Everlast Gyms - Canterbury: Opinions
Fantastic experience: Everlast gymis the best in Canterbury
Positive experience: Been a member nearly a year. Pretty good gym with swimming pool and a steam room. Overall good vibes nice staff for sure! Would be 5 stars but equipment is outdated.
Fantastic experience: Great pool
Negative experience: DONT GO TO THIS GYM There was no air con for months. Every other week a new machine breaks. There is plenty of floor space yet they add no new equipment. Before I left there was a horrible smell in the air and about 3 leaks in the roof. Some of the staff just sit on their phone the whole time (don't blame them, wouldn't wanna work there either). A lot of the equipment there is terrible (e.g. the fly machine). I can't believe I had to endure the pain and suffering of attending this gym for 2 years. And it is also by far the worst gym I have been to.
Negative experience: I used to be a member of this gym. So many issues with it. Including some members of staff that were rude and have no clear understanding of their own policies and following the law. Health & safety issues. Safeguarding issues. Even if rectified I wouldn't rejoin based on this because they took away my rights as a woman. I do not want to pay their wages with my money ever.
Negative experience: Really loved my time at this gym. However it was cancelling my membership that was the issue. A lady at the reception told me that memberships can be backdated so I don’t need to worry about being charged for a month I’m not using the gym. I ended up being charged despite making the person in my corresponding emails aware that I’d been told I wouldn’t have to pay, I was then told that the contract says if I don’t cancel two weeks prior to the my payment date, I have to pay for the month ahead! I understand this policy but being told one thing and then another is frustrating.
Positive experience: The padding on the resistance machines is ripping, water dripping from the ceiling, air con doesn’t always work, very little weight plates to use. Changing rooms aren’t the cleanest always. Does the job tho staff are friendly has a decent pool and steam room.
Negative experience: If I could rate this gym zero stars, I would. I’ve been to a few amount of gyms, and by far this is the worst one I have ever signed up to. To begin with, the gym is absolutely vile with the toilets being clogged up by human faeces or the flush of the toilet not working properly. The equipment is always broken, making it insufferably hard to work out when there’s nothing left to use. The water pipes are disgusting, or ironically also not working. The pool area… don’t get me started - it’s filled with filth on the floor that it’s almost like an obstacle course on trying not to touch the hair and spit. The staff at the reception are kind. However, I had an unforeseen circumstances with work and had to be in another country for a month. So I tried to freeze my membership 15 days before and they said I couldn’t as I have to ask to freeze a MONTH before. I understand it’s their TOS however I provided all the proof of my circumstance and still had to pay the month I wasn’t in England. I’m so glad I’m going to be done with this gym in a week. I can’t wait to never come back here.
Negative experience: Today the gym was like a sauna. The air conditioning wasn’t on at all, and it was so hot inside that it was hard to even breathe. For such a big and well-known gym, it’s unacceptable not to have the AC working. You clearly don’t care about members’ health or comfort. Everyone was struggling, and it was impossible to work out properly. You know how to take membership fees but can’t even provide basic ventilation. Very disappointing.
Negative experience: It was extremely hot in the gym today and they didn’t turn on the air conditioning. It was really uncomfortable to work out in this heat. For a gym of this size and brand, you would expect proper ventilation and climate control, especially during hot days. Management should pay more attention to the comfort and safety of their members.
Fantastic experience: 5 Stars – Great Experience at Everlast Gym Canterbury I visited Everlast Gym in Canterbury on a bank holiday Monday using their free trial, and I was really impressed. The facilities were excellent – the swimming pool and steam room were a real highlight, and the gym equipment was clean, modern, and well-maintained. I’d especially like to mention one of the staff members, Mel– her customer service was fantastic and really added to the positive experience. In fact, all the staff were friendly, helpful, and welcoming. Although I don’t live in Canterbury, if I did, I’d definitely sign up. The pricing is very affordable for what you get, and overall it was a great experience. Highly recommended!
Fantastic experience: Amazing gym. Everyone is so friendly no matter at what physical level you are at. Mind you it is imperative to book early for each class as they fill very quickly!
