The Quays Leisure Club: Opinions
Negative experience: Staffs attitude is terrible especially the older guy with a slick back gray haircut on reception, was happy to sign up but there attitude alone stopped me and have gone else where
Negative experience: This gym is no good they take money out of your bank even though I have stopped going there for 3 months!!! I told my bank to stop payments but they are still taking money out of my bank !!! Crap gym!
Fantastic experience: Good facilities, nice and staff and really good value for money
Fantastic experience: I have been a member here for nearly 3 years. They renovated the gym this year with equipment which is nice and up to date. The staff are always helpful and friendly. I like that the gym is rarely overcrowded at the times I use it. It has to be the best value for money gym/spa in Sheffield, most others are quite a lot more expensive.
Positive experience: Good gym equipment is all new , good people and friendly staff especially Anna who goes above and beyond for people! Gym is generally quite so you can get a nice workout sauna and steam is great, men’s changing rooms and showers need upgrading I was told this will happen towards the end of 2025
Negative experience: Warning: Unsafe & Uncaring Environment for Women, old tired dirty pool and changing areas. Over crowded, expensive and horrible. My friend and I were forced to abandon our membership at Quays Leisure Centre due to the recent unacceptable and escalating intimidating behavior from large groups of men in the pool area. We endured a lack of swimwear, blatant disregard for hygiene (no showering after work outs and getting straight in pool), dangerous jumping, and constant, disgusting staring, rude comments, intentional splashing, groups of men with phones out, and laughter directed at us solely because we are women. The environment became so hostile and oppressive that we no longer felt safe or welcome. Despite reporting these alarming concerns to reception multiple times, absolutely nothing improved. The management's lengthy response to our final email complaint (as nothing changed after complaining in person) was a pathetic attempt to dismiss our legitimate complaints, saying 'we dont have a life guard so we cant see what happens'. We were compelled to leave due to their utter failure to provide a safe environment and take any action about our complaints. Do not expect them to care about your concerns or provide a secure space. It's also dirty, tired and extremely overwhelmed crowded in general. We will never be returning.
Negative experience: If I could leave zero stars I would. I mainly used this club for swimming but did use the gym occasionally. The gym has been recently refurbished and the new machines ate top notch. Thats where the good points end I'm afraid. The changing rooms and toilets are disgusting. Mold everywhere. They smell. My partner tells me the men's are 10 times worse. Nearly all of the lockers are broken and you still need a pound to use them - an absolute joke given the price you already pay to be a member here. The pool is small and often dirty and full of sand but has a small sauna and steam room. In recent months it has become a lot more busy and its now impossible to swim properly. There's also no regard for the pool rules, I've seen men in their boxer shorts. Sitting by the pool on their phones (despite the no phones policy), jumping in and intentionally splashing. Entering the pool after being in the gym or sauna without showering. It made me uncomfortable as a woman to have so many men sat around the pool edge on their phones. I've also had repeat infections while attending this pool, perhaps reflecting how unclean it is. The mold in the showers also aggravated my asthma. Upon raising these concerns in person and by email I was completely dismissed, laughed at and told there was nothing they could do. Dont waste your money on this place. I've found somewhere a lot better and a lot cheaper. I would especially avoid if you are a woman. It's not a safe space. The male receptionist with the slicked back blonde hair is particularly rude, misogynistic and dismissive. He also has made unsolicited comments on my outfit in the past - I hope he was just trying to be friendly but it came off as creepy. So glad to never be going back here.
Negative experience: A man walked into the women's changing room, my Mrs told the man he can not be there and the guy said he can use both changing rooms. I also explained to a member of staff and he was not helpful at all and said he can't do anything about it which i dont think is fair. I don't recommend this gym to anyone especially Muslim people who dont want females to be in the same changing room as men.
Positive experience: I previously rated this gym 1 star due to poor conditions, but I am updating my review to 4 stars because they have completely renovated the gym. The equipment is now top-notch, well-maintained, and the overall setup has been done really nicely. It feels like a proper, high-quality gym now. The only area that still needs attention is the changing room, specifically the showers and toilets, which could use some improvement. Once that is addressed, this gym will be excellent!
Negative experience: they dont even have scales in the gents. they have been missing for weeks, asked multiple times about them and no one has a clue when they are getting replaced. changing rooms absolutely stink of mould and urine although the cleaner is constantly working tirelessly to sort it out - not his fault a fault with the management. pool is disgusting and grotty, and has sand in. sauna and steam room constantly breaking. dont even bother going here.
Negative experience: Really outdated, most of the equipment is out of order. Really bad smell in the changing room
Negative experience: Needs a refurbishment old eccuiptment very tired £35 a month minimum 3 months
Fantastic experience: Very good monthly price for what you get free parking free classes,..very very clean very friendly staff all equipment is top of the range,..best gym iv ever joined
Negative experience: This placed is very dated and long overdue a refurbishment. The gym floor is a decent size however the equipment is very worn and outdated, bench’s have rips in them. The sauna and steam room and regularly out of order and the hot tub have never been open since I joined. The changing rooms need a lot of tlc, doors to showers are missing, ceiling tiles missing, shower heads missing/rusting. Floors /walls are filthy. Full strip out is needed. I would be embarrassed if I were the owners. Invest some money in the place an this could be a great facility. For £35pm this is not worth it! I won’t be renewing my membership.
Positive experience: Nice place
Positive experience: Hello its a lovely place certainly recommended it to friends
Negative experience: All the treadmills need servicing . Pool and sauna always full
Positive experience: Poor, needs a good refurbishment,
Fantastic experience: Looked nice didn't use
Fantastic experience: Excellent leisure facility, spacious and comfortable, very large well equipped gym, exercise hall and aerobic studio, swimming pool, sauna, rest areas and member's lounge. Friendly and helpful staff.
Positive experience: Friendly staff and nice atmosphere. Facilities such as changing rooms have definitely seen better days. Could do with a bit of a refresh in that sense.
Positive experience: Is okay, I recommend it
Positive experience: Sauna far to hot I've used Sauna's for over 40yrs you need to be able to relax but top shelf far too hot to get onto nice pool shame the jacuzzi has not worked for over a year or so
Positive experience: The gym is good quality, but needs improvement.
Positive experience: Paul and his staff were always available to help and represent the organisation well.
