Fantastic experience: Despite a little technical issue which was quickly fixed by the maintenance service, we thoroughly enjoyed our stay in this beautiful hotel, conveniently located, mainly because of their outstanding staff! A special thank you to the hotel manager, Lucy if I remember well, for understanding our remarks and dealing so kindly and efficiently with them. We will come back to this fantastic atmosphere, but we will make sure we will book directly with the hotel and not booking.com as they purely misled us. Fantastic experience: Truly excellent. All the staff are amazing, but special shout out to Cameron in the Swilcan resto for making our dinner at the bar a real highlight of the trip! Also Anita who took very good care of us at breakfast. My friend and I had amazing good and wine in the Jigger as well. Spa was fab. A return trip to the hotel is already on the cards!

Fantastic experience: This hotel was absolutely perfect to celebrate our 25th anniversary. It is located at the very Old Course with direct views on the fairways from the restaurant and bar. The staff are genuinely friendly. The decoration and the rooms are old-fashioned in a lovable, traditional way. Breakfast is good and plenty. There is a golf concierge who helps with any golf-related request. We had a marvellous stay and thank the hotel management and personnel for their outstanding attention and care on our special occasion. We recommend this place to all golf lovers coming to St. Andrews.

Positive experience: Road Hole Bar beautiful, our Old Course View Suite fabulous; But it took 35 minutes to get a drink in the bar at The Road Hole Bar. Good drink, nice waitstaff, terrible staffing at the bar. They were overwhelmed and no backup. What a shame.

Positive experience: The best part of the Old Course was the very kind service. However, the service at dinner was extremely slow! It would consistently take 35-40 to get a cocktail or glass a wine. It was the strangest thing to watch. The servers seemed to be completely overwhelmed. One server was serving way too many people. The management is not doing their job. The rooms are comfortable as far as bedding, but they are very warm! We went in a group of 10 and all of our rooms were uncomfortable. Room service was prompt and delicious. Again, what makes the hotel special is the people working there. They all try very hard and seem to want to make your stay a special one.

Positive experience: Went to the restaurant only. Beautiful. Especially the view from up there. Good service, attentive. Beware, they charge for everything unlike other restaurants... Including the drinking water and bread without letting you know there is a charge for them.

Fantastic experience: We just stopped in to buy some souvenirs, and the staff was completely wonderful. They gave us directions no problem, and the guys manning the golf station gave my mother some lovely little booklets about the courses. The front desk staff were also amazing and gave her some brochures about the hotel, and a few pens.

Positive experience: we sat on terrace for drinks, under a huge tented canopy which protected us from the wind and gave amazing views over the old course and swilken bridge. service was very friendly and they fussed over our dogs. didn't eat so can't comment on food

Fantastic experience: Last night of a boys trip around Speyside on bicycle for a few distillery visits, thought we'd treat ourselves on our way back south. As usual, fabulous experience. Great room, lovely bathroom and comfy bed with luxurious bedding. We spent some time in the on site pub, the jigger inn, where a staff member made space for inside despite the fact we were only having a drink and the place was packed. We ate out for dinner, walking into town across the old course as it was a Sunday and the course was closed. Back from town and a couple of nightcaps at sunset at the road hole bar on the 4th floor. Great drinks and lovely staff with plentiful Japanese Chilli rice crackers to boot! Breakfast in the morning was everything you could want and was full at 7:30am with cyclists / golfers heading out on their days adventures. Hotel stored our bikes for us. Yes, it's expensive but it's a great hotel in a great location, with great staff.

Fantastic experience: We recently stayed at the Old Course Hotel in St Andrews and had a thoroughly enjoyable experience. Our visit began with a smooth and efficient collection of our bags straight from the taxi, followed by a warm and welcoming check-in. Ewan, in particular, stood out—his positive attitude and articulate manner made us feel genuinely welcome from the moment we arrived. Our room was a generous size, with a large, comfortable bed. While the hotel has a more traditional style overall—which isn’t entirely to my personal taste, as I tend to prefer a more contemporary design—it was clear that a lot of care had gone into the presentation and comfort. The bathroom was a highlight, featuring a very spacious bath that was perfect for soaking, with room to sit comfortably at either end. The corridors of the hotel have a distinctive, darker ambience, with black doors and subdued lighting, which adds to that traditional charm. However, I did find the options for relaxing or doing a bit of laptop work around the hotel somewhat limited. What I referred to as the “library room” was quite small, and although cosy, its layout means that if one person is seated in a certain area, others might feel hesitant to sit nearby due to the limited seating and intimate setup. On the other hand, the gym facilities were excellent—equipped with high-quality Technogym machines. I really enjoyed my workout there. Breakfast was a standout. The selection was impressive, from a full Scottish breakfast to continental options, with plenty of fresh fruits, cold meats, and delightful pastries. The Danish pastries were particularly lovely, and I especially enjoyed the raspberry jam infused with pink champagne—a small but memorable touch. Our room was light and bright, and we were lucky with the weather during our stay. One small disappointment was that the rooftop restaurant was undergoing work at the time, so we didn’t get to experience what must be a stunning view from there—but that’s a great excuse to return. Other staff members were also excellent—David at reception was particularly memorable, and I had a lovely chat with Mario, the Food & Beverage Director. He was very open to hearing feedback and genuinely interested in our experience, which I appreciated. The trip was especially meaningful as we were celebrating my 50th birthday, and on Mario’s recommendation, we visited The Jigger Inn. My wife and I had a lovely meal there—Bart, the manager, really made us feel welcome and celebrated. He even brought us tasters of the local ale served in charming little shot glasses, which was a fun and thoughtful touch. All in all, it was a special stay with attentive service, great facilities, and some truly memorable moments.

