Fantastic experience: Beautifull
Fantastic experience: Taking my son swimming before he could even sit upright was a cherished memory. And thinking about the fifteen years of my attendance of serious weekly swimming sessions nonstop combined with a great attitude of staff, making Dewsbury Sport Centre a memorable place for me. A great sport centre, not a huge one which makes it a non crowded place.
Negative experience: Shocking how they have dealt with the closure. Very unprofessional. Also being unsympathetic towards paying customers providing an update one day before their direct debit is due to come out advising to cancel when a day before is too late. Behaving like this in a cost of living crisis. Shocking!!! Think the Senior Leadership Team need a revamp. Somethings not right somewhere in management. Cancelled and gone elsewhere like many others.
Negative experience: Vile customer services from both sports centre staff and phone staff, management is no better really need to get there act together I will be cancelling my membership due to this and many others have, membership prices are extortionate much better gyms out there for alot less with better facilities. Not all but many are racist !! Give the Asian community a very cold shoulder feeling if all the Asians stopped coming this place would close down It's mainly the older 1s which have problems it's 2023 not 1923!
Negative experience: KAL is the most ridiculous service anyone could ever join! I am unfortunately stuck with them because of yearly contract No customer service No respect thretening emails once in a while without apology when u think the issue is solved already!
Negative experience: Don’t do refunds and one off them was really rude towards 2 Asian boys telling them to go home cos the booked the wrong swim

Negative experience: My sisters went swimming last week Sunday and wore cotton nobody said anything, they went in today and after they paid the manager told them they’re not allowed to wear cotton because apparently it’s “new rules” how are customers meant to know about these new rules when the staff don’t know about these new rules. It was the receptionists job to let the customers know, they’re there for a reason . No refund and were told to leave. So rude and unprofessional!!!!
Negative experience: Good gym facilities although very untidy and no enforcement to put weights back in their designated places which can be frustrating when you spend time looking for the weights. Could do with more 5kg plates, good swim spa facilities although it is scheduled to close down at some point now. Most of the staff (except for the odd few) are unfriendly, fool around, unapproachable, blank faces, authoritarian in tone and don't give you straight accurate information when you have a query. they contact centre staff also have a dry response in their emails. Management on the other hand are unaccommodating and don't have a forward thinking approach to improve i.e cycling storage facilities, and are happy with the status quo despite several bike thefts.
Negative experience: Absolute horrible liars, I wanted to cancel my membership so I rang and asked them if I would be charged for cancellation, they told me no but I now have letters through my post from third party debt companies asking for money because I haven't paid. Absolutely Appalling. They should have just told me there and then but obviously wanted me to get a CCJ on my name. Disgusted!

Positive experience: It was good apart from 1 member who wouldn't let me use the Smith machine as he was using it and then never used it, should be blasting out some good music rather than the radio, couple of machines I've not seen yet but I only went for the first time today overall was good apart from a bumpy row from the running machine when someone was running, maybe situate them differently but all good
Negative experience: Staff was awful they pulled a 10 yearold out of the pool for not having “appropriate wear” bare in mind the girl is a Muslim and was wearing a full body swim suit due to her religion. The workers behaviour upset the girl causing her to cry. The worker then proceeded to argue with the girls mother. Very rude these staff need sorting out honestly disgusting. Completely ruined the young girls self esteem and knocked her confidence. would give 0 stars if I could.

Negative experience: Absolutely disgusting, its 28 degrees outside so probably a good 38 inside with well over 100 adults and kids as we are in the main hall with zero air con while at a majorettes competition and they refuse to open any of the doors due to the air con not working yet there is no air con in the main hall this place should be ashamed of themselves
Negative experience: TOTAL DISSAPPOINTMENT , hard to contact the centre, paid 260 for membership and got nothing, instead I pay more for swimming now.

Negative experience: Arrived with my two children for their first swimming lesson they had been looking forward to start all week. We was told to be there for 4:35 we Arrived and had difficulty with the old parking ticket machine it took 8 mins on the phone call to eventually get parking (even though Batley kal is free parking) we got through the door at 4:44 and was let through to the changing rooms only for the instructor to close the gate in front of us and walk away without saying anything. We went to the desk and she said they are strict on timing! Why say it starts at 4:45 when this is not the case if you have to be in the pool for that time, so technically it starts at around 4:20pm as time should be given for kids to get changed. I enrolled 4 children on this last week they are happy to take all that money but show no compassion! I shall be looking elsewhere!
Negative experience: I booked to swim at 7 this eve.however on entering pool entrance it was too full in the pool, there were a group of young lads messing about in the slow lane which I go in. There was a young girl been helped to swim x I knew I would be uncomfortable so I came straight out

