Fantastic experience: A very comfortable and quiet hotel with very friendly staff always willing to lend a hand, especially the young guy (it's a shame I didn’t ask his name). He’s a sweetheart and helped me with everything he could during my stay. Since I’ll probably have to return, I’ll definitely stay at that hotel again.

Fantastic experience: I just drove in to turn round and leave..

Positive experience: Unfortunately the bed really let them down. There was a mattress protector on top but the springs on the mattress were popping out of the side of the bed. The quilt was thin and did not fit properly. But the room was very warm. There is no blind on the bathroom window. The window is next to the shower., so you have to pass the window whilst exiting the shower. The window is below the beer garden and the road and passing pedestrians The location was perfect for us.

Negative experience: Hello all, we haven’t been to this hotel although I am utterly disgusted by the email I got back after asking to do a paranormal investigation here one day, I was very polite and asked very nicely, and also said it’s fine if not, and got a horrible email back, picture below, I’m not sure why this response was needed, that was the first time emailing them. If the hotel sees this, I’m am super unhappy, next time, email me back politely.

Negative experience: THIS IS A DIRTY HOTEL. Bleach water doesn't make it clean. Do not waste your money. This hotel is nasty and dirty, and the food was awful. And the staff and their service were even worse. The hotel needs to shut down and be rebuilt. Spa , jacuzzi is not working. We didn't even get the pass we asked for. And people who did had to get staff to let them in. We walked around, but we were told that these had been broken for the past few days before we booked, but we were not informed of this. Before our arrival. No one told us about this at the time of booking or afterwards. We were still under the impression from the website booking.com that this was a spa hotel. How very disappointing. And misleading totally. The room was dirty, the receptionist said l can only leave a message for the manager when we complained. No one spoke with us. And it was too late to book anywhere else. the sink in the bathroom was broken and glued back together. Rusty bin, dirty shower, water only dribbled out. There was no water pressure, there was dirty floors, cobwebs, and hair of all sorts on the floors. The carpets in the bedroom had loads of stains. Bed base was all torn and stained. The kettle had loads of limescale in it. But when we boiled it and poured the water out, the limescale kept coming out every time. So we couldn't even have a cup of tea. There was a flashing pedestrian light outside that came through the curtains. So, sleep was not an option. This was the worst hotel I have ever stayed in. I don't recommend any food. And the coffee was cold. We had to get our own cutlery as none of them were on the table.

Fantastic experience: Excellent customer service

Negative experience: The most uncomfortable, worn out old mattress I think I have ever slept on. Also mould growing in the bathroom due to zero ventilation in there. Add to that the music from the pub downstairs drowning anything else out. Not the best hotel I've stayed in for sure. Staff were friendly enough so can't fault that.

Negative experience: This place is awful, save yourself the pain of a terrible nights sleep in a dirty unwelcoming hotel. There are much better alternatives on the island

Fantastic experience: Underrated! Sure, it’s a bit run-down and not the cleanest, but the staff is friendly, it has a vintage atmosphere, good beds and their terrace is a nice vantage point for spotting interesting locals. The spa is a nice plus!

Fantastic experience: The room I stay in was a good size, the shower. Needed a bit more pressure as was not great but managed ok. The staff was friendly and helpful they do food there which was nice, the bed was comfy and sleep well.

Negative experience: our stay was far from acceptable, there was a postage stamp size television, our room was incredibly small, there was a really disgusting damp smell from the main toilets in the actual hotel. It was advertised as a gym spa hotel. Not a pub ( that didn't get customers) hotel, gym with a jacuzzi. A spa is somewhere you can get actual relaxation and spa treatments, not smelly, damp and just unacceptable accommodation. we stayed but ended going elsewhere for food and atmosphere as it was dead!!! would never stay again.

Positive experience: The rooms were not so modern but OK for one night stay as I was staying for a wedding very local to this area so location for me was great. The room had a dated TV and the facilites could have been better i.e more up to date plugs/ tv/mirrors etc but it was a pleasant sleep. Service was perfect and nothing was too much trouble. Free parking for hotel guests and access to the gym. The gym was good and pretty much had it all to myself. Thank you.

Negative experience: Paid £10 for a day pass at the gym, never again very small everything is close together and most of the machines are running machines or cross trainers. No free weights and everything is old. I would definitely not recommend going to this place.

