Everlast Gyms - Barnsley

Negative experience: I strongly advise you to avoid joining this gym; heed my experience. I was engaged for merely three days. I am presently paying 58 pounds monthly; they refused to terminate my membership. Except in the case of a medical condition or the provision of relocation documentation. They furnish you with a 24-page contract that impedes your capacity to terminate.

Fantastic experience: Love this place. It's a huge space but with plenty of high quality equipment. Even the music they play is decent. There are saunas and a swimming pool, and the changing rooms are clean and spacious.

Positive experience: Recently re-joined Everlast. Very friendly gym Tried a few other gyms but always end up back here. Equipment could do with an update and the hours aren’t great.

Positive experience: Gym is good because it isn't rammed like some other commercial gyms. Place is due a refresh. Nothing has changed since it was DW gym, 15 years ago. Some of machine need replacing aswell. Looking ABIT tired.

Positive experience: The equipment is ancient and run down, in fact so is the whole place. The car park is a nightmare too.

Fantastic experience: Fist time in years that I’ve been in a gym and they are the nicest people I could have asked for I’ll be back Wednesday for my next session I would recommend to anyone

Fantastic experience: Great gym great atmosphere

Positive experience: For the cost, can't really beat this gym. Gym is neat and tidy, with a decent selection of equipment. It's never too busy which is great. The staff are genuinely lovely, which is a big change from other gyms I've been to. The pool is a big benefit for the price, and while it's a little small and generally full of classes it's still a benefit. I'd say this is a gym for casual gym goers, rather than bodybuilders, and if you found the other nearby gym overwhelming this might be a better choice. Couple gripes I have. First, the temperature is super high for a gym. It's between 20-21 degrees inside. I started in December so I've no clue how bad it is in summer. I hope they can put the air con on! Second, there's generally a lot of kids running around the changing rooms. Not necessarily a huge deal but worth noting for those who would be bothered.

Fantastic experience: Awesome

Negative experience: Joined in September purely to use the pool. Not had much joy with it seen as kids lessons are every single night and then all day on a weekend. Truly disappointing from an adults gym that doesn’t take members in to consideration, just focus on their money making from kids lessons. Really disappointed with the schedule. Wouldn’t be so bad if it was certain evenings or just one day on a weekend. The current schedule makes the pool unusable as the kids lessons take up 2/3 of the pool. Had to cancel my membership as I feel it isn’t worth paying for something I can’t use. Disappointing. Every member I have spoken to shares these views too. Staff are friendly though which is nice.

Negative experience: Joined year ago, no natural light in the gym and machines often broke, 2/3 of the pool is taken up by swimming classes if you get more than 4 in swimming its full, over the last year the pool and sauna have been out of action a lot and when asked if any compensation I was very abruptly NO READ THE T&C's. Just cancelled my membership, unfortunately like most once they got your money they don't care.

Negative experience: Went on a free day pass - best thing about it was that it was free and the guy at the desk was decent and helpful. The equipment is all over the place, nothing has set areas, there’s not much range other than a big cardio area right in the middle and then weight training just scattered in the rest of the space. A lot of the weight training equipment that is available is old, rusty, numbers worn etc. It didn’t feel very clean in the gym. The music is as you expect at a commercial gym - crap. It’s very dark and doesn’t have good vibes. Weights not racked by users after usage etc. I think if it had some money spent on it and a big makeover it could be a good gym - but it’s not worth the money as it is and I won’t be going back. There are much better gyms in the area like The Gym Group that provide more, useable, clean equipment at a lower cost. At the minute this gym just feels like it’s there to make whatever money they can without spending anything for the customers.

Positive experience: Lots of old equipment and the lack of a calisthenics area reduces the quality of an otherwise pleasant and spacious gym. Warm staff certainly help bring up the mood!

Positive experience: Good gym good equipment some need updating but overall ok

Negative experience: Steem room out of order since April no update.The only good thing was left after the jacuzzi being shut down

