Fantastic experience: Joined Lanes in May and think it's a fantastic gym. The club has a really welcoming feel, lovely friendly members and I feel really comfortable and welcome here. I've previously used smaller, cheaper gyms and wasn't inspired to go regularly, but the Lanes is so worth the monthly membership as I enjoy being there. The gym area and lovely pool have big windows overlooking the golf course and lake and i find it really relaxing and calming working out with that lovely view. It's got the best gym equipment that I've ever used in a gym , plenty of exercise machines, I've never found the treadmills, cross trainers or rowing machines full and have never needed to wait to use weights machines. There are so many machines available and such extensive equipment that I never get bored and can have a really good varied work out. I was given a great gym induction with Andy and he spent alot of time showing me all the weights machines, (even a few scary looking ones!) and i felt really confident using them all after that. He was really knowledgeable and helpful. I'm a runner /cyclist and was mainly joining to use gym equipment , swim. However, the classes are so good, that I'm now regularly doing Cycle spinning classes, yoga and even tried Latin Dance. The studio used for classes has lovely lighting , it's especially calming for yoga. all the classes i've tried are great, with really inspiring instructors. I work full time, but find there are plenty of classes that I can get to, either early morning or evenings. Even when I'm tired after work, once I get to the classes, I'm always glad that I went to them!

Positive experience: Good range of cardio gear and nice pool. Many classes are always full during the day so you need to get in early as soon as they become available to book. The membership technology is flaky and you have to use a horrible mobile app for access and class bookings. I tried the cafe once and won't use it again - bad coffee and a dry sandwich. It's good value,but far from perfect

Fantastic experience: I had my first gym session with Kez and he was incredible. He made sure to give me the best experience through learning how to use all the gym equipment, great advice and also building a friendship. He was very kind and I would highly reccomend to anyone from new comers to experienced.

Fantastic experience: I have now been with Lanes for over 4 months, and really enjoy coming here using the gym and the other facilities. All of the staff are extremely lovely and very helpful. I had a massage with Key for the first time and such a lovely lady! Best massage i have ever had i look forward to using her in the near future! Also shout out to Kazim on the food counter very kind and lovely! Also to the young lad who is one of the cooks his food is delicious and really enjoy the food menu here. One happy customer!

Negative experience: Left before due to poor customer service and tried to join again but even at the sign up their service was poor leaving me to have to leave at that point. I welcome contact from someone senior that’s knows the price scheme and doesn’t get me back in the door under false pretences. Edit: despite their reply below; to clarify the actual chain of events. I started off asking if there was a discount for charity workers, they said yes with no joining fee (written in email) upon arriving I was offered the corporate rate with no joining fee, I said only wanted 6 months but “they can’t do corporate for just 6” (very strange and asked why not and no they made no attempted to explain why) (I don’t understand why 6months vs a year makes any diff difference to them) so I tried to transfer to the 6 month “normal” package, but they added the joining fee back on. I tried to discuss why and gain better understanding of the packages, they offered £25 to try and appease. To me, if they can drop £25 they can drop it all. (Even though their reply states it’s policy not to do any) (also regular promotional events allow a no joining fee at all) Alas although their reply states their response was on the day professional, it may have been, but alas it was very robotic and prescribed with no element of “understand your customer” or “work with the customer” part of good customer service hence having to leave. All in all the review was an attempt for management to reach out as the manager I was referred to on the day was not able to communicate in a fashion I felt was going to get either party anywhere. A senior manager has now, after 2 weeks reached out, but they are sticking to “a seemingly variable “ policy rather than use good customer service. They seemingly apply policy when it suits (discount off joining fees during events and £25 offered rather than the whole £50) also to add I did get a text to say offerers where coming in September if I could hold on. (Again, why could this offer not be applied at this point) Suggestion to management would be, listen and react to customers understandings of packages and offers in a compassionate and clear way. Make clear in emails what is actually offered rather than highlighting what the customer wants, and thinks they are getting to ensure no misunderstanding, therefore being explicitly clear. Give the staff room to negotiate and apply discounts that are a common occurrence as deals make the customer feel valued rather than “just another person” especially if they have had a negative experience in the past. Having “grey” areas of “£25” discount, or no discount, or sometime discount whilst then stating policy is not helpful.

