Our comment from FitFit UK about Nuffield Health Croydon Central Fitness & Wellbeing Gym:
Nuffield Health Croydon Central Fitness & Wellbeing Gym is a facility that offers a range of amenities, catering to fitness and wellness enthusiasts. Users have praised the spacious gym layout, friendly staff, and the availability of a swimming pool and sauna. Many members have highlighted the variety of classes available, making it a suitable choice for those looking to diversify their workout routine.
However, the gym also faces significant criticism regarding its maintenance and cleanliness. Many users reported that equipment is outdated and often broken, and the hygiene standards have declined in recent months. Complaints include unclean changing rooms, issues with the air conditioning, and the lack of hot water in showers. Furthermore, some members have expressed frustration over the customer service experience, noting that concerns raised with management often go unaddressed.
Despite these criticisms, the gym has its strengths, primarily in the form of its dedicated staff and community atmosphere, as well as the potential for improvement. Overall, while Nuffield Health Croydon Central has room for enhancement, it remains a solid choice for those who value community support and a variety of fitness classes.

Nuffield Health Croydon Central Fitness & Wellbeing Gym: Opinions
Fantastic experience: This is a great Nuffield. The gym is spacious. Friendly staff and clean
Negative experience: I have been a member of this club for just under a year and It is one of the worst gyms I have used. My membership is nearly £60 per month and I feel like I've been conned. I have raised issues with the general manager and customer services several times and have been ignored and avoided by the general manager. Just on that customer service alone I would avoid this gym, however there are plenty of other reasons to! A key thing to know is that if you have any need to use the lift due to disability or mobility issue, the one here doesnt work and has been pretty much out of order for the whole time I have been a member. The equipment is out of date, nothing matches and thre gym is overall dirty. As a regular gym goer, there are quite a few things that are so basic that this gym fails at: - There are 3 cable machines - all single with 2 matching. The 2 matching are so far apart you are limited which exercises you can do. Simple fly exercises are pretty much out of the question. - No barbell is the same and the weights are unknown. Some bars have plastic ends some dont, but seemingly only one weighs 20kg. - The 3 benches in the freeweights area are a mix of seeingly 1990s benches and argos £30 benches. Either super unstable or incredibly uncomfortable - The one easy curl bar is plastic -The airconditioning is just a fan in the corner of the gym - All of the freeweight section is layed out badly. You are only able to spot on one bench press bench as the other is pushed back so far against another piece of equipment - The cardio equipment is extemely dated and alot of the treadmills stutter when in use. Its dangerous. -While doing pullups on the 'jungle gym' frame, a class was due to start and instead of the instructor asking me to finish up on it, she decided to setup around me. The person following her to help walked straight into me while i was hanging. The instructor notices but pretended not to. Thats a one off for me, but I doubt its the first time something like that has happened. I cant speak about the pool or sauna as I dont use them, but if the cleanliness is similar to the rest of the gym, you'd be best to avoid both! I can honestly say this gym is rubbish.
Positive experience: The staff is lovely, but the whole place could do with an upgrade. I’ve recently joined, and it’s quite bittersweet. It’s a good gym with great facilities, but all machines are very, very outdated, and the showers and changing rooms could do with being done up. For the price and the reputation Nuffield Health has (and other Nuffield Health gyms I’ve been to), this one lacks quite a lot.
Negative experience: Wack ass gym. Pulled up 7:10pm to go gym but “last entry 7pm.” Promised the guy I’ll be out in half an hour but he wanna be a square about the rules.
Positive experience: Look / they could do a better job with keeping things clean, but the sauna is always nice and hot, the steam rooms are mostly OK. The gym area is I would say designed for people who are keeping fit and healthy and training the basics, good range of classes available and staff are nice . Would be 5 stars for me if they managed to keep on top of cleanliness - if I was horrible I would rate 3 stars due to cleanliness but I can manage
Negative experience: Hygiene poor never soap hand wash in the men’s toilets even when I told the lady at the desk twice .Three times find it empty .
Negative experience: Staff not friendly or helpful
Fantastic experience: This is review is on the team, not facilities All staff are very nice and helpful , from maintenance team to reception and trainers. But special congratulations to Agi and Faye for their commitment to helping clients with joint pain programme. They put their heart and soul in helping patrons get the best from them and same energy every time. They go the extra mile! Thank you ladies
Negative experience: Avoid! The place continues to slide. Severely run down. Absolute rip off. You're much better off joining a GLL gym... Wish it was possible to give this place a Zero star rating.
