Stamford Leisure Pool: Opinions
Positive experience: It's a fun pool but quite dirty today. A lot of things floating in the water (plasters, hair, paper)
Positive experience: We went to the float session this half term, lots of choice of floats. Was really fun and managed well. Pool was a bit colder than their sister one at Bourne so might not be ok for babies but was fine for my 5 year old
Positive experience: Great swimming pool for taking toddlers and under teenage years . Not good for proper swimming Has dad ome good water fountain features.
Negative experience: Dead flies in the pool, filthy changing rooms, disgusting showers. I have never seen so much dirt accumulate in a pool. Didn’t want to touch anything. Would never go back.
Fantastic experience: Nice pool. Clean and tidy. Good value for money.
Fantastic experience: Took the kids to their first family splash session here and had an amazing time. The wave machine was working and put on several times during the session, which the kids all really enjoyed. The slide was also running for most of the session, I think my son spent more time on this then actually swimming. Water temperature was just right, one of few pools where we lasted the full 90mins in the water without wanting to find an excuse to get out. All of the staff were friendly and felt very safe place to take the kids swimming. We also found the changing rooms just as good as some of the private gyms visited in the past. Warm showers and overall clean all round. The kids can't wait to return, definitely worth the visit.
Fantastic experience: Really good been there loads recommend it 10/10 slide a tad fast but great
Negative experience: It's a shame that swimming pools don't seem to have recovered from Covid and are still operating a short session for family splash of just one hour, meaning everyone gets into the pool at the same time and everyone gets out (and queues for showers) at the same time. I remember coming to this pool as a child, the wave machine and slide were a real treat. Children have missed out on so much with Covid and continue to do so. One hour sessions at weekends, often over a lunchtime, are just not feasible - particularly for those who travel to Stamford from places like Peterborough, where other swimming pools have closed.
Hi, thanks for your review, we are sorry you didn't feel your session was long enough, although we do run 60 minute sessions, the majority of our sessions are 90 minutes or more. I hope you will consider using the centre again in the future. Thanks
Negative experience: No one ever answers the phone
Fantastic experience: Aquafit is the best by far, thank you Gina and team for the fantastic classes
Fantastic experience: Sen session on a Tuesday brilliant, lovely pool
Negative experience: Changing rooms are not looked after, the floor is absolutely disgusting hair, mud, wee in the corners of the changing cubicle's and general dirt all over the floor. Staff should be monitoring the changing rooms! A quick hose down and a sweep every hour wouldn't hurt anyone. both male and female changing rooms was disgusting. Pool is very cold.
Negative experience: I am writing to express my extreme dissatisfaction with the service I received from a staff member named Toby Cunliffe at Stamford Leisure Pool. My recent visit to the facility turned into a distressing experience due to his unprofessional and inappropriate behaviour. Upon entering the leisure pool area, I approached Mr. Cunliffe to ask for directions to the bathroom. Instead of providing assistance in a courteous manner, he shockingly spat in my face. This act of disrespect and disregard for basic human decency was both alarming and utterly unacceptable. I was taken aback by the lack of professionalism and courtesy displayed by a member of the staff. To compound matters, Mr. Cunliffe then proceeded to light a cigarette in front of me, showing complete disregard for the rules and regulations within the facility. Smoking in a public space, especially within the confines of a leisure pool where health and safety should be a top priority, is not only a violation of policies but also sets a terrible example for other patrons. Throughout this ordeal, Mr. Cunliffe continued to ignore my presence, making it clear that my concerns and well-being were of no importance to him. His dismissive attitude only added to the distress caused by the initial incident. Additionally, I must note that Mr. Cunliffe employed vulgar language during our interaction, creating an environment that was not only unprofessional but also offensive. Such behaviour is completely unacceptable and should not be tolerated in any customer service setting. As a paying customer, I expected to be treated with respect and courtesy by the staff at Stamford Leisure Pool. Unfortunately, Mr. Cunliffe's actions created an unpleasant and hostile atmosphere, completely undermining the positive experience I had hoped for during my visit. I urge the management of Stamford Leisure Pool to thoroughly investigate this incident, take appropriate disciplinary action against Mr. Cunliffe, and implement measures to prevent such behaviour from occurring in the future. Patrons should be able to enjoy the facilities without fear of mistreatment or harassment from staff members. I hope that this matter is addressed promptly, and the necessary steps are taken to ensure the safety, well-being, and satisfaction of all visitors to Stamford Leisure Pool.
