Negative experience: I asked the lady in the reception for a towel yesterday and the way she looked at me I thought she was gonna murder me. Considering how dirty the gym is you really cannot afford having rude staff.

Negative experience: You are told you get free wifi and it never works. The staff in reception are very unfriendly, unhelpful and don’t seem to be trained on anything. Everytime I ask a question they can’t answer it, they look clueless about even basic questions. Very poor managment and staff

Positive experience: This gym is very convenient for me and hence why I will continue to train here. However the equipment is limited. For example, no glute building machines, no hack squat, no pendulum squat, not enough small free weights or plates. I feel that Nuffield is not investing money in improving the facilities. This is shortsighted as reading the reviews, lots of people end up leaving.

Negative experience: I was a member a year ago, it was meh - I am back now and oh my - this may as well be a dump. I have never seen such a dirty changing room, it’s mouldy and rusty everywhere. The sauna and swim shorts dryer have been broken for two weeks. The showers somehow stopped working today and could only get a few drop of cold water. I have never seen a gym in a state like this… any low-cost gym is much better than this Nuffield!

Fantastic experience: My two kids have had swimming lessons here for the past 2 years and I am amazed at how well they have come on. Both confidently swimming since 3 years old and have absolutely loved the teachers. The lessons are the highlight of their weekend and they will miss them dearly. We are leaving due to moving out the area.

Negative experience: Terrible gym. Dirty and filthy in many areas. Hair shavings often found in the sinks. Little black worms in the shower near the drain (larvae of drain flies). Cold jacuzzi. Many machines broken for extended periods. General manager is rude and dismissive. I don't understand why the management have stopped caring. They need to be sacked for their incompetence and new managers need to take over. Membership prices continue to rise, but quality goes down. Seriously considering leaving. Fed up with dirty gym and rude ignorant general manager. Will update this review with some photos of the filth for proof. And the disgusting worms in the showers! Do not recommend this place. Negative experience: The staff at Nuffield Health Wandsworth were friendly and helpful, but the cleanliness of the changing rooms and toilets was a serious issue. One toilet had a leak, another had urine on the floor, and there were towels scattered everywhere. Judging by other reviews, cleanliness seems to be a recurring problem. The management should address this by holding a meeting with staff and cleaners to go over these concerns and ensure higher standards of hygiene

Negative experience: The gym floor and equipment themselves are decent. The sauna, steam and pool are good. However: 1. The men’s showers are not up to standard hygiene wise 2. Men trimming their beards over the sinks and then not cleaning up after themselves? Strange. 3. The men’s urinals need cleaned at least once a day, not once a week (by the looks of it). Disgusting and smells. 4. The men’s toilets are sometimes in a terrible state. 5. There are a very small minority of men in the gym who communicate by shouting at eachother on the gym floor and in the changing rooms? Strange behaviour. 6. The cleaner once drenched the men’s changing room floors with water & floor cleaner about 45 mins before closing. Meaning we had to take our belongings out of the locker and then get changed on the other side of the room. Strange. Ever since Covid it has completely gone downhill on the cleanliness side. Whoever is managing the place isn’t quite good enough.

Negative experience: The gym is still absolutely filthy. I can see the number of messages on here about this but nothing has changed. What are the management actually going to do about this rather than apologising and doing nothing! There are never enough mats for classes. If there are 2 yoga classes going on I recommend you bring your own mat! There are not enough balls, weights, blocks for the number of people that can book a class. I think this is 22 or 24 not sure but there are probably only 12 balls, blocks etc. On the plus side the gym teachers are great which is why I’m still a member. It’s the running of the place that is letting it down.