Negative experience: Joined a year ago and was so pleased at first but over the past 12 months the cleanliness has really slipped, the machines are constantly breaking, one water fountain has never worked and classes are impossible to get a space on. The staff are so friendly but with £10 increase in my membership fee and the continuous decline in the quality of the gym I’m heading to Pure
Fantastic experience: Nuffield Health "Joint pains management program" was without, a doubt very helpful in supporting my personal management joint pains on a daily basis. The program is well designed for every manageable levels of exercises. Our trainer's Agi and Faye made sure everyone was well supported, giving very much clear directions, supported and quality guidance, making sure the use of exercises equipment's was in keeping with everyone's individual needs of strength level and capabilities. They continually supported, giving quided advice, encouragements and support everyone's well-being thurs ensuring a well balanced individual needs throughout the duration of the programme. There is no doubt in my mind that this program has been a game challenger for me personally. This program has provided me with new and great friendships thus giving me the opportunity enhance a better quality of life for me and my new found friends. My only concern is the high cost of memebership fee. Many of us will dearly love to continue the journey to betterment management of our daily joints pains issues. I believe that it is through these regular exercises so well planned by Nuffield Health that we can call become part of a healthy nation. Thank you again Nuffield Health. Victoria.
Negative experience: It's the most basic gym with old equipment. I cannot believe how expensive it is for what it has to offer.
Fantastic experience: Great trainers, good range of classes
Fantastic experience: A lot better then other local nuffields.
Positive experience: Ok but I get fed up with equipment being out of service for months & nothing seems to happen! They've even given up putting it on the notice board! Soch for keeping members informed!
Fantastic experience: I absolutely love going to classes that Zan teaches. Her energy, teaching & smile always lifts me & I leave feeling fabulous (albeit a bit sweaty!!) :-)
Positive experience: Good gym and polite staff. Lately the hygiene standards have dropped. Despite having more cleaners, the showers are still filthy and need upgrading. Members don't follow health and safety rules and block the sauna entrance by sitting on the floors.
Fantastic experience: I’m so happy with all your support from the receptionist to the personal trainers and the domestic. My physical, mental end emotional health has improved dramatically Thank you so much
Negative experience: They make the times up and kick you out so they can get home early. Say the gym shuts at 8pm they will shut sauna at 6.30 and kick you off gym floor at 7 and deny entry to the gym before 7. Just ridiculous. Where as any other Nuffield for example in Purley they do not do any of this
Fantastic experience: I really respect and like Willsons work - The house keeper. The floor in the changing room is A1, so clean. Its a pleasure to come to this gym as its very clean. Well done.
Positive experience: This physio program I attended was very good.Help me set myself on healing journey Coaches gave me a lot of Support and help me in recovery
Positive experience: Good varied exercises, which I preferred to the talks. Very helpful instructors but they need to be careful about some of the advice they give about nutrition.
Fantastic experience: Excellent very supportive of my disabilities
Fantastic experience: My experience so far has been great. Faye and the team are nothing but extremely friendly, helpful and knowledgeable.
Negative experience: Do not join a Nuffield gym unless you want to be pestered after validly cancelling a rolling monthly contract and receiving confirmation of the same, and having all your details passed on to a debt collection agency for the sake of £45 which I don't even owe!
Negative experience: Good morning, Regarding Croydon Central. The start is for the great customer service of the staff, they are great at Central Croydon. However, is the worse gym I have ever been to. The gym is outdated, machines broken for months, dirty, honestly you wouldn't feel comfortable working our in this place. STAY AWAY. I noticed the poor maintenance of the equipment the day I registered, but they told me that all of it was going to be fixed. 6 months later, simply some of the machines have been broken for months. You are definitely better of at the low cost gyms around the area, DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY HERE. Go and have a look and see it for yourself. there are sign made in a positive way such as "I'm ill today" something like that, on the equipment. We are not children, simply close it and fix it by the next day. Don't be fooled those signs will never be removed, as it takes months to fix them. The ones that work are not nice to work with. I am simply waiting to end the year contract and leave. Unfortunately I made my flatmate join too which makes me feel really bad. When I tried to cancel the contract stating that I wasn't receiving the service I was promised and paying for, they simply said, there is a contract. These people are a scam.
