Negative experience: I am writing to address an ongoing issue with my Anytime Fitness account, which has escalated despite previous assurances and actions. I have been wrongly charged for membership fees and now my parents are being harassed by a debt collection agency, despite fulfilling my obligations, being assured this matter was resolved and me being out of the country since May 2024. To clarify the timeline: Membership Cancellation Attempts: I moved to Taiwan in May 2024 to travel and have not used your facilities since April 2024. I attempted to cancel my membership online in April and May but never received a confirmation email. Despite multiple follow-ups via email on these dates: Friday, 26th July, 9:27 PM Friday, 4th October, 4:37 PM Monday, 21st October, 6:03 PM Unfortunately, I received no response to any of my communications. Wrongful Charges: I was charged membership fees for June, July, and August 2024, despite having moved abroad and believing my membership was cancelled. Payment of Arrears: On 11th September 2024, I reluctantly paid £203.97 in arrears to resolve this dispute and avoid further stress (proof of payment is attached in the previous email). Unresolved Issues and Lack of Confirmation: On December 9th, I spoke directly with the manager, Lee Ennis, who assured me that my membership was cancelled, no further charges would apply, and that debt collectors would not be involved. He has since left the company and the current managers can't help me. Despite this assurance and multiple previous attempts to contact your team, I still have not received confirmation that my membership has been cancelled. To make matters worse, debt collectors have since turned up at my parents' house, causing unnecessary distress. This situation is not only unacceptable but also a repeat of a prior issue I experienced with Anytime Fitness in 2019, where I was wrongly charged and faced unnecessary confrontation. This pattern of poor management and communication has been deeply frustrating. To resolve this matter, I request the following: A full refund for the June, July, and August 2024 charges, as I had moved out of the UK to travel, did not use the facilities, and made multiple unsuccessful attempts to cancel my membership. Immediate and confirmed cancellation of my membership to prevent further charges. Assurance and written confirmation that my account is cleared of any alleged arrears, that no further debt collection action will occur, and that my parents will not be contacted again. This situation has caused significant distress and wasted time, and I trust you will act promptly to rectify it. Whats worse, there are hundreds of other people going through this leaving 1 star reviews on google, please respond ASAP.

Negative experience: A terrible business, not to be trusted, Closed down our local gym without notice. Said they would refund the paid up front members then avoided contact and don't return emails. Now they have disconnected the phone. be very careful.

Negative experience: I will be referring these to the ombudsman shortly having waited for a refund of £225 since May 2024. After cancelling my membership they decided upon themselves to not do this. Due to not responding to an email. The managers at Milton Keynes branch has Said he has requested my refund but since then I have had further debits come out and messages stating I'm in arrears. I'm still no further with my request for my money

Negative experience: Terrible support for franchise owners and members. Head office has failings from the top down. A special mention goes to Kate, Eliza, and Maria the weasel, as well as that gonk of an ex-manager Brett, all of whom are completely and utterly useless. BEWARE!

Negative experience: The Solihull gym closed giving us 1 day notice and never refunded our £11 for the 2 fibs (my partner only signed up couple of months ago)!!! I emailed head office about this and heard absolutely nothing!!! Now part of a better gym and will never be using anytime fitness even if it as on my doorstep.

Negative experience: I signed up with Anytime Fitness - its always a years contract. After 9 months, i moved over 180 miles from the branch. My closes branch is within 15 miles of my new home - however takes over 1.5 hours walk, 45 minutes by public transport and if driving - have to pay £2 a day. Called the branch who i signed up with, they are of the view of tough. The branch close to my new home say they would usually cancel in my circumstance. Corporate greed is in play here and affecting a customers wellbeing - but this gym does not care!!

Negative experience: I got approached in the street and encouraged to sign up myself and two family members who were not present. When I got home i checked them out online and decided I didn’t want to join. The two family members also did not want to join. I emailed requesting to cancel membership within 24hrs and well within 14 day cooling off period. Not one of us had attended the gym. I was informed the cancellation had been processed. I also received an email confirming the cancellation within cooling off period. I then received another email advising me to cancel direct debit. My bank informed me no direct debit had been set up. Fast forward a month and I was notified of 3 direct debits set up to my bank account. I deleted all 3. Today I received text and email from the gym informing me that my payments are late and that I will incur a £12 charge for each membership (myself and 2 family members). I tried to contact the manager that had emailed me to confirm the cancellations but of course he is unavailable. Absolutely shocking and disgusting. AVOID AVOID AVOID!!!

