Everlast Gyms - Burton Upon Trent

Positive experience: Great gym, favourite gym so far out of the 4 gyms I’ve been to. Only problem is right now there doesn’t seem to be enough “Carabiners”, if that’s what they’re called. There’s like at least 2 missing.

Positive experience: The equipment and the pool is great however... I am trying to understand... why everything is in black? It looks really dismal and depressing... please introduce some colours... at least some colourful lightening... plants could be helpful as well... in my opinion, this environment is not really motivating at the moment.

Fantastic experience: Great gym in the town for those wanting to swim on a budget. The pool area has low lighting and is very welcoming for beginners. They also have 2 jacuzzis and a big steam room. The studio upstairs is nice and big, and the instructors are good. The gym has lots of machine and free weight, plus loads of cardio. The big free car park for 4 hours is also very useful for popping into town before or after the gym.

Positive experience: The refurbishment is generally a great improvement, especially around the pool and showers but the sustained loud music throughout destroys any chance of relaxation after exercise or stress. What a pity. I’m going for a swim, not a night out in a disco.

Negative experience: Three women came into my work place about 4 weeks ago asking if I’d be interested in joining the gym as they’re in the process in having a refit and they were offering a weeks free pass. Gave my contact number and email address as I was already contemplating joining a gym, I was told someone would be in touch. I’ve since emailed them as I’ve heard nothing and surprise surprise no one has bothered to get back to me! Clearly despite just reopening they don’t need my business. So I’ll take it elsewhere! What’s the point in canvassing for members if you’re going to bother following it up!

Positive experience: Only used the pool. It certainly didn't feel like a standard 25m pool, and there are no markings to tell you when you're about to reach the wall. The pool is very much tacked on (I presume due to space limitations). When I went, there were no lanes but swimming around people wasn't too much of an issue. The atmosphere is quite nice with the dimmed lighting, and the pool temperature was a nice warm. Overall this pool is pleasant, but for regular fitness swimming I wouldn't say it's particularly well equipped.

Negative experience: Opening times changed on Monday and Tuesday from 10 am to 18. What about peak time?Peak time membership price still the same

Positive experience: Quiet and well equipped. Good functional fitness equipment including a lifting platform and olympic plates. Changing rooms need a refit. The showers are not great but the pool and steam room are very nice.

Negative experience: If you’re considering viewing this gym, DON’T. Went to view this gym with my partner and we had to complete a fire safety form. To be expected. However since putting my details on the form we have both been spam called by them daily by random numbers, flurry of emails as they have used our details from a fire safety form and pushed them onto god knows who!

Negative experience: Utterly rubbish. Joined for the pool only. Been a member for close to 2 months, coming twice a week, and I can honestly say the pool has maybe been "warm" three times. It was closed the second week of being a member because the boiler went. Took over a week for it to reopen. Was open for a few weeks but it's often freezing cold. Then it's blown again for close to a week. There is no warning or contacting members. Just show up to swim, to find out it's closed. Now it is open, it's so cold. Don't even know what we're paying. £40 a month for. Heating is not one of the things.

Fantastic experience: The gym itself is fantastic. Well spaced out, good mood lighting. Lots of parking. Good selection of weights. Staff are pretty helpful. Changing rooms and showers are good. Nice pool and good sauna. The running machines are pretty dated and could do with updating. It’s £40 a month if you pay month by month, or £30 if you commit to 12 months. They sell protein shakes and energy drinks there too, and have a coffee machine and also a seating area. The few times I went there it was really hot inside. I’m told they had air con issues.

Fantastic experience: Joined today had a great introductory visit with Marius who could not have been more patient and understanding.He took the time to find out what me and my wife were looking to achieve we are both over 60 and felt very comfortable .The gym has everything we need and for my wife the classes and the pool are a big draw for her .Would definitely recommend a visit and a chat .

Negative experience: Everywhere mould in swimming pool, in showers. Cracks. Walls dirty and damaged. Ceiling in swimming pool with big hole. Jacuzzi removed. Very cold in the shower, from conditioner all the time going cold air. Complained but they do not do nothing. Do not recommend to go there for swimming. About gym I cannot to say nothing because just used swimming pool.

Positive experience: This is still a gym that is good value for money. Most of the staff are friendly and helpful, so I would give them personally 5 stars! I want to give a shout out to Marius as he goes over and above in his job roll. He spent ages trying to sort my new Everlast app out and I've seen him assist other customers with the same kind of help! There still needs to be some improvements with the air-conditioning in the gym as it can get quite warm up by the running machines! Cheers Nigel

Negative experience: Dirty dated and not great experience at all. Changing rooms are cold and showers absolutely smell disgusting, never any shower gel and the mens changing are absolutely disgusting beyond words.

