Fantastic experience: Went to Sportstest for a cycling fitness test with Gary. Gary was very knowledgeable and after the test gave me some great advice and structure to my training. (Now to put it into practice) The tests themselves were extremely good and most of my results were better than expected. I’ve rebooked for another body composition check in a few weeks time to see if we’re moving in the right direction and alter anything necessary. Gary and Sportstest are first class and I recommend them to anyone interested in improving their performance levels.

Fantastic experience: I gathered many valuable insights from my session with Dr Garry and will be returning for follow-up assessments as I attempt to fold in the data-driven recommendations he suggested for my marathon training. For context, I'm a 40 year old 3.33 marathon runner trying to drive that time down into the mid-to-low 3-hour range. I do a lot of running and gym sessions and felt knowledgable about my training already, but the information and expertise shared by Garry promises to completely transform those efforts, helping me optimise and get better returns. Either way, the service and expertise I received in this initial assessment were first class. I was welcomed warmly, made to feel very comfortable and given some highly informed guidance with all of the science explained to me in a way that felt accessible. Highly recommended for athletes of all levels.

Fantastic experience: An investment worthwhile. Dr Gary Palmer has the science and personal interest to apply his knowledge to my specific circumstances and create a plan that is unique and doable. He is approachable, personable and scientific. I get the feeling he will do what it takes to meet me more than half way and support me to my goals. When you are ready to realise that all the fads online/T.V/social-media sales are a there for your money - not for you, then have a refreshing change and see Gary. Great start.

Fantastic experience: My doctor recommended a Metabolic Assessment at Sportstest, to help my return to outdoor sports - cycling, hillwalking, kayaking - after an illness. I was delighted with the expert assessment and advice from Garry, the friendly efficiency of himself and his staff, and impressed by the excellent facilities. The advice I received from Garry was clearly based on deep knowledge as I expected, presented and explained carefully and clearly. I came away with a clear understanding of the proper exercise load and nutrition required to get me back to full fitness. I highly recommend Garry and Sportstest and I aim to be back for a retest in the future to keep me on track.

Fantastic experience: I arrived a bit early, but that wasn't a problem! Dr. Palmer made me welcome and explained the process really well before starting. If you want to find your limit and how to get better or just maintain a fitness level, this is an excellent way to do it. After the testing is complete Dr. Palmer explains the results and will offer advice on a training programme to enhance your performance, whether to contest a specific race or prepare for a season, all the information is there. I hope I can do his expertise justice in my training from now on!

Fantastic experience: It’s the second time I have seemed help from Jack, and for very different reasons the first time meeting him I found him very approachable, professional but down to earth he knows his stuff inside and out, I had two sessions went in dragging my leg to walking out even the first time much better by the second visit my leg was back to feeling normal if not better, that was 2022, going back today with historical knee pain and spinal stiffness and discomfort, I knew I was going to Jack, I felt welcome again just as I did the first time, comfortable in his company and within the first 10 minutes of the session he knew the problem took his time explaining to me to issue I had and making sure I understood what the problem was and the next steps. That was my knees next my back for a few readjustments yes uncomfortable but no doubt in my mind that I was/ in safe hands, Jack never does anything that won’t help you he only acts with needed measures. I would never recommend anyone other then Jack recommended to me by a family member in 2022 and still in my contacts as my go to, I always recommend him and will alway only ever go to Jack for anything my body needs to be at its best because he knows, only does what’s needed in the best way possible !!! I’d give ten stars if I could I’d like to say thank you to him for all he had done for me so far and what I know will come with our next for weeks .

Fantastic experience: This place has hands down the best physio I’ve had since leaving New Zealand 8 years ago. Jack is professional, honest and highly tuned in to fixing the issue. I’ve wasted so much money with other physios who just didn’t get down to the root cause of my calf strains and always addressed the soft tissue approach. Jack educated me to understand that it was the strength of my calf that was letting me down time and time again and also a smaller but essential soleus muscle that was the cause of all my calf problems. He solved this by giving me a straightforward plan and also performed soft tissue work. I’m still focused on getting back to where I used to be for running but this by far was my best decision to give them a go as I was slowly loosing hope. I can actually smile again on runs and not fear injury every time.

Fantastic experience: This was only the initial consultation call, even so it was still extremely positive. First of all Garry called exactly on time. This is very important to me as it shows a high level of respect, and builds a lot of trust. During the discussion Garry was very clear about what Sportstest can offer and although he had worked with high performing athletes the focus was totally on what I wanted to achieve and how Garry could help me get there. I'm really looking forward to doing the full triathlon testing, altering my training plan, nutrition and recovery with Garry's guidance. This is step one of a very interesting journey for me. Moving on to the day of analysis, it was fantastic. Don't be put off by the word "Performance" in the title. It is a totally personal day. All the staff were very friendly and everything was done with the athlete as the focus. This was a day of finding your personal level and goals then Garry and the team use their vast knowledge and insight to explain the data and provide recommendations to suit you specifically. A wonderful experience regardless of your personal ability. The swim analysis was just as eye opening, personal and athlete focused as the bike and run sessions. Afterwards I had some very clear steps that I used straight away and saw immediate improvement. At the end of the day I had a folder of info, recommendations, photos and a real sense of achievement and confidence in the next steps I was going to take. Fantastic experience: I had a full test today and as a 72 year old I wanted a benchmark level in order to pitch my training. Garry and the team couldn’t have been more helpful. I now have a much better understand how my physical condition is impacting on my cycling. Or vice versa. I’ll be back in June to check my progress on my target of completing 3 iconic Alpine climbs later in the year.

