Kingdom is where the young grow up and the grown-ups feel young. Food. Activity. Nature. Set in a magical 13-acre woodland in Penshurst, Kent. The Kingdom café is set within the ancient woodland serving delicious food, sourced locally and cooked well, to nourish heart and soul.

Our comment from FitFit UK about Kingdom:

Welcome to Kingdom, a unique sporting and recreational hub located in the scenic countryside of Tonbridge, United Kingdom. This idyllic venue combines stunning natural beauty with a cozy atmosphere, making it a great spot for both activities and relaxation.

Visitors have praised Kingdom for its:

  • Beautiful surroundings - Nestled amidst lush greenery, the center offers picturesque views and a lovely outdoor space perfect for walking, cycling, and enjoying nature.
  • Variety of activities - Kingdom hosts a range of fitness classes, including yoga and park runs, allowing visitors to stay active while enjoying the scenery.
  • Cozy café - The café serves good-quality food and beverages, with many guests highlighting the excellent coffee and delicious cakes. While some menu items might be on the pricier side, the overall quality has received favorable comments.
  • Family-friendly atmosphere - Dogs are welcome, and there are plenty of activities for children, making it an ideal spot for family outings.

However, it's worth noting that some visitors have experienced:

  • Inconsistent service - Several reviews mentioned delays in service and disorganization among staff, which may detract from the overall experience.
  • Limited menu options - Some diners expressed disappointment with the reduction in menu variety, particularly for breakfast items.
  • Pricing concerns - While many agree the quality justifies the price, others feel certain items are overpriced for what they offer.

Overall, Kingdom is a lovely place for a day out, offering a warm, inviting atmosphere and excellent amenities amidst beautiful landscapes. It’s definitely worth a visit for anyone looking to unwind and enjoy quality time with family and friends.

Positive experience: Lovely location and very clean. Food was of a good standard but you do pay for it. 9.50 for a baileys hot chocolate without the trimmings! Service was poor and unwelcoming.

Negative experience: Very bad

Fantastic experience: A lovely, if slightly remote cafe, perched on a hill. It was foggy when I visited but supposedly there are views from the site. A pleasantly unusual building and a nice woodland walk on site.

Positive experience: London is full of energy — a mix of history, culture, and modern life. There’s always something new to discover.

Fantastic experience: Great cafe, very interesting cabin style venue. Had a lovely experience , will definitely come again. Food was good quality perhaps the main courses could have a bit more portions but all in all , I would recommend this place and would come again with my small family.

Fantastic experience: We've just been to Kingdom's halloween party which was fantastic. Great activities for the kids and tasty food and coffee in beautiful surroundings!

Fantastic experience: Good coffee and amazing cakes, with a great view.

Positive experience: Good cycling cafe stop with delicious breakfast smoothie and millionaire shortbread. Also good for a brunch stop with homemade baked bean type things. Can get quite loud and expensive, but the warm fire is 10/10 on a cold ride

Negative experience: Nice spot but crazy prices. Nearly £10 for a very average flat white and a small granola bar sized as though it had come from a multipack packet.

Fantastic experience: I went to my grandson's wedding there. The setting gave a unique atmosphere to the event. The building is constructed from timber salvaged from trees blown down in the 1987 storm at the site. The food was excellent and so we're the staff despite being very much in the background. It was a memorable event and shall cherish my memories of it. The reason for reluctantly reducing the atmosphere to 4 stars is because the acoustic of the dining hall. It limited conversation at the dining table. Yes I know in getting old and hearing may be not quite what it was but younger attendees agreed with me. If your visit was for a smaller number of people in less celebratory mood, I doubt whether this would be a problem.

Fantastic experience: Stopped by for brunch on a Saturday morning. There was lots of sporting activity happening which gave the place a lovely buzz. We had a coffee and a nourish me breakfast consisting of baked beans, sourdough bread, fried egg, baked mushroom and tomato. Both the food and drinks were fresh and delicious. Service was attentive and friendly. Dog friendly. Will be back.

Negative experience: The barn itself looks nice and set in a beautiful park. I had a lavender and vanilla biscuit, that was nice. The coffees that I ordered after a very long queue just never arrived! Got a refund in the end. The man said they were understaffed but there were 5 people behind the counter plus staff walking around the restaurant area. If I come back, think I’ll bring my own coffee in a flask!

sally sharpe 6 months ago

Positive experience: Took 15 mins just to get a coffee even though no one at counter when ordered ..plenty of staff standing around.chatting...had to ask where coffee was..not alot of common sense wafting around

Paula Mitchell 7 months ago

Positive experience: Beautiful setting - quiet views outside and spacious inside, both dog friendly. Food is tasty, menu limited. But the service - they couldn’t care less. Such a shame. The man that served me conversed with another customer for the entire transaction not thanking me or offering a receipt. We went to the counter several times and each time they were as uninterested.