Fantastic experience: Me and my girlfriend were at the driving range next door when we decided to pop in to have a look late afternoon on a Saturday, hoping to check the gym out quickly. Andy was at reception and gave us a warm welcome, set aside 20 minutes of his time to accommodate a full tour with zero notice. He was friendly, funny, detailed and showed us around the whole facility, answering all our questions and giving all the info we needed. Couldn’t have walked in and expected any better service. Negative experience: The administrative side of this club is woeful, prompting both my wife and I to leave. They show little regard for data protection, financial transparency, and basic customer care. My experience has been reported to the Information Commissioner’s Office, and I sincerely hope others read this before signing up. Upon leaving, their admin staff demonstrated gross incompetence in the following ways: • Switched payment processor without informing members, effectively handing confidential financial information to a third party without consent. — Violates UK GDPR Article 14 • Violated their own stated cancellation policy by demanding an extra month's payment, even though I was well within their cancellation window. — Contravenes UK Consumer Protection from Unfair Trading Regulations 2008 • Conflated opt-in marketing communications with essential contractual information. — Violates UK GDPR Article 6 • Failed to provide an opt-out link in their email newsletters. When this was pointed out, an opt-out link was swiftly added to their newsletters, written, for some reason, in French. — Violates PECR Regulation 23 • When challenged, they blamed me for not receiving the email, falsely stating that I had unsubscribed from their marketing communications. A change of payment processor is a data and financial governance issue, not marketing. — Fails under UK GDPR transparency and accountability principles • I was forced to recover the payment through my bank using a Direct Debit Indemnity. — Breach of the Direct Debit Guarantee • Even after requesting full removal from marketing lists, I continued receiving promotional emails. — Violates PECR and UK GDPR Article 21 • I submitted a formal complaint. Their response was dismissive, flippant, and offered no resolution whatsoever. --- You may enjoy the facilities, but the moment you encounter a problem, expect indifference, excuses, and policy inconsistencies used against you.

Fantastic experience: The gym & pool are fabulous. I try to go at least 4 times a week. The wellness rooms provide relaxing treatments at a great price. After a workout, there is a lovely cafe for light refreshments. Today I did boot camp with Rob. I may not be able to move tomorrow :-)

Negative experience: Disappointed with Membership Experience I regret to say my experience with this club has been disappointing. When I joined, I was promised a promotion of a free month, but this was never honoured. Despite reaching out multiple times over several weeks, no one followed up or resolved the issue. Ironically, when I decided to cancel my membership, the response was almost immediate—less than 48 hours. It feels like addressing concerns of staying members isn’t a priority, but leaving members are dealt with quickly. Additionally, I was told a final payment would be collected in January, even though, legally, no payment should be taken due to the promotion. This lack of clarity and disregard for prior agreements shows poor management and communication. I wouldn’t recommend this club to anyone looking for transparency and fairness.

Fantastic experience: I have been a member of Lanes for a month now, everyone I have met from the staff have been lovely, friendly and helpful. The facilities are great and the other members are so nice as well, it is a stress free relaxed place to come for any age, shape or size to enjoy. A real bonus as well, you are now able to see and buy the most beautiful flower arrangements made by one of the clever ladies who work there, they are stunning, make the reception and cafe area smell fabulous and lucky me, my husband bought me some last Friday and they are still gorgeous! So nice to see a local company promoting its staff as well

Fantastic experience: I have been having PT sessions at Lanes with Claire after getting a diabetes diagnosis. Claire is a fantastic trainer who works me hard but with constant encouragement. I am stronger, fitter, now classed as pre- diabetic, have lost a stone and a half in weight and feel great. Thank you Claire for all the amazing work that you do to keep me healthy.

Fantastic experience: This is a review for Nickie my 1 to1 swimming teacher at the Lanes. I wholeheartedly recommend Nickie for swimming lessons. Her patience and encouragement is a winning formula. After many years of trying and many lessons elsewhere, I am finally swimming. Thanks to Nickie! Nickie completely understands my fears and she instinctively knows when its the right time to push me on a little, but she never pushes too much. Nickie always makes me feel safe in the pool. I am still having lessons with Nickie and intend to continue.

Fantastic experience: A really friendly and welcoming health club where I take my children for swimming lessons. There are great facilities throughout and the staff are always welcoming. Our swim teacher Wendy has been absolutely amazing with the children and I would highly recommend her to anyone wanting to take swimming lessons. Fantastic experience: I have been coming to Lanes as a non-member for 121 swimming lessons with Nickie. Due to an experience when I was a child, I have had a deep, underlying fear of losing control in the pool for years. Finally I want to beat this fear and Nickie has been so patient. She is reassuring and really encouraging. She knows my capabilies and doesn't push me too far; but at the same time she has more faith in me than I do, and gets me to try and push myself and its been an amazing experience. I'm still having lessons, but thats just for my own confidence. For the first time in my life, I can call myself a swimmer! I would definitely recommend Nickie to anyone wanting swimming lessons, regardless if they are nervous or not. Thank you Nickie for putting up with me! Oh P.s The swimming pool in lanes is to die for- All the same depth and in my personal experience the best I have seen, the staff and members are all so friendly and the changing rooms are so lovely and clean. One day I will most definitely get a membership here, I love it!