Negative experience: saying it’s open when it’s closed, what a waste of time
Hi Julia, please accept our apologies that you couldn't use the pool when you wanted to. Can you please provide some more details on where and when the pool was advertised as open but was closed? Please contact me via email [email protected] Thanks
Fantastic experience: Nice swimming pool. Shame the wave machine isn't worked or that you can't use the water slide when on a family swim session. Soo many silly rules now days should just be open Period. Pointless having it.
Fantastic experience: If I could give ten stars I would I witnessed an incident in the ladies showers a couple of weeks ago where a customer needed first aid both Harlee and Billy acted immediately they we’re both amazing and quickly took control of the situation and were so calm and knew exactly what to do I have no doubt of the high level of training that lifeguards must receive after having witnessed this I feel so safe whilst enjoying my swimming
Hi Angela, thank you so much for your kind words and feedback. We will make sure this is passed on to both Harlee, Billee and the wider team.
Positive experience: Great pool, shame that you have to book slots now and no one ever answers the phones.
Positive experience: Good facilities but very cold inside
Negative experience: The changing rooms were gross, the floors had yellow mold on and they stank. The life guard didn't seem to care. Really couldn't go again.
Negative experience: 24 times I have tried calling, just to ask.a simple question but no one is picking up and when they do pick up THEY HANG UP!!! Certainly wouldn't recommend if this how reception is going to be to start with.
Positive experience: Wonderful experience. The lifeguards were exemplary.
Negative experience: I have been going to Stamford leisure pool for 15 years, I think they must be struggling with costs as the wave machine hasn’t worked for about a year now, obviously not bothered? Changing rooms stink, it’s a shame because I used to love going there as it’s my town we now go to Corby swimming pool.
Hi Samantha, thank you for taking the time to write a review. I'm sorry you haven't been happy with the facilities at Stamford. If you could please email the General Manager of Stamford pool [email protected] he would be happy to discuss your concerns. Thanks
Negative experience: Me, my mother and step father attended the pool today on the 1st august 2023 at 6:30pm. We were half hour into the session and as I was getting down into the pool I lost my footing and slipped. Shortly after, one of the lifeguards approached my stepfather and told him they got tipped off by a member of the public that he was drunk even though it was me that had a little slip. Due to them wanting him out, me and my mother decided to leave with him. When I asked for a refund they said because we had half our session we aren’t entitled to it even though we were forced out. Absolutely shocking service, not to mention the lifeguards are on you 24/7 saying don’t do this don’t do that. I suspect it was the lifeguard who made the claim because he was wanted to deal with less people. I will be taking it further and make a complaint about the dangerous flooring that can cause further damage to members of the public. AVOID THIS POOL AT ALL COSTS watch when I take legal issue, pathetic useless staff
Hi Ryan, thank you for taking the time to write a review for Stamford Pool, I'm sorry your visit wasn't a positive one. It would be good to discuss the issues raised in your review further, if you would like to do this please email the General Manager of Stamford [email protected] Thanks
Positive experience: Great pool for kids to have a play swim. Water was a litter colder than other places, so it was not very suitable for babies. Was reasonably clean and tidy for its age.
Positive experience: Great place, nightmare to book in as nobody seems to want to answer the phone!! Took 1 hour and a half for someone to answer the phone last time, trying to book again and yep! Nobody wants to answer
Positive experience: It's great for the children with water slide. I would really appreciate it if they had facilities like sauna and possibly a hot bath with jacuzzi to extend the experience for adults.
Positive experience: First visit in a few years. The pool is still great but the changing rooms need more regular and thorough cleaning and the toilet cubicles a very deep clean. Not great with young children.
