Greenwoods Hotel & Spa: Opinions
Fantastic experience: We had an amazing stay here back in November. Everything was perfect!
Positive experience: We stayed for a spa evening with treatments, dinner, overnight stay and breakfast. There were definite highlights, but also several issues that stopped this being the relaxing experience it should have been. The facial and massage were absolutely incredible, and the therapists were genuinely excellent, easily the best part of the stay. The food was also very good, and reception staff were polite and helpful when issues were raised. Unfortunately, the spa itself was far too crowded. There were nowhere near enough loungers for the number of guests, and no seating other than loungers. As a result, we couldn’t get a lounger, couldn’t access the hot tub, and couldn’t use the sauna, which was really disappointing given this is the main reason for booking a spa stay. We also felt that voucher guests booked via a third party were treated differently, being seated in a separate back area of the dining room and placed in rooms above the bar. While the set menu was fine, the experience felt noticeably less premium. Our room had several problems: • The heating didn’t work, though reception did provide a portable heater quickly • The bed was extremely small, smaller than a standard double • Being above the bar meant loud music until late at night, which only stopped after calling reception at 11.30PM, then it started again early the next morning, just past 7.10AM. On checkout day, a booked treatment was moved without warning, meaning it had to be cancelled as we couldn’t wait longer. A refund was agreed, but it was still a disappointing end to the stay. Overall, the treatments and staff were excellent, but overcrowding, room issues, noise, and poor communication seriously affected the experience. I might consider returning for a treatment if it were absolutely garenteed it wouldn't be moved without warning, but would not stay overnight again unless these issues were addressed.
Positive experience: Booked spa treatment incl 50 min treatment and lunch through buy a gift with 26% off and paid £184 for two. Booking the treatment was a faff. Before booking the voucher I checked available dates, bought voucher and tried to call back. Couldn’t get through. Left message was called back whilst I was on a call and couldn’t answer. Tried to call back and again couldn’t get through. Emailed with all the voucher details - no response. Following day eventually got hold of someone after leaving another message and my preferred day was now full. Argh. Anyway, booked a day, treatment for 4 of us (2 couples) at 11.30 and lunch at 1. Received an email confirmation but nothing further. Arrived and it looks set nice in its grounds. You check in at hotel reception who send you down to the spa reception where you get robes and towels and a piece of paper with the booking details. Our mistake was not to inspect them further as the top one was exactly as booked. It later turned out that my husband’s treatment was at 12 and not 11.30 but no one told us to double check and that there was any change to the booking. He wasted 1/2 hr that he could have spent in the steam room. Anyway, we had ours and were regrouping in the reception area. I was getting concerned about my husband and the two women behind the reception did not pass on his message to us that we were to go to the relaxing room. After 10-15 mins wait I gave the reception ladies a message to pass on to him but they still didn’t tell me that he left a message with them. The treatments were good!!!! Back to arriving. We walked into the women’s changing room and it’s quite cold in there. The swimming pool is a nice size but the space around it is tight with loungers and nothing else. The whirlpool sits four people (if you know each other) but was permanently taken up by regular so don’t get to try it. The sauna was not hot. The steam room was a good temperature but no hose pipe to cleanse the seats?!?!? Outdoor space is just a terrace full of loungers. I was expecting a bit of a garden to walk through but alas. Perhaps my expectations were too high. Restaurant is nice. Staff friendly but on the forgetful side as we had to ask three times for our drinks for both the first and second round of drinks. Food was very good. Incl drinks (soft) we paid about £100/head and felt it was worth it but don’t think I’d want to go back. It doesn’t feel lush or relaxing. Unless you go to the relaxation rooms which are in the same area where the treatment rooms are and each have a small sauna, which at least were hot. As others have mentioned there are a lot of empty cups that don’t get cleared up. It feels a bit neglected throughout the day. We still enjoyed it as food and treatment were good.
Fantastic experience: Highly recommend, very pleasant staff and beautiful lounge drinking area, nice rooms spa etc. Always a pleasure, this place.
Fantastic experience: Great spa and pool, the ba and restaurant are very nice too, with really great food.
Positive experience: If this is your first spa and manor House experience then it's lovely. If it is not then you will see it's basic. The house itself is beautiful. Very well kept. If you have food allergies it's like they don't quite understand what to do. Stayed here for the spa, three course meal, treatment and overnight. The treatment was wonderful. The spa... It was ok. The dinner was nice but my husband has allergies and it felt like a nuisance to them that my husband has allergies (What??) then the key to our bedroom wouldn't work 7 times. I had 7 key cards in the room how many times we have to ask for a key that worked and we were only staying for a night. The room itself. Lovely. Would I return... No.
Positive experience: Me and my friend stayed here for one night for her Birthday treat. We booked with a woucher deal. Room, 2 course meal, b&b and booked a couple of Spa treatments too. We had a lovely time but just wanted to note a few items. The room we stayed in needs updating as wardrobe door hinge was broken and also curtains/blinds were dated and bedroom one didn't fully close. Also felt like the treatments were very rushed. We have yo say that Honor who works at the bar/lounge was such a breath of fresh air, so helpful and made our evening, well done Honor 5 stars were for Honor.
Fantastic experience: Enjoyed a lovely Christmas afternoon cream tea here with a friend, comfortable, polite and friendly staff, festive spirit feels the room, open fire, Christmas tree, beautiful staircase. Will be delighted to visit again soon...
Fantastic experience: Lovely hotel. We had a black Friday special from secret Escapes. Really nice room. Excellent pool and spa facilities. The evening meal was superb and really tasty. Brilliant breakfast, Will stay again.
Fantastic experience: Booked a spa day on 29/11/25 arrived with a very warm welcome from the reception team and everything was explained.the spa area and pool was really clean and spacious and very relaxing.changing rooms were clean and shower was lovely.had a fabulous 2 course lunch again staff were very helpful and very professional.the facials we had were lovely had mine done by rebecca who also included a scalp massage she was very welcoming the.whole experience was great and will be back soon.
Negative experience: Went yesterday for a spa day. The restaurant was such a disappointment. My friend and I have intolerances which we informed them of prior to arrival. We also made them aware when we arrived and when we sat down in the restaurant, yet every single dish we had to question and they then had to either take back to the kitchen or remove parts of the dish in front of us. It’s a good job we weren’t allergic and just have an intolerance. I’ve been quite unwell today and can only put it down to the food from yesterday. You really need to inspect what is going on as you could cause some serious harm to someone. Manager at reception asked us how our day went, we responded that we were disappointed with the food and she said “oh really with the restaurant? Ok have a nice night” brilliant! Thanks for your concern. Won’t be returning any time soon.
Negative experience: DO NOT RISK IF YOU HAVE FOOD ALLERGYS!!! Came to greenwoods for a spa day with lunch and treatment. Spa was nice, could do with an update as pool area was nothing special. Relaxation rooms very standard. As others have mentioned no one maintaining the area thoughout the day so cups left from other users. Treatment was lovely, therapist was friendly. Restaurant- two members of our party have severe food intolarances to gluten and dairy. These were mentioned when booking and again at check in and when ordering. Both were served food they were intolarent too. Gluten free person served a meal with gluten containing bread despite the menu stating the meal was gluten free!! Dairy free person served dairy ice-cream twice!!!!! Very bad and felt unsafe for allergery suffers as staff did not seem very knowelegable about what was in food. We did bring this issue up to the hotel staff both during the meal and at check out and were dismissed both times.