Negative experience: Have been going to this gym quite alot since my stroke in 2018 & its safe to say they are the most ignorant people ever. I workout alone in the gym & its clear that i do struggle a little but the gym staff are to busy chatting amongst themselves or just having convos with other gym goers. To use the lift someone must be with you from the top but the staff are absent just dossing about. Big shame on you guys, you call yourself “ the Dewsbury sport centre” and you treat disabled gym goers like so.
Fantastic experience: Just joined as a member. The staff are friendly and happy to help. The gym is large with alot of equipment and the steam room and sauna is much appriciated! The best investment I have made in a while for myself personally. Thank you guys for making me feel welcome.

Negative experience: Bookings through KAL Application are expensive then in person bookings, nearly £3 more for a Badminton session, extremely unfair, what's the point of KAL membership.

Negative experience: Terrible experience. They refused to let me go in swimming pool with my children reason was inappropriate clothing which same clothing i used to wear it before i went there..and i am still ok with it which is understandable that is their rule but they didn’t let my 9years old to go his own in swimming pool as according to manager one parent has to be with him in swimming pool but i couldnt go for my inappropriate clothing and rules says 8years plus can go their own very upsetting for children .. not going again i wish i asked for refund instead of voucher now i have to go again dnt want to see that place again.. Negative experience: After paying an expensive fee of £7.50 to use the gym only I came back out to a parking fine, not realising g that it was a pay and display parking system. So they want nearly £10 for a single session basically, the gym is owned by the council and the council then charge you to park on the grounds even though your using the facilities. What an outrageous system you have going on here. Sure to say I won’t be returning along with the parents that came and saw the ticket on my car. Sort it out you charge highly to use the barely adequate facilities then also for parking surely with the price you pay to use the building parking should be free!

Negative experience: Worst customer service ever. Bought a teen membership for my son and he was not allowed to use the gym with his dad, previously he was. I immediately sent in a cancel request as he didn't use the service under his renewal membership. I was told there is no cooling off period of 14 days with this membership and said I couldn't cancel. I now have debt collectors sending me emails with extra charges for a service I didn't use.
Fantastic experience: Great sports centre, I only use the gym it is very chilled place and not too busy in the morning or afternoon when I go.. They have all the equipment that you will need for a great workout and still supply sanitiser and fibre cloth to wipe down your equipment before and after use

Negative experience: My 5 year old daughter had a swimming class and she was late 1minute. The receptionist, Ayesha, did not let my wife and daughter go through. My wife was devastated and my daughter couldn't stop crying. A 5 year old child, who looks forward to swimming all week, was late 1 min and then refused, absolutely disgusting service. When the manager was called, no joy as he/she agreed with whatever receptionist said. So much for customer service but diabolical experience. These guys must not have kids to experience what we went through.

Negative experience: Junior swimming lessons - extremely poor service Kal have introduced a new policy where if children are even a minute late they will not be allowed access to swimming lesson and asked to leave even though they have paid for the 30 minutes through direct debit. Due to unforseen circumstances parents may run late . I spoke to the manager at dewsbury sports centre about this and he said I should have received an email about this. I went through my emails with him no notification .if your paying for a service it is unacceptable to not be notified. This policy has lead to children missing opportunities , being upset disappointed and frustrated. Please be aware of this before considering kal swimming sessions for your children.

Negative experience: Don’t go here if you want a ginger girl with lash extensions tk constantly be giving you dirty looks and rolling her eyes when my 7 year old little brother asked her a question. She was religiously always starting at my little brothers and then when this other women with very short blonde hair came she walked over to her, pointed at us and said “keep an eye on them” baiting in mind j had a sprained ankle, my brother has autism which was due to him winding my 7 year old brother up constantly. There was no need to be constabkty giving us dirty looks AT ALL full on never come coming back here as we got treated DISGUSTINGLY!

Positive experience: I really enjoy using several KAL sports centres, the main downside for me is the gym is not 24hrs. Myself and friends have often discussed how much more convenient it would be for the gym to be open earlier and/or close later, especially considering the cost of membership in comparison to others.