Fantastic experience: I would highly recommend staying at this hotel, really enjoyed my stay. The staff are very welcoming, excellent service. I enjoyed the Spa all my food was cooked to perfection. My room was spotless very comfortable bed. I will definitely be visiting here again for the price the facilities included absolutely loved it here. I have also left a review on trip advisor if anyone would like a good location. Peaceful night to relax and Spa I highly recommend.

Negative experience: Booked the hotel as a last minute get away coming from Milton Keynes, The hotel looked rather nice online(definitely false photos) , we had the hotel booked for 2 nights, we arrived late in the evening (7pm) after travelling a fair few hours, upon arrival the staff greeted us they was friendly & helpful. We was assisted to our room, we booked a (Twin-Deluxe-Private Bathroom) Definitely nothing deluxe about the room!, The room was so small that was very poorly cleaned& maintained , A uncomfortable bed A tiny bathroom you couldn’t move in and a view of a cemetery, Our room located right above the pub, music going until gone midnight, Then people running around screaming&banging for hours afterwards. As the night went on after getting to sleep the fire alarm then was going of from 4am/5am. Several times!(set of as people smoking in the building). we decided to cut our stay short and take our losses, we stayed one night we wasn’t there for even 24 hrs. I will not be returning.

Negative experience: Faulty Towers .Stayed here a couple of years ago and it sounds like it hasn’t got any better. We left a day early and cut outs losses. Hope it improves as we would like to come back to the Isle ofSheppey. Good luck

Negative experience: We did not stay at the hotel so, I cannot comment on the rooms but we went in for lunch after being in the pub opposite to watch the football. When we arrived the place was deserted. No customers in either the bar or restaurant and no staff to be seen. The bar area was cold and the toilets freezing. It was 10 minutes before any staff arrived and then 3 came in all at once. There was only one beer on draught and only one choice of white wine. No fruit juices either. We asked for a menu and the only choice of food was: turkey roulade, prawn cocktail and fish and chips. We decided not to eat and left once we had finished our drinks. The pub opposite was full and this is the only other choice of bar so something is going dreadfully wrong. It is clear the management have no idea what they are doing: polite but clueless. I don't know how they are turning a profit.

Positive experience: Good car park at the rear of hotel but didn't see any notice informing me. Room was cosy warm on entering but later in night got quite cold and couldn't get it warmed up. I'm staying again so will ask. Clean room and bed looked so too. Plenty of clean storage places - a great bonus. Friendly staff. Didn't use any service so couldn't rate.

Negative experience: hotel with memager not suitable to do their job, I wonder how they can still rent rooms, I'll explain my trip, I arrived at the facility to stay 2 nights in this "hotel" in the middle of nowhere and we only stayed 1 night for the most part unpleasant stay without even any refund, when we arrived at the facility an Indian boy who was also quite rude welcomed us telling us in a very rude way that the room was not ready yet, my girlfriend and I said okay let's take the opportunity to eat something , let's start from the fact that there isn't a restaurant within a kilometer radius, and already there it was a problem, we said to ourselves, let's hope they cook well at the hotel restaurant (we were really hungry) when we went to book the table for in the evening we were told that the kitchen had not been working for some time. I'll let you imagine the panic, in the evening without any place nearby without having the possibility of renting a cab we were left without food all evening, it was truly a survival experience not to mention the breakfast included where they gave us two croissants bought at the supermarket with a little milk and two yogurts, really bad structure and (I'm not exaggerating) I'm leaving this review because I don't want other people to make this mistake of booking in a place where it's impossible to eat.

Negative experience: Do not stay here if you are attending a wedding close-by! We have booked 2 nights to attend a wedding at The Ferry House. Our experience has been so bad that we decided to drive back in the middle of the night after the wedding, rather than staying another night at this place. As many others have commented here, this has been the worst hotel we have stayed in. The cleaning standard, quality of the rooms and breakfast is all far from good but can be argued about and is not the main point of our frustration. The hotel is misrepresenting what they are selling. We have booked a room that was described to be ~40 square meters, containing a sofa and an extra large double bed. The room was tiny, there was no sofa and the bed was ~1.20m wide (see attached pictures) - not even wide enough to fit the two pillows. The two of us just about fit into the bed but any time one of us turned around at night, an arm or leg fell out and woke us up. Right after entering the room, we asked at reception if there was another one available to change into but were told the hotel was fully booked, even though there were just 3 cars in the car park (including ours and already after 9pm) and the public transport to the hotel is less than ideal. We believe the only reason this hotel is still running is the proximity to the very good wedding venue. Please don't repeat our mistake and opt for a longer drive or taxi ride to a different hotel after the wedding party.

