Nuffield Health Norbury Fitness & Wellbeing Gym: Opinions
Positive experience: members of staff do make an effort to provide a positive experience however it's clear money has not been invested to renew the premises. Carpet is too old and stinks and it's a bad choice for a gym anyway (Health... excuse me?), the jacuzzi is closed and the functional fitness area is too small. the price does not justify the membership, sorry I'm leaving
Negative experience: Worse experience with a personal trainer called Ade!! While I was doing my workout she kept asking me to put my weights away…I always put my weights away…maybe she felt like I was an easy target but I don’t know why she felt the need to keep coming up to me and repeating herself. I never give bad reviews but this had to be done…you don’t act like that with regular members, especially if I’m paying that price for this crappy gym and she kept disturbing my workout when the gym was almost empty!! Deffo gonna terminate my membership! There are cheaper gyms with better equipment and staff with less attitude!
Negative experience: Dirty gym ever seen in London and staff rubbish my advice please don’t go there
Negative experience: When I first joined this gym just after the pandemic, it cost £52 per month. I see it has now increased to £72 per month, nearly 40% higher. In that time we no longer have the spa bath, the cleanliness In the gym is at max a 2/10, equipment is routinely broken, steam room is barely ever cleaned and the gym area is substandard. I think you'd be crazy to join this gym for £72 per month personally.
Negative experience: Awful gym do not waste your money or your time, Gym equipment old and rusty changing rooms dirty, just not a very pleasant place to go to its not worth the money that you're paying there are cheaper better gyms out there.
Positive experience: Very good gym. Lovely community and excellent pool. Gym equipment and changing areas would benefit from investment - some gym kit is quite tired and repairs needed around changing rooms / sauna / toilets
Fantastic experience: Have been coming to this gym for 15yrs + and even though have attempted, can’t train anywhere else. There’s a community feel to this gym which I’ve experienced no where else, everyone is very welcoming, unlike other gyms that can be intimidating. Staff are also very friendly and welcoming, always resolved any issues I’ve had promptly and professionally. The classes are amazing from HIIT classes, spin, Pilates and yoga to name a few. Also love the added benefits of having a swimming pool, sauna and steam room. Even the tennis courts come in handy during the summer months.
Positive experience: Being a member over 10 years I cannot escape from the fact that overall the gym had been in general a good place for workout. The reason for lower rating is sadly lack of good class instructions with few exceptions. 2-3 years ago and more classes were absolutely packed. Even though they were more hi-impact members could work on low impact level . Now , in my opinion of course,it feels like the vibe is gone. It would be beneficial if the management would consider bringing back the instructors - especially if they are keen to come back! Also the booking system in place has caused some confusion in the past - e.g. Thursday evening class was booked and I was on the waiting list- on my arrival I saw only 10 people in the studio. It would also help if receptionists would know who covers classes and have a list of instructors on holiday. 2 weeks ago I have asked for manager to express my thoughts and was told "you looking at one ". When I started talking the gentleman in for me at all I'm just a sales manager . Hopefully the overall impression of the place will improve as it has fabulous location and good facilities . *Small edit after so many years! I still love the place for community. I’m sad to see people giving negative comments... it’s not that bad cmon guys! I know the equipment could be updated and studio cleaned more but I have been visiting Flagship branch in Canon Street and it is soulless. Everyone to themselves and not v motivational. I need to applaud Ryan, DB, Lawrence. Ade could possibly soften more to understand workout is supposed to be fun and we should be allowed to pick up/change equipment. after all we paying her wages! I’m not entirely convinced locking the studio door during class (last time on 28.10 during Ade class) is in line with fire safety regulations, but I have full trust in management a) being aware of it and b) trusting we could use the other door in case of emergency. Location is prime, car park is definitely a plus. I still love Nuffields (missing Troy classes though ! He’s still one of the best instructors that were in Nuffields) and I hope you all can see it too! Peace!
Thank you Mali for taking the time to detail your feedback, we appreciate this. We also take on board your comments for review. However, we are pleased that overall you are enjoying your gym experience with us. Kind regards, Nuffield Health Norbury Fitness & Wellbeing Gym.
Fantastic experience: Not sure why this place has such bad reviews. Been going here for about 2 years now, staff are always kind and helpful, it’s the little things that count like when my daughter forgot her swimming googles the lifeguard offered her one(unfortunately i couldn’t catch the name but she was lovely the whole time!) The gym has good equipment and in the changing rooms there is even a sauna!! I really recommend it!
Negative experience: Poor customer service with lack of response, especially from the senior management team. Not enough of the machines work and this branch closes earlier than the others. Much better experience at other Nuffield branches!
Negative experience: Visited after a year as last time I visited changing areas smelled of piss. They have gone one step ahead as this time it shit smells everywhere.. walked in and straight back out. Never again. Awful awful place..
