North Warwickshire and South Leicestershire College (Nuneaton Campus): Opinions
Negative experience: If you're a trade supplier DO NOT give this college credit, insist on payment in advance. They are the slowest payers and most disorganised finance department you would ever encounter. STUART ILEY is the Finance Director and should be fired for total incompetence. If he's not incompetent then he should come on the phone and explain why agreed invoices from small business suppliers remain unpaid for months. I can understand when another small business has a cash flow problem, but when you're a state supported educational establishment with an enormous budget, it's totally unacceptable.
Fantastic experience: Had my hair done today by the lovely Charlie Rees, your done a lovely colour and cut for me, it looks great, and you were so professional, I really hope you go far, and I would definitely recommend you to all my friends well done Joanne Sutton x
Negative experience: there was this girl I once considered a friend, someone I thought I could trust. But she loves to smoke weed, and that's something I want no part in. I told her I couldn’t be friends with her anymore, and what does she do? She says nothing and then goes so far as to put hand sanitizer on our chairs. And the worst part? The teacher promised to remove her from the college, but that was a lie. We've complained countless times, telling them how unsafe we feel, but nothing has been done. Not only did she start stalking me and my friends, but she also got other girls involved to bully us. We've given them so much evidence, but the college refuses to do anything. They kept telling us to just stop, but we haven't done anything wrong. They continue to follow us around, threatening things like cutting our hair or ripping our eyelashes off. We tried ignoring them, but it just got worse. This college is an unsafe, toxic place, and I regret every single moment of being here. Don’t make the mistake of coming to this place. It’s a nightmare!
Negative experience: Anybody having trouble getting back into this college, after introduction year to do level ones, two people that I know have been told that they haven't got grades yet the people haven't seen there grades. One person had a letter of acceptance now told no. What's going on it terrible
Negative experience: The whole experience as a part of the EHE class was awful. We had winters without heating, months without a teacher for literature, no proper books for English language in year 11 and every time I brought up a problem it was ignored ( I spoke to the head of EHE at the time when I was in year 10 and my Mom's email complaints were ignored). The whole time we were treated as though the most we could achieve were 4s and we would all need to go to a level 2 course. This is especially evident in the way the maths is delivered to students ( this was absolutely not the teacher's fault in any way but the management). I was doing higher and predicted a 7 but had no class or time dedicated to any work above a grade 3 level in college. The teacher (Kanella Godenn-wood) was amazing at assigning and helping with the higher homework but the actual classes were a waste of time for someone like me who came in with a grade 6. The English language classes are another area in need of desperate attention. The whole first half term of year 11 none of my home or class work got marked. It only went down hill from there when we did get work marked it was by ourselves and a slide of the mark scheme on the board with no further nuance. This set the tone for the class as the teacher seemed disinterested and bored as she read out slideshows she didn't make off the board and complained about the amount of marking she had to do. This unending amount of marking confused me as i sat with a folder full of unmarked work that I was not allowed to take home incase of an OFSTED inspection. The other major complaint I have about the language class is the fact we had no actual books. We had in year 10 but they were replaced by flimsy, thin booklets of paper stapled together. A lot of people including myself finished these with a whole term left and needed the teacher to rip out paper from one of her books. Literature is a class which had two wonderful teachers however in year 10 we spent months without a teacher as she had health problems and needed time off which I have no qualm with however instead of getting a substitute management left us to fend for ourselves, which of course left us and the new teacher in year 11 falling behind and with weak topics. The one star for this course is for some of the teachers Kanella and Cassandra who went above and beyond to provide us with the best education they could give us. They are absolutely the only good part of this whole experience. To sum up the whole experience is impossible I have a list of things which are wrong with the college but the main point is the fact that students are treated as though the most they can achieve is the bare minimum. The expectation for us is to get 3 gcses and need to go onto a level 2 course. The whole experience is just that, the bare minimum again the lack of heating in winter, the lack of communication with students around exam time and general feeling that we are nothing more to the college than a bunch of poor results waiting to happen is awful. I cannot recommend this college to anyone whether you are getting high or low grades because the college is not structured to make you better but rather as damage control for when you do fail.
