St Paul's Sports Hall: Opinions
Fantastic experience: Amazing hall for the player's. We enjoyed well their
Fantastic experience: Mial mial miauuuu
Fantastic experience:
Fantastic experience: For the price, this gym is awesome - but very basic! You have to know how to train prior to going
Fantastic experience: Pretty much everything you need, although can be very busy at like 6-8ish, becomes a bit jarring. Gonna bang out some chest today, stay big
Positive experience: Place is a maze, very confusing only one bathroom, which is combined with the changing rooms and smells awfully. Lockers are small and either cost 1 pound or haven't a key. There are almost no places to sit courtside and the benches are extremely small for grown people.
Fantastic experience: Supportive staff and good facilities.
Fantastic experience: Great gym! 4 floors with ample equipment. The ambiance is great and motivating
Fantastic experience: Well run and clean multiple floors. Staff very friendly always willing to help. Not just a gym, lots to do here. Archery, Babington, volleyball, netball, cricket, etc. Changing rooms and lockers safe and clean. Multi national membership, calm place to unwind. Disabled access to all facilities.
Fantastic experience: Nice facilities with a decent amount of work outs available. Friendly and helpful staff. Has adapted well to covid times. Update - Still going great. Have kept disinfectant available even though they've reverted to their pre pandemic set up.
Fantastic experience: Great layout for a good gym session.
Negative experience: I use this gym only becouse I have 25% discount and close to my house ,mornings are nice and quiet this case convenient for me . Otherwise I wouldn't be a member. The reasons : layout :not so good but you can get use to it . Equipment: Not well positioned some of them doesn't work ,not 100% safe ,in bad shape or just simply nobody looks after them I guess .(Start lubricate the cables pls !) Hygiene: Changing room stinks the water fountain out of order but even when it was I almost through up from the water. Was not clean at all(Bring your own drink guys ).Fans are dusty so you breathe in the dust constantly (in summer ).in my first 3 month I have looked at the same lost gym gloves on the floor (How often you sweep guys ?) Music :You guys have bad music and speakers from the 90' . Way too loud and sound is distorted that's why everyone uses headphones. Especially if you go with friend it is really annoying not to hear each other etc. Staff everyone nice but keep rotating .I only find couple of people really know things but they are amazing . Health and safety: uncovered electric cables . wobbly benches (when you ballance heavy weights you need support not an extra thing you have to balance out.)fire alarm test at 12 o clock does not make sense to me .would be more comforting if it can be done before opening. No cameras no routine checks at least not when I'm in . Anything can happen to anyone and nobody would realize it for long time. Temperature : Air-condition only in one of the rooms .The rest of the rooms- Summer time : dusty fans in and windows open which already confusing and unnecessary.Winter: all windows are open and the temperature go way lower than should be . P.s This place could be really lovely with some extra organisation and attention
Hi Janos, thank you for your feedback and please accept our apologies that our service has missed the mark. Your comments have been passed on to the gym team and we'll ensure we resolve these issues. Many thanks, Bryn

Update
Layout and equipment:
Unfortunately, we’re fairly restricted with the layout. All equipment goes through weekly checks and with Ravelin Sports Centre being built not all equipment is coming with us, so lack of investment in this area is apparent. We have asked our equipment suppliers to quote for upholstery repairs and investigate costs for equipment repair beyond our capabilities.
Changing rooms:
On the day we investigated only the women’s changing area had a smell. This can be a result of the drains not being flushed when dirty water from our cleaning goes down the drains. We’ve logged this with our cleaners and estates department who will carry out a cleaning audit.
Water fountain:
These currently don’t meet water regulations and are undergoing safety testing, these are being tested and flushed weekly. We’ve not received any other reports of taste issues, but please let us know if this returns.
Music:
We monitor the music throughout the day and do receive daily comments about the volume being too loud and too quiet. We can respond to requests at reception in terms of music genre and volume as we get that music choice is subjective so try to vary playlists.
Cleanliness:
We have cleaners contracted to deep clean daily, we spot clean throughout the day, but afraid we couldn’t find the gloves you mentioned. We’ve looked in the building but couldn’t locate them. Please let us know if they’re still in view.
Staff:
Thank you for the compliment, we do currently have a lot of new staff, some of which are employed for when Ravelin Sports Centre opens including lifeguards and customer service staff. We do have a range of staff, you can always ask our duty supervisor for support who can find the right person to help with any equipment or specific questions you may have.