Negative experience: Avoid at all costs!!! I got a voucher from my husband to use here. We frequent spas a lot and this is one I hadn’t tried before. I tried to call 4-5 times to book and just kept getting an answerphone message so decided email would be best. Emailed with 4 dates I was happy to book any of them, we were very flexible but appreciated Christmas is a busy time. Emailed me back to say which dates were free I confirmed one, they then emailed me back following day no longer available this happen 2-3 times. In the meantime I tried to call them again as clearly email isn’t a strength of this company… Called between 20-30 times and no one ever answered the phone, always going straight to voicemail. In the end I just completly gave up and have transferred the voucher to another spa. Honestly don’t waste your time or money… no customer service at all.
Fantastic experience: I go to Greenwood’s every year for Christmas with my friends it has now become a tradition. Such a great spa and hotel ticks all the boxes and gray value for money. The staff are exceptional and always go out of their way to accommodate all our needs and the chef always create other options for me as I am vegetarian. It’s a really lovely place for relaxing and celebrating highly recommend.
Positive experience: The experience was nice...we celebrate 10 year anniversary-the dinner just amazing and so the breakfast, the staff very professionaland and nice! We get let check in so... we had dinner and the massage we mange in the check out, we didn't have time for spa, hotel was full! The reservation team really nice and fast, I had fast answer from them! The masaj was quick,we spend 16 min,my husband been lucky and had 25 min!
Fantastic experience: We very much enjoyed our two night break. The hotel was beautifully decorated for Christmas. We had booked dinner, bed and breakfast & we were not disappointed. All our meals in the restaurant were delicious with plenty of choice both at breakfast and dinner. We also booked massages prior to our stay. The spa was clean and well organised. All four appointments in our party were on time. We used the pool both days....plenty of room and lovely & warm. Special mention to the staff....each one was friendly, helpful and efficient. They certainly enhanced our stay.
Positive experience: Following a recent stay, emailed the Manager twice with feedback and heard nothing. Thank you once again for another lovely stay. Coming to see you always re-charges our batteries. We would like to give some constructive feedback to help you make our next stay even better and also for those guests yet to enjoy Greenwoods. The temperature in the bedrooms was too hot. We couldnt find how to turn the temperature down, and the circular window would not open. This made for a restless, uncomfortable nights sleep (or no sleep!) No bread rolls were offered at the start of our evening meal. there was a plate and knife for a roll, however when we asked for the usual bread roll, we were advised that these were 'extra'?! There was a female member of staff serving in the restaurant who looked very scruffy compared to their colleagues; Un-ironed uniform, two ladders in tights, false eyelashes and floppy hair. We are sure that there are food hygiene standards that have to be met, along with the professional appearance expected of Greenwoods, as we felt that this member of staff needs some encouragement to reach these standards. We hope that our comments are helpful, and we look forward to coming to stay again at the beginning of March.
Fantastic experience: Absolutely superb spa day (courtesy of best friend's pressie to me). Gorgeous location and surroundings. Friendly staff. Treatment (full body massage) was lovely. Treatment room fab & relaxing. Good size gym. Meal was amazing. Thoroughly recommend
Fantastic experience: Been here twice with my boyfriend, and looking forward to coming back soon. The facilities are great, the rooms are nice and big and the food at the Ellis restaurant is always outstanding. Since going there again, the supplement charge has risen though, but the quality of the food is fantastic. The spa treatments are also great and very relaxing. Recommend for a getaway!
Positive experience: We went for a spa day through virgin experience days. I also booked a Swedish massage and scalp massage. They wouldn't tell you what time your treatments were booked for till the day, mine were for 4pm and 5pm. You have access to the spa till 7pm. The spa reception was very nice, but the changing rooms and spa itself did not match this vibe. The changing room was all open and had one changing room with a door. The pool was huge but it was not giving spa at all in the pool area, it was giving leisure centre. There was no mood lighting, just bright spotlights. The hot tub was nice but then I saw some brown foam bubbles and it out me off entirely. We went on a Saturday so it did get quite busy for the loungers but the pool never felt overly busy. The hot tub did, it was very much one out, one in quick. The sauna and steam room was the same. I just don't think the pool area matched the vibe of the hotel and spa reception, it was not giving luxury. The treatments were not good for me. The Swedish massage was fine but a bit painful in parts, that was not enjoyable. Top half of the back, very nice, bottom half very painful. At one point she placed my arm on my back, that was not enjoyable cos I had to consciously hold my arm there and make sure it didn't slip, hardly relaxing. The scalp massage was such a waste of money, I wish I hadn't bothered. It was bloody awful, I don't think my therapist knew how to do a scalp massage. At one point she would run her fingers through my hair, then scrunch it up against my scalp. I almost wanted to laugh whilst she was giving me the scalp massage cos it felt so bad and she didn't seem like she knew what to do. I've had a way better massage by the teenage apprentice getting my hair washed at my hairdressers. The whole thing was borderline painful and uncomfortable with no relaxation, wish I hadn't had bothered. Just a bit disappointed in my treatments because that was my main reason for organising a spa day, really needed a good treatment after pregnancy and postpartum. Overall wouldn't recommend this place and wouldn't return.
Positive experience: DO NOT BOOK SPA DAY. The hotel itself is stunning. Restaurant was delicious, and all waitresses were extremely friendly and welcoming. However, the spa is a different story. I booked a pamper day for myself and a relative. I called to book (which was a nightmare to actually get through) and arranged lunch for 1pm, and chose the 50 minute massage for the treatment. The days leading up to this I called numerous times to ask if there was a time for the treatment or if this was just arranged on the day. I left a voicemail with my details asking if someone could text/email a response. Could not get through The pamper day is use of the facilities from 9am-7pm. As lunch was for 1pm we arrive around 10:45am, only to be told our massages were scheduled for 10:30am so we have missed this! Am I supposed to be a mind reader and know this? Also, I understand the staff are busy with dealing with the hotels, but surely you would try and contact someone if they did not show?? The spa staff said as the day is 9am-7pm and we didn't turn up at 9am there is not much they could do which I found completely unbelievable but the staff did not seem fazed. They said they would look at the diary and see what they could do. We overheard another booking party who had the same issue. Not sure why they expect everyone to just hang around all day and work around them? The booking info is very unclear. Luckily, the staff did manage to squeeze us in for 20 minute back massages at 6pm, but we had to wait around for this. The treatments itself was fantastic, the therapists were amazing! I would definitely recommend the treatment and restaurant itself, but as a whole was very unorganised and ultimately ruined our day. Additionally, the spa is shared with on the day booking and hotel so do not expect a lounger after midday, as well as overcrowded pool/jacuzzi etc. I would not recommend and will not be returning.
Fantastic experience: Been few times over the years, recently attended an event for a client in the garden room. Lovely venue and I presume it's used for weddings normally.
Fantastic experience: My partner and myself went here for an Afternoon Tea a Red Letter Voucher gift. What a lovely Hotel it is, beautiful setting, lovely staff, and our Afternoon Tea was delicious, would definitely go again, had a look around the hotel to see all the facilities, lovely Spa and swimming pool, dining room etc excellent, the wash room was top class.
