The Aberdeen Altens Hotel: Opinions
Fantastic experience: Stayed here whilst visiting family at Christmas. Wanted somewhere quiet, but accepted that with all the Christmas parties going on, this may not be possible. Had a great night's sleep and a great breakfast. Approx £4 to park overnight. It's on our list of 'easy places to stay' whenever we visit. Would recommend
Thank you for your lovely feedback. We are pleased you enjoyed a peaceful stay, a great night’s sleep and breakfast. It is wonderful to hear we are now one of your go-to places to stay when visiting family. We truly appreciate your recommendation.
Positive experience: Lovely venue for any party, rooms are fine, renewing carpets would put the stars up a notch.
Thank you, Elizabeth, for your thoughtful review. We’re delighted you enjoyed the quiet location, safety, and tasty meal. We appreciate your suggestion about renewing the carpets and will take it on board. Hope to welcome you back soon.

Fantastic experience: Nice hotel, pleasant and helpful staff.
Thank you for a 5 star review Mat. Hope to see you with us again soon.
Fantastic experience: Family of 2+1. Stayed for one night only. Room was clean and HUGE for the price. Staff was unbelievably welcoming and friendly. Swimming pool guy really helpful. Food was really good. Asked for a drink out of the menu. "We've got ingredients. We"ll make it for you." Absolutely amazing experience. Will be back just for the service :)
Thank you for the fantastic review! We’re thrilled your family enjoyed the spacious room, great food, and friendly service. Your kind words about our team mean a lot, and we’re glad we could make your stay special, right down to the custom drink.
We look forward to welcoming you back!
Fantastic experience: An old hotel...but the working people there and their level, of everything...their kindness and service...make the hotel...new one, an excellent one.
We thank you so much for a great review.
Negative experience: I hereby submit an official complaint regarding the exceptionally unprofessional and unjustified treatment I experienced from the staff of your hotel during the night of 21/11] to [22/11]. At approximately 1:30 a.m., without any prior warning, I was denied access to my room — my key card was deactivated, preventing me from entering the room and accessing my personal belongings. What makes this situation even more unacceptable is the fact that it occurred while I am pregnant, exposing me to significant stress and discomfort. When I requested assistance, I was informed by the staff that based on the “remnants” found on the desk in the room, they concluded that it was marijuana. Despite my explanations that it was not any illegal substance, the hotel staff refused to listen to me, and the decision to remove me from the room immediately was upheld. I would like to strongly emphasize that: • the room was kept in impeccable condition, • there was no smell that could indicate the presence of marijuana, • the items that raised suspicion were white sage purchased at a Christmas market and legal, medicinal CBD. Such serious accusations, made without any proper verification, followed by my removal from the hotel in the middle of the night, are outrageous and unacceptable. I was treated in a humiliating manner, subjected to stress, put at risk, and caused significant emotional distress — all the more so because I am pregnant.
Dear Kasia,
Thank you for sharing your feedback. We are sorry for the distress this incident caused you. Please know that our team is required to follow established safety and property policies when concerns arise, but we understand that the situation was upsetting for you and that you disagree with how it was handled.
We take your allegations seriously and will review the actions of our staff to ensure procedures were followed appropriately and respectfully.
Thank you for bringing this to our attention.

Negative experience: I had a very disappointing experience with this hotel. Due to a sudden health issue during my business trip, I had to rebook the same hotel later that day. My company covered the stay, and I was assured by the staff that the first payment would be refunded within five days. Unfortunately, it has now been almost three months, and I have not received any refund or proper follow-up despite providing all my contact details and repeatedly reaching out. The front desk staff and even the managers gave conflicting and misleading information throughout the process. This experience has been extremely frustrating and unprofessional. I strongly advise future guests to be very cautious when dealing with payment or refund matters at this property. I truly hope the management addresses these issues seriously to restore trust with their customers.
Dear Atilla,
As outlined in our previous correspondence, our position has remained consistent. Regrettably, a refund is not applicable in this case, as the terms of your booking clearly state that cancellations must be made before 2:00 PM on the day of arrival.
Our team advised at the time that, for a refund to be considered, the rebooking by your company would need to be completed before that 2:00 PM cut-off. Unfortunately, the rebooking was made at 15:55, which fell outside this timeframe. As such, the original booking terms remained in effect.
If you are "frustrated" I would suggest raising this with your company directly, as they handled the rebooking process and failed to book in time. The team made it very clear that the deadline was 2pm.
I hope this clarifies our position, and I appreciate you taking the time to share your concerns.

Negative experience: Hate having to put a bad review on here because the rooms and the facilities were actually pretty good value for money. However my partner used the hairdryer in the room and it was damaged, while using it, a piece of plastic came out it and hit her in the face. I reported this to the front desk and asked for a new hairdryer as my partner still had wet hair from the pool ( a reasonable request) and was told the duty manager would sort it out. Safe to say that night past and we heard nothing from no one. Then when checking out I complained to the manager at the front desk who could not have cared less. I was told to email the reception the picture and video I had taken (see attached) so a more senior manager could see it, I did this straight away and more than a week later no apology received or answer to my email. UPDATE - NO UPDATE TO MY COMPLAINT , BUT CAN UPDATE OTHERS REVIEWS, AVOID THIS PLACE LIKE THE PLAGUE
Dear Taylor Strang,
Thank you for sharing your feedback following your stay at The Aberdeen Altens Hotel. I’m sincerely sorry to hear that your partner experienced a safety issue with the hairdryer, and that this was not resolved promptly or handled to your satisfaction.
Please allow me to reassure you that I will immediately escalate this to our maintenance and housekeeping teams, and I will ask our guest relations or senior management to review your email (with photo and video) and ensure you receive both a direct apology and a clear plan of action. Safety and guest comfort are top priorities for us.
In the meantime, if you would be willing to contact us at the hotel and provide your stay dates and room number (or any booking reference), I would appreciate the opportunity to make this right for you.
Thank you again for bringing this to our attention. It is only through hearing about issues like this that we can improve. I hope we may yet have the chance to restore your trust in our hotel.