Positive experience: It’s an ok gym, could be better but not as bad as reviews suggest. First the positives. The staff are lovely and every interaction I’ve had with them has been a good one. The classes are excellent and I like the pool and spa facilities. Now the not so good. The gym is dirty in places. Although there’s a cleaning team and they do actively clean, the place could do with a deep clean to get the hard to reach places, the dirt trapped in corners etc. That said, the gym goers themselves could be more respectful of the space and leave the cleaning team with less to do. Pick up your rubbish, put towels in bins, leave the space tidy. Showers are missing lotion dispensers, some tiles are cracked or missing, some showers don’t function and are taped off. The place could do with either a light refurb or some regular maintenance. You can see some repairs have been done but they’re not always quality repairs. The sanarium is missing a temperature and a humidity gauge and has been for some weeks/months. It’s also a little dark and could do with a deep clean unlike the recently refurbished sauna. I’d also like to see a zero tolerance policy to poor behaviour. I’ve witnessed: - a woman shaving her legs in the sauna - a woman applying conditioners and moisturisers in the steam room - a man using an exfoliating brush in the steam room and jumping into the jacuzzi without a shower - people going straight from sweating in the sauna and steam room into the jacuzzi without a shower - people doing sit-ups, press ups etc. in the steam room. Why?? - the oil crew, the people who apply their own lemongrass or olbas oil to the steamer - grown men chasing each other around the fountain in the jacuzzi like some kind of childish game, all while shouting at each other disturbing the peace - the men who shout at each other in the changing rooms like they’re in the pub That’s on the people who use the gym, though the staff could work harder to crack down on anti social behaviour. There are signs in place but it needs enforcing when it’s seen or reported.

Negative experience: Something is always broken ( sauna, steam room etc.), rude staff ( I was told to leave during my Boditrax scan halfway through when it takes 1 min max to complete by a rude employee who claimed the gym was closed when the gym was still open for another 5 mins!), less classes than virgin, less hygienic than virgin ( none of the equipment gets wiped down) and prices constantly going up

Negative experience: Have just cancelled my membership. Here's why: 1. The gym is generally filthy. I wear glasses so the fact I can tell even when they're off says something. 2. Equipment is poorly maintained and regularly out of service, in many cases for up to half a year. Functional equipment is just that. Functional. Rubber grips dangling off the assisted pull-up machine, broken footholds for the exercise bikes, missing attachments on the treadmills, stretching machines warped out of shape and so on. Even the blessed spa is crumbling, as you wade across it you can feel pebbles broken off and never cleaned and several of the jets are barely functional while a few others don't work at all. 3. Facilities are also regularly unavailable. Not because they're occupied, but because they're taped off waiting for repairs. 4. There are rarely enough towels. And when you do get one, it isn't exactly uncommon for it to have a skidmark. Considering this is supposed to be a "premium" gym, you'd expect there to be enough towels for two to a customer. The reality is that you can instead expect regular "we're out of towels, please bring your own" text messages. 5. Towel and trash bins often overflow in changing rooms. As do the urinals. And the sinks (when they aren't taped off). 6. For all this, the gym is now insisting we pay even more money for the pleasure of risking athletes foot and using faulty machines. 7. The couple times I've talked to a manager felt like I was cattle being processed, not a customer with a query like, "My mom wants to try this place out, how would I arrange a trial day?" or "Someone dropped glass in the changing rooms, there are shards everywhere, when can we expect that cleaned up?" Why I stayed so long: 1. The staff are nice and the personal trainers are superbly friendly. Big shout-out to Gregor, I hope my next gym has someone as awesome as you! 2. I LOVE the sauna and steam room (when they're functional) maybe I'll use the money saved from quitting this extortionate place to put one up in the yard. Note to the manager: Your responses to the tidal wave of negative reviews are laughable. They're just canned platitudes you don't action. You love pointing out when people aren't members as if guests don't visit and external clubs don't also use your gym. You jump on name discrepancies to prove this as if we don't live in a world where people regularly use different names online to their passport to be more hireable or just because. One only has to read a handful of your near identical replies to see that the problem lies with you more than it does anyone else. You like to stick your head in the sand, sidestep blame and go on the offensive. After reading your responses to negative reviews, my decision was made. Nothing will change because you won't

Negative experience: Very cold gym, looks like management don't care about the temperature and comfort of their members. Kids running around, it's like a Creche. Soap and conditioner dispenser is never filled up in the showers. Managers are defensive and quite rude actually when you raise a complaint, especially one female manager in particular. They're either highly incompetent or just despise their members. The below fake 5 Star reviews are most certainly shills, this 'premium' gym is a true disaster

Negative experience: I used to work at this Nuffield (operative work ‘used to work’) and the negative 1 star reviews do not surprise me, unfortunately. The management are awful and treat the staff like excrement, as a result they have a high turnover of staff, many left including myself. Couldn’t stand being treated like dirt anymore. Nuffield seems to think only their members are allowed to leave reviews, this is NOT true. Anyone who had had an interaction with Nuffield can leave a review, check Google policy for clarification. Don’t let whoever Nuffield representative who is replying to these reviews put you off. After I read these reviews myself it gave me the courage to write my own former employee review. This place is badly run, has bullish managers and is dirty and filthy. I do not recommend working here!

