Roko Health Club Chiswick Bridge: Opinions
Fantastic experience: We take our son (2.5 years) to roko (now everlast) for swimming once a week. He has a one on one lesson with Eric. I honestly can’t describe the smile on his face when he sees Eric coming around the pool to get in with him. And he smiles for over half an hour (and Eric does so too). In a handful of lessons Felix is now freely swimming with a float and diving under water to pick up toys, jumping in solo. He’s exhausted by the end but clearly loves it. This is much more of a review of Eric than of the gym / pool (which is hard to comment on as we Only use it for the lessons) but it’s the happiest we see him all week. Thanks to the team - and of course mainly to Eric - we couldn’t ask for anything more.
Fantastic experience: I really enjoyed my time at this gym. I was quite hesistant to join initially, as the reviews were so bad, and it's a bit on the more expensive side for membership, so all of the reviews about bad customer service and non-professional attitude, not being able to leave contracts etc. was quite off-putting. However, I took the risk, and signed up for the one month-trial and made sure to not give any direct debit details, as I didn't want to be roped in to a contract. After one month of quite heavy usage of almost all the facilities: gym, pool, jacuzzi, sauna, steam room, classes, beauty salon. I think it was only the physio and the personal training I didn't take advantage of. I was very happy with everything. The staff were always very polite to me, always greeting me etc. I have no complaints about the people that work there. And after my one month trial, I continued my membership until I moved away from Chiswick. The gym is fully equipped with lots of machines and free weights. I could do all the workouts I wanted. And the pool and spa were always clean. It was never very busy, and I went all times of the day due to having shift work. I also enjoyed the classes included in the membership, there's a huge range. Some improvements to make this place better: - More staff should be in the gym area itself. Many times I was looking for someone to spot me. In other gyms I've used, the staff would be there to help, whom I trust more than asking some random person in the gym. - towels really should be provided for the pool and spa. It was such nuisance carrying home my wet towel... especially since the dryer in the changing rooms can only fit a swimming costume. Even if there was just the option to rent a towel for £1 that would be better than not providing the service at all. - Gym could do with various resistance bands Overall, really enjoyed my time at Roko. If I move back to the area, I will for sure sign up again!
Positive experience: I use the pool/spa area the most. I've been a member for over 10 yeas and visit due to its location but there are negatives. There is always something not working with the spa, generally its the steam room or one (or two) of the jets. The staff are generally pleasant, there is one male asian guy who continually stands out, always welcoming and friendly. Keep it up pal!
Negative experience: I’ve visited this gym several times with a friend while in the area, but I won’t be coming back. I recommend avoiding this gym. Many of the machines are out of order, and most of the staff seem uninformed. Also, you need to bring your own towel, which is a hassle. Overall, it’s not worth the price at all. This is, by far, the worst gym experience I’ve had.
Dear Imad, Thank you for taking the time to review our club. We are very sorry that your recent visit was so disappointing, and would like to apologise for any inconvenience caused. Having had a good look around just now, I can confirm that we have just one piece of kit out of order, from our fully stocked gym floor. We are awaiting a part for that, and we expect it to be fixed imminently. We are therefore unsure as to what you are referring, as everything else is in perfect working order. At the moment, we unfortunately do not have a towel facility. However, for the cost of a day pass, you have full access to the club and all it's facilities for the full day. This includes our spacious gym floor, our swimming pool, steam room, sauna and jacuzzi - we do believe therefore that the price represents good value for money. We are very sorry that your visit was not enjoyable with us this time around. Kind regards, Your Roko Team
Fantastic experience: World class gymn....great facilities and friendly staff
Negative experience: Like some of the earlier reviews have mentioned, the level of unprofessionalism of the staff here is beyond comparison. Their standard response to every query is that it’s the company policy. Cancellation policy here is also extortionate, irrespective of the length of your membership.
Fantastic experience: It’s great, people are lovely, the pool is massive and the spa circuit is very relaxing.
Negative experience: Very poor customer service. I bought two day passes and then they changed the rules - stating they couldn't be used at the weekend. The jacuzzi is always out of order.
Dear Erum, Thank you for taking your time to review our club on this site. Our guest passes purchased either on our website or in club can be used at any time the club is open. Unfortunately if you choose to purchase these via an external provider, they are limited to weekdays only. This is clearly stated on their website, and is not a recent change - this has been the case for more than two years. Our jacuzzi is fully operational. We do, from time to time, have to close it for maintenance or cleaning. We do try to limit the time it is closed for these reasons, however at times this is unavoidable. We hope that this clarifies things a little for you. Please do let us know if you have any further queries. Kind regards, Your Roko Team
Negative experience: I hesitated to leave this review since this is my local gym, but the level of unprofessionalism and lack of care towards their members is unacceptable. I discovered I was being overcharged for my membership—someone living at the same address with the exact same type of membership was paying around £25 less. While I understand there can be variations in pricing based on when you sign up, I felt deceived. When I reached out to the team via email to inquire about this discrepancy, my message was ignored. Fine. I decided to give notice to end my membership. On top of that, a personal trainer from this gym scammed me out of £200. I had no previous issues with this trainer and had paid in advance for sessions. Then suddenly, I went up to six weeks without any response from them despite having already paid. This is certainly not how you treat a paying client. This happened in June, and it's now September, and I still haven't received a refund. When I visited the gym in July, I was informed that the trainer was on holiday and not even responding to the staff. I was advised to dispute the payment with my bank, but that's difficult since I used a debit card. They seemed to not care at all that I had been robbed by someone they endorse and promote. It’s frustrating that in both situations, I’ve been let down and neglected by the staff. For a gym that charges over £100 for memberships, you expect a level of basic decency and professionalism. AVOID AVOID AVOID!