Negative experience: I am still waiting for a refund after a payment was taken from card after being assured this was a deposit only and I would have the opportunity to pay with my company card on checkout. On check out the gentleman in reception was utterly incompetent and was unwilling to assist me in processing my refund then and there. I have since provided my details to the hotel but after repeated attempts to contact the hotel is unresponsive.
Dear Rory,
Thank you for your comments. To clarify, the amount you refer to was a standard pre-authorisation. This is a temporary hold placed by your bank when a card is presented at check-in to guarantee the booking and cover any incidental charges. It is not a charge from the hotel.
The pre-authorisation was approved by you, on your chosen card at check-in using your bank’s authorisation process. You selected which card to use for this purpose, so if the temporary hold of funds caused inconvenience, I’m afraid that responsibility lies with the cardholder rather than the hotel.
Once checkout is complete, the hold is automatically released by your bank. The timeframe for this varies depending on your card issuer, and we have no control over how quickly the funds become available again.
If you would like me to confirm the release status from our end, please contact me directly at [email protected]

Positive experience: Had a pleasant enough weekend stay here and while it’s starting to feel a little dated in places would consider again. The room was a good enough size but great that two armchairs were present. There’s no electric sockets next to the bed but there is plenty of storage and the TV was a good size. Air-conditioning wasn’t the most effective but it was possible to open the window slightly. The bathroom was the most dated aspect but fortunately everything was clean. The hotel can get busy at times, which meant I wasn’t able to check out the restaurant since it was full, so bear this in mind given the limited alternative options nearby but otherwise it was comfortable and I’d recommend if the location works for you.
Dear Steve,
Thank you for taking the time to share such a detailed and balanced review of your stay at The Aberdeen Altens Hotel. We're glad to hear you had a pleasant weekend with us and appreciated the room size, seating, and cleanliness.
We're sorry the restaurant was fully booked during your visit. It can get quite busy at peak times, so we always recommend making a reservation in advance. We offer an online booking system for added convenience.
We appreciate your recommendation and hope to welcome you back again soon.

Negative experience: I booked a room at Aberdeen Altens Hotel on August 17 and was promised a refund after my company rebooked. Despite multiple emails and calls over 7 weeks, I’ve received no response and no refund. Completely unacceptable service and communication. I will be escalating this through consumer protection channels.
Thank you for bringing this to our attention. I’m very sorry to hear about your experience and completely understand your frustration. We have no record of a booking in this name. Please contact the hotel with a booking reference number.
Fantastic experience: Stopped after a work event, easy to find and room was great. Staff friendly, the restaurant was busy due to coach trip but it was fine just had a drink while waited as we had not booked. Pool facilities good.
Dear Catherine,
Thank you for taking the time to leave such a kind review. I'm really pleased to hear you found the hotel easy to reach, enjoyed your room, and felt well looked after by our team.
It's great to know you made the most of the pool facilities too, and I appreciate your patience with the restaurant during a busy evening. We’re always glad when guests choose to relax with a drink while waiting.
We hope to welcome you back to The Aberdeen Altens Hotel again soon.

Positive experience: I really big hotel with nice rooms. Very quiet even though it was full when I stayed. Restaurant hit and miss. The same 'special' seems to be on every night. Everything was covered in a sloppy oily buttery sauce. Fish was rock hard, no idea when it was cooked / reheated but a bit like yoghurt carpet. Disappointing gym was not loved (the only indoor rower was knackered) and sauna out of action for more than 1 day, surely this can be fixed quicker out of hours. Breakfast was shocking, so have this elsewhere. Cereal options nasty, tea and coffee from jugs which had been made a lot earlier. I was there at 6:30am and they were warm and old tasting. Maybe needed a good clean.. All bread products were hard to very hard (stale). Juice was cheap. Bread was sliced and very very cheap and felt like it was from village shop or budget supermarket. @ £131 per night, I expect quality food. Who is chosing the soap products kale shampoo, parsley soap and chai seed slop I smelt like minestrone soup
Dear Gregory,
Thank you for taking the time to share such detailed feedback about your stay at The Aberdeen Dyce Hotel. While I’m really pleased you found the rooms quiet and spacious, I’m genuinely sorry that several other aspects of your visit fell short.
We’ve recently invested heavily in our gym, extending the space and installing brand-new cardio equipment, so it’s disappointing to hear it didn’t meet your expectations. The sauna was temporarily out of service due to a replacement element being fitted, and I’m sorry for the inconvenience this caused during your stay.
We really appreciate your honesty and hope we’ll have the opportunity to give you a much better experience in the future.
Positive experience: Nice hotel, convenient location for us. Staff were excellent - welcoming and friendly. Delicious food (great variety and choices) and excellent service in the restaurant. The breakfasts were great too! Some of the decor was a little tired, but that didn't detract from our stay.
Dear Caitriona,

Positive experience: Nothing special. Rooms are clean although facilities are a bit outdated. Tiny TV and no great window views. Provided complementary items such as tooth brushs and napkins are bare although coffee and tea are provided. Breakfast is decent if you don't have any dietary requirements. Location is a bit remote but it serves it's purpose as a work hotel. Beautiful views by the shore though if you go for a walk or run. Gym is quite good although the pool looked too small and crowded to be a positive.

Fantastic experience: I stayed at this hotel with my kids for a night before heading to Dunnotar Castle. The rooms were spacious and clean, the swimming pool with sauna and steam room was fantastic. Negative experience: We were told we should have booked directly rather than through booking.com. The room was basic ( no fridge) with a cracked sink and tiles, and generally not as advertised. The pool was lovely, once we finally got a response after 30 minutes of calling to book our slot. Restaurant staff were helpful. We were able to easily catch a bus into town. Parking was extra for third party bookings!
Dear KathyEmm,
Thank you for your feedback. I’m sorry your stay didn’t meet expectations, especially regarding the room condition and pool access. I’d also like to clarify there’s no issue at all with booking via a third party. It simply means parking isn’t included, and a small charge applies.
I’m pleased you enjoyed the restaurant and found the bus into the city convenient. Your comments are valued and will be shared with the team to help us improve.

Negative experience: Hotel is located very conveniently for getting in and out of city. The bar area was nice but we did not eat there. Paying for parking when the location is so far from city centre and not near any major venue is outrageous even at a discounted rate for guests. (£3 for each car and £6 if not a guest). Room was dated and beds were incredibly uncomfortable. No sockets on headboard side of room. Shower pressure was strong and unadjustable and the soap bottle in the shower had clearly been filled with water. Bar had a below par selection of spirits and one double Smirnoff and coke plus a single Jameson, bottle of ginger beer and a bottle of water was nearly £30. Only leaving review here as staff did not ask how room or stay was when checking out.
Thank you for your review. I’m glad you found our location convenient and enjoyed the quiet atmosphere and bar area. We appreciate your feedback and will take it on board as we work to improve the guest experience.

Positive experience: The hotel itself isn’t very modern. The rooms are quite dated & there was a slight musky smell in ours. That being said it did the job and was clean. Service upon arrival was friendly, however I found throughout the stay staff could’ve been more friendly and welcoming. For the price the location was good near to amenities & the town. The pool was great for our children.

