Nuffield Health East Kilbride Fitness & Wellbeing Gym: Opinions
Negative experience: As a long time (15year ) Nuffield member at this club . This is a realistic review Large gym area, lots of variety. Equipment- old and most is second hand fork other clubs Changing rooms and showers and sauna absolutely filthy- desperate for renovation Eg dirt and dust/broken lockers/ broken gents toilet recently 3 months , panel falling off urinal 8-10 years Pool - recently painted but needs investment to poolside showers , one window cracked. Constant swimming lessons between 3-6 daily somimpossible to get a swim in as only 2 thin lanes available. Carpets- filthy stained , worn Could do with significant investment to bring it up to standard. I keep going as the classes are good and it's priced keenly, and members friendly. Complaints are pretty pointless as these issue of maintenance and investment been on going for at least 10 years
Fantastic experience: I’ve been a member for a year now and I find the staff are friendly and helpful, lots of different classes which is great & the cafe is great for catching with with friends
Positive experience: Nice
Negative experience: Below average gym, moving to PureGym. Staff are great, had PT sessions which were immensely helpful reaching goals but beyond this below average gym. The facilities are tired and have needed renovation for years now. The pool was renovated recently but other than the ceiling paint flakes being removed nothing obvious has changed. The jacuzzi has been shut for over a year now and seems to be indefinitely as it’s been covered up. Gym is very small and lacks some equipment, free weights area often too busy to get a work out done within a reasonable amount of time. All this considered I think the membership prices are too high and this is why I have decided to move gym. Very poor from Nuffield who I hear have decided to raise the prices of membership in 2025. Better gyms in EK, go elsewhere
Negative experience: For 50 quid a month you expect better, on all fronts. How simple is it to have wi-fi that works! Jeezo, poor show.
Negative experience: I signed up very excited in the beginning of the year. It has been very dissappointing to say the least. I go there for the pool, steam room specifically. The steam room has not work properly on and off since I joined. It has been down for the last two weeks. When I inquire, it is always the same story, awaiting a part...where is the contingency and maintenance management. Furthermore the amount of times the pool is closed is astonishing for the rate I pay. If it is not refurbishment, it is simply a message saying pool is closed, you will be notified when it is open again. The water is also really cold. I am actively looking at joining another gym.
Negative experience: This gym needs a complete refurbishment.
Negative experience: I read reviews before signing up and its not too bad in my opinion. Visually its fine. But for £58 a month I would expect something better, better service.I signed up only so I can attend aqua aerobics and couple of classes. Every time Ive been to the pool it was cold so I stopped going. The class I wanted to go to was always full and by full I mean uncomfortable to exercise. To book a class you need to do it at 7am otherwise you might not get it as there is always a massive waiting list (for most popular classes) really strange not customer friendly booking system.wanted to book gym tour and that was cancelled on me few times and once no one showed up as it wasn’t booked in the system.so I gave up. I got signed up for Health Personal Best programme where I suppose to receive personal action plan which never happened. By that time I lost my interest in going to the gym . Manager (or assistant manager) woman who has blond bleached hair and ridiculous eyelashes is rude and cheeky. Looking like this and behaving like she does I wonder how did she get this job and how is she keeping it.
Negative experience: For the money they charge it really is poor. I’ve used a number of Nuffield gyms and this is by far the worst of them all. Very small gym filled with old equipment, changing rooms are tired and the pool area no longer has a jacuzzi and the temperature in the sauna and steam room has been turned down. Only thing I will say is the staff are great.
Positive experience: To many problems with this gym
Negative experience: The place is falling apart, in dier need of a full refurb. I’ve been a member of this gym for a few years now, after moving from another Nuffield when I moved house. The drop in quality between gyms was shocking. Opening hours were much better in my old Nuffield too (membership here is slightly cheaper). In the few years I’ve been here absolutely nothing has improved- yet membership costs have increased. Nuffield have not spent a penny in this place for years and it shows, equipment is run down and tired. Multiple treadmills out of order every time I’m in (taking up space that could be used effectively with other machines). The full gym layout desperately needs to be assessed and rearranged, too many members to justify only 3 benches and limited free weight section. No stairmaster, no ground pulley. The jacuzzi has been closed for over a year and now covered up with some drywall to hide it. The only reason I have stayed is for the pool but I’m not sure it’s worth it, as the pool lacks quality too. The only good thing about this Nuffield is the staff, who deserve 5 stars. I feel for them having to work/manage such a low quality facility (especially compared to other Nuffields close by). Polite and friendly group of people who do their jobs well.