Negative experience: They’ve stopped providing towels which is disappointing - with their extortionate membership price, I would expect to be provided with towels at the very least.
Fantastic experience: Great little gym and pool, highly recommend Loads of equipment in the gym, which is bright and airy thanks to the massive windows overlooking nice green playing fields. Loads of classes, though you have to be quick for the popular ones as they book up fast Pool and changing areas always spotless, as well as sauna steam and jacuzzi area which is really lovely and never too busy. Staff are really friendly and helpful, and they've got a great roster of PTs (shout out to Stefan J). Cafe does amazing smoothies too. Loads of seating and decent wifi, sometimes see people on laptops working. Only bad things I can think of is that they've got no resistance bands and they stopped providing towels, but bringing your own of either isn't awful!
Negative experience: Lack of management, untrained Member of staff, misinformed by sales team, Bad attitude towards the Customer, No understanding about the circumstances whatsoever disgrace attitude and this club love your money Zero service zero attitude, zero management
Negative experience: If you want a lesson in how to drive a great business into the ground, Roko Chiswick is the one to study. They take weeks, sometimes months, to fix anything. For example, weeks to fix one of the 2 water fountains. The sauna literally had a screw sticking out of the bench that was there for a week. Then the bench quite literally fell apart. They didn't bother fixing it, just let people use it as it was. Eventually they closed the sauna to fix it, but it wasn't quick. The carpark gets flooded and is so damaged you pretty much need a 4x4 to use it. The staff are mostly ok except the tall guy with the bowl haircut. He has an attitude and really brings the place down. Actually the management are all pretty bad, but the counter staff are all friendly and welcoming. I have now left this gym and moved to their competitor after they announced that towels will no longer be available. Almost a year I've paid membership and had towels available but now in the name of "eco friendliness" they take this away. I don't care how you wanna wrap it up, you can't just take towels away mid membership. It's just crazy how bad it has gotten. The cleaning staff are great though. Never had an issue with cleanliness. Everything else is dud. If you can afford £80/month for Roko, you can afford their competitors at £100. Just go elsewhere is my advice.
Positive experience: I generally like the gym and find staff to be friendly. However, yet again there were no towels on offer today which is pretty bad. But the point about the very wet floors around the pool is significant because I too feel this poses a health and safety concern. It was not like this a couple of months ago and it used to be relatively dry around the pool, and unfortunately I feel it is a matter of time before somebody gets a break or a fracture.
Fantastic experience: Good facilities
Negative experience: The worst gym I have ever been to!!! Slippery floors around the pool with people constantly slipping and they won’t put down mats as don’t care about their customers or staff slipping and hurting themselves. Even children are slipping around the pool and they don’t care. The sauna is missing large pieces of seating areas and looks disgusting. It has not been refurbished in about 20 years. They often don’t have towels due to cheap suppliers. A few showers don’t work properly and most have low water pressure. The staff are generally very rude apart from one guy in the morning who is very pleasant. The rest are bloody awful to deal with. The only way they keep their customers is the 3 month notice period you have to give to leave. Avoid the gym at all costs. I would rather travel 2 hours to a gym than go to ROKO
Negative experience: A decent gym with friendly instructors but sadly I would not recommend joining. It's a big site with a lot of staff: based on the incessant marketing and the length of time it took them to (not) fix the spa, it seems clear they're desperate for revenue from new members. Frankly: based on the back office's dispassionate and mercenary approach towards customers, its not surprising their churn is high. Shame.
Fantastic experience: I love Roko and have re-joined after an absence of eight years. Friendly club, clean and well organised. After 10 months i love it more doing Aqua, Pilates and Bone Density Pilates and classes are always in demand. The Club also has a physio/chiro/massage clinic and a skin and beauty salon, Rachel Staggs Aesthetics. One could spend the whole day at Roko as there is even a cafe for lunch which makes delicious food and smoothies. Look it up now!
Fantastic experience: Great gym, friendly staff, not cliquey or showboats
Negative experience: Dropped in for a warm drink on a cold day as my kid had a match at the pitch next door. Nice sign outside advertising soup, latte etc. At reception I asked if I could go through the barrier to the cafe - the man on duty muttered “yes, takeaway”. Turns out you are allowed to give your money to Roko but not allowed to stay on the premises to drink or eat what you purchase or to use toilet facilities. I’m sure it makes the members feel very exclusive as they sit in the empty cafe area on their own but it’s a ridiculous policy when there is absolutely nowhere else to go anywhere nearby. Sort it out, Roko
Fantastic experience: Great gym value for money!
