However, there are notable concerns that potential members should consider:

JOHN REED Fitness London: Opinions
Negative experience: Never stepped foot in the gym but I’m being charged £1034.82 because they incurred “losses due to early termination”. These guys are scammers and we are fighting this in court cause never even came in for a tour. Avoid this gym at any cost unless you want to fight legal battles. EDIT: I called this morning to inform them of my written email and was told their manager would attend to it when they get in this morning. I called this afternoon only to be told this manager has left for the day. See your asses in court.
Positive experience: Decent gym, good atmosphere, nice boxing ring with is a nice touch. PT Tony is great.
Negative experience: Ah, John Reed Liverpool Street, A temple of mirrors and tripods, Where budget influencers roamed free, Perfecting the art of self-admiration— Their “technique” immortalized from every angle, While the rest of us, mere mortals, Danced around their cameras, Careful not to disturb their delicate rituals. Where screens flickered endlessly, Looping reels of dancers— A strange ballet of discomfort, Their bodies moving as if plagued, Writhing in rhythm, Faces set in expressions of quiet agony, As though each step whispered of worms beneath their skin. We watched them, bemused, transfixed, A vision of forced revelry we never asked for, An absurd choreography, Endlessly unsettling. The reception? A cold front of disinterested faces, Gazing through you with the indifference of ancient statues. Unless, of course, you bore the mark of minor fame, A badge of followers to unlock a fleeting smile. But for the rest of us, The paying ghosts, There was no warmth, save for a rare few Who remembered we existed. And the showers—oh, the showers. Out of service for nearly a year, A testament to neglect, Forcing us to embrace the world in our post-workout shimmer, A parade of sweat-soaked survivors Emerging from the sauna that life became. The design, a labyrinth of confusion, A vast, wasted ground floor, More art installation than functional space, Baffling to the untrained eye, As passersby peered in, Wondering what this temple was supposed to be. Towels, stacked like monuments to disorder, Strewn across the changing room floor, Because where, oh where, Could they possibly go? And the electrolyte machine, A mirage of relief, Always promising, Never delivering— A metaphor, perhaps, For the whole experience. The gym floor, crowded with those who never paid, Slipping in through the cracks, Their entry bought with whispered deals in the dark corners of Feel It, Where friendships were forged in shadow. And the music—ever clashing with the mood, A symphony of mismatched beats, Out of sync with the pulse of the room, As if the universe itself couldn’t quite decide What this place was meant to be. And let us not forget the cycles— Eternal promises of movement and sweat, But always broken, ever still, Their pedals silent, untouched, Gathering dust like relics of forgotten ambition. They stood as symbols of potential unrealized, A fitting tribute to a place That so often promised But never delivered. But now, John Reed, You close your doors. A chaotic chapter ends, And while we’ll not miss the tripods, the towels, or the tech failures, We tip our hats to you, For whatever this ride was.
Negative experience: Too bad this gym is shutting down, although I am not too surprised. The best thing about John Reed were the poor reviews - it kept the gym floor from getting overcrowded.
Negative experience: Member in Vienna: Tier 8. The JR tier system is apparently just a price system. Nothing in this gym is top tier. Unfriendly, untrained reception. Long list of things to repair. What is the maintenance doing? One station with paper to clean the machines on two floors. Tiny sauna. No relax area.
Negative experience: Avoid This Gym at All Costs My experience with this gym has been nothing short of a nightmare. I went in for a simple free trial, and without my consent, they attempted to withdraw money from my account. Despite numerous attempts to contact them and resolve the issue, I have been met with complete silence. Their lack of communication and customer service is appalling, and it's clear they are more interested in your money than providing a quality experience. I strongly urge anyone considering joining to think twice—this gym is not worth the hassle or frustration.
Negative experience: The design of this gym is very nice and it is fairly well equipped with equipment and machines although I would very much say that this gym is all style and no substance. I visited using the Wellhub membership and although the member of staff at the reception was friendly they advised that I would not be able to use a towel due to them being reserved for their 'members' which straight away made me feel less respected. Not offering towels at a gym in central London is a major flaw as I do not want to be carrying a wet towel around all day- there are also signs advising it is their 'house rules' to use a towel when training ♂️. Fortunately they were kind enough to allow me one on this visit but it was made clear this wouldn't happen in future. Further to this there were a number of other bits that didn't meet my expectations of what on the face of it looks like a premium gym, I was given a silver membership card when I should have been given gold in line with my membership, the atmosphere in the gym area is poor, I couldn't find staff to advise where things were, some of the gym equipment is downstairs which is fine but you have to go through the barriers and with the Wellhub membership your technically only allowed 1 entry per day which made it frustrating. The facilities in the changing rooms are fairly basic for a gym like this, limited, poor quality hair dryers, poor quality shower gel, no shampoo or conditioner, and no other toilettes like what you might get in other premium gyms. Unlikely I will be able to use this gym much due to the towel situation but a nice interior design and good location.