Corinne Richard 7 months ago

Positive experience: Lovely cafe setting but very pricey for what it is. Limited choice and at £5 a fresh juice or hot chocolate, the bill goes up very quickly! The setting though is rustic with lovely views and amazing yoga classes which can be done on the roof top in good weather. We met up for a spot of lunch with some friends and wanted to try out the other walks advertised on the website apart from the well signposted orange walk which is quite short. None of the staff was able to tell us where the blue/red walks on the map were which was disappointing.

Tiffany Steele 10 months ago

Fantastic experience: Lovely cafe perched up high and surrounded by natural beauty. The inside of the cafe is cosy, with wooden beams and trunks taking up the structure, and enough glass to let the light in. The food was delicious, staff were quick to bring you the order. They offer a variety of different activities here (pre-book) such as yoga, park run and outdoor fitness classes. There is also a sauna hut too, will definitely be back to try more!

Positive experience: We walked to Kingdom for brunch/lunch on a beautiful sunny day. Sadly the wind was too cold to sit outside but luckily Kingdom allows you to sit inside with your dogs. It was pretty busy but we still managed to find a table. Because this is basically a café you have to line up at the counter to order. Which is fine if a bit slow. There's some good stuff on the menu although it is pretty limited. I don't know why as you could easily have a few more main dishes. Anyway our brunch choices were really very fresh and tasty when they arrived. The bread was good, the avocado perfectly ripe and the smoothies tasty. So a really nice lunch for all concerned. Definitely a nice place to visit.

Negative experience: Staff seem lost, unresponsive to their jobs! Food was massively disappointing, was expecting quality, a treat, at the prices they were charging…instead it was lack lustre, and stale. The place has no charm despite it clearly attempting to be something special.

David Redford 10 months ago

Positive experience: Great place for a walk...average overpriced food

L C 10 months ago

Negative experience: Sadly we had a really poor experience of this place today. They seem to have employed all teenagers who were extremely disorganised, didn't seem to know what they were doing and some were messing around laughing while we stood waiting for our order. We had waited so long with no service that I had to ask for our drinks to be made in the end. A real shambles and definitely won't be back after this experience.

Positive experience: Really cool spot... Like a ski chalet...great location in woods and views

Fantastic experience: Lovely to find this gem surrounded by green and food is so lovely. Stunning view when sunny. Also have a Yoga studio, wish to try next time.

Fantastic experience: Fabulous spot for a walk, a hot tub/sauna/cold tub & then hot chocolate and pastries in the cafe. Lovely grounds and perfect wedding spot! Cafe was warm and inviting, all wood and lights. Friendly staff. We had delicious hot chocolate ☕️ Would recommend as a lovely afternoon out. Also great spot for kids. ✨

Elisabeth Evans 11 months ago

Positive experience: A great spot for breakfast when the sun shines. The vegetarian options are fabulous. Full menu has become very limited but the quality is fantastic. I suspect the lack of variety only impact regulars. Lovely to see they now cater for kids too. Unfortunately, they don’t open upstairs in winter to make the most of that wonderful view! Agree with others about the annoying barking dogs!

Claire de Quay 11 months ago

Fantastic experience: We had a Quinoa bowl with smoked salmon and avocado, one with chicken, a fresh beetroot and ginger juice, a fresh orange juice, then a mushroom moka with a brownie and a flat white with carrot cake, and it was delicious! Very friendly staff as well, and warm atmosphere.

Chris Beach 1 year ago

Positive experience: 5* for the quality of breakfast and the setting. However, the cafe is always full of dog owners and their bored, noisy animals. It’s hard to relax and enjoy your food when someone’s slobbering mutt is sniffing around your ankles and barking loudly. Also the layout of the cafe is a massive missed opportunity. Only the staff in the serving area get the benefit of the amazing view. The serving area should be moved to the wall without windows, and then full height picture windows and customer seating should be put where the serving area is. And when you’ve paid £20 for one breakfast and one coffee, you really shouldn’t have to cross the cafe to get your own cutlery from a canteen-style tray. It’s ridiculous that the only people who enjoy the view are the occasional yoga class (on the top floor, which was a much better location for the cafe), and the staff in the dark cafe down below.

Christopher Matthews 1 year ago

Negative experience: We used to come regularly for breakfast. Their menu was fantastic and varied. Unfortunately now, breakfast has been reduced to just 5 choices, a veggie and non veggie full English, granola, bap and eggs of toast. It’s such a shame as their breakfast offering used to be pretty much incredible. Now, it’s really nothing special. I hope they bring back a menu which is more of a draw to the cafe, as it is in the middle of nowhere.

Fantastic experience: Good views, food and nice coffee. Sadly no carrot cake!