Negative experience: We recently stayed at the hotel and were extremely disappointed with the service and food standard we received. We ate at the road hole restaurant, which I can only describe from start to finish was shambolic. We ordered the monkfish cheek korma & brown butter pumpkin followed by the scrabster plaice (which I was told after ordering it was sold out but they could offer a crab risotto with sea bream instead) and ribeye steak with bearnaise sauce. The monkfish cheek korma, was certainly not a korma it was a spicy red pepper soup with overcooked monkfish, I only wished I had taken a photo of what the dish looked like at the time however we were there for a birthday celebration and we gave the hotel the benefit of the doubt of one terrible dish. The pumpkin was edible but no frills. Our reservation was at 7pm and after receiving our starters we waited another 1.5hrs for our main course. The wait was definitely not worth it, the crab risotto had a peculiar taste and the sea bream was overcooked, the side of maple glazed heritage carrots were swimming in maple syrup. The bearnaise sauce was quite frankly disgusting, curdled and tasted of oil. The steak was tough and the tomato and mushroom looked like they had been sitting out all day. The service was abysmal no soup spoon, no steak knife and no one asked if we would like another drink during the 1.5hr wait for our main course, we had to flag down a waitress even for a water refill. We left with both main courses untouched and when we returned to our room there was a notice left on our bed pre warning us there is going to be another shambles at breakfast in the morning. So We decided to leave the hotel and go to the Rusacks for breakfast which we throughly enjoyed and would highly recommend and we’re glad we made that decision even though breakfast at the old course was included in our rate as the reception desk on check out was full of guests complaining again of the service and standard of food received at breakfast. The old course hotel was bitterly disappointing, 5 star prices but substandard rooms, very dated, poor service and the food was terrible. The spa was nice but I would suggest staying and eating elsewhere and pay the £40 spa fee if you would like to visit.

Fantastic experience: This spa is flawless. Everything about it is perfect, the decor, the facilities, the lighting, the music, the service, it's all conducive to peak relaxation. I really rate that they have a deep ice plunge pool you can jump into between sauna sessions. I especially loved the bubble spa, I've never experienced anything like it. It was so fragrant, warming, and kind of surreal in such a lovely way, sitting in a small spa filled up to your chin with soft bubbles and then the gentle warm rain, it was somehow kind of silly but utterly wonderful and felt heavenly afterwards. We had some treatments and the practitioners are well trained and skilled in what they do. I have had a lot of very mediocre massages but this treatment today really hit the spot, it was both relaxing and therapeutic. We also enjoyed a very pleasant lunch in the cafe, the menu was extremely tempting and hard to choose just one thing from. When we left the sun was setting over the golf course, full moon over the sea and beautiful skies, a lush dreamy moment to put a cherry on top of a perfect day.

Fantastic experience: Laidback luxury with a view. Golf is the obvious attraction but Sundays the course is closed and you can stroll without fear of straying golf balls. The beach walk along the sands, a coffee at the Dook beach cafe, or a visit to the ruined cathedral are unrivalled. Great place for a short Uk break or the many visiting USA golf enthusiasts.

The experience was slightly dimmed by the fact that every seat in the spa was reserved by a towel and no one returned to the seats for most of the time we were there. Positive experience: The Hotel made us feel extremely welcome for a 21st afternoon tea, reserving a lovely space. Service was fab. Unfortunately the afternoon tea itself left much to be desired. There were very few sandwiches, and these were dry at the corners. The deserts were not that great with the exception of the scones and clotted cream.