Negative experience: Good range of equipment but unfortunately when something breaks it takes far too long to be fixed, extremely frustrating and happens far too often for one of the more “expensive” gyms in Canterbury
Fantastic experience: Loving the pool at Canterbury Gym and it’s great that the steam room is now fixed and the extra bonus of being able to get a drink with a friend afterwards. Darius is great and always willing to help and sort any small issues definitely 5 stars ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Negative experience: Why do most people in the changing room and showers have no common decency and respect to cover up. I don’t want to come gym at all because of this. Do not come to this gym
Fantastic experience: I had a tour today with the lovely Yasmin….so helpful, knowledgable & friendly. I was made to feel very welcome and my tour was exceptional. I asked so many questions and every one of them was answered.I also spoke with Jack on reception they were really positive about their gym which is so well laid out and spacious. I went out of curiosity as Everlast are the new owners of the gym where I work.Fortunately it’s just confirmed what I hoped ….exciting times ahead
Fantastic experience: Loveee this gym, equipment is great, the staff are so friendly! Great facilities including showers, steam room and pool! There’s a lot of open space too. And it’s never too busy! I would definitely recommend, also the student subscription is very cheap too.
Fantastic experience: There was a false alarm “code red” today and the staff (jack and Sara) were extremely quick to respond and ran to the situation to help! Great staff and great gym
Positive experience: Been using for coming up for a year ,same they still haven't got steam room fixed could do with it in this cold weather
Negative experience: Only joined this gym purely on the fact that it had a sonar and steam room, Advertised, and the only in Canterbury. Sad. Since April 24, it has been going under upgrades. Joining the group as a Prime member has absolutely no benefits, I'm still waiting for customer service. Pure Gym down the road is cheaper without the expectations.
Negative experience: Have been a member here for 5+ years before it transitioned into Everlast. The gym has gone seriously down hill since it switched over to Everlast and I wouldn’t recommend it to anybody. Major problems: Showers are always extremely filthy, Steam room has been broken/out of order for 4+ months with no sign of it being re opened soon, Jacuzzi’s have been completely removed, the gym is very small and is always busy so be prepared to be waiting and sharing equipment a lot, the “swimming pool” is tiny and is more like a spa pool, it can probably fit around 5/6 people actually swimming at maximum and is always busy/hard to find space to actually swim, lack of facilities and equipment in the locker rooms.
Fantastic experience: I have been assisted by Rebecca at the reception for an issue with my membership and she was very efficient and helpful. Gym equipments and facilities are very well maintained.
Negative experience: Been a member here since it was DW. Very disappointed with how it’s run now though. Machines are always broken which means you can’t get access to the right equipment at busy times and the steam room has been out of order now for over 3 months! I pay more for this gym because of the pool and sauna and currently I’m not getting what I pay for. Also… I was overcharged for several months and have been waiting 2 months now to get my refund. Something needs to change before I look at moving to another gym.
Negative experience: I have been using this gym for 18 months but due to the steam room being out of action and the lack of information of when it will be fixed I will be leaving.
Negative experience: shame this place has gone so down hill over last few years, cost cutting too far now , lack of classes and steam room being shut for 4 months now not acceptable, have now cancelled my membership
Positive experience: Came here for the pool, so I don't know much about the gym itself. The pool was clean and the staff was very helpful. There are some minor issues like the toilets missing locks or the steam room not working, but other than that all is good.
Negative experience: Awful. Most of the machines are broken. No steam room for the last 4 to 5 months. When asked they said it will be repaired soon. Luckily my membership is coming to an end.
Negative experience: I must say after paying for a full year’s membership upfront I’m extremely disappointed with this gym. I signed up due to there being a steam room for use at the gym and after around a month of being a member it’s been shut now for around 4/5 months and I’ve called in once every week to get some clarification and it’s a constant cycle of excuses and different scenarios. I’ve also requested for a regional manager for a call back and have yet to have any contact what’s so ever so I will now begin the process of looking for a refund as the services I and many people have payed for have not been met. I’d advise staying away from this gym until the management can get there act together here and also render the issue of how it treats its members when there’s a valid issue.
Negative experience: Not recommend It’s absolutely wasting your money and time, the steam room it’s not working for 2 months now the places is dirty
Fantastic experience: Nico and teams are always very kind and helpful. Love the place and the deals
Fantastic experience: I would like to dedicate this review to PT Laurence. He was my trainer one year ago, but I had to stop taking classes because I had to change cities. He taught me a healthy lifestyle, which is a combination of meal prepping, tracking calories, and performing efficient and safe workouts. These lessons helped me achieve a consistent diet and workout routine even while being miles away from Canterbury. If you are like me, in your early thirties, and willing to make healthy choices and stay away from takeaways with long-lasting effects, then that's the man you should get in contact with. Regarding Everlast, it’s a very lovely, well-equipped gym with a fairly priced membership.