Negative experience: Very expensive . I cancelled my membership after the initial contract expired as it was impossible to book any classes as always full. I must add that staff were always helpful.

Fantastic experience: I had a PT session with Vince which focussed on boxing and i was really impressed. The level was just right in terms of being out my comfort zone but not so difficult that i felt out of my depth. It was a good balance of technique and co-ordination. Fantastic experience: It was a very good experience. Starting with the receptionists who looked after us very well! They showed us where the sauna, the steam room, the pool and the Jacuzzi ... the latter was the best! It has a lot of power so it gives incredible massages. There is a sauna and steam room for each bath, one for men and one for women. The truth is that this is a good thing as they are small so there are not many people. During my stay here, I was alone and quiet. The use of the Jacuzzi was the best thing and the sauna everything was very clean and the swimming teachers at the pool were very friendly and attentive. Fantastic experience: It has been an amazing experience to be a member of Lanes Health Club. The club is always very clean and the staff is very friendly. The facilities are very good. Everyone is very kind and always available to help when needed. I only have good things to say about the staff members. I would like to note some staff members, as they are incredible, always with a smille in their face and always with a word to say hi, goodbye or even to ask how we are. I really feel they care about us. I think the staff is an important part of the healthclub and makes my experience even more positive. I feel I am "at home". Fantastic experience: I had a ‘quick class’ with Vince. He was amazing - passionate and helpful He asked if we had any injuries and I said I’d injured my knee (which all trainers ask anyway ) but afterwards he asked how my knee was . Fantastic experience: I come here as a guest pass on my husbands membership. It's always clean, well looked after. Helpful staff. And the machines in the gym are straight forward to use. I must try their wellness centre and classes.

Negative experience: For the 4th week running I have logged online to book at 7.001pm and have been unable to book either Pilates at 9am or Stretch at 10 am for the following Tuesday. There are too many members all wanting the same thing. A year ago it was feasible but now I am beginning to regret joining.

Fantastic experience: I’ve been coming here for the past month and a half, and I’m so happy with everything. I’ve not been to the cafe yet or any classes, however I’ve used the gym and swimming pool facilities. Very pleased with them, they have everything I need and it’s never been too busy (although I tend to go during the off peak times according to the google busyness schedule). I’ve also been to a deep tissue massage with Key and that was very good as well. The reception staff is always helpful and welcoming. Only good things to say so far! Highly recommend :)

Fantastic experience: Fantastic health club with courteous and accommodating staff. Convenient free parking right in front of the facility. Amenities include a swimming pool, jacuzzi, sauna, steam room, gym, and over 100 on-site classes. Separate steam rooms and saunas are available for both females and males in the changing rooms. Membership grants access to all facilities, and there's even a complimentary hairdryer in the changing room. Additionally, a charming cafe and a delightful lounge area offer picturesque views of the golf course and a pond.

Positive experience: Been going to this gym 3/4 times a week for 6 months now so hope to offer an honest, balanced review: Pros: - Fingerprint entry system is brilliant. No card or code needed - Great equipment and range of weights - The gym is never too busy - Lots of community events on all the time (although I’ve never been!) - Staff say hello and goodbye each visit and have always been friendly - Very clean - Superb location with views of the golf course - Great to have live tv/sports shown in the gym - PTs are always present outside their office inside the gym Cons: - Price. £88 per month is very expensive for what it is. There are gyms equally good for half the price elsewhere in Sussex. - Classes. Most classes are well oversubscribed e.g at present there is a 25 person class full up with another 25 people on the waiting list to join it. The average age of clientele of this club must be 60+ so how they’re all winning the race to book these spots on the app is a mystery. There must be a back door route as I’m a tech nerd. It’s a Glastonbury experience just trying to book Pilates. - The pool is relatively small and gets very busy. I’ve got changed into swimwear on a few occasions, seen how rammed it is and just gone back into the changing room to get changed again and leave. - There is a strong culture of open nudity in the men’s locker room. I’ve been to other gyms (and even play for a football team) so am familiar with it in general but some people seem to attend the club for this purpose alone. I once put my stuff in a locker when I arrived at the club, did a whole workout and returned to the same naked gentlemen still sitting in the changing room! Notes to management: - Attention to detail. It’s little things like the grubby hooks the cleaning spray is hung on that you expect to be better for nearly £100 a month. The people going to Lanes will be comparing to places in the same bracket like David Lloyds which is only 10 minutes away. - Temperature. Gym was too warm throughout the summer months. I prefer to workout in joggers but had to do shorts as the aircon wasn’t up to it and still left sweating. - Music. Really odd playlists, sometimes even slow songs. - The water fountain in the actual gym offers a trickle of liquid and can’t fill a water bottle. The one just outside the gym entrance is much better. - Showers have never had soap in the dispensers for the 6 months OR they do have soap but are just rubbish dispensers (saw this in a couple of other reviews too so might be worth looking into!) Overall, a really good club with a great feel but slightly on the pricey side!

