Fantastic experience: Great place.staff are very helpful and friendly

Negative experience: Used to be 4 stars but now 1 maybe 2 max. So 41 mens lockers taken with a TOTAL of 10 men in the gym including classes, I counted. I could only use the lower lockers that no one likes to use. Scum bags use the lockers as their own personal lockers and leave their stuff in. I spoke to the gym management, they don't care. All they need to do is after the gym is closed put another padlock on the lockers left with padlocks forcing these arrogant twats to go to reception when they're next in, that'd stop people doing this, but the management simply can't be bothered. This is why I'm leaving a review instead of contacting them again, as there is zero point in complaining about anything in the gym, as they simply could not possibly care less. People videoing themselves with tripods, you don't know where to walk there's always some mug videoing themselves for youtube. Management says they don't have a policy against it, so they just allow it. Let's see the copy and paste 'you are important to us...we take seriously...please contact' reply

Negative experience: The swimming pool area is kept at a temperature above 25°C in the air, with the water temperature reaching 30°C. This creates a very uncomfortable environment, particularly for fast swimmers who struggle with the heat. The high temperature is not only unpleasant but also potentially dangerous, especially for older individuals, as it can cause overheating or dehydration. It seems that the pool maintains this temperature mainly for children, making it unsuitable for adult swimmers seeking a more comfortable and safe experience. For those looking to swim seriously or exercise, this environment is far from ideal.

Positive experience: I am regular there, great staff, laid back atmosphere which I like !

Fantastic experience: Gyms been recently upgraded, with equipment being upgraded. New air con, new floors, new speakers, WiFi and lighting in studios. Defiantly showing improvement from before.

Negative experience: Nuffield claim to be a “charity” and can’t do this and that because we’re a “charity”. Whilst the CEO got £1.2 millions pounds salary, they have cut towel service and the gym stinks and needs a FULL refurb. They are such cheapskates. They can easily make it the same level as David Lloyd but they are greedy.

Negative experience: Very rude staff and unprofessional service from the reception and personal trainers. Must of them don’t care they are always on their phone. The cleaner is very rude and disrespectful always leaving toilets and showers dirty. lots of equipment does not work, 4 out of order it’s been 2 month yet still not fixed. the shower really smells have dirt everywhere. Must of the staff they just talk and using there phones. I would not recommend this gym if I can give it zero stars I would give you a -0 star.

Negative experience: No aircon

Negative experience: It's a very outdated gym and needs a massive upgrade to compete with nearby gyms. The other problem this gym has is that non of their CCTV camera ever seem to work! People scratch your vehicle while it's parked in the car park which is quite sad as no one is aware who has done it as the CCTV camera don't operate. Please be careful when leaving your car in their car park specially during MATCH DAYS!

Negative experience: As someone who values quality fitness facilities, I was deeply disappointed by my recent visit to Nuffield gym in Twickenham. Despite its reputation as a higher-class gym, the reality couldn't have been further from the truth. Upon entering the gym, I was immediately struck by the outdated and tired appearance of the facilities. The equipment seemed ancient and poorly maintained, with several machines out of order and in desperate need of repair. Not only did this affect the functionality of my workout, but it also raised concerns about hygiene and safety. The atmosphere inside the gym was equally dismal. Far from the vibrant and motivating environment one would expect from a reputable fitness establishment, Nuffield Twickenham felt dull, dreary, and devoid of any sense of energy or enthusiasm. It was clear that little effort had been made to create a welcoming and inspiring space for members. To make matters worse, the cleanliness of the gym left much to be desired. Sweat-stained equipment, dusty surfaces, and unkempt locker rooms only added to the overall sense of neglect and disarray. It was evident that hygiene standards were not being upheld to the level expected from a facility of this caliber. After enduring just 15 minutes of this subpar experience, I made the decision to cut my workout short and leave the premises. Frankly, I wouldn't even consider paying £10 a month for access to such a dismal gym, let alone the premium rates that Nuffield charges. In conclusion, my visit to Nuffield gym in Twickenham was nothing short of disappointing. From the outdated facilities to the lackluster atmosphere and poor cleanliness standards, it fell far short of my expectations for a higher-class gym. Unless significant improvements are made, I cannot in good conscience recommend this establishment to anyone seeking a quality fitness experience.

Negative experience: Really disappointed with this gym, particularly considering the monthly cost! The facilities and equipment are very run down and not kept clean. The cleaning team spend most their time on the phone rather than working (I visited the gym at various time throughout the day and it was always the same). When I wrote to the manager regarding this I was completely disregarded. Honestly better going to a pure gym.

Positive experience: A decent gym with friendly staff, excellent PTs and is generally pretty clean. Great to also have access to classes, squash courts and pool within one cost.

