Everlast Gyms - Derby: Opinions
Positive experience: Good gym overall . Steam room closed for 3 weeks been told it will be on in a weeks time called in this morning and been told it will take another 3 weeks to sort out. i pay my membership only to use the steam room &pool ♂️
Fantastic experience: This place is great, the gym, the swimming pool and the hot room, every thing was great and well maintained. All things under one roof and it's worth every penny.
Fantastic experience: Love training here! Gym is spacious and good equipment. Staff are really nice and helpful too.
Negative experience: Left the gym due to moving, was charged to bank even after contract was cancelled. They said they would make sure it was canceled and refund the November payment. Still no refund AND THEY CHARGED ME AGAIN FOR DECEMBER
Negative experience: I’ve been a member of Everlast / DW Gym since 2019. Post pandemic, and definitely since the purchase by everlast, this gym has continued to dwindle in comparison to other offerings in Derby. There is a lack of hygiene from its members in the changing rooms, and whilst staff like Wayne do a great job in trying to mitigate this - the etiquette is appalling. Having been at this gym for 5 years now, I can hand on heart say - the only new piece of equipment added, is a hip thrust machine (albeit it’s broken most the time). There are lumps in the floor on the free weights section, so have fun walking back to your bench with dumbbells in your hand and risking rolling your ankle due to the uneven surface. And if you don’t believe me, go walk around the section where the 30-40kg dumbbells are kept and you’ll notice it straight away. Oh, and enjoy using the 34kg dumbbells (they’ve got a crack in them and feel very unstable). Most adjustable benches are so knackered, that they no longer sit flush on the ground, so when you’re pressing heavy weight, you’re having to balance the wobble ♂️. Regularly, cables are broken at this gym, and it’s been almost a month with one of the cable pulleys being out of action - making exercises like chest flys that require both sides, impossible to do with there only being two other stations which are taken. Staff members are so abject to any actual feedback to improve the gym, and given most members pay £30-35 a month for a membership, what is this actually going towards? I’d love some form of response, because honestly the only saving grace to this gym, is that it’s quiet 99% of the time - so I can train undisturbed, despite the substandard conditions.
Fantastic experience: 20 oct 2024 right now this club is spot on everything is up yo Date and working as it should, specifically the spa area, the steam room and the pool. Thank you.
Fantastic experience: Literally no idea why this gym gets a bad reputation. If you know how to train then this gym is the perfect choice for you.
Negative experience: It's floors and toilets are dirty, so much that dust and hair fly into your face. They need to do some cleaning...
Fantastic experience: Excellent gym and pool! Great price, great facilities and equipment. Prior comments don't seem to reflect the current state. I will definitely visit again.
Positive experience: Nice gym and lovely staff, lots of cardio equipment but feels like it could do with a little revamp - some things feel tired. Would be nice to see a wider range of classes and times. The showers could also do with a deep clean, always see black mould . For the price it isn't bad however other everlast gyms seem to be a lot nicer, newer and cared for (for the same price).
Negative experience: CHECK CANCELLATION PERIOD BEFORE SIGNING UP! You must notify them to ''Not Continue the contract'' for ''...no less than three calendar months before the end of the Fixed Term...''. That's just absolutely bizzare/greedy. My advice is, if you want to still sign up for the fixed-term, to immediately send a cancellation as soon as you join to avoid paying pointless extra months. The cancellation terms are very strict. On top of that, the pool area is becoming inhumanely unhygienic for the ''premium'' paycheck they ask for considering the other local prices for gyms and what they offer. Paying a premium just to come in to the pool area and find mold and peeling & cracked ceiling is unheard of! Granted it isn't easy finding a gym with a swimming pool, but that said I have had days where the chlorine levels were incorrect which caused redness/irritation on my skin too. This used to be a brilliant gym owned by DW and that is when cancellation rules were fair, the gym was upkept well, and had a working jacuzzi. All that is gone since Everlast came in, I only signed up because of what it used to be but now I'm heavily disappointed. Even the machinery, so many times the cables are either stuck or broken rendering the machine unusable for days or even weeks. Considering the limited amount of machinery this was very noticable. If main issues were dealt with in a responsible manner, or the prices were adjusted fairly (with a change to T&C's), then the gym would be at the standard a gym should be at.
