Information about Britannia Hotel Stockport
Britannia Hotel Stockport: Opinions
Negative experience: I have to be totally honest, the room was filthy. Beds very uncomfortable. The only good thing was the breakfast that you paid extra for. I'm an easy to please person and hate to give a bad review, I generally only ever leave a good one. When I read other reviews giving higher stars I thought awww people giving bad reviews are just moaners so I booked. This is definitely a one or 0 star hotel. Absolutely filthy
Negative experience: I only went to use the pool facilities. Absolutely filthy, honestly, this place is disgusting. Smells bad, looks bad, I cant understand why no one who works there hasn't noticed? Or has and done nothing? Never again.
Negative experience: No word of a lie I have never seen a hotel and leisure centre in such a state. There is a horrible smell throughout the pool area and they look like they haven't been cleaned in years. Honestly surprising this hotel isn't in special measures.
Positive experience: Really lovely friendly, busy, helpful staff, reasonably priced rooms, the buffet dinner was good value simple food. The dessert range was good. The bar has a good range of reasonably priced drinks. The room was a little run down and a couple of things were broken like the toilet flush and the bathroom didn't lock. The floor was really squeaky and the windows didn't open so it was really warm, but there was a fan provided. Tea and coffee in the room. We were allowed to bring our drinks from the bar up. The bed was comfy. Didnt use the gym and pool but they looked nice. Good spacious free parking and in walking distance of other bars/pubs in Stockport. I liked the fancy old-fashioned lift.
Negative experience: Awful accommodation. Room very small and smelled of cigarette, no towels or soap (waited 1hr to get them) amongst other negatives. Looks great in pictures but not in reality. Checked out rather than stay the night.
Negative experience: I would not recommend this place to anyone. Place is dated, my room was absolutely freezing and manger refused to put the heating on or provide me with a heater. Hotel was dated, felt I was back in the 1980s also filthy, no towels, bed broken. To make matter worse the Manger was rude and unhelpful. Do Not Book this hotel it’s like a dated prison!
Negative experience: I booked a double executive room. This is what I found. Stained and dirty bedding. Moth in the room. Television not working. No WiFi. Signs and smell of drug use in the room. I can't give no star, so 1 star.
Negative experience: We had the disabled room with twin beds there was blood on the corner of the bed sheets there was no spoon to stir your tea and my computer screen is bigger than the TV so all in all not very good first impression won't be staying again.
Negative experience: Room was beyond horrendous. Arrived and wasn’t clean at all, dust covering the headboards and tables. Me and the Mrs both said it can’t be as bad as the reviews say but Omg it is 10x worse it is disgusting, I don’t even want to touch anything it’s disgusting
Negative experience: Britannia Stockport . Looks like a detention centre outside dated rundown care home inside corridors stink like an ash tray and booze. room awful. uncomfortable bed TV didnt work light also all floors creak like crazy . Manual door trade style lift was broken stairs you cant pass have to wait for people to pass . It was cold no heating allowed set on British summer time I was told every complaint was rehearsed answered they have heard it all before . Cheap nasty breakfast budget style food cold beans oily cheap fried eggs . All this was £180for the weekend . Better to sleep in the car and go to McDonald's for breckie. Terrible place .
Positive experience: Rooms comfortable, clean and tidy. Was woken several time due to the noise of other guests walking around in the room above me and from the guests next door talking.
Negative experience: Room very over dated an not clean. Reception staff not friendly. Bar an dining room staff lovely. Young waiter couldn't do enough for you polite an nothing a problem for him. Outside hotel very dirty got all cigarette ends all over an bins full. Car park very gravely an unkept not ideal for elderly people with walking sticks or wheelchairs. No entertainment at all. Very disappointed as it was first holiday since lock down . Sorry to say wouldn't be goin back.
Negative experience: Avoid at all costs if your expecting a nice clean room! Worst experience in a hotel ever! Made me mad enough to leave a 1 star review! I'd leave indepth details but im that mad about the whole experience i cant even be botherd! £120 per night - I wouldnt pay 10p a night to stay there! What a joke!
Negative experience: Very dated, needed cleaned and walls were like paper, we could hear everything in the rooms near us including the floors/ceilings creaking. The staff were all lovely and polite despite the poor quality hotel.
Positive experience: Was told correct information regarding evening meals. Did not offer any help to get the wheelchair ramp, nearly fell out of wheelchair, again no help was offered to get back up. Reception staff were anything but helpful. Bat staff and restaurant staff were brilliant. Food was average but edible. Room 7 seemed not to be of use in a while as room.smelt very musty had to have window open.all the time. This is my 3rd visit, but would only come back if it was the only hotel available.
Negative experience: The cleanliness of this particular hotel was utterly revolting. Everything was dirty, sticky, dusty and stank. Flea bites or bedbugs ate us alive. A complaint process has been started. Do Not Stay Here!!!
Negative experience: Stuffy room, dusty fan, broken tap, blood on towels, escorts working on same floor, fire alarm keeps going off, lack of staff. Absolutely dismal.