Negative experience: Can't record myself? Ridiculous. Membership lost.
Negative experience: If could give zero stars, I would. I was taking part in the gym class yesterday, 7th March, where I positioned myself at the back of the full body tone class, in order to record myself. However, I was confronted by a gym member who had an issue with me recording myself. I informed her that she was not in frame, but she insisted in causing a scene and disrupting the entire session. I continued to record myself as I will not be bullied from recording my progress. The main issue for cancellation: After my gym session, I decided to speak to a gym staff to discuss the earlier incident as this has never happened to me before. I was told that as long as I informed the members in the room that I am filming myself, even if they are not in frame, it should be fine. Just a general courtesy. However, as I was exiting the gym, the same gym staff member I spoke with ealier, advised me that she had spoken to the deputy manager and they will be instilling a new rule that there should be absolutely no recording in the studios and a notice will be displayed immediately. I believe this is a bit drastic as I was recording myself, not the entire room. I will not pay for gym membership where I am not able to record myself. I like tracking my work out progress via video form and I feel this is not the best environment for me. I have been a member of many gyms and this has never been an issue. To clarify what I was doing in the session; Recording myself only No one one was in frame as I was positioned infront of my camera at the back of class Tracking my own progress via video. I was not recording the class I wish I had read the reviews in detail before joining this gym as the terrible reviews makes sense having been there for 6 months now Only plus why a one star is feasible is a few gym staff who actually greet you.
Negative experience: Terrible gym no consideration for freelance teachers. They sacked the well liked yoga teacher after 18 Years without any discussion. Would question whether the Ashtanga teacher is qualified to teach Ashtanga
Negative experience: Most of the machines are broken. Pool side was renovated recently , but swimsuit dryer are broken there is no alternative option. Boxing punching pad removed from main gym hall. Staff are polite. Overall not recommended for this price.
Positive experience: Tier 2 club, got old equipments.
Negative experience: Worst gym in town. Dirty, machines always broken, spa area dirty and the majority of the time not working. Terrible.
Negative experience: In need of a significant refurbishment. The pool has been shut for a week now with no clear timeline on when it will be fixed and reopened. The machines are old, many out of order or not fully functioning. Jacuzzi got removed to save costs. Most classes get booked up very quickly. Overall dissapointing.
Negative experience: By far the worst of the of the Nuffield branches and that saying something if you’ve seen Norbury. Sometimes you just want to go to the gym and everything you want use is working, well never in this one. Went today The pool was shut, the steam room was shut, the poolside showers were shut and the sauna smells. The lack of machinery when it comes to weighted ones is shocking and then on top of that there is always at least 3 machines out of order. The benches for the free weights are a disaster old and ripped. There is about 6 staff members there doing what I don’t know. You only ever see them at the front desk hanging around and don’t even bother to greet the customers. Poorest gym by a long shot, I recommend Wandsworth southside now that’s a proper gym.
Negative experience: Used to go there when it was called Virgin Active and it used to be very well maintained... Came back few years later and the standards completely dropped... and did not even bother signing up after witnessing the poor maintenance... what a shame...
Fantastic experience: Monifa's spin classes are second to none. She has bags of energy every class, motivates you to push harder even when you think you cannot, and has the most banging music!!!
Negative experience: Recently joined croydon central. Overcrowded gym, incompetent and unhelpful staff at the reception, awful app to book your classes.Dont waste your money look for a better gym that has not a big name but can offer more.
Negative experience: Awful. Has slipped in standards terribly over the last few years. Dirty, old equipment, the hot water hasn't worked for 2 months or so and there are about 20 different reception staff over last 18 months, with only 3 PTs (who are never there). It's like a revolving door of staff I am pretty sure I picked up a fungal infection and CoVid twice from there as well. I have a corporate discount and since the pandemic and working from home; I have been forced to use this dump. Absolute state of this place is terrible. Not to mention the leaky ceiling with holes in it which is literally falling on customers!!!!! Nuffield have basically decided it isn't worth the funding and are just letting it decline. Absolutely disgusting level of disregard of customers. Sent in multiple complaints with no response.