Fantastic experience: Such a lovely gym. The facilities are great but the staff are absolutely amazing. Everyone's so lovely and helpful. Joey even took time out of his day to show me some of the equipment and give some advice. I really would recommend this one, especially if you're new to the gym!
Negative experience: Don't join this gym very rude staff better gym then this one in derby
Negative experience: Really bad gym don’t join! Staff are so unprofessional when you try and make a point to them about discount on a food item that you pay extra for 10% discount on they say you can’t have it at a discount price and If you try and tell them you are not happy about it they will tell you to leave and ban you for trying to make a point about your membership really bad management disgusting how the managers behave they’re like children I don’t think they’ve managed a gym before they clearly don’t know what they’re doing or how to treat customers and This is why they are losing people at this Gym it’s the managers letting the place down.
Positive experience: they force individuals into joining, good staff tho
Positive experience: Great gym generally, busy at times but can normally get a solid workout in. Staff are generally attentive but a hi or goodbye wouldn't go a miss It's screaming out for a refurbishment / new equipment, it's falling behind other local gyms that are opening. With broken equipment & not even being able to get a simple clip surely must be giving off some alarm bells. Hopefully something can be done to bring it upto the standard of other everlast gyms and I can continue my journey with a great atmosphere & equipment.
Positive experience: lots of facilities like Group Cycling, Cardia, Boxing, Swiming Pool, Steam Room, Jacuzzi etc
Positive experience: Very nice staff and always clean. However definitely need a wider range of bodybuilding equipment. Especially now, there is a lot of room for it e.g pec dec. however overall I good gym
Fantastic experience: No matter the time of day can always get a decent workout without waiting for equipment
Negative experience: rude staff
Negative experience: Unfortunately Everlast cancelled all the classes I enjoyed attending. Spin seemed to take president over any other classes. Not interested in feedback or suggestions from members. Feels tired in places and some basic things such as replacing hooks on the poolside seems to be ignored.
Negative experience: Very poor gym machines broken constantly staff idle
Fantastic experience: Great gym! Everything in working order and well maintained, not too busy and the staff are very helpful. I like the boxing area and free weights too
Positive experience: Spacious gym yet not a lot of equipment compared to other Everlast gyms. More equipment needed. friendly polite staff . Dont forget to add your reg for 2 hours extra (2 hours free) otherwise you'll get a ticket
Negative experience: Rude staff, facilities constantly broke and difficult for set up to request cancellation
Negative experience: Worst gym in derby over priced for the facilities available rude staff and make it incredibly difficult to end your membership any other gym is better than this one
Negative experience: So gym is ok, jacuzzi is broke for over 2 years now, sauna for over a month with no indication when it is going to be fixed. Everlast offered £1, yes ONE poun, for compensation because even pool did not work.
Fantastic experience: Great place to work out
Negative experience: Ethan needs to learn some professionalism. His recent actions have really left people not in a good way.
Negative experience: Awful service awful staff
Positive experience: Not bad
Positive experience: The pool was nice tryed it for a day £10. No hot tub or sauna.. I was told they don't have the money to fix it as they have spent money on gym. Don't think that is fair. Especially when you pay the same £28/£30. Month.
Negative experience: Ethan and Jordan could do with some customer service training. Great gym let down by lack of customer centric approach team. If you don’t enjoy what you do, find something you do. Corporate obligations put before customer concerns is never a good way to run a business.
Positive experience: The staff are friendly and helpful. Been going for 2 months now. Good equipment the sauna is clean and always working same for the pool. I am waiting for the day when the jacuzzi is gonna work .
Negative experience: Trust me find somewhere cheaper and somewhere you can cancel anytime 3 month notice is a absolute joke! Staff are good EVERYTHING else is pathetic swimming pool is always packed and there isn’t enough gym equipment for everyone
Fantastic experience: Sweaty workout as always
Positive experience: Been a member for several years, happy with it.
Positive experience: Do enjoy coming here but still waiting for the spa to be fixed bearing in mind that this was one of the reasons I had taken out a subscription. Some Staff are lovely, the polish cleaner is moody and racist, I was told not wet the floor too much when coming out of the shower... yes I thought the same .. duh.... Lots of parking, remember to book in your registration number if you are going to be a while. Pool is warm but very drafty near towards the changing room... freezing actually... a good size, not manned by life guards though, cctv is fitted for staff but unsure if they even get the time to look as they are always busy. Female toilets are always an issue so beware, would be useful if they put a "out of use" sign on instead of waiting for issues..