Positive experience: Be careful with parking, don't stay for more than two hours, you'll get a fine.
Negative experience: Got turned away 40 minutes before they closed, as apparently last entry was 5 minutes before we got there. 40 minutes is enough time to do a full workout and there is nothing to suggest they have a last entrance time. That is very odd for a gym to have last entry time, especially 45 minutes before closing. Fair enough if it was 10-15 minutes before but 45 minutes before is ridiculous and not a nice way to treat members who are paying a lot for it. The receptionist was very rude and stern about this last entrance time. We are debating moving gyms, as this is ridiculous and ruined our day.
Fantastic experience: Best gym, lovely infraestrutura and great personnel.
Negative experience: Cancelled subscription as am sick of the poor hygeine. People spitting and snotting everywhere around pool and steam room, green slime and missing tiles in steam room, bring flip flops incase you slice your toe on something razor sharp on the floor like i did! A huge green wad of lung-butter floating around the pool was my final straw. The fact that they are now offering £5 monthly subscriptions (while others like myself still pay 6× that amount) means the place is used as a doss-house for aged-infants who like to spit and snot around the pool and just hang about getting in the way, not taking their fitness seriously, it's more of a youth club or day care centre than a gym. I'm not saying that all the new £5 people are like this, but it has lowered the bar of clientel and i refuse to pay for it now.
Negative experience: Not recommended, the pool is the most disgusting thing you will find. It's getting worse and worse and the staff doesn't care. Not a hygienic place. It used to be much better but it's getting worse and worse and disgusting. People spitting in the pool or bathrooms... I go to relax in the sauna or pool but there is no control at all, no cleanliness... absolutely not recommended!
Fantastic experience: Evans cycles... Soo coool
Negative experience: Been trying to cancel my membership for a couple days now.. they keep refusing.. the reason I need to cancel is because I am self employed and as we all know work is very shy atm with cost of living.. I have children to look after and a gym membership isn’t my top priority and I can’t afford it.. they ask for evidence but don’t provide me with what evidence they want.. surely the cost of living is evidence enough… when I first signed the membership I could afford it and due to unforeseen circumstances I can no longer do so.. I started gym to better my mental health.. which it did.. but now I wish I never did.. it’s embarrassing enough to admit you can’t afford something but having to argue daily is a complete joke.. please never use this gym.. there are plenty other gyms with compassion and empathy for there gym goers.. this company couldn’t care less
Fantastic experience: I love that place. Its full of training equipment
Positive experience: Good gym, good price for poole and sauna, good environment! 4 star cause of the opening time, brah they close too early on weekends
Fantastic experience: Joy for 12 years
Fantastic experience: Been a member for about 6 months. Mainly use the pool and steam room at present. Steam room now produces good amount of steam since steam generators were replaced. A deep clean and tidy up of mastic edges wouldn't go amiss.
Positive experience: Friendly place with a wide variety of machines.
Positive experience: Recently joined this gym and am enjoying it so far! Swimming pool is well kept and the changing rooms are always tidy and clean. Some of the gym equiptment does look a bit dated but it does all still do the job. I have yet to experience a class, it's typical the one I have booked onto has been cancelled twice now haha! They have a little cafe attached to the gym with has some really nice protien shakes, Staff in the cafe can somtimes be a bit miserable but others are really friendly and attentive it can be very 50/50.
Positive experience: Tbh i prefer having the gym to be open 24 hours or at least till midnight instead of 10
Negative experience: Not been in a year can't get out of contract noone checks why you haven't been ...might as well work out at home .
Positive experience: My go to gym for swimming and working out. Wish I could go more. Haha
Positive experience: Pool was excellent and great temperature. Good changing room facilities, although do need some maintenance. Steam room has issues. I would be careful as it is a risk area for catching a virus due to temperature problems. You can get mixed experiences with staff members. Warning do not get the 1 month pass, that is not 1 month. If you do, you need to get in writing on email from staff member about when you can action cancellation by email and when that would take affect. Then expect a lengthy interaction, even with proof, to get it officially cancelled and not be charged extra to your account. I even had to get an official advocate on my side. Really poor legal contract skills, that need to be addressed. After going through all this my membership hasn't worked on app to be able to get an online daypass. So just have to pay at till each time.