Negative experience: Awful gym. Most kits are broken and the changing room is just disgusting.
Negative experience: The guy named farhan has been speaking very rudely to me. Threatens me that he’ll call debt collection team to take the money from me when it was Farhan who was reading the wrong contract form even though i corrected him.
Negative experience: These people love playing their customers with the terms of the contract. I had cancelled my membership via e-mail and was asked a reason for the same but I forgot to reply and now they demand that I pay the outstanding amount for 3 months when the membership was technically cancelled which even the john reeds team agreed to. Moreover upon talking to the receptionist named Farhan, he was super arrogant and didn’t explain the problem to me properly. He also tried threatening me saying that he will take legal action against me and send my case to debt collection even when it was none of my mistake. Please stay away from this gym.
Negative experience: The worst gym. Don’t recommend joining here it’s grubby, grotty, awful equipment and they don’t care about their customers. Don’t get trapped in with the inital look!
Fantastic experience: They have really cleaned up their act and are now doing a fantastic job. Everything is working great, lovely gym. Highly recommend.
Negative experience: This gym is a rip off! I wanted a one off payment month membership so I called up as I couldn’t see it on the website. A member of staff by the name of Chino told me to come into the gym and he signed me up on his laptop, the following month I’m receiving emails threatening to have debt collectors if I don’t pay for the following month?? I didn’t step foot in the gym the following month as it’s tiny and overcrowded! If I joined up to the gym why isn’t it a a direct debit set up? I’ve explained this and they keep sending me threatening emails! If they think I’m paying they have another thing come!
Fantastic experience: Pretty gym with all the equipment you need. The staff was super kind and welcoming :)
Fantastic experience: Anthony took our class this week and he was amazing, really enjoyed the workout, it was challenging but also fun! I even learnt a new pose I never thought I’d be able to do! Highly recommend and hope he’ll be back love these studios also they’re stunning
Negative experience: Catfish gym - from first glance it looks okay, but then you realise that most of the time there always atleast 1-3 machines broken, the showers were closed for several months and repeatedly we were told they will open ‘soon’ which was delayed continuously. The woman’s changing rooms ‘look’ nice however the showers heads are awful, not only do they not aim straight but the pressure is super strong that it actually hurts your skin to shower and either are too high or too low in height, and usually there is only 2/3 toilets working and available. The hairdryer facilities are limited to 2 stations so you’re stuffed if they are taken and you have somewhere to be. The seats for the hair drying station are the most impractical tree stumps of wood and likely would be extremely painful if you knock yourself or likely to get a nasty splinter if you sit on them, and laughably wheelchair inaccessible. Classes are not that often and sometimes just cancelled randomly. Premium prices for sub standard gym. If you call expect there to be staff sat somewhere else doing their own thing instead of being behind the desk.
Positive experience: The staff are very friendly and welcoming. The women's changing rooms are a dream, very comfortable and relaxing and there's a sauna in there! As a Muslim I chose not to use mixed facilities and it was great to know that the men and women have separate saunas, unlike some of the other gyms in the area. The gym equipment is good but I've used better equipment as well (not all of the equipment feels sturdy), I also noticed some of the weights were labeled incorrectly (lbs/kg) but easy to convert either way. It's a little on the expensive side but it's the kind of gym you'd go to for an "experience". Overall, I like it, there's space to sit and chill as well, excellent location and well connected.
Negative experience: The gym overall is really beautiful, but their customer service is terrible and also not a huge fan of the attitude of the staff members. I have been trying to reach out to the customer service email for days with no answer. Also half of their lockers are broken, showers only got fixed recently but they don't work properly.
Negative experience: appaling customer service, 6+ months without shower
Negative experience: 5+ month with no showers out of service…
Negative experience: Similar experience to others - all going well until summer when their showers broke (at time of writing - still broke). No communication on updates, no real apology, no compensation, and limited customer service to appropriately deal with the situation. A real shame. Poor experience give the brand.