Negative experience: It's a pretty small gym and can get quite crowded fast. The equipment is so old, and the plates are mismatched like they were picked up in a car boot sale.

Fantastic experience: Good gym with all the equipment you need. Maybe it’s because I tend to go in the evenings but it’s quite spacious to me (the cardio room upstairs is lovely)

Negative experience: This Nuffield Health location is one of the worst I've ever visited. The elliptical cardio machines are in terrible condition and haven't been updated since the new management took over from the previous franchise. It's truly disappointing and unacceptable.

Negative experience: Have been a member for over ten years and sadly, have seen quality of maintenance decline. Staff are friendly and personal trainers are excellent. However, my biggest issue is with the air conditioning. This is the 2nd summer where it has not been working properly which negatively impacts any visit. Virtually no AC in reception and really only one area of the gym where there is any feeling of cooler temperatures. Rates have gone up with cost of living as the rationale but surely that means facilities including AC should be maintained to the highest standard. A chat with on site manager revealed that recent maintenance plans did not include any review of AC. I’m assuming, therefore, that this is not a priority for Nuffield which suggests that there is very little concern for the standards of facilities in this gym or for the comfort of its members. Hardly consistent with the ethos of a “health” organisation.

Negative experience: Very complicated and costrophobic gym

Negative experience: I recently left Virgin Active in Twickenham to join Nuffield. I went in today and and was told that Nuffield has stopped providing Towels because of COVID. This was rather frustrating for me as i am paying premium prices for convenience otherwise i would have simply just joined a lower-end gym. To the management team, why have you stopped providing towels when all other gyms of your calibre provide towels to customers? If it is to cut costs then shouldn't the membership fees also reflect the reduced service?

Negative experience: Mediocre gym overall. People sat around chatting not addressing issues if they come up. Some of the machines aren't functioning and they don't get fixed after staff is told. Few instances of poor behavior in the pool and staff does nothing after they are told. Spend your money on a better gym. To clarify, staff is all friendly, but I don't think management is taking the reigns to make sure this place runs smoothly.

Negative experience: Excellent class instructors, reception staff trying to help but, at a site noted for its patchy provision of kit for classes, the latest decision (by HQ, we're told) to stop providing paper towels in the studios is unacceptable. What's so difficult about providing such a basic class essential? Surely Nuffield central can do better than this. Anne Cameron

Fantastic experience: Good no nonsense gym, with enough machines, weights and studio space. Not the best appointed, but clean with staff that are helpful and friendly.

Negative experience: The club was dirty and the gym was old and cramped. Definitely not worth the money they try to charge you. In this area you can find health clubs with better service for less money.

Negative experience: Good size gym, but severely outdated and in need of a deep professional clean. The treadmills are filthy and the window frames are horrendous. Even the radiator is covered in brown staining. The Management here, have clearly given up!.

Positive experience: Classes are overrun, I turned up to a class to find my place had been taken, apparently no way of knowing who took it because there's no register. Why pre-book classes when anyone can walk in and take your place? Male changing rooms are not cleaned regularly. Not the worst gym, the staff are friendly

Negative experience: Note: We moved out of Twickenham at the end of 2022 so we can no longer monitor the club directly, only via friends. I'm not deleting this review to keep as a reference. Also, in February 2023, many years after I started writing this review, the new club manager finally decided to respond saying they are reviewing the points raised, so hopefully things will improve from now on. BEST: Friendly staff, good changing rooms, showers are powerful, pool is smallish but pleasant and bright, sauna in changing room, shared steam room is constantly hot and steamy. WORST: Gym is below par. Critical lack of space means things are cramped, in particular near mats. Ceilings are low. We seem to only get old equipment left over by more modern branches upgrading. CLASSES: Good variety. They can attract the best teachers, but unfortunately they often leave because of low wages. Some Yoga/Pilates teachers are the best but some are the worse (cue for management, check attendance records). Since lockdown classes are fewer, shorter (too short for Pilates/Yoga) and some good teachers are gone. The booking system (not specific to Twick.) is frustrating because being able to book 8 days in advance mean people tend to book as a habit and the forget to cancel, leaving classes with empty spaces. Attendance lists are not reviewed so things don't improve. Booking only a few days before classes (as it used to) would resolve the problem. Prices are fairly high for the standard you get, making NT not great value compared to competition. SUGGESTION: Could you offer a membership option with "bring your own towel" in exchange for a discount? That would help people on a budget and those concerned about the environment impact. UPDATES: - Spring 2019: we made such fuss about the yoga teacher that they finally agreed to give the teacher a small rise. We had 1 week without warm water. - Summer 2019: 4 days without hot water. 2 days without towel. New low tech equipment. New wipe dispensers everywhere, great for hygiene, not so for environment. Some machines keep changing location, which seems futile. Staff still great. - Autumn 2019: More towels woes. Hoping the new studio coordinator will dynamise classes. More and more people crowding the small gym space, increasing waiting and safety risks. Why not using the large room where the cafe used to be? Putting a few mats, rollers, light weights would ease congestion downstairs. - Winter 2019: still no studio coordinator, so over Xmas several of the few remaining classes weren't covered. - February 2020: The newly appointed studio coordinator seems on the ball. She has arranged a deep clean of the studios, a new survey to evaluate possible improvements, and has so far organised a good cover of teachers. - May 2021: Time for me to leave Nuffield Twickenham. Some of the best teachers are gone, the classes are now too short, and not at convenient times for home working. Shame they haven't used the lockdowns to expand the fitness space, such as to the old café. With all the new cheap gyms around I fear Nuffield Twickenham are going to see a mass exodus, until they do some serious refurbishment/rethinking. My wife is still going so I get updates through her and nothing seems to have dramatically changed. Classes are back to a decent length. Some teachers are great, others not so. - Dec 2022: We're moving away from Twickenham. We'll probably hear club news from friends. - Feb 2023: The manager has finally responded and promise they will review all the points so that's a good start.