Run test postponed due to calf niggle, was checked straight away and seen by sport therapist. Great service and experience, also taking welfare into account.

Fantastic experience: The gains I made in the 90 minute session with Amaro were really impressive. I was a frustrated swimmer who had the endurance to swim 2 or 3 km in open water but had no technique whatsoever. In the pool I would be splashing around doing my lengths and other swimmers would just glide passed me effortlessly. Amaro has taking me right back to basics and I now know what I am doing wrong with the help of the visual monitoring. I’m not Michael Phelps yet but with practice I hope to become a far more efficient, injury free swimmer. My 100m time went from 2.34 mins/100m to 1.54mins/100m in one session. I will be back for further tweaking of my technique in a couple of months. Many thanks for sorting me out.

The in-depth performance testing was really informative and will be used to shape my marathon training going forward so I can run most effectively. Fantastic experience: I highly recommend Sportstest if you need help with improving your cycling, running or swimming. It has really helped me focus on a training plan ahead of my half ironman triathlon and beyond that with accurate personal heart rate zones and an organised weekly session schedule and long range plan. Garry has a great knowledge of the cycling and running disciplines involved and gives really helpful advice on swimming and nutrition as well. Above all he is a very nice guy, very easy to talk to and is willing to share his own experiences to help you. It was also lovely meeting Donna and Izzy who make you feel very welcome and are great assistants to Garry. I have since had two swim sessions with Amaro as well. He is a great coach, very encouraging and patient who will help you improve your technique in all aspects of the swim stroke. I look forward to having more sessions to keep improving.

Fantastic experience: Son aged 13 went for an hour swim session .... Wasnt sure what to expect tbh Each part of the session is viewed on 3/4 cameras and shown on the screen (which u take all the clips home on a usb) Even after 10 minutes his stroke had changed so much and after the full hour the improvement was amazing He enjoyed it so much he asked to return the following week for another session which again amazing progress and came home very happy and tired as worked so hard Amaro explains everything very clear and found my son's lost love back for swimming, back to being a poolside mom again so can't thank Amaro enough The facilities are spotless and each member of staff friendly and helpful 5 stars from us definitely give it a try

Fantastic experience: Firstly a fantastic bike session with Dr Garry Palmer, as ever. Makes me understand how to train and where to improve, and I've got a clear, realistic plan to get me to my goal of a long distance triathlon (petrified...!). I can't fault his work, expertise or advice. Secondly a fantastic first swim session with Amaro - he was kind, patient and explained what I needed to work on brilliantly. I came away knowing how I need to improve my swim, and in just 75 minutes I had improved my body position and technique immeasurably, and was swimming much faster with less effort. Amazing! Fantastic experience: As a cyclist I’ve always thought I was doing the right kind of training and although I made some gains I felt that I couldn’t get past a certain level and that brought on a lot of frustration. That is until I went to see Garry at Sportstest. Harry took me through a VO2 Max test on my bike and then sat down and went through the results. The amount of detail combined with Garry’s expertise made it very clear that my approach to my own training plan was just wrong. It made perfect sense why I wasn’t making gains. Garry put me on the right track and I left him with a detailed report in my hand and started my new training plan. Needless to say I’m already seeing the difference. It showed me that you don’t have to be a professional athlete to train smart and make big gains. Thank you Garry!

Positive experience: I had a test in the spring of 2017, I have to admit I was pretty nervous not being a long time cyclist but Dr Palmer went through the whole process and helped me to relax. I was surprised at the level of detail the testing and post analysis went into and it definitely gave me a fantastic insight into my performance level and where I could improve. The biggest question for me was where could I focus my effort to make the most of my limited training time and Gary was able to help guide me in the right direction as well as point out some key ways to lose weight, one of my main focuses as well as improve my performance. The only reason I am not giving this a full 5 stars is the first appointment we arranged I turned up and nobody was there so we had to re-arrange. on the actual day there was also a few issues with the computer which delayed the test and finally when I have been in touch post the test to ask a couple of questions (something which the website invites you to do) and potentially look at some coaching and a second test now I have progressed further I have never been able to get a response.

Fantastic experience: I was a keen cyclist but felt I wasn't getting the most out of my limited training time. I enjoyed time trialling but trying to copy online plans and advice just wasn't working. I got a bit fed up and decided to spend my money on a Sportstest rather than a new carbon saddle. What a decision! After my first test Dr. Palmer wrote me an outline plan based on the results and in the 3 months after I improved massively. I went back every 3 months as the improvements in my fitness were quite substantial I ended up being coached by Dr. Palmer full time having been convinced to start Triathlon. I never thought I'd be at the level I am now 3 years down the line and am still improving each month. The training I get from Dr. Palmer isn't just a copy and paste job from TrainingPeaks but bespoke to me based around my goals, life and physical condition. Before you buy your next bit of bling consider getting a Sportstest instead!