Negative experience: Pros - lovely staff, good selection of food Cons - it smells of stale smoke EVERYWHERE. The noise! Walls are paper thin, doors bang all night long, we had a false fire alarm twice at 11:30pm, the beds are very uncomfortable, rooms are maybe wiped over but I wouldnt say cleaned thoroughly. Would absolutely not return.
Negative experience: VILE. I would give no stars if i could. First room wasnt cleaned, second room stunk of smoke, third room stank of smoke had burn holes in curtains and joints and cigarettes end just out of window. Absolutely grim. Settled with a smoke stinking room as I thought it the best I was going to get. Not cheap either over £100 on a Saturday evening
Positive experience: For a budget hotel it was very clean and comfortable. No frills whatsoever but the bed was comfy and the bathroom clean. Couldnt fault it for the price.
Fantastic experience: Staff! Super helpful and professional. Can’t be faulted. “Worst hotel I’ve ever stayed in” some reviewers declare as they flounce off the premises. Well darlings, you have Obviously never stayed at Fawlty Towers amiright? Okay so this place is no spring chicken, and cursed with some very dubious policies - the wifi springs to mind - if you want to crash out doing some Netflix and Chill, you’ll be sat in the comfy chairs by the bar, because there’s precious little signal in your room. At least they thought to decorate the foyer with various passed out blokes in Very Weird poses. Breakfast was excellent with the exception of the cardboard mushrooms. Handling complaints and prickly customers seems to be second nature to the front desk staff, whose patience it has to be said, must be approaching infinite. Character! Is what you get at this place. And that really is a rare commodity.
Negative experience: After looking at the photos shown on the hotel's website of four poster beds etc etc I booked an Executive Family room with breakfast. On arrival we were shocked at how how run down the hotel looked. Once inside we were given the room key. The room was tiny 2 single beds and s double bed all lined up with less than a foot at the ends of the beds to walk past each and a chair and coffee table stood in the foot gap as well so moving from one end of the room to the other was an ordeal.
Negative experience: The worst ever place. A druggie place. Smell of cannabis everywhere inside the hallways and the staff refuses to do anything about it. I wouldn't stay there by myself let alone with my family. The quality of rooms is unbearable and the beds and mattresses are the worst you can imagine. If there was an option of ZERO stars I will give them zero. Steer clear. ANY REVIEWS THAT SAY ITS GOOD ARE EITHER PAID FOR OR THEIR OWN PEOPLE.
Negative experience: We visited the hotel as part of a mystery tour which wasn’t expensive so we weren’t expecting anything spectacular but this certainly was a disappointment. The hotel looked like a prison from the outside and the interior wasn’t much better. The corridors and the bedroom smelt of stale cigarettes, especially in the bedroom. The beds weren’t what I’d call comfy but they weren’t horrendous, the pillows were the best part about the room the bathroom was functional but definitely not clean, strange marks on the sink and bath, and the floor was sticky, and could see handprints all over the tiles. The ventilation wasn’t great in the room but it was a 30 degree weekend so can’t blame that solely on the room. The food at the hotel wasn’t great. It was all cooked but very simple. You could tell the mushrooms on the breakfast were frozen and we were brought cold toast. The coffee machine was nice but that was about the highlight of our dining experience. The table had a huge sticky smear all over it which we asked to be wiped away and it was still there at breakfast the next morning. In the morning, there was some unsavoury characters drinking outside. All I can say is, i wouldn’t have stayed here for more than one night and I certainly wouldn’t stay there again.
Fantastic experience: Staff were really friendly and helpful. We had a few motorbikes parked in the carpark and they kept an eye on them with the CCTV through the night. The rooms were clean and comfortable and not expensive. Plenty of pubs close by and easy enough to get into the city centre by a short taxi ride. I'd recommend staying here.
Negative experience: My post is long buy worth reading After a long and tiring lockdown we wanted to spend some quality time on bank holiday weekend. UNFORTUNATELY I booked this hotel for 2 nights. Peak District is a beautiful place, we went for hike and came back to the hotel only to find out that they don't even give you a water bottle. The walls are too thin you can hear the person snoring in the other room. On our first night the room right below ours were playing loud music, the woman was screaming and laughing and talking at 1.30am she was totally wasted on alcohol. Since there are no phones in the rooms to call Reception I had to go down at reception to complaint about her. They did go to that room but that lady didn't listen and at 2:50am she came knocking at my door swearing, of course I did not respond and she came back again after 25minutes. That means the hotel staff mentioned our room number to the woman that complaint came from this room and she came straight to us. That's very irresponsible on hotel staff's part. So there is no confidentiality. We had terrible two nights I couldn't sleep at all and they refused to give my money back or compensate. Other than that the beds and mattresses are too bad and old you can feel the springs and changing sides is a horrible experience on those beds. Shower knob was broken, curtain hooks were missing. They offer breakfast for £5.50pp which contains porridge and cereal I mean are you serious? Really need refurbishment. Terrible terrible stay. I would never ever stay there again even for free. DO NOT STAY THERE IF YOU WANT TO ENJOY PEAK DISTRICT
Negative experience: Room wasn't great, very basic. There was a kettle no tea or coffee until I asked for them. No water bowel for dog that I had paid for extra. No air con or fan in an unbearable hot room. Room was far too small for 2 adults, 2 kids and a dog. Nobody got any sleep all weekend. Could not wait to come home. Would not recommend this place
Positive experience: Good location and price with park and stay; room looked like it had been freshly repainted. Bathroom however very dated with difficult to clean surfaces. Some black hair trapped under basin, extract fan partially clogged with dust and no hand soap (requested from reception and got soap bars).