Negative experience: Started with the two week time out trial. Have been waiting for this gym to open for a while with the virgin broadgate being closed its nice to have to a gym open back in broadgate. Decided to take up the flex offer £120 down to £80 signed up on the ipad at reception with a friend and then after signing up was told no towel was to be provided. I can't remember the last time I took my own towel to the gym. Weights area have a great selection of machines and free weight area is great when you don't get in the way of an influencer on free membership recording their set. Changing rooms.... I believe John reed are targeting thirdspace and actually think they are on the same level... let's start. Robes no. Towels no. Basic generic bodywash come shampoo. What ever it is give me my Molton brown / cowshed. Sorry for the gold customers £120 saw one guy bring his own lynx Africa lol probably actually better than the generic one stop body wash. Only washed my hair once then queued to use the one hair dryer not even a ghd a lovely babylis... come.on guys you want to compete on the big stage then bring the quality. Think who you are targeting, busy city workers. #towelgate this is kicking up a storm to the point the staff are so boring taking about it that I feel sorry for them. Be careful on the 5 star reviews as you might see them in the gym wearing a staff uniform. I'm looking forward to the main sales guy returning from the head office with the way to save this gym! Will report back with an update soon!
Positive experience: Irgendwie sehr viel kleiner als erwartet. Geräte sind aber top und die Mitarbeiter freundlich
Negative experience: For the second time, I booked a class on ClassPass (which was supposed to be 14 CREDITS for a 30 min yoga class... bearing in mind that the most expensive 1h reformer pilates classes in the city are around 17 credits), turned up on time, checked in with the lady at the front desk who told me where to go. Got changed, waited in the studio for 10 minutes before realising no one was coming. Went to the front desk and the class had been cancelled because the instructor was on holiday. Mistakes happen, and it'd be fine if this was the only instance, but between this, getting charged AFTER I had cancelled the contract, the showers not working for 6 months, the terrible customer service... The gym is awfully mismanaged and the whole company is giving scammy vibes...
Negative experience: Gym without functioning showers, that closes at 8 on a Saturday and 5 on a Sunday
Negative experience: Showeres have been broken for 5 months. Gym is unsuable. The customer service team is trying to charge for it, not the premium gym they price at. Stear well clear.
Negative experience: Do *not* join this gym. Imagine joining a gym where if you cancel you send them six emails over a period of several weeks and they completely ignore you/take more money. Imagine a gym that has no working showers for six months. Imagine a gym where they outright lie to you on the phone about when showers will be fixed or when people will respond to your emails. Honestly save yourself the time and money and join an established gym that treats its members with respect.
Negative experience: Do Not Use.this gym. Never sign up. I made the mistake of trying this Gym a few months ago , they’ve not had working showers from August 2023 through to December 2023. Yeah, they still want to take a monthly payment, no direct debit, no standing order, just your card details which they try various techniques to continue charging you, despite the fact they don’t have facilities to clean yourself. Their business practices are substandard, as are their facilities, there are far better gyms in the city than this place.
Negative experience: When I came to this gym just for a trial I’ve been told by the member of staff that the membership will be for one year and it can be canceled anytime. I signed up for the contract and after few months I had to move out abroad. I’ve tried to cancel the membership but the staff told me to send an email because this is the only way I can cancel my membership. They didn’t respond to my emails for a few weeks and then they said that I can’t cancel my membership. After few months they instructed DEBT COLLECTORS even I couldn’t and I didn’t go to the gym in those months! I am still receiving debt collectors calls and emails where they are considering to escalate me to the court!!! I can’t believe this. Worst gym, worst customer service I’ve ever experienced. They expecting me to pay around 400£ for the months I didn’t go to the gym at all. And I did everything to cancel this contract.
Negative experience: Do not sign up to this gym. What started off as a great gym with great customer service is now a complete disaster. I feel bad for the physical staff who I'm sure are being hounded by members for any update from customer services. I've been waiting a whole month for customer services to get back to me with almost daily calls for updates. Today I found that I would have to wait for someone from customer services to get back to me to do that... So basically I have no way to cancel my membership... Something that is normally handed at reception.
Negative experience: WATCH OUT! Threaten me with debt collectors WHILE they dont respond to any emails and since the beginning THEY COULD NOT resolve registering my acccount!!! Called them up, they said to contact customer service :DD what a joke, their customer service is NON existent and they rarely ever reply and never solve anything. They will push and press you to sign up for this and that but will never solve any issues. or WORSE, wont reply when you want to shut down your account.
Negative experience: Showers not working (over 4 months).
Negative experience: Looks nice, but showers hasn’t been working for almost half a year so impossible to use during lunch, after work too busy and classes could be better!