Negative experience: Not worth it at all: -you pay full price and you are not allow to use all facilities (Nuffield closed the jacuzzi down). -machines are old are often out of orders. Nuffield doesn’t really maintains their machines so you can’t be consistent with workout. -changing rooms are extremely filthy. -hot water often not working and so you cannot shower. -if you cannot shower, of course you can not swim, use sauna (which is dirty anyway), use steam-room. -air conditioning out of order since October 2022.
Fantastic experience: Thanks so much to Charmaine at the central Croydon gym reception as she was very helpful explaining everything and ensuring that I was comfortable when starting. Very friendly and therefore cannot recommend this highly enough.
Negative experience: As overpriced gym memberships go this branch of Nuffields really takes the biscuit... its so outdated and represents the dull location it is in ....... they need a serious refurbishment and update because what I see is a company who doesn't care about its customers but just about making as much money as possible. For the price you would expect more.
Negative experience: For the size of the gym there isn't enough equipment (e.g. there's only 1 power rack). Selection of machines is also limited.
Negative experience: I queried to have money returned as was unaware that I could freeze membership and was under tremendous stress during that period, and was denied. When cancelling my account I have been told that I have to pay another months full pay, even though I am just 2 days past the deadline. I know that companies can pull strings and going above and beyond for loyal customers such as myself, so I am disappointed and won't be rejoining in the future
Negative experience: Gives Nuffield a bad name. Very dirty, lots of equipment broken. Would not recommend
Negative experience: This gym isn't even open at the moment. I joined up and there is structural damage fir which the gym must remain closed and no clear indication when it will reopen. I want to cancel the membership because I'm paying for something I can't even use atm but haven't had a reply. The tram isn't running to Wimbledon so even that option is unavailable. Seems the place is poorly maintained and this latest issue is proof of that.
Negative experience: Joined Nuffield Barbican as my main gym and use this occasionally. Many of the one star reviews are accurate, little to no investment is being put into this gym by Nuffield HQ. 1. The hot water has been broken since I joined a year ago (luckily I don't have to shower there) 2. No longer provide towels after the covid rules lifted, again showing that HQ 'downgraded' this location 3. Jacuzzi was turn off because of the cost of maintenance. 4. Far too much cardio equipment and not enough functional fitness or free weights. 5. There are several leaks in the ceiling and as a solution they just put buckets in the middle of the functional fitness area. I finally arrived today and they're closed because of "structural collapse" which comes a no surprise given the ceiling has been caving in for the whole year I have been going there. I've been a member of Fitness First, Virgin, JD gyms and Nuffield. Nuffield gyms are by far the worst, the only two worth going to are City and Barbican and you have to pay a fair amount of money for the privilege.
Negative experience: One star for staff are friendly and the rest of equipment are old not in use any more and always this gym let me down jacuzzi doesn’t work and swimming I wish I go there one day everything works in order
Negative experience: There is constantly smth that doesnt work: jacuzzi has not been operating since i joined, swimming pool and hot water on and off, cycle equipment trackers dont work which is essential for the spin class, sauna is really dirty and seats are broken - boards unhinged and move when you try sit on them. In general very disappointing and unacceptable for the price they charge.
Negative experience: Unfortunately this branch is poorly maintained. I’m assuming after covid Nuffield have stopped funding and looking after this location. Completely run down, old stuttering machines, holes in walls, broken lockers and dimly lit.
Positive experience: Some improvements needed but overall a friendly gym with reasonable facilities for the price. Good central location and great pool.
Negative experience: Definitely the worst Nuffield gym I been to, what a shame as used to be such a lovely place to workout
Positive experience: I want book this place. How can I if the reviews are terrible. You real need to improve your service you have a brand as nuffield health to live up too
Negative experience: Steam room not worked for majority of the year. No hot water in the showers. Treadmills out of service. I hate to be that person but I complained to reception a lot of times. Honestly, probably one of the worst ‘premium’ gym experiences. I would genuinely say avoid at all costs.
Negative experience: Nasty overweight staff and nasty gym.
Negative experience: No water for over 4 months. Get it fixed already.
Negative experience: Overpriced, dirty gym with terrible old equipment.