Positive experience: Basic hotel, has pool but with limited access due to Covid. Room is pretty basic but clean and has a decent bathroom. No internet in the rooms. Coffee & tea provided. Good parking, quiet residential area.
Positive experience: Not stayed here for a while around 18 month ago. Dated room and musty odour in the room. Old pillows could have been replaced I covered with a towel. Cheap price so didn't make a fuss.
Negative experience: Absolutely disgusting place to stay. Dirty, blood stains on the curtains, the room wasn’t even cleaned beforehand so crumbs on the floor. Vile. And the hotel refused to give us a refund. Terrible customer service and will certainly not be making the mistake of staying with Britannia again.
Negative experience: I arrived during the evening as I had only finished a 12 hour shift as a key worker, I was not happy with the first room as it was filthy and cold, therfore decided to complain, I was given another room which was also filthy and cold, when I was shown room No 3 which was so cold that I decided to leave and find another accommodation, I was refused a refund from a very rude receptionist. I notified them that I had taken photos of the rooms, (broken floor tiles and public hairs in the bathroom) they stated that they don't care as the company will not take any action. I contacted the hotel the next morning only to be told that the rooms where warm and very clean and I was lying. Please stay well clear of this disgusting hotel, they should not be allowed to trade when they treat people in this way.
Fantastic experience: I go to the gym because it is organised and so we'll run. You are completely safe to exercise. Staff are great they keep on top of sanitising equipment, so to members. I love the booking system for the pool you don't get the idiots who just want to fool around. I would miss this place terribly if we went onto lock down again it keeps me sane.
Positive experience: Horrible sleeping conditions, probably worth the money you spend to the degree its just a place to stay, was once reviewed as the worst hotel in Which is a bit harsh i think Travel Lodges are worse than concentration camps, this place i would pick again but travel lodge can seriously get fu**ed if they think al ever spend my money there again. Brittania Hotel has a great feel to it it almost feels like a giant haunted mansion, which is thrilling but my overall opinion is not a decent hotel, but i would come again if i had to i guess.
Negative experience: Absolutely disgusting never stayed in a dirtier room. Carpet is filthy, furniture is full of Mark's etc, no tea bags etc, cigarette ash in the bedroom drawers
Positive experience: The hotel was nice could do with a lick of paint in the hall ways. The room was good. They gym was brilliant. For a cheap night on a business stay over it was good.
Negative experience: No breakfast available just because chef was off. Why couldn't you hire another? Couldn't use the pool as you have to book first...why isn't that on the website? Rooms need redecorating.
Negative experience: Absolutely terrible, we were given a room that had no opening window and we had a small dog with us... We were told on booking breakfast was available, it was not. There was a strong smell of cannabis on the landing of floor one. The kettle was dirty, the toilet, sink and bath were dirty, all this on reopening after Covid 19. The reception staff were rude and despondent, there weren't any tea, coffee supplies in the room and we were treated like we were on rations when we asked for them. The manager was OK but appeared very despondent, the only helpful member of staff was the cleaner who we happened upon (thank goodness) in reception. It would appear that the hotel is used for offenders just out of prison and drug dealing was blatant right outside of the main hotel entrance. Please Brittannia take action and stop taking hard earned money from holiday guests. Staff at the local pub were horrified that we stayed at the hotel and actively sought alternative accommodation for us.... Terrible hotel... Terrible stay.... Terrible experience.. Needs closing down ASAP
Negative experience: Budget done badly. Staff were miserable. Room was old and tired. Bed uncomfortable. TV tiny and room poorly stocked. Bar meals were a disaster, powdered mash, burnt sausage, told I couldnt wear my jacket and had to pay by cash. Breakfast was the only redeeming experience earning it's one star. If you want to relax on a trip, book elsewhere and pay just a few pounds more, it is definitely worth it not to stay here.