Fantastic experience: I dropped in on a day pass before Christmas to use the pool. The pool was closed for retiling though so I hit the gym. It's nice. Really big, has all the equipment you would want for serious training. The staff were very nice. The changing rooms, showers etc were fine, a bit rundown but generally nice. If I lived nearby and the pool was reliable I would say the £109 a month is about worth it.
Negative experience: Steam and jacuzzi have been out of service for over a week. Sauna feels like sitting next to a radiator at the best temperature. They have the highest membership in the vicinity with misleading advertising of services that do not work or work faulty. Moreover the pool is crowded with kids majority of the time not allowing adults to swim normally and freely. The tiles on all steam, jacuzzi and pool are chipped and could actually cause harm. The showers have no pressure and you have a choice of very warm water or burning hot temperature. No provision of shampoo and shower gel. They only have one product which is rather poor given the high price. The towels are not of good quality and have marks majority of time, or the “washing” had issues therefore no towels are provided. (Edit in 2024 : no longer offer towels) Reception stuff are clueless and rude. Young adults with an attitude for no reason.
Positive experience: Good gym, small but not busy so you get to use whatever you need without waiting. the machines are good quality however the dumbbells in the free weights section need upgrading. Pool/sauna etc are very good. Overall a great club and good for families, for 5* I’d need a little better free weights and a hack squat machine !
Fantastic experience: Hi all. I have been coming to this gym for years and tbh I like it. There is such a good team especially one guy, his name is Ditan ( what a wonderfully strange name) He charming and good looking lol Anyway I just want him to be credited for his great work (that I never see him do lol) Keep up the good work Ditan you really are special. One negative is that when I say goodbye I say ‘love you’ but he never says it back. Now that’s professional. Great guy !
Fantastic experience: Great gym Great Staff even better members : ignore the other fake reviews.
Dear Dean, Thank you so much for taking the time to review our club. We are delighted that you have been enjoying your visits to the club, and in particular that the team have been able to create such a memorable experience. We would most definitely agree - our members are fabulous, and make the club what it is! We are very grateful to have you all with us! Thank you once again for you time, and we look forward to seeing you again soon! Kind regards, Your Roko Team
Positive experience: Be aware the car park for visitor is at entrance just after the main road. The other car park with barrier gate is for members of the club
Dear Emmanuel, Thank you for taking the time to post a review of our club. We do indeed have a car park for our members, adjacent to the club. If you have arranged a visit, we will give you the code to access the car park in advance. However if you are just visiting, you are welcome to park at the front and pop in to the club, and we would be happy to give you the codes. We do hope you enjoyed your visit. Kind regards, Your Roko Team
Fantastic experience: I've been a member of this gym since it opened. The staff are friendly and personal trainers are experienced and understanding. Classes are varied, gym floor ample space. In my view, the best gym around.
Dear Marie, Many thanks for taking the time to leave a review on this site. We are absolutely delighted that you are enjoying the club so much, and in particular that you have found our team to be so helpful and understanding. This is a delight to read, and your kind words will most certainly be shared with the team. Thank you once again for your time, and we look forward to welcoming you back to the club soon. Kind regards, Your Roko Team
Fantastic experience: I was put off by the previous Google reviews, but I am glad I went for the tour. DITAN was very helpful. Gym and pool were very clean and not too crowded. I signed up for membership and am very happy. If you are looking for a nice Gym definitely book a tour.
Dear Renu, Many thanks for taking the time to review our club on this website. We are delighted that you did decide to come for a tour, and that Ditan was able to create such a memorable experience. He is a true asset to our team and we will certainly ensure he sees your feedback - thank you for your kind words. We are pleased to hear you are enjoying your membership here with us, and look forward to welcoming you back to the club on your next visit. Kind regards, Your Roko Team
Positive experience: Torunların ilk gün okul heyecanı
Negative experience: Ignorant reception staff. After many bad reviews, don't know why management still keep them.
Hi Quang, Thank you for your review. Our team are fully trained, and capable of completing their job roles efficiently. It is my understanding that when you arrived to the club with a guest, we asked how old your guest was, as our children's hours had already finished. When this information could not be corroborated, unfortunately we were not able to allow access. As a member, you are aware that we have specific hours for our younger members and guests, and unfortunately these had already passed. This does not mean our team are unable to do their jobs. I have spoken to all team members involved and do not believe that on this occasion they have done anything wrong. We deal with all situations as they arise, and from what I can gather, they were simply ensuring we did not have younger guests in at a time they should not be. I am more than happy to discuss this further with you should you wish. Kind regards, Your Roko Team
Negative experience: some bad staff. gave id to lady and says my id is fake
Negative experience: DO NOT JOIN THIS GYM AT ALL COSTS. I signed up at the end of May on a 3 month rolling contract as I am pregnant and due in December, I specifically mentioned to the young man on the desk that I am pregnant and did not want a 12 month contract as I won’t be coming past November. He understood fully and agreed to sign me up for 3 months. I tried to cancel my membership yesterday and was immediately told that I had been signed up for 12 months and cannot cancel until March 2024. Shocked is an understatement. This gym is evidently run by incompetent children and I am absolutely furious. I would never have signed a 12 month contract, full well knowing I won’t be using it past November. Go elsewhere, this gym are running a dodgy business and cheating their loyal customers out of their money.