Positive experience: A few months ago i posted a review about this club and gave it a 1 star due to some persistant issues, specifically; > filthy showers > regularly no shower jel > broken equipment - minor issues easy to rectify but not bothering > staff friendly, but not taking action to fix issues Really happy to say it appears to have improved A LOT. Not sure which manager was on duty this morning, but she appeared much more 'on it' and happy to see members. Hopefully things continue to improve.

Negative experience: UPDATED 2 months later - the club has fixed mentioned items. Thank you for sorting! Really like this place but in the past year or so the maintenance levels have collapsed. So many machines don’t work properly and the staff (or perhaps manager) either don’t care, or head office won’t allocate money to general maintenance - personally I believe the manager is at fault. As an example, this bike has been missing a foot strap for about a year. I’ve reported it about 10 times and I know other members have. It’s £35 to fix (see photo) but they just cant be bothered to sort it. The next door machine the bearings are shot so you it’s hard to use. But there’s countless more examples. A real shame and unacceptable given the fees. I use another Nuffield where EVERYTHING works well, so can only deduce the manager at Wandsworth is ultimately responsible and is therefore utterly useless. Hopefully this review encourages him/her to do their job better. Review left VERY reluctantly as I do think the bulk of the staff are decent at their jobs and the facilities are on the whole decent. A massive shame this club is failing at the bare minimum.

Negative experience: The staff are very nice and the gym used to be amazing; I’ve been a member for around 6 years. However, standards have dropped massively. They don’t seem to clean the gym at all. The changing rooms are always filthy, full of hair, and they never fill up the shampoo, conditioner and hand soap! It’s such a shame that Nuffield has dropped their standards like this!

Negative experience: HEALTH AND SAFETY HAZARD - AVOID!! The men’s changing room are a disgrace - no hand wash for 3 days running, no body wash or shampoo for 3 days, most showers filled with old cloths, used plasters etc. Lockers full of dirt and rubbish. Have flagged to their local and central team many times over the past year. Management told me that the showers are not cleaned every day as they can’t find the staff (!). On the gym floor you are lucky to find an available machine that works, let alone not sticky and dirty. Meanwhile they increase your membership price!

Negative experience: I joined a monthly rolling contract and was told if I give notice before 15th of the month I can cancel the same month. I gave notice on 2nd of Aug and was told I needed to give 30 days notice i.e. 2 days late. I therefore must stay with the gym for 2 months (minus 2 days to leave). Clearly they don't value customer care at management level. All the other staff I spoke to about this across both Wandsworth gyms totally understand my situation and wanted to help and are brilliant. But even after escalating to 2 managers across the 2 wandsworth gyms and then the central multi site customer experience manager Martin McGath, I was not able to leave. Especially since I brought on a 12m contract via introducing a friend and hired their PT services for 1 month spending £250 extra. I just dont get on with gym machines and wanted to join a different type of gym for my health, thats all. But alas, I will begrudgingly use the gym for another 2 months, whilst paying for the new gym I'm excited to use. Large companies like Nuffield see you as a number, with no ability to behave like a human... computer says no. They claim fairness to other members, pfft, who out there is upset that I wanted a gesture of good will to look past the 2 days late notice? If anything charge me for 2 days! Anyway I look forward to moving to a small local independent gym where my experience will be truly valued. I suggest you do the same if you care about the direction of our societal norms and behaviors. I hope Nuffield is happy they squeezed a little monthly fee out of me over the potential for a future relationship with me. But I am just 1 number to them. Fantastic experience: No idea why there’s so many bad reviews for this gym! I trialled a range of gyms in Clapham and Battersea when I moved to the area a year ago, including the other Nuffields, Virgin, Fitness First, a number of leisure centres and this one was by far the best - particularly for the pool. If you’re wanting somewhere with a relaxed atmosphere, good range of equipment and a great pool area (with a large stream room and sauna), decent changing rooms with good showers, then I would definitely recommend. The biggest pro is the huge jacuzzi pool - super relaxing!