Positive experience: Great location, overlooking the famous Old Course. The rooms are very comfortable and spacious. Unfortunately the service is poor. There was a 20 minute queue to get in to breakfast, despite there being plenty of free tables and a buffet. We had 2 dinners at the hotel, we're still chewing the beef. After dinner drinks took over an hour to arrive. I could go on but I think you get the gist. Overall, it's a great location and hotel but it's clearly lacking effective management, to address these basic service requirements.

Fantastic experience: We went to Old Course Hotel for afternoon tea and had a lovely time. Didn't realise the Women's Open was being held and wondered if we would get access. Fears averted as all the staff marshalling guided us to the car park. Hotel staff were very professional and very friendly. Especially the young lady that arranged for wife to have delicious vegetarian sandwiches. Must thank them for being very accommodating. Food was delicious...well prepared sandwiches, cakes were divine. Tea menu was amazing. We had a wonderful afternoon.

Negative experience: Horrific stay. Deliberately booked big room with a view, once arrived- we were given the room with the view on a scraffy huge roof? I could actually step out from the window and have a little walk on it. We asked to change this, but were told « its last room in this category ». In my observance big hotels have plenty rooms and could find better solution than « sorry but no ». Restaurant Road hole: scratched and dated furniture and walls- does not look appealing at all, the feeling that you are back to 70s, and no one was making redecoration since than. Spa: for the price that you pay for this hotel, spa is absolutely awful. The side pool next to sauna, with that old dark rotten disabled chair on the side looks like just came from some horror movie. That pool itself, colours, wall paint, looks like hospital and raise terrible thoughts. Breakfast: was the last neil into their coffin…. The food their you cannot chew, and if you can, you barely can swallow it. Everything is over fried, potato scones from frozen bags bought in nearest Tesco, croissants are a joke, those from plastic bags ( i wouldnt even wash the floor with them), pre-cooked sausages and unfrozen berries in the water,,? As if they just took a frozen bag and chacked it into microwave to defrost and than served. Nothing fresh, and have in mind: its berries season when we were their- plenty of farms around, nice bakeries. Those owners definitely lost a plot with the price of £950 quid a night when you are fed worse than cattle. Never would be back there.

Fantastic experience: What an amazing place and location. My only complaint is the food wasn't amazing. It was good, just not amazing. Rooms A+....plenty of storage space and comfort Location A+....you're literally on the Old Course and are in the hotel that people have to tee off over on #17 The employees are super friendly and helpful, complimentary bag storage room so you don't have to lug your clubs all the way back and forth to the room. West Deck on floor 4 is a cool place. Bar has an incredible selection of whiskeys to choose from. I'm not sure how much it costs as it was in a bundle/package for our trip, but it was absolutely worth it.

Fantastic experience: This is the first hotel I was seriously sad to leave. Its is just beautiful, the people are beautiful, nothing is a problem. The views are divine, the food is exceptional. The new West Deck bar is the place to be with gorgeous views as far as the eyes can see. The menu is superb with lobster roll, crab salad & steak tartare just to name a few. The breakfast each morning was really good from free range eggs any style to waffles & pancakes with cream & berries. ❤️ Being golfers we really enjoyed the access to the course & the ability to relax & watch fellow golfers move around the three courses in easy view. (Jubilee, New & Old). We enjoyed the spa with professional massages. There is a courtesy bus to take you to any golf course & they can arrange a tee time for most courses given enough time. If you are traveling to St Andrews & playing the Old Course is a bucket list item. Treat yourself to this very special 5 star hotel. ️♀️

Negative experience: A real disappointment, I thought I was in a bar at the local pub. The clientele were loud and crass,forget the dress code,I wore a dinner jacket and my wife a classy pant suit,shouldn't have bothered,shorts and a polo would have been sufficient. The service was not 5 star but 2 star at best,staff training may be in order. The inflated prices,you expect 5 star everything, not here. The only thing 5 star was the doorman who showed us to the lift,very professional. Anyone reading this who has an ounce of class, do yourself a favour and don't waste your money here go elsewhere. If you like bogans and yahooing this is the place for you.

Fantastic experience: The hotel was amazing. You enter to a kilted gentleman who greets you, from then on you are in the lap of luxury. Visited for a conference and stayed the night and everything exceeded expectations. Was placed in an accessibility room, not sure if that is the standard layout. Room in images. Staff were very friendly, including showing me to my room. Room service was excellent, turning up exactly on time and very friendly. Common complaints seem to be about the price, but if you expect this level of luxury, you are going to pay more for it.

Fantastic experience: I had the most pleasant stay at the Old course. The staff were friendly, knowledgeable and extremely courteous. They went above and beyond any opportunity they could. The breakfast was delicious, including the best waffle I have ever had. The views of the course are obviously unbelievable. The Swilcan loft dinner was an absolute treat. One of the best hotels I have ever stayed in and worth the spend.