Positive experience: Has a good selection of machines had everything I needed and some good classes to the staff were mostly friendly except the 1 manager she always seemed to have a problem with me. I left as there was a female in the male changing room and toilet whilst people were getting changed. Multiple members complained but nothing was done. What would happen if a male went into the females. Worst of all she wasn't a member open week.

Fantastic experience: Paying the extra several pound a month compared with other local gyms is worth it for the specialised equipment (if you use it) and hot tub/steam room facilities (which I use) Most of the staff are super friendly, even helpful.

Positive experience: Great place to workout Just find the changing rooms a bit run down. The pool area is good early mornings but afternoon and weekends full of kids.

Positive experience: It definitely isn't a bad gym, at the times that I visit it's always plenty of equipment, so you are not waiting in line to use the machines or free weight area. I saw it gets busier in the evenings just like any other gym. Only couple of things that could be improved.. one is air conditioning, as it gets really hot especially if you are doing cardio, even during summer days air con was off. And second is the classes, the room upstairs was perfect for all the classes enough space for everyone, separate from other gym members, part of me why I stopped the classes is due to other people just watching how the group works out and makes me feel uncomfortable. Talking about classes the spin class still has it's own room and the trainer Karen is amazing, absolutely worth to go to her classes, they are not easy but you feel so good after!

Fantastic experience: Gym for the price is probably most cost efficient in town 30£/month with having decent sized gym with all the machines you need and spa area with the pool,jacuzzi's and steam room.Perfect for your workouts.They have their designated coaches as well so they are able to help you out with the training plan,meal plan or martial arts training.Staff is very friendly and helpful as well.The only personal downside is 1 benchpress and during peak hours it can get really busy,but even then for the money its great 5* A+++.

Positive experience: I've been going for a while and as of now its a great gym, Equipment is nice and smooth going, most of the people going are nice and staff are good, however some parts of the gym are filthy, near the leg area I've always noticed Trash behind the seats, cans and tissues etc, you can also see it along where the treadmills are, some lockers are broken in some areas where the only thing locking it up is metal linking with plywood. Good gym overall yet has litter issues and locker issues.

Positive experience: Classes got cancelled need re doing half the treadmill do not work

Fantastic experience: Having to travel to Burton as the branch in Derby the jacuzzi has been broken for years and the steam room hardly ever works. And lighting is so bright it's unbelievable. Really good management at the Burton branch. Thank you.

Fantastic experience: Brought trainners for my twins for school

Positive experience: Update August 2023 Have now left this gym due to the number and behaviour of the teenagers they admit who are below 18. 14 to 16 year olds allowed to mess around - the final straw was when a group of them played football in the main gym and no staff intervened! It's obvious the staff can't be bothered to police the place properly. Have moved to a gym that is not only an adult space but kept clean with no nasty smells in the changing room/showers. This gym could get 5 stars if it tried a little harder! The gym - a fair selection of machines and weights though they are a little on the old side but they work. The pool - surprising warm and a decent size with spa pool next to it and steam room. So the drawbacks . . . One thing you will notice is how many people (mainly boys) are members under 18 - apparently the minimum age to be a member unsupervised has been lowered to 14 - these are normally the ones mucking around in the pool so it would be good if the pool rules were enforced or these kids thrown out permanently as it does get on your nerves when you're trying to swim and they're messing around. The changing rooms - it would be nice if the cleaner invested in some bleach as it's badly needed! Some of the smells coming from the showers knock you back - then there are the showers - open plan (so not for the shy) but they hardly give out enough water to fill a kettle let alone provide a decent shower. Given there's a swimming pool there is no swimwear spin dryer! The other thing you notice about the gym is that there are no windows in the gym or pool, so you do tend to feel a bit enclosed! The upside is that it's a decent price (£30 a month) - the downside is that it's neglected.

Positive experience: Decent gym, it would be nice if people put stuff away when they're done but that's pretty standard at chain gyms. Be warned that there is a prison feel to the showers but I'd go back again if in that neck of the woods.

Negative experience: Disgusting how there allowing 14 year olds to join a gym with a bank card and then signing them up to a contract with out parents consent don’t do a induction don’t keep an eye on them in the gym then charging some kids £24 a month and others £30 a month clearly on website says min age 16 for students but charging 14 year olds more staff have no idea and just let the kids use what ever free weights they want

Fantastic experience: Decent calm environment to concentrate. Musics there but loud as hell so you can’t talk.