Negative experience: Back to David Lloyds with me. I shouldn’t have bothered giving this place a go. David Lloyds gymnasium is same high price but they are truly a high spec gymnasium.

Negative experience: Sad to write this, but this gym has really deteriorated recently. The change of management last year has had a dire effect on this place and I won't be coming back. Not sure if this is how all Nuffields are run, but it's left a stain on the whole chain from my perspective.

Negative experience: I've since found out that the management drove out the Muay Thai Kickboxing club! No more kickboxing classes. Very unprofessional managers, I'd go as far as saying they're malicious. I certainly won't be returning. Plenty better gyms elsewhere [Edit] Found the emails. What absolutely horrible management. Negative experience: Having read through the Nuffield emails as suggested below, I have to confirm and agree with all the Negative comments here unfortunately. I was a long time member and saw the gym degrade when new management took over, broken machines, dirty facilities, grimey shower and toilets. The semi threatening emails how they treat their customers is just another nail in the coffin. I've cancelled my membership, won't be returning

Negative experience: Unfortunately had to cancel my membership after many years at this Nuffield. Gym has become increasingly overcrowded and busy at most peak times in mornings and evenings with many machines out of order making this problem worse. The cleanliness of the changing rooms/shower facilities has dropped off significantly in recent months making the whole experience unappealing. You can get better value for your money at other clubs in the area, which is a shame as if the club had a bit of a revamp it has the ability to be much better.

Negative experience: Nuffield Gym in Wandsworth has been a huge disappointment. The facility is consistently dirty, and the locker rooms are grimy. The sauna has been broken for weeks with no signs of repair, which is unacceptable for the price they charge. Additionally, many of the machines are often out of order, making it difficult to get a proper workout. I expected much better from a gym of this reputation and price point. Avoid this place if you can.

Negative experience: To the previous reviewers here wondering what happened to the Muay Thai class/club that operated out of this Nuffield, they were driven out by the management unfortunately over a series of dramas and emails that Nuffield manager created! The Muay Thai club has since made the Nuffield emails public (just do some googling and you'll find it online). Absolutely disgusted when I read it. Negative experience: Photo speaks for itself. All 5 step machines are permanently broken. Notices on them saying they are broken. 4/5 have been like this for about half a year. The final working one seized up recently. Any other normally functioning business = replace them. The short term small spend in the scheme of things on new machines in order to keep members happy and staying with the gym long term is nothing. Instead. Put these stupid notices up, and leave all 5 machines taking up a huge space on the gym floor festering away for months on end. Can they not see how absolutely ridiculous this looks and unacceptable to members paying close to £100 a month this is? These were hugely popular machines. A key piece of cardio equipment. It’s absolutely disgraceful how they have let things slide to this degree. SORT IT OUT

Negative experience: Only a couple of weeks after putting my membership up the gym was closed for a week for roof works to the shopping centre. Then we are told there will be an indefinite period over the Summer without full aircon. It is too hot. Fans appeared then disappeared, apparently they have to be shared between the gym floor and class studios. Not enough fans for both. Currently, both fans are in use in one studio which still has the door open for ventilation. There are 5 stairclimbers, 4 are out of action, 3 have been broken for over a year. Queues to use them with some members spending an hour on the one still working. The spa pool is cold, the sauna was closed yesterday and perhaps still is, the swimsuit dryer is broken and I have to strip bars of weights left on them, hunt the gym for equipment left lying around.

Positive experience: At first I was skeptical about joining this gym because of the Google Ratings - this is understandable because of the high prices. However, since joining in March (2024), I have been impressed with the services or cleanliness of the gym. The facilities are good although when it gets busy it can be a little distracting. Recently the sauna bench broke so it won't be a while till it gets replaced but I am hoping they can fix this quickly! Aside that, for what I am paying, I am comfortable being with this gym.