Negative experience: So funny to see this place go to hell! Sharon you need to do a better job at managing this gym. - Staff use the private members changing rooms so you're getting naked next to someone you have to walk past every day at reception. It's horrifically unprofessional and no luxury gym in London does this except John Reed Liverpool Street - I'm pretty sure Sharon only spends about 10 minutes interviewing these staff and there's certainly no background checks because all the staff are always on their mobile phones texting or on Instagram. They're as inexperienced as she is with no understanding of how luxury gyms work. There's no oversight of their actions because there's no Managing Director or COO running this place - Showers constantly smell like urine so either the cleaner has a sinus infection everyday and can't smell anything or she doesn't use bleach to clean the showers which is scary from a hygiene standpoint - Customer service is non-existent because staff are inexperienced teenagers
Yes Hi Emma, Thank you for your feedback. We have searched our database and can see you are not currently a JR member. Thank you, all our best, JR team
Negative experience: Can only reiterate what everyone else has said here. DO NOT SIGN A CONTRACT HERE. I) when I first visited the whole process felt like they were doing me a favour(?!). Did end up joining but only once I could deal with a different person ii) fundamentally had an issue with the “gold” membership which meant you could get a towel for the shower(!), electrolyte drinks (not for me - so sweet) and a guest at the weekends (used this once). I would note I have not even had one shower here since May! iii) now the showers have been out of action for months! Aside from initial concerns when this first happened, I sent a renewed email on 12th September and chased but was ignored for over a month! You are told on the email communication not to ask the desk in the gym for updates but if no one replies to your emails for weeks on end what are you supposed to do?! iv) 17th October, after many chasers and asking very calmly in the club several times finally got a response saying an option of 25% discount but would have to be requested every month (still don’t think this is enough for “gold” members but better than nothing I suppose) or in club product credit (vending machines etc.) I replied immediately on 17th October saying 25% discount please but of course on the 1st November they took the full amount v) I emailed on 1st November to express my disappointment- no response vi) I called today. Lots of talk of someone will get back to me etc. but customer service is a different team and no we can’t contact them directly Just NOT good enough
Negative experience: BEWARE OF BEING TRAPPED IN THE CONTRACT!! Account doesn't work and Customer Service does NOT exist so they scam you into not being able to get out of the contract! They just ignore any messages!! First i showed interest and got a call and been pushed to sign up straight away and have first 3 months free as trial. I told the person im going away for 3 months so id rather wait til later, he said that i wont be able to get gold membership later, so i did sign up (my fault) didnt go once as i was away. I cant believe i got pushed into this and I fell for it. Because other people had that same offer months later. That was the first red flag From the beginning I couldn't use their app as I appeared as non-existing member, but at the same email i receive all the bills and emails from john reed. Contacted their customer service so many times but they never EVER respond. I couldn't access my data, payments, any info bc i couldnt register my account on the app even though im registered in their system and been paying all that time. I can't cancel my membership because when i messaged the customer service they just ignore it. Called them up and they said to message Customer Service (the one that never responds). I need to cancel this dogshhhh it membership asap bc their customer service disgusts me. from very 1st step it was going from bad to worse. Now im stuck in this bc they wont answer customer service and i cant cancel my account and paid already for over a year and haven;t been to that gym ONCE!! not even ONCE!!!!! Disgusted!!!!!!
Negative experience: AVOID this gym at all costs. Not only the showers haven’t worked for the past 4 months which is a joke, but the customer service is literally non existent. I have been trying to cancel my membership but didn’t get any response for the past 3 weeks. Their staff in arrogant and don’t have any clue on what is going on. I am planning on taking legal action, and please, as fancy as it may seem from photos, just go anywhere else.
Fantastic experience: Amazing service at reception and an unreal gym experience. Best gym i’ve been in Europe! Sharon helped us around the gym too!
Negative experience: Dear Rsg group and John Reed Team, I understand that technical issues can sometimes arise, but the showers have not been accessible for the past 4 months and your customer service is just terrible at handling this situation. I had to escalate the message through the staff team and the response from your customer service rep Maddison Rogers was that she will backdate a freeze of my contract for 2 months meaning I don’t have to pay the next 2 months… guess what, I don’t use the gym because of the broken showers so this is not a suitable solution. I can just freeze or terminate my contract once for all since the service is not being provided as per contract. Now it has been another 2 weeks and I’m still waiting for a reply. Sorry but this is definitely not what I understand under great customer experience. What a shame.
Fantastic experience: Love it !!!