Positive experience: Rooms were dated. Beds a bit naff. But OK for a night. Barman wasn't the most pleasant.
Thank you for sharing a review! Our beds are new Hypnos mattresses so its disappointing to hear they were not to your liking but we appreciate mattress comfort, is a personal preference. Will share your feedback with the bar team. Hope to welcome you back again soon.
Positive experience: Was easy to find with Google maps. Nearby shops and places to eat was within reach of the hotel, few minutes by car. Room was big and spacious, clean and had everything you needed. Beds were not very comfortable. The coffee machine in the room could not be used as there was no water to fill the tank and I was not using bathroom water. The bathroom could do with a fan for steam as the condensation is bad. The shower was excellent though. Reception staff friendly. The bar staff were rude, not welcoming, no friendly face and no politeness. Leisure club staff friendly, the lockers unfortunately are stressful you either can lock them with a code or not get them open maybe keys would be better option. The changing room smelled so bad and wood was rottening away. I think some upgrades are needed but was happy with the location.
Thank you for your feedback. I’m pleased you found the hotel easy to reach, enjoyed the spacious room, and were happy with the location and friendly reception and leisure staff. We’ll take your comments on board as we continue to improve our facilities and service.
Negative experience: I have visited Altens Hotel a handful of times, but I would say this time, I wasn’t at all impressed. I ordered for the Lamb madras- I should have just stuck to battered fish and chips. Starting with the lamb madras- it was full of whole peppercorns and believe me when I say it wasn’t homemade at all- it definitely tasted shop bought and warmed! The rice wasn’t tender The worst was the Naan- it was so dry and hard. I could barely eat the second one. I was very disappointed and I noticed the prices have drastically increased. I don’t think I will be coming back in awhile. Service was good.
Dear Aliyu Mariam
I am sorry to hear that the lamb madras was not to your liking. I can personally assure you it is made in-house by our kitchen team. I understand how disappointing it can be when a dish does not meet expectations, and if this happens again, please do let our team know at the time so we have the opportunity to put things right for you. It is always easier to resolve an issue at the time rather than finding out later in a review when it is too late to do anything.
From your photo, the peppers appear to be sliced rather than whole, which I think demonstrates it was made in house but I appreciate you sharing your feedback and will ensure it is reviewed with our chefs. With regard to pricing, I do appreciate your concern. Like many hospitality businesses, we have faced significant increases in ingredient and supplier costs, and although we review prices carefully, some adjustments have unfortunately been necessary.
I hope we might welcome you back in the future and provide a meal you truly enjoy.

Negative experience: Disappointing Experience – Would Not Recommend I stayed here during the first week of August, and unfortunately, the experience was extremely disappointing from start to finish. First, the address provided was incorrect, and Apple Maps took us to the wrong location. After a 5-hour journey, we found the contact number we had was switched off, leaving us completely stranded. The room was small, which we could overlook, but what we couldn’t ignore was the presence of bugs—one in the room and another in the bathroom. Cleanliness clearly wasn’t a priority. The staff were unfriendly, especially when we tried to book the swimming pool. We chose this hotel specifically for that amenity, but were repeatedly told it was "fully booked" every time we asked, despite trying on different days and times. What was most disheartening was the lack of warmth or inclusivity from both staff and some guests. As people of colour, it was disappointing and honestly surprising to feel this level of discomfort in 2025. Overall, this was one of the worst hotel experiences I’ve had. Poor communication, lack of hospitality, and an unfriendly environment made it a stay I wouldn’t recommend to anyone.
Dear garage 4u,
Thank you for taking the time to leave your feedback. I am sorry to hear your stay did not meet your expectations.
I would like to clarify that our address is correct as listed on our website. If you enter “The Aberdeen Altens Hotel” into your sat nav or Apple Maps, it will bring you directly to us. For added convenience, we also provide "What3Words" directions to make finding the hotel even easier. In addition to our 24/7 telephone line, we also provide email, WhatsApp, and Facebook Messenger as means of communicating with the team. Occasionally, there may be a short delay if team members are assisting other guests.
I am sorry to hear your room was not the right size for you. We offer a range of different room types to suit all needs, and if you require a larger room on a future visit, please select from the options available. We include photography so you can see what you are booking.
Regarding your comment about bugs, we take cleanliness seriously and all rooms are thoroughly cleaned before arrival. During the summer, if windows are left open, insects can occasionally enter. Welcome to summer in Scotland! This does not reflect our usual standards, and we would have been happy to move you to another room if you had made our Duty Manager aware.
Finally, I was very surprised to read your comments regarding inclusivity. Our team is diverse, with members from many different backgrounds, and we pride ourselves on creating a welcoming environment for all guests. While we cannot control the behaviour of other guests, we expect everyone to be treated with respect and courtesy at all times.
Thank you again for your feedback. If you wish to discuss your experience further, please contact me directly at the hotel.

Positive experience: The room was clean and cozy, the pool facilities were fantastic, my girl really enjoyed it as a treat for her birthday. The ‘Coast and Keg’ menu in my room drawer was outdated, the prices nor the meal list itself matched the menu we’ve gotten in the restaurant - a bit misleading.

Positive experience: Though it is an old edifice, the rooms were modern and clean The staff were polite and always ready to help and it's just a 15mins bus ride from the centre with a 4 mi item walk to the bus stop. You do have to pay for parking on site which is a shame for customers. I booked it cos of the pool and I was not disappointed. They also have a jacuzzi, a steam room and sauna, all free for hotel guests.
Dear Aminat Temitope,
Thank you for your kind review of The Aberdeen Altens Hotel. We’re so pleased to hear that you enjoyed our modern and clean rooms, as well as the leisure facilities; it’s great to know the pool, jacuzzi, steam room and sauna met your expectations.
Your comments about our helpful team and convenient location are truly appreciated. If you book direct with the hotel, parking is complimentary.
We hope to welcome you and your family back again soon.
Kind regards,

Positive experience: I’ve always loved coming to the Aberdeen Altens as a treat for my birthday in the past it’s filled my heart to enjoy a short stay here so I booked the executive suite and arrived at 2.30pm hoping I may get an early entry sadly no I had to wait in bar until 3pm that was my error not phoning in to ask for earlier entry on entry the room definitely did not feel executive ( I had upgraded as a treat) very dated and old fashioned the bath old with a shower overhead (small shower actually was good) but the bed was hard as nails not his I remembered itI tossed and turned all night I was so disappointed with my stay the staff are lovely very helpful and did give me 2 small cans of water as requested no problem there just the hotel facilities need an update and a little flexibility I remembered in the past getting the car park for free now you have to pay overnight for parking ?and you could just go down to pool at leisure in the past but now you have to book an hours slot I couldn’t get the time I9-10am to give me plenty of time to get showered and dressed before exiting room its a shame it’s all very controlled now at the Altens not how I remember it from before sadly I won’t be back not sleeping well and having to wait til 10am-11am to get a dip in the pool which is why I booked the Altens because you have to check out at 11am you only get around 30 -45 pm mins in pool or your charged 10 for late exit !! lastly the tv only had 3 channels on it to watch im glad i had my iPhone for entertainment I’m very disappointed I booked the Altens now I wish I had gone somewhere else closer to town to celebrate my birthday treat I personally need to relax at a hotel not have so many restrictions on me take note before booking
Thank you, Susie, for your detailed feedback. We're sorry your birthday stay didn’t meet expectations—especially regarding room comfort and pool access. The car parking charge is well advertised at booking and helps maintain safety, with funds going towards resurfacing. Hope we can welcome you back to a refreshed experience.
Fantastic experience: Easy to find. Good, clean rooms. 10 minutes driving from the town centre. Huge portions of food. Sauna and steam room. Only minus , no chairs around the pool.
Dear Clara Voiculescu,
Thank you for the lovely review. I'm pleased to hear you enjoyed your stay at The Aberdeen Altens Hotel, especially the food portions, spa facilities, and convenient location. We appreciate your note about the poolside seating and will certainly keep it in mind as we look at ways to improve.
Hope to welcome you both back again soon.