Fantastic experience: Excellent hotel overlooking the Golf course, good service, large rooms with nice facilities. The spa is excellent with sauna, steam room and cold plunge pool. Would highly recommend this hotel.

Fantastic experience: Excellent hotel situated on the edge of the Old Course, St Andrews with great views, especially if you're a golfer, from the fourth floor Swilken Loft Restaurant and breakfast area. Staff were very helpful, polite and informative. Breakfast and dinner at the Swilken Loft were excellent. Fitness centre was well equipped and the spa an enjoyable way to spend an hour or two on a bleak morning.

Fantastic experience: Finished my st. Andrew's golf tour here. Lovely hotel although I wasn't staying there. Beautifully appointed with exceptional views of the course and beyond. There was a spa, golf pro shop and library bar...all were beautiful and staff personnel were fabulous.

Positive experience: Beware, an innocent lunch can turn into an overnight delight! On a long roadtrip. Decided to pop in to enjoy lunch and charge the car up. Concierge set the car charging, and I found the bar on the 4th floor with magnificent views for lunch. Service, food, and cocktails were excellent. And led to me deciding to stay the night if I could book a treatment the next day. 1 slot left in the spa, so booked a base room with sea view, massage, and lunch in the Spa the next day. The only negative: the most expensive room I've ever booked in the UK and the bath plug didn't work, so I kept needing to refill and the noise of it going down the drain removed any relaxation the super deep luxury tub could offer. Coupled with sealant in dire need of replacement and poor TV options, which weren't on a level with the room rate. A real shame as the room with its stunning view, waterfall bath filler, generous complimentary lotions n potions and super comfortable bed was perfect. The details are so important but sadly rarely valued. Fabulous bed, slept very well. Breakfast, back to the 4th floor and those amazing views. Excellent choice, continental buffet, and some cooked items, but the main hot choices being on the menu. Plenty of staff so tables turned around quickly. Check out at 12, so I enjoyed the sea view a little longer. Made reception aware of the bath issues, which they'll make maintenance aware off. Would I come back? Although my stay fitted so well to my trip as an unplanned highlight, I'd probably not return without incentive. The niggle could have been appeased with a goodwill gesture, but instead the level of complacency exhibited devalued my customer worth and experience. Ending anything on a negative is never good and depreciates all the staffs excellent attention previous. Always end on a positive, because that's what you'll remember first.

Fantastic experience: This shouldn't be a surprise that everything here is exceptional. The staff were beyond accommodating and incredible. Everything you need or want is there. We did visit while the spa is under renovation so I really didn't get to enjoy that to its fullest. And the views are amazing.

Fantastic experience: Beautiful hotel located on the historic old course in St.Andrews. Their room service is some of the best I have ever had, and this is coming from someone who is a picky eater! Always served hot and the butter chicken is a must try. The spa service I got was one of the best massages I’ve ever had. Kohler water spa is amazing! Lots of cute on-site areas to sit and eat too. Only neutral vs great thing I will say- do not expect to check in to your room early if you’re arriving after an international flight and are tired. Plan your day for the check-in time that is listed online so you’re not sitting waiting! They will store your luggage for you and you can walk into town to explore until your room is ready :) Last thing I’ll mention as a huge plus- their tubs in the room are very nice. With the in-room tea kettle, you can brew a nice tea and look forward to a kohler bath experience!

Fantastic experience: After travelling from Devon to visit st Andrews we booked afternoon tea at the hotel. On arrival the reception team offered us to use the spa facilities to freshen up before lunch. The restaurant staff are super friendly. Food was fantastic and the views unreal. Service was top class. Fantastic experience: We had an amazing experience at The Home of Golf. My room overlooked the Old Course and I had an excellent view of the 16th green and 17th tee box for the Road Hole. 5 Star Kohler resort. I'd highly recommend it if you ever get the chance!

Fantastic experience: The absolute BEST place to stay if you’re visiting St. Andrews. The hotel is amazing. The rooms are excellent, with incredible views of The Old Course and the town, and they have the most amazing showers you’ll find in any hotel. Breakfast is good (although I hate the fact that they can’t seem to cook their eggs here…they’re runny and gross), and it and the bar and the other restaurant all have beautiful views. The service here is excellent. I will say that the fitness center was a little disappointing, but overall I had a wonderful stay and highly recommend this place.

Positive experience: We ate a set menu with a large group. Three courses: salmon, chicken, chocolate cake. A decent meal, but nothing special. Service was poorly organized: the wines accompanying the main course came too late. The toilets were excellent!

Positive experience: Food was quite nice, but they really skimped on the gravy so the beef was quite dry. Difficult to navigate - entrance is in the wrong place on Google Maps and no signs to indicate where reception is.