Negative experience: I had a 12month contract with this gym, they have some serious equipment and hygiene maintenance issues and to top it off the staff are almost as helpful as a brick wall. I checked 2 months prior to my contract ending if I needed to do anything for the end of my contract as I didn’t not want to renew. I was told no by the lady at reception. And then they continued to charge me past my end date. I raised it with them in all methods, email, over the phone and in branch and no one wanted to acknowledge the incompetence of their staff. Because of the staff I had to pay an extra month of fees which is not cheap. Avoid!! Better off going to The Gym Group in Norbury!!
Negative experience: It's not great. It's clearly in decline, steam room doesn't work most of the time, very tired looking. I only come here as they have a sauna. The air con doesn't work well in summer very hot in the weights area. No point to complain as it will fall on deaf ears. The gym group down the road has better facilities and cheaper - if only they had a sauna/steam room I would leave Nuffield straight away. Update: I left this gym and on reflection it was the best thing to do. Id rather work out in the park than pay good money for this substandard, rubbishy gym. Even the most basic requirement, ventilation/AC is not met here.
Negative experience: Nuffield Health have some good gyms but this one is very poor.
Negative experience: Went with a mate for a day £60 for a month with some machines broken and machine room smelling like chlorine from pool downstairs only good thing is the sauna and steam room
Negative experience: I expect more from a big health company. Nuffield Health have some good gyms but this one is very poor. Very run down and in need of new equipment
Negative experience: Probably the worst customer service of any gym I have ever been to in London. If I could give zero stars I would I have been met by high levels of disappointment treatment on a number of occasions. I am a tier 1 member and attend here on the off chance and always wish I never came. Advice, get a strong manager that isn't afraid to ask the staff to be accountable
Negative experience: Absolute disgrace of a gym. Equipment is rusting and falling apart. None of the carabiniers match or fit the equipment properly making it dangerous. Fly machine has been broken for months, assisted dip is so rusty it is unusable. The main room is full of condensation, AC units always broken and the place stinks of mould. Pool/sauna often out of order. The Nuffield brand should be ashamed to be affiliated with this place.
Negative experience: Don’t bother - having attended this gym for years and off for years and tried going back I’ve watch it’s steadily deteriorate…the management of this gym don’t bother - the gym equipment is constantly in need of repair and neglected the sauna and pool are always closing - the women’s sauna is underneath heavy weights being thrown about directly above your head - the management don’t make any effort to resolve complaints- - staff and clients park across emergency vehicle access daily and no one intervenes ( when asked they say they don’t have the staff to deal with this) there’s never any presence of staff in the gym and weights and equipment are left around haphazardly - nó sense of Well Being at All - i Dont know how Health and Safety issues allow this GYM to operate - other Nuffields Appears to have múch better Management.
Negative experience: The worst gym in London. Can't say good word about gym, about members of staff. This place should be closed.. even if you cancle your contract they still charge you. Lol
Negative experience: Rubbish gym for the money. Many machines are out of order and stay that way for months. Some are removed rather than fixed. Taps in men's changing room are either broken or spew out dangerously hot water. Locker doors dangle from broken hinges. I complained, and they agreed and said they weren't happy with their maintenance provider, and said they will escalate it. Yet they still took my money for an additional month I didn't want after cancelling my monthly contract. Now they have stopped replying to my emails. Utterly disgraceful.
Negative experience: Would re think about booking swimming sessions here! We came back after 10 years as my Daughter had done swimming lessons here and did well! Decided to come back and what a mistake! Pool was closed more times Then it was open , always some lame excuse to why it was closed. changing rooms always had hair or food packets left on the floor. Nigel the manager is an absolute racist who quite frankly cannot deal with any complaints professionally! A complaint was made about Sebastian the lifeguard i was told a full investigation would be made & heard nothing from the complaint raised with Nuffield head office and the head of swim! Because I complained they suspended our lessons rather than investigating. Very professional I Realised there were Far better swim schools locally with cleaner facilities, Wouldn’t call lifeguards slumped on the floor in a corner eating pizza very professional. Honestly save yourself some money and go elsewhere!!
Negative experience: This is the most rubbish gym, that’s on God. DON’T ever sign up as they make it extremely difficult to leave the contract so you end up paying months and months as they send you on a loop around- call this person, go to the gym, write a letter to the manager. I just want to end my contract. Absolute disgrace
Negative experience: One of the worst gyms I have attended. Machines/equipment out of order/broken/rusted through and not being fixed at all. Classes are poorly directed with more chit chat than excersise, practice often interupted. Teaching is unconventional and not in a good way. Great parking, shame everyone parks in the 'do not park' zones including areas for emergency vehicles and this is not monitored by staff. Staff attitude incredibly poor and negative.
Positive experience: If you’re looking for a fab range of classes then look no further. Whenever you want to work out there is always a class available and I really like the fact that each instructor brings their own approach. My fave is Kamil for spin on Tuesdays but I also did a fantastic class with Ben this morning! Yoga with Joseph on Saturdays is heavenly and always sets me up for the weekend.
Negative experience: Had an appointment booked today at 9:30. At 9:05 got a call saying this was cancelled and that it hadn’t been communicated to me. Took the morning off work and was very almost there. Would avoid. If I could give 0* I would m.
