Meon Valley Hotel, Golf & Country Club, located in the picturesque environment of Southampton, offers a mix of experiences for guests. - Various amenities including a golf course and spa facilities, though some may incur additional charges.
- Friendly staff, with particular praise for individuals like Christos and Esteban who have provided excellent customer service.
- Decent food offerings in the bar and restaurant, particularly enjoyed by those attending golfing events.
- Perfect location for pre-cruise stays with convenient parking and taxi transfers to Southampton port.
Areas for Improvement:

- Facilities are described as outdated, with some rooms needing significant refurbishing.

Meon Valley Hotel, Golf & Country Club: Opinions
Positive experience: interesting hotel there's an appearance of quality when you drive in and go into the reception, but there's definitely an under belly. It needs something but I can't quite put my finger on it. My double room had one poor electric heater, but I loved the black out blinds. The bar and restaurant again is an interesting place, loads of space and nice comfy bits, but let down by staff looking fed up and negative. It certainly didnt exude welcome and please comeback which is a real shame!! The food wasn't to bad in fairness (lamb) so no criticism there albeit well overpriced for what it is. Overall would I come back. It's a no, but great for contractors as there are many here.
Fantastic experience: When I checked in there was a problem with my booking . However, Christos on Reception was very helpful and immediately sorted it out. The room allocated was fantastic. It was clean and I was pleased with the facilities. Free parking and wi fi at Hotel set in a peaceful location. Had a very nice stay
Negative experience: I paid 140 pounds for valentines evening package. I was so disappointed actually feel I have been robbed. In the package was full use of spa, evening meal with entertainment and breakfast next morning. THE STEAM ROOM AND SAUNA WAS BROKE. THE JACUZZI WAS COLD. The evening entrainment singer was good and staff were excellent. Only problem was the room was freezing and many people left after the meal. (Was told central heating wasn't working) The next day went down to breakfast and everyone was queuing. Chef couldn't keep up bless him and I did feel sorry because when the kitchen doors opened he was on his own. DO NOT USE THIS HOTEL. IT AINT MARRIOT MEON VALLEY. ITS BEEN TAKING OVER BY SOME 2BOB COMPANY THAT CANT EVEN ACKNOWLEDGE MY COMPLAINT TO THEM DIRECT 2 WEEKS AGO. SHOCKING. AVOID
Fantastic experience: Was a short stay actually, but we enjoyed the room very clean, also the restaurant we ate night time and was fresh and tasty, quite quick served and the personal experience was enjoyable. We enjoyed the swimming pool and jacuzzi in the morning. Really recommended, believe summer time can be more pleasant.
Positive experience: Very attractive interior but slow service and limited lunch menu.
Negative experience: Have stayed here a few times. Used to take kids for a night as it was cheap, basic with pool. Tried to check in, was told can't use cash any more. Despite website and booking app saying you can. Also now charge £16 per person and £5 a towel to use the very basic pool. So now you're paying a premium price to use a basic hotel with basic facilities. Tried the food a while ago. 3 hours we waited.. Yes 3 hours for food. EVERYONE was complaining. Had lamb. After 3 hours it came out dry and cold. Everyone said their meal was terrible. Especially after a 3 hour wait. More basic than a travel lodge at 3 times the price with everything possible being charged as an extra. Pool, towel etc. Definitely won't be returning. There's much better hotels with much better free facilities at half the price. Very disappointing.
Negative experience: I called up to book a Spa and golf weekend for my wife and I. I was told on the phone that no one was available to take my reservation, rushed off of the phone and told I’d be called back asap. No one ever called me back, so we booked elsewhere. That needs looking into.
Fantastic experience: Great comfortable stay Not enough vegan options for food unfortunately
Positive experience: Excellent place for an overnight stay. Spa, golfing and food menu
Negative experience: Nice enough hotel and friendly staff But having to pay for all spa and facilities each day for a minimum of £5 per person for a towel They don't tell you that you need a locker coin (£1) so cloths phones and other personal stuff has to be left at own risk !! Food wise this is not a health spa in this regard No healthy options All fried or cooked in butter Only 2 salad options both with dressings We had the lamb dish Whilst it was nice it was over seasoned by the chef as it was salty to taste ! The seasonal veg served with copious amounts of butter (Breakfast £12.50 or 15.50 depending on when purchased) Breakfast was cold and we went early (08:00) They don't do poached eggs just fried and scrambled (in a spa hotel seriously!!!!) There was no fried bread for the kids or wife Apple juice is watered down Will we come back Probably not
Fantastic experience: Lovely top of the line place (prices to match! But worth it if it's. a 5 star experience you are looking for. Great staff, great decor, good food, decent Links golf course (windy almost always!) Anyway, a very nice place to go.
Fantastic experience: A pleasant in the country hotel with leisure facilities. Rooms are clean and spacious. Staff were oleasant and polite. Unfortunately the restaurant was shut when I stayed but it was New year. Overall a pleasant stay which was readonably priced. Would stay again. M27 is a 10 min drive but you are in the Meon Valley so plent to explore.
Fantastic experience: Lovely hotels, fabulous grounds, lovely service from the staff. Highly recommend and will definitely be back ❤️
Fantastic experience: Wow what cn I say what a beautiful hotel very high standard exquisite soon as you arrive the rooms are beautiful lage beds very comfortable extremely clean rooms with everything you need
Positive experience: This was one of our many Groupon stays we do regularly. Sadly it wasn't one of the best. Check in was good. Room was basic, not entirely clean and out room looked out at a brick wall. 3 course dinner was disappointing and the atmosphere in the club house wasnt great. Loads of workmen, areas conned off and service poor. Breakfast room was lovely and the breakfast was good. Sadly wouldn't return.