Fantastic experience: Plenty of parking on site. Ask for the code on reception to enter and exit the car park. Staff were very welcoming and attentive. Expecially pleased that they look after the Spa area with such attention and switch on the bubble pool for you if you ask. Sauna and steam rooms very nice also. Gym itself has every bit of modern day equipment you could wish for too. Unfortunately the bubble seating and water jets are no longer working.
Dear Merrick, Thank you for taking the time to review our club on this site. We are delighted that your experience at the club has been so positive, and in particular that our team have been able to create such a welcoming environment. They do make a great effort to get to know our members and guests, and we are so pleased to read that they are making such a difference! We do hope that we will have the opportunity to welcome you back to the club again soon. Kind regards, Your Roko Team
Fantastic experience: Great health club With good location. I come every month to see Rachel Staggs who has a salon here at the health club and I don’t use the gym facilities but I do use reception and the cafe area and the staff are always friendly and helpful!
Dear Jack, Thank you for taking the time to review our club on this site. We are delighted that you enjoy your visits to the club so much, and in particular that you find the team here to be so friendly and helpful. They do their best to create a welcoming environment for each and every member, and I am delighted to hear they do just that when you visit! We look forward to welcoming you back to the club again soon. Kind regards, Your Roko Team
Negative experience: Very disappointing experience on a trial day! Since I felt very uncomfortable from the beginning based on the bad vibe from the staff members. As I left reception, heading into the changing room, some of them, including the guy working at the bar, presuming I couldn't hear them, but unfortunately for them my friend (who's a member) was walking in at the same time, he overheard them talking about me, judging me based on my appearance! Which was really disappointing, as you'd expect staff to encourage and motivate you, instead of judge and criticise people. This is very dangerous, to somebody who's of a fragile mindset and vulnerable. Certainly! Mick taking from staff, when their job suppose to be the opposite. is ridiculous as I went there wanting to change my life, for the better and left feeling even less confident then I was before. Very bad experience also because of the price which is higher of most of other gym, you'd expect the staff to be trained for providing superior and high quality service, which was not the case. I would never suggest to anyone I know to become a member of this gym, not only for my experience but also for the lack of value of the money you'll be paying. I'm so sorry about this, because I'd really liked the set up of the gym the spa and the swimming pool. I would have been a new member, if it wasn't for the bad behaviour of the staff members, which I assume is probably something they do on regular basis.
Fantastic experience: My second chill out place in Chiswick. Good to come around 12 to 3 PM as the Spa area is almost empty.
Dear Ginu, Many thanks for taking the time to review the club on this site. We are delighted that you are enjoying your time here so much, and that you are able to relax in our Spa area when it is nice and quiet during the day time. We do hope that you continue to enjoy your experience here with us, and we look forward to welcoming you back soon. Kind regards, Your Roko Team
Negative experience: After looking at the reviews I will not be joining, shame as it’s close by!
Dear Kam, Thank you for your review. We are sorry to hear that you would not consider joining the club at the moment, especially as you are nearby. All reviews on this site are subjective, and we would welcome the opportunity to invite you to the club, so that you can experience what we have to offer for yourself. Please do get in touch with us if this is something you would like to do. Kind regards, Your Roko Team
Negative experience: I trained at the gym for around 2 years, as did my partner. Generally speaking the gym is fine. A pretty straight-forward commercial gym. It is quiet most of the time, which makes it (mostly) easy to access kit, get in and do your session. There were a few few times where I'd end up cleaning up after personal trainers who would leave barbells, racks and pads scattered, seemingly too "busy" with their clients. The frequent weekend PT training sessions should seriously be re-considered, too. Many weekends a crowd of 10-20 PT's in training would descend on the gym and make whole areas of kit inaccessible. At best, they'd only be there for half an hour, but the teaching sessions could be running for hours on end. Not good. The main reason I'm leaving the review—is as others point out here—due to the authoritarian stance on cancellation periods for contracts. My partner and I relocated at fairly short notice, and were not able to give the full 3 month notice period. The response from Roko: "I’m sure you can agree it isn’t fair for me to waive your notice period, but not others. The terms are there to ensure all members are treated fairly. Please do feel free to write you honest opinion online". Let's be clear, Roko. This policy does not—and never did—exist to serve your customers. As per the membership terms, Roko it seems would not hesitate to "refer a debt on your membership to a third party company". Reluctantly we did pay up to avoid the bailiffs being sent. This does mean Roko has grabbed £600 from us for services that we did not, and could not use. A sad end to what otherwise was mostly a positive experience. Rethink this policy, Roko. I can only imagine this one review alone will cost you more than £600 in lost future members. I could be here leaving a 3, maybe 4 star review, and wishing your business well. Instead... here we are. So, as promised, Roko here is my review.