Fantastic experience: I stayed here with my mum for a night away and it was such an amazing and beautiful hotel! Staff were so friendly and kind, the food was outstanding (the deconstructed Black Forest amazing!!) breakfast was delicious and the scones for our snack later on in the day :) The pool, sauna and steam room were lovely and very clean across the whole hotel! Our massages were so relaxing and great care . I can not fault anything it was such a great stay and we will be back for sure! Please praise all of the staff 28/29 September
Negative experience: Terrible spa day experience. Food was poor. Massage was the worst I've had, no pressure at all and when I asked for firmer I was told it was a Swedish not a deep tissue and they couldn't do firmer, but there was zero pressure, just brushing me. Jacuzzi foam was brown dirty, you could see the dead skin on it. Overall the worst spa day imaginable.
Fantastic experience: Been lots of times for day spas - highly recommended
Positive experience: We visited while attending a wedding and, though I encountered a lot of inconvenience trying to make a booking (no one picks up the phone and the booking experience on the website is broken), we enjoyed our stay. Staff in the bar area were friendly and attentive (more professionalism required in the spa area), the reception room and grounds were lovely and our room was comfortable, if a little cramped. The "spa" is a bit of a leisure centre vibe but reasonable enough to spend a couple of hours swimming.
Negative experience: Lovely afternoon tea but the spa was not up to scratch for the price you pay! My friend went under water in the swimming pool and had a severe reaction as the chlorine levels were so high. Staff not interested and were too busy chatting between themselves about getting a Chinese later. Changing rooms not clean and smelt of sewage. Would not go back.
Positive experience: My best friend treated me to a beautiful spa day and lunch for a birthday treat. Lovely hotel with beautifully clean premises and attentive staff. A warm welcome, and we were able to have a coffee and croissant in the bar served to our table. The spa reception is beautifully decorated, nice friendly staff too. The only thing is the changing rooms do not reflect the same luxurious look and are more basic but practical. Included is a nice large disabled private walking shower with a seat. The pool is large and has gradual walk-in steps. The downside is that these steps are at the other end of the pool. The other ladder steps and pillar in the room, along with lots of loungers, makes it incredibly awkward to walk along the pool to access the gradual stairs into the pool. Plenty of cold water is available. I had a great sauna, which was not over hot. The treatment rooms are restful, dimmed, and calming. Treatments are divine. It was one of the best facials. The relaxation rooms are a plus with heated beds. The pool heater was not working, so it was like cold water swimming . But refreshing and manageable once your shoulders were under! Lunch was really good. Served with style by friendly, happy staff. Each course was lovely. Coffee in the garden, too.
Negative experience: Is a lovely hotel the found dust imbedded into things tv control, telephone, lamp also broken, bathroom mirror dirty stained. When I flagged this to the manager she assured me that she would address the issue inftact she ignored me. Some staff were lovely some not. Quite disappointed will not come back.
Negative experience: We received a voucher for a hotel stay including spa and dinner for two as a gift from my 70 year old parents. Hidden in the terms and conditions, but not the product summary is a clause that the voucher cannot be used at the weekend. I reached out to the reservations team to try and find a solution given the misleading voucher terms, sadly the team were zero help. Really disappointing and not the service you expect from a 4 star hotel!
Fantastic experience: My girlfriend had a recent overnight stay for my 30th birthday. The room was lovely, the spa was relaxing, and all the staff were very welcoming, with a particular mention for Jeremiah and his team in the evening, and Melanie, who gave an excellent massage. If I had one gripe is that we could not access the spa after our checkout. We were under the impression we could do so (perhaps our misunderstanding), but I'm aware of other similar hotels that allow this. It would have been nice, but far from a deal-breaker. But overall, a lovely stay.
Fantastic experience: Wedding event stage decor by Taj Wedding Services. Beautiful venue, easy access.
Negative experience: You couldn't pay me money to come back here. We came for my birthday as a treat. The afternoon tea was average at best, cakes all very heavy and stodgy, only filter coffee available, every other coffee was £5 extra per coffee. The spa was so packed, no bed to lay down, even outside the beds were taken and it wasn't the warmest of days. The jacuzzi was so full all the time we couldn't get a turn. I feel more stressed and frustrated than before we arrived. Please save your money and go elsewhere, we certainly will.
Negative experience: The staff definitely need extra training in how they deal with customers. When we first arrived everything went fine until we were handed our booking confirmation only to see they had given me the wrong name and spelt my surname wrong ,when I asked for this to be changed it seemed I was asking for the world as the receptionist seemed annoyed at this request. Beds and pillows weren't the best as they were very hard . We also had constant issues or booking a spa treatment before our arrival as no one seemed to answer the phone . The grounds of the hotel and nice but tired and are need of a refreshment . Unfortunately me and my partner won't be back to stay as it was a very unwelcoming experience, if anything we'd only come back for the restaurant as it seems to be a whole different place compared to the hotel ,that is how different the service was. There was no proper greeting or goodbye either ,we handed in our key and the receptionist couldn't seem to care less whether we kept the key or not . Basically for the amount you'd spend on your rooms and food at the restaurant, book somewhere else as how your treated is not 4 star hotel quality.
Fantastic experience: Absolutely beautiful place. Food was top-notch. The manager and all the staff were all very helpful and accommodating and made my stay extra special as it was my birthday. Thank you all so much.
Positive experience: Booked as a birthday trip by my lovely partner. Firstly we’ll start with the spa. It is very rundown. In need of a makeover drastically! The jacuzzi was lovely, great temperature. The swimming pool was nice enough but take note they run water aerobics classes and also this spa is used for gym members as well. Who spent most of the time tutting about others using their pool. The sauna room had a note on the door saying out of order for 2 days and an engineer was on their way… they must have got lost as no one appeared for 2 days. Pool area was dirty and unmanned. Dirty cups left laying around, wet towels on the beds for hours meaning new guests couldn’t get a Lounger together. No fresh drinking water. At the start of the day 2 little fountains were filled up and not replenished. Appeared to be no one cleaning or manning the spa area. It was a let down to be honest. Treatments were nice. I however tried to book in advance and phoned 13 times to try and make a booking and no one ever got back to me or returned emails. My Partners therapist was abrupt and no friendly manner what so ever. When the treatment was finished she simply walked out the door. The changing rooms were filthy as well. I heard several people commenting on how dirty they were. Rubbish and wet towels left scattered around. The room itself was nice. The beds were 2 singles pushed together wish was slightly annoying. The shower kept running scalding hot and freezing cold. Burning you in the process. This continued throughout the stay.the hair dyer blew up. When I tried to phone reception. Surprise no answer. The restaurant and bar were lovely. Food was great. Couldn’t fault that or the service at all. There is an additional charge to most things on the menu though. Which would have been helpful to know prior to the booking. The bar staff were friendly and the Birthday cupcake was a lovely touch. Reception helpful and friendly, you have to check out and leave the hotel at 11am they should take note of spas such as life house where you check out but able to use the faculties until 5pm. It was a nice birthday trip but the hotel is out dated, dirty and in need of a makeover and some friendly therapists asap!!
Fantastic experience: Superb food and service. Wonderful rooms!
Fantastic experience: Two of us came here for a spa day and absolutely loved it. The food was delicious, the massage was excellent, and all of the staff were great. We enjoyed use of the swimming pool, steam room, sauna, relaxation rooms, as well as the lunch and treatment. The facilities were all clean and well-maintained, and we couldn't ask for more for a relaxation day.