Negative experience: The restaurant was poor and service from the manager was shocking. Didn't serve food for over an hour and told they do not do refunds under any circumstances.
Positive experience: We stayed here before our cruise. You can pay and leave car in the car park, they supply a taxi to cruise port and pick you up after cruise and return you to your car. Used meon valley 4 times now, never had any problems. Beds are comfy and breakfast is good.
Positive experience: Very inspiring place in the South of England. We stayed many times while filming on our documentaries and films for Colored dots pictures. We did much of the reality show "Adventure" in the area. Administration is weak.
Negative experience: I thought the spa facilities lacked class. The treatments were good, the area with sauna and steam room was underwhelming and felt more like a leisure centre than a luxury day spa.
Positive experience: Not the best really. Ok so for the money it's not the best and it's all to do with service. Service is confused and lapse. For instance if you want to book cream tea you have to go to the bar to do this and then you have to give 24hrs notice. I asked if they could make allowance but the chef apparently said no. (Money lost in my opinion) If you want to use the pool you have to go book somewhere else and even then it's got swimming lessons on. The restaurant is large but the bar is basic and the food menu is small. Service in the bar is not confident and the staff let themselves down because they look bored. Food was good from the chef for what we wanted. Some things I give them credit for are that it must be hard in quiet times and the obviously heavily rely on the golf because if your a golfer it looks great. Could be so much better but the place looks wonderful and Christmassy already which is nice. The room is as expected and warm.
Fantastic experience: I booked this place as it allowed for pets to join, however it should be noted that there is a £10 per night fee. There is also a fee to use the Spa facilities at £5pp. You'll also need to make sure you book ahead of time. There is plenty of parking and the hotel is accessible by wheelchair. Staff were friendly and quiet lovely indeed.
Positive experience: Stayed here with my son for 4 nights, due to a house move delay. We know the local area very well. This was always going to be a chilled stay in the middle of nowhere, because there really is nothing of much interest within several miles of the hotel. In my opinion, the Company which operates the hotel needs to send a task force to sort the place out, both in terms of its appearance and the level of service. Most 4 star hotels (particularly those with spa facilities) are very well organised. This one, however, is not. We should bear in mind that cost of our stay was very low. That fact alone should have alerted me to the issues that we encountered. Plus points: Beautifully peaceful location. A couple of very well-meaning employees (Manager Cristos included). Hot drinks facilities in our room. Now I’m struggling… Minus points: Our room did NOT get serviced during our entire stay. That seriously needs to change. Charge more for the rooms, employ more staff. I believe the Spa facilities should be FREE to residents, but CHARGEABLE to non-residents. Two free small bottles of water were provided free on the first day, but chargeable on every consequent day. Our room was tired. Damp/peeling wallpaper. Lack of electrical sockets. My bed was not comfortable, but my son slept well in his bed. The staff whom we spoke with were a mix of very helpful, to utter disgraces. Every morning, when sat outside, I was greeted with the sight of multiple dogs peeing everywhere… not sure if people had control of their pets. My greatest bugbear during our stay, was the sheer volume of unsavoury characters who seem to frequent the place. I won’t say too much, but I felt there was a good chance that “illicit business” was taking place, although I didn’t witness it with my own eyes. Either that, or maybe the hotel is used as some kind of half way house for people. I’m not casting aspersions, it just gave me a generally uneasy feeling. I would’ve expected that kind of feeling if we’d stayed in an inner city 2 star B&B, but not in a 4 star country spa hotel. As someone who spent years troubleshooting businesses, I would love to get my hands on this place, give it a damn good shake up, and turn it in to an establishment which everybody would be proud of, both employees and guests alike. Cristos, the Hotel Manager, I suppose is following orders from above, but is a very personable man! Thank you Cristos for your effort, but the powers-that-be need to remedy a number of issues in my opinion, so that the hotel may flourish. All the best to you. PLEASE… Strive to be the BEST, not the cheapest. Your business WILL survive! And probably FLOURISH.
Positive experience: Can we not separate the course reviews from the hotel? It’s really not a 3 star golf course. Played midweek, this is a challenging course on a proper parkland layout. Greens were quite slow, very soft and recently hollow tined but they probably play well when cut.
Positive experience: Very nice place for a family break reasonable prices The only thing I didn’t like was you have to pay extra to use the swimming pool, which is used to advertise the hotel it’s a little bit misleading apart from this I can recommend it
Positive experience: We stayed overnight at the Meon Valley hotel as a family of 4, in a family room. The room were spacious with 2 double beds. The sleep was awful, the beds were rock hard and none of us had a good night's sleep. On arrival, we ate in the restaurant. We had a chicken burger and chips, burger and chips and fish and chips. The food was decent. In the morning we ate breakfast. Again this was nice, we had pretty much a full English as part of self service and cereals. We stayed here due to us going on a cruise out of Southampton. In the morning a taxi picked us up, it takes about 30-40 minutes to get to the port. The hotel staff were friendly and printed our luggage tags. Overall the stay was OK.
Negative experience: I would highly recommend that no one stays here. The staff are unhelpful and rude. We were due to stay 2 nights but due the such unruly guests we couldn’t face staying another night. I had to phone reception to get them to say something to guests, but didn’t work and they continued for another 2 hours. A call from my mobile that cost me as there’s no phone in the room. Guests shouting and slamming doors. On top of that there were stains on the bedding, the room was wrong to what they had said, couldn’t get warm as radiator made so much noise. Asked for a refund as we didn’t even stay the second night and the hotel ignored my 6+ emails. Hotel.com contacted them and they refused. I am hugely disappointed as never had to complain about a hotel stay before. So angry, and feel so let down that not one person has helped this. I feel as if this hotel had taken our money and left us with nothing but more stress. This was supposed to be a relaxing time away as my husband suffers with his health and we had this. If I could give it a 0 star, I would have.