Fantastic experience: I’ve been a member here with for just over a year. The negative reviews really didn’t do justice for this club. The staff are always welcoming and accommodating, the kids classes are well run with great varieties compared to other Nuffield clubs or even David Lloyds in Hamilton. Some parts of the decor can be refreshed, however that doesn’t affect the use of the classes or facilities.
Positive experience: I’m posting this under another name however It’s an honest review of the facility at my home gym. I joined the Nuffield in January along with my wife and for what we paid it is “adequate “….if you are a maintenance manager you will see that it’s a tired place from the UPVC panels in the guys shower areas needing cleaning (the girls are apparently just as bad)… carpet tiles which are threadbare from when it was “Cannons” with water damage and if your in the pool look up at the ceilings peeling paint. The locker room requires a good amount of updating and don’t ask how lockers work We actually went to the Tier 3 gym in Edinburgh which is “supposed “to be the same standard as ours…..OMFG…HUGE gym with superb touch screen cardio machines and fantastic facilities compared to the EK and its got a great cafeteria area and pool ( please visit if your in any doubt) With over 4000 members we should be able to get something much better than what we are currently experiencing. And lets not forget the state of the worst pot holed roundabout directly outside that has had nothing done to it since goodness knows when Members will know exactly what I mean….take a trial visit and see what I’m talking about
Fantastic experience: Great staff, friendly atmosphere.
Positive experience: Very well run health service and gym..
Negative experience: The gym is far too small tbh and the weights area in particular has nowhere near enough benches considering the number of gym members attending the club. Both the weights area and mat area in the gym were clearly an after thought as you can often get nowhere near them, even during non-peak times. I would advise Nuffield to expand these areas as not everyone is interested in using machines every workout. I will be switching to a cheaper gym which shockingly has far more workout space than Nuffield. Disappointing
Negative experience: Thieving b_______s
Negative experience: Undoubtedly the worst Nuffield Health gym I've been to, all over the UK. It's run down, carpets worn out, old and broken gym equipment (many years older than other NH gyms at the same tier amd not fit for purpose), small, cramped filthy changing rooms with locks that don't work, broken showers, broken benches, tapa that dont work, jacuzzi that's permanently broken, a steam room which isn't fit for purpose, I get more steam from my kettle in a kitchen! Frankly, a hideous experience with no thought to the paying member, uyter rubbish. I'm only thankful this isn't my home club because I'd have left years ago.
Negative experience: Wouldn’t really recommend it to anyone! Majority of the time somethings either closed or broken. The gym is tiny compared to other Nuffield Health gyms , and the machines are very old and very run down. Even the locker room is not good with half the locker codes not working! And for final how expensive for all of that is an absolute joke! Won’t be back.
Negative experience: Gym is getting run down and the equipment is too old and often needs repairs. Jacuzzi not working. The road into the gym is full of potholes. Has been for along time now. I'm constantly asking when they will be repaired, never get an answer. Seriously considering moving to another gym. Actually disgraceful when you think of the money we pay!!
Negative experience: Place needs a serious renovation. Building and interior completely run down and is a million miles away from other nuffield health clubs in Glasgow. Jacuzzi no longer in operation. Tiny gym space. It's a lot of money for a membership for a seriously run down health club.
Fantastic experience: Joined Nuffield to take part in Les Mills fitness classes. I love it, but I hate that you have to wake up at 7am to book a class 8 days in advance. If you don't book ASAP you end up on the wait list and the membership us way too expensive to spend your week on the wait list.
Negative experience: I joined two months ago, the building needs basic maintenance as paintwork is peeling and chipped. The jacuzzi has not worked since I’ve been there. I do enjoy the aqua aerobics classes with Lorraine but am considering moving to another more well maintained gym which is a shame.
Negative experience: Gym is decent although a lot of equipment is old/worn. Backing up what a previous review has highlighted, I also had a good watch stolen from a locked locker which had been opened using the override code. Very little contact from the staff/management since the incident and despite requesting other members be made aware of this, no changes to security in the gym. Please be aware there are thieves using this gym.
