Services, Machines and Guided Classes
PureGym London Stratford: Opinions
Negative experience: This gym has good potential, but several major issues hold it back. As many reviews have already pointed out, the cleanliness of the changing rooms—especially the toilets—is shocking. By 3 PM, the female changing room is already filthy, with dirt, rubbish, and toilet paper scattered everywhere. Worse, there are almost never toilet rolls or hand soap available and the hygene bins are constantly full. Using the toilets here is genuinely SCARY and a hygene hazard. Secondly, the way they handle classes is HORRENDOUS. Many of the PT running the classes look like they hate being there, which kills the energy of the session. A couple of them are great, but they are the exception. Also, only the evening classes run smoothly. If you book a class during the day, it is a gamble whether it willa actually happen. This happened to me THREE times. - One morning, a PT simply did not showed up. When I found the manager and asked why no one was int he studio, they were completely unaware that their own employee had skipped work. - Second time, again no PT. After informing the manager, she had to personally go find the trainer - who was casually chatting int he staff room and showed up 15 mins late to the class. - Around 5 PM, the PT walked into the studio, saw people stretching on their own, and instead of organizing the class by saying 'who is here for the class get ready, everyone else please leave' as they usually do, just left without saying a word—effectively dodging 45 minutes of work. This is not acceptable. PT are not doing us a favour by running classes - we pay for these sessions. If they don't like it, they are free to pursue a career in dog grooming instead. The manager being totally unaware of the situation it is also concerning. What is your role if not manking sure that the gym is running how it should? How can you not know and not notice if one of your employee is not showing up for work or if a class is not running? Please do better y'all. We pay for the service and we travel to get there, and when you are faced with these issues it is so frustrating and disappointing.

Negative experience: The gym areas are okay, but the female changing room always stinks (the smell of an unclean loo), and there has been always no toilet roll on a Sunday

Negative experience: This gym is a 5* gym - the trainers are friendly and attentive and have a broad range of classes that I’ve been attending for 2 years. They are creative, varied and engaging. However I now need to rate this a 0* because what PureGym head office is doing is horrendous! The members pay more than enough combined for you to have a music licence and nobody wants to attend the uniform lifeless classes that are being enforced with the terrible PureGym music. Please SAVE the gym and reverse this or I’ll be leaving the day it comes into affect as will many other members that have discussed it (Response: Member here telling you that unfortunately it isn’t motivating and it’s having the opposite effect - what’s the metric used to determine that it is motivating and who has told you it is?)

Positive experience: It’s a decent gym with good quality equipment , my biggest grind there is when theres a class being held in the function room the space is limited elsewhere and then you’re waiting to use the machines .

Negative experience: The gym is quite spacious and well-equipped with modern machines, but its cleanliness is the worst I have ever seen. Almost every time I visited, the men’s bathroom was in an appalling state. I would rush in, quickly secure my belongings (if I could even find an available locker), and get out as fast as possible. Even the smell is unbearable.

Negative experience: Just moved from London and was excited to train at this nearby gym. However, spent over 50 minutes waiting outside in the corridor in the freezing cold as the gym only had one staff member working and was running a spin class. I witnessed multiple gym members have trouble gaining entrance due this ?revolving door security entrance. After asking multiple people if they could grab a staff member they all said they couldn’t find the person. THE WORST GYM SUPPORT I’ve ever had and I couldn’t even train. WOULD NOT RECOMMEND THIS GYM TO MY WORST ENEMY.

Negative experience: Yet another London Puregym where no care is put into keeping the gym tidy. Weights thrown all over the place with multiple staff members seemingly doing nothing to improve it.

However we know that at busier times, weights are not always returned and our team complete regular re-sets of the gym. Negative experience: I recently visited this gym, and while the equipment and facilities seemed decent, the hygiene in the changing rooms and toilets was completely unacceptable. The smell was overwhelming and made the experience very unpleasant. It’s clear that cleanliness is not being prioritized, which is a huge issue for a place meant to promote health and fitness. I expected much better standards, especially for the price. I won’t be returning unless this issue is addressed.

Positive experience: Been a member since the spring this year and I've been enjoying my training for the most part. Members are mostly friendly and respectful. It's surprisingly big and actually one of the bigger PureGym's I've trained at. Ll Equipment wise they have everything I pretty much need and the variety is decent. My only gripe or issue I'd bring up is that the showers are at times cold, and not ideal especially during the winter, and maybe could sort out some new plyo boxes amongst the new equipment they bring in, but can't complain much with the price I'm paying. Seems well-run and maintained - and recently got WiFi which I'm buzzing about!