Fantastic experience: After reading reviews was a bit wary, but went along to Aqua on Saturday Morning with Isabelle. Had an amazing time instructor is fantastic , feel like I've had a proper workout, can't wait to come along for another class ! Enjoyed also the steam room, showers and changing room was fine, I will be going again. Reception staff were really helpful, great car park
Negative experience: I would avoid. Yes the gym is a bit outdated however it still able to provide a great workout if you need. In comparison to many other Nuffield gyms the standards fall below the usual such as Southside, Surbiton and Croydon as they are GREAT. Norbury is my closest but would much rather go further out and this will be my last time attending. Took part in a step class on Sunday with probably one of the most amazing instructors I have come across however I then took part in a Pump class where I was made to feel inadequate and humiliated. Needless to say I will not be returning and I hope I do not have to cross paths with Ade again. During the class I needed to go toilet - I was shouted at and told not to walk around. I hadn't put the weights onto the bar quick enough and was also then told to hurry up. I then put my bar to the side of my step instead of in front "I told you to put it in front I clearly showed you in front" being extremely condescending and patronising. We then progressed to the next exercise where we needed additional plates (obviously very reluctant to move after the verbal attack) she shouted that I needed more weights to which I responded "I didn't know if I was allowed to move after being told off earlier" She then got me two of the heaviest plates - to which the class then laughed at me/her (as it was obvious I was not going to be able to perform the next part of the workout with the plates presented). I was stunned and evidently didn't pick them up. She instructed for us to pick them up, "they are in front of you" "they are there" to which I replied "I am leaving" I understand that sometimes that trainers put on a facade however this was honestly awful. I was reluctant to leave a review as I have family members affiliated and associated with Nuffield however what I came across today was unacceptable and has to stop myself from crying.
Fantastic experience: Amazing fitness centre
Fantastic experience: Amazing service from Kadeem when signing up, followed by a variation of classes from different but equally as powerful instructors. Not to mention the friendly staff on reception, it’s a yes from me :)
Fantastic experience: Well organised very friendly and amazing support for all levels of fitness.
Negative experience: Staff are amazing but the actual facilities are terrible the place smells, floors dirty, the machines are OLD with a limited number of dumbells, sauna the benches are broken, swim suit drying machine is FILTHY, everything needs updating however the Staff are friendly and helpful and I hear the classes are very good here
Negative experience: Something is always broken if it’s not Steam room, Sauna room or be a shower room. Equipment is way too old as well! Not sure what the management are doing to be honest of this branch perhaps higher management needs to look into this but I get the feelings they are not bothered either! My advice do not join unless above are sorted or upgraded!
Negative experience: Service terrible, limited classes in Norbury, non cholent staff. There are cheaper gyms in Streatham that charge considerably less.
Negative experience: The theft at this place continues, now with my Ma’s phone getting stolen. Honestly, an absolute dive of a gym. Having your locker broken into and wallet stolen whilst working out is not a good sign. The staff are nice enough, but doesn’t make for a pleasant gym experience. To then be told that they would simply log the issue rather than calling the police was pretty damned rude; essentially the blame was out at my feet, as I couldn’t prove that I’d locked my locker. The fact that my wallet was found in a bush 2 streets away just goes to show what kind of place this is. I then have to wait over a week to get a call from the manager. Rumour is that the lease on the site is running out, hence no funds diverted to the club, and it shows. Avoid like the plague. Although given the cleanliness, there’s a decent chance you’d have caught it here.
Positive experience: So.. I’ve been a member around 5 months and there’s never been a day I’ve come here where everything is working. Something is always out of service. Unless you come before 5 - the gym is oversubscribed. Too many people sit on machines texting whilst you wait. I still can’t use the app to book gym classes either - I’ve contacted their support lines endlessly but they never answer or call back. It’s a private member gym but the pool is almost unusable due to classes always taking place. It’s not even a nice place to be, as the swimming instructor shouts constantly at the class kids. When the lanes are operated for lane swimming - they’re too narrow which invariably means you collide with people. On the plus side - The gym has all the equipment I need and has a nice view from the gym whilst you work out.
Positive experience: While it's true that there are some negative reviews, my continued presence at this place is due to two main reasons. Firstly, my love for swimming keeps me coming back. Secondly, the classes offered here are truly worthwhile. Among them, my favorite is the body pump class with Ade. It's moderately challenging and enjoyable. Ade's approach always makes everyone feel welcome, regardless of their pace or ability to keep up with the exercises. Her supportive attitude ensures there's no pressure, fostering a comfortable and encouraging environment.
Negative experience: Old equipment atleast 20 years old, bugs in the changing rooms.Gym needs to be upgraded badly. Here are the videos. https://nextdoor.co.uk/p/_h66t7ySDtR2?utm_source=share&extras=MTc1OTIyMDE4NjE2MTE%3D
Negative experience: Terrible old gym which belongs in 1998. You can put up with that, but you can’t put up with the small number bullies who think they run this gym with their clique. Bullying others and supported by staff too scared to grow a backbone. Awful environment.