Fantastic experience: Perfect overnight stay before our cruise. My thanks to Adam on the front desk. Most professional and helpful.
Fantastic experience: Went for around of golf with mates had a 3 course meal Fabulous can not fault anything
Negative experience: Don't be fooled by the Hotel Spa facilities! I have stayed at this hotel on many occasions when visiting family from Australia and the Spa facilities have been free for hotel guests. My wife and i have booked to stay at this hotel on 15th Oct for 4 nights and just read on their website that there is a £5 per person charge to use the facilities and you need to reserve a time slot. We booked this stay through Booking.com. The Hotel is advertised with Spa facilities on Booking.com but no mention of the fees. I have a non refundable booking but will no longer book this hotel again. Last time I stayed approx 12 months ago the Spa facilities were in desperate need of renovation and are still in the same condition!
Negative experience: This is a terrible hotel. There are so many ways that this hotel is terrible. Initially expect to pay £5 to use the “leisure facilities” which consist of the world’s smallest jacuzzi and a pool populated by children brought in for swim lessons. Then there is the bar/restaurant that is a compete and utter disaster of an eating establishment. Every table was dirty and I only eventually sat down after bussing my table and borrowing a spray and towel from the bar to wipe down the table. I paid £25 for a veggie burger with fries and a “large” glass of very poor wine. I would rather eat a gas station burrito than eat here again. Then the room…. Oh the horrible, terrible room. I appreciate that I booked a room without windows, but this room was devoid of any air exchange mechanism at all. Too cold, turn on the radiator. Too hot, use the plug in fan to circulate the stale and hot air. No thermostat anywhere. Also, the bed is so very uncomfortable with the single worst mattress I may have ever had the displeasure of laying on. I would rather sleep in my car than sleep another night in the place The only not horrible thing about this stay was the bathroom. Which was actually quite nice, modern, clean and had very good water pressure. This hotel is terrible. Do yourself a favour and don’t stay here.
Negative experience: Paid for a superior double room....not sure anything is superior..... needs a massive update. Well used....stains on carpet dirty cups and spoons.....this hotel is not as advertised as they should be more up front and say it's discounted room price... as is a well worn out room....bed It is not a double. Just two worn-out singles slung together with a massive gap in the centre.only two pillows ......just about to ask for my money back for the breakfast I paid up for as if you can't get simple stuff right not sure I wish to risk eating here. Very disappointed
Negative experience: Booked one night stay in a suit was going to stay two nights glad we didn’t!! Food was cold mush. The room was cleanish but the coffee maker was so dirty we couldn’t use it. Went to use the indoor swimming pool after 7pm when it’s ment to be adults only. Lots of kids still in the pool couldn’t get into the hot tub as it was full of old men groaning.. the steam room was broken. The women that was working on the main desk on checkout was rude as hell! I would never go back here again even if they offered us free rooms for a year! Ild rather save money and stay at a premier inn on the side of the a303! Literally I wouldn’t even give half a star overall!! Hopefully in a few months time it will all be knocked down and turnt into a housing estate and blocks of flats!
Negative experience: Golf just was just terrible, played on a Friday afternoon, there were 3 huge societies out in front. At one point we had 5 groups on the same hole, just unbelievably slow. Such a shame, as the course used to be great, but now the tees boxes, fairways and greens are just awful!
Negative experience: Um... not what i expected at all. Needs a serious update. Mostly eastern European staff that need training in how to treat customers. Came here for a wedding at a nearly location and after a fire alarm went off and the sprinklers in the bride room and nearly ruined the wedding, i asked the hotel for help and was told that the hotel was more important than her wedding... yeah... please don't stay here!
Positive experience: This is a very OK hotel. We stayed overnight with the intention of a relaxing night away. The hotel is fine, the reception looks luxurious but that is about it, the rooms are very basic and dated, we paid £75 room only for 1 night and definitely wouldn’t have paid any more. The £5 charge to use the leisure facilities (pool, gym sauna) is ridiculous, why charge paying guests to use the facilities advertised as a “spa hotel”? The hotel itself is a maze and totally inaccessible for anyone with mobility issues. The signs for the restaurant and gym and pool make no sense and you could be wandering the halls forever looking for what you need. The staff are friendly but slow service. The restaurant is extortionate for very basic food, you can tell it’s a freezer special and yet the cheapest meal on the menu was £16 for fish and chips. The drinks were also pricey as you would expect in a hotel bar. We overall enjoyed our stay but probably wouldn’t return due to lack of customer service and the general outdated theme throughout the hotel. Note for anxious drivers: we drove here after a day out in Winchester, the road leading up to the hotel is awful a tiny little country road only wide enough for 1 car, unsure what we’d have done had another car come the other way!
Positive experience: Stayed for an overnight golf break. Third time in four weeks. Excellent food and service
Fantastic experience: Had our wedding reception at Meon Valley and honestly I could not fault them one bit. Olivia Arnaudy was the best coordinator I’ve ever encountered. She was just always in the right place at the right time answering any questions and making suggestions. Absolutely nothing was impossible for her to do, and she was the best helper in getting the perfect images. We booked the venue last minute following an emergency change of date and then being let down with lies by another central venue, from the get go Olivia and Nicole we’re just fantastic, such kind, friendly, polite people. They made my day run perfectly despite things running late but I had the best time and felt everything went so smooth. Thank you so much. Mr + Mrs Edres
Negative experience: Not sure where to start… here goes… As you drive in the abandoned tennis courts greet you. You then get to an over flowing car park with tiny spaces with shipping containers and trades vehicles scattered around. You’ll then pull up to the front door. No concierge to help you and the staff will point to a trolley for you to lug all your bags around. The hotel is a maze… keep lugging those bags up stairs and round corners. DO NOT come here if you need an accessible location and are in a wheelchair or something. The rooms are tired. Barely a socket in the room and not a hook in site for a jacket. Definitely no USBs and some bizarre two pin thing next to the bed. No shower gel in the room just a small tube of shampoo and conditioner and body lotion. The view out the bedroom window sums this place up; an overgrown mess. Could be nice but is actually shocking; Lord knows who is managing this place but it needs closing down and putting out of its misery. Bar food isn’t cheap but is aggressively average. Not a cocktail in sight. Breakfast is erm… I think ferrel is possibly the best word. The room isn’t big enough to seat all the guests comfortably. The coffee is rank; the food like a canteen. Booking system had no correlation to what we had booked so staff were trying to charge us twice. On the phone in your room if you push the “At Your Service” button you get a message saying this number is out of service… ♂️ I’m not sure if this place used to be a Marriott in a previous incarnation; the Marriott logo on the phones has got a piece of paper over it to cover it up. The 3.4 stars it currently has on Google is flattering. A hard pushed 1 star at that. Best avoided and try elsewhere.