Negative experience: The room was ok, however could of been cleaner... Never slept! The hotel looks ok on arrival but the whole place stunk of weed Would not advise staying here with kids. Police presence outside when we stayed, not a nice place
Negative experience: Needs shutting down for total refurb! Staff are kind and helpful (although short staffed) to the best of their abilities, however Britannia Stockport clearly hasn't been touched in many, many years (15-20). Health suite was useable but very tired, tiles coming away, freezing changing room, staircases up and down from changing rooms rusted to the point of parts coming off. Damp and leaking throughout building. Rooms basic (expect for price) but generally clean, however again very tired bedroom and bathroom, bad water damage by sink etc. Lacking of any lamps in room and no telephone. Unfortunately a fight broke out a few doors down from us, in the room and corridor at 11pm, and no telephone to call reception. Went to reception and was told to use the telephone in the corridor if we had issues... Clearly not safe or thought through! Breakfast is fine if quality is not an issue for you.
Negative experience: I wouldn't stay here again. Food is buffet style, which in itself I have no problem with but when the same food is out from service start to finish I think is not ok. They have a smart casual dress code which is nowhere to be found on there website and was refused a soft drink at there bar as I was in work attire. My door didn't shut properly on my room as the top hinge had fractured the frame and the door had dropped. However if you want cheap and a place to lay your head it's just about adequate, anything else spend £10-£15 more and stay somewhere else.
Negative experience: Rooms were dirty, was changed room twice, and all rooms were not cleaned to the 4* they say they have, bathroom was dirty with one room having poo on the outside of loo and under the sink. Spoken to manager as we wanted to leave and he refused to refund me. Not happy with this hotel. Don't stay here is my advise.
Negative experience: Would rate zero stars if I could, honestly the worst place I have ever stayed. I would not wish a night at this hotel on my worst enemy. I moved rooms three times in a night, left after one night (paid for two) and STILL have not received any form of communication about my refund. The reception staff also lie through their teeth about 'not being able to issue refunds themselves' because they know that there is no way you will ever be able to contact them afterwards. There was blood stains on the sheets, the rooms stank and were dirty and cold. I was woken up twice in a night by the people upstairs and had to go to reception about this four times before I was finally moved (at 5am). Save your money, it doesn't get any worse than this.
Negative experience: Booked a 3 night stay here. We normally stay at the Premier Inn but decided on a change and the price pool and leisure facilities sold it to us. We should have kept with the Premier Inn as we checked out after just one night, the britannia was disgusting. We had travelled up from Kent and had a long, tiring journey and arrived later than we wanted to, if we had arrived earlier I doubt we would have stayed as long as we did! We had booked for a family room 2 adults 2 children ages 4 and 10. The room was tiny and they had shoe horned the beds in. One of the children's bed was wedged up against the radiator that was too hot to touch let alone have a child sleeping next to it so we moved it as far away as possible and tried to get our heads down. The room was so hot we had a fan on and the window open. After a sleepless night due to springs coming through the mattress we found the true horrors of the room. The 12inch TV didn't work small problem when you have young children and there was no WiFi that they advertised. The room looked liked it hadn't been cleaned in a long time with stains and crisps on the carpet along with burn holes. Dust and hairs on the only table we had. We had only 1plug socket to use which the fan was in to try and keep us from over heating. The bathroom had a puddle which we found the toilet was leaking nice! There also seem to be a strange smell coming into our room which was the last straw it was CANNABIS! which was more evident when we went out into the corridor someone was smoking it somewhere on our floor. We spoke to a young girl at reception who was probably the only nice thing about this hotel, the manager in the other hand could not give a hoot about any of our problems and thought it was perfectly fine to have a child's bed up against a radiator where they could burn themselves. He told us we should have re tuned the TV, and when we told him of the cannabis he shrugged the young girl was mortified. My partner was so upset with the ordeal and the Britannia just made her worse the place needs closing down! DO NOT SUBJECT YOURSELF TO STAYING HERE YOU'LL PROBABLY CATCH SOMETHING!
Positive experience: Clean and comfortable. Decent location. Breakfast rubbish and the worst coffee I've had in a long while. Great staff. I'll stay again but skip the food!
Negative experience: Could not get my tipple(Morgans sliced rum) to bring in the new year. They ran out at 11.35pm. Bars not properly manned or stocked. Went to bed disappointed. Will not be back.
Positive experience: The Britannia hotel has seen better days, although it's what I'd call day to day clean, round the edges could do with a thorough clean and a lick of paint! The walk from the car park to the front door is rather dark in places and I feel that some would find this intimidating, so some extra lights outside wouldn't go amiss. The water pressure for the shower however was amazing. Never had breakfast so can't comment on that.
Negative experience: Worst hotel experience ever! Room and hotel was dirty and felt very unsafe. Car park was not secure and has 2 cars smashed and broken into and glass all over the floor. Didn’t sleep all night! Would never stay here again! Horrible hotel, pictures are nothing like the actual hotel and safety was a big concern.
Positive experience: The hotel and rooms could do with a bit of money spent on them, however it's always been clean, tidy and blooming good value. You get what you pay for...if you want Hilton style and quality then this is not for you, but somewhere safe and clean with free parking for a night or two which costs less than a Hilton breakfast then book it.