Negative experience: I went today for a public swim and as I entered the pool I was removed from the pool. When asked what the reason was they said inappropriate clothing. I do not agree with this comment as we were wearing shorts and there were others in the pool that were wearing the same stuff. When asked for pa refund, they tried to offer us a voucher but we told them we only want cash as this will be the last time we come here due to poor customer service. On this note then the manager came and gave us the cash after arguing for a while. I would not reconsider going to this kal centre by far the worst. I would recommend not going here

Negative experience: Poor customer service. Staff refused to allow my grandson to participate in the swimming class even though we pay monthly for his membership due. He was just 5 minutes late as there was an accident which caused the traffic and delayed our travel time. My grandson was very upset as he's even looking forward to go swimming all week.

Negative experience: absolute rubbish.trying to contact anybody is a lottery. try phoning and you go round in circles and then it cuts off , try emailing and nobody replies.
Negative experience: Disappointing. Taking my 5 year old grandson for first time to overcome his fears and try to get confidence in the water. Checked the website to see if we needed to book. There is no information on the site to suggest this as far as we coild see. Having doubts I called the phone number shown as a contact, the message said the staff had no further information other than that shown on the website and cut me off. Ok,so we assume you can just go,which we did. The staff selling tickets said I should have booked and said we would have to wait 1hr 15 mins for a place, annoying but okay. Staff member apologised and said he would inform about the website deficiencies. Came back at the appointed time and got to the pool to be told we couldnt go into the childrens pool because we hadnt booked it- no mention of this when I paid despite ensuring the staff member knew we were booking for a child,an adult and a senior. At this point I became angry. I was told I should have booked by downloading the app. Why? First visit in years,no advice on web site,why do I need an app? Issue resolved when others left the junior pool and we were allowed in. Failure to update or provide easy access to information spoiled the event completely. Its not my job to make life easy for KAL. I am a paying customer and should at least have access to information so that this process, going to a swimming pool, is not so hard and upsetting. Not everyone wants an app on their phone for something they may never use again. Get a grip management, its a lazy attitude.

Negative experience: Terrible place. The teaching staff get star, the rest of the place gets 0. Most staff are rude and unhelpful. The temperature of the main pool is freezing vs any other pool I've ever been to in the whole country, the changing rooms are very sub standard regarding cleanliness, email customer service is incredibly unhelpful (although that's KAL as a whole, not Dewsbury specifically). Theres 2 pools just 5m from each other but you can only pay and book to go in 1. So if, like me, you have a child that can swim reasonably at 8 and one that cant at 6 you're out of luck. either the older child has to go in super shallow water where he can't swim, or the non swimmer has to go in the cold water pool where they cant stand up. Crazy rules in place, you have to seriously question the competence of management. If they can get it wrong, oh boy do they get it wrong.

Negative experience: Lanes are now too small for comfortable swimming. Also for covid - swimmers are passing too close. When passing there is no room to get a full stroke in, without crashing into a person or the wall. You would still fit the same number of swimmers in how it was before, with people following each other but at least a meter distance between. There is no distance now between when passing people coming the other way. Totally spoils the exercise. Also a lot of people are ignoring the rules of no shoes and not cleaning their lockers etc
Negative experience: Came back for the swimming lessons for 2 of my boys. was mis informed prior to attending and the staff would not listen, was rude and talked over you and talked in a condescending manner,. Appalling
Negative experience: Staff have no manners or customer service skills what so ever. they talk over you and are not willing to listen when the customer is trying to speak to them.
Fantastic experience: We're back to socially distanced gym exercise! It's still fairly quiet most of the time, the set up is as it was in the autumn with alternate machines in use, marked boxes to work out in, sanitising spray and blue paper to clean everything before and after use. You wear a mask in the building but not whilst exercising. It's easy to get a slot, but they check your entry time at the door.
Negative experience: Incompetent admin staff and some not very nice individuals using the gym . My mental health has been affected but they don't care as long as they get their money . Id like to go to a different gym but can't afford whole I'm paying for this dump .
Negative experience: I understand rules have to be in place for covid. But not allowing a 11 month old baby to sit in a floating chair for safety reasons is a bit backwards to me. Disappointing

Positive experience: My son has been coming for swimming lessons for over 2 years and progression is slow/limited. Teachers change on a weekly basis so no one gets to know the children and their skill set, and the reception team can be quite rude on entering. If I had to do swimming lessons again I wouldnt pick here.