Negative experience: There is only one lift and that only goes to the first floor, if you are on floor two you have to use the stairs and that is not easy with luggage, no staff to assist you. No Aircon in the rooms. The bar had one person serving and he was rushed off his feet. The food in the restaurant was basic at best.
Negative experience: Blood stained sheets, view from our room was a house keeping dumping ground. Limited two meal option buffet of bland food. Unhelpful lazy staff standing around on their phones. Topped off with rude customer service when I emailed them with the issues we experienced. No apologies and blamed us for the blood on the sheets. 1 star experience in a so called 4 star luxury hotel. Save your money and book a Premier Inn for a vastly better experience. Complaint has been escalated to the hotel group head office. But not expecting a much better response from this awful company.
Fantastic experience: Rooms Outdated, however a lovely location with a golf course! Service and food were of good quality. They have a gym, pool, sauna, and steam spa! Great for an overnight stay at competitive rate!
Negative experience: Sadly most of what was booked wasn’t available. The golf course is tired a needs some professional work to bring it up to scratch. Hotel bar was disappointing even though the staff were nice enough. All the rooms weren’t available to occupy until nearly 8:30pm. Wouldn’t stay again.
Negative experience: The place wasn’t very clean but once explained it was dealt with right away and was very helpful and polite Lauren lovey manager from the leisure department very polite and helpful lovely lady and christos I think his name is lovely gentleman on front desk maybe manager very nice friendly guy
Positive experience: Advertise themselves as a four star hotel but expect you to pay £5 per visit to use the pool and steam breakfast room is so small they are unable to cater for the guests adequately . Seem to be consistently under staffed and for some reason decided to clean the beer lines on Saturday at 17.00. No hot water in some of the rooms for 2 days Management need a good shake up staff are working hard but nowhere near enough of them.
Positive experience: First time here and we have to say the location, rooms, and staff are above and beyond amazing. Amanda (Manger) was really helpful and made our stay really comfortable. Oscar (hotel reception) again assisted us with a professional manner. highly recommended.
Fantastic experience: Had a lovely weekend at Meon Valley. The Saturday was a big family get together and all the food and service was excellent. We stayed overnight in a comfy room with king-sized bed and large TV - good as it was during the Olympics! Needs to be accessed by car as a bit out of the way but in pleasant grounds alongside a golf course. Has good restaurants and a small but decent indoor swimming pool. Prices were not as expensive as I’d usually expect for a country club type hotel. Plenty of parking available but best to let hotel know in advance if a disabled spot is required. Check-in wasn’t quite available at stated time but only a little late so no great bother. All in all, we had a very pleasant stay, our second time at this hotel. Only complaint was the lift broke down and from other reviews, this is quite a common occurrence.
Positive experience: The hotel was clean & comfortable. They appeared to be understaffed, so service was slow. Breakfast was OK but the food, for the rest of my stay, was at best mediocre. All in all, it's not too bad, but more needs to be done.
Fantastic experience: Played the Valley course several times now, great course, especially considering the price. Rare to have two par 5s on a small 9 hole course. Looking forward to playing the 18 hole Meon course at some point which looks extremely well maintained.
Negative experience: Decided to call in to Meon Valley Hotel for lunch today. After standing in reception to enquire about lunch for 15 mins with nobody in sight decided to ring hotel. On being told the message inbox was full left without seeing a member of staff. Obviously no security or customer service at this hotel.
Negative experience: This is definitely not a four star hotel, very tired and desperately in need of refurbishment. Breakfast was understaffed to the point we ate breakfast with the last people's dishes on the table. Those dishes were still there when we left. Bedrooms while big felt a little dirty, large stains on the mustard carpets, shelving missing from cabinets and very musty. The hallways needed a really good clean, spiders in the stairwells. Do yourself a favour and find somewhere else!
Negative experience: In summary - leisure facilities aren’t included, got kicked out of pool with a 3 year old because of a toddler class that was taking place. Room had a roof light in with no blind so awake at 4am. Hotel contact number is a premium rate number and I spent £5 trying to organise check in and various other aspects. Who does that these days and thinks that’s a wise choice to charge guests like that for facilities and making calls?!
Positive experience: Excellent over night stay here. Booked through holiday extras as part of a deal bed, breakfast 7 nights parking and return port taxi for a cruise. Excellent value for money. Location great and all staff very friendly. One down side is dinner service, completely lacked any sort of organisation none of the staff knew who was serving, who running food etc which meant dinner service became a shambles to the point the put a stop on taking food orders for about 45 mins to allow everyone to catch up. Fortunately we managed to order prior to this but could see lots of unhappy guests. Room slights dated, but brilliant for a one night stay. Would be back and eat early again!