Fantastic experience: I have been staying at the hotel +10 years during business trips. Both the staff and the value for the service are excellent. Recommended.
Dear Nicolás A.A.,
Thank you for your continued loyalty over the past decade. It means a great deal to us that you choose The Aberdeen Dyce Hotel for your business stays. I'm delighted our team and service continue to meet your expectations.
We look forward to welcoming you for many more visits to come.
Positive experience: Surprisingly nice reception and dining, bar area. Rooms still dated and the famous brown decor is worth the visit alone lol but clean and spacious. Staff were great as always. Now charging for car parking!!!! Crap area up in Altens for going out for a walk after dinner but out of the way of the terrible LEZ zones for driving.
Thanks for the honest and humorous review Douglas! Pleased you enjoyed our reception, dining and bar areas, and appreciated the clean, spacious rooms. It's great to hear our team looked after you well again.
Just to add though, there are actually lots of places nearby for a walk, Cove Harbour, Loch of Loirston, and the coastal path overlooking the North Sea are all within a 10-minute stroll from the hotel.
Look forward to welcoming you back soon.
Fantastic experience: Excellent hotel, great restaurant staff especially Haroon and Laura ,real genuine customer friendly people 5 stars every day
Thank you for your great review Steve. We will be sure to pass your praise to our staff mentioned for the great service they provided you.
Fantastic experience: Big rooms, great service, and a solid breakfast. Everything you need for a relaxing stay.
We thank you for a 5 star review Lukasz.
Fantastic experience: Fantastic service. Clean rooms and fantastic food on the menu. I use this hotel every time I'm up in Aberdeen. Location isn't the best but I use this place for business trips.
Thank you for your 5 star review Ian. We really appreciate your feedback.
Fantastic experience: Really good hotel. Staff are lovely, giving great service. The gym is really good but the pool is quite small, pleasant for a dip but you won't be do long lengths, I had a relaxing sauna and dip . Food is excellent and quite reasonable. I stay every time I go to Aberdeen.
Thank you For a 5 star review Christopher. Hope to see you for another relaxing stay soon.
Negative experience: Here is a photo of the £14 pizza I paid for. The second I saw it on my plate I knew, as I eat this all the time at home… but for £4. I feel so beyond ripped off and disappointed. Dinner for five totalled £98 and three of us got this “pizza.” Staff were nice and the place was clean, but I won’t go back for more frozen meals. Update: I’ve had a reply insisting that this is not what I was served. I have never been more certain of anything in my life. My entire family and I knew the second it came out we had been served Chicago Town frozen pizza. For them to have the audacity to insist it was “handmade” and/or “from their supplier” instead of apologising is atrocious. They even tried implying they thought my review deserved more stars- honestly laughable. They will rip you off and then lie about it.
Dear Hannah,
Thanks for your review. I just wanted to clarify that we don’t serve Chicago Town pizza, our bases are supplied by Si Pizza and everything else is freshly prepared by our team. Also, the image you posted appears to be a screenshot, not an actual photo from your visit, so I wonder if there’s been some confusion there?
It's great to hear you found the hotel clean and the staff nice, so it's a real shame that only led to a one-star rating. I’ll share your feedback with the team so we can reflect and continue improving.
Kind regards,