Negative experience: Absolutely terrible management and cleaning of equipment. Spoke to Nigel Mansfield, operations manager at Norbury Nuffield but received zero assistance/help. Absolutely would not recommend.
Negative experience: Terrible service, booked a physio appointment, only to turn up on the day and be told it had been cancelled due to unforeseen circumstances. It would have been helpful to have been emailed and told this rather than be sent text reminders to attend the appointment. Pretty rubbish Nuffield.
Negative experience: Out of date equipment at least 20yrs old. The steppers are totally worn out making horrible grinding noises. Equipment is always broken being repaired slowly. The air con is useless in Summer. Changing rooms are run down and terrible condition. The whole gym needs a total refurbishment. They also try to kick you out 30 min before actual gym closing time. The budget gyms have much better and newer equipment for much less cost. Don't join unless you are ready to be very disappointed. Nuffield should be ashamed of this gym.
Negative experience: It’s my closet Nuffield gym but I avoid it at all costs. The facilities are awful, the gym equipment is very old and constantly out of use. They charged my partner £15 for a guest pass however my original tier 1 gym (Bromely) always has at least one guest pass per month for paying customers to use - I pay for a joint membership which we use once per week so a £15 charge to use the gym seems ridiculous. I will continue to avoid this gym until they offer better service for customers and better facilities.
Positive experience: Great centre.. Needs a good clean and some investment. Steam room unavailable. Jacuzzi unavailable. Otherwise it's o.k.
Fantastic experience: Decent gym for the area, classes are what sold it for me so I signed up for 12 months today after trying it out for a month (paid). Staff are super friendly and the general manager provides excellent customer service. Only things that need improvement are the mats for the classes, they look like they’re 20 years old so I bring my own! Steam room has also been out of service the whole month so I’ve been unable to use it which is disappointing.
Negative experience: My friend and I went to the gym today, I'm a member they charged her £15 to use the pool, Which was full of children haveing swimming classes. We spoke to the manager but He still made us pay. I don't mind paying for a full day to use the facilities 20 min swim in a pool of kids is unreasonable m bu
Negative experience: This is my local gym and but I'm not member because it doesn't do 24hours how ☹ sad waste of time
Negative experience: No good service
Fantastic experience: Staff are brilliant and friendly, and the pool I love!!!!! Prefer this to the slight stuffy Wimbledon branch which I was a member of for years while I lived there, however despite this being a tier 2 club, at Norbury the pool is bigger, there is ample parking, gym is nice and well equipped, plenty of studio classes daily, and a lawn that can be used. We call this our country club
Positive experience: The lifeguard were at charge today at swimming pool Was not helpful and was so rude to me and my kids for second time He wearing glasses by the way Don’t know his name I asked him for his name to make complain about his attitude He told me my name is James I want to receptionto speak to anybody there I heard him speak to the guy at reception And telling him costmer is coming for complain Don’t tell him my name If he ask tell him my name is James and this was laying from him He was keeping looking to me and my kids at the pool today I went to the swimming pool around 3:20pm today
Negative experience: I don’t want to recommend it all, faulty equipments, dirty showers, fees is going to be higher every single moth, first giving you discount after you singed contract every month price is going to be higher
Negative experience: I've used many different Nuffield health gyms in all tiers, apart from the staff this norbury branch is not what you would expect from a tier 2 nuffield health gym, its definitely the worst Nuffield health gym I've ever seen. Leicesters tier 3 gym blows this out of the water. Facilities in Norbury are very run down and aged, alot of the gym equipment are hand me downs from other gyms that have received refurbishments, steam room is out of order alot of the time, jacuzzis not operating indefinitely, things do not get fixed within a reasonable time frame. It's definitely not worth the membership fee, the only thing going for this place is the location and most of the staff.
Negative experience: I cancelled my direct debit but their incompetent staff didn’t cancel my account and I’ve been debited twice. The manager, Tyrone won’t contact me despite multiple attempts and calls. Avoid this dump.
Hi Sina, thanks for this constructive feedback and apologies for the issues with the pool, that will have impacted your club visits. Works have now been completed and pool operations have returned to normal. We're working across the centre to improve the member experience. In the meantime, thank you again for this feedback. Best wishes, the Norbury Fitness and Wellbeing Team
Negative experience: This gym is not as clean and they don’t provide towels. Also they do not let you after few minutes after 9pm they claim 9pm is last entry and I don’t see this nowhere in the app. Very disappointed
Fantastic experience: Lovely staffs, huge space.
Lovely rating and review Likhasitt, thanks for taking the time to share your Norbury Club experience. Best wishes, the Norbury Fitness and Wellbeing Team
Negative experience: Very disgusting place full of bacteria!!! Please avoid this place for your own safety.
Hi Jan, sorry to read you are dissatisfied with your club experience. If you have any concerns, please do not hesitate to request the Duty Manager on your next visit. Best wishes, the Norbury Fitness and Wellbeing Team
Negative experience: Attended today for an induction, an incident occurred and heard someone ask to cancel their membership. I was left waiting for 35 minutes, when I approached the receptionist she oh I forgot, but the Manager is busy!! In my frustration I left, still to hear from someone!! Is this the way perspective members are treated, or Nuffield had its quota of members and need no more?
