Fantastic experience: I love this place! The staff are always friendly and welcoming. The members are all different types of people, no "posers" and no kids Its the most comfortable gym I've ever worked out in. The cleanliness is a good standard too. It is expensive but I enjoy going and it's priceless for what it does for my mental and physical health. My only criticism is that the classes get booked up quickly.

Fantastic experience: I’ve been on the Joint Pain Programme for 12 weeks so far. Tania has been brilliant. She knows how to get the best out of people and I feel physically and mentally much better as a result.

Fantastic experience: With trepidation, I joined the Joint Management Programme and am almost at the end of my 24 weeks. Tania, my group leader, is caring, supportive and encouraging, treating each person as an individual and she has been the catalyst for this 'mature woman' to feel confident and uninhibited in the gym, and to understand how best to use the gym equipment to alleviate any pain/discomfort. I've tested out different classes and now visit the gym 2-3 times a week, blending classes with gym time. My next challenge is to re-introduce swimming into my life! I can honestly say I feel physically and mentally healthier and happier for having attended this programme. All the staff are friendly and helpful.

Positive experience: Joined the Joint Pain Programme and it has really helped. Twelve weeks of guided sessions, followed by another 12 on your own. All the trainers have been very informative and extremely knowledgeable. Haven't been able to use any of the additional classes, as they get booked up so quickly! If you need help with getting moving or alleviating chronic joint pain, this makes a good start

Negative experience: I have been a member of this gym for 13 years, and I have recently seen that it is now going downhill. There is a lack of equipment to use because the gym is so busy with people visiting the gym on the free passes. I’ve tried different times of the day but it’s always this busy. People are queuing for equipment! This is unfair to the loyal clients like myself who also pay for personal training but can’t make the most of the sessions! Really disappointing.

Fantastic experience: Am on week 8 of a Joint Pain programme from the Nuffield Charity. The personal trainers are welcoming friendly and smily. It feels very inclusive with lots of body types and people of varying fitness. Well done to the staff for being approachable and able to answer all sorts of questions. My trainer Marina is keeping our group interested and stimulated by her friendly but no nonsense approach. She's a good listener when we have advice sessions on lifestyle and feel she is not at all judgemental. She really tries to empathise and come up with solutions to our queries. I have learnt loads from her which I tell her on a regular basis.

Negative experience: Sadly wouldn’t recommend. It’s gone really down hill. Old equipment, faulty. They are also chasing for payment for something I never had. Staff booking mess up and trying to say I had an appointment which was rearranged and keep chasing me for money and now sending debt collectors ! For the sake of a message I never had. A joke. Horrid place.

Negative experience: For just shy of £100 a month the gym is terrible. 1 bench to bench press on, 4 benches at the free weights, 2 cable machines, 2 squat racks and 1 smith machine. Unless you are planing to swim alot I wouldn't bother. The only benefit is the pool and location if you live nearby. Full of old protensious people who think they are something because they have a membership here. More money than sense if you ask me as the place is certainly showing its age.

Negative experience: Nuffield Gym has a huge sign across it's building stating Health and Wellbeing Centre. In my experience it is one of the most damaging companies to health and well being. I was a member there for 7 years. During that time my mental and physical health slowly declined particularly during the last year I belonged there. The majority, not all, of the staff became unfriendly, focused only on those members that are physically very able. Nuffield Gym Mapperley do not cater for disability. They have one disabled changing room for the whole gym and swimming pool. The locker is situated inside the changing room. However you're expected to allow others to use the room at any time, so there for if you come to use your locker/ get changed you could find someone else showering in the changing room and you will be unable to access your belongings for however long they're using the room for. This is ludicrous, especially if you're wet and on the poolside. There is no understanding of disability. As someone who tired very easily I needed to access my locker and belongings quickly and easily. The whole point of a disabled changing room. But I was told this wasn't possible. At no point do they prevent non disabled people using the main charging room from accessing their lockers. I have an assistance dog who had been accompaning me for 5 years with no problem. Suddenly I was met with problem after problem every time I came to the gym, yet when it came to it there wasn't any real problem. But it caused huge anxiety. It is a very abelist culture with many cliques inside the gym. Classes are not adapted even though they can easily be. There is not variety of classes on offer. They're all the same under different titles. I realise this now I'm at a different gym and seeing a new side of things. Management are only interested in recruiting members. The gym is far too small to cope with the capacity of members it has. You cannot get on classes if you do want to. Personally I'd avoid at all cost.

Positive experience: Friendly and helpful staff, great gym, good selection of classes with good instructors, nice pool area, decent changing rooms, comfortable cafe, Downsides are that no towels are provided and the lockers don’t have suitable locks so the methods used (padlock, digi lock, card lock) are unreliable and keep changing.

Negative experience: Rude receptionist and the management don't bother about existing and new customers. I was told that they have got enough members to run this place and they don't bother about new members or feedback. This attitude explains all. For sure you can find a better gym and facility for less where the staff is more friendly and customer focused than in Nuffield Woodborough branch.

Negative experience: Same as many others. I felt unwelcome and ignored as soon I signed up. I left feedback several times but it was never addressed.I even contacted customer relations but nobody got back to me. I cancelled my membership after 12 months and nobody has ever contacted me to ask the reason or to try to win me back. Feels run by teenagers with no clue about customer service. David Menzano is the only person who appears to care. Facilities border line acceptable for that price.

Negative experience: I arranged to come here after seeing an advertisement online, with plans on joining the gym. From the second I walked in the gym I felt unwelcomed - I was refused entry and they were making funny policies on the spot as to why I was not allowed in. Staff were rude, would not recommend.