Negative experience: This was probably the worst hotel that I've ever stayed at bar none. The room we were allocated stunk of cannabis and no amounts of spraying could eliminate the smell. The towels all stunk of smoke and the bed was like lying on an upturned cupboard. All bedroom furniture and fittings wouldn't have made 50p in a jumble sale and the room was probably last painted circa 1970s. Evening meal was like a bad day at the homeless shelter overworked staff although friendly were not clearing tables and the turkey dinner was something that my dog would have turned its nose up at. I'd like to say cheap and cheerful but unfortunately it wasn't. Only highlight was the bar area came alive after dinner with the dj getting everyone into a good mood playing some cracking tunes and to be fair breakdast wasn't half bad. Good luck people you'll need it
Positive experience: It is what it is. A lot of people who check into this hotel are expecting 5* Luxury and it's not. But it is £35pn, there's a pool, a decent little bar, great breakfast buffet, and the beds are comfy. For that kind of price I think that's a good deal. It's not the Ritz, if you want posh go stay at the Principle in Manchester but that'll cost £120pn
Negative experience: Hotel is an unsigned maze of vomit stained hallways that stink.of smoke. First room.we.wete.in was disgusting dirty carpets.chairs.smears.om.walls broken sink.dirty poo.nath. Next room.eas okay but didn't restock toilet roll.or.hoover I'm several days. Food was basic. Drinks expensive Staff were miserable felt.like you were imposing on them by being there.
Positive experience: The hotel is nice and comfortable. I stayed there for a night and have no complaint. Tea and coffee service is provided. The lift is half functioning so be ready to drag your suit cases up the stairs and at times narrow corridors.
Fantastic experience: If my wife and hadn't had a fight, I would never have experienced such a lovely hotel, right on my doorstep. The beer was cold and the staff were attentive and friendly.
Negative experience: I booked this hotel as it had a gym(which u have to pay extra for), after i walked through the doors i realised why it was so cheap. I smoke myself but God.. the corridors stink of cigarette which makes me believe it is common practise for people to smoke in their rooms. Bed is uncomfortable. No shower gel or soap in the bathrooms. There is no WIFI in the rooms (which indeed isn't mentioned when booking, only checked after..). Takes 10 mins to walk to the room from reception and room signs are confusing. The walls are so thin you can hear the TV from next door, unless they were watching BBC News on max volume... Room was fairly clean I have to admit. Overall looks like this hotel needs knocking down and rebuilding, don't think any investments were made in the past 50 years or so. Stick to Premier or Holiday Inns.
Negative experience: Walls are paper thin. Stopped serving food half an hour before published time. Needs taking back to bare brick and doing from top to bottom. More staff required. Clientele needs to be better than screaming women, couples fighting till early hours of the morning and guys who want to watch sports in their rooms on the really high volume. Oh and entrance of hotel is where the smokers congregate. Do not stay at all cost unless you fit in with one of the groups mentioned.
Negative experience: A lousy hotel with "frozen food", noise from neighboring rooms and poor cleaning. The beds a tragedy. They also would not refund breakfast they could not serve for our departure at 07:45. This place should be closed. Is not recommended
Negative experience: Wow, what a place. I stay in a lot of budget hotels whilst traveling for work but this place takes the crown for worst l have ever stayed at. I can only describe it as a dump. Most definitely hasn't been decorated in 25 years and the bedroom was seriously poor quality. I could have accepted it a little more if it was reasonably priced but it was more expensive than sone of the other chains who have all been updated etc. Stick to Travelodge or premier in if l was you.
Positive experience: A good hotel. Service was great. Rooms were tidy. Unfortunately some of the rooms had a funny odour in the bathroom.
Fantastic experience: I was impressed of the service and the state of the rooms regarding the price we payed. The staff was incredibly helpful. The room we stayed in was tidy. The neighbour hood we stayed in was quiet. We got great value for what we paid. Highly recommend this place to anyone. There is a simple spa and training facility you can access for a small fee. A little bar where you can order drinks. A restaurant and breakfast buffet.
Positive experience: Bedroom windows on the ground floor are nailed shut, although there is a fan in the room, the air is stale also in the corridor. The bathroom needs updating. The beds are clean and the food is quite good.
Negative experience: Room was very dirty, stains on sheets, used chewing gum on the floor, flaking paint on walls ruined daughters expensive clothing, thick dust on ledges, window ledge had sticky glass rings left on the surface, supposed to be executive, nothing executive about it! Staff were helpful but with the standard of cleaning put me off coming back altogether! Needs overhauled!
Positive experience: Its exactly what you'd expect for a budget hotel, its clean and comfortable though and is ok for the money, could do with a refurbishment here and there but overall its ok.
Positive experience: It suited my needs was clean enough but the hotel did have a dusty smell. The walls are thin so was kept awake by noisy people, but it was free....
Positive experience: As it was free with airport parking it was good value. But... the hotel smells and is very tired. Walls are thin, kept awake with noisy guests. But it was free...