Hi Janis, thanks for this feedback and apologies for the poor customer service experience. We currently have a 3-day trial pass, available to download from the club page: https://www.nuffieldhealth.com/gyms/norbury we hope you can make use of this and see what we have to offer. In the meantime, apologies again for this poor customer service experience. Best wishes, the Norbury Fitness and Wellbeing Team
Negative experience: Very poor hygiene most of the time facilities out off order and people using shaving equipment in sauna and steam room, management don't do nothing about it. Manager name Lee very rude and useless, unprofessional. Don't waste your time and money this Nuffield very very poor quality!
Hi Arthur, thank you for this feedback and apologies for these service issues that will have subsequently impacted your club visits. We will keep a close eye on the wet facilities to ensure they are used correctly and we really appreciate yours and your co-members patience, while our service engineers fixed the plant room issues that have had a significant impact on pool and facility operations, earlier in the year. Best wishes, the Norbury Fitness and Wellbeing Team
Negative experience: Would not waste your money signing up to this place last time I come here the Jacuzzi was not working as usual three months down the line I’ll pop in there and guess what the Jacuzzi the steam room and the swimming pool not working this time the endless list of things not working in this gym is getting above a joke
Hi Johnny thanks for this feedback and apologies for the impact the spa pool closure has had on your visits. Following a further review, we can confirm that the spa pool is now permanently closed. Any savings from this will be reinvested into improving the club. We are pleased to confirm that since remedial works were completed on the pools plant room, no further service disruptions have occurred. Best wishes, the Norbury Fitness and Wellbeing Team
Negative experience: Nothing works in that place no swimming pool, or Jacuzzi no steam room no hot water. Staff 0/10
Hi Ali, thanks for this feedback and our sincere apologies for the service issues experienced earlier this year. The steam room, sauna and pool are now all working to specification. We do regret to advise however that the spa pool is now permanently closed. Any savings from the closure will be reinvested into the club and our community projects. Best wishes, the Norbury Fitness and Wellbeing Team
Negative experience: Close it down, the place is finished. No hot water steam room not working mold in mens showers avoid this place its Game over
Hi Gary, sorry for the service issues earlier this year. Our manager Lee and his service agents have been working hard to fix the backend issues, impacting unscheduled facility closures and we hope you notice a difference on your next visit. Best wishes, the Norbury Fitness and Wellbeing Team
Negative experience: @NuffieldHealth Norbury! Please explain why there’s no hot water in the showers again? Jacuzzi is out of use, pool & steam room, ladies disabled shower-all out of use!!! It’s daylight robbery, you’re taking full membership monthly fees, yet we cannot use the facilities
Hi Maz, thanks for this feedback and our sincere apologies for the service outages you will have experienced earlier this year and the impact this will have had on your visits. All facilities, following remedial work, have now reopened, except for the spa pool, which is now permanently closed. Any savings made from this decision will be reinvested in the club. In the meantime, our apologies once again for the impact these issues had on your club visits. Best wishes, the Norbury Fitness and Wellbeing Team
Positive experience: Almost 2 months I’ve been going to this gym. I’m very happy about it. I don’t use the machines. I like the classes on offer, the pool facilities and changing rooms. Staff and teachers friendly and helpful. No complaints really about anything. I go there 3/4 evenings a week. I feel an improvement in my mental health and I also start to feel good changes physically. I will definitely continue to go.
Hi Teresa, thank you for the positive rating and review, we are very pleased to read of the positive impact your club membership is having. Best wishes, the Norbury Fitness and Wellbeing Team
Negative experience: Other than the staff being nice, the facilities here are sub par. The Jacuzzi is inactive, the changing rooms are small, wet and grubby. The Sauna is more like a changing cubicle. This branch is more like a leisure centre. I didn't use the gym today, so can't comment on that. I definitely would not be coming here to use the spa amenities. Nuffield Bromley is definitely superior in all aspects in my opinion.