Fantastic experience: New Great Team. This new set of people in Pure Gym at Stratford are the business. From day one they have done their utmost to deal with whatever query/problems raised. The ladies changing room had its floor mopped for the first time (that I saw) since I have been attending. It would be nice if there were wi-Fi access for members whilst using the Gym Good amount of new equipment has recently been installed in the Gym, which is an excellent thing. It cuts down on people queuing to use equipment. I have been attending Pure Gym since 2022, taking their spin classes, over time the mid-morning classes has tapered off, I suppose, due to poor attendance. Even though this has happened I still enjoy this exercise solo with my brother, we do between 45-60 minutes spinning 4 times per week. Finally, a big thank you to Dav in fulfilling my exercise routine by taking the time to supply me with a spinning bike whilst a training session was being conducted in the spinning room. Well done that man.

Negative experience: The female changing rooms are practically in a different post code and smell so bad you have to try not to breathe. Not great location overall either...

Negative experience: Good gym when its about space , equipment.. but the state of the toilets every time i come here is deplorable, i go to 3 different puregym branches and the other 2 are always top condition

Negative experience: Place is always packed, never any machines free, and then the studio is back to back with classes at peak time, so there’s nearly no point in being there. Just end up being there for hours to get one upper body day in because of how long you’re waiting for machines and weights to be free.

Positive experience: Pure I signed up for a 3 day membership but took ages to contact Pure to resolve it. Gym staff are luckily more helpful and friendly especially the Italian guy and the manager. Functional gym. Second time using it. No complaints.

Negative experience: I recently visited Stratford PureGym and, while the gym itself has good equipment and a decent layout, there were a couple of issues that really detracted from the overall experience. Firstly, the disabled toilets are permanently locked. This means that unless I had specifically asked for them to be opened, I wouldn’t have been able to use them. This is extremely frustrating, especially for anyone who needs quick access and shouldn’t have to request assistance every time. Accessibility should be a priority, not an afterthought. Secondly, the number of people recording themselves with phone tripods in the gym is excessive. Everywhere I turned, there was someone filming their workout for social media. I didn’t sign up to be in the background of every TikTok weightlifting reel. It creates an uncomfortable environment where you constantly feel like you’re invading someone’s video or might be accidentally caught on camera. Also air conditioner is leaking and some machines are worn out. Overall, despite the good equipment, these issues made the visit less enjoyable and left me questioning the focus on accessibility and gym etiquette.

Negative experience: There is always something broken or not working. The gym needs to get clean from time to time. Difficult management. Poor customer service.

Staff do undertake regular maintenance checks and work hard with our equipment providers to ensure that our equipment is fixed as soon as possible, if any should be broken. We are equally as disappointed when this happens and sometimes need to wait on engineers but will have all equipment in full working order as soon as is safely possible. Fantastic experience: I like all things but not one that is music. Because well musics or songs motivate us in the gym but there is not like that so this one thing I dislike.

Fantastic experience: I joined this gym for one day because I wanted a quick training somewhere in London. My 1 hour experience was great, the gym was clean, good temperature nice air flow and machines in good condition. The manager Daria was very helpful with me and I enjoyed my quick workout.

Negative experience: The management has very bad manners and creditors. First of all, every business has good morals and social etiquette and good relations with people. But unfortunately, none of these exist in this club. Every day, the toilets are dirty, smell very bad, and the air conditioning is not air-conditioned. I 12 I have been training for a year, unfortunately, these clubs are very rare. I do not recommend them to anyone

Positive experience: I recently joined PureGym Stratford and wanted to share my experiences. The gym equipment here is fantastic! It’s modern, well-maintained, and there’s a wide variety of machines and weights to cater to all fitness levels. Whether you're into cardio, strength training, or group classes, you’ll find the facilities accommodating. However, I was quite disappointed by the cleanliness of the gym, particularly in the toilets. It's clear that more attention needs to be paid to hygiene, as the state of the restrooms leaves much to be desired. There were plenty of times were there was no sanitiser or paper tissues in the dispensers to clean the equipment too. Clean facilities are crucial for a positive gym experience, and this aspect really detracted from my overall impression. Additionally, I observed some concerning behavior from the manager, Daria, who appeared unprofessional in her interactions with both staff and gym members. A respectful and supportive environment is essential in a gym setting, and unfortunately, this was not my experience. Overall, while the gym has great potential with its excellent equipment, significant improvements in cleanliness and management professionalism are needed for it to truly shine.