Negative experience: PLEASE DO NOT GO TO THIS GYM! Evil staff that misinform you and then gaslight you, disgusting. Sauna always not working, 70 quid a month, daylight robbery!
Fantastic experience: I have been a member at Roko Health Club for circa 10 years. The reception staff are very friendly and a credit to the club. The gym is a nice place to workout and the pool offers a relaxing space to switch off. I would say the most important aspect of the club is the members and staff. I can honestly say you will meet this nicest people and make friends for life. I’m very sad to be leaving the club due to relocating and wish everyone the best for the future.
Negative experience: Unfortunately while I went swimming, someone went into my locker and stole my necklace.Management treated me terribly and refused to accept any accountability or that the incident took place.Could no longer stay there due to not being able to trust that my belongings would be safe as well as the awful treatment that I received.
Fantastic experience: Lovely gym situated in a perfect location, plenty of parking, very fair prices to become a member, gym space is great although some of the equipment could be upgraded, the team at roko are amazing as always special shout out to hamza,Ana and Dennis who are always willing to help with everything you might need. Plz plz try to keep the spa functioning as this is not always the case
Negative experience: Sort out the front of desk , couple girls on there literally rudest people. Shouldn't be facing customers. Been going here 8 years, first time back after 6 months couldn't believe it. L
Fantastic experience: I have been a member of this club for a very long time and I must say I am extremely satisfied with the way things are handled at this club. They have amazing friendly staff who are always looking out for the members best interest. From the moment you step inside the building you are treated as family member with warm smiles and positive attitudes. The manager is amazing, the sales team are brilliant and the receptionist are superior beings. The equipment is all modern and very easy to use. I would highly recommend anyone looking to sign up to a health centre that this is the place to be!
Negative experience: Reception staff and gym team always really friendly and helpful and gym was clean ans smelt good. Like most of the negative reviews on here, the membership team members I dealt with were rude and their customer service was poor unless they wanted to sign you up for another membership deal. The gym itself is a nice space and always lots of car parking available but I left as I moved house.
Negative experience: Do NOT join this gym! 1. Staff are so rude and not helpful at all. 2. Sunna steam and jacuzzi is out of order most of the time! Every week another excuse! 3.they do not care about your well-being and treat their members badly! If anything this gym caused my anxiety and stress! Everytime I wanted to go and use the spa to relax! All out of order! 4. Classes are horrible! When I told them I want cancel my membership due to all the issues at ur club they were so rude and I was told I have to pay the 3 months cancellation fee! Why??? The reason I was cancelling it’s only because your facilities are always out of order!
Negative experience: First the staff are very rude, untrained and clueless. second once you join the club its hard to exit as they keep charging you and the say you didn't inform us even if you did, they care only about the money not the service. Very bad not recommended at all.
Fantastic experience: Love this little club. The staff are very welcoming, the facilities are modern, the classes are very good, the pool of a nice length for training, monthly fee is reasonable. Highly recommended.
Positive experience: Good facilities, only downer for me is there’s mould on the celling in the steam room not cool beans also they keep ringing me to sign me up cold calling
Dear wolfpackrides, Thank you for taking the time to review our club on this site. We were sorry to hear that you believe you have found mould on the steam room ceiling - having just checked this, we can confirm that this is not mould. Due to the nature of the facility, a particular type of paint is needed for this area, which is possibly what you are referring to. However, the steam room is cleaned throughout the day, and then deep cleaned every single evening after we close, so this is not something that would be missed. If you visited us on a guest pass, we would normally make a call to see if you would be interested in joining the club. However, if you do tell us on the call that this is not for you, we will of course not call you back. If you visit a few times, please just let the Reception team know that membership is not for you, and they will make a note on your registration form. Thank you once again for your time. Kind regards, Your Roko Team
Fantastic experience: Superb gym and facilities, v helpful staff!
Fantastic experience: It was the best Very clean Good quality
Fantastic experience: This swimming pool is great, and the jacuzzi is just fantastic! I don’t have classes here, but I would love to! The water is quite warm, with a cool breeze of coldness which makes me feel good! I would definitely like to come here a lot more!
Fantastic experience: Yes it was very good, very friendly and my favourite, the jacuzzi was working
Positive experience: Would love the jacuzzi to be working :)
Positive experience: Not a bad club, facilities could do with updating but for £15 for a day pass can't complain.
Positive experience: The staff here really make this place worth while, so friendly and helpful. Facilities are pretty good and clean, plenty of equipment to choose from
Positive experience: The club is great as a family club, kids can swim and use some gym equipment. Price's are reasonable. Staff are very welcoming. Some of the weight training equipment could be upgraded and some things added. But overall I think it's a great health club.
Fantastic experience: Great facility, all new and advanced equipment to enhance your training
Fantastic experience: This is a great gym run by a very friendly and helpful team, with excellent class instructors, personal trainers and new equipment. The facilities and measures that have been put in place are fully COVID safe, which is so reassuring. An excellent place to improve both your physical and mental wellbeing...enjoy!