Negative experience: What a joke of a gymn. I asked to speak to a manager after their app was not working for 6 weeks. The receptionist was rude and told me that I had to email my request. There is no management presence or customer service. I am still waiting for a manager to deal with my complaints. You have incompetent people who quite frankly take no responsibility for dealing with clients. They quick to quote rules to members but cannot respect members rights. I would not bother signing up to this below standard gymn.

Positive experience: Staff friendly, pool, gym , cafe, sauna. Steam all clean and well maintained the changing rooms are nice too. The only thing that lets the place down is the showers, holes in the ceiling, missing tiles. empty body and shampoo wash in 4 showers I tried! Shame as rest of club seems very nice. Are they due an update? I hope so?

Positive experience: A nice gym but with one draw back. Class bookings are on line only and you can only book classes 8 days in advance. If you go abroad on holiday then you cannot book any classes for the week you return as the website will only accept bookings if your are in the UK. So not only you aren’t using the gym whilst you are on holiday but you lose a further 8 days of use when you return, nearly all the evening classes are fully booked.

Fantastic experience: I've been meaning to write this review for ages. I have been a member of Lanes since it first opened, and previous to that, it was Virgin Active and previous to that, Esporta. So I guess that's 10+ years – and I've seen an enormous change for the better since it became Lanes. This building facility and club now has heaps of soul, and as I said to Ash (the owner) this morning, this place has become my sanctuary. I feel valued by the friendly club staff – from the lovely cleaner, Lucy, through to the exercise instructors. Nothing seems too much trouble – last week, a staff member helped me open a mascara lid that I'd screwed on too tightly . To get to Lanes, I drive from Worthing to Rustington, and now the A259 has been improved, the journey is 10-15 mins, and well worth the effort. I use the pool 3-4 times a week, practice Yoga with Norma on a Sunday, Body Balance on Monday with Colin, and Tuesday with Ruby. The instructors are lovely and friendly. Thank you, Ash and the whole team – keep up the good work!

Negative experience: The app that controls bookings has been malfunctioning for last 3 weeks. One can book classes but not view whether you are confirmed. Repeated promises that their developer's would attend to the problem and sort out, do not materialise. So membership is frozen due to non-attendance but no accountability from Lanes for fixing the problem of a member not receiving notifications. I would expect better customer service.

Positive experience: My 85 year old newly widowed mother is a member and she loves it. I visited as a guest, not into all the multi-media on the machines and would prefer Concept2 rowers, but otherwise a nice gym with a good selection. Didn't use the pool but as a strong swimmer I would probably have been irritated by the slowness going on, that said it's a decent 25m pool. Salmon Buddha bowl in the cafe was spot on

Negative experience: Sadly very disappointed with the customer service when I said I needed to cancel my membership. I signed up for 3 months but open arriving for my first session I was told I had been put onto a different membership with no one informing me it was a years membership (which they acknowledged when I rang to complain) I was told to cancel via email which I did - then they messaged to ask why I was leaving and could they change my mind. I was annoyed at being badgered as I had explained why I was leaving in my email. I have a new job and am relocating. I heard nothing further from them. Until recently endless texts and email’s saying I owe 3 months membership.I went in to ask what was going on - was told I would be contacted the next day - heard nothing - then the very same person who was supposed to ring me sent another email saying I need to pay and didn’t realise/acknowledge that she was supposed to call the day before, I challenged the person and she said she didn’t realise she was supposed to ring me - absolutely inept - eventually today I have spoken to the manager who said I have to pay 1 months membership. I have done so to stop being harassed by Ashbourne and Lanes themselves.avoid membership - or absolutely do not let them change it verbally. I’m addition and not sour grapes but the pool is often cold as are the dirty showers. There was a 3 month wait for a water fountain to be repaired - lights aren’t switched on in the pool and sadly staff desire being super friendly simply do not know how to do their job properly. The cafe however is excellent.