Positive experience: I visited this gym three times on a 7 day trial membership. The size of the pool was good and the number of cardio machines great but lacking in the number of weights machines. The sauna and steam room were good but could get very full. The sauna was especially good. I visited on a Thursday and realised my headphones were missing Saturday. I rang them up Saturday morning but was on hold for 20 mins and they said they weren't in lost property or could be found. I left my phone number in case they turned up but wasn't hopeful. I went to the gym again on Tuesday and asked again about them and they were in lost property? Nobody had rang me about them though.

Negative experience: Contract ended. I cancelled direct debit myself and they still took the ridiculously high payment of £54 which has now put me in debt! Over the phone I was told I could cancel any day in that month and it wouldn't be taken, which was what I did. And they still took it! False info!!!

Positive experience: There's no towels available for members, this was stopped due to COVID. However the hairdryers, which blow air around, and straighters in the changing rooms are available, with no alcohol wipes to clean those down after use. Which is odd as you're expected to wipe down all kit after use, to keep it clean. Almost like towels were just a cost cutting measure and members still have to pay out. Anyway, dust on the window ledges, mould growing behind the treads, a mix of new kit and outdated stuff. Recently signed and I don't think one staff member asked my name before selling me a membership. Not very welcoming.

Negative experience: This gym used to be good value for money. Gym equipment is now worn, towels are now not provided and their latest scheme is to remove all gym locks and make you bring in a padlock like a high school child. To say prices keep quietly rising this is not reflected in what is meant to be a premium gym.

Negative experience: Arranged a day pass for my son to try it, with a view to joining. As he changed jobs and was moving away, I thought it more appropriate for his brother to try it. Even though same surname and address he was refused entry and made to feel unwanted. Well you have just lost any chance of this family ever joining! Not impressed

Positive experience: Free weights area really small, lots of cardio machines. Only 1 bench press and 2 squat racks. Temperature of pool was uncomfortably cold, felt like 5-10 degrees. Must have turned off pool heating to save money. Sauna was excessively hot, 100 degrees on the thermometer. Few studios with loads of space and classes going on. Good clean showers.

Fantastic experience: Have been a member since May. I love it. Spotlessly clean. Friendly reception staff. Great variety of classes, can be a bit of a struggle to get what you want but worth persevering. Have never enjoyed or used the gym area but recently started PT with Tania to improve strength and overall fitness. Absolutely fantastic. I am really enjoying the sessions and the extra motivation to improve. Feel it’s making a real difference - Thank you.

Negative experience: When this organisation chooses to fail in informing members of the date they would need to apply for freezing the membership by then chooses to ask members to provide medical evidence of an existing illness that would lead them to be at greater risk from contracting covid 19. Avoid this organisation like the plague all they care about is your membership fees not your health and welfare.

Negative experience: I bought a day pass on Hustle but didn't read the small print and went on my bike with no photo ID. I had cash card in my name, credit card in my name, a photo of my passport to record details (but the pic was shady as it was taken to record details). I told them it was my last chance to use it, I told them I hadn't had a day before now, I offered to sign out of hustle and sign back in again - to demonstrate it's my account; but no, because 'they have to tick a box' 'we can't'. I've been before, hoped there was some record but no, no photo ID no pass. Even if you are joining for a year try the other gyms first because the only reason I was there is they do a one day pass. Roko, David Lloyd and Virgin all have 2 or 3 pools not one like Nuffield, all have a Jacuzzi - even DW has a Jacuzzi. Their USP is no kids... maybe that really is enough.

I love the classes, the friendly instructors, the free towels, the lockers that you operate with the membership card, the fact that non members can access the lovely cafeteria... and all the premises are so clean. Negative experience: Old equipment over 9 years old keeps breaking down. They have no plans to replace even after admitting its past its sell by date. Its also very expensive, if your looking for a gym try one with newer equipment and a lot less money.

Negative experience: Has required for a number of years now extensive, wholesale refurbishment, particularly the weights machines which are 10 years + old, bad plumbing design that's been an issue for years causes a stench of urine and the showers are old and grotty. The place feels tired and increasingly low-rent, it's a shadow of its former self of 5 or 6 years ago. Head office simply aren't listening to member feedback over these issues, they merely attempt to placate. The one saving grace is that the centre staff go out their way to be helpful and friendly, but this and a free towel no longer justifies a membership fee approaching £70 a month. Along with others, I've now cancelled my membership and I'm seeing out my notice period.

Fantastic experience: Nuffield - what can I say. Fantastic customer service, receptionists so friendly, food is delicious and reasonable. The gym is spotless and always clean, all the equipment you could ask for. The pool is at perfect temperature, sauna and steam room is amazing after your workout and even the ice bath is an added bonus. Definitely worth the money, thank you to all the staff for making me feel welcome - 5 stars!!!!

Negative experience: My brother's Rolex watch was taken on Friday. Staff not interested, they cant even be bothered to look at CCTV or put up a notice asking for its return. At least do something rather than letting thieves get away. Pathetic

Fantastic experience: I think the Nuffield at Mapperley is a great, friendly place. The reception staff are friendly and welcoming, the instructors are helpful, friendly and knowledgeable, and the other members are all very welcoming. Yes, this gym might be a little pricey in comparison to the recent budget gyms but the Nuffield does not operate a budget service. The environment is plush, with a pool, sauna, steam and ice and members are looked after by highly fitness professionals. The changing rooms are comfortable with free towels, shampoo, bodywash, hairdryers, straighteners, swimsuit spinner and private changing cubicles and showers. All the cardio machines have tvs with a wide selection of channels. Budget gyms do not offer any of these. You get what you pay for and I would much rather pay a little more (approx £30) per month to have a little more comfort and be surrounded with more mature clientele and less jam-packed that is often the case with the cattle market mentality of budget gyms!