Positive experience: Hygienic, friendly staff and new equipment
Fantastic experience: I really enjoyed aqua aerobics today. My first time this year.
Negative experience: I have been in the Club every day for almost two years until I relocated. Generally the personnel is not motivated and they do little effort to help. Facilities are ok-ish for a recreational use, hygiene looks ok for the local standards but I got warts probably in the sauna that was never cleaned... The main is issue is the management. I am currently having a very bad experience closing the membership as I ended up robbed of 3 months membership despite the given notice due to a good cause... Anyway, not many choices in the neighbourhood, so make sure you know your commitment. Gabriele
Negative experience: Disrespect for the basic principles of health and safety. Poor management. Some of the staff is very rude. overly priced for what is on offer. The pool water is often unclean and fumes from the kitchen, next to the pool, make the smell of fried food unbearable at times, the lanes are too narrow and become dangerous when crowded. It was very clear to me that profit came before any preoccupation for the well being and safety of their members. Very sad indeed.
Positive experience: Clean, big, equipped. Pricey
Negative experience: Anywhere that doesn't allow you to use the toilet is inhumane
Dear Alex, Many thanks for your note. As a private members’ club, we do reserve the use of our facilities for our members. There are of course toilets for the grounds, situated in the building directly opposite ours. These are for use by all non-members who may be using the outdoor facilities. Please do let me know should you have any further concerns. Kind regards, Kati Meagher Roko Health Clubs | General Manager Chiswick Bridge
Positive experience: My first impressions of this club were those of confusion. You enter through a gate to a largely empty tarmac car park. You'd assume the main entrance to the club would be the entrance closest to the car park but alas it is not. You have to pass down the side of the main building, leading to a gravel car park with few spaces but lots of pot holes and puddles. You're still not at the main entrance though! You then need to walk round a couple of corners to get to the other side of the building where the main entrance was hidden from your view upon arrival at the premises. It's really bizarre and I can only assume the architect had the map upside down when this place was designed! Overall the facilities are fine but they're definitely showing a little wear and tear e.g. the lighting above and around the jacuzzi area was out of order and the ceiling looked like it had suffered a large leak. The benches in the changing rooms badly needed varnishing and the shower area smelled of rectal gas.
Negative experience: Got spam i can't unsusbcribe from. :(

Fantastic experience: Love my new gym - great bunch of people and made some friends which always makes those morning spin sessions less painful !!!!!!!
Dear Paul, Thank you for taking the time to review our club. I am absolutely delighted to hear that your initial experience has been so enjoyable. We pride ourselves on creating a welcoming, friendly environment for our members and guests, and I am so happy to hear that you have found some like-minded people here already! Good on you for getting to those early classes – you will soon reap the benefits & start looking forward to them I am sure! Thank you once again, and we look forward to welcoming you back to the club again soon. Kind regards, Kati Meagher, General Manager
Fantastic experience: Love this gym, I left Virgin to become a member here, staff are very nice and helpful, the café is amAzing the protein shakes are the best. The reception staff our so good especially Georgia. Also the guys that help with the memberships and run the classes top notch, I would recommend to all my friends .
Dear Kal, Many thanks for taking the time to share your feedback. I was delighted to read your comments about our club, and so pleased that your experience here has been so enjoyable. I will definitely ensure our team see your review, and in particular will pass it on to Georgia, who I am sure will be only too delighted to read it. Thank you so much again, and we look forward to welcoming you back to the club soon. Kind regards, Kati Meagher General Manager
Positive experience: I recently joined this club. I mainly use the free weights area, attend Pilates class, use the pool and the Sauna. Customer service, face face, so far has been amazing. Katie at reception always gives an authentic smile. Adnan is always happy to see members and asks how the I am getting along with my membership. Georgie or Georgo, I think that’s her name, at reception is always welcoming. Reason I only gave 3 stars is the weights equipment (life fitness machines) are outdated and seem very old and battered. Considering the memberships fees, I am sure the club can afford to upgrade these machines. Pool area was always clean when I used it and so was the sauna facilities. Vicky’s Pilates class is amazing over the weekend. Great Coach! Overall I am happy with my decision to join Roko considering the bad reviews this club has had recently. So far I have had all positive experiences. Great front house reception staff..
Negative experience: "Pool is NOT supervised at all times", are you waiting for a tragedy to happen before placing some lifeguards there? Isn't it what we pay you for?! Everyone using the swimming pool had a right to be supervised by a rescuer. Such a shame that it always takes a bad news before something is done.