Fantastic experience: Stayed with work so didn't use all the facilities. But lovely hotel. Clean. All staff very friendly. Good choice on the menu. Room very comfortable. High praise to all the team at the Aberdeen Alterns.
Thank you for a 5 star review Andy.
Positive experience: Lived in Cove for a while and only just found this place. Nice food, friendly staff, reasonable price and tables are far enough apart for a conversation! Would be better if you could pick a table but definitely recommend.
Thank you for your review Steve. Hope to see you back for a meal with us again soon. We'd be happy to accommodate any table requests you may have.
Positive experience: This is not a 4 star hotel for me if the Apex in dundee in 4 star and that place is lovely great rooms modern amazing spa the Altens falls very short . The rooms are minimum very dated was far to hot in the building but the location is great 10 mins to town center and there is lots of good food close by you can get delived to the hotel
Thank you for your review Kevin. We appreciate your feedback.
Positive experience: Receptionists very good , room very hot 23degreeds at midnight with no way to turn heating down , so windows open all night , stand alone fan on all night , Lorrys continually passing as on an industrial estate , so lack of sleep . Breakfast served at 8 am Sunday , when we had to leave at 7am So ended up in a cafe for breakfast Not the best if experiences,,
Thank you for your review David. We appreciate your feedback. Our breakfast times are clearly advertised and our reception team would have also informed you of breakfast time at check in.
Positive experience: Looks nothing from outside but OK once you enter. Great breakfast available. Can't say about dinner as was meeting family for evening meals. Great pool, steam and sauna rooms. You need to book in advance. Would be happy to return here. Great value. Staff helpful
Thank you for your review Norma. We appreciate your feedback.
Negative experience: Rooms very basic & outdated! Have to pay £6/night for parking & told “vehicles left at owners risk”… surely investing in CCTV as opposed to ANPR cameras on entry/exit would be more secure for £6/night! No kettle in the room! Couldn’t fault the staff
Thank you for your review George.
Positive experience: Arrived at the hotel and went straight to our room disappointed very dated! TV Basic 5 Channels (I like Tv at night) room and bathroom very dated. Kettle still full of water, the selection of teas etc no hot chocolate and only earl grey tea not always a fav. Spoke to the duty Manager did not get her name but she was extremely helpful where the reception staff were unable to answer many questions. We ate at the restaurant disaster! My husband had Hunters Chicken an he said it was lovely. I had the Chicken Satay to start sent it back as it was cold. I ordered a Ham and cheese panini no ham so they made it with bacon it arrived bacon was not ediable and no cheese! I ended up with a bowl of Heinz tomato soup and bread I was ready to abandon but the brilliant waitress made sure that I ate something! All the restaurant staff were all lovely! Was so looking forward to breakfast! Bacon overcooked and tough and dry even the bacon that came freshly from the kitchen! Scrambled eggs runny and watery! Sausages looked awful but tasted nice toaster toasted one side only and it you put it through again burnt!! Fresh orange tasted like it was watered down or just very cheap! The staff at breakfast barely interacted anyone. We didn’t pay for any of my meal even the soup and the manager bought us a glass of wine too.
Thank you for your review Hayley. We do appreciate your feedback.
Fantastic experience: tried to charge me £5 for a glass of tap water sent to my room… so greedy tv in the room is also so rubbish - all the channels are crap and the screen is way too small. got dirty looks for wearing slipper socks in bar area but had no choice be aus of £5 tray charge… daylight robbery. also no subtitles on the tv not to mention scampi fries are double the rrp in the vending machine also they charge for sparkling water blackout blinds are excellent and pillows are plump, comfortable sleep no water in the steam bucket in sauna… awkward vibe in there as well very generous with shortbreads also no conditioner in bathroom so leaving with dry feeling hair staff all very friendly and helpful except the man who wouldn’t put me through to the bar and made me redial??? we aren’t all good with technology
Thank you for your review Emma. We really appreciate all your feedback.
Fantastic experience: Me and my partner often stay at this hotel due to work commitments. Firstly, the Coast and Keg is fantastic! The food is always beautiful, definitely worth the price you pay which is usually the same amount youd pay at a local restaurant. Last night we shared the fajitas, dirty fries and a ceaser salad. Hats off to the chef as per usual! The staff are always super friendly and accommodating - no matter how busy the restaurant is! As a coffee drinker, i would highly recommend just enjoying a cuppa in the afternoon relaxing in the booths or tub chairs. The rooms are very basic however very clean, i specifically enjoy how comfortable the beds are with crisp fresh bedding. Housekeeping staff are always very friendly and more than happy to help in anyway the can. Especially with directions as i often go the wrong way to exit! Thats on me, not the multiple signage stating the exits. We are always greeted with a warm welcome from reception staff. Who also, are more than happy to help no matter the situation. Late check out? Need luggage stored? Need a hairdryer? Never a problem for the lovely ladies at the desk! Our favourite thing about this place is the free pool and gym facilities included in our stay. There is nothing better than having a evening swim, finished with relaxing in the sauna, steam room and jacuzzi. As someone who does not do well in busy crowd or lots of noise, this is a perfect place to unwind! This is definitely my go-to stay in Aberdeen, we always look forward to our next stay!
Thank you so much for your 5 star review Anna. We really appreciate your feedback. Looking forward to welcoming you back to the hotel again soon.
Negative experience: Rooms are dated as others have said, but clean and comfortable. Is what it is. Most people stay here for work it seems (myself included). Restaurant is over priced and terribly ran. No designated tables, poor ordering system with the few staff ambling around with no real idea who’s sitting where and who’s ordered what. I’d recommend not eating there if you value service or need food in any sort of hurry.
Thank you for your review Jordan.
Fantastic experience: I came here for an event and found the staff extremely friendly, helpful and efficient. Business event room well-resourced. Buffet breakfast good for the event. Well set out. Plenty of parking - free for guests, other have to pay by app or inside lobby.
Thank you so much for your review Alan. We really appreciate your kind feedback.
Negative experience: Some say retro, I would say severely dated! Room itself is ok. Covers on the bed were inside out. Label sticking out at the top Not the best impression. Food overpriced. Had to send the food back as it's wasn't what I ordered and that meant my husband was finished before I got to start eating mine. Instead of using good local food options, you get ultra processed c*. Two people food bill was £80. One starter to share (cheap tortilla chips with squishy sauce on top)and one main meal plus one salad. Bottle of cheapest wine. Restaurant looks nice enough inside so a shame it's let down by the poor food. Service was acceptable
Thank you for your review Winny. We appreciate your feedback.
Fantastic experience: Stayed here on a few occasions for work, and I was thoroughly impressed with everything from staff to the rooms and facilities, I would like to Point out an exemplary employee Ben from the desk, He made me feel really welcome and I gained a lot of local knowledge from him, his recommendations of a Brazilian restaurant was superb, Would 100% come back.
Thank you for your review Ryan. We appreciate your kind feedback and will be sure to pass this to our stay. Hope to see you again soon.
Fantastic experience: Staff are friendly and helpful, the restaurants food is extraordinary for the taste buds, the location is just a bus ride from the city centre but can be confusing to get to if you haven’t been to Aberdeen before. I suggest getting a taxi to the hotel when arriving to the city. The rooms are very spacious and is split into a bathroom, a wardrobe/dressing area, and the main living/sleeping area. Overall the hotel is wonderful and I will definitely be making this my go to hotel for anytime I visit Aberdeen.
Thank you for your review KosmikRedd. We appreciate your feedback. Hoping to welcome you back to the hotel again soon.
Fantastic experience: Me and my husband love the altens, we come every year sometimes 2/3 times a year. we love the welcome we receive when we enter, the hotels very clean absolutely lovely inside and rooms are always clean, never had an issue with the altens, the food is amazing and the staff are always very nice and friendly. It’s such a lovely hotel with lots to offer, the swimming/spa etc is great too just nice and relaxing. We Always feel great when coming to Aberdeen to the Altens it’s literally our Fave hotel I want to say thanks to all staff, use do an amazing job and we always look forward too returning. Lisa & Mark phinn
Thank you so much for your review Lisa. We appreciate your feedback. Look forward to welcoming you back to the hotel again soon.
Fantastic experience: Nice and friendly with reasonable rooms, but the breakfast could do with some improvements in the restaurant. The room did get very cold during the night, and the aircon heater was far too loud to keep on to long or to even sleep with on.
Thank you for your review Alan. We appreciate your feedback. Hoping to welcome you back to the hotel again soon.
Positive experience: Stayed at the Aberdeen Altens Hotel for our anniversary and overall it was a pleasant experience however there were a few drawbacks. The room was a bit dirty, our sheets were stained with a pink stain and our spare pillow was full of fluff and hair . But other than that it was a quick stay. Another drawback is you have to pay for parking.
Thank you for your review Zaib. We appreciate your feedback.
Negative experience: Hotel is OK, rooms are spacious but could do with some warmth (the heating regulator didn't work). The food for dinner was poor and the service not attentive at all. We had to ask three times for cutlery even though the food had been already served. The hygiene in the pool is very questionable, it looked and smelled unclean.
Thank you for your review Roswita.
Positive experience: The place has a very 90s feel and smell. I wouldn't choose to stay here but often do for work. It's like an old premier inn. The restaurant is over priced for what you get.
Thank you for your review Peter. We appreciate your feedback.
Fantastic experience: A lovely hotel to stay with plenty of parking for vehicles of all sizes. The main lobby was spacious and there were two lifts to access all floors. The restaurant is lovely and the food was good value for money. Just a 15 minute walk to the coastal path. Highly recommended hotel
Thank you for your great review Lauren. We appreciate your feedback. Hoping to welcome you back to the hotel again soon.
Positive experience: Reasonable hotel but what a bleak, miserable location... Parking isn't free even for guests and yet it is a long way from the city and should be free for guests.. Unfortunately the sports/pool facility is run a paid gym membership to non guests . Therefore it is overused and far too busy. The room was comfortable and a good size but the windows were unable to insulate the noise from the roads - sleep was disturbed The bathroom was clean but I'm not a fan of taking a shower inside a bath tub with a shower curtain. I never ate here as I hate British greasy breakfast food so I can't comment . Would I say here again.. No.. It's deceiving to find you can't properly use the hotel services due to the hotel renting out what should be guest only facilities. The nonsense parking system is an exaggerated cost. Too much outside noise ruins sleep.
Thank you for your review Mark. We appreciate your feedback.
Negative experience: The service in the restaurant is almost non existent. A group of 4 and a baby and we were there for over two hours. Staff completely un-interested in checking on tables, restaurant was 95% empty so there's just no excuse. The food is always amazing but i can't recommend this place to anyone because of how unbelievably slow the service is. Also ordered a coffee which never arrived, staff never read back any orders to make sure they hadn't missed anything. Prices are also fairly expensive, which if i didn't have to wait for so long would be easy enough to stomach.
We thank you for your review Christopher. We are sorry to read you had issues during your visit to us. We do hope to welcome you back in the future and restore a good opinion of the hotel from you.
Positive experience: Set around 2 mile from the city centre this hotel looks a little concrete jungle from the outside but once you step into the reception area its very different. Bright, spacious and well laid out, with a warm welcome from staff. Room was a little tired but very clean and well equipped. We didn't use the spa facilities so can't comment on them. Only had breakfast and there was plenty room to sit, although a little chilly. The breakfast is self service but staff on hand if you need them. Vegetarian options cooked to order. The potato scones were to die for. Would like to have seen more chopped fruit on offer, but there was whole fruit as well. The bar is spacious and well equipped. Very impressed with the amount of sockets to charge phones etc. Popular for conferences and business meetings this hotel has everything you need including parking at a very reasonable rate (£3 a night when we stayed) A short drive into town means this hotel ticked all our boxes.
Thank you for your review Missy. We appreciate your feedback.
Fantastic experience: Not too far from the city centre. Lovely hotel with all the amenities. Gym. Sauna. Pool. Jacuzzi. Steam Room. Breakfast was a nice selection and varied in choice.
Thank you so much for your review Stefanie. We really appreciate great your feedback. Hoping to welcome you back to the hotel again soon.
Fantastic experience: Nice hotel, only stayed there one night but had a lovely breakfast after using their spa facilities, which included swimming, steam and jacuzzi. All the spa facilities were at the correct temperatures, compared to lots of hotels I have been to.
Thank you for your amazing 5 star review Steve. We really appreciate your feedback. Hoping to welcome you back to the hotel again soon.
Fantastic experience: We normally visit the Coast & Keg once a week, in the evening to grab a Starbucks coffee and catch up on work etc but have always seen food being served around us, so wanted to try it for ourselves. They have a large menu perfect for any taste from a curry or teriyaki noodles to a pizza or the traditional fish & chips. The portion size is really good with that fresh homemade taste, our waitress Libby was fantastic, really friendly/bubbly & an asset to the Coast & Keg. The food is slightly pricey just due to it being a hotel environment but it definitely is worth the money if you are looking to try somewhere different or are staying with them for a few days.
Thank you for your review Joshua. We really appreciate your feedback. Hope to see you again soon.
Fantastic experience: Excellent food, good leisure facilities and very pleasant staff. Location not the best as next to an Industrial Estate. Usually quite, except sometimes children running wild, of course, the responsibility of their parents, in some cases, grandparents.
Thank you for your review Derek. We appreciate your feedback.
Fantastic experience: My recent stay at Aberdeen Altens Hotel was an absolutely fantastic experience, all thanks to their exceptional team and high standards of service. From the moment we checked in, Noot and Anna made us feel warmly welcomed, setting the tone for a delightful visit. The evening service team – Holly, Marianna, Chloe, Carol, Charlotte, Kiera, and Erin – provided top-notch care, attending to every detail with friendliness and efficiency. In the morning, the breakfast team, including Suzanna, Haroon, Thalia, and Lynn, ensured we started our day with a delicious spread and attentive service. Kenan deserves a special mention as well for taking care of all our needs during our training meeting, creating a stress-free environment that allowed us to focus completely. Their manager, Liam, went above and beyond to make us feel at home, treating us like royalty while never sacrificing the hotel’s welcoming charm. This incredible atmosphere is clearly a reflection of the outstanding leadership of General Manager Kris Manship, whose hands-on approach and dedication are evident in every part of the hotel’s operation. The rooms and amenities were superb – spacious, comfortable, and spotlessly clean. I highly recommend Aberdeen Altens to anyone visiting the area, whether for business or leisure, and I’ll certainly be back!
Thank you for your review Anne. We appreciate your feedback.
Negative experience: Hotel was very good but food in restaurant disaster. 'Chilli prawn tagliatelle' should be with king prawns but was with cocktail prawns and only 3 for whole plate and £18. One big joke. 8oz Rib eye steak medium rare was the bigest mistake. Wasting time and money!!!!!
Thank you for sharing your feedback, and I’m glad to hear you found the hotel to your liking. However, I’m disappointed that our restaurant didn’t meet your expectations. I’d like to clarify that our Chilli Prawn Tagliatelle is indeed prepared with peeled king prawns, as clearly shown in your photo.
We always aim to deliver high-quality dishes and regret that the rib-eye steak did not satisfy. Your comments are invaluable, and we’ll share them with our team to ensure improvements.
Thank you again for bringing this to our attention.
Kind regards,