Fantastic experience: Booked this hotel the day before flying, didn’t know what to expect. Travelling with my daughter and her 2 children 8/12. I can honestly say if you have children you will not be disappointed. The rooms are huge, staff are amazing, friendly , nothing is too much trouble. The entertainment during day and evening is brilliant, my grandchildren loved it. Slides are safe, lots of lifeguards. The spa has the best massage Theropist her name is Avina , I went every day. I have travelled quite a bit and can say the lady who done my massage has been the best I’ve ever had. Prices are good. My granddaughters also had Turkish baths and chocolate massages , in fact they had a few as loved them so much. I also had a facial that was lovely. If I had to say anything negative it would be I found the beds hard. Not to my liking. Apart from that it’s been one of the best children holidays we have had. Enjoy
Fantastic experience: We couldn’t have picked a better place to get married. The venue was stunning – just the right mix of romantic and relaxed. The team there were amazing too, super helpful and friendly from start to finish. Special thanks go to Ellie-May and Mikyla for their excellent timings and prep for the big day. Everything ran smoothly and the space worked perfectly for both the ceremony and reception. Thank you! A&T xxx
Negative experience: Very disappointed with my experience here. 4 star hotel but more of a 3 star, which is generous. Firstly, as you can see from all their reviews, the management is terrible and it is impossible to get through to their reception by phone, or was staff very welcoming on arrival. For a spa day, you will be left waiting around hours for treatments, main pool is too cold to use and the jacuzzi and lockers were broken. Would never return - avoid
Negative experience: The management at the spa is awful. I would avoid it at all costs. The staff are rude and will book your treatment without telling you the exact time, claiming they can’t communicate with you “according to their company policy.” It’s really poor communication from the hotel. They will just book your treatment at the spa at their own convenience. AVOID THE SPA AT ALL COST.
Negative experience: Pretty awful spa day experience all round, and dreadful service following a complaint about it. V difficult to book as I had a voucher and could only book by phone, but couldn't get through to anyone to book immediately - had to leave messages and wait for callbacks. Couldn't specify times for treatments (advised on arrival only), then found my friend and I had times one after the other rather than at the same time, due to lack of staff. Spa facilities in general a little tired and in need of some TLC - very underwhelming. Staff on spa reception spent the time I was waiting there for my friend, watching something on a phone and giving a running commentary to one other, squealing and being generally loud and totally unprofessional. My friend's treatment was just BIZARRE. No intro from the masseuse, no explanation of anything, no temperature check (it was a hot stone massage), lots of pauses almost like she was talking to someone, oil spilt over my friend's shoes, no response to a request to avoid an area of injury, messy attire (gym leggings and a long, baggy, woolly jumper that dragged all over my friend during the massage), no consistency (spent longer on one leg than the other but only did one hand), THEN when my friend breathed out having turned on her back, the masseuse said under her breath "Shut up". She then stopped the treatment and said "That's your hot stone massage over, don't go in the pool or shower for half an hour" (with her closed - all interractions were apparently with her eyes closed). My friend left the room and could then hear the masseuse singing loudly in the room behind her. I emailed to complain a few days later, followed up with further emails and calls and finally had my first response THREE MONTHS LATER. This was to offer a refund for my friend's treatment. I responded a few weeks later (delay due to a bereavement) agreeing, and then chased a month later having had no response again. I was then asked for a phone number to call to process the refund, which I immediately provided (early April), but have had no phonecall and despite a number of calls and emails since, this is still outstanding.
Fantastic experience: We had afternoon tea and visited the pool, steam and sauna area. Great service with pleasant and friendly staff.
Fantastic experience: Didn't use the rooms so can not comment went for a spa day I loved it the food was lovely grounds so well kept had a great day
Fantastic experience: This was my 5 try to take grandma to pontlands to try and celebrate her birthday, it was all booked for her 80th but covid was strongly around 81st, she got covid, then lost her confidence, but we made it and Grandma celebrated her 85th birthday instead. She felt it was so special and she was made so welcoming by the lady that served us. When the birthday plate came out that was also a lovely surprise for me as well as her. Her eyes shone like an excited child. Loved our outing and she asked for it for her 86th xxx
Fantastic experience: We had a lovely day at Greenwoods for a birthday celebration. Very relaxing our lunch was scrummy. The whole place was really clean & all the staff were friendly & helpful. I had a facial by the lovely Callie who was very knowledgeable about the treatment, we chatted & laughed throughout & l left feeling & looking great. 10 out of 10 to Callie. Overall we had a good experience & would definitely go back.
Negative experience: Booked this hotel as a surprise for my boyfriend’s birthday. Nice location, close to Chelmsford. However, we do not recommend and would not return. We checked in at 2:50 and was told our treatments are booked for 3pm, I was not notified this upon booking, I believed we could choose the time when we checked in, so it was a rush. The hot stone beds there are only 3 of so they were never actually available to use! The poolside was constantly busy even though this was mid day on a Thursday! So no sunbeds for a good while until someone moved, the sauna appeared not to be working also, it was only lukewarm. Food was ok, had better, waiters were nice. The sleep was non existent, we were in room number 2, every few hours in the night you could hear a door closing which was very loud! So we were constantly waking and could not settle! Best thing about this stay was the French toast in the morning, we left shortly after breakfast as we were knackered and did not want to stay any longer. Such a shame as this was not a cheap stay! P.s many reviews said the grounds were great, it took about 5 mins to walk around them, there was definitely nothing to look at except a broken fountain!
Positive experience: The hotel has a nice restaurant with amazing food. There's a beautiful garden and a good spa. The rooms have a pleasant decor, just like the rest of the house. The breakfast was overall good, as we had the option to order warm dishes, and there were sugar-free yogurts and cereals, together with actually fresh fruit. Some weaknesses: Lack of basic toiletries and amenities in the room. We were given only one shampoo and conditioner per room (tiny bottles barely sufficient for one person). There were no body lotion, shower cap and other toiletries typically given at hotels. The rooms have no fridge or safe. The blinds let in a LOT of light in the mornings. As a spa hotel, they really should provide slippers. Robes were provided, but the staff refused to replace them despite our robes being wet. Breakfast closing time at 9:30 is rather early for those who want to sleep in.
Negative experience: Have a look at their trust pilot rating. What a badly run place management not fit for purpose !! My god how it's deteriorated. Absolutely so unprofessional. I have waited for a meeting with Lucy since I suspended my membership. But to no avail. None of management are ever available. Firstly may I say the desk staff work hard and are generally very good. However certain staff. They are in my opinion less than useless The new gym manager what a joke. I remember her from the David Lloyd. The least said about her the better! And Rob who has never dealt with any problem or issue for me since I have been there. I will say Manny is excellent and a real hard worker. My main problem has been the poor running of the place and in particular the pool area. I have not been able to use the jacuzzi for a year. I had serious health issues. This was not isolated. Many members reported burning and rashes. I believe some members cancelled their membership. I never saw any one ever test the pool since being there for over a year. I really think they are short of staff or the staff concerned are just ineffective. Because of my concerns around health .I along with others will keep a big distance from this place. I might add my girlfriend went once and found the scum and dirt around the pool and spa area to be disgusting and would not come back. Could be a good place with decent managers. I hope the owner reads this. Note I have had a response on trip advisor which is the first response from Lucy the useless manager. I know this is not the truth as many members including some staff have reported serious issues with the jacuzzi. I think health and safety should be aware.
Negative experience: My friend and I visited the spa and had afternoon tea on a Thursday. The afternoon tea my friend had emailed in afvance about my allergies which were acknowledged, when we were shown to our table the server asked if we had any allergies as none were listed! When we said yes she eventually realised they were on another sheet. We were never asked if we wanted more tea. I felt the service was lacking. The spa I always here of people going and how good it is, hence booking it, however I can not work out how this is people's opinions. The toilets had no toilet paper or tissues to dry your hands. I reported this 3 hours after first noticing thinking such an amazing facility would check! The changing rooms had broken tiles, broken and peeling lockers, the dressing gowns had lots of threads, the soap dispensers were tarnished. The spa area was cramped there wasn't even 1cm between beds. The floors needed cleaning. There isn't even any music playing in the spa area. The sauna was the coolest I have ever been in. The steam room was nice.