Positive experience: Cheap and clean. Equipment is pretty good. Pool small but lovely. Steam room is good. Showers and changing clean. Worth the money
Fantastic experience: Great Gym , great atmosphere , would be nice to have the Spa fixed , Mike Ashley must be a bit short of Queen lately
Positive experience: Big gym, lots of equipment so no need for queueing. Staff friendly & helpful. Only criticism is that they don't have anywhere to sit in the spa area & no sauna.
Fantastic experience: Great Gym, friendly staff and decent equipment.
Positive experience: No complaints to be fair. Plenty of equipment. Off peak times are best.
Negative experience: Too big and impersonal
Fantastic experience: Brilliant. Staff excellent.
Fantastic experience: Friendly staff, good quality equipment, lots of free parking and spacious inside. Great gym
Fantastic experience: Love this gym
Positive experience: Good gym, Great staff, very clean but they need to fix steam room and get a hyper extension bench
Fantastic experience: Clean, decent price and swimming pool
Negative experience: you need to fix the steam room sir many thanks
Positive experience: sauna not worked for along time fix it
Positive experience: Apr 2021 opening times: Monday > Thursday - Open: 6am Close: 10pm Friday - Open: 6am Close: 9pm Weekends - Open: 8am Close: 6pm
Negative experience: Firstly, it has been impossible to cancel my membership. I first cancelled it with DW Fitness (July 2020) who did not process it. And when Everlast took over I then went into the gym in October 2020 and they would not cancel it on the spot and told me to email memberships. I emailed cancellation but received nothing back however with lockdowns I hoped that this was the end. Come the first week out of lockdown (April 2021) I receive another apparent unpaid bill. This time I rang because they now had a phone number, still 40 mins on hold. I apparently did not send an email, but luckily I still had the email cancellation. Even though this was the third time of trying to leave this gym they still wanted a final payment and used no evidence and apparent gym 'freezes' as an excuse. Paid and asked for a confirmation of cancellation. Good ridden Other reasons.... Like most large gyms once they get you signed up it's job done! Little things like telling you about registering your number plate if you park longer than 2 hours otherwise you get a parking fine always helps. At peak times it is impossible to get onto the free weights or onto a bench. Covid might have changed this! There is no atmosphere and I got bored after around 2 months. This has never happened in 20 years of training. My brother came for one session and didn't bother coming back. I was told that the equipment was getting updated, which basically meant same machines but newer. Support your small local gyms, they will appreciate your business.
Positive experience: Pool was really warm and good size, bit drafty though toward changing rooms!
Fantastic experience: Yoga with Amanda was amazing
Fantastic experience: Excellent conditions
Positive experience: Great gym. Staff are very helpful.
Fantastic experience: Fantastic gym, nice staff, grrat equipment, couldn't recommend it more
Negative experience: Really disappointed with this place, unfriendly staff, don’t do their job properly. Please teach them a bit of customer service skills so they know are to deal with people.
Fantastic experience: Good
Fantastic experience: Great equipment. Always clean. Typical idiots/gym rats but they are every where, very happy with the change from the last gym I was at
Negative experience: Interacted with one member if staff and was quite rude 5 minutes in. Facilities looked average.
Fantastic experience: What an amazing gym, the best in derby !!
Fantastic experience: This is a great gym. It is always clean and there are a wide variety of classes
Fantastic experience: On my visit to DW Sport, Wyvern, Derby to purchase Football boots for my grandson I was helped by a member of staff called Nicola Smith. Nicola went above and beyond to help us, even mess uring his foot in a special machine to ensure he had exactly the right size. This information was even emailed over to me. All of the staff were friendly and helpful, but Nicola was particularly excellent and I had a really good experience. I’ll defintely be going back
Fantastic experience: As a female wanting to learn to lift and gain muscle, I've been declined PT's and made to feel uncomfortable before at other places. Had a session with Donovan today and I can't rate him enough. He pushed me but also looked after me and provided me with the knowledge I need. Absolute class man! Also Phil and William have also been great in signing me up and having great banter!
Negative experience: when you join the club, they told you that you can cancel it anytime you want(30 days notice), but they will tell you there is a minimum 12 months contract when you want to cancel it. They will tell you anything you want to hear to sign the contract. Be careful
Fantastic experience: Great gym with helpful staff :). The facilities are good and spa area for very nice.