Negative experience: Very unprofessional!! The tattooed man is very rude and arrogant! I asked him some help with the gym access being faulty and his answer was that he needs something to do and then he will come back to help. He actually disappeared leaving me to wait 20 minutes and then I decided to leave. I never seen something like it in my entire life. Very disappointed. But overall luckily there are some good people out there like Joseph and Ervin who apologised and reassured me about the situation. Well done to you guys! Gyms need more people like you.

Negative experience: First day …. Walk up to the man at the reception area, greeted him, not sure he liked it all that much. Told me “everything is on one floor and in the following 10 seconds went on a rant, of which I understood nothing”. I am glad I took a monthly membership. I wouldn’t wanna see that tattooed face ever again. People need to be nice, would cost nothing. I guess I ll have to navigate the place on my own. You lose motivation when you encounter idiots like this.

Negative experience: I recently had an unfortunate experience at pure gym Stratford involving one of the staff members, Ammad. I have always appreciated the facilities provided, but I was taken aback by how I was treated during my visit. As someone who pays for a premium membership, I expect to have access to all amenities, including the disabled toilet. However, when I approached the disabled toilet, Ammad informed me that I would need a special membership to use it. I was shocked to hear this, as I have never encountered such a policy before and felt completely mistreated. It is disheartening to think that in a place that promotes inclusivity and accessibility, a staff member would deny someone access to a basic necessity like a restroom. This experience not only made me feel uncomfortable but also raised concerns about the understanding and training of staff regarding accessibility issues. I sincerely hope that management will address this situation and ensure that all staff members are trained to handle such matters with sensitivity and respect. Access to facilities should never be a source of humiliation or confusion, especially for those who genuinely need it.

Fantastic experience: Attend Rosa Torrez’s classes! They are apative, inclusive, challenging, feel good sessions no matter what your fitness level is! (Especially Dance, Bums Tums and thighs and the womens only weightlifting workshop.)

Fantastic experience: I really liked this gym in comparison to all other pure gyms I’ve been too. It’s big, good range of equipment and space. However it does get busy on peak time as per any other gym would do too. The only annoying thing is big groups of “men” filming their workouts with a tripod and taking over a machine for hours. Anyways, it’s a very good pure gym if you go off peak time and special shout out to Rosa Torrez. I went to one of her classes and it was really good, she actually demonstrated and was very motivating.

Positive experience: Overall a good gym with a decent size. It's obviously very crowded between 5pm and 8pm pretty much everyday. The pass system is a bit slow at times.

Negative experience: One star is even being generous . I’ve been going to this gym for a while . I decided to do a class as I hadn’t done one at this gym before . I’m assuming it is the same regular people who do the classes as they all knew what they needed equipment wise . When I walked in , the man with the tattooed face did not introduce himself or even say hi , he didn’t tell me what equipment I needed and rather left it up to someone else in the class to tell me . Didn’t explain to me how the class would go , did not explain certain exercises to me when you could clearly see I was confused . He obviously doesn’t care about his job or helping the people taking part in the classes . Not only this but the hygiene of the gym is disgusting , there was no soap in the ladies toilets for about a month . I never see a cleaner and the one time I did see a cleaner she was sitting on her phone in the changing rooms and not actually cleaning . The toilets downstairs flooded and the floors in the gym were soaking wet which is disgusting . The cleaning stations are always empty , what is the point of installing them if there’s never any spray or tissue .overall the stuff need to be retrained or hire some people with brain cells and a cleaner who actually cleans needs to be hired because it’s filthy

Negative experience: It's always too busy, not enough space or equipment to accommodate everyone and there's always people hanging about waiting to use equipment. I agree with others it is quite an unsanitary gym and could use improvement in that area. Staff are unapproachable.

Negative experience: Changing rooms and toilets are almost always dirty but that's not the annoying thing. The main annoying thing is that the wifi has been down for 3 months now. No one that works there seems to know when it'll be fixed. Now for a gym that needs an app that uses the internet to enter and exit the gym, that's very problematic, especially considering there's no signal in the building to use internet data...

Negative experience: I've frequented many gyms over the years, but PureGym Stratford sadly ranks as one of the most unpleasant experiences, primarily due to its overpowering odor. It's bewildering whether they lack proper ventilation or deliberately forgo using it, but the gym is perpetually enveloped in a sharp, pungent scent of sweat that's hard to ignore. Equally disappointing are the conditions of the toilets, a clear testament to the lack of social responsibility among members and the seemingly indifferent attitude of the staff towards maintaining cleanliness. Their efforts, or the lack thereof, result in a half-hearted attempt that barely scratches the surface of what is needed to keep the gym in a respectable state.