Health and safety:
We could not locate the uncovered cables, so please let us know where these are so we can fix this, we’ve also tightened the benches. The fire alarm tests are completed by our estate's team across the campus and can’t be completed before we open due to their working hours. We try to keep these to a minimum and warn users before they happen. We want to make sure they’re effective should we ever need them. We have CCTV in most rooms and conduct building checks, but the CCTV is not monitored 24/7.
Temperature:
The ground and first floor have air conditioning. Due to the limited opening of the windows, we keep the fans on and windows open to keep airflow moving through rooms, as these rooms can get very hot in the summer. We’ve taken these apart this week, cleaned them and hoovered them this week. Current guidelines suggest keeping windows open to keep the ventilation flowing to reduce the risk of COVID.
We were due to close St. Paul’s towards the end of last year but this has been extended. Thank you so much for your feedback, if you experience any further issues when you’re in, please come and chat with our reception team who can resolve the issues for you so you can continue to enjoy your workouts.
Positive experience: Helpful staff, not expensive membership, but some machines need some maintenance and to be placed and divided between floors in a better way.
Fantastic experience: Very good gym but all equipments are located on different floors.
Positive experience: It's a good little gym near university of Portsmouth staff is pretty much friendly nice atmosphere in the gym cheers
Positive experience: Good little gym and a great price! Has a huge range of equipment available for strength and cardio, and big sports hall too. The staff are incredibly friendly and helpful. Only downside is some of the equipment is in need of repair.
Negative experience: poor treatment of staff if you're considering getting a job there, gyms alright though.
Positive experience: Closing at 6pm on a Saturday. REALLY!
Positive experience: This is a decent enough gym. It's tiny. On 4 floors, but for the price it's a deal, it's a steal, in fact, it's the sale of the century. Gets very busy during term t it me, of course.
Fantastic experience: It's a great gym for such a cheap price- specially if you're a student. There are 4 floors of the gym and you can also book personal training sessions.
Thanks for your review Anirban. We hope you enjoy your time as a member with us :-)
Positive experience: Decent uni gym nothing special just a good place to train
Negative experience: Good gym . Worst payment service that you will ever experience , 19 Th century always for their own good. Just go to other gym
Hi Alexandru, we're sorry you've experienced problems with our payment service. Our direct debit memberships require one month's notice to be cancelled. You can still use the gym in this time though. Please contact us if you need help cancelling.
Negative experience: Had an exam here once and it was bad
Hey Jacob, thanks for your one star rating, means a lot. Why was your exam so bad, too much snakebite, lack of revision or combination of both?
Positive experience: Good uni gym if going at quiter times, the badminton and open sessions are a nice touch
Fantastic experience: Great staff, always helpful.
Fantastic experience: Good facilities and very reasonable student rates
Positive experience: Decent facilities but annoying to have to keep paying guest fee, membership should come with 1 free guest for badminton every time
Positive experience: It's really not great, but for the price completely worth it. Mediocre gym built over four floors, makes leg day a real pain.
Fantastic experience: C'était super sympa ! J'ai pu faire du badminton, et cela m'a fait beaucoup, entre l'équipement mis à disposition et et le personnel sympathique. J'en garde un bon souvenir !
Fantastic experience: Great prics for all! Especially students. A range of gym equipment and rooms available to train in. Also, being a member allows you to book a badminton court free-of-charge (unless you do not have your own racquets, then a small fee is applied to borrow some). The only downside is the cardio room upstairs dries the hell out of my lips.
Fantastic experience: Affordable and has sooo much equipment. They even have different rooms depending on the equipment, like an abs and cardio room and a free weights room. They've got everything you need and the changing rooms are spacious although the lockers are only big enough for 1 bag.
Fantastic experience: Highly recommended - Best gym in Portsmouth. Not only does it have state-of-the-art equipment, you get free racket sports & free classes including Les Mills! Staff are also incredibly friendly and genuinely want to help you reach your fitness goals!
Positive experience: Very well equipped. Only downside - not all Aircon was working. Very friendly staff, good value pay as you go option.
Positive experience: Student and staff gym
Fantastic experience: Very good gym
Fantastic experience: Very good gym, helpful, professional and friendly staff. If you are a new member without the experience, they can prepare workout plan for really small charge. Amazing ♥
Positive experience: Great gym, for UoP student mostly, it spans across 4 floors each with well maintained equipment and really freindly staff, very flexible opening hours so you will always be able to get in a workout no matter your schedule, it can get rather busy from time to time but choose your time wisely and you will have a really good experience here
Fantastic experience: Great equipment
Positive experience: Very good gym.
Thank you Hilal, we're glad you like it. See you soon - Sport and Recreation