Negative experience: This club went downhill so bad after nearly 15 years of being at this gym, the machines are always broken. The stair machines were broken for months and the equipment is outdated. The price increase is a joke aswell. Negative experience: I can see the previous review around the drop in standards I can not agree more, despite me raising several times with the team no action has been taken, I have been coming here for 5 years and just so disgusted at the state of the gym, and the lack of soap etc. The build up of grime and lime scale is not just from one or two days but months and months of neglection. The gym needs closing for a deep deep clean. On top of this the staff while polite and friendly seem to not be worried about poor behaviour from other members or the hygiene issue.

Positive experience: I can’t believe after being a member at Nuffield Health for 10 years I am writing this review and leaving the gym that I once loved soo much and referred soo many of my friends & family. The issues I've observed and experienced at the gym are as follows: 1. Cleanliness and Hygiene: Since the pandemic, it appears that there is a significant reduction in cleaning staff presence, particularly in the men's changing room. It seems that cleaning efforts have been scaled back, especially during daytime hours. The presence of small water flies in the showers is not only unhygienic but also uncomfortable for members. Furthermore, broken facilities (please see attachment) are left unaddressed for weeks, posing potential hazards. 2. Amenities Maintenance: The provision of basic amenities has become inconsistent. Soap dispensers are often empty for days, which was not the case before. This reflects poorly on the overall gym experience. 3. Cleanliness and Safety: In the stretching area near the pull-up machines, there are noticeable spiderwebs (please see attachment). This not only affects the ambiance but also makes members feel uncomfortable and raises questions about the overall hygiene and maintenance of the gym. The gym is falling apart in various areas which also puts us a safety risk. 4. Stock Levels: The drinks and snack options in the gym are frequently not stocked, and the fridge is often found empty. This is disappointing as access to refreshments is important for members during and after their workouts. 5. Staff: It appears that lifeguards are not consistently present on the premises. The safety of members should be a top priority, and the current situation is raising concerns about the well-being of gym-goers. The majority of the staffs attitude (especially the senior staff) is very poor and not hospitable nor welcoming as they use to be, I don’t blame the front of desk I blame their superiors for their poor training. 6. Security: A particularly distressing incident involved a break-in at the gym where my wife's locker was tampered with, and her belongings were taken. The fact that this matter has not been properly addressed and resolved is deeply concerning and reflects negatively on the security protocols in place. I have noticed that since Nuffield Health took over from Virgin, not only have standards declined, but the monthly membership fees have also increased. This raises questions about the value we, as loyal members, are receiving in exchange for our memberships. I believe Nuffield Health can do better, if they actually want to and it’s sad the only good feature left at the gym is the jacuzzi and the two spacious saunas.

Fantastic experience: I was looking at some reviews in the last couple of weeks, I must admit I do desagree. The gym is struggling, but they do their best. I really enjoy my freestyle dance class with Michael every Saturday. I lost some weight and its give you lots of positive energy. Nuffield needs more classes like that to get more members and more paying customers. Thank you very much for all reception staff, always with the smile and happy to help. Positive experience: It’s not a terrible gym, but very expensive for the quality. It was a lot better in 2022, I believe ownership has since changed. Now there are multiple broken machines that remain broken for months. A significant portion of stationary bikes, stair climbers and other cardio equipment and strength equipment have been out of service for months. This makes a difference when it gets busy which it regularly does in the evenings. Half of the water fountains are malfunctioning or fully out of service. Gym staff are a mixed bag, some are ambivalent, some are very friendly (shoutout to the tall Aussie guy, can’t recall his name but really approachable and helpful dude), and some are a bit rude. The hours are good and they have some good amenities (sauna, hot tub, pool, steam room, soap and conditioner in showers usually well stocked, 1 gym towel per visit, selection of classes) but for £100 a month, I’d probably switch gyms for another company if I wasn’t personally planning to leave London in 2 months. £100 is exorbitantly expensive for what you get, even in a city like London, when comparing to other local gyms at a similar price point.