Negative experience: Crummy hotel I only go to for a twice yearly convention..I wouldn't actually stay there but the convention space is good for the events ( in that is It's a big olen space you can get lost of tables in) and is as far I can see the only advatagethe place has. The bar is reasonable prices and it's bar food is passable, however the restaurant is a bit overpriced for what you get from past experience.
Negative experience: Not had any money spent on it in years. Stinks of smoke throughout. Not dirty but not well kept. Lifts not working. Glad I'm not staying long. Don't fancy using the pool either
Negative experience: Wipe your feet on the way out! The place was filthy, I had to go to the shops for disinfectant wipes. Someone was smoking weed inside the hotel, I complained, nothing was done about it and there was no services during the day, so you couldn't even get a coffee. The whole place could do with decorating / cleaning.
Negative experience: Hasn't had a single bit of work done on it for about 40 years, it needs knocking down. That is no exaggeration, please trust me on this! When I got here I was in a rush. We were given a room that was a 5 to 10 minute walk away and when I got there the key card didn't work. I went back and the receptionist reprogrammed it. It still didn't work! Had to be given a different room in the end, it wasted about 30 minutes of my time.
Fantastic experience: I would certainly recommend this hotel for a stay. Rooms basic but you only sleep in them.A well equipped gym, swimming pool food is normal food well cooked.Staff friendly & efficient.Well recommended
Positive experience: Upon booking you will have option to select whether to have meal or not. Reception are accomodating even we arrive very late at night. For those who are driving big parking space are very important and so they have it which is well lighted as well. Parking has two access and through and through. There is also an access from car to the building. The lift is only one and small. Corridor to the left wing is a bit dodgy. Rooms are of a standard size with TV, hair dryer and tea set. Towel is provided but not enough. It is a beautiful room but they might have forgotten our toilet tissue. The shower curtain has a lot if stain on it. Hang on the walls are pictures of Russian faces with a English attire. And outside our room was a charcoal paint of a lady which if you see it in the middle of the night you will remember an old horror movie. It might be the reason why we were safe at night.
Fantastic experience: Got a deal on the room. Was clean and bed was very comfortable. Can't comment much more as I was visiting (from London) a friend who lives locally and only needed a place to sleep overnight.
Negative experience: 1 member of staff serving at bar and then running to restaurant to serve. Food came out with half the food missing. strong smell of weed (drugs) on the first floor reported it but nothing happened. No food or drink during the daytime got told by a staff member to go to the local pub down the road .Very poor I would avoid
Positive experience: Although our room was small and our bed hard, this hotel was excellent value for money. The room was spotless, limitless tea supplied. Pleasant and helpful staff. The night porter was especially patient and helpful since our key card would not work. I'd stay again.
Negative experience: The room was dirty with dirt on the floor, marks on the walls, dust on furniture, dirty bathroom. One toilet roll., a dirty bath. The only things that were clean were the towels and the bedding. It needed a good update and a good clean.
Negative experience: Ok it was £36 and that is cheap for a Friday night I suppose but it is dire. Car park is flooded, hotel is very dated. Bed sheets had hair of varying different lengths on them. Smell is awful. Bathroom had clearly only had a quick once over. Obvious that smoking in the rooms is common practice. Staff are pretty nice. Wouldn't dare try the pool. Picture below is from the roof believe it or not.
Negative experience: Booked this hotel through APH park and stay. Big mistake, the hotel was full of contractors some setting of to work at 4am. The room was adiquate but smelt of tobacco smoke, looking out onto a flat roof on the first floor the roof littered with tab ends and also ash on the inside of the room window sill, it was obvious someone had been smoking in the window which only opened about 4 inches. We slept with the window open but had to shut it due to someone else smoking weed out of adjoining room window. Never again will i stay at this hotel
Negative experience: So it’s currently 1:11 in the morning. I have a flight and need to get up at 4:50 but haven’t been able to sleep because the room is like a sauna. The fan in the corner of the room is ineffective. And you can hear people move around on the floor above. It’s cheap yes but for airport travel you might as well stay in somewhere like a premier inn.
Negative experience: Certainly wouldn't be staying here again. Very tired and in need of a good clean. Ordinary breakfast too. At least the bed was comfortable. Reception staff could do with happy pills too
Positive experience: The good. The rooms are about right for the money, a basic standard, and the take dogs. The bad. Lack of facilities for the dog, which we paid for, I.e no dog bowl for water. The ugly. You have to pay extra to use the pool £4 The breakfast is not worth the additional £7.50. The croissants at breakfast are actually bread rolls in croissant shape, finally no blueberry muffins. The area has no immediate green spaces to walk the dog.
Negative experience: Room was clean but l found the deputy Manager attitude to customers other than myself to be ignorant and hostile, this was also notice by other guests seated in the bar area. I was witness to a customer showing his frustration and anger at him behind the bar.