Negative experience: We have been coming to Stamford pool for >20 years and have previously had good experiences but were so disappointed with our recent visit for family swimming. The male and female changing rooms were absolutely filthy, stank of wee, several toilets had been used and not flushed/cleaned, there was what looked like several days worth of grime on the floor and collecting round the drains, 3 out of 5 showers out of order in the ladies, and the whole place was cold, in and out of the water. We had brought a baby and toddler and despite showering them off and dressing them promptly their teeth were chattering throughout. The mats in the baby pen in the changing rooms were absolutely wringing wet on the floor so I could not put my baby in there once he was dressed. The water temp was shown as 29 degrees on the wall but was apparently measured at 4pm (we were there at 3.30) so perhaps not updated for ~ 24 hours and the pool temperature only felt warm enough in one area where the filter outlet was, the shallows of the pool were very cold. We were also disappointed that the wave machine didn’t run at all during our swim. Such a shame- we will be going elsewhere next time.
Positive experience: Pool was great, just the changing rooms could maybe do with a bit of work, but overall fine
Fantastic experience: Nice pool
Fantastic experience: Lovely. Clean and when I went at 2pm on a Wednesday it was empty.... lovely
Fantastic experience: We had a wonderful time! The staff were helpful & the lifeguards we keeping everyone safe too, the pool was the right temperature, there was a slide and some other water features that were really fun! & the price was very reasonable! An hour time slot we got & that's all that you need! Will definitely be making the trip to come here again instead of our local swimming pool!!
Negative experience: Can’t seem to book online, have to create membership just to do it online and keeps saying email is already an account when it isn’t I just made one up! Total waste of time!
Negative experience: We came here today with our two girls and we wasn’t aware we had to book nore that it was card payment only the man on the desk was rude not smile nothing he had no experience with customer service I will not be coming her again I left with two very unhappy girls sort your staff out !!
Fantastic experience: Went to Stamford Leisure Pool this morning for the under 4s parent and toddler swim water was nice and warm, friendly staff and clean changing area /poolside! We will definatly be returning thank you
Thanks for your review, I will pass your comments onto the team
Fantastic experience: Nice chilled out swim. First time in a few years.
Welcome back and thanks for the review
Positive experience: Extra helpful staff. Clean and well kept pool. Good disabled facilities.not too crowded, far less folk than pre covid. We would have preferred longer than an hour but appreciate the reasoning. Lockers and wave machine were out of action on this occasion.
Thank you for your review
Positive experience: Good leisure pool with fountains and a slide, plus free parking. Love the beach style shallow area for the little ones. Very affordable prices. I will definitely go again.
Thanks for your review, we're glad you enjoyed your visit
Positive experience: Enjoyed the 1 hour session i had with my family. The only reason i haven't given 5 star is because they hadn't activated the wave machine
Thank you for your review, We're glad you enjoyed your session
Negative experience: Freezing. Lockers are annoying (20p piece needed and you don't get it back, and reception can't change your money for you as they don't have cash ♂️). It's freezing. Pool is tired looking. If they spent a bit of money to freshen it up and turn the heating on it would be a lovely little pool. Did I mention it's also freezing.
We're sorry you didn't enjoy your visit to Stamford, the pool temperature is maintained between 29-30 in line with industry guidance. We hope you will use the pool again in the future.
Positive experience: The enjoyment of our swim yesterday was hampered by the fact that staff were scrubbing the pool side floor with brushes, that they repeatedly dipped into the pool. This happened in front of, and beside us, and the other people using the pool. Surely that's not very hygienic?! If it has to be done, can't it wait until the 45 minute session has finished and the pool is empty?
Hi Martin, thanks for feedback and I apologise for the experience we created, will have a chat with the team around the timing of the necessary cleaning. Take care
Fantastic experience: Great pool and excellent swimming teachers
Positive experience: A nice place to go with the kids. Hit an miss if the wave machine or flume is working.. Usually if one is going the other is not. Not as warm as other pools I have been to but ok once you are in.. Could really do with the heating up in the change rooms.