Negative experience: Terrible gym with very poor standards. The equipment it’s very old and rusty, the treadmills are constantly out of order and just 3 treadmills available. The receptionists aren’t welcoming at all and always minding their business. The classes are awful, no welcoming at all the equipment is prehistoric and the room temperature is below 0. The sauna is always occupied by items such as pair of boots, pants, towels and other personal items left there to get dry. The showers are absolutely disgusting with green mould and very old. The cleaning always gossiping loudly in the women changing rooms while you’re having sauna they loudly chat in Brazilian and also the Portuguese receptionist participates to the party every single time. I would expect something more from a gym that asks more than £70 monthly membership. I am so disgusted by this gym and I am going to come back to Pure Gym in Twickenham.

Negative experience: Shame on me joining this club. Filthy, smelly and dirty male changing rooms. The gym seems from a Rocky movie about 1980s. Old feel and the machines are too close to each other. Your training the abs and you smell the sweat of the person next to you working out their legs. The only thing I appreciate is that the pool is generally quiet.

Negative experience: Do NOT join this health centre ! The bathroom and toilets are filthy and are never cleaned. The weights and machines are old and not updated and the manager Alistair Argenti is surprisingly egotistical. I feel like I’ve been thrown into 1998 every time I walk into the place. The sauna never works and the steam room is littered with trash everytime I go in there. Worst Nuffield health ever

Negative experience: As a couple we joined kingston nuffied After couple of visits we decided to cancel our membership. Long story short we contacted them by phone, emails even attending club in person and try to make sure cancellation has gone through and club manager and assistant manager verbally assured us the cancellation is finalised, cancelled my partner’s membership but not mine and still been charged for month of August and September.

Negative experience: This Gym is awful and everyday making everyone leave 30 minutes early before closing time.

Negative experience: Sauna never worked for more than a day since i joined 2 months ago. The aircon stopped working as soon as the heat started. The equipment is old and beaten down. Nuffield is unwilling to invest to bring the place back to speck.

Fantastic experience: Always a smile when you walk in and always great advice on my training when I need it . I've been going here for 7 years or so. My individual workout needs are particular from month to month which requires a gym that can cope with high individual demands (which they do with aplomb) . If you take your health seriously and want to feel you have a partner who's in it with you then look no further.

Negative experience: The gym itself is looking very tired and nearly all the equipment is old/dated. Looks like there has been no investment in new kit for a long, long time. It's worlds away from any of the other Nuffield's I've been to in terms of size and quality. Staff are very nice though and the classes seem good.

Positive experience: Nice local gym but for a terrible experience by the yoga instructor Mariam who kicked me to tell me my feet were in the wrong position! I hear Mariam has called people names and kicked many others, if the management can’t get rid of her there is something very wrong.

Negative experience: Over priced Drug dealing in the car park, changing rooms and toilets are always dirty, reception staff useless, and wouldn't lend a towel for a child who had swimming lessons.

Positive experience: I only used this gym once on a free day pass to check it out. I used the gym, pool and sauna. It’s a good gym with most of the equipment I wanted. Overall I feel this is a good centre, however for me I felt the monthly cost was too high and I would not make use of the squash courts available.