Negative experience: Do not book here. Over priced and shoddy quality. Also they can take money out your account without you knowing. I got home and they took 250 out my account saying they had evidence I was smoking even though no alarms went off I wasn't no problems at check out. If u sign they can take anything g out ur account without question. The bank is on it though. I asked for evidence of their evidence and they had nothing. The food was awful and over priced too. My solicitor is on it. Just cause they are posh they think they can get away with anything.
Thank you, Paula, for your review. As a non-smoking hotel, we strictly enforce our policy to ensure a comfortable environment for all guests, which is why the £250 fine was applied. This is clearly outlined in our hotel policy.
Positive experience: Stayed here a few times whilst visiting family and its one of the two hotels I prefer. The staff are professional, polite, helpful and friendly. The food in the restaurant is very good as is the breakfast.
Thank you for your review Rab. We appreciate your feedback.
Fantastic experience: Booked in again after about a year as was a bit shabby last time, but we liked the pool. Everything seemed uplifted, the staff were great and the room was immaculate. Even the very good pool, sauna and steam room seemed brand new. Well done and thanks for a delicious breakfast too.
Thank you, Stuart, for your wonderful review! We're thrilled you noticed the improvements and enjoyed the pool, sauna, and steam room. It's great to hear our team made your stay memorable, and we're glad you loved the breakfast. Hope to welcome you back soon!
Positive experience: Didn't have the best start to our short stay in the Altens as the male receptionist was not at all friendly on arrival, However we didn't see him again the rest of our stay and other members of staff were very friendly and helpful. Our room was comfortable but chilly so I was glad I'd brought warm clothing. We couldn't get the heating to work and it was rather noisy when on. Luckily there was a bath to warm up in. I'm gluten and dairy free and was well looked after in the restaurant. My cooked breakfast was cooked separately to avoid cross contamination and I enjoyed an asparagus and pea risotto for dinner. The leisure facilities were great. A decent length swimming pool and a lovely hot Jacuzzi. There was a charge for parking in the hotel car park but it was only £3 a day. I'm surprised it's not included in the cost of the room. Hefty fines if you forget to pay. All in all a decent enough stay but lacked the coziness and personal touch of a smaller hotel.
Thank you for your review Dorothy. We appreciate your feedback.
Fantastic experience: Was there in the start of August, amazing location, good services. It was calm and friendly there , i really enjoyed. 5 min from ocean, if you on car 10 minutes to Aberdeen, or by bus the same time.
Thank you for your review Stas. We really appreciate your feedback. Hoping to welcome you back to the hotel again soon.
Fantastic experience: So this hotel really reminded me of an American style hotel. Big, with a pool, etc. The staff were always kind and prompt in answering any needs. The room was enormous and comfortable. It’s located kind of in an industrial area so nothing to really do on foot but loads in driving distance and no tourists in sight. (Bullers of buchan, seal beach etc etc). You have to call to book in for an hour at the pool/sauna/hammam. There’s a gym as well. Breakfast is ok, they do eggs cooked to order. We didn’t eat there for any other meal as the prices were a bit steep. I’m happy with our stay there though! Great value. Parking you have to pay for, but with a Discount it’s 3 pounds a night, not bad.
Thank you for your 5 star review Aubrey. We really appreciate your feedback. Hoping to welcome you back to the hotel again soon.
Positive experience: Lovely hotel, friendly staff, lovely room, nice pool/steam/sauna area. Food was really nice and chef was very attentive with changing the food items to accommodate for my celiac and provide me with a gluten free alternative pasta sauce. Breakfast was really nice too and gluten free options available I.e. rolls, corn flakes and other breakfast items. Would recommend and visit again.
Thank you for your review Joe. We appreciate your kind feedback.
Positive experience: This hotel is full of amenities. The rooms are large and spacious with very comfy beds and decent pillows. Breakfast was excellent. The only negative was having to pay for car parking.
Thank you for your review Jeff. We appreciate your feedback.
Positive experience: During my recent stay at the Aberdeen Alten Hotel, I found the experience to be a mixed bag. The hotel's central location was convenient, but there were a few notable drawbacks. First, the elevator was out of service during my visit, which meant that guests had to use the stairs. This was a significant inconvenience, especially for those with heavy luggage or mobility issues. Additionally, the rooms felt quite dated and in need of refurbishment. The décor was old-fashioned, and some of the amenities showed signs of wear and tear, which detracted from the overall comfort. However, the highlight of the stay was undoubtedly the breakfast. The morning spread was impressive, featuring a wide variety of delicious options, from freshly baked pastries to traditional Scottish fare. The quality and range of the breakfast offerings were superb, making it a delightful start to the day. In conclusion, while the Aberdeen Alten Hotel has its charms, particularly with its excellent breakfast, the broken elevator and outdated rooms were significant drawbacks. I would rate my stay at 3 stars.
Thank you, Mehdi, for your detailed review. We're pleased you enjoyed our central location and superb breakfast. Apologies for the inconvenience caused by the lifts, you'll be pleased to know these have now been fixed. We're actively working on updates to enhance our guests' comfort. We hope to welcome you back soon.
Positive experience: Very nice hotel, apart from you have to pay £3 per night for parking even as a resident. Food is excellent and the service was outstanding.
Thank you for your review Malcolm. We really appreciate your feedback. Hope to welcome you back to the hotel again soon.
Positive experience: We’ve had several stays at the Altens over the years with few issues. This time we had a major issue with our room but this was dealt with quickly and satisfactorily by Reception staff and management. I’m still not sure this is a 4* hotel at the moment even though there’s free access to the health club (gym & pool) and the public areas are very nice. There is no aircon in the rooms, for example, and neither are there any safes. The few electrical sockets are nowhere near the beds and there are no USB sockets. The soundproofing from the nearby A-road and to adjacent rooms is low quality. However, despite feeling a little dated, the rooms are spacious with good blackout curtains, the staff are all excellent, breakfast in the dining room is fantastic and the overall feel is one of decent quality. Location wise it is right on the A956 which is a 10-15 minute drive into the city or about 20-25 mins by bus.
Thank you for your review. We appreciate your feedback. We are glad our team were able to solve your room issue quickly.
Fantastic experience: Great stay once again. Special mention of Lynne who is so helpful during breakfast and Haroon who was serving on Friday evening then breakfast on Sat morning. Didn't eat at hotel on Saturday evening but he was serving again on Sunday morning. He was rushed off his feet on all shifts but couldn't have been more helpful and cheerful. Looking forward to next stay
Thank you for your review Ellen. We appreciate your feedback. Hoping to welcome you back to the hotel again soon.
Positive experience: The rooms were nice. Older perhaps, but roomy. Mine had 2 beds, a desk, and recliner. No AC but the windows open and I wasn’t hot during my stay. No fridge or microwave, I did miss that. Several of my lights flickered and another in my party had similar small issues … as well as one who complained his room was quite noisy (neighboring rooms), so older but okay. Breakfast was okay. All you can eat and some things were quite nice but others were just okay. The scrambled eggs they ran out of a lot and weren’t quite the right texture. The pancakes too - another in my party tried them and I felt like needing to apologize as I hadn’t warned them after I had them the day before. But it was all edible and generally okay. Maybe not worth the cost but it was convenient so I was glad I had it. Location isn’t great for dining options. There’s just the restaurant in the hotel, a Burger King, and a gas station nearby. Without a car, I think £4 round trip bus to town. The next closest restaurant might be 1 or 1.5 km away, each way. But the hotel has a nice hiking path nearby that can lead to the coastal trail which can be more than 4 km each way for someone who wanted a long scenic walk. And there’s a pool and a full gym as well. So a few things to do just at the hotel.
Thank you for your review Dewey. We appreciate your feedback. Hope to welcome you back to the hotel again.
Fantastic experience: First visit for father's day definitely won't be the last. The food was outstanding, everything was piping hot and obviously freshly made. Staff were all excellent friendly and attentive.
Thank you for your amazing review Jim. We appreciate your feedback.
Negative experience: Come here often for food etc. However, there is a new parking charge now and no one made me aware upon arrival. I received a £60 fine. The smallest little sign on the way in to the carpark, but no where else... no staff advising upon entry? I've heard other locals advise the same. Other guests who stayed at the hotel said they were advised when checking in and had to pay considerably less??? Yet I've had to pay up £60 for a 2 hour stay for a meal (poor service received on that front too but won't go into that). Shocking. Won't be back, won't be recommending. Total money grabbing after spending money on a meal.
Dear Jessica,
Thank you for your feedback. I'm truly sorry to hear about your recent experience with our parking charges and the service you received.
I want to clarify that we have made considerable efforts to inform our guests about the parking charges. There is a large sign at the entrance to the hotel, signs on every lamp post in the car park, a large sign as you approach the hotel entrance, a pay machine at the main doors, and multiple signs throughout the hotel. Additionally, there is a tablet as you enter the bar area where you can enter your registration to receive free parking.
We regret that these signs were not visible to you, but I personally feel, our signage is perhaps slightly excessive. Additionally, there is a tablet as you enter the bar area where you can enter your registration to receive free parking so I’m unsure how this is “money grabbing”?
Regarding the service during your meal, I would appreciate more details so we can address the issues directly and improve our offerings.
Thank you for bringing this to our attention. We value your feedback and will use it to enhance our services.
Kind regards,