Negative experience: 6 months ago come to check the reviews and I was scared and disgusted. Now, just expecting some improvement is even worse. Congratulations for the worse reviews I ever read, I used to go to a PureGym in another city and was awesome. This I don't even have the courage to go.
Negative experience: First time at this gym. I went to ask for SIMPLE information, the manager with a tattooed face and a blonde woman were super arrogant and even gave me the wrong information! You can see that they don't care about the gym customers because they barely even look at your face. If they paid so much attention, why would they have men painting the wall of the women's bathroom during peak hours at the gym? How to change clothes or take a shower in this situation? It was very uncomfortable having to use the bathroom with men in front of the bathroom doors. And from other reviews I can see that I'm not alone in this opinion, which is a fact!!!

Negative experience: Gym has no WiFi & a limited staff presence. The showers & Mem’s changing area are a joke. This is (unfortunately) a hard avoid. They need to tear up the terrible retrofit attempt & start again.

Negative experience: Avoid this gym if you want to exercise in a friendly and clean space. The gym manager named DARIA UNIATOWSKA is extremely unprofessional and really loves power plays at Pure Gym Stratford. After I incorrectly replaced my dumbbells on the wrong shelves, she not only humiliated me by raising her voice publicly, but she also proceeded to suspend my gym membership when I told her that she cannot raise her voice to me in front of everyone. After 2 weeks and hundreds of emails, I was able to get my membership back after a meeting with the cluster manager. He understood my concerns about her and definitely had a more friendly and professional vibe. When I returned to the gym after 2 weeks, I saw that a lot of dumbbells were placed on the wrong shelves there. She was around but wasn't warning anyone the way she raised her voice at me. The reason why my account was suspended is because I didn’t let her raise her voice against me. She should know how to act and talk to people as there are a lot of bad reviews about her on Google Reviews. Also, she should care more about the terrible hygiene level of the gym as the changing rooms always look dirty and smell disgusting like I have never seen soap in the toilet, and no one can wash their hands because of this. In the men's changing room, hair dryers rarely work and I used to see some people smoking cigarettes in the changing room. I wouldn't recommend this gym if you don’t want to get some extra drama in your life. Stratford Pure Gym needs to hire a new manager ASAP, and SOMEONE NEEDS TO WORK ON THEIR ANGER ISSUES BEFORE TALKING TO ANY MEMBER.

Negative experience: I started going last month and was fine but in the last few days there is NO OXYGEN at all and HUMIDITY must be 90%+. See the glass at the entrance full of water. I get a headache after 30 minutes. Please fix the ventilation system.

Positive experience: Has a lot of equipments and is clean. Only problem is lack of staff and if there is staff present they are not proactive. There was a time I pressed the assistance button and had to wait 30mins to get seen to. I have seen this happen to others as well. Another major thing is the aircon is always off! There was a time they put the heating on which is ridiculous. This needs to be sorted

Negative experience: Based on the reviews, joining the Stratford branch of PureGym seems like a bad idea. The reviews mention broken equipment and hygiene issues, which would only annoy. I trust the customers' feedback and don't accept the poor responses from management. Therefore, I won't consider this place as an option.

Negative experience: It's a good size gym and a lot of options for muscle training. I've visited various branches in PureGym now but the male changing room in Stratford is the most dirty, stinking and disgusting place I have ever seen. Definitely it requires an upper management to schedule a cleaning more often than just signing a paper saying that it is checked.

Negative experience: I have been attending this gym for a year now never had an issue I’ve always just focused on my workouts and left. Today my things were stolen from the female changing rooms. I went to the manager Daria to assist instead of her to be empathetic she referred to me as a silly girl and raised her voice at me multiple time I had to ask her to not raise her voice as all I want to do is to resolve this issue I was extremely disappointed with the level of customer service I experienced being a loyal member I would have liked if she had offered to show me the CCTV footage instead of being insulted like I wasn’t the victim would not recommend this gym the MANAGER DARIA DOES NOT KNOW THE MEANING OF BEING A MANAGER OR CUSTOMER SERVICE

Fantastic experience: Since joining two months ago, my experience at PureGym has continued to exceed expectations. I was really surprised and glad to see the enthusiasm and positivity that the trainers here consistently show (unlike other gyms I’ve been a member of). I’ve been impressed with the quality of the classes - Pete, Simona, Josh and Daria always bring great energy and positivity to their classes which is contagious and makes them very enjoyable. Irfan also gives excellent stretch classes which are very popular. You can really feel the passion that they have for fitness; it is more than just a job for them. They are always very approachable and available for questions, which adds to the supportive community feel of this gym. I’m sure when I get the chance to try the other trainers’ classes, they will be just as good. Downsides: it gets very busy after 5 and can be hard to find workout spaces/machines. Locker space is also very limited; people usually take up lockers by throwing just a jacket inside and then leave it unlocked. This is quite annoying as I often have valuables that need to be locked away. Apart from these small issues, I’m a happy customer. Keep up the great attitude!