Negative experience: Went away for a birthday treat was not happy with the room. Spent half the night listening to a mother and daughter blind drunk who at one point was laying in the hallway to the rooms laughing and screaming. They had already disturbed a guest who come out the room shouting at them at around 03:00am when mentioned as we was booking out I was told we should have gone to reception and they would have moved us ….. at 03:00 - 03:30 in the morning. No apology but rather it was my problem for not going to reception at that time and complaining.
Negative experience: I am a member and I enjoy my visits here but I have to say the customer service is the one complaint that always seems to come up! Communication is definitely an issue here!! The staff are polite and provided you only want to go in and use the facilities all seems well. It goes downhill when you have a problem and try to commuicate with them. Even trying to book a guest in on your membership becomes a big deal!! You cannot book them in at reception in advance (even the staff find this frustrating!), you have to ring in. There is never anyone to answer the phone so you always have to leave a message to enquire. Unless you have your phone glued to your hand it is very easy to miss the return call. I have spent a week trying to book someone in with constant backwards and forwards. Having been involved in customer service for many years I am aware that systems need reviewing from time to time. Secondly I have gone through two swimming costumes and showed a member of staff which appear to have faded due to being in the jacuzzi. The straps over the shoulder being the original colour of the design. The staff come along and put chemicals in it to reduce the foam whilst you are in it which seems quite disconcerting. I always wash my costume out when I get home. I attached a photo. I complained to reception and was advised to contact customer services as it goes straight through to the management which I have done so. This was over two weeks ago and to date have not received a reply!! Its such a shame.
Negative experience: Had a very disappointing experience here last weekend. Despite pleasant initial impressions of the hotel, the pool area itself was tired and smelly (like rotten water, not what you’d expect from a spa!), peeling paint outside the steam room, tired plastic chairs all round the pool which quickly became full. The treatment itself was very mediocre, it felt like the lady didn’t want to be there and she did the same moves repeatedly with very little pressure and no attempt at any friendly conversation. The food was excellent but the entire experience was ruined by the fact we returned to our room hoping for a great night’s sleep (I am heavily pregnant) to a 21st birthday party being held literally 3 metres in the function room from our room. Thumping music and screaming, chanting teenagers was not really the soundtrack I had expected to a spa that describes itself as offering a tranquil escape. In the morning I reported to reception in tears having had 3 hours sleep, only to be asked why I hadn’t come last night (at 11pm presumably) as I could have been moved. If there was room in the hotel why on earth would they put anyone in a room 3 metres from a very noisy function?! It beggars belief. We were refunded for some of our stay but not all though I would argue the entire experience was ruined by having a disco a few feet from my head at 37 weeks pregnant and the hotel not thinking ahead that no one would be happy with this. Really really upsetting as this was my one shot at a night’s sleep and it was taken away from me. For that reason I would suggest looking elsewhere.
Positive experience: Disappointing Stay at Greenwood’s Hotel and Spa Sadly, our experience at Greenwood’s did not live up to the 4-star standard we expected. The spa was dirty, tired, and badly in need of refurbishment — the sauna was broken, the loungers were all full, and the jacuzzi was dirty. While the bedrooms were nice, they felt a little tired, and the bathrooms were not particularly clean. Dinner was delicious and really salvaged the trip for us — had the dinner not been so fantastic, we would have been leaving a 1-star review. Having a drink before dinner in the older part of the hotel was a real highlight — it’s a shame the rest of the hotel doesn’t reflect the charm and character of that area. Unfortunately, breakfast the next morning was poor quality and service was very slow. Despite toast being listed on the menu and served to other tables, we were never offered any with our breakfast. The most frustrating part of our experience was the difficulty in communicating with the hotel. We tried for a week to get through on the phone with no answer, only receiving a call back after leaving multiple messages. When we finally spoke to someone, the receptionist was neither friendly nor apologetic, and we were told that no spa treatments were available due to being fully booked — and that treatments should be booked three months in advance. (How you are supposed to book anything when phones go unanswered is unclear!) Adding to the frustration, when walking around the spa area, every treatment room appeared empty, with doors propped open and chairs resting on massage beds — raising questions about whether they really were fully booked. Overall, Greenwood’s is badly in need of refurbishment, and the staff would benefit from further training. A disappointing experience and certainly not what you expect from a 4-star venue.
Positive experience: Let’s start with the spa! It’s. 1 star for me. The spa is outdated and not clean enough! The floors need a deep clean and the place doesn’t look like the pictures. The spa staff are not as friendly. They messed up my booking and it has to be the next day so it meant that I didn’t get the ropes the next day. They said if I have checked out then I can’t have the ropes even though I was supposed to het the treatment the day before but they messed it up so it meant I had to stay longer the next day and I had things to do. The sauna didn’t even work and they did not even tell us. This was for two days. The booking line none picks up and they get back to you the next day which is awful. The rooms I’ll gives 3.5 star. Beautifully designed but no AC. Also tha bathroom are not clean to 4 star standard. The bed was comfortable. The bathroom the sink and bath water did not drain properly. So I didn’t even use the shower I use the spa one which was not great but at least it drained. The food at the restaurant wasn’t that great they charged £6 for a small bowl of chips. Also the food wasn’t great. They charged me £3 to write happy birthday on a plate. The 3 course meal wasn’t great. I had a great time because I was always and making use of the things I payed for but this hotel is not a 4 star it’s more a 3.5 star.
Negative experience: Attractive hotel. Lovely staff. Evening food good. Breakfast terrible. Management non existent and don't respond to voicemails or emails.
Fantastic experience: I was the attending photographer at an event at Greenwoods. It proved to be an excellent venue. The staff were all really helpful and had made the room look beautiful. The sun was streaming in, and the gardens out the back made a perfect location for a family photoshoot before the event. All the guests seemed to be enjoying themselves! I look forward to visiting again some time soon.
Fantastic experience: A great hotel with nice spa facilities. Stopped here on business, and enjoyed staying here. Food & drinks were top notch. Nice pubs in the area too if you fancied a little pub crawl
Fantastic experience: Always pleasant and welcoming. I pop in regular for a coffee. It's very cosy, relaxed, and a small step away from the busy world
Fantastic experience: Had a wonderful stay to celebrate daughter’s milestone birthday. Food delicious, staff attentive, friendly and professional. The massages were the best we have ever experienced. Room was very clean although it got hot in the night but easily remedied opened the window.
Negative experience: Absolute joke of a hotel. You can Never ever ever speak to anyone. You have to leave a voicemail and wait for someone to call you back at random times of the day and hope that you’re available to pick up or you have to start the process again. Absolutely abysmal service
Positive experience: Relaxing Spa Break with a Few Minor Improvements We recently enjoyed an overnight spa break for two at Greenwoods Hotel and Spa, and overall, it was a lovely experience. Our room was nicely presented with a comfortable bed, though we did find it a little chilly with no apparent way to adjust the heating. The spa facilities were a highlight—both the pool and jacuzzi provided a wonderfully relaxing experience. The hotel itself was very clean with a welcoming atmosphere, and all the staff we encountered were friendly and helpful. Dining in the restaurant was a mixed experience. The premium steak was excellent and well worth the price, but as a vegan, I would have appreciated more than one main dish option. Similarly, the breakfast looked great for meat-eaters, but it would have been nice to see more interesting plant-based choices. Despite these small points, we had a great stay and would definitely return. Greenwoods is a fantastic place for a relaxing getaway, and with a couple of tweaks, it could be even better!