Positive experience: Lovely hotel, although could do with a little attention and updating. Carpets rather worn the deeper into the building you go. Rather mucky walls, could do with fresh coat of paint toward the back of the interior. Lovely fitness facility and helpful staff.
Negative experience: Felt like we were sleeping in sauna. Boiling hot. Couldnt sleep. Horrible beds. Had to drive to another place 20 min. to park the car and take bus from there to airport. Both times bus was over booked. Next time somewhere else.
Negative experience: This place is beyond disgusting.. but can't expect much for the price. Don't be fooled by the looks of the lobby once you get past the first flight of stairs you will discover how dirty this place is.... Bathroom leaks water and has mold....!! The breakfast is so bad.. it's not worth the extra 10 pounds at all... I do not recommend this place to anyone .. will never stay at this dirty hotel again. wifi is not reachable on the top floors .Only rave is the staff is nice !!
Negative experience: If you are thinking of staying here before your flight at Manchester Airport... do not bother.
Firstly, the hotel is run down and extremely out-dated. We walk in to the reception and we immediately see the 'bar' which resembles a home-mini bar from the Wythenshawe estate with the guests and furniture to match. We are then greeted by the person on reception who to be fair to them, they were nice enough although were moving at at speed which looked like they had whizzed or marched to Columbia and back. They informed us that all the shuttlebuses were booked up for the departure times we needed and that we would have to leave the hotel 2 and a half hours before we needed to be at the airport to catch a shuttlebus that departed 2 hours before we needed to be at the airport. What were we meant to do until our check in opens, lay about the bag-drop area? We were then told that we had to drive 20 minutes to the 'sister' hotel in West Didsbury in order to catch the shuttlebus. We live an hour and a half away from Manchester airport... why would we get up even earlier than we would if we had stayed at home? The point of staying at the hotel was to have some extra sleep and to make parking and transfers to the hotel easier. We explained that we were not going to bother with the shuttlebus and that instead we would get a taxi at an acceptable time to set off to the airport. Not that the person on reception cared, they simple said there was nothing they could do because all the buses were booked up.
We then began the walk to the room, we attempted the lift however once it opened we decided against it as one, it was the size of a cupboard, two, we were sure it was meant for one person and not two with luggage and three, the lift matched the hotel decor; run-down and on its way out. So we took the stairs to our room, guided by the garish carpet. We arrived at our room that that of a deluxe en-suite at HMP Strangeways and were greated by a smell of what we can only describe as fust, paint and new carpet. The smell was so bad that my boyfriend was heaving and had to open a window.
The bathroom I assume was the bathroom that was put in when the hotel was first built and hasn't been updated since. The bed sheets also smelt of fust and old smoke. When I got up in the morning, I washed my face in the sink with the 'hot' water but instead tepid water came out of the tap. We then drove 20 minutes to the 'sister' hotel in order to park the car in a 'secure' carpark which is more just a large hotel carpark. We got in our pre-booked taxi from Street Cars and paid £20 for the privilege.
I urge anybody who thinks they are getting a 'deal' with stay & park for Manchester airport to pay a little bit extra! Yes, the details of this farce were on my booking CONFIRMATION however prior to making the booking through Skypark, it was not made clear that we had to drive to another location AND the mini buses may be full (depsite entering my departure and arrival times upon booking). Next time, we will stay at home and pay for airport parking.
Negative experience: Wouldn't want to stay here ever again The place is run down and dirty. Our room was dirty the toilet was never cleaned properly the place stunk of cigarettes. The workmen who were staying there just walked in with dirty boots and clothes through communal areas causing the carpets to be unclean. There was supposed to be a dress code but they just pleased themselves and sat drinking and swearing. The whole place is just disgusting. I have give it one star because the meals were ok and the staff were nice to us.
Negative experience: I do not know how this hotel actually exists in the UK, very run down and dirty and I'm very fortunate that I opted not to have their breakfast because I'd hate to imagine how it was prepared in that filthy place. Cobwebs in the room and spiders running around, mouldy bathroom and heavily stained carpet, door and curtains. Do yourself a favour and never book in that place, it's a serious health hazard and I'm considering reporting the place to the relevant authorities. Disgusting! Please see photos
Negative experience: I booked in to the Britania hotel stockport, booking referance XXXXXX On arrival the greeting was fine and professional. I went to my room and "freshened up" thought I will go to the Bar and get a bite to eat and a glass of wine to be told by an "aggressive" conciarge/bouncer "No work clothes here mate" I replied you are joking I just want a glass of wine and order some food? He then insisted "forceabbly" i leave the bar area. I went to reception and requested a full refund for my nights stay, they refused. I then retired to my room and contemplated the situation for about 10 minutes. I left the hotel and checked pout as i was so disgussted . At no point when i was checking in and requesting to the check in staff that i be allowed food and drink to be booked to room was it ever mentioned that my attire was not acceptable at the bar, neither is there any mention of it on your website (i have checked and taken screen shots). Currently we are behind on a project/contract so myself as the MD is going out and actually getting my hands dirty so to speak. The experience I had this evening was not only ridiculous it was derogatory to the working men in this country. I can understand if they were covered in plaster etc to be refused service, our standard working outfit is site (it’s a brand) Black trousers and a company logoed T-shirt or jumper, all to be kept clean at all times where possible. I am absolutely disgusted by the attitude and I will add aggressive attitude of the “concierge” or rather security person at the Britania. Im 56 not a threat to anyone and the owner of a limited company, if one of my engineers ever spoke to a customer the way he did they would be out the door faster than a rat up a drainpipe. I am furious any human should have been treated the way I was tonight at your hotel . Please on all websites you promote your hotel advise there is a dress code. To be absolutly honest your staff need retrainng, i have contacted the company i booked the room that i did not use through and requested an immediate refund. Your security guy needs to understand PAYING CUSTOMERS PAY HIS WAGES, i am being polite calling him security/conciearge, you will ignore this i know you will, i am wasting my time typing it. I wont be wasting my time getting my money back il take this as far as i have to, you failed to priovide a service, refund me or ill see you in court! dont really care which one we can do small claims, high your in the wrong, some people would say its only a few quid, I am not one Ill raise it to high court if required, I know i will win the case and costs will be yours.
