Fantastic experience: I was searching for somewhere to study martial arts i'm 68 years old had a knee replacement breathing problems and cardiac issues.Also the last time Iput on a gi was 28 years ago.I came across Canton Martial Arts I attended my trial class and was made so welcome.The instructors make allowances for my few issues and i've enjoyed every class.Age is just a number and Canton have shown me that you can sweat and try and have fun whilst pushing yourself.

Fantastic experience: I've been training at Canton (mauy thai) for a couple of years now. Great family owned gym with really friendly staff - excellent coaches that really push you to improve, and they have a real focus on technique with a good amount of sparring too. I would definitely recommend this gym.

Fantastic experience: Brilliant environment to learn martial arts especially for our young daughter (4 years old). Their family friendly sessions are a great entry class for all. The teachers are all brilliant with our daughter who was very shy and unsure at the start, now she can’t wait to go. They remember all the kids names from day 1 and make the sessions fun and inclusive for everyone.

Fantastic experience: So I’ve been training here for 4 weeks . And my late I was a bit concerned about what this would be like. In honesty the team have been amazing - welcoming , helpful and made me feel comfortable . Don’t get me wrong they haven’t gone easy on me which is good - I feel challenged but in a positive way. Long may it continue.

Fantastic experience: I enrolled my 5 children aged 5-12 years into Canton recently, and the children are all really enjoying their sessions. My boys (9-12) are doing kick boxing and my girls (5 & 7) are attending little samurai's. The staff are absolutely brilliant and we get lots of great feedback.

All of the Sensei are excellent teachers, and show great patience with the young ones. There is constant feedback and encouragement both at classes and from online support. Fantastic experience: Great club! The coaches are amazing. I like that there are young coaches from the junior class, they're really helpful with the youngest. My child is gaining new skills. Learning self defense and how to focus. Building self confidence and I see it even outside the class. It's times better than staying in front of the screen. The gradings are my son's favourite part.

Fantastic experience: Absolutely astonished by how well my son is getting on in the junior karate jutsu class Hastings, and he is loving it! The instructors have done an exceptional job in keeping him engaged, and have been so supportive, tailoring to his needs quickly and effectively. I can honestly say I have never seen him this enthusiastic, and wanting to go back and train as much as he can. Especially as he has been so apprehensive about other groups and martial arts as a whole. I am so impressed with how organised Canton have been, and the wealth of information they have provided across numerous platforms and formats. Hastings 2 of my children do classes 3 times a week and thoroughly enjoy it, they have learnt so much. we have almost been part of canton martial arts for a year but have felt welcome from day one. Fantastic experience: Iv been training bjj with the guys at Canton for over 6 months now and have enjoyed every lesson. When I first started I had zero history of martial arts or combat sports of any kind so this was a big step out of my comfort zone. The coach's have been fantastic and made the journey fun, and encouraging at every step. Special shout out goes to Richard, Luca and Ryan for this. The other members of the group have been fantastic to meet and roll with. All looking to help one and other level up our bjj game. Not once did I feel like anyone wanted to hurt me or go over the top when rolling. Which is exactly what I wanted to experience. I'm here to learn a skill, not got battered every week and Canton was fantastic for this. I would HIGHLY recommend anyone who is looking to learn bjj in a fun environment to give Canton martial arts a go. James

Fantastic experience: My daughter has absolutely flourished since joining Canton in February this year. We were hoping for her to learn discipline and patience originally, but she has also made wonderful friends, gained amazing role models and has honed many other skills - all whilst staying fit & healthy and having lots of fun. She absolutely loves Karate (and her Sensais, Amanda & Philly) and has really become serious about her training. She is proud of herself and her achievements & has become much more confident, which is wonderful to see. Everyone at the club has been warm and welcoming and we are proud to be part of the Canton martial arts family. Joining was the best decision we have made for our daughter and my husband is very keen to start his own martial arts journey in January! We will forever recommend this wonderful club.

Fantastic experience: So this review is of the group we go to, in Ashford, but it is a part of this Eastbourne-based organization. We go to the dojo in Kingsnorth school where the sensei is normally Lisa, with Stefan. At the 4 week or so mark, we received an email asking us to consider leaving a review, and I'm very happy to do so. The first trial lesson was interesting, with my son refusing to engage for most of it. That's on him though, as he's only 4 so he does sometimes behave like that at swimming as well. However, towards the end of the session, it was evident to Lisa that he was sort of keeping an eye on things, and so she was able to coax him towards doing some of the exercises. I'm so glad she offered us another trial, as that could have been the end of his karate journey. There's no way we could sign him up on the basis of that trial! The second week, he was like a kid possessed. I just sat there on the bench provided for us parents, with a big grin on my face, watching him learn blocks, run up and down the hall, and he was thoroughly enjoying himself. On the strength of that, we were lucky enough to get a 4 week package to see how he does and he is now signed up for the full membership. I don't want to jinx it, he's a stubborn kid and if he starts to not enjoy it, we might have to coax him through, but getting him there early, allowing him to chat with the instructors and warm up, is working really well at the moment. So much so, my wife is so engaged through the lessons, she wants to have a go as well! I really like what I see at these classes. I don't know how long my son will stick at it, but for the moment, it's having what I firmly believe is a positive effect on him. I'm happy to recommend this martial arts group on our limited experience so far.