Negative experience: Worst place to stay ever !!! All the staff is rude, everything is old and smells as mould and dust. Tv is the same size as a microwave. Never come to your room to change the bed sheet or clean, and I stayed 8 nights. On top of that, 3 weeks later, I received a parking fine because the hotel manager was not able to fill in the dates I'm staying there. Not recommend even to my enemies!

Negative experience: AVOID AVOID AVOID Where do I begin with this hotel ? We checked in and made our way up to our room. Communal areas were very tired, however the real shock came upon entering our room. It was a cross between and old peoples home and prison. It was dark, dirty and lacking in any form of taste. The beds were literally the most uncomfortable I have ever been on in my life. No pillow protectors, no mattress protectors and the duvet was disgusting. We then went down to the hotel bar to have a prosecco - they did not know what this was unfortunately so had wine instead. Luckily the weather was good so we could go outside as the smell was dreadful. It almost smelt like raw sewage. The only good thing about this hotel was the pub next door. I would not go back to this hotel if you paid me - please do not ignore all the bad reviews and go here - TRUST ME !

Negative experience: “Where do I start, this review cannot express how bad my experience was at this place. Stayed here with my wife for a 4 night getaway and to encounter a room that was barely cleaned was automatically concerning. Staying here during the summer, it was hard to imagine there was no working A/C and coupled with lingering aroma since arrival it was no surprise that we spent only 2 nights before seeking another place to stay.”

Negative experience: This was an awful hotel from top to bottom. Management was all over the place as we failed to identify who was in charge and the hotel had a disturbing odour, even had people smoking in the hotel! Never again

Fantastic experience: For the location and price I say perfect. For £40 I had a small single room, tiny tv but good size on suite. Comfy bed and hot drinks, desk and chair. Across the road a big shop. It looks like a pub downstairs but was closed that night. Big pub I could see around the corner that serves food if needed.

Negative experience: Do not go here. Our bank holiday has been totally ruined. We paid for an extra large double room. The room (cell) we got was miniscule and the bed not even a normal double. The window, such as it was, was only visible if you stood on the bed. When we asked for a refund the receptionist said he didn't know the manager's surname. The manager, Kevin-of-no-surname refused to answer any calls or emails. This room was ludicrous and we assume Kevin is holding onto his surname and our money for dubious reasons. Avoid at all costs.

Also received parking tickets from staying here even though my number plate was inputted at the front desk, fat load that did and all the hotel can say is oops maybe we didn’t put it in right or maybe there was a black out but nothing we can do. Disgusting attitude, disgusting hotel

Broken taps, hairs on bed and keys not working. Thank god for the pub next door and the friendly locals! Cleaning staff were nice but really nothing positive to say sadly about the place itself

Mel Wheeler 3 years ago

Negative experience: The man on reception was horrendous not helpful no greeting no advice to be given on anything. Couldn’t help with food service taxis the room size was good but in poor condition and not very clean. Wet carpet by bathroom pubic hairs on bedding dripping taps and pipes rattling through the night. View of car park from window. Even the cleaning staff said how poor reception staff was. Neighbours and pub staff across road and punters said how bad the hotel was and to steer clear if possible. The lack of empathy and communication was horrendous. No hospitality skills at all. Hotel looked ok from outside until u enter the rooms. Reception was clean shame about the rest of hotel. But cleaners were fantastic maybe they should get promotions as their hospitality skills were great and communication.

Negative experience: Sorry - It’s very poor hotel! I have booked luxury room with balcony, but been given double room in the loft area. In the room was no light bulb, tv not working, no tv remote and lots of dust on tv. In the bathroom was no toilet paper, no glasses, no cups, and tea or coffee, no proper stand to hang clothes just one wooden stand and few hangers. Instead of heating there was only portable flat upright electric fan heater. Towels was quite dirty and lots of coffee/tea stains on them. The temperature in the shower not set - either hot or cold water was running. Had to ask the staff to fix basic problems, but the person seems lots and was looking for tv remote and light bulb for a while - clearly the person didn’t know where the things are and didn’t know anything about broken tv. Was trying to fix the tv by turning on/off button. Asked the staff to change the room, but they couldn’t change just simple apology. The gym area was very poor and equipments was worn out and rusty. Only 2 staff per all hotel during the day.