Negative experience: COULD DO A LOT BETTER. I've been a member here on and off for 5 years or so, since before they had the refurb whenever that was, I forget. Anyway it's not bad value but there are some bad points. Staff - Most but not all the front desk staff are not very welcoming (try going in an hour before they close and you'll get daggers) they seem to have their little clique of people they like to be nice to (defo not me!) but I have pretty much always had a frosty/nonchalant reception whenever I go, both from the girls and the boys, I have to say the girls are the worst offenders tho. As I said there are and have been 1 or 2 exceptions over the years those that smile and say hello goodbye thanks etc.. there is one such girl there currently the rest are guilty as above imo. Equipment - Most of the leather pads on the machines have now been patched up because they were all spitting, which is fine, however there are a few machines still with tatty split padding, both the Leg Curl machines still need attention and some of the free-weight benches are ready for the skip.. this level of decay is inexcusable in any gym of this calibre. Equipment/Weights are often left strewn about all over the place hardly anyone ever puts things back where they found them. The staff need to clamp down on this more there are many customers that think their mums will come round and tidy up after them. More warnings should be given. Cleanliness - Often there is nothing to wipe the equipment down with, blue paper dispensers half the time never have anything in them and/or antibac spray goes missing. There are only two dispensers and two sprays plus I NEVER see gym staff clean ANY equipment EVER. Yes I know people are supposed to do that but they don't. Some of the toilets and sinks in the changing rooms can be pretty horrific if you catch them at the wrong time but generally the changing rooms are mostly not bad. Dead lifters - These guys imo ruin it for the rest of us, there is often some bloke giving it the large on the deadlift platform repeatedly screaming and then dropping the weights from a height. Even with your headphones in and the music up loud you can't block it out, this repeated noise intrusion often ruins my workout. Yes I know it's a gym not a library and all that rubbish but when there's two guys doing 5+ sets each of 10 reps it does your head in!!! I suggest either move it to another part of the building get rid of it entirely, put some decent pads down or have a no drop rule - Strong enough to pick it up you should be strong enough to put it down again!!!!!!!! Busy - It can get very busy to the point sometimes I walk in and do an immediate 180 and go home, it's a small place and pretty unbearable when full. Choose your timing wisely. If it weren’t so convenient for me I wouldn’t go here but that coupled with a medium price point means I endure it… for now. If they could sort out the points above (I accept there’s not much that can be done about busy periods) then I would have to give it 4-5 stars as it is though I’m afraid it’s only 2 from me.

Negative experience: It was the worst experience ever. The pool is very small. There was only one lain that was open, others were used for private event. I only Stayed 10 minutes. There wasn't any point to stay longer. Don’t waste your time and money.

Fantastic experience: I've been a member of lots of gyms including my local London Borough. This is excellent and in my view well equipped. All the machines I need are available and working, the compimentary towels are great, even the showers are the most powerful I've used. There is ALWAYS parking which is great. Other Members, staff and managers are excellent. Members chat and I love that cosiness and friendliness, unique in my experience. My health Check was excellent and essential, with a great advisor. A friendly, local a nd spot on venue and love the sauna too. My only thought is please keep the lounge warm and have a copy of the Guardian and weekend Observer. We don't all read the Mail and Express!

Negative experience: Old gym ,the sales team are very good ,the management not so great allways the staff out from there and they was a good staff I wonder why?The ladies it is all the time very clean ,thanks to the clean staff and they supervisor ,she is an wonderful.persone always very helpful I hope she.never.gone from there ,she is the heart of the cleaning in this gym ,for her and her staff I gave 5star.

Negative experience: One of the worst services I have ever seen. I called them up and asked them for 121 swimming classes for my daughter who is three years old. They put down the details and they never ever called up to confirm the class. Very unprofessional

Fantastic experience: Helpful and knowledgeable staff, squash courts never too busy to even play ad hoc without booking, swimming pool not too busy, the lockers are very spacious, you get MOT when you start and then every 3 months to track your progress, app to pre-book your classes, free parking...very happy with everything

Negative experience: Sales team not upfront about all available membership options. Salesman tried to conceal options from me and coaxed me into a joint membership with my partner, to earn greater sales credit. Check your options with another branch before joining!

Negative experience: Awful service, quite pricy and they even tried to keep me from leaving!

Positive experience: I have been a membership for 2years. There are some gutted people who pees in the shower in the swimming cell. I could smell of pee while swimming from the running pee, disgusting!!! They should have a notification that don't pee in the shower!! go to toilet!!!! Also, some people don't take shower properly before jumping to the pool. It's very small swimming pool and it's always packed and a bit cold.

Positive experience: The staff make this place fab. Yes, its a little dated but everything I need to work out with is here. The staff keep this place beautifully clean despite silly girls deliberately throwing rubbish onto the floor. You know who you are, so grow up. Staff, ban them! Love the adult changing areas, clean showers, hot water and great parking.
