel, and despite some mixed reviews I had seen beforehand, I found it to be excellent value for money. It was about £10 more than a Premier Inn, but the additional amenities more than make up for it. The hotel offers a pool, gym, squash court, sauna, and steam room, which is a real bonus and added a touch of relaxation to my stay. The facilities/room were clean and well-maintained, making it a pleasant experience. The staff were also very friendly and accommodating, ensuring everything went smoothly during my visit. While it may not be the most luxurious option, for the price, it’s hard to beat what Robinswood has to offer. Free parking is included in your room rate - you do need to remember to put your reg and number of nights stay in though! If you’re looking for a budget-friendly stay with a bit of extra comfort and facilities, I’d highly recommend giving Robinswood Hotel a try. It exceeded my expectations, and I’d definitely stay here again.
Negative experience: Just had christmas dinner .shambles. table was like I was on titanic .manager wasn't interested. We got moved to the bar area which had no atmosphere. Food took 40 to 60 mins to come for the money I didn't expect to que at bar for a drink plus there was no bar person there.food was average. Staff was unorganised. Never again 180 down drain .merry Christmas

Fantastic experience: Came in for our Christmas party. Food was ok but what made it special was the bar staff. Friendly, polite and nothing was too much trouble. Especially Vera and Dee. Thank you ladies for a lovely evening!
Positive experience: Nice hotel, yes it is at the side of a housing estate but also opposite a snow/ski center if that's your thing. Just had a lovely 2 night stay here. Spa and pool was lovely. All staff doing a great job food was ok perfectly edible but not gourmet. Bar was nice but sofas need replacing as their tatty. Rooms were basic but clean. Overall a lovely stay and you get what you pay for if you want a 5* hotel then pay for it. Oh and we never seen any lesbian shows in the pool
Negative experience: Reception staff were very officious. We were not greeted/welcomed. The food at our works party was leftover from last Christmas. Dry and tasteless. It’s got to be hard to prepare food in large quantities, but, I’m sure I could have done better. The cleaning lady was lovely.
Negative experience: Pros: convenient and peaceful location, clean rooms, decent breakfast buffet, friendly staff in person Cons: poor sound-proofing between rooms, zero customer service when not there in person, very cold room with non-functioning radiator, billing me twice for my room despite warning reception staff that I had already paid via Booking.com. I am completely unable to contact them since finishing my stay (all my emails are going unanswered and I am unable to get through to reception over the phone, and voicemails are not being returned). I will have to initiate a charge-back via my credit card provider.
Positive experience: Booked this hotel as it was near the Forest of Dean, Wye Dean Valley etc. Didn't actually use the spa facilities but they seemed popular. Good location, easy to get to. Room was spacious, bed was big. Bed was quite hard, did get back aches and side aches after two nights but room was clean. Bathroom seemed newer than the rest of the room but it was nice and clean. Reception was friendly and helpful. I booked breakfast as part of the stay, it was what you'd expect. Not that much choice but still good and staff kept the food topped up so it didn't run out. Staff were polite, too. I would question if it is worth £12.60 per person but at least you can eat as much as you want. The hotel is right opposite a ski & snowboarding centre which seemed popular. On the website, it says parking is free but you need to pay £5 a day, upon arrival. It was a bit confusing as it seemed like you'd need to pay. If you go into the hotel, you can validate your parking by entering your registration number to their machine, so you don't actually need to pay for parking. The hotel has an onsite restaurant which I think you need to book into, and a bar. Quite popular with local residents, so bear in mind the car park could be quite busy if you arrive on a Friday evening. There is overspill parking round the back and you can enter the hotel that way, rather than coming round the front to get to reception.
Negative experience: Booked a spa day for my daughters birthday, would never recommend it from here. From the start there was no mention on email or website that you have to pay for parking, the spa room was cold, and did not last the half hour booked. You have to pay £5.00 for the lock for lockers if yours don't fit. The showers were cold not even luke warm, and when it came to the afternoon tea, well, had to wait half hour for it to come to table ( there was only one other couple in there ) we then had to ask where the pot of teas were, that then took another 20 mins to come, with no milk or sugar and a pot for one. We actually then went home has enough was enough. Will never go back
Fantastic experience: We decided last minute for a night away and booked without much research but would come back next time we need a short break. We had a great night stay here, the staff we met are all lovely and helpful. Dinner and breakfast were very nice. Easy parking, bed was comfy and room was very quiet with amazing blackout curtains!! The gym had decent equipment and the pool looked very nice, unfortunately we ran out of time to enjoy it.
Positive experience: Lovely hotel, food was great & service was excellent. We also enjoyed our time at the spa but the showers were cold and did not stay on long in the female changing rooms. I had to lean my back onto the button to keep the shower on to wash my hair and body. Not great when I have long hair! I would rate 5 stars if the showers were better.
Fantastic experience: I had a swimming lesson here....the reception guy was very polite as was the leisure reception guy. The only thing I would add, because I have rheumatoid arthritis I found it extremely difficult getting out of the pool, as my hands sometimes don't have the strength to pull myself up the steps....other than that the pool was nice....you may want to monitor it a bit more though as your notices say no diving & plenty of people were doing just that
Negative experience: The staff are the best part about this hotel. They’re friendly , attentive and professional. However, we weren’t impressed with much else. We booked a double room, and had two single beds pushed together, so the beds just came apart. The shower pressure was awful and the walls are thin so you can hear everything. Unfortunately our stay was made worse by other loud guests having a group gathering in a single room. Once we did manage to sleep we were woken up at 1am to a thump on our door and a person screaming, followed by loud conversations. Although this is not the hotels fault, it made me feel uneasy and I do feel the situation could have been deescalated earlier on in the evening. The spa pool and jacuzzi were cold! Not an enjoyable experience as we’d hoped. 2/5 purely for the excellence of the day and night reception team and breakfast team.
Positive experience: The hotel does don't deserve 4 stars, in my opinion. The staff have forgotten some details multiple times (reordered wine, dinner etc). One of the days the room has been very poorly tidied. Reception seemed busy, with only 1 staff member at all times, so quite a waitibg time for any enquiries. The swimming pool seems to be rather cold, the jacuzzi water seemed cold even. The showers are cold too, didn't want to stay long at all due to poor temperature. Water fountains weren't working during our stay. Dining area is rather dark and the waiting staff not attentive, sitting with dirty plates for a while. Only one waitress, who was absolutely lovely and made up for the rest of the carelessness during dinner. Breakfast ladies were lovely too. However, would not stay there again.