Negative experience: From my experience this college isn’t the best. If you are thinking of doing a business t-level, I wouldn’t advise you do it. To start off, I had three teachers. But I had two main ones that I had for the majority of the time. One was great, but one was awful. I used to tell him upfront that his teaching style didn’t suit me and some of the other students for that matter. But it didn’t change. The timetabling was useless too since the times we were timetabled were beyond actual college hours and the times that we finished at never matched. One of the days we had a lesson and sometimes there was an 30 min - 1 hour wait until the next one! I wrote an email to the relevant manager which sought to different departments, I think. Don’t quote me on this one. Nothing really got done about this either. Some of the students too - disgraceful. Their behaviour used to make me feel ill. They would talk about inappropriate things which include such - burping, bodily functions and they used to pick on me too, and others! Also, the classrooms aren’t the most hygienic either, I picked up quite a few colds and the food wasn’t the best either. I’ve now left the college, and thankfully, I will be moving on to something which i will enjoy more. Apart from the lovely reception staff, I would not recommend the college.
Fantastic experience: I done a distance learning with these and they are brilliant. And my tutor is one of the nicest people ever. Thank you
Negative experience: Don’t bother submitting an online request on their website. I did this twice 3 weeks ago and heard nothing back. These days this is amateur hour. Either not managing online enquiries or deleting them.
Negative experience: Awful management. They have absolutely no care in the world to resolve bullying in this place and only seem to care about their sad excuse of a reputation. Advice? Avoid this entire building.
We are sorry to hear that your experience. We do take bullying seriously. Could you please contact us at [email protected] we will investigate this for you.
Negative experience: The college were quick enough to take my money to pay for my course however it took over 7 months to receive my certificate. During this time the communication from the college was awful, they ignored my emails until I asked to put in an official complaint. The building itself is dirty, no drinking water provided, some departments have hand written 'back in 10 minutes' signs, you have no idea when the 10 minutes started. The walkway from the back of the college is very poorly lit. The lecturers are really unprofessional they think its okay to bad mouth the college and their bosses to students. I added an extra star as the reception staff and the library staff are lovely.
Negative experience: Warning Never studied at this college.. I did my level 1 hairdressing and the year after they won't let me do level 2 hairdressing... the worst college in the area..
Negative experience: did a hairdressing course at the nuneaton nwslc college, the rooms were untidy and lecturers were persistant on trying to demonstrate on students hair without their permission. they burnt chunks of my hair off and made me feel very cornered. as well as this the food is absoultely outrageous i almost fainted seeing the prices of a small hashbrown. which didnt even taste nice. thanks to the overpriced food i was stuck on the toilet for a week because of the overpriced hasbrown. DONT GET FOOD HERE SAVE YOURSELVES.
Positive experience: Great courses
Negative experience: My daughter studied level 1 and 2 hairdressing was told she was qualified to find out she wasnt because they false advertising courses so she feels like she wasted 2 yrs for the career she wanted to pursue would not recommend this college at all
Fantastic experience: Both my lads attended one mainly the Hinckley Campus the other Nuneaton campus. My eldest had great support and thanks to the Principles support we managed to secure 4 scholarships to Teeside University. One scholarship for my eldest and 3 others which may not have happened with out the Principle supporting my letter to Teeside. Originally because they weren't 'A' level students and took the BTEC avenue, which for arts is more sensible they might not have received the scholarships which were worth £4k for the term of University. See fighting for things does work. Well done Stuart for achieving a 1st with Hounors too! A first University student in my family too! Well done to Michael too achieving his apprenticeship as an electrician, Chip off the old block! Slow starter but made it in the end.
Negative experience: Have tried getting an extra qualification, they messed me around for over a year. Then put me on a course and i recieved no guidance of any sort. Its been 15years since i was at college so naturally it would take me awhile to get back into things. Still they were no help.
Fantastic experience: Very good to learn
Positive experience: Personally I like the collage and have been looking forward but I'm not so sure anymore if it was a good idea the teacher I have is nice except I see that I'm being pushed for my work even tho I have a problem with it
Negative experience: Nuneaton campus is atrocious! The college sends warning letters to parents, regarding students bad attendance for online lessons, when it is the tutors fault for not inviting the students to online lessons in the first place!! As it is the responsibility of the tutor to invite the students onto the online lesson each time a lesson is due to take place, may i suggest to certain tutors who don't know what their left arm is doing from their right, to enrole themselves on a course in organisation...as at the moment they don't know how to organise a empty draw!!! Totally useless college. I would look to send your child to a different college if i was you.