Negative experience: I feel sad to be sharing this review given how long I’ve been a member at Nuffield Southside. I joined over two years ago at a big time of change in my life dealing with mental health challenges and lost a lot of weight and improved my fitness here (around 8 stone) Recently, the list of issues has grown and peaked today when I was greeted at reception with a ‘your membership is ended’ Having been a member for so long this impersonal and sudden ‘welcome’ actually hurt. It’s hard enough for some to step food in a gym and as a MASSIVE company with fitness centres and hospitals across the country this sort of welcome is extremely discouraging. I am always so friendly and chatty :( The steam room is always broken now with long repair times and although the pool is nice it is often busier now than before (not the centres fault just a challenge) for the price of membership and no communication beyond the signs at reception that sit unchanged for weeks it’s not good enough and value for money plummets. I have to personally thank Carmelina for welcoming me to the gym floor and giving me PT. She is excellent and really supportive. Also Charlotte is always friendly and although I never trained with her always had a big smile! Seeing the way they encouraged others was a breath of fresh air. They are the examples of how good this gym could be. Today, following my ‘ended membership’ I was told all of the managers were in meetings and to come back. Sadly, this time, it’s the last straw and I won’t be coming back. If this is the treatment at a gym I wouldn’t like to see what Nuffield hospitals are like…

Negative experience: This gym has sadly turned into a complete shambles. When it used to be Virgin owned it was buzzing, thriving. The creche was constantly in demand, open every day for long hours, run by amazing team. Now it’s barely ever open. You never know which days as it changes continuously. Under staffed. Under loved. So parents can’t rely on it thus can’t often work out. Swimming lessons: cancelled week after week. Pool closures. But do they warn you or send a text or call you? NO!! So we make lengthy, wasted journeys mucking up our entire day. Machines on gym floor constantly broken. Not fixed or replaced for ages. Clumps of dust, hairs, plasters, rubbish lying around weight machines and don’t move/ get cleared away for months. It’s dismal. It’s a shadow of what it used to be. It’s a total rip off. Join another chain and don’t come here.

Fantastic experience: Amazing customer service - Caroline was so helpful and thoughtful. She helped organise my partner and I's trial pass and showed us round the gym. Negative experience: Overview: For the price, I’d switch to Virgin or David Lloyds. Even budget gyms like Pure Gym/ Better Gym have better facilities and customer service. Facilities: for months on end, the pool/sauna/towel facilities were down. The classes are almost always fully booked and the fees are not proportionate to the state of the facilities. The membership cards and locker system are very dated (padlocks). Value: The gym is not worth the money. The classes aren’t varied enough and the workout area is pretty much in a basement. Not ideal if you like working out in open inviting spaces. The machines aren’t very varied either. Management: The management must be overworked or understaffed because they take a long time to reply and are not consistent. I tried to cancel my membership but was informed that it will lapse at the end of the contract….only to be billed for months afterwards. I asked for an explanation but was met with boilerplate messages and ZERO consideration or empathy. l will be switching back to Virgin after being so badly burned by Nuffield’s poor customer service.

Positive experience: This gym is excellent. The facility is always clean and has a great atmosphere, which is further enhanced by the friendly and helpful staff. However, I regretfully had to discontinue my membership due to the gym's late opening time (6:30 AM). Given that many companies are now requesting employees to return to Central London offices, it would be beneficial if the gym were to open at least an hour earlier, ideally at 5:30 AM.

Negative experience: EDIT: over the last few weeks the shower facilities are constantly dirty. I go 3/4 times a week and they’re barely cleaned. No shampoo in any of the shower dispensers last visit. The saving grace is the staff are friendly but the place is falling apart. I’m very close to cancelling my membership and finding a gym that’s clean at the least. There is a good range of machines and plenty of space to stretch and work out. The sauna and steam room are great! The downside is the gym really needs a deep clean and a bit of a revamp. There is a lot of dirt/cobwebs and the changing rooms smell frequently. It wouldn’t take much to really bring this place back to life, making it a positive experience that justifies the membership fee.

Positive experience: Reasonable amount of equipment but cardio machines often left broken for long periods of time. They also closed the spa over winter but there was no reduction in membership for this. The toilets are always grim (in the men’s). They do have towels, and it’s less busy off peak (but very busy at peak times). Class selection isn’t too bad, either. Lots for the gym management to work on to get up to scratch.