Positive experience: Rooms were clean. There was a kettle and tea and coffee. The room and a shower within the bath. I think the bed was a double and not a king size it was comfy but felt a bit small. What we didn’t like was that despite the price of the hotel (not cheap) they also charge you for parking with ANPR cameras! They could give their hotel guests free parking. It is quite petty to charge their guests when they have the technology not to charge the guests. We wouldn’t choose to stay here again but it was perfectly adequate and the stay were pleasant. We ate at the in house restaurant and the food was very nice. So a nice place for a meal. We had pizza and fajitas. They were yum.
Thank you for your review. We appreciate your feedback. Hope to welcome you back to the hotel again soon.
Fantastic experience: Very nice weekend away - I enjoyed a quiet location of this hotel, delicious food and also very friendly and helpful staff (especially Nonso at the reception). The hotel is located in a very close proximity to a nice coastal hiking trail if you fancy some walking and reunion with nature. I also enjoyed the spa facilities (sauna, jacuzzi & steam room).
Thank you for your review Agnieszka. We appreciate your feedback. Hoping to welcome you back to the hotel again soon.
Negative experience: Just popped in the bar for a drink and snack for the kids after doing the Escape Rooms (which were brilliant). Ordered drinks plus some garlic bread, nachos and onion rings. Drinks came quite quickly but after 35 minutes asked where our food was. Think they had forgotten it as there was a bit of rushing around then food came out 10 minutes later. Good nachos but soggy horrible onion rings
Thank you for your review, Carol. We're glad you enjoyed the drinks and nachos. Apologies for the delay and quality of the onion rings. We'll address this with our kitchen team to improve service and food quality. Hope to welcome you back soon.
Positive experience: Decent hotel, and has certainly improved in the last couple of years. Food in the restaurant is of a high quality with a reasonably extensive menu. the staff and the service are great. Went back again recently. The food in the restaurant is fantastic.