Dale Frost 1 year ago

Positive experience: Food was lovely, but a 330ml can of coke is £3.50!!!!!!!! I think you’d be hard pushed to find anyone not annoyed at that price

Flo Bender 1 year ago

Fantastic experience: 10/10 for their English breakfast, I go there weekly for it. It tastes homemade and doesn’t leave you with that greasy feeling. If you want quality food for a reasonable price, this is the place to go.

Positive experience: Beautiful venue Easy parking Yoga classes are fantastic Walk track is very short (not really worth a visit just for this) Cafe is way overpriced for small portions, have tried a few times but always leave hungry Staff are hit and miss, some are lovely, some would rather be elsewhere

Fantastic experience: Kingdom in Penshurst, Kent, is a wedding photographer’s dream venue, offering a unique blend of natural beauty and relaxed charm. From the breathtaking views over the area of outstanding natural beauty to the rustic elegance of the Kingdom cafe, every corner of the venue is bursting with character.

Fantastic experience: Very impressed. Went for a glorious Saturday morning stroll accompanied by our dog and had fabulous time. Ordered a beautiful cappuccino aswell as an expertly crafted bacon bap. Perfectly cut and cooked bacon and don’t even get me started on that bread roll. Remarkable and unbeatable to say the least. Will be back.

Fantastic experience: Absolutely loved our morning at Kingdom. It was the first time i have visited and i just love its quirky warm style. The food was amazing with a warm friendly atmosphere, Fantastic scenery and had a great walk. Highly recommend this place for everyone including dogs. I will certainly will be back to try more of their delicious food

Jomo Hunte-St.Rose 1 year ago

Positive experience: It's pretty expensive. The unusual decor and location make it pretty. The food is expensive but, judging by the large number of happy people, it's justified

Lisa Beck 1 year ago

Positive experience: Picturesque venue, beautiful, but poor value for money food, which was simply average (toasted sourdough was definitely stale), and very smelly toilets (plumber required urgently).

Jennette Taylor 1 year ago

Negative experience: Expensive cakes. On asking for a latte we were asked regular or large. When we enquired how large , the waitress replied' larger' not very helpful, then she thought to show us the cups. Used to like coming here for the views from inside , now it's all dark and only the yoga get to see the view. Won't be returning.

Jack Olney 1 year ago

Fantastic experience: Probably the best coffee in Kent. Excellent venue, stellar coffee and great food. Highly recommend.

Yvonne Letchford 1 year ago

Negative experience: Considering all the yoga that goes on here, you'd have thought there'd be more vegetarian options. Lots of wood, little atmosphere.

Paddy Dane 1 year ago

Positive experience: Love kingdom and have been many times. However the prices are extortionate and the service has gotten abysmal. Multiple members of staff and no communication between whatsoever, with a general vibe of everyone being a bit pissed off. Please sort this out.

Tim Parrish 1 year ago

Negative experience: Really wanted to love this place with all the glowing reviews. However it's just way too expensive for what it offers. £5 for a bottle of fentimans ginger beer..! The mackerel dish is just one fillet placed on a very tough piece of sourdough toast. Yes it looks pretty, but that is £12. At these prices it shouldnt be collect your own cutlery and order at the counter culture. It all looks a bit tired as well; gents toilets were not in a great state and the whole thing felt like it needs a revamp at least. I can see what they are trying to do in terms of marketing it as a cutsey, eco venue but that cant be done at this scale and price bracket.

Daniel Palmer 1 year ago

Positive experience: Idyllic hideaway in Kent. If you’re nearby well worth a visit for some lunch and a stroll. The food is good, with real effort made around good ingredients and ethical produce. Great for the kids to run around. I think they struggled with it being a tad busy, so service can be better. Def worth a visit.

Fantastic experience: My first time at kingdom interesting place in the middle of the country side the building made from whole trees and cut beams im told it was built with trees that were blown down from the 1987 storm really amazing place great looking bar lots of space outside everywhere their are wood shacks cabinswith keep fit training goin on wonderfull flowers and shrubs outside ..i can only fault it where payment arises as they dont take cash many people probably won't be bothered by that but I like paying cash im old school in that area I do pay by card where it suits me but really think one should be able to pay cash as it is legal tender and I may be wrong but I understand that establishments in what ever business they are in have to take cash from customers as said its legal tender... so anyhow apart from that a great place to to go and take kids not sure about disabled access but good space for parking.

Diana Gillinder 1 year ago

Fantastic experience: I want to sing the praises of one of your staff members, David Cattaneo, who messaged me today to tell me that he had found my missing purse. He even went to the trouble of driving over to return it to me. This gesture was well above the call of duty and very much appreciated. Thank you, David. What a star! …

Dian Croft 1 year ago

Positive experience: We had full English breakfast, only sourbread would have preferred a choice, fried eggs were not hot and had not been cooked to order were rubbery. Rest of meal ok.