Negative experience: This gym needs immediate modernization. The price compared to the equipment available at Everlast Barnsley is a joke! - the leg press machine which is located in the corner is so close to the mirror that you can't put the plate in normally and right next to it there is a smith machine which in turn gets in the way on the other side - there are definitely too few dumbbells, smaller weights such as 2kg, 4kg, 6kg are available in one pair. 20kg, 22, 24, there are 3 pairs each, but let's face it, a minority uses such weights, so 1 pair of these would be enough, and there should be more small weights - shaky benches, they sway, people put small plates under them and then there are no small plates because they are under the benches - there are definitely too few benches in front of the mirror! 4 benches?! not funny joke - forget that you will find any warm-up bands there - there is no spray to disinfect the equipment, nor any paper towels - I have no signal on my phone at this gym, no network, especially in the corner with free weights and these 4 swinging benches - lat-pulldown machine: the maximum lowered pads are still too high, because it is an old, post-war machine. - You can't see how much weight you're lifting because the markings are worn off - a hip thrust machine located in such a place that a huge TV hangs above you, if it breaks off, no one will recognize you during the autopsy - assisted kneeling dip - you can't insert the pin in the 35kg class because there is already something inside and it is broken, of course there are no weight markings here either - the buttons on the elliptical trainer's screen do not work - the gym floor has never been mopped, there is huge mess and dust behind the equipment in the corners - mirrors are dirty, especially in the stretching corner - the bathrooms are washed too rarely, they are dirty, there is often a lack of paper, and the dryer in the women's room is barely alive, the light there blinks like a strobe - the lockers are coin-operated, which often stays inside - the equipment is old and there is not enough of it, one station for barbell squats - no hack squat machine, basic equipment in my opinion - there are various strange benches near the corner with bikes where even the staff don't know how to use them - hyperextension bench is not adjustable, you have to be tall to use it properly - a new Everlast has opened in Rotherham, this is what every Everlast gym should look like... I think it's unfair to pay the same amount for two gyms of different quality that have the same name, so I'm happy to move to the newly opened PURE gym in Barnsley

Negative experience: STEAM ROOM NEVER WORKS STAFF LIE ABOUT PLANS TO FIX IT, BEEN WAITING TWO MONTHS FOR STEAM ROOM DEFINITELY CANCELLING MEMBERSHIP IF NOT RESOLVED IN THE NEXT 7 DAYS!! (AS IF THE DIRTY CHANGING ROOMS & SHOWERS IS NOT ENOUGH TO DEAL WITH)

Negative experience: Every month, they have problems with the pool and sona,and the staff is always rude when you ask for help

Positive experience: Went yesterday on a trial. Atmosphere is great and the staff are sound. Some of the equipment needs replacing it’s quite outdated. Going to wait to see how the pool and steam room is before signing up. Should be done by end of next month

Negative experience: Mediocre gym. Both jacuzzi’s out of order. Little atmosphere compared to some gyms. Some good equipment, some not so good. Bench press dangerous as can easily return bar over top onto your own head. Poor design. Incline bench is unstable shakes about all over making it very dangerous - needs sorting

Fantastic experience: All the staff are are outstanding in the performance there carry out ,but there is one that stand out the most ,her name is Courtney she goes beyond the line of duty to make sure everyone around her gets the best of her knowledge very proud to know this person well done

Fantastic experience: Staff have been brilliant since we joined so our daughter could go swimming. They always remember her and couldn’t be more helpful. Even got a hairdryer for our daughter so didn’t have to dry her hair in changing rooms. Staff always smiling and genuinely friendly. Morgan deserves a special mention as she is brilliant with daughter. Daughter is 8. Always loads of parking. Showers always hot. At £45 for me (Dad) and daughter per month it is cheaper than £14 a week for swimming once a week. We go several times a week now so great value

Positive experience: Enjoy using the pool just gets over crowded especially when children are doing there lessons and the parents are watching can be off putting.

Negative experience: It has been very poor lately can't remember when the hot tub was last working and the steam room wasn't working last week always kids having lessons in both parts of pool so never room to swim may aswell go to a cheaper gym without a pool

Fantastic experience: Tried a few gyms in Barnsley and this is my favourite. There’s plenty of decent quality equipment and the staff are all really nice, especially Morgan who made me feel really welcome during my first session and is always happy to help or have a quick chat with a big smile on her face. Great service well done

Negative experience: many improvements can be made, there is no investment in the gym... the machines are very old, many benches are not stable, the calf machine wobbles, the shoulder machine is always broken... the water in the pool is sometimes too cold, and in the solarium, the plexiglass that covers the neon lights was a bit dirty on the inside instead, the staff is very kind

The place has a great feel about it and ticks all of my boxes so I signed up there and then whoop thank you looking forward to my first swim.

Negative experience: This used to be a great gym when owned by DW since being taken over by everlast it's rapidly going down hill, the main reason for this is the staff the majority are very professional the minority aren't up to the point of pulling faced behind your back being rude and defence when asked simple questions.needless to say I will be leaving.