Hi Jo, thanks for this feedback and sorry to read your visit did not meet expectations. Your constructive feedback has been noted and shared with our management team. Best wishes, the Norbury Fitness and Wellbeing Team
Fantastic experience: I am very happy with how I was treated today at Norbury nuffield. Zaeem was a great help and answered all the questions I wanted to ask, he was very accommodating and I am so pleased I was greeted by him at the door. Thankyou Zaeem for making my experience good today at Norbury Nuffield :)
Thanks for the excellent rating and review Brooke, we are really pleased to read of the excellent customer service experience with our team. Best wishes, the Norbury Fitness and Wellbeing Team
Negative experience: Cons - Machines breaks and never get fixed, or get a botched job e.g a exercise bike glued to one seat position. Pool and changing rooms are dirty Often no tissues or wipes available Staff are friendly until you have an issue where they become very blunt Nowhere near as good facilities as other branches of Nuffield Increase the price mid way through your contract Pros - Parking
Dear A, thank you for your review and feedback and apologies for the issues experienced that led to this review. Our new manager Lee has been working hard to address the service issues and equipment availability challenges in-club and we hope you have noticed an improvement since this review was uploaded. Best wishes, the Norbury Fitness and Wellbeing Team
Fantastic experience: I was not too sure about joinging because of all the reviews. But I went to check it out the other day and that sold it for me. The gym is really big and have many different classes available, there is plenty of equipment ( some needs to be fixed but this is the same in every gym, sometimes equipment breaks). The swimming pool is big enough for any swimmer and well kept, of course it's not an olimpic one but bear in mind there is only handful of gyms that offer swimming pool. Jacuzzi, steam room and sauna are very nice addition. We love to relax there after tennis game. Oh yes they have 2 tennis courts to use as well. The front desk team as well as customer service are very good. We are always welcomed, and signing up process was very smooth. I work shift patterns (12hrs days and nights) so it is not possible to be there every day. But it is much better then other gyms we have used. People are complaining "oh it is not 24/7, it is outdated, it is packed". Loads of gyms are packed, the interior is not the most important thing as long as you can exercise. I'm not going there to admire the interior. I would recommend for anyone who wants to join. It is a good price for what you are getting, and believe me if I can fit time between my schedule to be here 3-4 times a week, anyone can.
Negative experience: £50 a month for probably the worst gym I have ever seen. Been a member for the last 7x months and machines still not fixed / faulty after all that time - really starting to get annoying. It's just not good enough for the money they charge!
Dear Anon, thanks for taking the time to provide this feedback. We have been working hard with our service engineer, to improve equipment availability and we hope that you have noticed a difference, in recent months. Our apologies for the impact any equipment faults have had on your visits. Best wishes, the Norbury Fitness and Wellbeing Team
Negative experience: AVOID!!!! Customer care at Nuffield is non existent. After my Nan broke her hip 2 and a half weeks ago we've been trying to get in contact with Nuffield about freezing her membership. After trying to get in contact a number of times with no success we visited the gym to do it in person, the first time we done this we was told to get in contact online but after no response I went back to be told there is nothing they can do. After being a member of Nuffield for 15 years and paying her membership annually we are disgusted that 'there's nothing we can do' Every member of our family has been a member of Nuffield at some point but this has shown they obvious don't care about the customers and only want the money
Fantastic experience: Outstanding gym. Excellent customer services. Friendly and welcoming staff. Great choice of classes.
Hi Valerie, thank your very much for the positive review and rating. Your feedback is very much appreciated. Best wishes, the Norbury Fitness and Wellbeing Team
Fantastic experience: i go heer so my papa cant discipline me anymore
Positive experience: Pros: - The gyms kept clean. - Good that there’s a sauna/steam room facilities (probably the only thing warranting the high monthly price). - Convenient location for me. Cons: - Its basically a gym for retired people… opening hours are not suitable for productive/working people. Doesn’t work well if you have a family too, as I’d ideally go early enough to be back in time to get the kids ready for school or late enough to go once they’re in bed - here, you do not have that option; gym opens at 6:30am and closes at 10pm (but they’ll deny you entry from 9pm). Gym opens at 8am on bank holidays. Fine if you no longer have to work, or you’re not serious about the gym (prefect if you’re just looking for a very casual relationship with the gym, and you want to pay a lot of money for the pleasure) - For the price, you’d expect it to be 24hr… once you realise how much you’re affected by the opening time limitations it’s too late, coz the contracts are 12 months! - Between 5-7pm (peak times), it’s way too busy to get a machine to workout. - More often than not there’s a broken machine, which takes months to fix (and you’re paying a lot of money for the inconvenience) I’ve been a member of pretty much every gym you could think of. Signed up to this one due to its convenient location (close to home). Definitely regret signing up for the 12 month contract. I’d say, if you’re retired or unemployed with money to burn, this place is ideal. If you’re not, take my advice and go elsewhere.
Hi Sam, thank you for taking the time to provide this detailed feedback and we are sorry to read that you were not completely satisfied with your membership. We hope all is well and that we can welcome you back to the club, in the future. Best wishes, the Norbury Fitness and Wellbeing Team
Positive experience: I would rate it higher if they didn't close 30mins earlier then it says on their website and on Google. This is EVERYDAY of the week.
Fantastic experience: Well kept. Good helpful staff
Negative experience: The staff here never answer the phone! No matter what time of day. I have tried phoning 10 times today and can’t get through, when I know it’s not busy! Compare to other Nuffield Branches which pick up in not more than 3 dial tones... not impressed
Negative experience: Unprofessional unfriendly unhelpful team at the front desk- due to this encounter I will not be taking a membership with this gym. Team are more interested in there mobile phones than engaging with the public & customers.
Negative experience: THIS GYM IS AGAINST FAMILIES USING THE POOL BEFORE 3PM, THIS IS NOT A GOOD IDEA KIDS NEED TO SWIM BEFORE THIS TIME. MANAGEMENT WHO MADE THIS POLICY COULD'NT RUN A CORNER SHOP.
Positive experience: Staff are nice but the womens showers are awful really dirty and all the taps are broken meaning you can't change the temperature of the water.