Daisy Harris 3 years ago

Negative experience: Worst place I have ever stayed. Rooms were dirty, dangerous and uncomfortable and the hotel facilities were generally grim. In the rooms the ancient mattresses were not comfortable and the bedding smelt damp. We notified reception about the smell of the bedding as well as broken shards of glass and old food which we found in the cupboards and drawers. We were given some febreeze to mask the smell but the broken glass remained throughout our stay. Thank goodness only 1 night booked. Our bathroom was dingy, moldy, and the radiator and hot water tap were so hot that either could easily have burnt an adult, let alone a child. Rubbish breakfast options and no hot food served despite the menus in the rooms. I cannot recommend this place any less and I'm baffled by the positive feedback I've seen. I suspect they are writing their own reviews because no paying guest would have anything good to say about this dump.

Negative experience: ! AVOID THIS PLACE.! When we arrive we was greeted but the one of the owners (man) Ask where we booked from? So I got the email up and he gave us the keys I had to ask about the card park then he book us in the car park that was it! We had to find out own room, no directions! Then got interest the bedroom! Room 6 - bed has bed bugs! The bed was meant to be deluxe double but was 2 single bed pushed together! The was 1 bedside table! The wardrobe was horrible! There was no plug socket only 1 side of the bed. The view was horrible! Just see the roof of the hotel. The light going upstairs didn’t work very well so your walking around in dark, the light is 100 years old! Wouldn’t get a pushchair in there! It’d horrible! Room was horrible Bathroom - yellow light - water was cold all day and night on Sunday. The shower Tray was broken underneath. The pipe work was the best! All over the place and the taps are not great they kept moving. We went downstair at 7:10pm and there was people in the restaurant, none told us what time dinner stop or started or breakfast or anything NO INFO ABOUT HOT TUB! so we was meeting family as we can’t see them over Christmas, we wanted a nice sit down mean! But none said anything we went to the bar ordered drink but no cinder on! No Disaronno! Really cheap vodka like paint stripper, only 1 bottle or Zinfandel rose then they only had couple of bottle of other Rosa. Tables was all very sticky, the floor was sticky, The staff was very lovely ( Emma was brilliant) The toliet was horrible! There was wee in a buckets as you walked into the lady toliet. The lady stuck on wee and damp water! No hand dryer! Hardly any toilet paper! The lady’s bin in the toilet was very full! Over flowing - so it was on the floor! Men toilet- The wee was sitting in the pipe So that all you could smell! There was wee all over the floor. There was no toilet check sheet done! There was happy hour on from 4 till 8pm which isn’t aloud anymore! The music was horrible most of the time. This place isn’t a great hotel’ We paid for breakfast online then had to pay again! When we got there so we paid £13:50 each for both day and Sunday the mushroom was so over done! It was horrible ! There 2 different size breakfast! Mine - had loads! And my partner had - half a breakfast as mine was so much bigger! They had Buffet breakfast and there was nothing to pick it up with but your hand! So covid isn’t safe is this pub! £27:50 each day! For breakfast! So this morning- been told that I can’t have hot breakfast because chef isn’t in or something. Then open my yogurt and it was off - Mould - the bread was hard and stale’ The coffee cup wasn’t clean’ This was the worst place we have ever stayed’ Do not stay there!

Daniel Joseph 3 years ago

Negative experience: I parked here for 5 minutes to pick up my partner and daughter from a party hosted at this venue. There was no staff to be seen at reception for the majority of the night to give my registration and I have received a parking fine of £100. Do not bother contacting them as they will just tell you to sort it out and appeal yourself! Disgusting!

cal stamper 3 years ago

Positive experience: My room at the Shurland was clean and fairly spacious, considering the price, and even included a bath although the double bed was two single beds combined and the bunk’s mattresses were awful. Furthermore, breakfast was at most, lacking - the coffee machine was broken and the table wasn’t cleared before I arrived for my meal. There was also a consistent stream of old chart hits coming from the bar at the front of the hotel which was disconcerting during breakfast. The bar itself was pretty nice, with a pool table. There is a “spa” which i didn’t manage to check out, although I wouldn’t expect much. All in all, it was a fairly enjoyable experience for the price. I recommend it if you’re in the area with a small budget, but maybe not if you’re looking for holiday accommodation.