Negative experience: When I first joined this gym they gave me a fob asking for 35 pounds deposit for it. After 1 year I decided to finish my membership with them and when I went to return the fob they said that they didn't need it back and that I would not get the 35 pounds back. Just a disgrace really. Will never join this gym again and will not recommend it to anyone. This is not right. Plain and sim.

Negative experience: Absolutely terrible company, took ages to cancel my membership, I first cancelled the direct debit then paid using my card online only for my card to be defrauded after using there online payment system, I am no longer a member and they still keep sending messages to set up s direct debit!

Negative experience: The whole Bedford franchise is a joke. I was getting charged during lockdown when the gym wasn’t even open. I requested for my membership to be closed and they still took the money. I’ve emailed and called the gym regarding this and I was told I’d get a refund. This was months ago. Having to chase this is ridiculous because they didn’t need to chase me for my money but all of sudden it’s hard to refund me. This whole situation is ridiculous and they even had the cheek to email me to come back to the gym. This is now why I’m currently not joining a gym. Would not recommend at all. I’d give it a minus rating but that not possible.

Negative experience: AVOID I cancelled my membership in April 2020 to find they’ve since billed me for a membership I cancelled, I’ve sent all evidence of this amounting up to £300+, I’ve got a log of ALL calls and emails to the company dating back to July 2021 trying to get reimbursement of this without any luck and just constant lies / false hope. I will now be escalating matters to a solicitor.

Negative experience: I thought I was the only one but it seems not Woolwich anytime fitness gym is disgusting After many times ringing the gym & was told they would ring me back they never did :( So had to go into the gym & cancel my membership due to bad back , paid up to end of membership .. then notice they where still taking money out of my bank ? So ringing them many times with no joy !

Negative experience: I was a member of the Chelsea branch. Fully paid up until lockdown. I cancelled my direct debit owing nothing only to get demands for 2 months money when we were in lockdown and they were closed. Went in when they were open FIVE TIMES trying to resolve this, was told I would get a call back each time, Sent email no one ever called. Today when I was going to hopefully re-join got an email from a CREDIT COLLECTION AGENCY for 3 times the amount that I still don’t owe!!!! Forget this company. Thieves

Negative experience: Harassment, bullying and the inability to respond to emails or phone calls. Maybe if the staff spent less time on their phones and filming for social media, they may be available to take calls. Wanting to pay my bill and end my contract but seems I’m not allowed to do that. Absolute joke of a gym and no one has a clue! Not in to intimidation tactics that this gym company uses and I’m certainly not the only person to have this reaction.

Negative experience: I've had a issue with anytime fitness sutton in ashfield during the covid-19. I had to cancel my direct debt because lack of funds. But I contacted the gym to inform them of this and I asked them to freeze my account and they said it is frozen. And now they have text me telling me they can not freeze my account because the direct debit is not active. During this hard time in the world surely they should be understanding?. I also asked them to cancel my membership because I'm not receiving the service I signed up for because the gym is closed and they just keep asking me for money and to set up a direct debt they dont care or have and understand about this current situation we are all in. this is sickening that a company can act like this I want to end my membership but I can not what sort of gym is this ? I fear I will have to take legal action about this because they are totally out of order.

Negative experience: Signed up for 12 months. After all 12 payments made I tried to cancel on the website. This funct was the only thing on website that did not load tried opening the link in a new tab but nothing. So cancelled direct debit. Recieved a text saying account in arrears need to pay another 35 quid to cancel. Paid this still can't cancel. Emailed head office no response emailed and called the local Paignton branch and the manager is never there to speak all I want to do is cancel an apparent rolling direct debit which I was not made aware of when signing up as i only signed up for 12 months. Negative experience: Joined the Ashton-under-lyne branch over a month and a half ago, they sold us a PT special offer (with gym access) then permanently closed the gym 2 days later with no warning. Since the day it closed we've asked for refunds and we've got nothing! Just promises that it would be returned within 5-7 days... a month and a half later and still nothing. No way to get in contact directly with the company aside from Facebook as they don't answer their emails. I definitely won't be joining with them again and won't be recommending them either.