Negative experience: Has so much potential to be a good gym. Lots of space but unfortunately it's full of really old cardio machines no one wants to use (I'm talking 30+ treadmills, cross trainers etc) they'd be be better off expanding free weights/functional stuff. Only one squat rack that is also the only deadlift platform...? It's also absolutely filthly. Gym floor dirty and uneven in places (dangerous!) The showers are really gross, little flies everywhere and hair not cleaned out of drains. I have never seen a cleaner. When I went to a virgin active there was always someone roaming and keeping things clean. Front desk staff unhelpful, ive mentioned the conditioner dispensers being blocked three times (all of them) and it's obvious no one cares. Aircon finally fixed after months but now repeated problems with hot water. No option to even pay to have towels included. Overall puts it in budget gym territory despite the price.
Negative experience: I'm that person who never left bad comments because I might be the only person, who experience tha poor service. I'm try to be positive. But enough is enough. I'm with Nuffield Health gym is already for 4 years. And for the last year I do not enjoy services and people who are working in there. when you enter the hall, the first person you see will be the receptionist, if you ever see him at workplace. it is very rare that someone will say hello to you because they are mostly busy talking to each other or simply ignoring the visitors. if you need to find out something from them, they basically say to call on the phone and sort out the problem themselves. only one lady from the reception will serve you at a high level and always are very friendly, although I have not seen her lately. then you go down the stairs and feel that you do not have enough air, as the ventilation system has been faulty for a long time. The cleanliness of this room is questionable. in this hall there are several wonderful instructors who are the only source of good mood. but, unfortunately, not all. It shouldn't surprise you if you showed up to the gym, given that you booked up early and weren't allowed in because you were 5 minutes late. you will be told very rudely to come out. there are a lot of exercise machines in the sports center itself, but you can often notice that they are out of order or very old. Summing up, if you want to find a gym, then for the same money you should look at other options. It's a pity that the service has dropped significantly over the past year. But these problems mentioned above can be solved. but they probably don't need it. I hope my comment was helpful to both as new potential clients and Nuffield Health gym managers.
Negative experience: So I have just forked out £800 for a yearly commitment to this gym and already I am feeling a little bit frustrated. The state owned gym I previously went to had better equipment. The older equipment they do have is often broken or squeaking when you use it. The jacuzzi has been broken since I have joined. The lockers seem not secure with many of the lockers have the broken bottom latch unsecured. The staff at the gym seem nice but the upper management at Nuffield HQ are quite obviously letting them down. Sort it out! I won’t join next year and advise others to not make the same mistake as me.
Negative experience: Avoid this place always something broked special the jacuzzi no service the shower is dirty
Positive experience: Great leisure centre. Pool and jacuzzi really nice and relaxing. Highly recommend.
Fantastic experience: Great Club. Very friendly staff. Would recommend to my friends and family.
Negative experience: Boiler was broken. No hot water. Spa Jacuzzi area broken for months. Equipments are outdated. Facilities going downhill, not Nuffield standard club. Not worth it at all. Have shared feedback on issues, they have just ignored members.
Fantastic experience: The staff here are impeccable! The tour from James was thoroughly enjoyable, I ABSOLUTELY would recommend this Gym, I am always greeted with a warm welcome - Kay is the receptionist I see most of the time and she is so lovely ... I am very happy I joined this gym and can’t wait for the Jacuzzi to be up and running!
Fantastic experience: The staff here are amazing, I was greeted by a lovely mixed race receptionist today, she went above and beyond to help me! This is very rare.. I must say it makes all the difference being greeted with a smile and with people who seem genuinely interested in your wellbeing. I will be spreading the word of the lovely experience I’ve had here, I’m really happy I decided to join this gym!
Positive experience: Ok
Negative experience: This gym is terrible and doesn't represent Nuffield Health across London well. The staff are rude and the facilities are dated and not very clean. The showers doesn't have hot or quite warm water and the locker room is horrible very dated, they don't even give you lockers to use like Nuffield Colonnades. I will not be returning to this Nuffield, terrible experience
Negative experience: Just came off the phone from trying to make a booking and spoke with a young woman named Jessica. Fortunately, I have never spoken with any Nuffield staff member who has been so rude. Complete lack of interest in what I was saying, asked that I repeat myself several times because her attention was clearly not on the conversation. By no means could I ever be accused of being the ettiquette police, however this staff members attitude and tone has assured me that moving to the Bromley branch was the best decision I have made since lock down ended. Needless to say, I did not even get as far as asking for last minute swim availability.