Negative experience: I didn’t stay at this disgusting place my 17 year old daughter worked there for a couple of days and said it was disgusting with bed bugs! They made her work hard on her own cleaning loads of rooms!! They still haven’t paid her the way she has been treated the place should be closed down it’s filthy and they don’t know how to look after there staff or even pay them! Scummy

Emma Price 4 years ago

Negative experience: Avoid unless you want to be bitten in your sleep. We stayed one night for a wedding in Room 10 of the hotel. Staff were friendly and the room on entering looked fine. However went to make a cup of tea and the cups had brown sticky stuff at the bottom and were dirty. The bedding had crusty bits of something on the base bed sheet (not sure I want to know) but the linen looked clean. Both myself and my husband woke up next morning and we were covered in bites! They look like flea or bed bugs bites so we are currently investigating this further to identify what type of bite they are. The general room was pretty unhygienic with draws full of dirt, and crumpled up sellotape and bits of hair. Continental breakfast was also bad. No coffee available, there were three tea bags left for the whole of the dining area and the meat and cheese platter was sweating as if it had been left out all night. The bathroom was mouldy and the bath itself was broken but this feels like a minor point compared to the rest of the hotel and room. I will be uploading some photos to TripAdvisor if you want to take a look at the state of the room.

Kath Butler 4 years ago

Negative experience: Please bare with me as this is a long review, but needs to be said if anyone is even thinking of staying here! After attending a Wedding this weekend, this Hotel was the closest one to the venue. We had booked a 4 night stay but left a day early as we couldn't stay here a minute longer. It was more like staying at Fawlty Towers!! The room itself was nice and fairly big, but rather dated and grimey. The bathroom had a bath/jacuzzi that didn't work and had mould round the side. The shower was attached to the bath so you had to hold it in one hand and wash with the other (not ideal). The hooks for the towels etc were hanging off the walls and door. There was 1/2 a toilet roll in the bathroom, when we asked for more they provided us with one roll about 2hrs later. Breakfast was a joke. The Croissants were no bigger than cocktail sausages (apparently these were bought at the mini market next door and where they purchased most of their stuff ie bread, butter, toilet rolls as and when). The coffee (if you could get any) as the pot was empty most of the time was weak. Very little juice left in jugs. We ended up going to Morrisons for breakfast and where we also purchased our own toilet rolls. When we ordered a drink at the bar we had to wait 10 mins for them to pull a pint, it was just froth. We said we would have Fosters instead, but they didn't have any, they were expecting a delivery but had no idea when! We ended up going across the road to The Castle, a very nice, friendly pub and £ 1.50 cheaper than the hotel prices. When we checked in we were told there would be no one on Reception from 10pm and we would have to use the side door should we get back later than this. They provided a separate key for this door. It turns out there is no one on Reception from 8pm and they lock the main door at that time too. We got back late and as instructed went round the building to the side door. There were no street lights, so fairly dark. The key they provided us with to get in wouldn't even fit in the lock. We were locked out! We walked around the building, peered through one of the windows and thankfully so a guest using the vending machine. We banged on the window to get his attention and he very kindly walked all the way around to the side door to let us in. We don't expect the Ritz by any means, but we do expect a certain standard. This is without doubt the worst Hotel that we have stayed in. They only plus side is Shar. A lady who seems to be running the show doing everything. She was very friendly and accommodating.

Negative experience: The only thing about this hotel was the room was clean. No cooked food as no chef! Breakfast was toast, cereal and apples!! Reason we booked this hotel was for he gym but check in was 2pm gym closes at 12 noon on the weekend. Not a very good hotel very dated.

Positive experience: The hotel is a very comfortable ,rooms are good quality and the bar is nice but the noise in the rooms from the bar ,road and the church clock which chime the hours thought out the night is unbearable. If your wanting sleep don't book hear which is a shame as it's a nice hotel . Breakfast was continental but good

Negative experience: Friendly staff, reception very efficient, room sadly was not very clean tho, needed a vacuum and a deep clean, noisy throughout the night by other guests and didn't help with the fire alarm being set off just gone mid night, the window in the room was so high and very dirty I had to stand on the bed to look out ( probably a converted store room) didn't bother with breakfast, I would not stay again but if your looking for a cheap stay with no frills then ok paid £65 but should of been £50

Negative experience: Arrived way after check in to a room covered in hair and had to request for the room to be vacuumed and a curtain was missing on a window that looks out to a smoking area which at any price is disappointing but other than that you get your money's worth. For 50 quid a night not a bargain just a budget room.