Fantastic experience: Was shown around and helped by Carly Niyazi who was fantastic and is a credit to the company. Give this woman a pay rise and get them a percentage commission for new members acquired if you are not already doing so!
Negative experience: Was bought voucher as a gift from a friend for the spa day, a treatment and lunch so I'm guessing must have cost over £130. The voucher was only valid 6 months which I didn't realise as every voucher I've ever had has at least a year or two to redeem but not at Greenwood's. I emailed who I assume is the manager as I was given her email by staff to be told they are refusing to honour the voucher as its 4 months out of date. Can't understand what difference it makes whether booked earlier or later other than pure laziness and greed. Going by other reviews looks like I've not missed much anyway. Crown plaza much better experience and they have lost money as a friend was going to book the same package. They've lost two more customers. Book at your perile!
Negative experience: I went for a spa day at Greenwood's last year which was really nice. The venue is lovely, the spa treatment staff are really good but the spa facilities are tired and could do with a refurb. The showers especially. I tried to book for a second visit and have never had such a stressful experience (basic fail when you're trying to book a spa). The only way to book with a voucher is to call. Don't bother emailing with your number either, staff clearly don't communicate with each other. So you call, you have to leave a message as NOBODY picks up the phone. I then call again because I didn't get any response... I eventually get a call back after days and speak to someone who has no customer service skills; no "thanks for your patience" or the likes. They can't give you a time when your treatments are booked so you don't know if you'll miss them before you've even arrived or need to stay late to get them (this wasn't like this when I went in November). If you don't call with enough notice there is no availability and you end up going round this phone call merry go round again once you've confirmed another date with friends. When you have the audacity to ask why calls backs take a while you are treated to a tirade on how staff work really hard... That was not my question. So days after cancelling my second booking I'm still waiting for a confirmation email. This place is not worth your time.
Positive experience: I did not stay here but went for a day spa. The booking process was a nightmare. You can book a package on line but not any treatment you would like, that has to be done by telephone. You are informed they are very busy and will ring you back. Turns out 3 days later! You pay up front but was not sent written confirmation for the additional treatments, had to ring up again. The spa itself is good, lovely heated stone beds. I had a really good facial. Shame the customer service in the restaurant where you have lunch does not match it. We waited one hour for our starters to arrive and that was after asking after half an hour when our starters would arrive. After complaints to the manager we were given a free drink. When it finally arrived the food was good. This is not the first time service here has been shocking but it will be the last I will not be returning. It was no better in the bar where he had tea before we left. Any relaxation achieved from my morning massage was ruined by my experience at lunch time.
Fantastic experience: I am not sure why there are so many negative reviews for this hotel and spa ,l was very apprehensive about our forth coming visit. Well we arrived home this morning after a 24 hour visit and would like to add that this is a beautiful place the rooms were stylish and clean with a comfortable bed, the spa was wonderful we had plenty of lounge beds to choose from, We were had towels and robes given to us. We had evening meal and breakfast the food was delicious, Staff were friendly and the service was good and staff helpful. Don’t be put off by these negative reviews , This place is brilliant and l will be returning.
Fantastic experience: My family treated me to a spa day for my birthday. We all had a luxury facial which was amazing. The afternoon lunch was ok but the staff were lovely. Spent all afternoon in the pool, suna and jacuzzi. It was a very relaxing day. Would highly recommend
Fantastic experience: We had a lovely one night break here for a little Babymoon break . We got there early had a lovely lunch by the fire in the lounge bar. Checked in at 2pm and was really pleased with our room huge in size and decorated lovely with a nice spa bath. Only down side to our room was it was really cold especially at night due to a draft from the single pane windows. Spa was lovely fairly small with a pool, one hot tub, sauna and steam room which my husband tried however considering this is no extra cost to use is great! Spa staff were really friendly explained where everything is gave robe & towels (bring your own flip flops!) and was even able to order drinks to have round the pool! All Staff at the hotel were all super friendly and welcoming. Had a lovely three course dinner included in our room price only had to pay for drinks food come very quick. Especially loved that the bar stocked non alcoholic gin and no-secco so I wasn’t stuck just drinking lemonade the entire time which was a pleasant surprise being pregnant . We read some mixed reviews before coming and we are really glad we didn’t let this put us off as we really enjoyed our stay it ticked all boxes for what we wanted.
Positive experience: Boats for overnight stay spa, evening meal and breakfast absolutely beautiful restaurant and service accommodation rooms. Superb The spa is very tired. Needs to be revamped the staff need more education in this area 4/10. The only downside of my stay it was my wife's 60th birthday so I ordered some beautiful flowers from the local florist stock florist 10/10 . Is that A twice? Phoned up to make sure the flowers were put in to my room on arrival so it would be a great surprise for my wife. Unfortunately this didn't happen. The reception staff are absolutely appalling. It just seems that that they don't want to be there. Lots of other apologies there are better spa venues in Essex. I will not be using this one again please do your research before you book hotel reception department need retraining You get one chance at it and they blew it
Negative experience: I am really upset to be writing this review, as I don't like to bad mouth company's, but I feel like I need to make people aware of the awful experience me and my husband have had at Greenwoods. We were booked for an overnight stay which included dinner and breakfast. If you have food allergies I would definately avoid Greenwoods. I am gluten free which I made the restaurant staff aware of several times. I ordered a soup to start and when they brought the soup they had placed bread on the top of it which was not gluten free, then at breakfast I ordered poached eggs and gluten free toast. The wrong order came out as they gave me poached eggs, hasbrowns, etc which I sent back. They came back less than a minute later with the poached eggs on a new plate, which had clearly been scrapped off the other plate as it still had hash brown crumbs on top of it. I was then told the gluten free toast wouldn't be to long, just under 10 minutes later my toast came out but the eggs were freezing. I decided to give up with the food as I don't like to complain and i just had a yogurt for breakfast. That morning me and my husband had to check out early as we had 2 treatments booked in straight after breakfast, as they had no treatment availability on the arrival day. After a terrible experience that morning, we wanted to relax and use the jacuzzi for 5 minutes after our treatments, we was then charged £40 for being in the jacuzzi for 5 mins after check out, even though the spa was empty and we had treatments booked in at the spa that morning. We thought 5 minutes in the spa to relax after treatments would be ok as greenwoods restuarant had made me feel unwell during my stay due to them not taking food allergies seriously; however, they insisted we had to pay the £40. The managers were really unhelpful saying the restaurant and spa are different departments and they can't get involved with each other, which is a terrible excuse and very poor customer service. They should deal with complaints as a whole as customers book with Geenwoods and not individual departments. Its just an excuse to pass the buck and not deal with complaints. I thought the whole experience was awful, I will be reporting them to the food standards agency, and I will never return to Greenwoods.
Positive experience: I agree with other reviews. I have visited three times and found the staff to be uninterested, except for an Italian waiter and a cleaner. The lounge and dining room are nice. The afternoon tea was lovely. The food in the restaurant was very good but a little sparse! The spa is good but it's a real 'do-it-yourself' job. No help from reception staff or signage on how to use anything - the cleaner actually helped us with the lockers. We never found the relaxation room, assuming it to be in the reception area. Changing area rather a squash and only one cubicle. We went for coffee after Christmas. It looked lovely. The coffee wasn't very hot but unable to attract the attention of the waitress. She didn't come over to check everything was ok and was busy with two other waiting staff, laughing and taking photos of each other. £4.95 and didn't even get a biscuit.