Negative experience: What an awful place I came here as a kid and I always loved it this week I went for a length swim with my friend and because I'm 14 and it was 6:30 am the staff was looking at me and my friend very werid when we got in there we was nervous but before we went to the till to pay a staff member kept on going to other staff to look at us and we even caught her trying to tell other staff members I have never had so much anxiety in my life and all I wanted to do was swim laps with my friend this was very rude and changing room were horrible got awful looks from staff because I was a kid they even said do you know this is serious swimming I could of broke down into tears awful awful staff very rude and made me feel unsafe
Negative experience: Went for an induction yet was booted out of the spa, really bazaar experience. No one has even contacted me to ask if I want to join, shocking place i will never return.
Negative experience: Shocking service let me in with 5 kids only to jump in pool and then kick us out saying they made a mistake as not enough adults, 15 year old and 10 year old need to be supervised too! CraZy had to take crying kids back home and manager and staffs attitude was absolutely shocking to say the least! Offering me free badminton session to compensate!

Negative experience: Had a couple of games of badminton this last week. This sport centre is well below good standards. i have lost count of the number of times we’ve arrived to find the the badminton court not set up! Having booked and paid in advance this is not good enough. Don’t expect air conditioning, they’ve never have it on. I asked about it and was told, if you’re hot open the fire doors!! I inquired about the Owls (over 50s) This is not offered at Dewsbury only Huddersfield!! Dewsbury Sport Centre is a joke!
Negative experience: Best to avoid ... stay a way from this infect place ... nothing works ... everything stinks of urine and there are hardly any working look-rooms available I have never been to a swimming pool worse then this .... an believe me I do not have height standards when it comes to public places like this one ... but this .. this is rely terrible place
Negative experience: Staff are completely uninterested in doing any actual work, also what exactly is the point of a unified phone system that is closed before the venue you wish to speak to??? Much better gyms locally for at least a tenner cheaper per month. Avoid.

Negative experience: I injured myself in January, i rang to freeze my membership for a month all seemed ok, however on trying to enter the gym last week my membership was still frozen, a member of staff looked into this and it turns out i need to give a months notice to freeze my membership, so from feb to march payment was frozen, not from when i actually needed it, i asked how was i meant to do this with an injury, not met with a reasonable explanation other than they need a months notice, i was asked if i had proof, i said no and i wasnt asked for any at the time i froze my membership so didn't think i needed any, as soon as my membership is finished i will definitely be cancelling mine and my daughters membership, how can anyone give a months notice on an injury it makes no sense. Apparantly as a goodwill gesture they however did let me in on that day.

Positive experience: Great pool, nice staff. Really surprised how they persist with lane swimming for two hours during half term. Should be full of kids and families. How many lane swim? We tried today x2 families. But it was lane swimming.

Negative experience: Absolutely SHOCKING customer service from SOME of the customer service staff who are unwelcoming, rude and unapologetic when things go wrong. When they work . . . . the equipment and facilities are good. Equipment often breaks and takes a long time (Often weeks) to repair.

Positive experience: Just been swimming as always a good swim but trying to get my clothes in a locker. I am not tight in any way but when I asked reception for an old pound coin, as this is my first swim since new pundits coin, she did not even look in till and said no. I WAS offered to buy a token for 20p. Our of her shear laziness to look in till I got one from the very nice lady in the cafe. But as always kirklees want to rip people off instead of giving a 20p token to all members as a gesture of goodwill.
Thank you for taking the time to post a review and I am sorry to hear that you couldn't get your pound coin exchanged at reception and we would always try to accommodate customers wherever possible. We do have tokens on sale at 20p which are offered for sale at reception, and are great for keeping in your swim/gym bag so you don't need to worry about having change.
Negative experience: Very very poor sports centre. Staff are rude, they have digs at customers. Call YOU TO complain at you. I won't be using my hard earned money here any more. Really bad customer service. Although the facilities are good, but I'm not going to go somewhere I'm not wanted!

Negative experience: Appalling service, kicked out of spin class because it was my sisters first time. Really upsetting experience as she was nervous anyway then to be publicly embarrassed being told to leave. Been accused of not attending classes when I attend all classes I book. Classes cancelled for consecutive weeks, which is not great for consistent training. However the built up anger and stress Dewsbury sports centre causes makes for great motivation for evening runs.

Negative experience: The toilets in this leisure centre are the worst ever. Ive used different kirklees facilities around kirklees and this centre is by far the worst. Absolutely horrendous. It's sad to see young kids going into awful toilets barefoot. This need to be handled and rectified ASAP. I'm contemplating cancelling my membership as a result. I'm referring to the men's toilets all around the centre. The pool toilets, main changing room upstairs and even the ones just outside the gym. This has to stop. We're paying a lot of money.. Its a health time bomb that will explode in the near future. To think this centre is run by the council and to see the conditions of the toilets is beggars belief really.