Negative experience: Misleading people by advertising 10 visits for 49£ which ends on friday (as stated by emails received today). They then call you to tell you the promotion ended yesterday but you can sign up for a contract instead. Misleading advertising. Reviews about showers not working for 3 months. Sounds great… Not…
Positive experience: Great gym. Would be a 5/5 if it weren’t for the shower issues which have been lasting for a few months now
Negative experience: The studio itself is fine. But the customer service is unfortunately a disaster. Because of the broken showers, I was promised a reduction in my membership fee, which should be 25%. Instead, I was still charged the entire amount. I have tried with countless e-mails to get my money back (75 GBP) but I didn't succeed. I wish I had just cancelled the contract earlier and gone to a cheaper gym that at least had working showers. Nothing more than empty promises. Would not recommend based on this experience.
Negative experience: There is only one hair dryer in the men's changing room. I was a member of McFit (the european low cost chain owned by the same company) . I tried out locations across Germany, Italy, Spain and Austria and they all had 2 hair dryers (even if the gym had 200 work stations) I guess the management team are all bald :)
Negative experience: After three long months of not being able to use the showers at the gym, with no concrete information on when they would finally be fixed, I decided to visit the gym in person to request the cancellation of my membership. During this face-to-face meeting with the staff, they assured me that my request had been taken care of. However, things have taken a frustrating turn as I received an email that threatened legal action for unpaid gym fees from the past couple of months, even after I had already canceled my membership. To make matters worse, I was then informed that they only accept cancellations through email or written letters. So, now I find myself owing three months' worth of fees plus an additional four weeks' notice. I must express my profound disappointment with the way I've been treated by the gym staff. Whenever I email them, their responses are painfully slow, and I must admit that their communication leaves much to be desired. It's evident that I'm not the only member facing such negative experiences. This gym and the staff running it need proper training or perhaps need to consider other options.
Negative experience: Unfortunately as mentioned by several people, this gym is a bit of a joke. On the outside it appears to be a high end gym but under the surface you soon realise the gym isn't what it's made out to be. When I signed up they told me that the showers would be out of service for a week however from what I've heard from other members the showers still are out of service.... this was 3 months ago! I took out a membership to give the place a go as I was told that I could cancel before the cooling off period, which I did. Unfortunately John Reed went on to charge me anyway for the membership and then thob me off for months as to the delay in processing my refund. They have now since sent me an email claiming to have made the refund but checking my accounts no refund were sent. Do yourself a favour and AVOID THIS GYM!
Negative experience: I’m a member here for a bit more than a year. Was such a nice place to exercise, but half a year ago this gym started to slide into nowhere! No showers for 3 months? Absolute joke! Smelly and dirty carpets in the locker rooms! Non working bicycles, and so on….. «thank you» for stopping me from achieving my goals. And avoid this place until they change management.
Fantastic experience: My favourite Classpass venue
Negative experience: Mis managed, unhelpful management and no concern for customers - faculties not working We have been more than patient John Reed Third Space… are you still there ?
Negative experience: Showers not working for 3 months now. Surely this a should be rectified and the staff don’t have any idea when. Poor for a gym that wants to be seen as high end
Fantastic experience: John Reed is an exceptional gym. I have been a member for almost 2 years and have experienced excellent facilities, great customer service, amazing classes, and an increasing sense of community atmosphere and friendliness. Farhan is an excellent team member who always provides one with kindness, sincerity, and a light hearted joke. He's given me some great advice with regards to nutrition and it is always fun to see him in some classes. The personal trainers and manager are always willing to help, even between one of their own sets. Imran has given me invaluable advice since the beginning of my journey with regards to nutrition, proper form, and suggested classes. And all of this was for free. This has allowed me to train the best I ever have done in the last 5 years. At times I've had to adjust my membership due to travel and other commitments. Nathan, who originally signed me up, has always helped and gave me great advice with regards to this. I've always found his customer service to be authentic and responsive. He's great to have a conversation with. I could say similar things about Ryheem and Roxy. The external classes are great as well and the amount of emphasis on new classes that focus on mobility, calisthenics, and other areas are simply wonderful. They've facilitated fixing long-term issues that I've had with mobility and helped me gain new strength and definition that I couldn't envision prior to the classes. Yes the showers have been faulty for a little while. However, I completely understand that this problem is an issues to do with the external building as opposed to being a liability of anyone associated with the gym. Overall, the gym is fantastic.
Negative experience: I've been a member at John Reed Liverpool St. For almost 2 years now, and I must say I'm thoroughly disappointed with my experience there. What started decent newly opened gym has been under consistent decline from the moment it opened its doors and has now reached its peak with the changing and shower facilities having been out of order for months, which is unacceptable for a gym of this caliber. Not only are these facilities inoperative, but they have also consistently been smelly, unhygienic, and dirty. It's a health hazard, and it's disheartening to see a complete lack of maintenance and cleanliness. I've tried to be patient, assuming that these issues would be resolved in a reasonable timeframe, but enough is enough. Paying for a membership that promises certain amenities and not receiving them is not what I signed up for. I strongly advise potential members to think twice before joining John Reed Liverpool St. Until they can rectify these issues and provide a clean, functional environment.