Negative experience: Its a trap. First of all there is very highly unlikely you can get a hold of someone to talk over the phone. I tried them number of times and got no luck. I have taken a year membership and wanted to cancel it as situation changes and I moved a home in 6th month, now there is no closeby Fitness center to my location (the nearest is 6 mile ... and I dont wish to continue as another 20-30 min one way drive was not possible for me) . Finally emailed them for cancellation with one month advance in the 11th month. No reply from Anytime Fitness and still chasing them to clear my direct debit... Really poor service

Negative experience: Dealing with anytime fitness Rugby and the UK Support Centre has been one of the worst experiences I have had with any company. They are only interested in taking money, so if at any point you want to cancel your membership this franchise is not for you. Their T&C's state that you need to give 1 months written notice, however the fantastic part is they don't read any of the emails you send via the online submission or the complaints despite this saying I will have a response within 48 hours. The manager of Rugby is about as useful as a chocolate fire guard and the UK support centre doesn't have a customer service department so there isn't really any escalation process. I only found this out after sending a recorded letter that I can only believe ended up in the bin! After chasing up my letter with clubwise and anytime I got put back on the phone with the chocolate fireguard. Eventually I got a name out of him of someone to speak to at the UK centre and I had to scroll through the internet to get a number for them. I rang the centre, spoke to the chap in Marketing who said their name must of been given because "the manager likes me". I was PROMISED a response the next day and yet I'm still waiting 5 days on. Try ringing now and miraculously everyone is in a meeting. Not a happy customer, I am getting the email for the Chief operating officer and taking it to the top. Stay away from these cowboys. Edit - I have just noticed the reply below, this company still has not addressed the fact then never once replied to me in the first instance, they were quite happy to disregard the written notice as stated in the T&C's to continue taking money which is clearly all they care about. Finally I don't refuse to deal with the club, I want answers which is what I'm not getting. They are just saying I refuse to deal so they don't have to contact me back. Absolute Jokers.

Hi Alex, we spoke on the phone but as explained there is nothing that the Anytime Fitness UK Support Office can do in regards to membership cancellation - as per the membership agreement terms and conditions, a full calendar month's notice is required (not a month between final payments). I did speak to the club again to get in touch with you regarding this but they have stated you've refused to communicate further with them. A cancellation on 2nd September would mean October is final payment month (i.e. full month's notice).

Negative experience: No phone number, no reply to emails or complaints, I tried cancelling due to my mother being ill and me having to relocate and care for her and was met with an extremely rude branch manager (basingstoke) who refused to cancel & promised to freeze my account 2-3 months ago yet payments are STILL coming out. I haven't set foot in the gym in months, I don't plan to EVER again as I've never dealt with staff that are so rude and who make you feel uncomfortable stepping foot in the gym. Anytime fitness is THE WORST gym chain I've ever witnessed, 0 customer care as they just want your money and ignore everything else.

Negative experience: My husband and I wanted to cancel our memberships of 'anytime fitness Bath' as frankly we were sick of paying not to go! The contract had started in August 18 and we cancelled in early september 19. We had sent emails to gym about cancelling our memberships. Having read the less than satisfactory reports about how this company manages cancellations we also advised out respective banks that we cancelling our direct debits too. We both received confirmation that the cancellation email to the gym had been received. However because we had cancelled in september we were advised that had to give 28 days notice. Ironic since the last time we were able to go to the gym was around March. Once the gym realised that we had cancelled our direct debits that when things started to heat up. We were told that we needed to reinstate our direct debits.... I replied that I dont wish to but was happy (not really as I feel like I'm being mugged) to make the payment in another way. I asked how I could do this but have to date received no response to this only a barrage of emails and text insisting that I reinstate my direct debit. Presumably I will be accuring additional charges as I refuse to let this gym be the puppet master on what is my bank account. I have offered to make payment in another format but this company does not understand how to act in a reasonable manner.

Negative experience: Any time fitness India, Mumbai, Andheri branch, Gym is not equipped, fake promises made by the owners during membership. No Spinning cycle/ no workout Tyre's/ no battle rope. Owners don't take the complain of the members seriously.