Fantastic experience: My son aged 5 has recently started and we could not recommend it enough. The classes are firstly fun and give the children confidence as well as them learning a skill. My sons main teacher Amanda is always full of energy and amazing with the children. It has a real family vibe and we have felt very welcomed.

Fantastic experience: We've had a great experience at Canton! My son started going and has developed tremendously, physically and mentally. He has more endurance and strength and can focus on longer term goals that require spaced practice. The dojo is very welcoming, the staff and students are open and friendly and the leaders are inspirational and nurturing. My daughter has also started going and ahi looks so cute in her tiny gi!

Fantastic experience: Kigen Richard Canton has established a quality standard of training for my son I believe you’d be lucky to find anywhere else. The trained ability of students is exemplary - proven by the many trophies on the walls and current competitive achievements of Canton students of all ages. The disciplined, traditional karate is interwoven with modern and applicable self-defence application from young age groups equipping our kids with moral and courageous methods to defend against bullying and playground attack. Instruction is disciplined and strict yet fun and enjoyable leaving students enthusiastically worn-out by the end of a typical 50 minute practice. I can’t recommend Canton Martial Arts highly enough - get involved & try a class out. (My sons been training here for 7 months.)

Positive experience: Very good so far. I was going to change to Sama Karate because its not a fixed payment, its held at the school my son attends and its significantly cheaper. However, Canton allows parents to view the classes, Its more accessible for all, they are clearly passionate about what they do and they build children's confidence by allowing them to lead classes when they are more experienced. They also give the children recognition of their achievements with certificates.

Fantastic experience: I joined Canton at the start of the year to try something completely new and push myself out of my comfort zone, and I am so glad that I did. Richard and his team have been so friendly and supportive of me, and I have learnt so much already. Anyone thinking about getting into martial arts should definitely head down to Canton and give the classes a go.

Fantastic experience: Canton is the highlight of my sons week. Both karate and Brazilian Jiu jitsu have very high standards of teaching. Lessons are run by Richard Canton who is backed up by a great team of instructors and coaches. There is a strong feeling of passionate people doing what they love. Discipline is great which means the kids can concentrate and not have to tolerate messing around. They are also fun.

From the moment I walked into my first class at folkestone I was made to feel so welcomed, and very much part of the group. One of my only regrets is that I didn't join much sooner, it is the best decision I have ever made. Not only does taking these classes make me physically stronger but also mentally stronger. But above all else I'm having fun doing it and find myself looking forward to the classes each week and wishing I could go every day. I have struggled with anxiety a lot in the past and this amazing group of people have helped me get back to who I was. The sense of achievement I had working to my first belt and pushing myself further than before was unreal, I've never been so motivated. Due to the amazing teaching and people at folkestone I was able to achieve this within a month of joining. If you are thinking about starting something new to achieve fitness goals or to gain new skills and meet new people. There is no better place than Canton Martial Arts!

Negative experience: My 9 yr old Autistic son, trained with Canton for 5 yrs, most of the instructors were amazing with him. Really patient and understanding. In the last 6 months the owner started training him and got quite aggressive with him and shoved him into a chair then the following day kicked him out of the club! Shame on you Richard Canton

Fantastic experience: I have been a student of Canton Martial Arts, which mainly teaches Karate, in Ashford, Kent since March 2022. There are 4 classes aimed at adults and mature children. These are on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday evenings plus also one on Saturday morning, with an expectation you will attend two per week. The Sensei is Lisa Collins and she is assisted by senior students and this makes sure that beginner students gain some assistance and education. I have seen pictures of some clubs where all the students look like all look like intimidating Bouncers but at Canton the classes are mixed age groups, so there are men, women and children of all ages in attendance. The standard class goes for 50 minutes, with about 15 minutes of fitness work as a warm up and then we learn techniques and focus upon grading and practical techniques. I would highly recommend that you get in touch with Lisa if you have any aspirations to better yourself, get fit and to move towards the Black Belt. --- Mark Rammond