Negative experience: No working showers for 3 months
Positive experience: Love John Reed a lot, but shower situation is a bit peak, I know it’s out of their control but it’s been a while.
Negative experience: DEBT COLLECTORS?.....Showers have been out of use for nearly 3 months so i asked to cancel my membership 2 months ago as i don't use the gym anymore. They confirmed to me in person that my membership was cancelled. I was confused when i received a late payment warning. I questioned it and the manager who was incredibly rude to me told me that in fact nothing had been cancelled and then hung up the phone. Nobody at customer services responds to my emails. I do not know what to do.
Fantastic experience: Great customer response and service from Farhan. Although the gym shower area not working is drawback, even the gym team providing adequate compensation even they don’t have any idea when it will operational. That’s very bad for top end gym like this.
Fantastic experience: I was there for a trail, Great machines, Clean gym and good customer service from reception . Farhan gave me a tour of gym and helped me with some machines as there was no fitness team available.
Fantastic experience: Nice gym, Great Equipment, big shoutout to Farhan great customer service
Fantastic experience: Very good gym with good equipment and a nice sauna. Also shoutout to Farhan, great PT. Keep it up guys!
Fantastic experience: Very nice gym and equipment. Also had a room with a boxing ring and punching bags which is a bonus. I want to give a special mention to Farhan who helped us navigate the gym and helped us with any questions that we had. 5⭐️ customer service
Fantastic experience: First time at John Reed Liverpool Street today and had a great time thanks to the workers, especially a trainer called Farhan. I was unaware on how to use some of the machines, he showed me how to use it throughly and helped me throughout my workout with whatever I needed. Thank you Farhan.
Negative experience: The equipment is good quality, but that’s about the only good thing about this gym. The worst part is the changing rooms. They have carpets (unhygienic and vile), they’re far too warm, and they are also designed in such a way that despite having around a hundred lockers, there are only about four tiny benches, so it feels very cramped if there are more than six people getting changed. As for the gym itself, there doesn’t seem to be any dedicated stretching / warmup area. The entire downstairs seems like wasted space to me.
Negative experience: So you need to pay 30€ like anyone else when you have another John Reed membership in another country? It doesn’t make sense when you think about them using it as a membership draw!
Negative experience: UPDATE!!! So after the whole shower fiasco, I decided to not extend my contract with them, moved on with my life (September 2023) they randomly started demanding a payment in January for since September and then in February threatened to send me in collection, so I emailed them back, reminding them I’m not a member since September, now in April, some collection agency is trying to get me to pay 900£ lol :D at this point they properly are fraud gym, they took the John Reed name so low . Luckily I have a solicitor and will give them a lesson. Original review: To be honest I tried to be patient but after 3 months of showers not working and not fixed, my experience has been just awful. I go to the gym after work and I’m forced to go straight home after because I’m all sweaty and can’t shower. Staff have no information to give and it has become a joke, minimum communication and no effort to compensate customers. At 100£ a month I’d expect better of them. Anyhow, my contract is due 1.9 and I will be canceling because of this reason. I like the gym but not enough to accept this big issue. My advice to management, be proactive and work with your customers as obviously 3 months of no showers in a gym is a BIG problem for all of us!!
Negative experience: Fix the showers. It has been months. Just fix them. The staff are bored of not knowing how to answer. What's the actual problem?
Negative experience: As the other reviews stated - this is the worse gym, they do not respond to your emails; customer service is no help and have no clue, they are either on their phone or disappear from reception, showers have not been working for 3 months, the air con in the gym is poor, changing rooms/gym floor feels like a sauna and Ive been told there has been an issue with the air con since opening, no proper update or even a discount to membership and trying to cancel due to this, they have been ignoring emails, no point calling up the gym they will never give you a straight answer. Ive held back before making any complaint, however with the way I have been treated I feel that I should air it out. Please don't believe the other positive reviews - if you want a gym where you are happy not to shower after training then sign up.
Negative experience: AVOID AT ALL COSTS. Just got set debt collectors on me because their incompetent team didn't set up my payment properly and wouldn't let me cancel the membership despite not using the gym through ill health. The dispute was never managed internally and I received threatening phonecalls from gym staff prior to this. AVOID this place, it's all brawn, no brains and they only care about getting your money.