Heidi Rice 1 year ago

Positive experience: Love this place and the coffee is great. Sadly if you’re gluten free it’s challenging. No gf cakes and the sausages contain gluten. So unnecessary and a real shame.

Positive experience: Came here because they do a Park Run - we didn’t run here this week. Good views but they are all fenced in. The cafe and terrace are lovely but service was a bit slow, but there again it goes with the ambiance

Fantastic experience: Stumbled across this gem. Cool, natural, great coffee, buzzing and encouraged to go on a lively walk. What’s not to love?

Kerry Devito 2 years ago

Fantastic experience: Loverly place but unfortunately the food let's it down ordered pancakes and they was like the little ones you get from asda that you put in the toaster they was very dry and for £10 was very disappointing! Also the latte came in the smallest glass! Overpriced for what you get.

valerie newman 2 years ago

Positive experience: It's a lovely setting. Staff nice enough. Service reasonable. . Food not so great. No maple syrup for pancakes so offered golden syrup! Strawberry jam on my pancakes instead of fruit compote. Not good. A bit disappointed for our first visit.

Fantastic experience: Very nice and relaxing. Discovered by mistake , we don't know much around as fairly new to the area, but this place for us is a big win. Breakfast is very hummy. Portions are generous, so be hungry! You can walk around, and they have classes going on, too. Defo coming back.

Positive experience: Always have loved Kingdom. A great space and good food. A few Saturdays have been booked up by private events which (yes I know it’s a business) is very frustrating indeed so it’s possibly not on my radar as much over the weekend. I turned up today, closing at 12 for private event. My problem today was getting a cup of tea. I waited for 3 minutes to pay for it (yes not that long). Then I had to wait another 15 minutes to get the tea. It wasn’t overly busy, it was Park Run but looking around it wasn’t manic at all. Five members of visible staff. People were standing in queue for collection for quarter of an hour. Yes first world problems but still. Tables behind me were not happy with it either. They need to call out loudly when an order is ready for pick up. The staff were more or less whispering that an order was available. Won’t take much to correct this and hopefully it was a one off. I still love Kingdom, amazing place

Positive experience: First visit, coffee very good, Latte In a glass NO! Coffee in a cup pleeese, Service was slow, 4 people serving, so disorganised. I could see our coffee sitting on a tray being ignored, I should have got up and collected it! More pastries at 10am please. Will visit again, I might not be so patient next time.

Fantastic experience: Lovely place for a coffee, cake, pancakes, and a pleasure walk on a Sunday afternoon. The views are beautiful, and you can choose short trails or long trails. Staff at the cafe and crepe place are very friendly, and that also helps creating a nice atmosphere.

Fantastic experience: Perfect for a galette or a crepe on a Sunday, outside watching the beautiful countryside. Particularly since it is open in the morning, when all the pubs open only at 12... So very nice real and generous savoury galettes like in Brittany and delicious traditional crêpes

Fantastic experience: Beautiful location and buildings, food was really tasty, nicely cooked and of a very high quality. Above average, which is reflected in the prices but worth it fur a treat.. £12.50 for a kingdom breakfast, £7.50 for a bacon and egg roll... Tea £2.50, Latte £3.50... I would go here for both the food and atmosphere. Service a little bit unorganised but I think they were short staffed when we were there, handed everything just great though... Thank you..

Fantastic experience: I visited Kingdom for the parkrun which is on a Saturday. There is free parking and also parking on Grove road. It has beautiful views here and the cafe/ restaurant is excellent with nice food/ drinks and very friendly staff. Also the toilets are absolutely spotless so great credit for keeping them very clean and stocked up.

Fantastic experience: Really such a great hidden gem! Food is delicious and the staff are friendly! Lovely comfortable space with lots to see and explore.

Pete Masters 3 years ago

Negative experience: Lovely setting and top marks for originality. But, sadly, this place delivers a measily amount for your money. A small, very hard toasted, slice of sour dough bread, a large leaf of lettuce and a couple of dollops of coronation chicken. The sort of thing you could knock up in seconds for a snack at home. How much? £9... Add £6.50 for a pint of lager and your simple, lunch snack is over £15. It tasted fine and the lager was refreshing... but I'm so tired these days of paying a lot for comparably little. Rip off? That can only be a yes...

Positive experience: Lovely views and decor we love the look of the place. Nice food and drinks but you are always waiting ages for your drinks order - waiting about 20mins+ so they could do with reviewing the number of orders they take at a time! It’s a little bit pricey but you’re paying for the beautiful setting

Positive experience: Yes a good stop on a motor bike ride. Bit pricey and thought the hot chocolate drink was very watery and a small cup. For the money should have been frothy and thicker. Poor drink but good carrot cake. Great setting and countryside