Positive experience: Just recently started at this gym we all know how it is starting a new gym and my experience was hindered by and employee who seemed to have a major attitude problem ofcourse everyone has there bad days but I have now had multiple interactions with her and she has been rude each and every time if she is there to help I suggest her to find a new job because I don’t think she enjoys helping people at all I was already nervous and asked for directions and was met with a horrible facial expression she seems to get annoyed she by existing she usually has slicked back hair wish everyone the best

Positive experience: Needs WiFi - there is a staff network available so find it hard to believe you can’t offer it to customers, especially when bits of the gym don’t have much data signal and some cleaning spray for people to be able to wipe down machines. I wipe down with my own towel but doesn’t feel as hygienic as it could. For nearly £30 a month I’d expect this.

Negative experience: As mentioned in the other reviews, staff are extremely rude and very unapproachable, their attitude shows any interaction with customers are not appreciated. Weights are always lying around/left on the machines while the staff are sitting around on their desk. The hygiene level in this gym is extremely low. The toilet reeks of urine, tissue dispenser broken and most importantly there is rarely ever any soap to use. The locker are is poorly kept, with cockroaches crawling around in the locker. All around the worst gym experience I have had.

Staff does not circulate and remains unseen most of the time. UNHYGIENIC - there are no cleaning materials. When I brought this up to management, they cited "economic and environmental" concerns as to why they don't provide wipes or spray after the pandemic, and they expect members to provide towels from home in order to cover the machines. So many issues with this place. Terrible experience overall. Don't waste your money!

Negative experience: Have been going to gym for almost 9 months now. I am quite satisfied with the equipments and the space in general. However, the gym desperately need some sanitising stations like other ones. People sweating and standing on the benches and mats with their shoes on is kind of disgusting. Please get some sanitising stations please so that people can still clean it before they start their workout. Thank you.

PureGym prides itself on being able to offer state of the art fitness facilities to our members in a safe and welcoming environment. We developed industry-leading cleaning and hygiene protocols to help keep our members and employees safe during the COVID-19 pandemic, however, with the reduced risk and in line with the Government’s ending of legal restrictions, we have decided to remove self-cleaning stations in our gyms, which will also support our sustainability objectives by reducing our paper towel waste. We’re proud to say that many of the protocols implemented during lockdown, such as frequent and regular cleaning, and improvements to our air ventilation systems, will continue to be a core part of our TrainSafe Commitment. Fantastic experience: I usually just do classes and they are always so good I appreciate the trainers effort and dedication I have recently do my first class of stretch with Irfan and loved it probably one of my favourite so far he is really good so all the other trainers thank you ❤️

Negative experience: An otherwise good gym let down by complete lack of hygiene and cleanliness. Please don’t reply with the copy and paste answer about relaxed Covid-19 restrictions or reducing paper towel waste - providing cleaning supplies on the gym floor is the absolute bare minimum for any gym and all of your other locations I use on a weekly basis provide them.

Positive experience: It’s good for the price. Went to ladies changing room around 6pm, there was plenty of empty lockers and the space looked clean. Love the stretching class, instructor is amazing, extremely helpful and nice. Few equipments still in maintenance for a couple of weeks, which is a shame, but overall I’m having a good experience :)

Staff do undertake regular maintenance checks and work hard with our equipment providers to ensure that our equipment is fixed as soon as possible, if any should be broken. We are equally as disappointed when this happens and sometimes need to wait on engineers but will have all equipment in full working order as soon as is safely possible. Positive experience: Jesus! This gym is not able to service 220-250 people at any given time.... it just not have enough space and equipment to do so! Even if you try and pray for equipment, you will face some attitude from other members who fight for same equipment and will not share it most time... This breeds unpleasant atmosphere and Staff just adds to it.... Worse GYM in this sense, that I have attended to.... Basically this GYM is overselling membership just for the cashflow sake with no common sense.... Water fountain is broken, some machines are broken, not enough lockers, overselling memberships, rude staff, overcrowded between 5-7 PM (220-260 members). Will have to put up with it for 1 month that I bought....should have read the reviews prior.... UPDATE 11/2023 Gym has improved since, adding extra equipment, reorganized the shopfloor and fixed other issues around. Still overcrowded, minor issues with other members when trying to share equipment of sorts. From 1 star to 3 stars. Fair judgement in my experience