Negative experience: Showers have been broken for a while now, with no expectation as to when it would be fixed. For a place that is definitely at the higher end of gym prices, I had expected better
Negative experience: Showers completely shut for over a month so means can’t go before work. Actually had to close the gym for days at a time because of this. Was promised a refund as compensation but since then no replies to emails.
Negative experience: Great equipment but far too busy to use. No showers for over a month, no discount offered and no response to emails from trainers, mangers or customer service. Can't cancel as they won't reply. Terrible customer service and far too busy for the price. Personal trainers also like to use multiple pieces of equipment, there is only 3 squat racks and a handful of bars which makes it impossible to use when they are training multiple people at the same time, having chats and generally taking their sweet time.
Negative experience: Showers not working for over a month
Negative experience: Worst gym. There are no showers at all.
Negative experience: No showers for weeks now, so basically the Gym/Sauna which i am paying £100 a month for is not usable... Was promised a miserly 20% discount for the month, and not even this was delivered and i was fully charged... Wouldn't use again
Negative experience: No showers at all since months. Heating issue in the locker room, temperature far too high which is very uncomfortable after a work out. Toilets so dirty most of the time, that they can’t be used at all. Music too loud by far. Would not recommend a membership.
Fantastic experience: Best gym in London! Love this gym vibe, lovely friendly staff, you’ll find a variety of proper good quality gym equipment in this gym for productive workouts. The gym cleanliness is top and the sauna is just amazing. Great job to the ones that did this gym’s design, it’s just fabulous.
Hi Alina Thank you for your amazing feedback! We are so glad you're enjoying your experience here at JR London and we hope you continue to! Kind regards, JR
Fantastic experience: My favourite gym in London by far. So affordable compared to other gyms. There’s a lot of equipment available I never have to wait to get on a machine and love the cardio area. Also the changing rooms are so pretty
Fantastic experience: I had an excellent experience at John Reed Fitness Gym. The staff was incredibly friendly and welcoming, making my visits enjoyable. The gym boasts top-notch machines that are well-maintained, allowing for a great workout experience. Additionally, the ambiance of the place is lovely, creating a motivating atmosphere. Overall, I highly recommend John Reed Gym for its friendly workers, quality machines, and inviting environment.
Fantastic experience: Nothing to complain about this gym!

Negative experience: I liked the concept of the gym and the machines were great quality. There are a few things that completely put me off coming to the gym. * POOR Customer service - I requested a call back last week (8th June) and up to this day, no one even bothered to give me a call back. The customer service at John Reed is absolutely ATROCIOUS and despicable. They only care about “contracts” which they don’t explain the Terms and Conditions until you request a CANCELLATION. That’s when they tell you “as per our terms and conditions, you can’t cancel until the following year”. My experience with Ashley Ruckus was extremely stressful and absolutely unacceptable. He didn’t care for the fact that I only joined the gym in a month and then couldn’t make it anymore due to personal reasons. Also he LIED to me saying the people at the front desk explained the Terms and Conditions when NO ONE did. I’m very upset by this and I won’t be recommending this gym to even my enemy because they treat their customers like TRASH. * Ground floor space : I barely made it to the weights section on the ground floor because I didn’t enjoy the environment. * Towels should be available at the changing rooms. It's so awkward having carry your own towels when it should be available every time for people in the gym. Instead, you need to pay extra and then to go to the RECEPTION ask for a towel. This is unbelievable but it’s true. * Shower - for a “high end” gym, I shouldn’t be pressing the shower buttons every 30 seconds to be able to use it. It defeats the whole purpose of “luxury”.
Negative experience: Worst gym ever!!! It looks nice but it’s actually soo bad the vibe is not good and there is no one to help you plus I apparently have a one year contract (and they never specified that I can’t stop it) and due to circumstances I am not in London anymore and I am stock with those 80£ a month!! For a student it’s very expensive!! Plus they don’t understand or give you any explanation or anything!!! Very very very disappointed!! Thank you very much for making me lose money!!!