Negative experience: We took our young son swimming there and had to cut our session short because the temperature was dangerously low and our sons lips were turning blue. To be clear he doesn't have any conditions that would cause this and after checking we found the temperature was lower then pretty much everywhere reputable suggests for babies. We told them and they said it would take too long to increase the temperature. They absolutely should not be allowing babies into the pool and it's so irresponsible that they would do this. Edit: in response to their reply. This is lower then the recommended temperature for babies as per most reputable sources. I'm not sure if you've misunderstood when reading but 30 is the minimum and not recommended, 32 is recommended for babies, it was closer to 29 when we were in so the temperature now is kind of irrelevant. Your point is also completely invalidated by the fact our babies lips were turning blue. Despite this you intend to keep it at the current temperature and keep advertising to babies even though you have actual evidence and reports that it's dangerous. Well done in your reply on admitting what an awful establishment you are.
Hi Sam, I apologise that you did not enjoy your session today. I'm at Stamford now and have just taken a pool temperature reading. It is currently 29.89 degrees, we aim to keep it at 30 degrees. The guidance for leisure pools is 28-30 degrees. In terms of additional heating of the pool for certain sessions, you were correctly told that this is not plausible. It would take a handful of hours to increase the temperature by a noticeable amount and this is not possible in a multi-use leisure pool. Kind regards, Contract Manager
Fantastic experience: Mind blown! A chuffing great experience from start to finish. It was a mild Thursday morning in August when I visited the pool for my first time. The lass on reception was nothing short of sensational in her ability to welcome me and my girl in for our toddler splash session. The facilities far exceeded my expectations and we had such fun splashing and swimming in the pool. There was a swim lesson in action and the coach clearly loved his job...he blew that whistle with such authority it gave me goosebumps and the lass who had previously been on reception now looked over us like a guardian angel ensuring our safety. To finish with we changed in the large dressing area whilst cascada and dj Sammy blasted out over the stereo...after staying to finish our disco we left with smiling faces.
Thank you for such a fantastic review! I will ensure your review is passed onto the team.
Negative experience: Location is about the only thing going for this place...it's so old and run down (never changed since I was a kid) and the staff look so unhappy :/
This is a disappointing review for us, particularly that you found the team to look unhappy. The building is old but we're doing everything we can to provide a fun experience for our customers and the team are key to this.
Negative experience: Filthy and cold…everything I hate about U.K. swimming pools in one short experience
Hi Amy, I we are very disappointed to read your review. Sorry that you didn't enjoy your experience. Please get in touch so that we can directly address your concerns, particularly around cleanliness. We would then love to welcome you back for a free visit to make up for your previous one. In terms of the water temperature, it is a constant 30 degrees which is ideal for a leisure pool. Surprised that you found it to be cold. Thank you, Contract Manager
Negative experience: Disappointed with this place, the slide is never in use, and there is nowhere to dive in
Hi Qais, we're sorry that you were disappointed with the centre. The slide is only in use during certain sessions - these being Family Splash sessions. As restrictions have eased, we have been introducing more and more of these sessions to our timetable. In terms of diving, the pool is not deep enough to allow unfortunately. It is a leisure pool and not designed for diving. Kind regards, Contract Manager
Negative experience: Just so cold
Fantastic experience: Decent sized pool for kids. Love the wave machine and slides. Good entry price as well.
Negative experience: Staff are useless. Twice now my child has been moved up a level in swimming and the office staff have made mistakes with adding her to the system for correct times of new classes! Caused her to miss a weeks lesson and refused a refund! Hope when they build the new leisure centre they get all new staff who know what they are doing!
Positive experience: this is a old and quiet gym but you are still able to do the basics, the staff will help you when ever and are great to talk to. this is great for swimming and the kids enjoy it.
Negative experience: Absolutely filthy and disgusting changing rooms. Wouldn’t let my kids touch anything.. and toilets are absolutely vile.. I didn’t feel particularly confident in the hygiene of the showers. Water in pool freezing. Over £12 for an hours worth of swimming. Wouldn’t want more than that to be honest due to temperature but kids disappointed to be turfed out. Made a deal with my sister (we take our kids swimming together) that we will not ever return here. Came out feeling grubby and like I wanted a refund. I doubt anyone from the company read these reviews as nothing is ever addressed with the cleanliness. They’ve lost our custom for good.
Negative experience: Took my wife and kids. The lady with short hair at the reception was extremely rude with a massive attitude problem. She really needs to work on her customer service skills she obviously doesn't have any. Worst swimming pool ever disgustingly dirty and cold. Massive disappointment will not be returning
Positive experience: Contains both an indoor and outdoor pool Good fun
Negative experience: Miserable staff, dirty and cold changing rooms & toilets. Life gaurds do not inspire confidence? It might seem like good value, until you step inside the changing rooms and it all changes! If this is council run, it's a disgrace!!!