Positive experience: Clean and quiet room that was well appointed. Great rest stop after a ferry crossing to Portsmouth. BUT impossible to reach on the phone after hours. We just turned up and hoped that there was a real person in reception.
Negative experience: I got married here, all I can say is if you're looking at this for a venue, don't. The staff try but are let down by poor management. Changes were made to our day without being notified, things were left out of our final quote, then they demanded more money at the last minute to cover even though it was their fault. Hidden charges that had never been mentioned before were suddenly getting added on. Ended up spending nearly double the amount of the original quote from them. The DJ they booked for us was crap and ruined the night, actually felt like they had been booked out of spite. The room was okay but the bed was the most uncomfortable I've ever slept in. As part of our package we were to get a complimentary night on our 1st anniversary, we told them not to bother as we'll never return to this place again and will vehemently tell anyone looking to get married here to avoid it like the plague.
Fantastic experience: Very lovely hotel, friendly and professional staff, clean rooms, very comfy beds. And the food was to die for. Steak was cooked to absolute perfection. Massive compliments to the chef, I’m usually very fussy but this absolutely hit the spot.
Fantastic experience: We had a great two nights stay in this hotel. Room was spacious, staff was nice and very helpful. Spa and pool were also a very nice surprise, with a nice steam room and sauna. We were able to charge our car even if the car chargers were quite temperamental and a few tries were necessary. This hotel is very reasonably priced for all that is included.
Positive experience: We booked a spa day/night, had a nice day in the spa with treatment Amy & Elaine looked after us. Tried to book our evening 3 course meal but got told by Amanda that we had to have a buffet style meal, but we wouldn't be disappointed, but we were!!! no choices, really, salty beef dish, raw chicken curry!! Pasta fishcake or gammon ham, dried out new potatoes, there were some bread rolls & pate. Not what we were wanting or expecting. We were not the only ones who were disappointed. So we went to bed hungry and upset that our lovely day had this sort of ending . No management around to sort this problem out,
Positive experience: I mean it’s not a 4 star hotel in my opinion however it’s got everything you need, the spa is nice enough, staff were all really lovely and the food was good. Not given a 5 star for the simple fact the hotel needs some money spent on it. We bought at a discounted rate everytime we have stayed here and i have to admit i wouldn’t be so please me if we paid the full price. in my opinion it’s worth £80-100 a night max. I personally wouldn’t pay more.
Positive experience: Great hotel if you are cruising from Southampton. Free transfer two and from the cruise terminal and a lovely setting ... parking the car for 2 weeks was part of the deal.
Fantastic experience: This is one of the friendliest hotels I have ever visited. Every single member of staff we met could not have been more helpful or friendly. Reception, bar, restaurant and pro shop staff all helped make our visit memorable. Our rooms were spacious, clean and very comfortable. The Meon Valley Golf Course presented some challenges, mainly the water hazards, but still very enjoyable to play. A great venue for a golf trip or short break. We look forward to our next visit!
Negative experience: Very disappointing. Stayed here for a golf weekend eith a group of 16. Gold golf was good though tee boxes were not maintained. Hotel however is not 4 star. Long queues to check in over an hours wait!! Too few staff in the bar meant long waits and queues for a drink. Two staff that were serving, were also taking orders for food and then walking the food to tables, several times part way through serving st the bar. The bar staff were generally kids who had no idea. They ran out of glasses so started serving wine in tumblers and gin and tonics in half pint glasses. During service a senior member of staff spent 20 minutes showing a kid how to use the till instead of helping to reduce the massive queue, then she just wandered off leaving the trainee to deal with the waiting crowd. Room was very average. Annoyingly the black out curtains are too short which means you have a nice strip of sunlight at 4.30 to wake you up. No room service during a two night stay? Breakfast was awful. Sausages and bacon under cooked, left in a big heated serving pot which meant they looked steame rather than grilled or fried. Coffee machine served a third of a cup. Too few staff so tables very slow to be cleared. Overall very disappointing and would not go back. Not sure how it is called a 4 star?
Fantastic experience: Excellent place to stay. Ideal for cruising from Southampton. Look after your car for duration of cruise and supply transfers to and from the cruise terminal. Only downside is I have been told that Brittania hotels are taking over the place.
Negative experience: Played a round of golf with colleagues and was really looking forward to a drink at the bar. The lady who served me acted as though she was doing me a favour and it was all a bit too much trouble for her. Very disappointing experience.
Positive experience: Came for a spa day which was great. Then came up to the bar/restaurant for some food. When checking the price of food on the menu compared to the receipt we received they are different, some things with a £5 increase. Menus need to be updated asap.
Fantastic experience: Booked here for an overnight before a cruise from Southampton. Staff were all great, food lovely, spacious and clean room and very pleased with our stay. Great location and the booking we made with Holiday Extras included cab to terminal. So easy!
Positive experience: We booked as part of a stay and park package. Advertised as having EV destination chargers but they are Tesla. Tried to ring all week to find out if open to other vehicles, but no calls were answered. On arrival, it was found to be 2 Tesla only, 1 all EV, but try as I might, I couldn't get it to work with my MG4. Room was spacious and clean. No normal 13A sockets near the bed to run medical equipment from and and had to ask for an extension lead which was readily available. Food in the restaurant was basic, but tasty and "non fussy", also included in the package. Port parking was off the tarmac and into a gravel covered field, some of the parking was atrocious! Taxi to and from port was included in the cost, and I would stay again if flying/ sailing from Southampton.
Negative experience: Attention to detail lacking!. Rooms not properly cleaned ( child's underpants under chair) Breakfast: juice very watered down, lack of small plates and bowls, fruit limited and ran out of tinned fruit at 8.15 although serve breakfast 'till 9.00 in golf bar, not enough staff to serve and clean tables when busy.the list goes on!!!