Positive experience: Just a bit tired, seems like old kit comes here from other locations. The main draw is the pool, jacuzzi and sauna, but these are just a bit dirty. Swimming with goggles on you get to see all the crud on the bottom of the pool, and you feel it under your feet in the jacuzzi. Showers are really grim and dispensers always empty. Just get the sense that the staff aren’t on top of it, or don’t care enough. You pay a hefty premium for the pool, which looks good on paper but is a bit of a let down.
Fantastic experience: Great to be able to be back in the gym. Very clean and tidy. Staff are very helpful and friendly. Also great to be back with my PT Connor
Hi Jack, great to welcome you back, hope you're enjoying it. Thanks for the great review. The Nuffield Health Croydon Fitness & Wellbeing Team.
Positive experience: Overall, I do think this is a good fitness centre for the money - the variety of classes is great and all the instructors I’ve had are fantastic. The pool and sauna area is lovely and tranquil, plus, you can always get on machines in the gym itself. My reason for giving 4 and not 5 stars is that some areas are a little tired and can do with updating e.g. the changing rooms feel old and some of the gym machines could do with being replaced.
Hiya Rachael, thanks for the feedback and positive rating. Points of improvement have been noted and will be shared with out operations team. Best Wishes, the Croydon Central Fitness and Wellbeing Centre
Positive experience: Been with this gym on and off for three years. Staff overall friendly but they’re so keen to get you to sign up that they treat you differently as soon as you’re a member. I’ve been complaining about the connectivity to the TVs on all the machines for over three years and still hasn’t been fixed. I get called regularly by their managers etc to say it’ll be looked at and never is. The pool and changing rooms are usually clean and pleasant. Classes are good and there are some great PTs. Wouldn’t say they’re in fair competition with pure gym however value wise. They say they close at 10:30pm but I’ve been turned away at 9 before.
Fantastic experience: Very very friendly atmosphere with really lovely staff
Negative experience: Not worth the money! My main issue is that it seems to be aimed at people doing classes and private PT sessions and not necessarily for those who just want to do their own thing. The classes on the gym floor are extremely frustrating as there is not much space as it is. The same situation in the pool - during the class (pretty much every week day during the peak times) there is only one lane available for those who want to do independent swimming. Which is very frustrating as it is the main attraction for this gym.. Equipment Worn out and very limited selection. No bands, only few ripped barbell pads and smaller weights often get used in the classes rather than on gym floor. Facilities Bit tired changing rooms, but all fine otherwise. Staff Friendly but I feel that they are there only to prospect and people who are doing exercises incorrectly don't really get told about it. Overall, average gym with the premium price.
Positive experience: You should consider replacing some of the equipment
Positive experience: I like this gym. The gym is small but not claustrophobic. I like the fact that they have a hack squat machine.
Positive experience: Great club, great staff... Love their pool but their free weights are can use some tlc
Positive experience: A lovely pool, with steps for those who can't manage ladders.
Fantastic experience: Great staff and classes!
Positive experience: Having Physio sessions there for my knees, Lucy is a great physio!
Negative experience: I didn't like this gym at all, it's dull and it seems a bit old.
Fantastic experience: Great friendly staff
Negative experience: Naff dirty changing rooms only put a star as I have to .... if I could give minus stars I would
Negative experience: Rude unhelpful reception staff. Lots of out of order equipment. Desperately needs redecorating
Positive experience: Nicer than my local Nuffield in norbury. Very nice facilities and everything looks newly refurbished. Staff are also very friendly and helpful.
Negative experience: No hot water in the shower, steam room cold, dirty Jacuzzi. I`ve got cold after visiting yesterday((( Very disappointing..just started my membership..
Negative experience: No shampoo or conditioner mostly in the men changing rooms. The timetable of classes is scarce. The air con is not or nearly never working. There is only one microphone shared between studio 1 and the RPM room. A lot of money a month for a very poor service. Virgin were doing a better job when they were running that gym.
Fantastic experience: Best Nuffield health I've been to as the Staff are fantastic, equipment in abundance and I have no issue every time I go here. There is a swimming pool and saunas also.