Dear Ma Ya, Thank you for your review. I would be very happy to discuss our pool supervision policy with you next time you are in club. Please do let me know when you are in, and I will outline this for you. I look forward to meeting you soon. Kind regards, Kati Meagher, General Manager
Positive experience: Given there Isn't much choice in health Clubs in west london, this has become the more affordable of them all.. owing mostly to the fact its in desperate need of a refurb, especially in the spa where tiles are missing inside the pool and a build up of dirt/mildew around tiling/drains is evident. The ceiling has bubbles from moisture & sealant missing from joins in places. The gym facility is spacious, the staff are friendly and approachable -not like other local health clubs which can be pretentious. The classes need an overhaul to accommodate those who work/don't fit the Chiswick housewife schedule. However the staff who run the classes are great! The gym equipment could do with a thorough clean -boxing bag has dirt stains & mats smell sweaty.. members should also be encouraged to clean equipment after use. There are holes/dings in the yoga studio, which can also be quite cool in winter -portable heaters have been know to be used in very cold -such a shame the studio doesn't have underfloor heating. It would be nice to have a bit more of a healthier snack/beverage offering available -who finishes the gym & eats a cookie?? The barista's are also lovely & friendly, they always know your name & welcome you. The club can be full of young kids during family times (weekend & daytime) esp in half term but they don't seem the unruly type which makes sharing the facility when you forget its family time bearable. The cleaner always seems to be in the changing room when I'm in (evenings) tidying up -especially after families! They deserve a medal!
Negative experience: I have been around 6 times; .Gym facilities are good and it's it's relatively clen. Reception greeting is hit and miss. I'm with Pay as you Gym so need to fill in a form each time so unavoidable. I don't know if it is because of this they can be less than accomodatng. I sent them an email as I had a particular issue on the last visit with my membership and the way it was dealt with. This was not a particular issue in itself but the way it was dealt with was poor. I sent them an email explaining my experience which they have ignored entirely so I would not go back. Last thing is their advertised opening times are when they want you out if the building by ie they close the facilities 15 mins before so you are actually out. I find this odd but is suspect it's sothe staff can get home. So not a good rating from me but that's really to do with customer service which is something personally value.
Negative experience: Save yourself the disappointment. Go to the Virgin gym down towards Barnes Bridge. Infinitely better.
Positive experience: I kind of like it the place, quiet and really spacious, not like in others gyms, you really have a space for your workout especially if you want to work on machines or free space on mats. Small space on free weights but as a health club I think there is no need for it.
Negative experience: Not a bad Gym bit run down but it’s the incompetent staff that are the downfall of this gym. Not only rude on occasions but when I left I was overcharged for two months and took me nearly 6 months to get a refund as the manager just kept lying and saying he’d processed the payment! As I say I wouldn’t go back just because of the staff
Fantastic experience: Gym has recently been refurbished and the new equipment has improved immensely. Steam room and Sauna is a great place to wind down after an intense workout. Roko has a very friendly environment overall, from the staff to the members. Would definitely recommend to a friend.
Positive experience: It's a good club for basic training.
Fantastic experience: brilliant facilities and very welcoming staff - great gym!
Fantastic experience: Really great gym, amazing facilities and really nice staff who are always happy to help out.
Fantastic experience: Fantastic service, staff and great use of facilities!!
Fantastic experience: Wicked health club, the staff are great and the gym has great facility’s.
Dear Richard, Many thanks for taking the time to review the club. I am delighted that your experience here has been so enjoyable, and in particular, that the staff have made such a positive impact. I will be sure to pass on your feedback to them. Thank you once again for your time, and we look forward to welcoming you back again soon! Kind regards, Kati Meagher General Manager
Fantastic experience: Such a beautiful place !
Negative experience: Dirty and filthy. I came over from Eden fitness and the diff was astonidhing. BIG LUMP OF HAIR in Jacuzzi. Next day same lump of hair in shower. Showers have distinct dirty smell. Equipment is very old. I tried to cancell my contract after 1 week and it has been 2 weeks waiting. Staff are rude and incompetant. Been chasing up my cancellation for 2 weeks and they cant tell their ass from their elbow. Contracts tie you in for a min 3 months notice period. AVOID!!!!
Positive experience: I've been coming here for about 6 months. I'm very pleased with it, and I like the swimming pool, showers etc. I do agree with other reviews that staff are hit and miss though. Some of them are lovely, some are not. But I also really enjoy all their classes!