Negative experience: Apparently their amazing customer service doesn't go as far as memberships. There are tunes when work is quiet and a 3 month gym membership over winter each year is the perfect option. This is what a friend of mine thought, but had no indication that the 3 months was about to expire, had no indication of auto renewal and is now being charged an extortionate amount each day to be able to cancel the membership, even though it was sold in person as a 3 month membership and it was made very clear that it was only needed for 3 months. Its gone from a guaranteed 3 month membership each year to now being a nasty exchange that can only be described in the same way as missed ppi or vw dieselgate. The facilities are great, but the servie re membership leaves a lot to be desired

Positive experience: Great pool but gym is a bit dark and dingy and the shower drains smell. I never see the changing rooms being cleaned and find bits of dirt stick to my feet after leaving the shower and walking to the showers. Please Lanes, clean more often. Even the basic budget gyms have people visibly going around cleaning most of the time.

Positive experience: It’s a good complex with fair facilities. The gym equipment is good! Don’t miss a payment though as expensive daily arrears charge is added, £18.50 per day. Very scary for me and not refunded. Due to health I am leaving.

Fantastic experience: I like this Health Club as the numbers of members is not too high and the demographic means after 5pm I can swim in relative peace. Gym also good and everything clean and overall I can do a workout without waiting for treadmills etc.. to become available. Nice little cafe and outside seating area.

Negative experience: Hi looked on the Lanes web site to check opening hrs for Christmas break! Unfortunately the information told me the club was open til ten - on my first visit was told they closed at 8pm due to Xmas party no problem so returned home. Today Thursday 30th on the site it stated open til 10..00pm (as it is a normal working day )arrived 20past 7pm changed just about to go into the ‍♂️ and was told the club was closing at 8 pm and all members had received emails regarding opening/ closing. I informed the member of staff I had not received any emails! He informed me a time table was posted at the desk perhaps it would of been more noticeable in the entrance on a notice board ? Would have saved me two disappointed visits.

Hi Chris, thank you for your comment. Whilst we understand some members find it difficult when we have reduced hours during the festive period. We always do our best to communicate this within the Club and also our website leading up to those dates. Shortened hours over Christmas and New Year are common within the industry as footfall into the Club is vastly reduced. Negative experience: After a really enjoyable 2.5 months of membership I have had to leave due to a very unpleasant witnessed, abusive altercation with a very unreasonable woman in the pool. I have reported this and emailed the owner. Sadly no one has reached out to offer me any sort of reaction or comment. I literally wouldn’t want to enter the place again in case this unpredictable, aggressive person was there at the same time. I didn’t expect this in a private club in Sussex but I did expect some sort of communication as to my well being. Ps. Booking into popular classes isn’t always a given. Pps. Bet this is removed

Fantastic experience: My boyfriend and I joined this gym a month or 2 ago and I don't have a single bad thing to say! The actual gym is great, lots of space and lots of treadmills/great equipment. The pool is great, very relaxing atmosphere and warm (especially the jacuzzi!) the views from both the gym and the pool are lovely as well as its situated within the grounds of a golf course. Men and women's separate sauna and steam rooms which are always quiet and great tempuratures. Everything is kept clean and the changing rooms are well kept. The food from the cafe is a bit pricey but I don't mind paying it as the food is good quality and always fresh. Plenty of healthy options as well which is what you want from a gym :) I also had a massage/facial in the Wellness Rooms recently which was lovely and relaxing. There are great offers for members for treatments as well which is a great incentive. Will definately be booking some more appointments after Xmas! Overall really happy, best gym I've ever been to. the staff are all amazing and really friendly/helpful. Always a great atmosphere here, even on early mornings

Fantastic experience: went to lanes on a guest pass to the gym enjoyed it. also had lunch there. I had a tuna and cheese toastie very nice and a fruit smoothie as well

Fantastic experience: I am slightly biased as I'm a member of Lanes. The place is lovely and clean with great facilities! The cafe is a little pricey but the food is great. All the instructors are friendly and the management team can't do enough for you. The outside area is beautiful being surrounded by a lovely golf course with fantastic views.