Positive experience: Upon arrival reception is lovely and clean receptionists extremely polite and welcoming, however when going to the bar area to order food the staff become rather rude and abrupt. This may have been because I was ordering food at 2130hrs as there shut off time is 2200hrs! Couldn’t be helped due to me arriving late but absolutely no need for staff to make you feel as though I wasn’t allowed to order food!. Don’t get me wrong I hate being that person to order last minute but as a establishment they need to realise people may have travelled all day and for the late order not have got the chance to eat! Definitely wouldn’t stay here again due to this reason! Rooms outdated but very spacious, clean and beds are comfy enough to sleep
Thank you for sharing your experience with us Mark. We deeply value your feedback as it helps us enhance our services.
I'm glad to hear that you found our reception area clean and our receptionists welcoming; however, we sincerely apologise for the less-than-ideal encounter you had in our bar area. Providing exceptional service throughout your stay is our top priority, and I regret to learn that we fell short of your expectations during your dining experience.
I understand your frustration with the timing of your food order and the staff's response. Please know that your feedback has been shared with our team, and we will address this issue to ensure that all guests are treated with the utmost respect and courtesy, regardless of the time of their request.
Regarding your comments about the room, we appreciate your recognition of its cleanliness and spaciousness. We are continuously working to update and improve our accommodations to provide a comfortable stay for all our guests.
I hope that you will reconsider staying with us in the future, as we are committed to delivering exceptional service and ensuring that all our guests have a memorable experience.
Negative experience: The room alone cost us £112, they charge for parking per night. We went for a few drinks and food at the bar. The drinks are absolutely extortionate, a double gin and tonic cost us nearly £17! We received the bill the next morning at the reception desk. I was asked to check over the bill (which was not detailed at all, just 'bar charge', then the amount) When I emailed to question the bill, I was told that I was asked to check over the bill before making payment. How on earth can you check over a bill that is not detailed?! Just amounts! We had our breakfast around 0930, went to the room to tidy up, checked our for 5 to 11 then asked regarding the spa facilities. We then got told that we would have to pay an additional fee to use the spa facilities due to our booking finishing at 11am! That is a first for me travelling to any hotel and is so so cheap and stingy. We definitely won't be returning to this hotel. It's a shame because previous visits have been ok. Must be due to bad changes.
Dear Kevin Cargill,
Thank you for your recent review.
I'd like to clarify that the prices for the drinks would have been detailed on the bar receipt you signed when charging them to your room. The bar tariff is also on display in Coast and Keg, on our website and can be accessed via QR code on your welcome letter.
Regarding the Health Club facilities, please note that access is reserved for hotel guests during their stay. Our check-in time is from 3 pm, and check-out is at 11 am, allowing a generous window of 20 hours for guests to enjoy the amenities. The Health Club is a members club and requires proof you are a hotel resident.
Your feedback is invaluable, and we will use it to enhance our services and communication with guests. Should you decide to visit us again, we would be delighted to ensure a more positive experience for you.
Kind regards,
Kris Manship