Negative experience: ***FURTHER UPDATE Jan 2023: They've agreed that they won't be pursuing any debt collection - Damn it, I was looking forward to a county court day out :( *** ** UPDATE: Despite writing to them with a cancellation notice and copying in customer relations, they had the cheek to send me a letter seeking payment. I then emailed them again… two weeks later, I receive a debt recovery threat. BRING IT ON NUFFIELD!** After being a member for 6 years and before that, being a member with Virgin Active for goodness knows how long... The deterioration of standards across Nuffield's estates, including my 3 regular clubs that I use - Merton, Wandsworth SS and Norbury... Not only have Nuffield, since taking over VA estates: - Gotten rid of several lifeguards across estates (Yes, I understand that it's compliant with HSE guidelines, however, Virgin had lifeguards - and still do in all clubs they still own, so this is inexcusable!) - Gotten rid of regular cleaning - Use female cleaners in male changing rooms at times - Consistently have little water flies all over the shower facilities - Raised prices regularly The final straw that breaks the camels back is the company's decision to CLOSE ALL SPA POOLS FOR AUTUMN AND WINTER! Ridiculous...

Negative experience: Me and my husband joined the Nuffield southside in March this year and firstly it was great but over the last few months the experience has been nothing but terrible to the point we almost stopped using the facilities whatsoever. During summertime there was a constant issue with no towels, but cleanliness of the pool showers and female changing rooms and showers is the worst. After not going for over two months we decided to go this Sunday, to relax - I came out more stressed than before arriving! There were no loo rolls in the toilets, there were used (!!!) feminine pads left in the showers, used towels were piling around the changing room, SPA pool is closed and separated in a really ugly “roadworks” style fencing (we only signed up with Nuffield as we wanted to use pool and spa pool, we barely use gym but members are still paying premium price!) Parents, after kids swim sessions stay for almost an hour occupying all the chairs (in their full attire) so that people who want some rest after sauna session have now nowhere to sit. Kids running around uncontrollably getting into saunas constantly leaving doors open without any parents or staff reaction. Some kids jumping into the pool (after kids swim session was over) and I witnessed one jumping almost on the back of man swing in the lane. I also felt quite uncomfortable with Parents having their phones out in the pool area and then in female showers section which supposedly was not allowed. I wanted to flag the showers hygiene to the reception but the two staff members were busy chatting to each other one standing with their backs to me clearly ignoring my presence so I gave up. I don’t know if the management has changed since March or what the issue is but if this continues I have no interest in paying premium fees for such an experience any longer and I would recommend everyone to think twice before signing up.

Negative experience: We thought we were upgrading from thegym in Colliers Wood to a gym with a great spa facility (spa pool, sauna & steam room)… however what we didn’t realise is that the mens showers are full of these little water flies and worms in the sealant around the edges. Horrible cleanliness. What we have just learnt is that they, along with all the other Nuffield's are now CLOSING their spa pools because of the energy price hike?! Do Nuffield think we are not suffering with the energy price hike too? Why haven’t they dropped the price of the premium membership or offered ANY alternative? There are debates going on in the sauna’s everyday now it seems, the general theme is that they could have turned it off for most of the day and kept it on during the evening times at the very least. Just one way for them to combat is this energy hike is to just TAKE AWAY the spa pool? I don’t know how much longer I can pay for something that wasn’t what I was initially promised that I was getting.

Negative experience: I am currently a member of this gym and used to work for a Virgin Active many years ago when the equipment and design of VA’s looked this way. Stars given for the facilities themselves - quite good despite being an old Virgin Active with the only thing being changed is the name of the sign. The shower and changing facilities are in desperate need of an upgrade. Spa and pool facilities are good but the centre piece in the jacuzzi should be considered to be removed as it’s pointless and a waste of time for those who wish to relax in the bubbles. The reason for only 2 stars being given to this establishment is because of the staff. Mainly reception and PT’s are the reason for this. They’re all rude, ignorant and must believe that this establishment is for their leisure. Every single time I enter or leave the gym not one member of staff has the decency to look up or away from their screen or other members of staff to even say hi or bye in the least. This goes for the managers too, there’s some negative aura in the room when they’re around. There’s only one member of staff that has been noticed by me as being a kind and helpful team player for this place, I believe her name is Nikky and is usually seen on the gym floor. If you want a gym where you don’t want to speak to any staff then this is the one, if however you look for good customer service please stay far away.