Fantastic experience: Very good , very nice.
Positive experience: Great gym. Staff come across as elitist which can make it feel unwelcoming. But that's most gyms I've been to. Maybe gyms just attract people who come across that they think they're better than you to work there, but this gym seem to have it as a requirement.
Negative experience: Jacuzzi now shut, sauna shut, steam room out of order, new family swimming times make it a nightmare to use the pool and facilities during the day. Very disappointing after being a great facility for years
Fantastic experience: I had a blast. Nice, clean and modern
Positive experience: Friendly Staff and Class Instructors. If you are looking for a lively gym with great equipment and various classes in Canterbury, I would definitely recommend Everlast.
Fantastic experience: Best gym and loveliest staff
Fantastic experience: Perfect!
Fantastic experience: Great gym for all Occasion
Positive experience: Friendly, helpful staff. Good price. Well situated near town and amenities. Excellent facilities. Appear to be upgrading their line of products and customer feedback in house. Trainers seem effective and professional with good relationships with members. Extra facility upstairs for martial arts. Only downside is reasonably frequent issues with hot water but hopefully this is resolved more permanently.
Fantastic experience: This is just a question do you guys have punching/kick-boxing bags since I haven’t seen any in the pictures and I have went to the gym yet
Negative experience: Emailed Everlast as to give 1 month notice but they still stole money from account, highly unproffesional! Very dissapointed with Head office and stuff in general!
Positive experience: Staff are very friendly and helpful. Good range of equipment and I really like the classes.
Fantastic experience: Lovely swimming facilities. Great disabled access and shower changing rooms.
Fantastic experience: Great place for training. Plenty of space and equipment
Negative experience: THURSDAY 30TH MARCH NO HOT WATER FOR SHOWERS YET AGAIN. IN THERE WISDEM AGAIN PUT A STICKER DOWN BY THE TURNSTILE NOT ON TOP. OVERSLEY TO MUCH TROUBLE TO PUT ONE ON THE ACTUAL DOOR YOU WALK THROUGH TO THE RECEPTION DESK.
Negative experience: Standard slipping year on year sadly, I’ve been a member for 10’years now and sorry to say but Everlast (previously DW) is losing its standards. Boiler problems on/ off - resulting in a very cold swim then following freezing cold shower! Steam room disgusting- never gets a good clean. Stinks. Run down. Jacuzzis removed and covered over with timber painted black with cheap loungers placed over them. The stench underneath is disgusting- reported it many times but nothing gets done. Showers dirty - cleaner never seen! Just terrible really. Everlast happy to charge me £35 monthly but they don’t care about the customers experience. Staff on reception not bothered either. So no don’t come here - go to Bannatyne instead
Negative experience: I have been a member of this gym for a good few years and its the worst its ever been and time to move. Receptionist always on phone and does not acknowledge anymore. Gym is not as clean as it used to be. Also as you walk in the door there is a sign saying student pay £5 for 3 months. You walk past it everyday. Just makes you feel like you are being ripped of.
Fantastic experience: Great gym has no students. It's a great workout, you use the sauna and swimming pool. Monthly card 30 per month.
Fantastic experience: Brilliant and helpful staff, huge gym full of equipment and a lovely pool.Recommended to all my friends and family.
Fantastic experience: Lovely place if you have things on your head such lovely people in there kind staff
Fantastic experience: Really friendly and helpful staff at reception, with a gentleman even spotting me benching on occasions. Facilities are always kept really clean and a good variety of machines and free weights. The steam room and pool are a lovely touch too - really good value for all the added extras.
Fantastic experience: I love this gym. The staff are very friendly, the instructors are excellent, the classes are fun and varied, all the facilities, including the changing rooms are fantastic and it has a lovely swimming pool and a spacious steam room. I highly recommend it.
Positive experience: Currently about six of the treadmills not working at busy times can be an issue
Fantastic experience: It's a lovely place to spend time relaxing. The swimming pool is the best, the water is clear and warm, perfect for swimming. The classes are wonderfull too, my "happy hour" is Zumba. The staff are great too. Many thanks to James, as he kindly helped me when I need help
Fantastic experience: Great gym, facilities are 10/10 very well looked after. Would 100% recommend
Fantastic experience: Great place.
Positive experience: I have been asisted by Lawrence the personal trainer, very unprofesional, only care is about money, otherwise the gym is really nice.