Fantastic experience: This gym is fantastic. I have been visiting, as my usual DW fitness gym is in the South West. I have been coming to Derby every 3 weeks for my Dad’s chemo, and to visit my brother who has a chronic respiratory illness. Cally on reception is always so welcoming, and the Aqua class run by Jo and the Zumba class run by Karlana are frankly joyous. What lovely staff you have. I’m really grateful, you’ve helped me get through a tough family time. I’ll keep coming whenever I am in Derby, who knew exercise could be such fun, you all lift me. Btw the other reviewers need to get some perspective - there are great facilities and staff here. Ta me ducks
Fantastic experience: Some confusing reviews on here, especially regarding staff. I find everyone as polite and welcoming as you can find. I've been signed up around 8 months so far and never had a problem, great value for money and would highly recommend.
Positive experience: Boxing area is amazing and is on the top floor, so you hve little privacy as well, the gym is good, but sometimes is too busy to do your workout. Theu don't have all mashines which are, quite helpfull. The main problem are showers. You don't have privacy on them at all !! They should be cubicles there! That's the main reason me to leave this gym. Also soon as you finish your swimming you need to go to the showers all wet throught whole changing room, logistically should be done more smarter like in Nottingham... I'm giving 3 star, because of boxing area if not that it would be two.
Fantastic experience: I really like this gym, recent refurbishment means all the equipment is new and the decor is fresh. The opening time of 6am is excellent for the commute to work, and the gym is also located on the cycle path along the river making it ideal for stopping by on my bike.
Negative experience: Large lady with red hair on reception very rude, showers stink of sewerage, pool and Jacuzzi full of old Asian men who rudely stare at the women making them feel uncomfortable. Mould and peeling paint in changing rooms and swim area. Car park is full of litter. Gym has been done up last year but slowly slipping in to the old filth pit it used to be. Also a pain to cancel contract.
Fantastic experience: Had a party at DW Derby last night. Was a fantastic venue. Staff were all extremely helpful and very polite! If you are looking to hire a venue i would definately recommend them!! Thank you so much
Negative experience: Don't waste your money go else were staff are very rude
Positive experience: Good place to play football, but a little bit too expensive.
Fantastic experience: Excellent service for what you pay. Staff are very friendly. Nice and clean
Positive experience: On the whole you get value for money, especially if you pay yearly as you get two months free. Everything is new at present. Showers now have heating controls, which is much better. The place is generally kept clean. There is a nice little cafe area with basic, but adequate food and posh cofee. If you have a coffee with a meal it near doubles the price. You can use all DW gyms on your local membership. Most members are friendly. Conversely, one or two gm bullies claim to have rights to particular spots or equipment in classes, i.e spin bikes. They don't. You might need to stand up for yourself. There are a few other issues. YOU need, to ensure that you get all you are entitled too. If you earn an extra free month by recommending a friend etc, it might not be added on, so check and insist. If you change from monthly membership to yearly membership or indeed decide to leave, stop the direct debit at your bank YOURSELF or they will continue to take payments, no matter what they say. There is at least one brand new locker where it is near impossible to get the key out of the lock. They have a lift for people with disabilities into the pool area, which is good, but then don't have enough hooks in the pool area for towels etc, so bags get left in the way of the lift exit, which defeats the object. There are some common responses staff make, All membership deals, according to staff, are finishing today. Anything missing or needs repairing from the gym is always 'on order', like the pegs for the swimming pool. I sometimes get the feeling of having the proverbial wool pulled over my eyes. On the whole the big picture is good, but attention to detail lets it down. I am, in the end, still a member and intend to stay as such, so perhaps that is the best recommendation. Adding this 3 weeks after my initial review. I was missing a months mebership from last years contract as they did not add on the advertised free month for recommending a friend who then joined. I only rejoined this year on the understanding that the free month would be added on to my new membership, even confirming the dates. Guess what, it hasn't been, so they have taken my money under false pretences and I think thereby broken the consumer credit act. What seems to happen is that local mangers solve problems and then the national management change their decisions. What is particularly irritating is that they don't even tell you that they have done this. They just hope you won't notice and pay up when they ask. So, check everything twice and watch out for sligh underhand contract changes. Put it in YOUR diary as to when contracts end. National management will get as much of your money as they can and as often as they can. This is currently spoiling my enjoyment of the gym as I just seeth all the while I am there. I am thinking of leaving and claiming my money back through my credit card.