Fantastic experience: Would definitely recommend! Great value and fun for everyone.
Fantastic experience: Lovely staff and pool will visit again soon
Negative experience: Changing rooms are mostly mouldy. Plus theyre freezing cold. The whole place needs a deep clean. Toilets look as if they have never been cleaned. My family avidly avoid here at all costs
Fantastic experience: Very fun time.
Fantastic experience: A home away from home! really friendly staff a great facility for all the family.
Positive experience: Good little leisure pool for young children- splash area, bubbles, small waterfalls and wave machine. Friendly staff and attentive lifeguards. The water is generally warm. No café, but some vending machines. However the changing room can be rather grubby and quite cold.
Fantastic experience: Friendly helpful staff :)
Fantastic experience: Great team, fantastic clean and inviting facility. Welcomed by Beth the manager - thumbs up from me!
Fantastic experience: Always a pleasure coming to this centre! Staff are all very friendly and helpful.
Fantastic experience: Good value for money, nice staff and good 25m section in the pool for lane swimming!
Fantastic experience: Thoroughly enjoyed my swim today. Had a look around the gym and it looks great value for the price. Would not hesitate to go back.
Negative experience: I can't say about the gym or it's facility's as I don't use it. Firstly you're "greeted" by a miserable looking receptionist who obviously hates her job and takes it out on customers by being rude and unwelcoming, after she snatches your money you walk to the changing room where if you a vigilant you will see a sign hanging on by one drawing pin and nearly falling behind a vending machine informing you to put shoe bags over your shoes before entering to prevent foot problems spreading and how important it is, only to find the bag dispenser empty and judging by the dust on top of it, hasn't been refilled in a while. You then go into the freezing cold changing rooms where you can eventually find an undamaged locker, take a pre swim shower in algae floating shower room which is situated right next to the foul smelling, pissed stained floor of the toilets. After you washed of the rude welcome, the cold locker room and the dirt and smell of the locker room you then go into the "leisure pool" where the spectators boil on the side whilst the swimmers freeze in the water. In the pool itself are a few features like a an umbrella water fall, a fountain that squirts multiple streams of water and a little bubble spa that doesn't work. So 2 out of 3 of the very standard features actually work. There is an area of the pool which is about 1meter deep, which is clearly for children to have fun jumping in, which would be great if the ladder wasn't wrapped round in rope and tape which states that it's out of order and has been for months, when asking a lifeguard why it's still broken and when it be will fixed you get the same look you're "greeted" with plus a shrug of the shoulders and the back of the person you ask as they walk away from you. You can rely on the lifeguards to look miserable as you're children stand in the cold waiting for 15 mins to go on a rusty un-maintained water slide, which results in your child drying off only to be plunged back in to cold water where the lifeguard is looking at anything but the swimmers. Whilst on the topic of the lifeguards they all look like they could do with saving as they all have lost the will to live and I doubt any would be able to muster up the enthusiasm to help anyone who was struggling in the water. They just blow the whistle and use the rest of the energy to point at someone who's doing wrong. After your swim you can go and sit on the spectators side and cook whilst you wait for your party and spend a quid on a packet of crisps or 1.50 on a chocolate bar. There's no coffee. Or cafe. Just plastic furniture that you have to pay 2 quid to sit on if you're not swimming. Make sure you don't leave anything there either as when when we left there were about 3 members of staff in the reception area but when we needed to recover a swim suit left behind there was no one to pick up the phone. I'm sure there was but they just didn't answer it. Years ago this place would be packed. It had a cafe the staff were friendly and helpful, the faciltys worked and were clean, the water was warm and the air was cool. It's horrible to see something that attracted familys from stamford and it's surroundings go down hill so badly. We will not be going here again and we are a big family that spend a lot to get in on admission and then on snacks. It's a real disappointment that it's has been let to get in this horrible condition. New ownership is needed.