Positive experience: Be warned -car park will be full up & no where to park. Resturant closes at 9pm Bar closes at 10.30pm and then you'll be woken up at 5.30am with the bin lorry emptying the bins for 20 mins minutes. And the smell of weed everywhere! Rooms spacious and comfortable, hotel staff very friendly - location in middle of nowhere
Fantastic experience: Went here for a golf break, found the course challenging, tight off some of the tees and very thick rough if you went off line, but a lovely course. The hotel, room, buffet evening meal and breakfast were excellent, far exceeded my expectations. A very enjoyable couple of days.
Positive experience: So not really a 4 stars experience, BUT if you with kids it's actually not bad at all because the rooms are really spacious with 2 double beds.
Negative experience: Do NOT stay at this hotel. The staff are THIEVES. I really wanted to give this place a chance, as i do with every hotel i stay at, even after the problems me and my boyfriend had upon arrival. Now, after having the staff steal my belongings which i accidentally left behind, i am no longer giving them the benefit of the doubt!!! We arrived on Friday at 6pm, and our room was not ready. I appreciate these things can happen, but the whole hotel lobby was FULL of groups of people (mostly old people, struggling to walk) whose rooms weren’t ready either. The staff were not in any rush to get people checked in. One lady was just sat behind the desk on her mobile phone, whilst there was a queue of people out the door, all waiting to be checked in. Never seen anything like it in any hotel i have stayed at. We were staying at this hotel as part of a wedding party. After finally getting our room, we dropped our bags off and headed to the bar to meet the rest of the wedding party. The prices are pretty high. 2 double rum & cokes cost £24. Around 10:30pm the staff rang last orders, and we were kicked out of the bar to finish our drinks in the lobby area by 11pm. There was nowhere close by to go to carry on our night celebrating, as this place is in the middle of nowhere, so we all had to go back to our hotel rooms. It was a total buzz kill. The next morning (Saturday) we got up and headed for breakfast in the hotel restaurant. Most of the food was ok. However, the scrambled eggs were grey, and they smelt of fish… inedible. We then went for a swim in the pool. This was ok, just very old fashioned, as is the rest of the hotel. There are no lifeguards on duty, so if you have kids make sure you have your eyes on them at all times. Also, the pool is very shallow for adults. I would not advise diving in, you could seriously hurt yourself, and there are no signs up to say “no diving”. Lawsuit waiting to happen! We all came back to the hotel later that night, after the wedding, at about 10:45pm. The bar was already closed, even though we had been informed the bar would be open later on the Saturday night, which was obviously a lie. Fortunately on Sunday we were leaving. Unfortunately, when packing, me and my boyfriend accidentally left some items of clothing behind. We didn’t realise until we got back home and we’re from up north, Blackpool, so about a 5 hour car drive away from the meon valley hotel. We figured our room would have to be cleaned, so the cleaners will see the clothing, and we can just ring up and arrange for it to be sent back home to us. We rang the hotel on Sunday evening just to let them know we had left the items behind. They told us that house keeping had already gone and we would have to ring back on Monday to sort it. We rang again on Monday (yesterday) and they told us to leave our phone number so that someone could get back to us later in the day, to arrange for our clothes to be sent back. We didn’t hear anything from them for the rest of the day. We rang again today and now they have told us that, actually, house keeping didn’t find our belongings! This would be impossible, unless house keeping didn’t clean the room before the next visitors arrived… that’s pretty disgusting, if you ask me. I left a very beautiful, expensive swimsuit. The fact they are trying to tell me they didn’t find it is absolute bullshit. The other items are more easily replaced, but that is beside the point! The man on the phone was very dismissive and said he didn’t appreciate our accusations. Well, sir, I don’t appreciate being lied to and stolen from! It is absolutely DISGUSTING. We would have happily paid for any packaging and delivery costs to have our things sent back to us, but no. Absolute scum bags. Karma is real and it will get you. Thieves.
Negative experience: It all made sense when I found out it was a Britannia hotel chain.... Dated, old, dirty and so out of touch. And to top it all off we have had our clothing stolen from our room by the cleaners. We attended a wedding and the bar closed at 11pm so we couldn't even enjoy a beverage after the wedding returned, we ended up getting a taxi to Southampton. The breakfast was disgusting, the scrambled eggs stunk of FISH ! Trust me when I say I'm not eggsaggerating.... When I called to ask if my clothes were in lost property I was told there was nothing there, so I said they have been stolen, then I was told that I shouldn't be making accusations like that ! So it would appear that the lobby staff are in cahoots with the cleaners.... I wonder if Facebook Marketplace is awash with second hand clothes in that area.... AVOID !! It's cheap for a reason....
Negative experience: During our two-night stay, my five-year-old daughter stumbled upon a bag of marijuana on our first night, inside of the desk drawer. Despite my wife mentioning a strange smell in the room (which I couldn't detect due to sinusitis), the reception and cleaning staff showed little concern when I reported it. They didn't even inquire about my daughter's well-being. Although she was fine, it would have been reassuring if they had shown more empathy. They didn't offer to change rooms or address the issue further. The incident made me question the cleanliness of the rooms, especially since a young child found the marijuana. Throughout the rest of our stay, I remained vigilant and discovered mold in the tub and on the ceiling of the leisure clubhouse. Overall, I'm not impressed with this place. I'd even go as far as to say it's worse than some cheap hotels in other towns.
Negative experience: Stayed at this hotel a few times on business. Can't fault the price, the food is really good and kitchen can adapt if you want something slightly different. Only thing is I noticed after a relaxing meal in the restaurant/pub, last orders called at 9.30 one night, 9.45 the next, regular occurence, asked to leave the bar before 1000pm! By which I mean, all TVs turned off, music off, better get out of here! Asked varying staff and the same 'agreed' response, if we're busy, if we're not busy...... I'm paying for a hotel with a bar and restaurant. Does that appeal to any of your staff!!