Negative experience: Think very very carefully before you commit to Roko. The contracts are skewed heavily against the customer. I took out a six month membership while I was not working for a period at a cost of £80 per month for off-peak membership. Given that it was a six month contract I assumed that when the six months was up, the direct debits would automatically stop. I was, therefore, very surprised to see £80 disappear from my bank account in the seventh month. When I queried this with Roko, I was told that the membership was a rolling one, that is to say that once the initial six months was up, another six months would automatically start unless I informed them that I wished my membership to cease. I was then told that the notice period I had to give to end my membership was three months. Incredibly, this three month notice period applies to all their membership options, so that if you join on a three month contract, you still have to give three months notice if you wish that contract to end after three months. This was not explained to me at the time of joining and when I said this to the manager, he simply said that he had every confidence in the accuracy and honesty of his sales team. The concession was that I was given a two month notice period, but it still meant that I paid £160 for no use of the gym. I will never join Roko again. The contrast is that when I rejoined my old gym, Nuffield, they made a mistake in their first month's billing but apologised and then gave me three months' free membership. I would also add that Roko overcharges considerably for what is on offer. The pool is good but the gym equipment is second hand, third generation with patches of rust. I pay £30 more to be a member of Nuffield but I can go any time I like and use any one of 50 different gyms, all with better and more up to date equipment than Roko. So, think very carefully before you join Roko; there are plenty of better options. Peter Isard
Negative experience: Absolutely terrible. Nothing ever works there, the front door has been broken for months, gym equipment is always damaged / out of order & staff are obnoxious / rude. I recently left due to all of the above, I even gave 3 months notice, and they still had a debt recovery company call me!!! STAY AWAY
Negative experience: I really liked the gym at first, I was looking for a mid price gym I could drive too, and from google reviews I was aware of the 3 month cancellation policy, so joined with this awareness. I was told upon joining you would receive a gym induction and program, which you could update every 4-5 weeks with one of their trainers all included in the monthly price. I was aware this was probably a way to encourage PT, but was told this was not obligatory. This worked well at first, but after my second program the trainer became quite aggressive after I made it clear I couldn't afford personal training and just wanted to update my program as included in my membership. This got worse and worse until I felt very bullied, for example I would turn up to our session and the trainer wouldn't be there, I would either be told I had got it wrong, or as I was getting it for 'free' I should be grateful if he was there, and when I would say I felt annoyed at him not turning up he would get angry with me or refuse to speak during the session, the atmosphere was terrible. After a few times of this I felt so intimidated I couldn't step foot in their again. I made a complaint to management and it was handled well, in that my membership was cancelled but nothing was done about the trainers attitude. However, I joined another local gym and when I joined they knew the name of the trainer as they had heard similar stories from members who had also had the same experience, left and joined them. So beware, this is a mid price gym, that if you just go in and do your own thing you will be left alone and all will probably be fine. If you get involved with certain trainers you may end up being pushed into paying for PT, and treated badly if you say no. I am sure there are some nice trainers at this gym, but that wasn't my experience with this one particular trainer, shame one bad apple ruined the experience for me and others.
Positive experience: I have been a member for exactly a year and I must say that I have been dleighted with the club. I use the club for Spinning and Boby Pump and general gym work. I have found the classes and the trainers to excellent. I find the club extremely friendly. It is never full. Yes there are niggles with equipment and sometimes cleanliness but overall I have been very pleased with the club. Thank you
Negative experience: Dirty changing rooms, sweaty machines not cleaned for weeks, poor standard of service, swimming pool is dirty with sticky floors. would try another local gym, this one is not worth the money by far.
Fantastic experience: Local schools and sports teams have benefited from Roko's generosity - great to have a gym adding to the community.
Negative experience: Can't describe my experience as I couldn't get past the iritating sign up to Facebook pop up that won't clear from the screen even though I've clicked the not now button.
Fantastic experience: I find it very relaxing and friendly.
Fantastic experience: I’ve used to be a member and work here for more than three years. I love this gym so much. An amazing environment made by staff and the most importantly the members. The community is strong and dedicated which you’ll love. In a way I see it as a family which I’m proud to have been part of. I wish there was a Roko where I study!
Dear Nicolas, Thank you so much for your lovely review of our club. It is always a pleasure to read such positive feedback about our club, and in particular, our fantastic team. We work hard to create that ‘family’ environment you have described, and want all our members to feel at home away from home. We are a community here, and I am so pleased you were able to be a part of it whilst you were in the area. Thank you once again for your feedback, and we look forward to welcoming you back to Roko when you are in back in the area. Best of luck with your studies! Kind regards, Kati Meagher General Manager
Negative experience: Believe it or not i didn't even get a chance to enter the building. I have been trying to redeem two spa treatments purchased online for over a week now. I wonder why they have phone lines at all? I have tried all three numbers and have called on various days and throughout different times 9am, 2pm, 3pm, 5pm. "Leave a message with name and number and we will get back to you. " I have done this twice now, no response. Waste of my time and money. Also filled the form on their website yesterday for them to contact me, and still nothing. True incompetence.
Negative experience: Had been a member for about 3 years without really used the facilities (max 10 times in this period). But what really made me upset was that they had over this period increased the monthly fees without telling me. I would have been fine if they had advised me that their membership was to be more expensive from a specific date. But no, they just took money directly from me bank account via direct debit. Obviously I contacted them and told them I was unhappy about their business methods, and I was met with a really bad attitude of management of this issue that was very unpleasant from Roko's staff. Bare in mind they could see in their system I have been a paying member for years without using the facilities, so I guess a good customer............. But no, and when I informed that I would like to cancel my membership I was served with the 3 month cancelation period that I can hear many other ex members has been introduced to in a unpleasant manner, how bad service is that. - They take you money with informing about price raises - Give super bad service - forces 3 month cancelation period - Threatening you debt collection Mafia outfit, stay away.........
Positive experience: gym good but beware!!!! 3 months cancellation so when I moved house and tried to give them a months notice as all other clubs I have been a member of,they insisted on 3!!! even though I move a lot and join gyms everywhere, never again a ROKO even though the facilities are good enough, I think it is rip off
Positive experience: Even paying full membership, I often find I can't get to use the pool as they've booked it out at peak times (Sat and Sunday afternoons) to children's classes and aqua aerobics - extremely annoying.