Positive experience: The pool is quite restricted often to one clockwise lane, ok to swim but not for rehabilitation. Lots of cardio machines and weight machines. Good range of classes, with a booking app.
Negative experience: Decent gym but subject you to the most awful techno music at fever pitch, Everyone has headphones on so don’t see why they need to spoil the experience
Fantastic experience: Lots of areas for relaxing plus a decent selection of equipment for a workout.
Fantastic experience: Good gym and staff are helpful.
Negative experience: Really suufers from lack of basic maintenance . Peeling paint in pool area. Been like that for at least 7 years. Old equipment. Mens locker rooms outdated need a refresh.
Negative experience: For EK Nuffield being such a huge building, the gym is so small. It’s so cramped and the equipment is poor quality and very, very old. Expect squeaking, clunky treadmills, cracked seats and rusty functional machines. For this being such an expensive gym (compared to JD next door which is half the price and triple the quality) you’d think Nuffield would do better. Stars are for the staff who are helpful and class variety is pretty good.
Negative experience: Security shocking and staff would rather protect the reputation than their customers. I've lost a good watch which my insurance company wont pay out on as I was not wearing it at the time! I have watched staff hand a key to people if they cant remember their locker pin, I have watched them open several lockers for people to see if its theirs if they forget and there is an overeode code for anyone to open lockers. I complained and the manager said that is impossible but then confirmed to my insurance company that it was!! Serious issue.
Fantastic experience: Had a great swim today, there were only three others in the pool when I was in.
Negative experience: By far the worst Nuffield I have been to , paint falling off the ceiling , light hanging out the pool , place is so run down way below the standard I would expect from Nuffield
Positive experience: I’ve been a member of the gym for around 5 years and every year it’s getting more tired and ill-maintained looking. Lots of weights machines are clunking or damaged, the treadmills are so noisy and clunky and the air conditioning has never really worked as far as I recall, which is a nightmare on warm and humid days. There’s currently issues with the pool which means it isn’t open, and the jacuzzi is out of order too. I appreciate COVID will be slowing down the pool repairs as they happened relatively recently, but gym equipment has been like this long before Covid. It’s a shame as the location is really convenient and it has the potential to be the great fitness centre it once was, but needs some investment.
Positive experience: Good gym to be fair and friendly staff. But if you like doing spin classes or classes in general then dont join. They have a spin studio with about 8 spin bikes, and every class has a waiting list of 30+ people...
Fantastic experience: Great equipment, friendly pt,s . Massive bonus having a swimming pool.Plenty of classes a real club
Fantastic experience: Great place to swim and exercise, staff always very friendly and helpful. Would not consider going to an other gym !
Positive experience: Disappointed that Nuffield have now gone over to Technogym. Its good that they have a new Concept 2 cross country ski machine but the gym is now just too crowded with equipment. Paper dispenser empty and only one water fountain.
Negative experience: Overrated, go to the Xercise for less next door, better gym, better value and no snobs to tolerate either
Negative experience: Used to be a clean maintained gym but not the cheapest. At the moment jacuzzi broken .disabled lift broken .showers broken.layers of dust on machines.walls n bins a disgrace.if leather padding on anything its falling apart .Customers walk about shoes off ur at a gym n other people lay on floor. Rarely get into to swim as the same people stay in for a hour at a time .times on website n poster disagree with each other .lockers find a clean 1. Needs a update not painted. Needs a proper cleaner .pay more than double to use equipment that is dirty or broken .spend some money getting it fixed .shud have stayed at other gym but ur tied to a 12 month contract
Negative experience: Not a member of this gym, however did use the service to arrange swimming lessons. Booked in for a couple of lessons and these were fine but was then was cancelled at very short notice 2 weeks in a row with valid reasons given and told I would be contacted to rearrange. Never been called back following this so had to go elsewhere. This was a shame as the gym and facilities look pretty good, however I felt there was a lack of professionalism in my experience
Good morning Craig, thank-you for your recent review. We appreciate all feedback, both positive and negative. We are sorry about the unfortunate cancellations of your swimming lessons and apologise for a member of our staff not contacting you to re-arrnge. We hope we will see you back in our gym again soon. Kind regards, Nuffield Health East Kilbride Fitness & Wellbeing Gym.
Negative experience: Overpriced gym, you'd be better looking at xcersise4less next door or puregym in the shopping centre