Positive experience: Clean hotel. Clean room with hot shower and comfy beds. Didn't use the pool and fitness area here. Used a pool near by with slides foe the children. Coffee and tea making facilities. Hair dryer in the room. Walls are thin so having noisey neighbours wasn't the best but this is the luck of the draw I guess. Staff friendly. Lift available but small so done expect to go up with more than two people and bags.
Negative experience: I understand we got our room in a deal but cleanliness is on very low level. Basically doesn't exist here. We just needed to place to sleep and take shower but we can forget about shower :/ very poor hygiene. I give one star because I could give less.
Negative experience: It’s alright if you just need a roof over your head but don’t expect much. I paid £70 in the hope of getting a higher quality of room and if I did, I’d hate to see the £39 rooms. The decor is straight from 1974, the chair in the room had a rip in it and the bath plug hole was full of hair. The view out the window was a wall and another guests window all of 3ft away. I quite seriously think that the Bates Motel had more character and charm The only redeeming feature was the friendly guy on reception who at least smiled despite our respective life choices which is why this reviewer is leaving 2 stars instead of 1. Oh and the wifi sucks, no signal and constant drop outs
Positive experience: Very basic stopped in room 72.... Bed was hard hardly slept our friends however stopped in another room to find a 1/2 eaten pizza meal left under the bed when they arrived. It worth your while checking your room... Hence to say it was quite disappointing
Positive experience: Very nice staff. Good location and free car park. Food was great at affordable price. On site gym and pool which were clean and beautiful. I have rated 4 stars out of 5 due to smell in corridors. But staff were spraying air freshener to freshen up the air. Would deffinetly coma back again. Thank you
Negative experience: Room 205 cold, sticky food in carpet and in bathroom. Very noisy all night as aircon and heating ducts above the room and ran all night. Smells musty.Buckets around the place catching water. I can go on but I think just from this you will get the picture.
Fantastic experience: My partner and I went here swimming. Facilities were clean but there were no changing cubicles so it's not for the non confident. It's an open plan changing room and my partner reported the same in the ladies. Spa pool is amazing and worth the 6 pounds for the visit. Bar area was nice and quiet. Staff were helpful. Would go again.
Positive experience: Good value. Low cost hotel - wouldn't stay for more than a night or two, but good for a quick stop off. Thin walls, small room, and a distance from twmown centre.
Positive experience: Good clean fairly basic accommodation. The staff are friendly and helpful. Check in was fairly straightforward even though there were a few rowdy people from Christmas parties around the reception area. For the most part they were happy revellers, though 1 or 2 were being more problematic. The staff remained calm and friendly throughout. Our room was fairly basic and not large, it was clean and bug enough for our short visit. Though the carpet needed a shampoo
Negative experience: Bad staff services and rude with the costumers. I paid for the breakfast and then I found that I need to wait to bring the eggs that are coming little and little. Small lift just for 2 people. The gym room and swimming pool needed to pay. Nothing said in the website that you need to pay separate. They told me that it is separate business. You believe that. The swimming pool and gym room inside the hotel and separate business. When I ask lady in the reception to do complain, she told me that she can do anything. Then I asked her to find the manger or some one else that he or she can take action about our complain, she said that is nothing important to call the manger and he not available. It is worst hotel that I have seen in my life
Negative experience: We booked 3 rooms Wednesday evening when we got to the rooms the hallway smelled of Cannabis 2 of our rooms smelled of stale smoke. 1 of us had to change rooms the smell was that bad. My boss was refused service at the bar because he had clean (Cargo bottoms) on and the male staff member at the bar was quite rude and happily told us he evicted a client without reimbursement the night before for questioning the same policy. Funny thing is we are working away in Stockport for the next several months fortunately we will not be going back to the Britannia.