Positive experience: I love this gym steam room pool.Loads of classes
Positive experience: Good gym
Negative experience: As previously mentioned, no air conditioning at the moment; soap / conditioner in the men's shower room never filled up (ongoing for months now) - lockers are left filthy and steam room often out of order (and rather cold too). There are much better gyms available in this price range - a shame, as it's got a great location, but the staff need to sort out these issues in order to justify the membership charges.
Negative experience: Getting worse and worse. Dirty, showers often cold, 40% of tools are faulty, staff very rude. Don't subscribe to this gym until they start to give value to our money!
Negative experience: This is a terrible gym that at times is downright dangerous to train in. The last few times I've attended the a/c has not been working, which is an accident waiting to happen - eventually someone will pass out from the heat or suffer from sone kind of slippage from sweat. I make no apologies for using copious amounts of talc and chalk to safely complete training. Inevitably some powder gets onto the floor - this provides evidence that rhe floors are never cleaned -between Saturday morning and Tuesday evening the floors were not even swept let alone mopped. The kit is outdated and in short supply (only one fixed squat rack). There's only one decent barbell. The members never tidy away their plates/bars (quite often the trainers don't either). The soap dispensers in the showers are often left unfilled, meaning you have to check multiple before being able to get clean. Overall this is a terrible facility that fails to take advantage of its excellent location. Maintenance needs to be undertaken and staff need to do the jobs they're paid for or let go to reduce membership costs.
Positive experience: Great gym in the heart of Croydon. Plenty of machines, no waiting and a good selection of classes. The pool is an added benefit, something that other gyms locally can't match. Would like to see more classes focused around the pool, as it seems empty most of the time. Two bad things; The WiFi is pretty much non-existent.....no signal at all when using any of the machines. Second thing is that there are plenty of TV screens you can watch while exercising or you could if the WiFi was working. The problem is that 2 of them are always sport, 1 is music videos and the other one is adverts for Sky Movies that is on a 30 second continuous loop. A lost opportunity here! Why not put on Fitness Videos or Bodybuilding or tips on health that could inspire while you exercise. Even some motivational life coaching stuff on a 1 hour loop would be a huge improvement. With Pure Gym opened just 100 meters away, now more than ever it needs to be different and needs a good reason to justify £60 a month.
Fantastic experience: Really friendly staff
Fantastic experience: This is a fantastic gym. I used to be at David Lloyd and am really happy I have moved to Nuffield Central Croydon. Open plan gym with great staff, lovely pool and sauna and the classes are popular and well done. Would recommend this gym!
Negative experience: Broken lockers, lot of equipment often out of order. After the gym has been rebranded, apart from changing the name and some stickers, they haven't fix anything but left it in the bad condition it was.
Fantastic experience: I go to the gym to keep fit and loose weight. Well all I can say is all the instructors here are excellent. Especially Marina and Angie...so full of energy and enthusiasm. I've lost 5 stones in the past year by coming here every week consistently and following advice from the instructors. With a combination of support from the pilates, body pump, acqua, zumba and cycling /RPM instructors (who are all different - but I mention them only because I love these classes) my diet has changed for the better hopefully for life..and I'm over half a century young. I'm sure the other instructors are just as brilliant and committed . I wouldn't swap any of them. I go to Norbury and the other Croydon gym too but only because of the class times and my convenience. Yes things need repairing but that's because we use the stuff!! Never put your car or boiler in for service..and how many people use your car or boiler compared to the gym...ahaa..ca' ching. Enjoy!
It's wonderful to hear how well you have done over the past year. Thank you for this feedback and your 5* rating. Kind regards, Nuffield Health Croydon Central Fitness & Wellbeing Gym.
Positive experience: Update September 2017. Definitely improved, though I rarely use the showers and Jacuzzi often put of service. Fortunately staff are amazing and will do whatever they can to help you. Lots of new gym equipment and upgrades which is very encouraging. 3.5 stars :) Previously owned by Virgin who failed to maintain standards prior to handover to Nuffield. Nuffield still haven't resolved the issues re: boilers (cold showers etc), closing down the pool/jacuzzi which members pay a premium for. Despite issues for over a year both owners have refused to compensate members for the inadequate facilities. This includes a week of closure due to a pipe bursting...which wasn't water but sewage. They cleaned it thoroughly but I always recommend people go elsewhere and for not join this gym. 2stars

Negative experience: Overpriced. Dirty. Facilities always out of order/broken. Will end my contracts next week.
