Bromley Martial Arts Academy (Black Belt School)

Fantastic experience: We have been attending Bromley Martial Arts Academy since May 2021. My 8 year old Son always enjoys and looks forward to going to class. The classes are run by Sensei who is kind, firm but fair, and always looking to motivate and teach the students. We learn discipline, respect, punch/kick techniques, and we always feel energized after class. Locations for the class are great for us (we live in Chislehurst), I highly recommend. Adults are also welcome to train and take part in order to get fit and learn techniques and new skills.

Fantastic experience: Great club with a real discipline to learning and supporting them to progress. The Sensei takes a genuine interest in the kids and helps give them both the confidence and skills to both learn martial arts but also self defence. As a parent of a child who has been bullied, is very anxious and shy, this class has already given him the tools to defend himself and reinforces disciplines like respect, dedication and motivation.

Fantastic experience: We have been with Bromley Martial Arts Academy for a very long time now and since the very first day we have felt very welcome and a part of the Chi Combat family (not just clients of a business). It was our third trial with local businesses and we liked it straight away. It's a very friendly and family-like business. It is also a very good value for money as children can attend as many classes as they want during the week. The classes are never boring and include varied techniques and styles, nunchuck, self-defence, sparring and team games on top of the usual drills. The children gain a lot of confidence and self-discipline and progress systematically through grading, working their way up towards black belt. Every year there is a wonderfully organized Christmas party and other social events for all the families of children attending the classes. Chi Combat truly feels like a family, teaches invaluable lessons and I cannot recommend it enough.

Positive experience: My son has attended this academy for well over a year and his confidence has greatly improved. He enjoys the variety of the class and I think the discipline is very good. O' Neil helps the kids to understand the best way to defend themselves if they feel threatened which I think is essential. Highly reccomended. (Nicola Osinaike)

Fantastic experience: My daughter has been going for a while and O'Neill is a very passionate teacher who is firm but fun. The children really seem to enjoy themselves and the classes are both varied and inclusive.

Fantastic experience: O’Neil is creating a martial arts family where children are encouraged to respect one another and their instructors. Learning to master martial arts techniques, focus and self confidence are all taught and the children are encouraged to support one another and learn from each other. My son has enjoyed every class for the last 3 years. Would recommend these classes to anyone who asked me.

Fantastic experience: My son loves going. He is not the strongest for his age but they encourage and help him to improve his confidence, patience, resilience and boost his core strength and balance. Which is what we were looking for.

Fantastic experience: My son has been part of the acadamy for 3years now. When he joined before he turned 5 it was to help him gain confidence & to train under the programme of “little ninja’s”. The classes were friendly & enjoyable learning basic techniques for defence, attack & agility. He now attends classes once or twice a week has progressed in belt ranking & is aiming for his black belt in the coming months. He has his own goals. He wants to achieve. He has a fantastic level of fitness & focus thanks to the academy and O’neill’s training programme. All the instructors are friendly & informative for any child who wants to learn the martial arts techniques of chi combat & progress within it.

Fantastic experience: Very family friendly and encouraging respect and good manners from everyone. Lessons are fun as well as being a great way of training. Everyone is made to feel welcome and involved.

Fantastic experience: Trained there for over 18 months now. Good classes with lots of variety: sparing, hand and leg techniques, self defence, nunchaku, etc. Also get plenty of individual guidance and support.

Fantastic experience: Excellent martial arts school. My daughter is learning kickboxing and loves it. She was made very welcome and has made lots of new friends. The instructors are very friendly, helpful and very knowledgeable. The school gives the first lesson free, as a taster. They also hold fun social events so that you can meet other students. This is a great club and the kickboxing helps with all round fitness and stamina. They also include self defence as part of the training. Check out their Facebook page for photos and more info.

Negative experience: Classes are not great our son went for a little while but didn't really learn much. It seems very hot and miss in the teaching style. Seems like they just want money and don't want to give much in return. I found Maria very abrupt and do not see how she can assist in teaching the class. Go elsewhere we have!

Negative experience: Booked a 'free' trial lesson. Trying out a couple of martial arts classes in the Bromley area to see which would suit me best. Had to chase up a response. Got a curt response from Maria telling me that I will have to pay £5 for the first class. I sent a screen grab of the website where they offered a free class to try it out and she responded saying that the website was wrong and that they had been operating like this for a year. I then received another email reminding me about my 'free' class. I just called to clarify and was told 'that was an automated email, I've spoken to you about this before, it's £5 as a lot of people waste our time.' I advised that they update their website and apparently they get hundreds of people through the door and I am the first person to complain. Needless to say, I'm going elsewhere. Plenty of other reputable martial arts classes in the area for beginners like me, who are more welcoming, friendly and run far more professionally.