Negative experience: Their cancelation policy if you move to a new country is unfair. I will be calling trading standards EDIT: Leaving anytime fitness within the 12 months contracted period seems to me almost as difficult as leaving a cult, once you try they seem to want to ostracise you and make your life difficult. I have moved to a new country, I have provided proof, but under their unfair terms, they restrict what proof they will accept, making it impossible to leave. They do not respond to emails, you talk to someone, and they promise you will get a phone call, but no one calls back, head office blames the gym, the gym blames head office, they are rude, discourteous and frankly seem to enjoy harassing so-called customers. Stay away from them, and join a gym that is polite, flexible and communicative. Also if they ask you to email them at the head office you are wasting your time, they don’t respond. While not responding to any emails or calls they are happy to harass you with text messages

Negative experience: When I joined Anytime Fitness they stated I could cancel my membership with one months notice if I moved to an area without an Anytime Fitness. I have moved to another country but because I am unable to provide exactly the documentation they require (proof of purchase) I have not purchased yet, and utilities bill (staying with family) they will not allow me to cancel my membership, despite providing other paperwork (that was good enough for the banks in the country I am moving to and the government of the country) Rude and inflexible.

Negative experience: How to cancel your Anytime Fitness Membership? It is essential you write a letter and send it RECORDED DELIVERY to when you want to cancel your membership of Anytime Fitness Macclesfield. It is not good enough just to email in or hand deliver your letter like I did because what they will do is act like they're processing it and then just ignore it. Anytime Fitness Macclesfield took over two months from the date I gave them my first letter to actually acknowledge my cancellation and that involved numerous calls and emails. It was a very unpleasant experience. Even after receiving confirmation of cancellation and thinking the situation was resolved I still received unauthorised payment requests from their central billing team (Clubwise). If you can get through to the central team they are equally unhelpful and don't want to take any responsibility - even though they're billing you! Dreadful customer service which is only match by the lazy unfriendly attitude of the gym staff and the hollow atmosphere of the club itself. The gym is eerily quiet, rarely tidy and poorly laid out, and the staff are generally disinterested and unhelpful. If you're serious about getting fit there's wide choice of much better gyms in Macclesfield including DW, The Leisure Centre, Macc College and The Tythy Club as well as some really good independent studios like Carla Gilder Fitness or Cross Fit Silk. Anytime & Clubwise are a total shambles. Do yourself a favour and don't get involved with this miserable bunch of con artists in the first place.

Negative experience: I joined the Abingdon branch in Jan this year as this was the only 24h gym in the area and I prefer to go late during the evenings due to my anxiety. I phoned the gym in around May to freeze my membership for 1-2 months due to going away on holiday which was fine and it was done without any issues. I called again just before September wanting to cancel my membership due to a medical condition and was told that i'll have to obtain a letter from my GP (due to 12 month contact) however until then they will freeze my account for 3 months. They also said since i was calling so close to beginning of September, The direct debit for September will still come out as normal however it will be taken as final payment when your membership is cancelled. I don't see why i should have to pay for September however i agreed none the less. Since i had 3 months not to mention i'm quite busy working 7 days a week, I decided to get a letter from my GP during my next check up mid October however i noticed the Gym taking Octobers payment when they should not have. I called in to the gym about this and was initially told to call before 4PM to speak to the manger about this as he works 10-4. I called in the following day and the manager refused to help at all. He claimed i was lying and they have no record of my account being frozen and to pop in the gym if i need to discuss further and hung up. i've since contacted them on facebook and they have refused to help me and my account is STILL active meaning they are intending to take Novembers payment (which they bloody well won't as i'll be cancelling - £39 doesn't grow on trees). The gym is refusing to freeze my account even still and they have the cheek to tell me that even if i provide them with written notice of cancellation + GP letter, they will still take November + December payment and won't issue a refund to my Door fob deposit. I work pretty hard for my money and don't intend these frauds to take my hard earned money hence i'm intending to go to court. STAY AWAY FROM THIS BRAND! Replying to the reply below I think you need to re-read the the review above. The issue is your team not freezing my account and charging me for Sep, Oct, Nov and now Dec.

Hi Kash, we have not refused to help you, we have provided the information to us given by the club in relation to this as per the terms and conditions of the membership agreement - we do need proof in writing for cancellations and written notice. We do not refund keyfob payments either as it is not a deposit but a purchase for your global access key. I am sorry you are unhappy with this but we have given you all the necessary information for cancellation.
