Our comment from FitFit UK about Oldpost Workspace:

Oldpost Workspace in Redhill, UK is a charming café and community space that offers a unique blend of delicious food, excellent coffee, and a welcoming atmosphere. With ample parking and a lovely courtyard, it provides a perfect spot for relaxation. Customers have praised the café's friendly staff and the quality of the food, especially the artisan sandwiches and delightful cakes. Many users appreciate the café’s chic and contemporary decor, making it a great place for both casual visits and more formal meetings.

While most reviews are positive, some concerns have been raised regarding menu limitations and the café's dog policy, which has disappointed a few pet owners. There have also been comments about occasional delays in service, particularly during busy times.

Despite these minor drawbacks, Oldpost Workspace remains a treasured location for locals and visitors alike, known for its cosy ambiance and high-quality offerings. Customers often mention it as a favorite spot for lunch or coffee breaks and appreciate the efforts of the staff to create a welcoming environment.

Fantastic experience: A lovely cafe with ample parking and good selection of food/drinks. Lucky to have something like this in the area.

Fantastic experience: No cash accepted; cakes are lovely but the coffee and artisan sandwiches are fabulous. And the courtyard seating with the sound of waterfalls so relaxing in the sunshine. This is my preferred lunch stop whenever I’m in Redhill with time on my side.

Negative experience: I recently visited this cafe in the area and was extremely disappointed with my experience. Despite the fact that they had tiled flooring, they did not allow any dogs inside the premises, even small (clean) ones. This is a huge disappointment considering that the culture is rapidly changing towards more dog-friendly environments, and it is becoming increasingly common for cafes to allow pets inside. The limited menu options on the day we arrived only added to our frustration. It's frustrating to pay a premium for food and drinks only to find that there are hardly any options available. It was a huge letdown and left us feeling dissatisfied with the entire experience. The fact that this cafe doesn't allow dogs is a huge downside, and we won't be returning anytime soon. With so many other options in the immediate area, and Redhill that are becoming more pet-friendly, there's no excuse for a cafe to be so restrictive towards customers with pets. I hope the management of this cafe will reconsider their policy and move towards a more inclusive and modern approach. Until then, I cannot recommend this cafe, especially to pet owners looking for a comfortable place to grab a bite and relax.

Hi Scarlett,

I am sorry that you were left disappointed by your visit.

I will aim to help you understand why your statement below is misinformed, and to give important context to other customers who will read your feedback.

''there's no excuse for a cafe to be so restrictive towards customers with pets''

Please let me share with you just some of the dynamics we carefully maintain in order to be inclusive as possible. I will illustrate why letting dogs inside makes it impossible for us to provide an inclusive and safe environment for all users of our building.

Olpdost is a shared space which operates Cafe, Fitness, Retail, Office & Events making it fundamentally different to a standard cafe requiring us to manage a multi business, multi activity environment within the confines of our insurances and expectations of customers and landlords. It is very difficult to always get this balance right but I wish to reassure you that such decisions are approached pragmatically with the aim of being as inclusive as we can. This means we must respect everyones values, including your own, which we do. This in essence is what you are explaining is important but you have not taken the time to ask for more context in your review.

Oldpost is a HQ hosting a number of small businesses who occupy the offices upstairs and whom often have meetings within the Cafe space. It is therefore important we provide a hybrid professional space which allows them to hose meetings / helps them to incubate and grow their businesses in an environment in which we try (where possible) to limit noise. Barking, which might not be an issue with all dogs, but certainly is with some is inhibiting for those hosting meetings.

Another example of why it is difficult to allow dogs inside is due to our parent & baby focussed fitness classes which often mean newborn babies are asleep in car seats on the ground whilst guardians are able to do a fitness class for a well deserved moment. We have had occasions in the past where inquisitive (but friendly) dogs have been face to face with babies on arrival to the premises which presents a less than reassuring environment for guardians as well as a genuine safety concern and potential source of avoidable conflict between parties.