Positive experience: Birthday surprise at the spa retreat disappointed in the chill room massage room no aroma therapy oils very basic Changing rooms were dated robes were hard and off colour not a white soft pampering feel , needing updating . Restaurant was noisy with the golfers I understand it s golf course but really didnt need to be seated with them whilst lunching door banging open close not really relaxing and a chill experience Beautiful grounds on a sunny day but not for me as a spa day Disappointed
Negative experience: Very poor service, do not book this hotel! I had booked a one-night stay here, with my 10 year old daughter. The booking was made over a week ahead and I had received email confirmation of the booking. We were visiting my father, who has recently had a knee replacement. At 6.45pm on the evening we were due to stay, I had a phone call from the night supervisor saying that all the rooms were full and we couldn't stay there. Apparently people who had checked in earlier had taken all the rooms. He said there was nothing he could do to help me and that I should contact Customer Services. This left me and my daughter stranded, with no option other than to drive home 2.5 hours in difficult driving conditions (heavy rain). I have contacted Customer Services and have not yet had a reply.
Negative experience: We went for a golf weekend, the Meon course was great but the valley course should not be open it was disgraceful. The hotel had no staff room service non existent food awful would not book again
Positive experience: We came as a small group of 4 golfers. The course was enjoyable and in good condition considering the recent wet conditions. The hotel, meals and service exceeded our expectations. We'd definitely come again.
Positive experience: I didn’t like the fact that you had to pay £5 to use the sauna and steamer as a guest. I was hoping to be able to do so specially when the spa facilities aren’t that great. They also do kids swimming lessons, not the best background noise when you’re trying to relax. The service when we went to spa wasn’t the best either. No explanation or where to go or offering towels or any other service they provided. They were juts mainly focusing on the £5 charge rather than inform you about options of treatments, etc. You’ll need a pound coin to use the lockers. The room was ok, but not fridge. This was not expected either. TV was on the side of the bed, not sure how they are expecting you to watch TV. Neck pain expected! Not plugs near the bed, we tried to unplugged the side bed lamps but they used a unic plug system. Overall I’ll say they’re a lot room for improvement. Not the best but also not totally awful. Mix feelings, wouldn’t come back.
Fantastic experience: Really like this hotel, have stayed more than 6 times, great parking, cosy rooms and quite rooms more importantly. Alan really went over and beyond you look after me on my stay. Absolute gent and credit to the company. Thank you!
Positive experience: Spent 1 night in this hotel. Good points ... 20 minutes from peppa pig world, swimming pool in hotel, family room very big and clean, staff very friendly. Not so good... they charge £5 per person to use the swimming pool, even charged us for my 2 and 4 year old kids and children can only use the pool from 4pm till 6pm Rooms alittle dated but not really a issue, Bed very comfortable but pillows so big and thick. My 2 year old boy slept without 1 because it was like he was sitting up otherwise. Overall a decent night and we would return.
Positive experience: Had a great weekend, a bit shocked to find no housekeeping. I think staff have been reduced too much. We had a really nice suite and the breakfast was lovely. Small pool and need to avoid screaming kids....not the fault of the hotel.
Fantastic experience: Second time we've stayed here, beds really comfy, spotlessly clean, windowless rooms are not really windowless, this time we had a skylight that we could open to get air into room. We haven't tried the spa facilities yet so can't comment on those.
Fantastic experience: We visited the hotel for a wedding and found the staff welcoming and professional. In particular Hoss and Sofia, who were very helpful with additional information, and even managed to locate my husband's wallet which he had managed to misplace. The staff at the wedding were also very professional and friendly and helped ensure the day went swimmingly. Would thoroughly recommend and would happily stay here again.
Negative experience: We booked our wedding with them in 2022, verbally agreed to a default vegan wedding and included some extras in the contract so that everything was taken care of with no last minute surprise costs. As soon as we signed the contract (with the second wedding coordinator, as the original left before finishing writing our contract), getting clear information from them was like getting blood from a stone. They became very uncooperative, including refusing to provide us with a menu for over a year; it later turned out the menu had not changed since before we signed the contract and therefore could have been provided to us on day one of asking. At least 5(!) wedding coordinators later (they seem to drop like flies at this place) and 7 days before Christmas 2023 they told us that the extras we had included in the contract, and had confirmed were included in writing on two seperate occasions, were no longer included and that if we did not pay extra they threatened to cancel our wedding. We had an emergency meeting to attempt to salvage the situation the following day and when we sent them an email confirmation of what was discussed in the meeting they replied 14 minutes later saying that their suppliers could not (and never could have) supply vegan wines or fizz, which we know to be untrue and they did not offer any kind of solution or reduction of contract price, as this service was included. They have since claimed that they could never have offered what we agreed to with our original coordinator, or what we signed to recieve with the second coordinator. Further, they suggested that we "might prefer to work with a wedding specialist" - which the hotel professed to be when we signed our contract and has apparently changed their position on since then. We then sought legal advice and were informed that our lawyer believes with complete certainty that they are in breach of contract. When we informed them of this, they cancelled our wedding. They have also failed to return our deposit, despite claiming that our contract was invalid from the outset, thus meaning the deposit was never due. The only reason we have not persued this is because the legal process would take longer and cost more than it is worth to reclaim the funds. Do not give these people your money, they cannot be trusted, even with a written contract and confirmation of specific wording on multiple occasions. They ruined our Christmas, our wedding and have stolen our deposit.
Positive experience: Had a lovely last-minute night away here. Esteban who was working on reception was exceptionally helpful and friendly and his help really made our stay. We enjoyed the pool and facilities (sauna, steam room & Jacuzzi). All in all a relaxing break away in a well kept hotel. We will be back!