Fantastic experience: Fabulous day at the spa. Lunch was excellent. Staff friendly and attentive. Phoebe superb masseur. From arrival to departure 5 stars.
Fantastic experience: Thank you to owner of Greenwoods Spa. He gave mum a birthday voucher on her 83rd for another spa day and two course lunch for two. Sometimes people give a present and don’t realise how much it means. After a pretty rough day in the week this present was well and truly appreciated. Compliments to the chef the lunch was delicious. We have visited Greenwoods many times and definitely recommend it! Feeling rested and relaxed ♥️
Negative experience: I have to say I really am not pleased with this service. Upon booking for 1 night I was not notified of the restaurant being fully booked. I made the reservation and then recieved an email the following day saying the restaurant was fully booked and also they couldn't find my reservation, even after me sending them the booking number. Very very unprofessional and will not visit here again. Please be cautious and if you are thinking of booking here contact them prior of you want to arrange dinner in the restaurant. Never again.
Fantastic experience: What an amazing experience. I took my sister here for a pamper day and it was just perfect. We had access to the gym for a workout, the bar area for a pot of tea, followed by a nice walk around the grounds. Then off to the pool, spa and both dry and wet sauna before going up to the restaurant for an absolutely exquisite 3 course lunch. After that, we were treated to a luxury facial to finish off the wonderful sisters day! I will definitely be going back!
Fantastic experience: We went to the afternoon tea with Santa and it was amazing. Really nice food with beautifully decorated festive cakes, the service was brilliant and Santa and his elves were fantastic and they made the youngsters (and the old uns) day. Lots of activities to keep the youngsters entertained took place during the session too. Would highly recommend. Huge shout out to Manny and his team for giving us a truly memorable experience in a wonderful venue.
Positive experience: I recently stayed at this hotel for my birthday, and unfortunately, it didn’t live up to my expectations. While the atmosphere is cosy, lovely decorations, and one staff member upstairs (a friendly boy who greeted guests with “ciao” and a smile) stood out, the rest of the team seemed uninterested and bored. Downstairs at the spa, a helpful brunette did assist with any questions, but overall, the staff’s lack of warmth and hospitality left a lot to be desired. Despite notifying the hotel via email about my birthday, there was no effort to make the occasion special, even by the manager where usually hotels do. (Maybe a decorated plate in room or an upgrade as the hotel was empty or something) Even when I mentioned it to the waiters, there was no acknowledgment, not even a simple “Happy Birthday.” Instead, I was met with curt and unsmiling service. It was disappointing, especially given the premium price I paid for the stay and was cheaper from the normal cost as I bought off wowcher. The facilities were another letdown. The jacuzzi water was dirty, the pool’s fountain—advertised in photos—was off, and the sauna in the relaxation rooms didn’t work. To top it off, when I arrived, the bed in my room wasn’t even made, and the sheets were hanging on the floor and I had to tuck them in. These are basic expectations for any hotel, let alone one at this price point. While the hotel has potential with its cosy ambiance, the lack of attention to detail, poor service, and non-functioning amenities make it hard to justify the cost. Sadly, I wouldn’t return or recommend this hotel. For the price, I expected much better. Maybe just for a high tea only id go again, as the sofas are comfy, even though the fireplaces weren't even lit too..
Negative experience: Went for afternoon tea, which I booked over the phone as Christmas afternoon tea for my parents 19/12/24. Unfortunately it was just normal afternoon tea, so bit disappointed for my parents. The staff those you can not fault, they were helpful. However the sandwiches were dry & seemed they were left out quite a while before serving. The iced fairy cakes were dry too. We did come the week before with my Husband's parent which was perfect.
Negative experience: We booked a 2 night stay. The twin room I had continually asked for in several emails was never confirmed so consequently we were given a tiny room with a small double bed. We asked to move to a twin and they said they had one available but upon entering it was just a larger double bed?!? I booked 2 nights dinner in the restaurant but they only had one night booked which I had, again confirmed several times in an email AND a telephone call a week before, so we went to a pub on the second night which probably worked out better in hindsight as they only had one vegetarian option on the menu in the restaurant which was a pretty average mushroom risotto. The spa area looked tired and there seemed to be a lot of empty treatment rooms and yet they said they were fully booked. Couldn't believe there were no slippers so I had to wear my trainers. Most hotels have slippers, never known a spa not to. We asked for an itemised bill on checking out and they couldn't produce a printed version or email it, I'm sure legally they have to, very archaic computers where I then had to take photos off their screen. Overall the service wasn't great. It's a shame as the building and grounds are beautiful and with some thought and staff who are a little more on the ball it could be a great hotel and spa but I won't be returning or recommending. For £310 night we could have stayed somewhere much much nicer.
Fantastic experience: I accompanied my wife at the Xmas market fair recently, and staff were lovely and my wife had a great experience. I am also in weddings and events, and I noticed what a great event space, I look forward to returning. Highly recommended.
Fantastic experience: We both just had a lovely spa day here at Greenwoods. The food was delicious and the atmosphere was very relaxing. However, I do think there should have been a free drink with the meal.
Negative experience: I went to Greenwood’s hotel on 2 nd of November for a ladies night dinner and dance . Service very poor no water offered with food had to ask several times . Food was cold . Pasta was one clump congealed. When we got up to dance all our glasses with drinks were removed from our table . Also a lot of other people had the same issues . Unfortunately we had the same experience with on drinks on New Year’s Eve last year
Negative experience: We can't do that...what can you do?? You can't book more than 6 people in the lounge bar, yes this includes a high chair. You can't 2 tables together of 4 & 3 people as they cant (or more like won't) go out of their way to get you booked even for a returning guest. You can't spend £250+ on afternoon tea for 6 on a Monday lunchtime so I've booked elsewhere. You can't get good customer service from Ebony, rather turn you away than give any customer service. Try to support the local business rather than the big chain services but this is what you get. One thing you won't be getting - me and my money returning here. Reading the reviews, this place has gone downhill. Good luck for the future.
Positive experience: Beautiful place, staff were amazing, food was great, spa was a little busy but wasn't too much of a problem. A massive issue was that I did not sleep at all. I made a compliant and nothing ever come of it. A bunch of rowdy, drugged up, chauvinistic boys (i say boys as they acted like it) with one making me feel incredibly uncomfortable in the spa. They were in the room next to me and oh my god they did not shut up all night. My door was kicked, arguing all night, shouting at the top of their lungs just to name a few. I called down to reception twice in the early hours and they only visited the room once to tell them to keep the noise down. Obviously nothing ever come of it which led me to going downstairs at 5am only to be told to speak to the manager who was not on site at that time. I did not sleep at all. I left the hotel as soon as I could and as lovely as it was, I will not be coming back as the staff/security did not know how to handle the situation correctly. Considering I was a single woman with about 5-6 men in one room I expected a bit more care. Many thanks
Fantastic experience: We stayed here overnight end of October. The staff were very welcoming and friendly. The room was spacious, clean with a large comfy bed. The spa was lovely, it was busy, but we didn’t have to wait long to use any of the facilities, sauna, steam room or jacuzzi. The restaurant meal was amazing, photos below. I paid the supplement for the sirloin steak, was well worth it. The grounds were amazing and well kept. I thought the drink prices at the bar were pretty good for the location. Loved the breakfast too. Overall we highly recommend an overnight package and hope to return! We had two 15 minute massages that were very pleasant. Top tip, remember to take some sliders, slippers or sandals to wear from room to space.