We have also had examples of owners bringing dogs into the premises without leads which is not always a comfortable or predictable for other customers.

We love dogs and its with great consideration that we try to balance being as inclusive as possible with the genuine safety concerns we have a responsibility to manage.

These considerations as well as the question...
Where do you draw the line? Which dogs do you allow inside? What size do you not allow inside?
These nuances become problematic when you do not have clear guidelines which can be effectively communicated....

We decided to be dog friendly in our courtyard 8 years ago so I like to think we were more forward thinking than most for a lot longer than most - however as much as we love dogs for the reasons outlined above we cannot allow dogs inside the Cafe.

With regards to your comments on the menu. Taken with the context you have provided I would ask why you would pay a premium for food and drinks before you realised there are hardly any options available?
The quality and price of our menu is not related to the depth of offering we should, in your opinion, be offering customers. I would also urge you to understand how the last few years have impacted small businesses before you write such reviews without important context and some empathy for what we, and others, have done to exist.

I really do hope you will give great thought to your review, its impact and the intention behind your review.

Kindest regards,
Oldpost Management

Fantastic experience: Lovely place for a coffee and cake. Stopped in with my kids around 10.30 one morning, it was lovely a quiet and the staff were impeccable. Helpful and polite at every opportunity. I had a chai latte and slice of cake and a babychino for little one. The drinks were the right temperature for the age and tasted amazing (my daughter was thrilled with the number of marshmallows). The cake was gorgeous and a very generous portion!! Will be going back again for lunch one day the sandwiches and other items on show (and on the menu) looked amazing. Good size car park but not can be busy and quite muddy. Toilets available with baby change facilities. Most is buggy friendly and on one level but the area to pay and order is down a couple of steps.

Fantastic experience: What a lovely place. Very chic and contemporary inside. A complete suprise. Wonderful selection of cakes. Great coffee. The ladies taking our order were so welcoming and friendly. My mum has dementia and they even put on my mum's favourite tunes to compliment her stay. Everything was a delight.

Fantastic experience: Popped in for an impromptu coffee. The first thing that strikes you is the tasteful decor. Understated and not cluttered. A beautiful indoor space and the courtyard is serene. Service was superb. Coffee was exceptional and served in gorgeous cups. We’ll be back soon and thoroughly recommend visiting. Well worth the trip if you’re passing through, live local or come from further afield.

Fantastic experience: We were a prebooked table of eight people on the last Saturday before Christmas, meeting for a family catch-up with some of us being from as far away as Cornwall. When we arrived we were told with profuse apologies that they were two members of staff down and that there would be an hour wait. This was absolutely fine as they prewarned us and it gave us all a chance to catch up. The food arrived within the time they said it would and it was well worth the wait. All of our dishes were absolutely delicious and very generously proportioned. The service was excellent and despite being exceedingly busy, all the staff were super friendly. I would highly recommend The Oldpost. Thank you to the staff who were there on Saturday and I wish you all a very merry Christmas.

Fantastic experience: Very pleasant and delightful place to get tea and cake or light lunch. Everything is hand made. Recommend the baked potato, but they sell out quickly. There is also a craft shop selling a few things for the house. This building is also a bit of a community centre (e.g. yoga classes). The staff are wonderful, as is the setting, which feels like it is in the countryside.

Positive experience: Warm and cozy spot I stumbled upon.

Amber Eldridge 8 years ago

Negative experience: Poor menu, one thing I did want was a jacket potato and they had none. Staff very unfriendly and unapproachable, it felt like it was an effort for them to serve us. For a fitness place the menu did not provide any substantial fitness foods. The food was brought out within about 2 minutes of ordering, making it very clear no preparation or love was put in to our food. The staff did not ask if anything was ok and the plates where not cleared even after half an hour of finishing our meals. We where served a soggy baguette and a packet ceaser salad. We were left feeling very unsatisfied. The two stars have been awarded to the gift shop and the nice interior. I will not be returning. Save yourself the misery and go green room in Godstone.