Fantastic experience: A very nice place to work out. It is not only a GYM but I feel a sense of community here, we can work out, chat and feel good! Not only work out but also swim, and swim with the children. All round it is a lovely Health Club! Bare in mind it is Not a GYM it is a Health Club! People who gave 1 star obviously do not understand the concept of what a gym and what health club is! However Norbury is more suited for family and mature people.
Negative experience: I first went to this gym when it was VActive im talking about 14 years ago. As I have moved back into the area I thought let me check out the gym with the intention of joining. I was surprised seeing the gym as it has not changed a single bit in 14 years same old equipment, broken weights (dirty as it used to be) with no changes at all. I wont advise anyone paying £60 you might asset join the coliers wood branch as its up to date
Negative experience: Everytime they “renovate” this gym they somehow make it worse. The new trainers have bad attitudes, basic equipment like squat pads and weight belts have been removed (and they charge £60 a month) and equipment like the benches have been replaced with worse versions. Disappointed at the state of the gym after coming back from uni after a few months.
Negative experience: My locker was broken into and someone stole all my belongings from locked gym locker. Every week someone losses thier belongings in the gym. Gym staff told me 5 men were allowed that day into the gym without proper id checks. Now gyms says they are not responsible. It is gyms responsibility to provide theft proof lockers and dont allow anyone without proper id checks.terrible experiance and unhelpful rude staff
Hi Saqib, we are sorry about this recent incident. As per guidelines, all non-members into the club need to have valid ID in order to enter, which is copied and then stored locally. There is no such device as a theft proof locker unfortunately, which is why we have warning signs in the changing rooms, advising of the risks. We recommend all members use a strong, reinforced lock when they stow their valuables to further minimise risk of theft. With regards, The Norbury Fitness and Wellbeing Team
Positive experience: Great new equiptment. just need a tricep machine. Small community type gym.
Fantastic experience: At the moment this is the best gym in SW16. It is clean, proper, people respect the rules and staff is helpful. I love it!
Negative experience: Terrible dirty place, people shaving in the toilets and airs everywhere, no toilets paper, people use jacuzzi and chairs without shower......Someone with top tank the one perforated using the gym machines leave all sweat.....a jump in the Jurassic times.....don't suggest!
Negative experience: Really outdated equipment, very small and shallow swimming pool. The price of £59 they are charging does not correlate with the services/equipment they provide. Free weight area is the size of 50 sqft. max. Cable machines are not oiled, some weights do not have labels, cardio equipment like elliptical machine are either broken, squeaking or are about to break. Perfect gym for retired people who are not going to use much anyways . Ample parking space, football pitch, basketball and tennis area - latter not much in use anyways in winter. My advice would be to expand the centre to allow for a variety of machines because this gym is neither old school with ample of space for free weights nor have decent if any, varieties of machines for different muscle groups compared to other gyms being much more advance. In conclusion, just go to Streatham leisure centre as it is cheaper but more advnace or Canons Leisure Centre because at least you pay the price for what it is worth and add a few more to get a personal trainer.
Negative experience: its really sad ive been there as a guest the changing rooms at the back where there is changing rooms the floors are flithy, there is a cleaner she only seems to clean the mirrors, my white socks went grey in one minutes, a very poor level of hygiene. check what your cleaners are doing nothing!
Negative experience: Staff are not always helpful. Gym equipment does not correlate with the cost of membership. Although the gym classes are varied they often start and/or finish late, on three occasions I have turned up to a cancelled class due to no communication from the gym. The gym has such great potential, needs new management.
Positive experience: Excellent customer service and very good parking facility. The gym is fine and kept clean.
Positive experience: Having been a member for almost a month now, I would say that although it is not the best gym I've ever been to, it is not the worst. Considering the swimming pool, saunas, jacuzzi and gym classed, there is more than enough to get the most out of ones membership. There is a very disappointing number of spin bikes available for classes which is annoying as it is a popular class. Overall the classes are good, the changing facilities are adequate and there is a fair bit of equipment. I really considered the reviews before joining, but with realistic expectations, it is not an awful gym.
Positive experience: I’ve noticed with a lot of people’s reviews they’re talking about switching to a cheaper gym with better equipment. The simple fact is, cheaper gyms don’t have pools, saunas and steam rooms. This is the only relatively local gym to the area providing the full range. Staff are very helpful and it’s never too busy (I go during the day, not sure about the evening). The gym could have some more equipment, and the equipment is on the older side, but it works, which is all that matters.
Negative experience: Went twice for taster sessions and was very shocked by how dirty it was. Much equipment was broken or missing. For a well known brand it’s disgusting how they’ve let this place deteriorate. The swimming pool too was filthy. The gym itself is also surprisingly small. Not sure how they think they can get away without a refurb and still charge so much money. DON’T go.
Fantastic experience: Staff and instructors are always helpful, good weights area and pool facility if you want to just want to get on with your training, without the thrills of the bigger Nuffield in Purley Way.