Negative experience: DIRTY - I have used this gym on and off since it first opened as JJB. The floors in the changing rooms are so dirty that my feet are black after a few steps. You can see that the floor tiles around the edge are a different colour to the ones in the middle. I always wear flip flops now. A thorough deep clean is needed throughout. There used to always be a cleaner around the place, but never anymore. Plenty of staff just standing around chatting however… Floors are always soaking wet as there is nowhere to spin wet swimwear. Aside from that, there are always issues - pool regularly cold, lights in changing rooms not working, showers cold, heating in changing room not working etc and nothing gets fixed in a rush. It’s such as shame, as with the right management and some care it could be a brilliant place to go, but it just gets worse.

Positive experience: It's a good place to keep fit

Negative experience: I write this review as I am disappointed with the facilities and hygiene of the premises, I have spoken to the management on a number of occasions but nothing has been done to improve the situation. Exercise machines have been broken for 6 weeks and no repairs, hygiene has deteriorated, condensation on the ceiling around air-con vents, in general the facilities have deteriorated and no one has taken responsibility to fix it, l have been using this gym for a long time and I am highly disappointed.

Positive experience: The staff here are lovely, the equipment is ok and the floor space is great. Changing rooms need some tlc as the lockers are lacking quality. All in all the facilities are reasonable for the price. I have left this gym recently due to the music be far too loud. I've been there several times now where I can't even hear my own music in my personal earbuds!! I think they need an ethos to work around because the music is generally too loud a lot of the time and it's usually a member of the public's music!?! I'm sure a lot of people don't actually want to listen to DJ Sammy or some random drum base mix at a high volume. I also don't want to have my earbuds too loud as that's damaging to my ears.

Fantastic experience: This is a great gym with a good community feel to it. Lots of different characters, ages and abilities which gives a relaxed atmosphere. The staff are really friendly and happy to answer any questions. Great value for money too!

Negative experience: The gym felt empty. I managed 4 days then exercised my 14day cancellation clause. There was a lot of space that could be used for new equipment. The gym had the basic equipment but was missing a lot of the usual things you'd find in most gyms. Issues with some of the lockers not closing properly but the biggest put off was the amount of water I always found on the changing room floors. It just gave it an unclean feeling.

Negative experience: Awful gym, the staff there are terrible, especially the ugly one at the main desk that looks like grinch, kicked us out for literally nothing, I can tell that grinch looking whatever she is never liked us anyways due to our skin colour, always gave us dirty looks Every time we walked past. Negative experience: Been going to this gym a few months and I never had a problem since this week. The first reason why I was haveing a joke in the mens bathroom and the manager or staff I’m not sure of her position anyways she walked in wile I was naked and I tryed to tell her you can’t do that but she replied with if you don’t stop I’ll walk in there probably and I’m sure you can’t do that . Second reason is that I was walking in out of the door few times and the same person said if you walk out again you will stay out not just me but to my mate I thought I was aloud to do that considering I have a membership at this gym. The rest of the staff is A OK

Negative experience: Terrible customer service, they are always bored and act like you disturb them when you enter gym. No enthusiasm whatsoever. The steam room not working for 2 months now, you never find a working locker, one of the two spa always closed, leg press not working for 2 months. People not taking shower before entering jacuzzi or swimming pool. An overall feeling of frustration, that's why it's nearly empty.

Positive experience: Negatives: Majority of lockers are broken. Changing room floor is soaking wet. Hot tub and steam room could be improved as not always working properly or is shut, some of its defining features! Postives: The free weights and gym equipment still feels new and varied so pretty good. Swimming pool and hot tub when available. More people use this than the gym and its not very big so timing is essential. Opinion: If you're only after the weights / gym there's cheaper alternatives in the area. If you're after that bit more, ie pool, hot tub, steam room then yeah here is OK as long as its not busy and working. Definitely needs some investment in the changing rooms / facilities.

Positive experience: I visited here on 3 ocassions in the last few days, and the facilities here are actually very good. I enjoyed the swimming pool and the gym, which is very spacious and has a extensive range of gym equipment. The only issues I have is how expensive it is for a day session, and how the company prefers an annual payment. And if you want to pay monthly, you have to pay £10 more per month. I also experienced a staff member explaining the cost process slightly differently, but in general, the payments/cost process is complicated, expensive and off putting. However, if you have the money to pay for the whole year, the actual cost is less than £1 per day, but £360 is alot for some people, and I can see why more people don't use this venue. But on summary, it's a great venue, and its good fun.

Fantastic experience: Joined here at the start of the month, I had no idea how to use any of the equipment so a male trainer shown me how to use all the equipment and told me which would be best to train the things I wanted and gave me tips. The place is clean and tidy. Im yet to try out the pool and the jacuzzis.

Positive experience: Price is good for gym and swim. Showers are awful and changing rooms could do with updating but plenty of variety and number of machines and equipment.