Fantastic experience: Really beautiful gym, with top of the range equipment and helpful trainers. The sauna is an added bonus
Negative experience: Signed for a memebership 6 months ago but already thinking about the End of contract. 2* only because of Great equipment and design Changing rooms without air conditioning, whenever you take a shower after few seconds you are boiling and sweating again as next to it there’s a sauna. Other members doesn’t really care about environment and leave the used towels and mess around in the changing room as well ( no info about drop of for the towels , staff no notifying others to drop of the towel at the end to the bin) Very basic Shampoo and shower gel which in most of showers aren’t even described so you actually don’t know what you use Unlimited Electrolyte and Vitamin drinks No even available for a month I’ve been here since November last year and don’t even know who’s the manager of this facility when tried to speak about the smell and excessive temperature in the changing rooms the member of the staff just passed this info somewhere to the back office and thats all. Staff is nice but that’s all. Had idle period for a month due to the holiday , returned a week back earlier before month ends so tried to reactivate it a pay for the remaining days and finally start using the gym again -unfortunately I was told over the phone by member of staff to send CS email - so far no luck and reply , their Facebook customer service has Reed my message but didn’t bother to reply as well Personal Trainers just looking after themselves on many occasions I saw others members performing exercises wrongly which could cause contusions but they won’t help you Not worth. Edited to 1 star due to useless customer service and staff
Negative experience: Filthy toilets, can’t drink water unless you have a bottle, no apologies for their broken drinks fountain which you have to pay extra to access, terrible showers, unlabelled industrial shampoo, expensive.
Positive experience: - Good gym with new equipment. - Terrible showers that are like something out of a old university dorm. - Nice staff (except it seems, some of the English women who can be a bit rude). - Music can be questionable. Sometimes it’s Coldplay - why in a gym? And personal trainers putting on the odd dodgy Grime playlist - Wasted downstairs space - High fees for losing a card that I should be able to download to my phone (£5 for some plastic is mad)
Fantastic experience: Very polite staff. Farhan showed me around the gym, he was very helpful and offered me great advice.
Fantastic experience: Great gym with amazing staff. Receptionist Farhan showed me around, he is very knowledgeable and friendly.
Fantastic experience: Sehr angenehm zum Trainieren
Fantastic experience: Great staffs and always clean
Positive experience: Palestra bellissima, ottimo design, colori… Macchinari ok… Avrei messo più rack per squat e stacchi…
Positive experience: Great staff and equipment. Personal trainer (Imran) checked on me and gave free training advices almost every time I saw him, and I’m not even his client! However, recently the gym started to smell really bad in the evening when some members didn’t wear deodorants when they should. And it was not just few members. Trying my best not to be offensive here but it really affected my training experience as breathing is one important aspect of any training. I know it’s not the gym’s fault as they can’t really control members’ personal choice. However, I hope they could make it an explicit gym rule that everyone should be cautious of his/her/their personal hygiene. Maybe having deodorant in the changing room is a good idea.
Fantastic experience: Clean, beautiful interior and pleasant staff.
Negative experience: Awful, go for another gym, worst gym I’ve used despite being one of the priciest. By the way they make cancellation difficult so add a few months onto your projected membership fees
Fantastic experience: We were in London on business and went to look around the facility, we met Nathan who was so helpful he showed us around and even gave us a complimentary session and provided us with fresh towels for after. Great Service! The facility was impressive and everything was clean, if i lived in the area i'd be training there daily!!
Positive experience: Esta genial pero se echa de menos una sala funcional un poco más grande como la de John Reed Madrid.
Fantastic experience: Love this gym .. lovely and clean … great variety of equipment… friendly staff and an all over great vibe … also great price to join for the high standard of this gym highly recommend!
Positive experience: Good gym, showers could be better. Water isn't super hot and overall "ok" water pressure. Also could have some nicer/better toiletries in the changing room area (as other gyms have, e.g. 1Rebel, Barry's).
Negative experience: The customer service is terrible. I signed up having been told I have 14 days to cancel my membership. No one has responded to my repeated emails. My registration email didn’t even include the attachment of my contract. I called, they didn’t know how to help. I visited again trying to cancel, again no one knew how to help. A complete travesty. Completely unacceptable and unprofessional. Plus for such an expensive membership it’s ridiculous to not even get towels on the basic membership.
Negative experience: Apparently staff (Imran) are allowed to pick fights with members for no reason. Would 100% avoid if you like to work out in peace. Whilst it wasn't directed at me, I'm not a fan of places that treat paying customers as a burden to be berated instead of a valued client. Shame, as other than the staff it's a great facility.
Fantastic experience: Absolutely amazing gym! The staff are so so friendly and what I love about this gym is the variation of equipment and is effective for me to work out... no queing for equipment either unlike other gyms with less equipment. The interior is stunning and changing rooms are great. It's well worth upgrading to gold and can honestly say ill think I'll be here for a long time. The price tag is very good considering what other gyms charge. I still need to visit the shop side of things but honestly do visit it if your thinking about joining a gym. It's amazing!! The unlimited electrolyte water is also a nice touch and super nice!! The only downside I would say is the app... it's very limited with functionality and features and would be helpful to track workouts etc but overall the gym and staff are 10/10!