Hi Tiffany! Thank you for letting us know about this situation. Can we please have your contact details and who your child is, so we can investigate this further? Please send us an email at [email protected]. Your help and contribution are much appreciated!
Negative experience: The college is disgusting! They have told me to take time out education because they're not Professionally trained in mental health issues and they think they know students feeling better!
Positive experience: Pretty alright teachers for the most part but the counsellor is awful and pays attention to the bully instead of the victim and will discuss very private matters in front of them without asking for the victim's consent or anything
Hi, Galaxy! Could you send us an email, please, as we would like to know more about this? Thank you!
Fantastic experience: Hello this was a helpful college I came looking for a teaching assistant course and they did not know I have a nvq in early years childcare and education . I had already completed a apprenticeship in this hard course. I phoned up to say I had already done it and they understood. Yes I am grateful they took my name off that course straight away. Thank you.
We are happy to hear this, Sonia, please let us know if you need anything else!
Fantastic experience: The staff are very warm and helpful from reception, finance, library, catering and many tutors who support a wide range of individuals with different needs. It’s the best I have ever been to. I have two degrees and now changing careers as a mature student. North Warwickshire and Hinckley College has given me the strength to widen my ambition. I highly recommend the hair, beauty and complementary therapy department as this is now my career 100%.
Thank you for your kind words, Julianne, we are really happy that your time with us really helped you propel your career. Good luck with all your endeavours!
Negative experience: My motorbike got stolen and there are very nasty teachers at Nuneaton campus
Negative experience: I was told through out my first year that i would be able to go onto my next level weather i get my GCSE english or not and i have know found out that it was wrong i was pushed to apliy for my next course when i wasnt sure what to do i am now being pushed aside and told just pick something out when i have had a letter telling me i am enrolled on the course the college have confirmed that the letter is wrong and have gone out to everyone but arent doing anything about it they are just pushing me to pick something else or have a gap year it has not been handled well.
Hi, Ella-Mae, thank you for your comment. Our director of curriculum is already dealing with your request and will be in touch as soon as. We hope this helps.
Negative experience: Web site will not load, absolute rubbish won’t be applying here.
Positive experience: Nice, £1 to park if you're staying over 30 minutes.
Positive experience: Offer a good range of course
Fantastic experience: Really kind people and I like the fact it is quite small and not overcrowded. I'm thankful they offer my course of choice here as I couldn't find graphic design anywhere in my town. I don't know why there as so many bad complaints but from when I went there it seemed 100% better than my high school. I now currently go here and I made friends instantly and the course is pretty good. You get loads of freedom to do what you want within your project. HINCKLEY GRAPHIC DESIGN
Negative experience: YOU CAN'T WEAR HATS!!! (JK) Although the tutors change every 5 minutes
Negative experience: would not recommend this college they lose paperwork and change teacher every 2 week and you cant wear a hat or even breath!
Positive experience: Good parking, Level disabled access with lift to upper floors and 'Changing Places' disabled toilet on ground floor (unsure of facilities on other floors). Small canteen and coffee shop for staff and students. Library for staff and students.
Fantastic experience: Well equipped for woodwork, metalwork, haircutting and other trades.
Negative experience: Did not even get as far as studying part time in the college due to the appalling admissions service. Application process online does not work, enquiries on e-mail are not answered, ladies answering a phone are clueless about the courses and give wrong information ,which lead to being turned down on the enrolment day due to all kinds of excuses on their behalf!
Negative experience: Awful college and shocking complaints procedure with no one dealing with your complaint properly or in the correct manner. English and Maths courses never ran alongside course properly. Courses are classed as full time but definitely a very part time one that my offspring was on and they would of benefitted just as much from it as doing a night course just once a week. Badly let down by course with no other course offered yet you are supposed to be in education or approved training until you reach 18 years old. Unhelpful tutor of course . The guidance centre for courses and careers was useless and provided no options they didn't even know what courses would be running in January and its December already. A SHEER WASTE OF TIME!!!