Fantastic experience: Great gym has all the equipment you need, also has a pool and steam for after your work out to relax, highly recommended
Negative experience: customer service is absolutely terrible. multiple times I've tried ringing and not been seen to for at least 20 mins.
Negative experience: Awful staff nothing like another place
Positive experience: I don't understand many of the reviews as my experience is quite different. There are elements of truth in some comments but I have always found the staff helpful and polite. I wonder if some of these reviews are written by those expecting more of a spa experience. If this is the case then yes, DW is not for you. I find the gym not perfect but very good value. I appreciate things like the attention to detail in the pool area. I have hardly ever been in the steam room for more than a few minutes without a member of staff doing a check to see if everyone is OK. I have been a member for around 3 years all told and I am very satisfied and will continue to enjoy my membership.
Positive experience: Joined this gym 3 months ago the staff are extremely rude , wasn't shown around wasn't advised in what equipment to use and wasn't shown how to use the equipment, but I have signed to a contract now so don't have no choice. Had i have known all this before I signed I would of never have done it.
Negative experience: I do not recommend this gym the staff are very rude and they just rob you're money.
Positive experience: Gym equipment is pretty good, pool is good but needs slightly updating but overall quite happy
Fantastic experience: Rah tasty sweaty men in the gym also rah tasty kids playing football 69/10 would not go again as I got told I was not rah tasty
Negative experience: Gym ok not too busy. Needs a refurb and changing areas are really dirty.
Negative experience: Thieves !!!!! not let you unsubscribe and debts without knowing
Negative experience: Generally ok gym facilities. Staff ok. Showers and jacuzzi / steam room regularly broke / did not working. Really difficult to quit / freeze account as cannot do this at the gym but need to do it over the phone and was on hold for ages on a few occasions... Now I'm bombarded with texts to re join for cheaper!!???
Negative experience: Not even worth a star. Place is that crap I had a membership for a year and went about 3 times. Paid nearly £40 a month, the theives took 14 payments then passed my details onto a Debt Collection Agency saying I owe £90 to them for cancelling my Direct Debit at the end of the contract, they then put me in a new contract I hadn't agreed to. Go swivel DW- won't be getting another penny off me. absolutely disgusting.
Negative experience: Didn't use gym, but had booked in for aqua Aerobics. Had problems with most lockers; had to get membership card hole punched to use them too. Not exactly wheelchair friendly with the amount of steps everywhere. You can only park for 2 hours. Lighting didn't work in the showers, and the private change cubicles. The Aqua routine wasn't engaging, and ended up leaving group halfway through. Pool tiles were coming off, and the pool looked dirty. The jacuzzi was as cold as the pool (freezing). The whole place needs majorly updating. Felt like I was in a school pool. Will not be going back to this, but will stick to my normal gym.
Negative experience: DISABLED WARRIORS NOT WELCOME HERE A member of 4 years who is a wheel chair user and has one leg and severe rheumatoid arthritis was advised that the broken lift which enabled her to get to the pool would NOT be repaired as she is the only disabled member of the club. Further she was asked when she would get better!! In addition the facilities for showering mean that there is either no shower head, a broken seat or no light bulb. She is having to crawl on hands and knee to use the facilities as her friends go there and there is a great Aqua instructor - absolutely disgraceful She is trying to be in the best physical state she can and also spend time with friends which help her morale enormously. Let's hope no staff member or management at Dw ever have an accident or have an illness threatening their abilities to use normal facilities - totally disgraceful Maybe they should rename it Disabled Warriors not Welcome.
Negative experience: Awful service and 1 member of staff very rude!!!@
Negative experience: Awful staff, awful service
Negative experience: Horrible place, not great staff and horrible attitudes. 8 indoor football pitches at £35 an hour. Not too expensive but then not in great condition and never maintained. Let's take 4 of them out and put trampolines in and then charge £70 an hour for football because DCFC train there. Poor attitude to general footballers and teams and will hopefully get no use. Never again
Negative experience: I came here once and I'm not going to make this mistake again. The place was nice, but the hygiene was low, there's noone to get the equipment clean or to change the towels. The bathrooms had this strange smell. Not good of course.