Fantastic experience: It's a very nice hotel. I had a lovely room and view, with good facilities and a spa. It's certainly worth considering if you want to stay in the area.
Negative experience: Husband booked a spa day here as a birthday treat. He and I spent 30 minutes at the ‘spa’ before turning around and leaving. Reception were uninterested on arrival and looked bored to be there. We went down to the spa and told there were no robes available as they were being cleaned. We weren’t given any slippers or flip flops so had to walk around bare foot on the floor that was wet and quite hairy/grubby feeling. The locker rooms were tired with tiles coming off the wall and half the lockers weren’t working. I had to wait for a kind lady to unpack hers as she left so I could use one. I’m not sure why they call it a spa, because it’s essentially a leisure centre pool with a tiny jacuzzi that’s never available and some grubby sun loungers. We sat around the pool for 10 minutes, crammed in like sardines because it was so busy and then spent the rest of the time trying to find the relaxation room, there was no one in reception to ask so we wandered around in our towels bare foot trying to find it. The relaxation room is a cupboard with 3 loungers in it, two were taken so we couldn’t use it. We were supposed to have massages but we cancelled and asked for our £200 (yes, really!!) back. Luckily the manager was very helpful and refunded us immediately. The price tag doesn’t measure up to the experience at all. Won’t be back!
Positive experience: After a lovely nights stay after celebrating the last part of my 40th! Has now turned into a bit of nightmare, so when checking out and handed our keys back they said there was a charge of £14ish to our room. well not sure how that happened, either some cheeky person tried there luck to put a charge on our room or a mistake from staff, ok we didn't pay for this but maybe before asking people check your cctv cameras or ask people for ID for there rooms before accusing people Next issue half way down the A12 on our way home we get a phone call to say we haven't paid for the spa treatments, shocking as we paid on this on the 21st September using vouchers we had! Maybe the staff need to complete a research before phoning customers and upsetting them to advise them of this. Unfortunately of this experience especially when I love a spa, this has now put me off coming here, due to the lack of communication from staff between each section to this hotel! Also yesterday around the pool area there was not enough loungers for everyone to use, some customers had to bring some chairs from outside to bring around the pool area, I think this hotel had over booked as there wasn't enough for everyone! Such a shame to this hotel as I heard so many great reviews.
Positive experience: A relaxing and well maintained spa with a decent restaurant. I stayed overnight in a Premier room. Bed was queen sized and comfy, and the room was a good size with a luxury feel. The spa pool is decent, with a sauna, jacuzzi and steam room, and outside seating area. It could use more seats / loungers though as during my stay there wasn't enough for all guests. The treatments are thorough and professional, staff are happy to adjust to your comfort. Though again the accompanying relaxation rooms need more seating to accommodate everyone. The restaurant is very good, a small room and short menu but well executed. For both breakfast and dinner food was served very promptly. Take time to relax in the bar lounge afterwards, the seating is cosy and welcoming. Wider cocktail choices (just 3 available) would be a really good addition to the drinks menu. The only downside is the lack of signs anywhere. Being the converted building that it is things are laid out unusually and trying to find rooms, toilets and other facilities is more difficult than it should be without decent signage. A very good spa hotel that with a couple of tweaks could be great.
Negative experience: I tld my husband I wanted to go somewhere with a steam room for our anniversary. He booked a spa day here as a surprise. We arrived and couldn't figure out how to work the Jacuzzi as it wasn't on. My husband had to go to spa reception to ask and was told it is set on a timer. The steam room which was really the only reason we came was out of order. When my husband asked the spa reception why he wasn't told before coming as we would have rescheduled, he was told it was supposed to be fixed and they will get back to him about what can be done. We went for lunch after only spending only 1.5 hours at the spa and decided we just wanted to go home due to the disappointment of there being no steam room. On the way out my husband asked again regarding the steam room that was out of order to be told there was in fact another in the relaxation room which is in another section and apparently someone came to find us and tell us but we had gone to lunch??? As a spa you need to make use of having signage around that will benefit your customers. We should not have to go to reception to find out how the jacuzzi works. The fact the the spa staff themselves couldn't even tell us there was apparently another steam room in the relaxation area is an absolute joke. Please tell what they are paid to do other than sit around and talk to one another. A simple sign stating what facilities you have and where would have changed our experience completely and we would have made use of our 'spa day'. This trip was the biggest waste of money and we will never be back. What a disappointing anniversary I had.
Fantastic experience: To celebrate my 50th , my friend booked a spa day with treatments and lunch . I had my treatment with Cara who was lovely and very knowledgeable about the products . Lunch was incredible ! Definitely recommend three courses, as every dish was presented beautifully and tasted amazing . The chefs clearly have passion for cooking ( I recommend the prawn crayfish tian , Seabass and biscoff cheesecake ) Waiting staff in the restaurant and bar were welcoming . Swimming pool and jacuzzi area are clean and worth a visit . We ended the day with a drink at the bar and scones ! Thank you Greenwoods for a superb day and we will be returning very soon
Positive experience: Booked a spa day for 6, attempted to call on many occasions prior to our arrival to book a pregnancy massage as this wasn’t doable on line at the time of booking the spa day with lunch. 3 messages left for the spa, never received a call back. Eventually I went through reception to be put through to the spa, tried to book the massage was told no availability. One of my party also called the spa 15 mins after me via reception, as she couldn’t get through to the spa either, and was told they had availability. ♀️ The robes that were given to us looked tatty and in need of replacement. Not enough loungers around the pool, due to how many people were in there and 2 of us had to sit on chairs. The chlorine fumes from the jacuzzi were stinging our eyes that we got out after a few minutes. The loungers are so close to the pillars by the pool that people with mobility issues would struggle to manoeuvre between the pool, jacuzzi & steam room. Ordered non alcoholic Prosecco but was bought alcohol. The Lunch was very good. Apparently the Massage was nice. I will not be going back to Greenwoods. Very over hyped for what it is.
Fantastic experience: We went for a spa day with afternoon tea. It was wonderful. Lots of facilities available. The afternoon tea to die for. Delicious and plenty of it. We had to box cakes up to bring home.
Positive experience: Service, grounds, location and food were all great. Massage spa treatment was very good. But regarding the spa area, I found there wasn't much guidance on what to do and where to go. There is no clear direction and a bit of a maze for people who've never been there. The locker room was in need of a revamp. Pool, sauna, steam room, and sun terrace were all great.
Fantastic experience: Gorgeous place! We were attending a wedding and it was absolutely gorgeous the food was so tasty. All the staff were very polite.
Fantastic experience: We’ve just got back from a very relaxing and lovely stay at this spa. The facilities are clean and well maintained. Not overcrowded so could use everything whenever we wanted. Staff are very friendly. Beautiful grounds. We had a standard room but pleasantly surprised how big it was. The dinner was just delicious, beyond our expectations. Will be coming back, for sure!
Fantastic experience: Had a spa night last night. Can’t fault our stay at all , our room was lovely food was excellent, staff was absolutely fantastic had a great laugh with a few of them. Enjoyed our walk round the grounds. Loved the lounge bar enjoyed our full body massage. Loved Bruno the dog. Ps don’t forget to walk him now and then .