Fantastic experience: I played a round with some friends and had a lovely day. The course is to a high standard eventhough the weather has been very wet. I can't wait to play here again invthe summer. Great feature holes to test you also. We had lunch and a drink after our round and enjoyed it. The hotel looks to be kept to a great standard also
Fantastic experience: Booked with a group-on voucher. We had a very nice suite, super king bed, two large flat screen TVs, one in the bedroom, one in the lounge-all the facilities you'd expect Nespreso machine etc. The staff are very friendly and helpful and the food was excellent. Would Book again in an instant!
Positive experience: My friend booked me a spa day as a birthday present at the Meon Valley. We had fantastic massages from Amy, who was really friendly and helpful. The facilities are good; Initially we couldn't use the pool as swimming lessons were scheduled but they were over quite quickly. We had lunch in the bar and I was very unimpressed with this. Our toasties were around £7 each (I think mine was £8 for cheese and pickle) and were basically 2 slices of toast with the filling melted and weren't very hot. The dining area was cordoned off and we didn't know where to sit (the high bar tables didn't look conducive to a comfortable lunch). Eventually, after we'd walked aroubd looking for somewhere to sit, a club member told us we'd be fine to move the ropes and sit at one of the tables. We had a good day - lunch spoiled things a little - but we'd definitely be back for one of the massages!
Fantastic experience: Great hotel. Maria is so lovely, she went above and beyond for us. Clean rooms, Christmas dinner was lovely, our fifth time here and will come back again
Fantastic experience: Meon Valley Hotel exceeded my expectations during my recent stay. The staff's warm welcome set the tone for a wonderful experience. The Christmas decorations were a nice touch, making it feel cozy and festive. The overall cleanliness and attention to detail were impressive, and the bed was exceptionally comfortable. The bar area offered a great spot to unwind with a drink. You can also have food in the restaurant, and there are some nice alternatives in nearby Botley if you feel like something different. The hotel is located in beautiful and quiet grounds, which is perfect for a retreat or country walks (or golf if that's your thing). If you're looking for a comfortable getaway that is very good value for money, especially during the holidays, Meon Valley is highly recommended. Thank you Christos, Steven, Estafan, Clara, Maria, and the many other attentive staff.
Positive experience: Furniture is a touch dated, but very clean, comfortable bed, hot bath/shower, huge TV. Standard extras like tea, coffee, hair dryer, fan are provided. I would happily stay here again.
Negative experience: Rooms were comfortable and clean. The bar, restaurant and breakfast buffet were very substandard in terms of service and quality. The food was overpriced for what it was and the wait for the food was lengthy. The breakfast buffet was understaffed and poorly managed.
Positive experience: staff very friendly at front desk. Room is a good size. I think the rooms need to be updated. Very dated furniture, carpets and curtains needs to be replaced. Was quite dirty. Stains on towels, carpet and curtains. Mould on the tiles in the bathroom. Limescale on the taps in the bathroom. No separate shower, just a shower head in the bath. You do get a kettle in the room, with tea and coffee, however you have to re stock yourself in reception. The kettle could also do with replacing Nice size tv. With the experience I had, I wouldn’t stay again, I don’t think the rooms are kept enough for the price. I paid £134 for two nights with a double bed. The reception looks very nice, but as soon as you walk through the halls you can really see they don’t update the building.
Fantastic experience: Can't praise our stay any higher as it's a great hotel in fabulous location and the value for money is excellent. We only had 1 night but with 15 days parking and taxis to and from the cruise port ..... best start to our holiday, so full marks. Staff were friendly and professional and the included breakfast was delicious. We wouldn't hesitate to book this pre-cruise again and again. Sorry no photos of outside on my review as the weather is dreadfully.
Positive experience: Tired hotel. The location is ok and the course and spa look good (albeit I didn't play). The hotel and rooms suffer from being outdated and definitely need an update. The food menu is limited but what is served is decent enough and averagely priced. The staff were very willing to help when needed.
Positive experience: The check in was so slow only one staff when we checked in. And no one was at check out at all we had waited 5 mins before they came out. Hotel is lovely, food where nice, and in a lovely location, how ever the room we stayed at did have. Bright green led light that kept me up all night as I'm sensitive to lights. And I did report it to the front staff but they said there is not much they can do and it normal and every room has this. We stayed in 710, but apart from that the bed was really comfortable and warm. We did keep getting lost in trying to find our room and there is a limit choice of food and some options on he menu wasn't actually available. Would I come back yes I would but it the light that is only an issue for me. They have a vending machine but no drinks was available. Only snacks.
Positive experience: It's not a bad hotel. Clean rooms, location very good. Bed was comfortable. Our room was quiet. Also had food at the restaurant, which I would say above average . The reason I did not give more stars is because of the service. Not that the people who work here are not good (they are fine and friendly), but they are definitely understaffed. The management needs to sort this out ASAP. I heard a lot of people complaining about the amount of time it was taking to get served. We only got a main meal, which took 20 minutes to get served at the bar and 48 minutes to deliver our food. I would still recommend the hotel. The spa was nice. Please get more staff at knowingly busy times!!
Positive experience: Location for a golf weekend. Course is lovely, and a challenge. Couldn't complain about the golf side, even the ladies in pro shop and the starter were very friendly and helpful. Rooms OK. We were provided a buffet dinner which was disappointing, not really what we were expecting and it wasn't great. Bar staff were verging on rude and it was a little sticky and grubby at the bar.
Negative experience: Room stank of smoke, peeling wallpaper, windows filthy, paid £200 including breakfast, there was so many items missing at breakfast I should have taken my own sandwich, not even any butter for the toast! Very tired and dated interior. For £200 I would have been better off in a tent on a putting green. The bed is so hard its like sleeping on the floor.