Fantastic experience: Great pool and steam room facilities.
Fantastic experience: Great facilities, friendly staff
Fantastic experience: Great place to work out. Very friendly staff. Great facilities. My safe place. Love it.
Fantastic experience: Great staff, always happy to help. Amazing swimming pool; crystal clear and warm. Steam room is great for muscles after a work out. Great class selection too!
Fantastic experience: Great
Fantastic experience: Lovely staff ! I go there only for pool , and it's awesome, clean and nice ! Go for students membership
Fantastic experience: My favourite gym in canterbury. Lovely staff always happy to help you out. 10/10
Negative experience: The service is getting worse and worse. The shower zone is often dirty and without shower gel
Negative experience: After the pandemic I think the gym has gone downhill a little..cardio machines need updating they have lost the jacuzzi which everyone enjoyed and water fountain near the steam room has been removed. Men's changing room and toilets looking dated and dirty..
Fantastic experience: Very clean, high standard. Friendly staff. Highly recommend
Negative experience: I was a member when this gym originally opened as a DW Fitness, and it was great. I signed up again recently, hoping to enjoy the same facilities and have been disappointed. The gym facilities are really tired. Equipment that hasn't been maintained (or cleaned) for years. The interior walls have all been painted black and half of the lights are switched off, which makes it really gloomy. The pool facilities used to be great, but they are now as poorly maintained as the rest of the place. The steam room smells of stagnant water and the hot tubs have been removed. For balance, the staff I have seen have been friendly and generally apologetic about the state of the place. I'm glad I only paid for a month!
Negative experience: I use to be a member of this gym when it was DW. Paying £40-50 a month it was in the higher range of gym in Canterbury at the time (around 5 years ago), having better machines and equipment than PureGym and with facilities such as the pool and sauna I felt the price was worth it. Visiting last month on a free day pass I walked into the gym and literally nothing has changed, apart from the staff getting ruder. All the equipment is the same, a lot of it still boasting the DW logo. Most machines now have surface rust and look tired. Both hot tubs were also empty and looked like they had been for quite a while, along with the changing room decor desperately needing redecorating. It’s a shame as being the only gym in Canterbury with a swimming pool and sauna it has potential to attract. Hopefully it’ll have a much needed make over
Positive experience: Would be better if Les Mills were re started. Fewer members would leave
Positive experience: Good facilities but not the best customer service.
Negative experience: Claims to be a slightly higher end gym but this does not materialise. The only thing that sets it apart from a Puregym is a pool/steamroom/jacuzzi, but as the latter are out of order half the time I don’t see the need to pay £20 a month extra over other gyms. As a woman working out you’ll also constantly be interrupted by PTs giving you ‘helpful tips’. I went swimming a handful of times, once a plaster was floating about, the other two times it was incredibly crowded to the point you couldn’t really swim. The online portal doesn’t generally work, and it makes it impossible to even cancel a monthly membership. Head Office will never reply, and then blame you for not ‘getting in contact in time to cancel your membership ‘ even if you emailed their listed email address over a month ago. Two stars as parking is always available.
Fantastic experience: Ask for Mark Bailey Coaching... best PT in Kent.
Fantastic experience: Good facilities and service.
Fantastic experience: Outstanding... Top quality ✨✨
Positive experience: Everlast Gym is very appealing.Clean and spacious.Well placed various gym equpment. Versetile; good number of classes , pool ,steam room, jacuzzi ..and coffee shop to rest after workout with lovely cup of great coffee they serve. What more do you need or want?! If you have a question there are always number of.knowledgable and helpful staff.to answer them. I find it relaxing and enjoyable every sngle time Nina
Fantastic experience: I've used the pool and steam room. Beautiful pool and a lovely spacious steam room. I thoroughly enjoyed my visit. The showers and changing facilities (pool area) are super !
Negative experience: No one wearing masks when entering alarming
Fantastic experience: Great atmosphere, helpful staff, well equipped clean and tidy
Fantastic experience: Nice gym and swimming pool steam room
Fantastic experience: Always makes me feel better
Negative experience: There are very few hygiene measures in place to safeguard against Covid. When it reopened last July, nobody was following the rules about cleaning equipment and nothing was done to enforce this. If you ever need assistance with membership, at the branch, they will always claim only Head office can help. Head office are basically un-contactable. So you just need to put up with any issues you have until your membership expires and you sign up to a better gym.