Negative experience: For two weeks now the shower in the disabled changing room is boiling hot and there is no way of altering temperature... it is way to hot to use (steaming) I will not let my disabled child use it.. I have informed staff and nothing has been done... no warning sign etc. My fear is a carer could place a disabled person into this shower (normally a warm temperature) and seriously burn them... come on Stamford Leisure Centre
Negative experience: Waste of time. Customer service needs to be a zero star. Never answer the phone at all
Negative experience: Arrived at 11.25 paid for two children to swim and two adults to spectate, thought we would let the kids swim for a couple of hours, only to be told at 12.15 that the session was over and that if we wanted to stay we would have to pay again to go into the next session. We checked at reception, and absolutely nowhere were the session times displayed. When my wife complained she was told by the woman on reception that she had been telling everyone that she could about the time the session ended, which was obviously untrue as she didn't tell us even though she had ample opportunity. I really think some sort of warning was in order if you are going to get less than an hour's swim.
Negative experience: The changing facilities for the swimming pool are absolutely disgustingly dirty. I have written to the manager but have received no response
Negative experience: I have to say I am not very impressed with this company as a whole. I'm not discriminating against this location per say but I have to say this is company is not a very good organisation and I would not recommend anyone to use this. After cancelling my membership I had a final notice come through I then followed with a hand written letter sent to them saying that I was willing to pay the instalment and if they wished to contact me they could and after 3 months of no contact i finally received a letter from the debt collectors which I was not happy about as I had sent a letter to them instructing them to contact me and that I would pay the instalment and they completely ignored that letter! Overal not a happy experience!
Negative experience: Just been swimming with kids paid £12.80 and after 1 hour they told me and kids to get out coz the session was over even though there was a general swim session after we was told to pay again if we wanted to stay
Fantastic experience: My favourite leisure pool, behind the regional pool in peterborough
Positive experience: Good pool for all! Wave machine, shallow area and gym!
Positive experience: Kids enjoyed it. Facilities a bit dated and getting dirty. Staff are a mixed bag. Some very friendly, others go through the motions and are incapable of thinking of the customer experience.
Positive experience: I'm going to give Stamford swimming pool at three star review because I found it quite dirty in the swimming pool area plus the changing rooms and toilet areas were disgusting badly in need of a good clean and the swimming pool was overcrowded by 11 o'clock and impossible to swim
Negative experience: Greeted by friendly and helpful staff. I was basically interessed in the fitness room which I found ok, but in dire need of a cleaning. I would have taken a quick swim but the showers and locker room were filthy. I would unfortunately never go back due to the lack of hygiene and can only wonder why it is allowed to stay this way. Lack of funds or concern?
Positive experience: This pool is great it's not a serious swimmer pool it's a leisure pool I do admit the toilets and changing rooms arn't great but the swimming experience and the all time fun was great I love swimming here just for fun the water isn't dirty it's very clean it's not Olympic standard but I still think it's a great pool though
Negative experience: Dirty, dirty, dirty, flys crawling around the drain in the showers and the toilets. A dirty scum mark at the waters edge all arround the pool, black bits on the pool floor along with floating plasters. Staff are unfriendly, unapproachable & miserable. They sit slumped in the lifeguard chair at the poolside or facing away from the water. I have little faith that any of them could help if a swimmer were in trouble. There is no continuity with the water temperature, cold one day warm the next.
Fantastic experience: Nice pool and some good staff
Positive experience: Good pool if you have children, warm with a large splash pool area
Positive experience: Good pool polite staff very helpful nice pool
Positive experience: This is a supposed to be a place to improve your health and fitness. So I was more than supprised to see two members of staff that were obese and one of the was the duty manager. This is not acceptable.
Positive experience: Only 3.20 for a swim so good value. Parking is free and away from road with no barrier if you are in a campervan. Pool is a strange shape which means only 1 lane for serious swimmers as well as pool side features which you can easily hit your hand on when doing front or back crawl (I did anyway)
Negative experience: It was overcrowded, even allowing it was half term ( should have had sessions). No swimming lane for serious swimmers.Equipment ( slide) especially was rusty . The queue for the slide was ridiculous, letting 1 person up at a time and having to let them slide down before letting the next one up and then closes after 5 minutes..
Fantastic experience: had sooo much fun
