We structure the classes so that we can help, correct and encourage all of the children individually as well as a group.

The classes are based around Wing Chun Kung Fu, which at its core is a very practical and efficient method of self defence as well as being great for body movement and self development.

I wanted to let you know that each of our classes is thoroughly and thoughtfully planned in advance.

Dave and I get together every Monday to go over lesson plans, making sure they are well rounded and balanced to provide a comprehensive Kung Fu experience.

Our classes typically follow a structure that includes a short warm up related to Kung Fu, followed by work on punches and footwork.
We then move to equipment training for strikes, working their power, balance and focus.

Then they’re onto Nunchuku or single stick practice to help develop even more hand eye coordination as well an appreciation of something that acts as an extension of their body.

Moving on, we focus on practical self defence; this month, we're working on techniques to prevent or free yourself from being grabbed.

Next it’s avoiding being hit with noodles which works their footwork and body movements and is always met with smiles from the children.
Sections from the form specific to their level is next and we finish with 5 breaths of power.
We even teach a martial arts method of getting up from the floor when we’ve completed the breath work.

As for partner work, we do introduce it as the children gain more experience and maturity.

When they’re younger, we find they often struggle to grasp the purpose of training with another child, which can lead to frustration or excessive competitiveness.

To avoid this, we have at least one instructor and one or more assistants helping during partner based activities to ensure everyone gets the support they need.

Our goal is to build confidence and skills for all children, regardless of their athletic ability, which is why we approach partner work more cautiously with the younger ones.