Negative experience: On a positive note, the classes are excellent and there is a good camaraderie amongst fellow members (hence 2 stars). On the downside, this is perhaps the most poorly managed institution I know of. Management and certain front desk staff are rude in the extreme. Gym equipment is often broken and doesn't get fixed. The facilities are often filthy (one guy cleaning who does his best, but one person can only do so much). Cracked tiles in the showers. Cold water in the showers for almost a fortnight. Sauna not working for almost a fortnight. Jacuzzi regularly out of action. Swimming pool was out of action last year for over a month because a kid was sick - how long does it take to clean a pool? I could go on. They've just introduced a 'parking eye' camera and we have been fined 3 times for parking in the gym (no one told us we needed to input our number plates into the machine at the front desk - we were out of the Country for July and August). We've since received threats to pay £360 in all for parking outside the gym! My wife complained 3 times and we were told by receptionists to 'ignore it'. We were then told by the company who run this scam we faced legal action so my wife took the letters in again and were told they would be handed to the manager. They weren't. We've just had a letter telling us we're going to be taken to County Court and will have a CCJ registered in our name if we do not pay. I went to complain to the duty manager (6/10/2018 - 5.45 pm) and was dealt with with EXTREME rudeness. When a second receptionist came out and asked if he was alright he sighed, cushed his teeth, looked up to heaven and then nodded towards me (I was there for God's sake). Having spoken to countless people in the sauna and changing room about this it appears that a significant percentage had faced the same problems and were on the verge of quitting in light of this. People have had enough. On my way out (8pm) I went to raise this point with the receptionist and had a robotic 'have a good evening sir; have a good evening sir; have a good evening sir (about 10 times in all)' at which point I lost my temper, told them what a disgrace their attitude was and how badly this place was managed. I have 5 members of my family there (have done for over 20 years - we only stay because of the classes) and we will ALL quit if they don't sort this out and get the parking charges revoked. I have since spoken to about 20 further gym members who will be doing the same thing. Message is getting around. There isn't a shortage of gyms in the area. Nuffield need to understand that they are about to have an uprising on their hands. There's already a WhatsApp group that is gaining considerable momentum in light of the poor quality of management and service they are providing and someone from central office needs to get this sorted. I will be posting this review up on several sites as I've had enough.
Negative experience: The swimming pool never works. The ventilation is rubbish. So overpriced for such a small place. Moved to ‘the gym’ and pay a 1/4 of what I was paying and it’s so much better. The only difference is there’s no swimming pool but that was never bloody working at Nuffield anyway. Don’t waste your money
Negative experience: Very old basic spin bikes these need updating urgently.
Negative experience: can't give less then that
Negative experience: I like the gym and am regular . However, lighting issue for months. Virtual darkness to get to car park. Potholes so be careful. Advise to carry powerful torch until lighting fixed. Has been the same for months. It appears the management are ignoring serious issues.
Good afternoon Sailesh, Thank you for your feedback and review on Google. I would like to personally apologise for the issues we have had with the surface of the car park, this remains a priority for the club to resolve. Unfortunately there have been delays with our 3rd party supplier in obtaining a date for works to commence. We do hope to have this resolved in the coming weeks and would like to thank you for your continued patience whilst we look to rectify this issue for our members. With kind regards, Ben Nuffield Health customer experience team
Negative experience: The absolute worst gym I have ever been to. The gym closes a full thirty minutes before the posted closing time, and the staff who close (particularly the gentleman on Sunday evenings) are positively Nazi-like about kicking members out of the gym. I’ve complained about this via email, but still haven’t heard anything from management. Based on how rude most of the front desk staff is, I’m honestly not surprised about this lack of communication. But, in case they check these comments: There’s an INCREDIBLY easy solution to this problem. Just post the closing time for one half hour earlier. That’s it. No more confused and pissed off members. Or, stay open until you say you’re going to. I cannot fathom why this is an issue. It’s such an unbelievably ridiculous way to conduct business. I’m joining Virgin Active in a matter of weeks once I move. I’m literally counting the days. Avoid this gym at all costs, prospective members.
Dear Jacquelyn, Thank you for your review. I am very sorry to hear of these poor customer service experiences. I will share your suggestion over opening times with the club manager directly. Whilst the times on the website state when the gym floor and changing room closes, the team should have the ability to provide this message in a polite and consistent fashion. Similarly, the front of house staff are the first people that our members come into contact with, therefore I will make sure this feedback is also shared with the FOH team lead. I would like to thank you for your custom and patronage of our gyms and would like to again apologise for any impact these experiences have had on your view of Nuffield Health. If you have any further feedback, please do not hesitate to share this by e-mailing: [email protected] With regards, Ben Nuffield Health customer experience team
Negative experience: Had a most disgusting experience here yesterday, nearly swallowed a rotten plaster floating in the pool.Today was told not to stand in the swimming pool by the most obnoxious poolside attentant. Then was told to go elsewhere if I didn't like it.Belive this was a manageress as she cancelled my membership for me.Must thank her as I will take her advice and go somewhere where I am treated with respect.Shame because the other staff are always friendly and courteous.