Negative experience: I've been a member here since it was Virgin Active and have never had any problems. However, last week was the first time I experienced such rude and patronising behaviour from the supposed manager (Ada and Hayley). They both seem to be on a power trip and enforce strict rules. The team usually at reception are lovely and welcoming. If they are at reception be prepared to face unwelcoming behaviour. I'm a prepaid member and have been from the start, when my membership next expires I will sadly not be returning due to the a our taste they left.

Negative experience: I called prior to my visit to ask to sign up & to be shown around / try the swimming pool first. I spoke with a lady on the phone this morning, who told me that this wouldn’t be an issue, took down my details and told me “to come down at any time this evening.” I went down to the gym this evening and was greeted by a woman on the front desk who rudely told me that it wouldn’t be possible to fit me in for a tour around the gym for 30 mins+ and that I couldn’t use the pool, I could only look at it (?!) Considering I was definitely going to join Nuffield Health and the cold, rude, abrupt manner that I was greeted with (6.30pm - 21st March) was pretty abysmal and enough to put me off joining up.

Fantastic experience: Started going to Nuffield while looking for Muay Thai classes in the area and was really happy to find them offered at Nuffield. The gym is clean and well equipped and the Muay Thai classes are great; Sean is a great instructor and his classes are very accessible and welcoming. Would love more sessions a week. Definitely recommend this gym.

Negative experience: L’espace sauna est agréable , cependant les gens viennent habillés avec de long shorts pour la baignade et pour le Jacuzzi, pas très hygiénique! Les serviettes sont inexistantes depuis le Covid ce qui n’est pas normal . Le personnel pas très arrangeant quand on doit laisser nos vélos Brompton à l’accueil c’est catégorique un non !!! Laissez le dehors ! Un Brompton ? Facilement voler ! Nous venons dans cette salle uniquement une fois par semaine pourtant .., le reste du temps nous allons dans l’autre salle du parc bien mieux gérée . Je n’aime pas cette salle de sport , si il y avait un spa ailleurs nous irions mon mari et moi même ailleurs

Fantastic experience: I rejoined recently now that the pandemic is easing. Even though there are 2 gyms closer to me I prefer using southside. The team are really friendly and it’s more spacious. Alan was super helpful and let me use the facilities whilst I was waiting for the sales team to get back to me. They still have the NHS 40% discount too!

Negative experience: I’m very positive person and I’ve never felt like this. I was very disappointed with this service team. I even felt racism. I have a year membership and explained that I have to leave in October because of my circumstances. They didn't listen and only responded like parrots about my membership status. Also, I'm Asian and just after returning from my home country, when I called, I stuttered a little bit, then the staff gave me a very deep sigh and an irritating answer. They also put my name down as a strange name on the app (even though the name on the contract is clearly well written) and haven't fixed it yet after I complained about it. Wouldn't it hurt that anyone in any country didn't write their name properly? This is judged to be a very impolite act. It was the worst gym I've ever had in England.

Fantastic experience: I recently joined this gym and have been very impressed with how attentive staff have been at keeping me informed about gym updates and offers. One team member, Vetmir, after hearing about my own financial situation accommodated for me and enabled me to join the gym at a later date, keeping all my joining records on file to allow for a smooth admin process when it was best for me to become a member. I am sure this high level of service will be upheld during my membership :)

Negative experience: I never post reviews. However in this instance I feel compelled to do so. I am extremely disappointed/frustrated with the level of customer service at Southside Nuffield. Prior to signing up for the gym over the phone I was misinformed about family swim times and when I actually visited the gym I found the family swim times to be overly restrictive, i.e. swim times with children is very narrow. Competing gyms nearby have a dedicated family lane which makes sense, especially for the cost of membership. I called to cancel my membership during the cooling off period having not used the gym a single time or signing any paperwork. The male individual in sales hung up on me after stating, "Once we have your bank details there's not much you can do." Nice to know.

Positive experience: I have been a member for a while and I think the team has done really well to adapt to the new Covid conditions. Every time I am there the cleaners are not stopping taking care of the floor and the equipment. The staff is always friendly and the facilities including the pool are really nice. Negative experience: Update. Droped from 5 to 2 following a conversation with their reception today about booking swimming classes. Person was wholly unknowledgeable about the service advertised on their site regarding adult swimming instruction and then told me it's busy on the reception and therefore she can't really help me, despite that number being listed for calling up regarding booking lessons.
